Project X LZ Tour 90 Graphite Shaft Review

px-lz-tour

When we built our test clubs, we found that the 5.0 plays a little soft so you would need to hard-step (put the 5 iron shaft in the 4 iron) in order to get close to the 5.o flex.  On the other hand, the 6.0 plays pretty true to flex.  Depending upon the length and desired swing weight, we should be able to build a wide range of flex, length, and swing weight options from a mid range Senior flex (4.0) to a high end stiff flex (6.3).

Dynamic testing the LZ shafts is always a treat and the LZ Tour 90 did not disappoint.  Our testers were impressed with the smooth yet explosive feel of the shaft through impact.  Again, just like the LZ Steel, we saw incremental increases in smash factor (faster ball speed and more distance) with the LZ Tour 90 against The UST Recoil, SteelFiber i95 and OBAN i83.

Launch and spin are in the mid range, which is great for a graphite shaft of that weight.   We would typically see that shaft weight generate a little higher launch and spin so this will be a great shaft for the player switching from steel to graphite but worried about hitting a graphite shaft too high, or bringing down the ball flight from a high-launching light weight shaft.

This shaft is only available through True Temper authorized Performance Fitting Centers like D’Lance Golf Performance Center.

Just like all shafts, the proof is in matching the weight, flex and launch conditions to the individual golfer’s swing profile and iron head.  Looking forward to  putting this exciting new shaft in play!

Project X LZ Tour Graphite Iron Shaft Review

By russ ryden, a golf digest america’s 100 best clubfitter fit2score, dallas fort worth, texas.

ttpxlzgimage

The Project X Loading Zone steel shaft is getting a lot of tour play. Our tester with a 117 mph driver speed has made the Project X LZ 6.5 his gamer in his irons. Now the same brand name is on a 90 gram carbon fiber shaft for those of us with more modest swing speeds. I first noticed the shaft when my 2017 Mizuno fitting cart update arrived. This year’s 90g shaft from Mizuno is the Project X Tour LZ in a 5.0 and 6.0 flex.

Everything you need to know about the Project X LZ iron shafts

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

When golfers think of iron shafts played on the PGA Tour, two models generally come to mind. The first is the most-used shaft on the PGA Tour, True Temper’s Dynamic Gold. It’s been the leading choice of serious golfers for nearly four decades. The second is another True Temper shaft. Called Project X, it has been around a little more than a decade, and is the second-most played shaft on the PGA Tour.

It’s starting to feel as though True Temper’s new Project X LZ iron shafts could be another classic in the making, with three high-profile wins in the last four months. Adam Scott used the shafts to win the Honda Classic and WGC-Cadillac Championship, while James Hahn won with the shafts the first week he used them at the Wells Fargo Championship.

What’s different about the Project X LZ shafts, and what can they do for your game? We asked Don Brown, True Temper’s Director of Golf Innovation.

WRX: What’s the difference between the Dynamic Gold, Project X and Project X LZ iron shafts?

DB:  Dynamic Gold and Project X share very similar performance profiles. Both are low- launch, low-spin shafts that weigh roughly 125 to 135 grams and both have reinforced tip sections. While their launch conditions are very similar, their EI profiles and feel are very different. Dynamic Gold has a tip section that changes in length (distance to the first step) as you move through the set. Project X, on the other hand, has a 2-inch tip section on every shaft in the set. These differences create a much different feel for these two similarly preforming shafts.

Project X LZ is a different design all together. The PX LZ has both a reinforced tip and butt section, which creates a mid-section that is more active. This allows the shaft to load more and provides exceptional feel. This three-wall design is very unique to the steel golf shaft industry. The PX LZ also has a series of very small micro steps in the midsection to enhance the loading zone even further. It will provide a mid-launch angle with a flat apex.

WRX: How long was the Project X LZ shaft in development? What challenges were there in its design?

DB:  As we were seeing the great results with our early prototypes of graphite Project X LZ in late 2013, we immediately began to think if we could see the same benefits in a steel shaft. The challenge was how to create that same affect in a steel shaft. There is a lot more freedom of design with a graphite shaft, where we can easily change the different layers of graphite, as well as use different grades of graphite. In steel, you need to be able to make changes to the internal reinforcement of the shaft and are working with a singular material.

LZ_4

Our steel engineers spent over a year manipulating the steel trying to create the Loading Zone signature EI profile. When they still hadn’t perfected it, they realized they were going to have to do something unconventional. All of our tour shafts have reinforced tip sections for added stability and trajectory control, but for the LZ signature, we were going to have to reinforce the tip and butt sections. That presented a lot of manufacturing challenges that took many months to get right. Finally, with the tri-walled designed dialed in, we added the series of micro steps to increase the flexibility in the loading zone even more. It took almost 2 years to get the designs dialed in, and a few more months of player testing, but with the rapid tour uptake and 3 PGA wins in a few months, it was definitely worth it.

WRX: What has been the feedback from tour players?

DB: Obviously, we have had great success on Tour already with several major champions putting the shafts in play, and over a dozen different players having added it to their bags.

A lot of the players who are adding it are looking to work and flight the ball a little more than they can with the traditional low-launch, low-spin products that dominate the Tour. I think we are seeing players being more receptive to new technologies like LZ and (True Temper’s Dynamic Gold) AMT, as opposed to sticking with traditional designs and weights.

WRX: How do PGA Tour players test new iron shafts? Are they more concerned with what their launch monitor says, what their ball flight does, or what they’re feeling during their swing?

DB:  For irons we use the launch monitor, but the data doesn’t figure into decisions as much as it does with drivers. With a driver, the numbers are usually king, and a good range session with a driver shaft can be enough to switch. With irons, it’s more about feel and ball flight. Players aren’t worried as much about distance; they want to see a trajectory and ball flight that they like, and have a feel that gives them confidence.

If a player is satisfied with his current irons, it will usually take a couple rounds of testing before he will consider switching. A player who is searching might switch in the same week, but not without some on-course testing first.

WRX: Some tour players use the same shafts in their irons as they do in their wedges.  Others use the same model, but one flex less in their wedges.  A smaller group of tour players use completely different shafts, or those specifically design for wedges.  Is the Project X LZ a good wedge shaft?

DB:  With wedges, usually we see the pitching wedge is the same shaft as the set, and the other wedges can be independent. With our LZ players, we have some who have gone to LZ through the set, some who stuck with their existing wedges shafts and one player who is still testing LZ in his irons, but has put LZ into his gap and lob wedges.

LZ_2

LZ certainly can work well as a wedge shaft, but for many players wedges are about confidence and feel, so we don’t see players switch their gap, sand and lob wedges shafts very often.

WRX: Anything else we need to know, Don?

DB: I encourage all GolfWRX readers to give the LZ shafts a try at a demo day or club fitter. The technology in these shafts is really unique, and provides a different performance and feel than anything else out there on the market. PX LZ are available now from our PFC dealers , and many of the OEMs have already added them to custom or will be adding them very soon.

WRX: Thanks Don.

Some specs. would have been nice to include. So many factors go into picking the right iron shaft for your swing. I have good swing speed but don’t load real aggressively so I start with that idea in mind when I look at any shaft . They are for the most part all good shafts just find the one that fits the best is what counts. I don’t really care what the guys on tour play because I don’t swing like them anyway.

Why are you posting this information now, when this shaft is over 2 years old?

125to135 gram shafts ,you would have to have a pretty fast swing speed to hit these all day ,and be fairly muscle bound also . I know personally I would be tired after 12holes trying to swing these.

If you’ve ever swung a DG S300, one of the most popular/common shafts, you’ve swung a 130g shaft. It’s a pretty standard weight for steel shafts…with, of course, numerous lighter options available. You seem to think this is only for tour-level and/or burley players and its Titleist’s stock iron shaft. Lol. Even the R300 is 127g. Most people can load a shaft of that weight, it’s a matter of finding the right weight to lock in tempo and your personal preference of swing weight.

Personally, I like the idea, but my favorite shafts are KBS Tour C-Taper. I really want to try out Dynamic Gold AMT, but these look fantastic!

Well it sounds like Modus 120. I guess LZs are pretty nice as well. I’d rather have shafts made in Japan though – Nippon.

I think these seem like they are made to compete with the KBS Tours… sounds like a similar profile maybe the Modus3 as previously mentioned as well….

May 19, 2016 at 1:02 pm

I would be really interested to see a testing against these and what, in my mind, sounds like a similar shaft weight/flex point like the Nippon modus3 125’s. Personally, these went in my irons this year and the trajectory and dispersion is phenomenal…but being a wrxer, naturally when I see something new and shiny I want to play with it.

I wonder how these would compare to my PXi shafts.

Not even the same. PXi is softer tipped. PX is stiff tipped.

When I think of iron shafts played on tour I also thing of KBS and Nippon as well. So just mentioning True Temper is bit far fetched. I understand it is in the context of the article but bit misleading – stop favouring specific brands. I play the PX and would be interested to try the LZ but certainly will also have KBS on my mind.

golfraven, what in the heck on Earth are you blethering about? True Temper owns PX. So why wouldn’t any writer mention PX with True Temper? It’s the same company.

Inside Collin Morikawa’s recent golf ball, driver, 3-wood, and “Proto” iron changes

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

As you probably know by now, Collin Morikawa switched putters after the first round of The Masters, and he ultimately went on to finish T3.

The putter was far from the only change he made last week, however, and his bag is continuing to change this week at the 2024 RBC Heritage.

On the range of The Masters, Morikawa worked closely with Adrian Reitveld, TaylorMade’s Senior Manager of Tour at TaylorMade, to find the perfect driver and 3-wood setups.

Morikawa started off 2024 by switching into TaylorMade’s Qi10 Max driver, but since went back to his faithful TaylorMade SIM – yes, the original SIM from 2020. Somehow, some way, it seems Morikawa always ends up back in that driver, which he used to win the 2020 PGA Championship , and the 2021 Open Championship .

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

At The Masters, however, Rietveld said the duo found the driver head that allowed “zero compromise” on Morikawa’s preferred fade flight and spin. To match his preferences, they landed on a TaylorMade Qi10 LS 9-degree head, and the lie angle is a touch flatter than his former SIM.

“It’s faster than his gamer, and I think what we found is it fits his desired shot shape, with zero compromise” Rietveld told GolfWRX.com on Wednesday at the RBC Heritage.

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

Then, to replace his former SIM rocket 3-wood, Morikawa decided to switch into the TaylorMade Qi10 core model 13.5-degree rocket head, with an adjustable hosel.

“He likes the spin characteristics of that head,” Rietveld said. “Now he’s interesting because with Collin, you can turn up at a tournament, and you look at his 3-wood, and he’s changed the setting. One day there’s more loft on it, one day there’s less loft on it. He’s that type of guy. He’s not scared to use the adjustability of the club.

“And I think he felt our titanium head didn’t spin as low as his original SIM. So we did some work with the other head, just because he liked the feel of it. It was a little high launching, so we fit him into something with less loft. It’s a naughty little piece of equipment.”

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

In addition to the driver and fairway wood changes, Morikawa also debuted his new “MySymbol” jersey No. 5 TP5x golf ball at The Masters. Morikawa’s choice of symbols is likely tied to his love of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.

Not enough changes for you? There’s one more.

project x lz tour 6.0 90g

On Wednesday at the 2024 RBC Heritage, Morikawa was spotted with a new TaylorMade “Proto” 4-iron in the bag. If you recall, it’s the same model that Rory McIlroy debuted at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.

According to Morikawa, the new Proto 4-iron will replace his old P-770 hollow-bodied 4-iron.

“I used to hit my P-770 on a string, but sometimes the distance would be a little unpredictable,” Morikawa told GolfWRX.com. “This one launches a touch higher, and I feel I can predict the distance better. I know Rory replaced his P-760 with it. I’m liking it so far.”

Project X LZ Review – Is This Popular Shaft Worth A Try?

If you’re considering getting a new shaft, this Project X LZ review will help you make an informed decision. True Temper is one of the leading manufacturers of golf shafts and is used by professional golfers on all major tours. Project X shafts are one range of shafts within their stable. So, is the Project X LZ shaft worth a shot?

The Project X LZ is a great iron shaft that delivers a smooth and stable feel on your swings and shots. It’s ideal for golfers looking to improve their performance with a smooth feel to their shaft.

The Project X standard shaft is one of the most popular shafts on Tour and in high-swing speed players’ bags. With the introduction of the Loading Zone technology, Project X offers the precision and advantages of Project X standard shaft to a larger player base. These shafts are available in chrome and blackout finish.

You’ll explore my Project X LZ iron shaft review in this article, so keep reading!

Who They’re Best For?

Why you should trust us, how we reviewed these products, design and technology, specifications, performance, 1. project x standard shaft, 2. kbs tour shaft, 3. n.s. modus 3 shaft, is project x lz stiffer than project x, are project x lz shafts good for wedges, which project x shaft is best, related articles, project x lz review: overview.

Project X New LZ Steel Iron Shafts Set (Choose Flex and Quantity) (7PC Set (4-PW), 6.0)

  • Reinforced tip and butt sections offer ultimate stability.
  • The thinner midsection promotes mid-launch trajectory and gives a signature smooth feel.
  • A less demanding profile makes it more player-friendly.
  • Loading Zone technology provides a 7% increase in energy transfer for longer shots.
  • The thinner midsection allows LZ shafts to feel smooth without a decrease in performance.
  • Not ideal for high swing speed players as it may launch the golf ball too high.
  • No ultra-light shaft option available in the range.
  • One of the most expensive iron and wedge shafts available.

True Temper completely handcrafted the Project X LZ shafts and put in detailed effort for these shafts. Here are some of the various shaft flexes you can choose from:

  • Project X LZ 5.0
  • Project X LZ 5.5
  • Project X LZ 6.0
  • Project X LZ 6.5

Further in this article, I’ll review these shafts on various factors such as their design and technology, performance, and overall.

The Project X LZ shaft felt really smooth compared to most golf shafts . I could feel the constant stiffness of the shaft as soon as I tried it out.

I’ve got an average swing speed, and I realized how steady the shaft was throughout my swings. True Temper put effort into their new Leading Zone technology, and I could feel the difference in the energy transfer they advertise.

If you’re a beginner-intermediate golfer and want to try new shafts that’ll give you a smooth feel and improve your swing, I’d recommend giving the Project X LZ shaft a shot.

This shaft is surprisingly great for golfers with slow to medium swing speeds because of the increased energy transfer.

Our team spends thousands of hours trying out and researching golf equipment to help you take your game to the next level. Here’s our product review process .

We can bring these reviews to you through the small commissions we earn if you buy through the links below.

As a full-time golfer and a part-time content writer, I thoroughly researched and evaluated the Project X LZ shaft. Then an editor reviewed and fact-checked the list.

The information you get in this article is up-to-date because we conduct regular content audits to update and revise our reviews to ensure you receive the latest information.

To review these irons, I considered these criteria:

  • Cost: The Project X LZ shaft is a popular product designed by True Temper. Considering the prices of its competitors, I believe the price of Project X LZ shaft is completely justified. These high-quality shafts aren’t overpriced nor made cheap.
  • Feel: After playing with a couple of other shafts and comparing them with the Project X LZ shaft, I’ve concluded that these deliver a stable and consistent feel throughout your swing.
  • Specs: Every minor detail in golf can make a difference. And that’s why I considered the unique specifications of the Project X LZ shaft t while conducting my review.

Project X LZ Review: Features & Benefits

The iron shaft adds innovative technology to True Temper’s much-admired stable of steel iron shafts. If you’re unfamiliar with what shaft material you need, you can learn more about steel shafts and graphite shafts here .

The Project X LZ combines the benefits of premium materials into an innovative design to couple responsiveness and feels into a stable iron shaft. Learn more about what driver shafts are and how they differ from iron shafts.

Project X LZ (Loading Zone) features True Temper’s proprietary technology, specifically positioned to maximize shaft load for greater energy transfer and increased ball speed .

True Temper claims a 7% increase in energy transfer. This is achieved by thinning out the mid-section walls for increased flexibility to produce maximum shaft load during the downswing for greater energy transfer.

By keeping the butt and tip sections reinforced, it assists in increased stability and control. The variable wall thickness creates a unique design, profile, and feel visible in the immediate tapered steps from the grip through the midsection of the shaft.

A reduction in the stiffness of the mid-section, Project X LZ iron shafts are designed to boost speed and spin properties accordingly through each flex in the range.

Innovative design principles offer Project X LZ shafts all the playing benefits of the Project X standard shaft with the enhanced launch and feel, especially at slower swing speeds.

Four models in the Project X LZ shafts are based on their unique weight and flex profile. A number is used to delineate the increase in stiffness.

All shafts in the range measure between 36.5 and 40 inches, with a tip diameter of 0.355 inches and a butt diameter of 0.600 inches, and produce a mid-flight launch trajectory.

I’ll first start with a concise Project X LZ 5.0 review . The 5.0 Project X LZ Steel shafts are available in regular flex, weighing 110g.

Next up, we have the Project X LZ 5.5 review . For a stiffer and heavier option, the 5.5 Project X LZ Steel shafts are available in regular plus flex, weighing in at 115g. The Project X LZ 5.5 specs suit golfers who aren’t exactly beginners but are not skilled.

For the brief Project X LZ 6.0 review , you have a shaft in stiff flex weighing 120g. Project X LZ 6.0 swing speed can be slightly higher than the Project X LZ 5.5 swing speed because of the added weight and stiff flex, which activates different muscle groups.

The final option is the Project X LZ 6.5 shaft which is available in extra-stiff flex weighing in at 125g. This is the heaviest option with the most stiffness you can find. The 6.5 shaft would suit more skilled golfers as this is less forgiving than other options. Get more information on What Shaft Flex 6.5 Means .

Check out the Project X LZ shaft fitting guide to get the shafts for your game. You’ll be asked a couple of questions about your game, and your answers will help determine the optimal shaft for you.

The standard Project X shaft has a uniform stiffness profile throughout the entire shaft that creates a sturdy and consistent feel.

Loading Zone technology redeploys the weight and stiffness of the shaft to the butt and tip for enhanced stability and a signature smooth feel.

A firmer butt and tip section retain some of the stiffness of the Project X standard, but the LZ provides an overall crisp and active.

The backswing retains the stable and firm feel of the standard version.

It is in the downswing where you will feel the biggest difference. You can feel a precise kick and snap with the LZ compared to other PX shafts.

You can feel much more of a kick with the LZ than if you are looking for the performance advantages of Project X with a smooth feel, the LZ is the shaft for you.

The softer feel of the Project X LZ will improve your wedge play if you want a softer feel than the Project X Standard offers.

Designed to be a mid-launch iron shaft , it performs well against the design platform.

Besides, the smooth feel created by the LZ technology translates into enhanced performance and playability.  It will empower you to better shape your shots with more control, thus broadening the selection you can call upon under various circumstances.

The additional kick you get on the downswing through impact will keep the ball trajectory low without loss in the distance.

This shaft is aimed at golfers that require shot versatility and a high launch trajectory. The trajectory is much higher than that of Project X LZ.

Shafts are available in a variety of weights and flex

  • Tour (110g for regular, 115g for R+, 120g for stiff, 125g for S+, and 130g for X-stiff)
  • Tour V (100g for regular, 110g for stiff, and 120g for X-stiff)
  • Tour 80 (100g for regular and stiff flex),
  • Tour 90 (95g for regular flex and 102g for stiff flex)
  • Tour 105 (105g for regular, 110g for stiff, and 115g for X-stiff)

Tip diameter options are either 0.355 or 0.370. The .370 Parallel Shaft is a single-length shaft that will be tip and butt trimmed to your required length, although this can change how the shaft will play.

KBS Tour is made to be one of the smoothest shafts for irons and wedges to deliver a signature soft feel and increased responsiveness.

Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 4-PW Set (Select Weight and Flex) by GRIPS4LESS - 7 SHAFTS Total (Tour 105, Regular)

The Modus 3 is Nippon’s most complete golf shaft line-up using weight and bend profiles to deliver three ranges of golf shafts for each golf swing style and provides enhanced control over trajectory, distance, and direction.

The three key areas that Nippon aimed at excelling in are:

  • Desired trajectory.
  • Accurate distance.
  • Tight dispersion.

This was achieved through a high tip rigidity design that steadies the tip through impact, reducing unwanted spin, low mid-section rigidity to control shaft flex for control at any swing speed, and low butt rigidity to improve tempo for a comfortable and smoother feeling on impact.

Shafts are available in a variety of weights (105g, 120g, 125g, and 130g) and flex options (R, S, X, TX)

All shafts in the range measure between 37 and 41 inches in length, with a tip diameter of 0.355 inches and a butt diameter of 0.600 inches.

The Project X LZ shaft is stiffer than the Project X shaft. You can find various options in the X LZ category ranging from 5.0 (regular flex) to 6.5 (extra-stiff flex). A stiffer shaft is best suited for low-handicappers as they deliver more swing speeds and are generally less forgiving.

Project X LZ shafts aren’t the best options for wedges. The LZ are iron shafts that are ideal for PW to 4-Iron. Check out the Project X Wedge shafts  specifically designed for Wedges.

The Project X New LZ steel iron shaft is one of True Temper’s best Project X shafts. However, the ideal shaft can differ for every golfer depending on their handicap, experience, and swing speed. Choosing the right shaft for yourself is essential to reap the maximum benefits.

Final Thoughts

Project X shafts are well-known across the globe and used on all professional tours.

Introducing the Project X LZ technology made the shaft more accessible to a wider range of golfers that do not have a fast wing speed like professional golfers.

Variable wall thickness creates an extra kick at compact for a mid-launch trajectory without sacrificing stability.

Although this is the closest you will come to a universal shaft, it is highly recommended that you conduct proper testing to ensure that the shaft is suited to your swing. I hope this Project X LZ shaft review has helped you understand the shaft better so you can make an informed decision.

Project X LZ Iron Shaft Review

More in shafts:.

Mitsubishi Diamana Putter Shaft

50 Words or Less

The Project X LZ iron shafts are, in my opinion, the best in the Project X lineup and suited for a broader range of golfers.

Project-X-LZ-3

Introduction

Project X has made a name for itself with its namesake steel iron shaft, and, more recently, with the lightweight and high launching PXi shaft, but the PX lineup still always felt like it was missing something…until now.  The Project X LZ (LZ stands for “Loading Zone”) has the best feel in the Project X lineup and a more practical performance for a broader audience of golfers.  In a way, it’s almost as if they took the good parts of the Project X and the PXi, added a little extra magic dust, and created the LZ iron shafts.

Project-X-LZ-12

In the interest of creating comparisons and making it easier to assess where the Project X LZ, falls in the spectrum, I’ll compare the LZ’s feel to the standard PX and the PXi.  The standard Project X shaft has the same stiffness profile throughout the entire shaft.  This creates a stout and consistent feel.  The PXi shaft is very smooth and lightweight but can almost feel a bit too soft depending on the swing.  The Project X LZ has what they call “variable wall technology” which keeps the butt and tip sections of the shaft firm but produces a reduced stiffness in the mid section and makes it easier to feel the load/unload of the energy in the shaft.  Short version, you can feel much more of a kick with the LZ compared to other PX shafts .

Word of warning though, make sure you get your correct flex.  I would normally play a 6.5 in my PXi’s, but a 6.0 was just right for me in the LZ.

Project-X-LZ-13

Performance

In a nutshell, the Project X LZ performed well.  The smooth feel is the crowning achievement of the LZ by a mile, but that exceptional feel translates into great performance and playability.  By design, the Project X LZ is a mid-launch iron shaft, and it certainly performed as such for me.  Project X says this shaft will be the best fit in their lineup for a broader range of golfers , and this is likely to be true based on the “Goldilocks Standard.”  Yes, some golfers will want the towering launch of a PXi and others the low bullet of the standard PX shaft, but most players out there are going to want something that’s “ just right ” in that middle ground for optimal distance and green holding capabilities.

The heavily mentioned exceptional feel makes for a very controllable iron shaft that should enable players to hit a wide range of shots .  In my testing, I found that I was able to shape the ball as needed, but it was also easy to hit different trajectories depending on the shot required.  I know a few other players, with very different swings than me, that have put the LZ into their bags and their feedback is exactly the same.  These other players love the feel and control of the Project LZ.

Project-X-LZ-4

If you’re a fan of the stability that’s often synonymous with Project X iron shafts, but haven’t historically found that you’ve quite fit into any of the PX offerings, then the Project X LZ is likely a perfect match for you.  The variable wall technology Project X uses in the butt and tip section maintain that classic stability, but the reduced stiffness in the middle gives more life to the shaft and a better overall feel.  For my money, I think the Project X LZ is as close to a “one size fits all” as you can come .  The only people that would not mix so well with the LZ would be the players that prefer a telephone pole in their iron shafts.  As always though, don’t assume anything, and make sure you properly test and fit the LZ shaft before bagging them to make sure you have the best setup for your swing.

Great review and couldn’t agree more regarding the feel. I was fitted at Club Champion and put the shafts into play about a month ago.

' src=

I agree completely. I too have had these for about a month in my irons and wedges. The feel is smooth but stable and I get the flight and consistency I’m looking for.

' src=

I too was fitted at Club Champion. I have always used 130g DG X100 or KBS C-Taper X. My club head speed went from 95.5 to 97.0 (6 iron)dropping down to LZ 6.0. Not a huge difference, but the bend profile did wonders for my swing. Spin and launch angle didn’t change, but smash factor jump like crazy. LOVE these shafts!

' src=

“…some golfers will want the towering launch of a PXi and others the low bullet of the standard PX shaft,…”

Not according to True Temper who recently informed me that “…Speaking in generalities, the Project X is going to flight a bit lower than the PXi and the PXi will flight a bit lower than the PX LZ….”

' src=

Interesting feedback from them. Just not the experience I had.

' src=

I have project x lz 5.5 115g. I bought it and i was told that this flex shaft is equivalent to stiff shaft compared to other shafts instead if just a reg plus. What are your thoughts. BTW, I have a p790 with this shaft.

' src=

As a 61 yr old 3 handicap the LZ 5.5 sounds like a match made in heaven. I demo”d in Mizuno iron but think would be perfect in Ping I’s. Loved the feel and results.

Long time Ping guy and will stay they way !

' src=

I have always played PX 6.0 shafts and love them. These look great though. You mentioned that these play a bit stiffer. Are you saying a 5.5 in these would be equivalent to a PX 6.0?

Truth be told, that answer is complicated. The more important part is the stressing of fitting to get it right. I can’t tell you it was necessarily playing any stiffer for me, but I realized the benefits of the shaft more in the 6.0 for the LZ whereas the PXi 6.5 performed better for me. So not necessarily a stiffer flex, just different performance results.

' src=

I have project x 7.0 want something a bit lighter and active . Would you recommend 6.0 or 6.6 lz . Club head speed 150

' src=

You currently play the Project X LZ in 7.0 or the standard Project X in 7.0?

' src=

It was mentioned that the LZ are softer than a standard PX shaft..

' src=

I was recently fit for the project x lz 5.5s. I am coming from the kbs c taper stiff. I was surprised that the 5.5s and not the 6.0s were best me for. My SS with a driver is usually between 108-115. I’ve always been told to play the softest shaft that you can control.

Perfect example of the need to get properly fit. I wouldn’t have guessed 5.5 either if that’s your swing speed, but if it works it works.

Enjoy the new rig.

' src=

I just got fitted at Club Champion. I’m a 12.0. I too got the Project X LZ 6.0 and they performed better then any other I tried. The best head for me was the Mizuno Hot Metal.Together, I got 15 yards more distance and reduced my dispersion, i.e. better accuracy. I couldn’t be more pleased.

' src=

Great review….What’s your assessment of the LZ shaft compared to the C-Taper Lite? Which has the better feel and what LZ flex plays closer to the c-taper lite Stiff?

I wouldn’t say either has a “better” feel, they’re just different. Also, what feels “better” to me may be different for you. Feel is very subjective.

As far as what PX LZ flex plays closest to C-Taper Lite in stiff, I would guess 6.0 but I haven’t hit either in a long time and would need to test them both side by side. If you speak with a qualified fitter like Club Champion, they will easily be able to address that for you from a technical perspective. That said, even if their flex is “the same”, it may not be a one-to-one comparison with your specific swing.

' src=

Hey Bill I have been using Ping i15s for 11 years and the clubhead was feeling heavy. AWT s shafts 108gms. I just got fitted for a Ping g710 5 & 6 . After receiving the clubs and hitting them on course the feel extremely heavy. They have Project X lz 6 120gm shafts and my swing is all over the place. Would I get better results with the 5.0.

Bill no longer writes for Plugged In Golf, but I will try to answer this. Switching to the 5.0 from the 6.0 will cut some weight but the shaft will also be much softer. I would suggest going back to the fitter and discussing your concerns and seeing what remedies they can provide.

' src=

i play Ap2 CB 716 with Dynamic gold Stiff flex, and have no problem with the ball flight or the feel. I am an 8 HCP i am thinking about switching to Project LZ but not sure if i should get the 5.5 or 6.0. I also used to play with Porject XPI 6.0 shaft. Help

Andy, there are a variety of factors that would go into making that decision or a well-advised recommendation. Unfortunately the information provided is only a small factor and many other variables should be considered when selecting a shaft. I highly recommend working with a good fitter like Club Champion to properly select the right shaft for you and your game.

Thank you for a quick response

' src=

Everyone knows that the best way to find the best shaft for yourself is to get fit. Stop responding with that and start giving you opinion based on your experience and knowledge. You can caveat it with something saying you are just guessing but it makes this conversation much more interesting if you provide your best guess. If everyone just went and got fitted all the time then you would have nobody out here for the discussions!

' src=

.exactly what I was thinking.

' src=

With all due respect, I couldn’t disagree with you any more than I do. Of course I can only speak for myself, however, I’d be willing to bet that my opinion is the prevailing opinion, shared by a vast majority of individuals that frequent this site. I certainly would NOT find the Review(s) Comment Discussions to be more interesting if the writer were to start giving equipment based advice recommendations, based upon guesses that are. based upon incomplete & inadequate info./data. That would be a lose/lose proposition. The purpose of this site, is to introduce new equipment in a broad, non-specific, manner, so instead of having an enormous, unrealistic list of club & component combinations to demo, the process can be streamlined, and gradually whittled down to a more realistic, manageable size. The personal insight, given by the writer, is again intended to be nonspecific, and not related directly to the reader. It’s a sounding board for comparison, as are the flightscope numbers & data. One can compare the review data, relative to their own swings data. If the Reviewer is a 2 Hdcp with a swing speed of 125 mph, and he has problems with a clubs lack of forgiveness, or has trouble launching the new 16° Utility Iron, then you know, based upon your 22. Hdcp and clubhead speed of 62 mph, that this particular club is not going to work for you. This is a great site and it does what it’s meant to do. If you want specific recommendations based upon inadequate information, then I’d suggest going to the OEM’s Official Website, and 95% of them provide exactly what you’re looking for. True Temper will give you a specific shaft recommendation for True Temper, Project X, or Grafalloy, and all you have to do is spend about 30 seconds on answering 5 Questions! And BINGO!!! You now have a flawless, expert recommendation! KBS, Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade…TOO!!! Guess based Recommendations are a disservice for those that don’t know any better. It would be a misleading & gimmicky act, and it would cheapen 1 of the best online golf sites on the net, and there’s enough of those already.

Dumbest comment I’ve ever read. Read what Joeg said below.

Talking about Billy’s comment…FYI.

' src=

Do the 5.5 115s weigh 115 or 109 grams I am 70 yrs old and playing 55s in titliest ap3 irons. I am playing at scratch but wonder if a change in weight or flex is needed. I hit my 7 iron 145 to 150.

The 5.5 is 115 uncut. If you think an equipment change would be helpful, visit a club fitter like Club Champion or True Spec and find out.

' src=

As of very recently, I’m playing apex cf16 – apex pro combo set with px LZ 6.5. I’m naturally a high spin player with irons and have a high swing speed (115-120 with a driver) with an aggressive transition (downcock with a lot of lag). I’ve found for whatever reason that this new head shaft combo has knocked too much spin off, as much as 2-3k rpm from my old setup (cobra amp with whatever stock stiff shaft they came with.

I am making the switch to 718 AP2s and am trying to choose a shaft. I’ve played a round with demo AP2s with S300s and really liked the feel and hit the ball well with them, but feel like I probably spun them too high. Would X100s have a a similar feel but with less spin and a little more control?

how would you compare these LZs vs the X100s?

If you’re going to spend over $1,000 on the AP2s, why not get a fitting to find out for sure what will fit?

I think the LZ and the X100 are very distinct, particularly in feel.

how would you compare dg x100s and px lz 6.5? Launch, spin, feel?

Because of surgeries on left thumb and right elbow I switched to graphite years ago to minimize vibration. I’ve gotten comfortable with graphite over the years – but I really prefer the performance of steel shafts but assumed I’d never go that way again. Recently, at a Mizuno demo day, I tried the JPX 900 Forged with the ProjectX LZ shafts and really loved them. Nice height, distance and tight dispersion. They also felt pretty smooth and I didn’t really notice much if any vibration compared to my memory of steel shaft vibration. Has vibration dampening improved in steel shafts? Are these particularly shafts better at dampening? I’m considering giving them a chance especially since the Mizuno rep said that if I wasn’t happy Mizuno would reshaft with Recoils for $20/club. Do you have any comments regarding your perception of the vibration of these when you tested.

I don’t have any data on vibration, but subjectively I feel like softer/more lively shafts tend to feel less harsh than stiffer shafts. That would align with your sense that these LZs don’t vibrate as much.

' src=

I don’t know if this will help anyone. I was recently fitted into i210’s with LZ 5.5. The softness of the new clubhead along with a little heavier shaft felt great in my hands and mishits that were slightly thin or on the toe did not feel harsh at all. I came from AP2 with Modus 105 R. The Modus is a good shaft but it felt a little soft to me and I had a hard time controlling the ball strike hence the change. I have only been on a monitor and I can update when I get the clubs on the course but the LZ really felt good for my swing. My index is an 8 and I don’t know my iron speed but my ball speed with a 7 iron was 110 with this combo.

' src=

I’ve got kbs tour stuff shafts in my mp4s what Lz shaft would be closest to this thanks gary

Stiff is closest to 6.0.

' src=

Really awesome review! Next week I will order a set of mizuno´s mp 18 sc and I was really scared when realised that mizuno do not offer the project x pxi as stock shafts. Are the project x LZ´s a good option? I like a high ball flight. Have tried the KBS tours but they do not suit me at all. I do prefer staying in the project x family. Thank you in advance.

To me, the LZ is more active than the PXi. My advice would be to wait on ordering clubs until you can be fit for the right shaft.

' src=

It was suggested that I try the Project X LZ 5.5 shaft on my Titleist ap3 irons as I was previously playing with the AMT Black R300 shafts. I love the feel of the Project X LZ 5.5s, but noticed that I have much more of a tendency to draw and/or hook the ball whereas I didn’t have that same issue with the AMT Black R300s. Does that seem unusual? Should I be trying the heavier, slightly stiffer LZ 6.0s? Interesting to me that some manufacturers call the 5.5s ‘stiff’ while others call them ‘firm’ or ‘regular+’. Thanks, Matt!

This doesn’t sound too unusual to me. The LZ is a more active profile than the AMT, so that could be leading to your draws. Going stiffer or heavier may help, but it’s impossible to say for sure.

' src=

matt what is the weight of the lz 95 5.5 irun shaft cant find answer anywhere thank you.

I don’t know off hand, and the PX website has been down for a few days. Sorry I can’t help.

' src=

Ss is 110 driver , 87 with a 6 iron , fit into Modus 110 Stiff hard stepped once . Think the 5.5’s hard stepped will be enough or will they be too weak still .

The only way to know for sure is to test them. My suspicion is that a hard stepped 5.5 would not be as stout as a Modus stiff hard stepped.

' src=

I’m gaming with Mizuno JPX900 forged in KBS Tour C-taper 120g stiff. At a recent fitting I tried the Titleist 620 MB and CB in LZ5.5 and loved the feeling so took that shaft onto Mizuno MP20s and think I have a perfect match.

Then my local pro back in UK advised the switch from current KBS to the softer LZ might be too extreme, and recommended the Modus stiff 105g as a better alternative.

Dilemma: my current local fitting place doesn’t have the Modus in stock to try so now I’m torn. Do I go with the LZs and trust how they felt, or hang fire and find the Modus?!?!

If thoughts of the Modus are going to haunt you, wait and try them. If you can get past that thought, get the LZ.

' src=

Hi Matt. I switched to the project x lz 6.5 and as It’s getting warmer I find my shots are drawing pretty heavy. Part of it’s my swing but a playing partner recommended going to regular project x maybe 6.0. What do you think or c taper lite x.

If you think the draw is the result of poor equipment fit, I would schedule a session with a fitter to try some different options and find one that works better. Once you get into the cycle of “buy to try,” it’s hard to get out of it.

' src=

Hi Matt. I was using a recoil F3 on my Jpx 900 forged. Just got fitted for Jpx 921 HMP. The Mizuno rep fitted me to a PX LZ 5.0 at 115 grams 20 grams heavier. He said my transition was quick. He asked if I missed left alot. I said yes usually.Would the heavier shaft make a difference?

Did you get to hit the PX LZ in the fitting?

' src=

How would you compare project x lz 5.5 to steelfibre i95 cw in r flex for feel dispersion and distance

I have very limited experience with Steelfiber shafts, so I can’t give you a knowledgeable comparison.

Thanks for the info on Lz shaft. I am between a 6 and 5.5. I am hitting Srixon zx7 modus 105 and would like more height with my shots. What would the effect of height be and shaft flex be with soft stepping either Lz Shaft’s mentioned of those and adding 1/4 inch length? Thanks

Soft stepping will make the shaft feel softer. Adding length can make it feel softer, too, though 1/4 inch probably won’t affect it much.

' src=

Hi there Matt my name is Jon I’m from Oakland CA,… I am 5 Handicap golfer and I just recently purchased a new set of Callaway Apex irons with Project X LZ 5.5 shafts, my logic for this was that I have played the Project X IO Shafts in a 5.5 and really enjoyed them so I’m more just hoping that they are a similar in shaft stiffness… The X io shafts were cool but launch the ball much to high. Now I ordered the irons really because you couldn’t beat the price.. I am fully aware of the risks I have been golfing a while and have a pretty good idea on what works for me… but was really enjoying reading all the other questions and answers you seem very knowledgeable Matt, and was hoping you could way in on the topic of Project X io shafts in 5.5 vs. the Project X LZ 5.5, maybe the differences and benefits between the 2 shaft models and would they be a similar feel in stiffness?

I did not write this review, but I can tell you the LZ is likely to feel a bit more active than the IO.

Hi Matt I am currently playing Lz 5.5 thinking of trying 950 neo wondering what flex . Carry 7 iron 160/165 in Wilson staff blade. Also do you think the gen 5t irons would be as forgiving as the Wilson’s.

Dylan reviewed the GEN5 T here: https://pluggedingolf.com/pxg-0311-t-gen5-irons-review/

Project X 5.5 is roughly equivalent to a regular flex. You could go up a flex if you’re worried it will be too soft.

Project X LZ 6.0

Project X LZ features our proprietary Loading Zone Technology which produces maximum shaft load during the downswing for greater energy transfer. Loading Zone Technology is achieved through variable wall technology in the shaft’s butt and tip sections and a reduced stiffness in the midsection. Golfers can not only feel the technology, but can see it, in the rapid tapered steps from the grip through the midsection of the shaft. Available in chrome and blackout finish.

Project x lz graphite shaft review: what you need to know [updated may 2024].

If you’re in the market for a new golf club , you’ve likely come across the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft. But is it worth the investment ? In this review, we’ll break down everything you need to know about this popular shaft .

What is the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft?

The Project X LZ Graphite Shaft is a premium option offered by True Temper, a company that’s been making golf club shafts for over 100 years. The LZ in the name stands for “Loading Zone,” which refers to a section of the shaft that allows for more energy transfer during the swing.

What Makes the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft Stand Out?

One of the main selling points of the Project X LZ is its consistency. The Loading Zone mentioned earlier helps to keep the shaft stable throughout the swing, which can improve accuracy and distance.

Another unique feature is the shaft’s variable wall technology. This means that the walls of the shaft are thicker in certain areas and thinner in others, which can improve the overall feel and performance of the club .

Project X LZ Graphite Shaft Specs

The Project X LZ Graphite Shaft is available in a variety of weights and flexes to suit different swing types. Here are the specs for each option:

  • 4.0 Flex: 62g
  • 4.5 Flex: 64g
  • 5.0 Flex: 66g
  • 5.5 Flex: 68g
  • 6.0 Flex: 71g
  • 6.5 Flex: 74g

Pros and Cons of the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft

Like any golf club component, the Project X LZ has its pros and cons. Here’s a quick breakdown of each:

  • Consistent performance
  • Improved accuracy and distance
  • Variable wall technology for improved feel

Conclusion: Is the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft Worth It?

Overall, the Project X LZ Graphite Shaft is a premium option that’s well-suited for golfers looking for consistency and improved performance. While it may not be the best choice for everyone, its variable wall technology and Loading Zone design make it a popular choice among serious golfers.

I am trying to do some research on how many pros are using this shaft for their irons? I think Poulter does but can’t make anyone else. I am kind of surprised more guys don’t use it....? Anyone know of a good resource for iron shaft counts on tour? Thanks.

can we get an update on this? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't seen many pros - Nate Lashley uses them.  I think they are more prominent on the LPGA.

I have often been intrigued with the Project LZ shaft, having never hit one. I'm still hitting the Tour Issue DG AMT from the first release. Maybe it's time to get a second set of irons and put these in to try...

The ball speed I got the LZ made fitter look twice, it was that good. They have a really nice snap to them when you flush it. The weight changes with flex like other PX models, so that will be a factor. Overall I find them much easier to swing than standard PX but with a little flatter flight too. They seem to get up and just go. Worth a try, mizuno cart had the most flex options as most OEMs just have the 6.0 which is slightly too much for me, and I swing a 7 iron in the low 80’s. Usually a stiff in about everything but 5.5 felt more consistent for me to put a smooth swing on it, going after it didn’t seem to phase it but I don’t swing extra hard.

Bigjim1022

I love mine in my 785s.  I think it’s important to get fit or at least try them in the head your looking at.  I had them in a set of Ping 210s and while they felt great they ballooned like crazy, distance loss and spin were unreal.  Got fit into a heavier model and different head (785s) and flex (6.5 vs 6.0) and man what a difference.  Easy to swing, ball just jumps and flies high without ballooning but I can hit knockdowns too.  Really great shaft.

Does anyone know how the spin compares to dynamic gold? I’ve heard mizuno shaft optimizer often recommends these along with dynamic gold. I am looking for something similar to DG but with less spin and possibly less weight.

Spin going to depend a lot more on the loft/ iron head you use. Ball will make more of a difference than shaft, too.

If you're trying to modify spin with shaft, you probably won't alter it by more than 50-100rpm with all other factors equal (same ball, same strike location, same iron, same swing speed and so on).

I Preferred the Tour Elevate shafts for that “mid weight” shaft. Lz are good but if your tempo is off I find that your really loose balls left and right more with those mid bend soft flex.

This is an interesting comment because it’s something I’ve suspected too, primarily with the Modus 120 but also the LZ.

Anyone else find this? Or is it just in my imagination.

Need4spd

Interesting. Hard the believe AMT is that popular on tour. I think I’ve seen it maybe once in a WITB.

Separately, in two separate sessions hitting off a mat indoors, I went from Modus 120 X soft stepped once to Accra iSteel 125 also soft stepped. My 7i spin dropped dramatically. I admit I was surprised. Was spinning it in excess of 7K with Modus but only 6,500ish at most with Accra.

Had them in steel but not graphite. Does it tell you the weight on the shaft? Graphite is usually a lot lighter.

I have them in steel in my Titliest T-MB 3 and 4 irons. Nicest shafts I’ve had in years. Tight dispersion, high launch, but that might also be down to the head. Absolutely superb feel off them.

I play them in my epic pro irons. Like the feel and launch I get. Switched from s300.

Project X 6.0 Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Project X 6.0 Shaft2

The Project X stepless steel iron shaft is where it all began.

This was the shaft that really vaulted Project X into the limelight and made the company a household name…well, for golfers at least.

But make no mistake about it: the Project X is not for the faint of heart.

After re-testing it for today’s review, my first thought was “yep, it’s just as stout as people say.”

In fact, the original Project X steel shaft has earned a reputation for putting off slower swing speed players.

Today I will be giving you some insight into the Project X 6.0 specifically.

Project X 6.0 Shaft Overview

The Project X 6.0 was designed to have a consistently stiff tip and butt section.

But the midsection stiffness is progressive and tightens up as you move to the short irons. For my swing, this was a perfect fit.

I tend to generate mid spin and launch so the Project X 6.0 made me look like a better player than I actually am.

My short iron shots were more controlled and I was reaching the green on long approaches more often.

The Project X 6.0 has a very simple look: a polished chrome finish with a band in the middle containing all the branding, lettering and specs.

I’ve always preferred the look of stepless shafts too but that’s just a matter of opinion. The kick in this shaft is very subtle.

In fact, I would say that only strong swingers will be able to feel the shaft load and unload.

Still, it maintains a smooth transition whether you are swinging out of your shoes or taking a more controlled shot.

Our testing team had the same reaction. Some adjectives I heard from them included “smooth,” “stable,” and “controlled.”

But the Project X 6.0 is certainly not for everyone. Some of our slower swing speed testers were getting pretty wide dispersion with this shaft, in fact.

They couldn’t jive with the stout feel and when you don’t like the feel of the shaft, it likely won’t be compatible with your swing.

And a shaft that doesn’t groove with your swing is likely to produce poor performance results.

Why is the Project X 6.0 So Popular?

Project X 6.0 Shaft

The Project X shaft is considered a classic in 2023.

It is a popular choice among powerful swingers because it affords them the club head control they need to maximize distance and stay on the fairway.

How Does the Project X 6.0 Perform?

The Project X 6.0 performs almost exactly as it’s advertised to. It produces low launch and low spin numbers.

So for a player like me who usually produces a mid launch and mid spin numbers, this shaft brought my launch and spin rates down just a bit. The Project X 6.0 wants to keep you on the fairway.

The only issue I had with this shaft was rollout. The low spin and launch combo doesn’t make for amazing stopping power. However, this may only be an issue for players like me.

If you know how to impart spin on the ball or are naturally a high-spin player, you may get along very well with the Project X 6.0.

Plus, you can always go down a flex if the spin/launch combo is making it hard for you to stick greens. The distance you get out of the Project X 6.0 shaft will depend largely on your swing speed.

I wouldn’t recommend the Project X 6.0 for anyone swinging slower than 85 MPH. If you are a 85+ MPH swinger though, you will likely pick up yardage through tighter dispersion alone – not to mention smash factor and ball speed.

Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

The Project X 6.0 specifically is a stiff flex shaft.

There are other flexes available but 6.0 is for players in the 85-100 MPH swing speed range.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

Again, the Project X 6.0 specifically is a 120g shaft.

This is a good weight for players who swing their irons between 85 and 100 MPH.

Why is it So Good?

The Project X 6.0 is incredibly stable.

It can keep your strongest swings straight and amazingly, it doesn’t send the ball veering off-line on mis-hits.

Project X 6.0 First Impressions

Project X 6.0 Shaft1

I was instantly reminded of how stout this shaft feels as soon as I took my first swing.

There is no lag in this shaft. Instead, you can feel the club head keep up with you throughout your swing.

Key Features & Performance

The Project X 6.0 uses a progressive midsection stiffness profile which makes the performance more dynamic. It gives you more speed in the long irons and more control in the scoring irons.

Project X 6.0 Irons Review

Even in the more reactive long irons, you get excellent control and tight dispersion. These shafts are fairway finders for sure.

Project X 6.0 Wedges Review

Better players will certainly be able to achieve acute spin control in the stouter wedges.

Still, launch remains pretty low and hard to work upward.

Project X 6.0 Pros & Cons

  • Very accurate
  • Great for strong swingers
  • Piercing trajectory
  • Surprisingly forgiving
  • Workable spin
  • Very stout profile

Project X 6.0 Shaft2

Overall Score: 96/100

Who Should Buy it?

The Project X 6.0 should at least be tried by fast swing speed players.

If you are a single-digit golfer seeking maximum control from your irons, the Project X 6.0 should be on your radar.

Even some faster swingers will be put off by the very stout profile; but if you are used to a stiff, traditional-feeling steel iron shaft, this shouldn’t be a problem for you.

  1. Project X LZ Tour 90 Graphite Shaft Review

The Project X LZ Tour 90 graphite shaft is the next great step from the company that brought us the LZ Steel shafts. The LZ Tour 90 comes in a taper tip (.355″) discrete length in 5.0 (Regular) and 6.0 (Stiff) flex. While the shaft graphic says 90gr, the actual specs are 80-87, depending upon length. In our testing, the balance point is a ...

  2. Project X LZ Tour Graphite Iron Shaft Review

50 Words or Less. The Project X LZ Tour graphite iron shaft has a lot of its steel counterpart's performance characteristics but with the smoothness and weight of a graphite iron shaft.. Introduction. I thought highly of the steel Project X LZ iron shaft I reviewed last year.. While the 120g steel LZ was good for a broad range of players, others might want a lighter shaft with similar ...

  3. Project X LZ Tour Graphite Iron Shaft Review

I first noticed the shaft when my 2017 Mizuno fitting cart update arrived. This year's 90g shaft from Mizuno is the Project X Tour LZ in a 5.0 and 6.0 flex. What really got my attention was the FlexLoc torsional bands in the mid section of the shaft. These are the same bands used in the Project X LZ driver shafts.

  4. Project X LZ Shaft Review

One final note: the Project X LZ is available in 3 different weight classes (50, 60, and 70 grams) and flexes from 5.5 to 7.0. The variation goes beyond simply changing the weight and flex: Project X moves the shaft's loading zone in each model to better fit the player who will be using that shaft: the LZ is lower in the lighter, more ...

  6. Everything you need to know about the Project X LZ iron shafts

Project X, on the other hand, has a 2-inch tip section on every shaft in the set. These differences create a much different feel for these two similarly preforming shafts. Project X LZ is a different design all together. The PX LZ has both a reinforced tip and butt section, which creates a mid-section that is more active.

  7. Project X LZ Review

The Project X LZ 5.5 specs suit golfers who aren't exactly beginners but are not skilled. For the brief Project X LZ 6.0 review, you have a shaft in stiff flex weighing 120g. Project X LZ 6.0 swing speed can be slightly higher than the Project X LZ 5.5 swing speed because of the added weight and stiff flex, which activates different muscle ...

  8. Project X LZ Shaft Review

The Project X LZ offers that kind of feel. The workability and control were very impressive. We were able to flight the ball up or down with the Project X LZ shaft. Naturally, it produces a mid/high launch but it can be brought down pretty easily when needed. The spin rates were on the high side which improves stopping power.

  9. Project X LZ Iron Shaft Review

50 Words or Less. The Project X LZ iron shafts are, in my opinion, the best in the Project X lineup and suited for a broader range of golfers.. Introduction. Project X has made a name for itself with its namesake steel iron shaft, and, more recently, with the lightweight and high launching PXi shaft, but the PX lineup still always felt like it was missing something…until now.

  10. Project X LZ 6.0

Project X LZ 6.0. $51.99. Project X LZ features our proprietary Loading Zone Technology which produces maximum shaft load during the downswing for greater energy transfer. Loading Zone Technology is achieved through variable wall technology in the shaft's butt and tip sections and a reduced stiffness in the midsection.

Outdoor Golf Simulator Setup with Foresight GC3 and Net Return. 1/200. Watch on. Don Brown of True Temper Sports discusses the Project X LZ shaft with AmateurGolf.com. LZ stands for "Loading Zone" -- it's a unique soft, but stable mid section of the shaft that allows a player to increase feel and clubhead speed without compromising stability.

  17. Project X 6.0 Shaft Review
