Teessiders will know Bob, a lifelong Boro fan, was born and brought up in the Acklam area of Middlesbrough and found fame with comedy partner Vic Reeves.
He underwent major heart surgery a few years ago and the Gone Fishing programme was partly a result of him revisiting the hobby with fellow comedian Paul.
The TV show returned for a Christmas special this festive period during which the pair fished on the Eden and the Tyne in search of an elusive English salmon. Footballer Paul Gascoigne even made a guest appearance.
Now, Bob and Paul plan to head out on a live tour with dates starting in May.
Teessiders will have to travel to catch one of them though, as the half dozen dates are all at venues in the south.
"Bob and Paul invite you to join them for a chat about fishing, life, death and falling over," says the tour information.
"Will Bob ever stop winding? Will Paul ever stop whining?
"This is your chance to find out. You never know, you might just get an answer."
The dates and venues have been set for Wednesday May 11 at Southampton Guildhall; Thursday May 12 at Charter Hall in Colchester; Stevenage Craig Main Hall on Friday, May 13; two shows at the Engine Shed in Lincoln on Saturday, May 14 and Crawley Hawth on Sunday, May 15.

The tour is all the more poignant because it almost didn't happen. During a health check-up last summer, Mortimer was told he had serious heart problems and, fearing the worst, married his long time partner Lisa Matthews at short notice and by special dispensation. The pair's first run of dates was delayed as he recovered from a triple heart bypass.
It was worth the wait. Last night's show, the second date of their first live tour in almost 20 years, proved to be a wonderfully absurd mash-up of the duo's most popular comic creations from their hit 90s shows Big Night Out , Smell of Reeves & Mortimer and Bang, Bang It’s Reeves & Mortimer through to Shooting Stars , which concluded in 2011.

Minutes into the performance, after a grainy black and white film of some of their best moments drew cheers from the crowd, Mortimer referenced his health problems by stopping to check his heart rate. Then it was on with the show, a heady blend of musical numbers, character sketches and the thing that they are best at – straight up improv.
Even those who are unfamiliar with Reeves and Mortimer's sketch shows – and fans hoping to catch a glimpse of much loved characters such as the Man With The Stick, the high-voiced Stotts, and folk singers Mulligan and O’Hare were not left disappointed – can get a kick out of watching them live. The comedy double act may be a dying genre, but it doesn't get much better than this.
From adverts for Geordie Jeans (“So tight you can almost see your bowel movements”) to the spectacle of Reeves crooning along to Wet Wet Wet while Mortimer dances like Bez from the Happy Mondays, the pair make full use of the big screens and sound effects that are now part of every modern theatre. But the show is anchored by the warmth of the relationship at its heart – two men who are still making each other laugh after 30 years.
Even when their improvised banter leads them down a comic cul-de-sac (“Thank you very much for that question”, Mortimer sarcastically told his co-star after his brain finally failed him at one point in the show) the recovery is so good that all is immediately forgiven. At every turn, you can feel the audience willing them to succeed.
The London dates for Vic and Bob's anniversary tour sold out in less than 15 minutes, a sure sign that their stars have yet to wane. If they can keep up this level of commitment to their live show for the next few months, they will not only have rewarded the patience of their existing fans may even have won a few more.

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer will team up once again for six date UK tour - but with a difference.
Instead of character comedy skits, the duo will be talking about their 30 plus years of working together on stage and screen.
An Evening With Vic & Bob comes to Nottingham Playhouse on Monday, February 10.
Tickets go on sale on tomorrow (Friday, December 20).
Bob tweeted: "We is doing one of those shows where we chat about our careers .. why we do it, how we do it... maybe some Q and A.. you know like what old entertainers do."
The show is restricted to ages 16 and over only.
Tickets, priced at £26.50, will be on sale from the venue, call 0115 941 9419 or nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk.
More about the show at aneveningwithvicandbob.com.
They started out playing pubs and clubs but quickly graduated to TV with Vic Reeves Big Night Out on Channel 4 in 1990. In 1993, the pair moved to BBC2 with sketch show The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer. Other hits include Bang Bang, It's Reeves and Mortimer, Monkey Trousers, comedy quiz Shooting Stars, plus dramas The Weekenders, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and House of Fools.
After touring in 2015 and 2016 to celebrate their 25th anniversary, they returned to TV this year with a rebooted Big Night Out on BBC Four.
Of late Bob Mortimer has appeared alongside Paul Whitehouse in three series of Gone Fishing for BBC2.

Bob Mortimer announces ‘Gone Fishing’ return date
The wait is almost over
Bob Mortimer has announced Gone Fishing will be back on our screens next month.
The comedian and actor took to social media to share a video teaser of the new season, due to air on September 9 on BBC iPlayer.
“Where is the cheeky little chappy?” a voiceover says in the clip, before later adding: “Let’s get our fishing heads on.” Mortimer features in the show alongside his longtime comedy partner Paul Whitehouse.
Fans shared their excitement in the comments section of Mortimer’s post, with one writing: “I’m packing my processed meat snacks now.”

Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing first aired in 2018, with four series having aired since, with the last one having been released just last year.

The series sees the double act reflect on their lives after both suffering major heart problems, while enjoying the countryside across fishing trips to various parts of Britain.
Last year, Bob Mortimer had said that filming for his forthcoming comedy with Reeves about Michael Jackson’s glove would go ahead in 2022 – but it’s since been delayed until 2023.
According to a synopsis , it is “a comedy road movie about two best friends in search of Michael Jackson’s mythical training glove.”
“Vic and Bob are childhood friends who own a junk shop together where they both work and live. Profits are down and with their futures in jeopardy, they approach their obnoxious landlord to explain their ‘rent’ problems. Rather than helping them, the unsavoury character gives them a choice: eviction, or locate for him a rare and unusual item… Michael Jackson’s training glove.
“What follows is a madcap road movie across Britain as they enter the world of strange collectables and celebrity memorabilia in search of the elusive glove.”
Gone Fishing will return on BBC iPlayer on September 9.

The smell of Reeves, by Mortimer
How Vic's flatulence held up filming
The comic has told of how his comedy partner’s flatulence made life unbearable on the set of their Channel 4 show Big Night Out.
In his memoirs, he recalls a scene in which he was under Reeve’s desk operating the Morrissey The Consumer Monkey puppet.
‘As I knelt there listening to Vic speak, I began to notice that he was punctuating his words with little tommy squeakers from his arse,’ Mortimer wrote.
‘I couldn’t shift my position as any movement could be caught by the cameras. Unfortunately, my nose was only about six inches from the source of the squeaks and I had no escape.
‘Each individual squeak evoked a different aspect of a rotting corpse. Eventually I could take it no more and rose up from behind the desk in the middle of Vic’s lines and declared that I was surrendering to the most powerful enemy I have ever faced: Vic’s show gas.
‘The audience laughed and Vic denied his involvement. It didn't make the final cut of the show because the pain on my face was too real and distressing for a comedy show.
