The temple houses a clumps of holy bells tied to its walls that are known for granting wishes on being ringed. According to a mythology, this temple was built to seek Durga’s protection for the wild animals in the place. At a distance of 50 km from Almora, 56 km from Nainital, 82 km from Haldwani, 325 km from Dehradun, and 350 km from Delhi, Ranikhet is a picturesque hill station and a cantonment town in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. Surrounded by Himalayan mountain ranges, Ranikhet is situated in the upper Kumaon Hills at an altitude of about 1869 m. It is one of the famous Tourist places in Uttarakhand and also among popular hill resorts near Delhi to visit as weekend getaway. The word Ranikhet stands for Queen's Meadow. As per the folklore, Queen Padmini of Kumaon was so impressed with the natural beauty of this tiny hill paradise and decided to stay here. Later King Sukherdev built a palace for her at this place and named it Ranikhet. Ranikhet is among the prime place to visit on a Nainital tour . The region around Ranikhet was ruled by local Kumaoni rulers and later came under British rule. The British developed Ranikhet as a hill station for their troops and established a cantonment in 1869. At a distance of 8 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, Chaubatia Gardens is famous for its fruit gardens run by the Government Fruit Research Centre and is one of the most attractive locations of Ranikhet. The name Chaubatia literally means the junction of 4 paths, inter-linking the cities of Ranikhet, Bhargaon, Pilkholi and Dehrti. During 1868, Lord Mayo, who was the British Viceroy then, liked this place and wanted the British cantonment to be set up here. The area is surrounded by lush green forests densely populated with pine and oak trees. Though primarily used by the army men, golf course is open to general public as well for a nominal fee. The golf club provides membership plans for outsiders as well. Few domestic tournaments are held at this course. Timings: 7 AM to 7 PM

Bhalu Dam

At a distance of 11 km from Ranikhet and 3 km from Chaubatia, the Bhalu Dam is a small artificial lake adorned in the preserved forest area near Chaubatia Orchard. Bhalu Dam is a semicircular masonry dam and constructed in 1903 by a British Viceroy as a source of drinking water for the soldiers. There is a small 70 m long, 6.6 m wide and 9 m deep reservoir. The surrounding areas of this pristine lake offer mesmerizing views of the Himalayan peaks. The small but beautiful garden nearby the dam is a wonderful site. The cool breeze and snowcapped valleys makes the dam area a perfect holidaying spot for the nature loving tourists. It is also a popular spot for camping and picnicking. The dam is about 3 km trek from Chaubatia Orchard. The road to Bhulu Dam is in pretty bad shape and the directions are poor. The dam site is open to tourists throughout the year. Timings: 7 AM to 7 PM

At a distance of 1.5 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, the Kumaon Regimental Centre Museum and Memorial is situated near Somnath Ground. The Memorial was built in 1974, as a symbol of bravery and sacrifice made by soldiers of the place. The young soldiers take the pledge of loyalty to their motherland at this memorial. To commemorate the sacrifice of soldiers, a parade is also held here every year. Apart from the memorial, this center also comprises a museum which was built in the year 1978. This Regiment Museum showcases the history of Kumaon and Garhwal regiments. It displays admired treasures like Rani Jhansi's argent scepter, Chinese rifles from the 1962 war, a World War-II Japanese wireless acreage blast and abstracts accompanying to the Kargil War. The Kumaon Regiment Widows Welfare Association runs a shawl weaving center here. Entry Fee: Rs. 20 per person Timings: 9 AM to 5 PM

At a distance of 14 km from Dwarahat, 48 km from Ranikhet, and 78 km from Almora, Dunagiri Temple or Doonagiri Temple is the most famous temple situated at Dunagiri in Almora district of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga in the form of Goddess Vaishnavi Devi and is located on a small hillock of Kumaon Hills. According to the legend, when Hanuman was carrying the rock laden with Sanjiwani to rescue Laxman injured in the battle of Ramayana, a piece of the hill fell here. This incident gave this place its name Doonagiri. The temple is popularly known as Mangalikhan among locals. The Temple is one of the two Vaishnavi Shakti Peeths in India other one being Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu Kashmir. It is believed that the bronze plate inside the temple dates back to 1181 AD. Considered to be one of the powerful Shakti Peeths, the temple offers a panoramic view of the Gogas Valley. Visitors need to climb a stairway of 500 steps to reach the temple. Khairna Bridge:  is located at a distance of 34 kms. from Ranikhet on the Nanital route . The number of People comes here it is famous for fishing. SitlaKhet (Shitlakhet) :  located 30 kms from Ranikhet, between Ranikhet and Almora this picturesque place not only affords a wide view of the Himalayan peaks but is also full of fruit orchards. There is a beautiful temple of Syahi Devi around 3 KMs away on a lovely mountainous trail.

Bageshwar :  Bageshwar is situated 107kms from Ranikhet. It derives its name from Bagnath , a famous temple located at the confluence of the river Gomti and Saryu. Every year, Bagnath attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over as it is believed that Lord Shiva wandered here as a tiger. Bageshwar is situated on the confluence of Saryu and Gomti rivers. The popular Uttarayani fair is held every year in January in Bageshwar. Bageshwar is also used as the base camp by trekkers for Pindari . 

Dronagiri : 52 kms from Ranikhet lies the 1100 century old Dronagiri Temple. It is said that during  Ram Rawan battle when Laxman got injured by Meghnath's arrow Hanuman was send to got Sanjiwani Buti from Himalayas on his way back a part of it fell at this place were the present Dronagiri stands. Pandavkholi : 5 kms ahead of Dronagiri is the famous cave of Pandavkholi which finds its description in the famous book Autobiography of a Yogi of Lahiri Mahashay fame it is also said that pandavas stayed here during exile, a beautiful meadow stands atop of the hill were pandavas meditated which can be reached by a good mild trek of 4 kms were Path Bhraman Sangh of  Ranikhet has setup an ashram for meditation lovers one can go and stay at the ashram. From here one can get a commendable and close view of the Himalayas.

Baijnath :  Baijnath is 90km from Ranikhet, a famous temple town on the banks of the Gomti in the Garuda Valley. In Baijnath temple complex the main attraction is the black stone idol of Parvati at the main entrance. Though fishing is strictly prohibited within the campus, you can feed them with a large packet of channa. A Kali temple is located 8km from Baijnath known as Kot-ki-mai.

Jageshwar : Jageshwar 80 kms from Ranikhet is the famous cluster of 128 temples the prominent  of them being one of the jyotirling Jageshwar and the Mahamrityunjay temple  which is the only temple of this incarnation of Lord Shiva in the world . 

Dwarahat :  It is situated 37kms from Ranikhet on NH87 which connects with Karnaprayag. Dwarahat is of great historical and archaeological importance in Uttarakhand. Dwarahat was once the centre of Katyuri rulers, which later got associated with Chand rulers. Syaldeh-Bikhoti Fair is held from 13-16 April every year at Dwarahat. Dwarahat is also famous for its Kumaoni Holi.

Binsar :  It is situated at a distance of 104km from Ranikhet. A famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Bineswar  is the major crown puller of Binsar. Perched at an elevation of 2,412mts above sea level, this temple was constructed by King Kalyan of the Chand Dynasty. Binsar is situated amidst dense jungle offering placid environment and exquisite surroundings. The views of major peaks like Chaukhamba, Panchchuli, Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Kedarnath and other peaks are stimulating from here.

Mukteshwar : It is situated at a distance of 85kms from the town of Ranikhet set at an elevation of 2,285mts above sea level. Mukteshwar got its name from  a 350year old temple Mukteshwer Dham whose presiding deity is great Lord Shiva. The top of the mountain on which Mukteshwar Dham is stood offers stupendous views of Himalayan range. Mukteshwar was developed by the Britishers as research and education institute (IVRI) in 1893. You can also visit Ramgarh , which close to Mukteshwar.

Nainital :  It is situated at a distance of 59 kms from Ranikhet at an elevation of 1,938mts above sea level. Nainital is given the epithet of 'Lake District' because it dotted with five lakes Nainital, Bhimtal , Naukuchiatal , Khurpatal, Sattal .

Almora :  Almora is a picturesque place located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand and is famous for its magnificent beauty, panoramic view of the Himalayas, rich cultural heritage, exquisite wildlife , unique handicrafts and delicious cuisine. Almora is situated 46kms from Ranikhet .

Kausani : It is one of the most popular hill stations of Kumaon perched at an elevation of 1,890mts above sea level. Situated 76kms from Ranikhet this charming hill resort set amidst several snow-capped peaks is endowed with extraordinary natural beauteousness. Mahatma Gandhi and was absolutely fascinated by the scenic grandeur of Kausani while a visit in year 1929. Sumitra Nandan Pant, a renowned Hindi poet was born in Kausani .
