How do I get the Bratislava CARD?

• The Bratislava CARD can be purchased either as a plastic or a digital card.

• The plastic card can be purchased in person at the selected sales points or exchanged for the voucher sent to your e-mail address after the online purchase at  card.visitbratislava.com .

• The digital card can be purchased via free Bratislava CARD App working on both iOS and Android platforms as well as online at  card.visitbratislava.com .

How to activate the card?

• The plastic card will be issued and activated by the staff of the sales or online collection points according to your requirements, or you can activate it by yourself by filling out the reverse side of the card clearly in block capitals before its first use. The voucher must be exchanged for the plastic card within 90 days after the expected date of arrival.

• You can activate your digital card any time after purchase according to your needs, i.e. you do not have to activate it immediately after purchase or on the day of the purchase. However, the card must be activated within 90 days from the date of purchase. Activate the card  right before its first use to avoid an early start of the countdown of the card’s validity period. Just  enter the card number  sent to your e-mail address  into a designated field .

Time of purchase vs time of activation

• You can buy the digital card in advance but activate it upon your arrival to the city right before its intended first use. You will avoid an early activation and start of the countdown of the card’s validity period.

•  Once the card is activated, countdown cannot be stopped, and the card cannot be replaced by a new one.

Who is the card intended for?

• Bratislava CARD is primarily intended for individuals – persons aged 16 and over.

Is there a special Bratislava CARD for families with children?

• No. Most attractions and service providers already offer discounts or a budget-priced admission to families with children. • One child up to the age of 18 accompanied by the cardholder is also entitled to unlimited travel by public transport. • One child accompanied by the cardholder can benefit from a free admission to Bibiana and free attendance on a guided walking tour.

Do you provide discounts to children, students, or seniors?

What is the validity of the card.

• The card is valid for 24, 48 or 72 consecutive hours from the date and hour of activation at the sales point or in the Bratislava CARD application.

Is it possible to extend or shorten the validity of the card?

• The card’s validity can be extended by purchasing another card. Its validity cannot be shortened.

Can more persons use the same card?

• The plastic card is non-transferable and valid only if it contains the name and surname of the cardholder, the date and time of activation. • In the case of a digital card , it is possible to have several active cards stored in one device.

What does unlimited travel by public transport include?

• Bratislava CARD is a network ticket allowing unlimited travel on both day and night lines, transport of 1 piece of luggage and 1 child up to the age of 18 accompanied by the cardholder. • It includes unlimited travel in all IDS BK tariff zones and covers the whole city of Bratislava (zones 100 and 101) and the Bratislava region.

• The card is also valid for transport to the M.R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava. • Transport to popular attractions located outside the city centre such as the Devín Castle, ZOO, Divoká voda Water Sports Areal and the Danubiana Art Museum is also included .

• The public transport in Bratislava operates around the clock. However, night traffic is limited. All bus and trolleybus stops are upon request. Timetables can be found here .

How to use the card in the public transport?

• When travelling on the city public transport , show the card along with your ID only to the ticket inspector upon request. When travelling on regional transport , show the card to a regional bus driver or a train conductor.

• By the plastic card incl. public transport show its reverse side containing cardholder’s name and surname, date and hour of activation.

• By the digital card incl. public transport display the generated electronic travel ticket with a QR code showing also the dynamic countdown of the card’s validity period. This electronic travel ticket can be also displayed in an offline mode .

Is it necessary to register for the free guided walking tour?

• Yes. The tour takes place daily at 14.00 and it is necessary to book the place at least 2 hours prior to the start of the tour in person, by phone or by e-mail. • The tour is available in the Slovak, English and German language (booking according to a current demand). • The minimum number of participants is two , otherwise the tour in the requested language will not be provided. Depending on the validity of the card, the cardholder will be offered another tour date or language.

Should I book also other attractions and services in advance?

• If the registration is needed, this information is stated in the Bratislava CARD brochure or on the website card.visitbratislava.com. • This applies mainly to guided tours of the city and region.

How many benefits can I use per day? Can I use individual benefits more than once?

• There is no limit to the number of benefits you can use in one day.

• If not stated otherwise, all benefits can be used repeatedly during the card’s validity period. However, most free benefits can only be used once.

What are the opening hours of attractions?

• Most museums and galleries are closed on Mondays , except the Bratislava Castle, Michael’s Tower and Museum of Jewish Culture. The last admission is at least 30 minutes before closing, unless stated otherwise. • Most shops are closed during public holidays. • Some restaurants may be closed during certain public holidays or may have revised opening hours on that day. • We strongly recommend verifying the opening hours in advance.

What if I lose my card or I do not use it?

• Unfortunately, a lost, stolen, or damaged card cannot be replaced .

• Purchased cards not used until given date cannot be refunded.

• Issued and activated plastic card may be cancelled up to 20 mins. from the purchase at an extra cost of 5 € but only at the sales point where it was purchased.

• The digital card not yet activated in the mobile app can be cancelled up to 14 days from the date of purchase. Already activated digital cards cannot be cancelled.

How to validate an IDS BK ticket

Single tickets.

The single tickets are valid from the moment of validation in the tariff zones and for the time indicated on the ticket.  The single ticket for one journey needs to be validated in the stamping machine upon getting on the first car. The stamping machines are located:

• On the platform , in the convenient visible place on your way to the train,
• On the trains of the line Záhorská Ves – Zohor – Plavecké Podhradie , you can find the stamping machines right onboard.

With a validated ticket, you are free to change for the integrated lines of all included operators.   On the track sections designated as partially integrated railway line, the ticket stamping machines are not installed.  If your journey starts on a train, please purchase your ticket at the sale point of Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko prior to the journey.  The ticket is, then, valid from the moment of the purchase and you do not need to validate it before boarding the car.  The same procedure is available, if the stamping machine is out of order. If it is not possible to purchase the IDS BK ticket in the station, it can be purchased on the train from the train personnel.   If travelling on S 8 Bratislava-Petržalka – Rusovce line, boarding in Rusovce station and travelling towards Bratislava-Petržalka, please validate your ticket by the engine driver.

Prepaid tickets

• A prepaid ticket IDS BK is saved on the contactless chip card. With the prepaid ticket, a passenger can, within the indicated zone and time validity, make an unlimited number of journeys with all the integrated operators.  This ticket does not require validation.

How to use a Troika card on Moscow’s Metro, and other ways to buy tickets

Passengers pass turnstiles at the Serpukhovskaya station of the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya Moscow metro line.

Moscow residents can now top up their Troika transport cards with the official Moscow Metro app, subway representatives announced on Oct. 31. To put money on the card, passengers simply need to download the app and transfer money via NFC connection. What other ways can you pay for riding on Moscow’s public transport?

Troika card

It’s by far the most convenient option for using public transport in the Russian capital. This plastic card is valid for five years, so you don’t need to throw it away after your trip to Russia. You can ride with a Troika on the Moscow metro, as well as Moscow’s Central Ring, buses, trams, and trolley buses.

One ride costs 35 rubles ($0.6), but if you change transport within 90 minutes you will only pay 19 rubles ($0.33) for the next journey. Further changes within those 90 minutes are free.

You can top up your card with the subway attendants who sit behind the glass panels, automated terminals, or via the special Moscow Metro app . Kiosks accept both cash and cards. According to the Moscow Metropolitan official site, you can only keep 3,000 rubles ($51) on your Troika. If you don’t use up all your credit before you leave Moscow, you can cash in the card and get your money back - but this is only possible to do at Metro Service Centers (Ulitsa 1905 Goda street, 25 or  Staraya Basmanaya Street, 20 bld 1; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily).

Your Troika’s balance can be checked on the app or on the small yellow terminals inside the metro stations.

Important point – one card should only be used by one person (the subway’s rules state that every person should have their own ticket). You can also be hit with a fine of 1,000 ($17) if caught riding the underground without a ticket.

How to get a Troika: Get the card in any metro kiosk or automated ticket office. The card is free, but you need to leave 50 rubles ($0.85) as a deposit. You can return it after.   

United (Yediny) ticket

This red paper card can have 1, 2, 20, 40, or 60 rides on any kind of Moscow public transport, and the price depends on the number of rides (more rides you buy the less you pay for a ride), from 55 rubles ($0.95) to 28 rubles ($0.48). If you plan to use transport a lot, you can buy a ticket for 60 rides for 1,700 rubles ($30). A ticket for one or two rides is only valid for five days, while other kind of tickets can be used for 90 days.

If you don’t plan to use metro, you can order a card for ground transport only (it will be dark blue with TAT letters on the cover). This card costs 1,150 rubles ($19) for 60 rides.

How to get it: You can buy this card in any metro kiosk. Cards for one or two rides can be also purchased in automated ticket offices.

Daily tickets

Muscovites often buy tickets without ride limits for specific periods – 30 days, 60 days, or one year. But Moscow Metro suggest special tickets for tourists – for one day (210 rubles, or $3.6), three days (400 rubles, $6.9) or seven days (800 rubles, $13.8). They also can be used on any kind of public transport. Tourists’ tickets also have no limit for rides.

How to get it: You can buy this card in any metro kiosk.

90 minute ticket

Another kind of ticket allows one ride on the metro and any number of rides on other Moscow public transport within 90 minutes. The card can be for one (65 rubles, or $1.1), two ($130 rubles, or $2.2), and 60 rides (2,650 rubles, or $46). This card is useful if you have to catch different kinds of transport for a short time.

It’s helpful to add this card to your Troika. Moreover, it will save the paper.

Payment via smartphones

Smartphone owners can  pay  travel fares via Samsung Pay and Apple Pay, linked with MasterCard credit card and the Wallet app. Apple Pay can also be installed on iWatch. The price for one fare costs 40 rubles ($0.7). You can also use these apps for buying usual tickets in kiosks.

Since late 2016, this system has been available at all ring railway stations and 80 metro stations across the city.

In the future, smartphone-enabled ticket turnstiles will be installed at all Moscow metro stations.

How to get it: Download the Samsung Pay and Apple Pay and start riding!

Unique tickets have recently appeared in Moscow. Bracelets, rings, and keychains with transport microchips are not only a souvenir from the Russian capital, but also a serious way to use metropolitan. The deposit price for a bracelet is 450 rubles ($8), for a keychain – 350 rubles ($6). One ring costs 2,200 rubles ($38). The price for a fare is the same as for the Troika card.

How to get it: Only at the Pushkinskaya metro station souvenir kiosk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations.

Actually there are other options to inserts transport microchip – for example, in 2015 Moscow engineer Vlad Zaitsev implanted a chip in his hand, so all he has to do is wave at the turnstile and he’s away - but we recommend enjoying Moscow’s transport in a more conventional way.

What do you need to do before you set foot on a plane? Keep your finances safe with some simple steps.

• Make your cards travel-ready: With the TBK Bank Card feature in mobile banking you can utilize Manage Travel Plans to set up travel plans before you leave. This will avoid disruption when using your debit card while traveling. Some other issuers ask you to notify them if you are going out of state.
• Set up Mobile Banking: Install the TBK Bank mobile app * and the apps for your other banks, making sure to set up electronic banking before you travel. This enables you to monitor your account, check transactions, and receive alerts for any suspicious activity while on the go.
• Check your IDs: Consider carrying at least two valid permanent forms of ID with you. Carry one ID in your wallet and one in your luggage in case your wallet is lost or stolen.
• Set your PIN: It’s a good idea to prepare your PIN before traveling abroad as some international ATMs and credit card transactions require a four-digit PIN. Try to memorize your PIN and avoid writing it on your card or keeping it in your wallet. Be sure your PIN does not start with a zero and know your PIN by the numbers, as some foreign ATMs do not have letters on the keypads.
• Pay your bills: Take care of bills before you travel. Using the Bill Pay feature within online banking, you can schedule payments to be sent while you’re away. Also, consider signing up for paperless billing so you’ll have less paper waiting for you when you return.
• Consider using tools that help protect your card transactions from fraud while you travel. For example, when turned on, your phone’s location services may be able to verify card transactions when you make a purchase in an unusual place.

• Determine your spending: If you’re traveling internationally, check to see if U.S. dollars are widely accepted in your destination. If you identify the need for foreign currency, you may want to visit an exchange before you travel. This way, when you land, you’ll have local currency ready to go so you can pay for taxis, snacks, and other incidentals without having to track down a currency exchange.
• Hold your mail: Contact the post office about holding your mail for a period of time. In addition to keeping your mailbox clear, this helps keep sensitive information in your mail, like bank and credit card statements, more secure.
• Be careful what you share online: Posting updates or photos to social media about your travel plans may be a fun way to share the experience with others, but it’s important to make sure you’re aware of who can see them. Update privacy settings on your social media accounts to ensure you’re only sharing with those you know and trust.

Everything to Know About the REAL ID — Including How to Get One and When to Use It

Here's when you'll actually need to get a REAL ID.

You've probably seen the signage for REAL IDs all over the airport, but do you know what it actually is? As recommended by the 9/11 Commission, Congress passed the REAL ID Act to set security standards for forms of identification like driver's licenses back in 2005. The act ultimately requires anyone accessing certain federal facilities, boarding commercial aircraft, or entering nuclear power plants to use an ID that meets these standards. But as of today, the REAL ID Act hasn't been enforced . "The deadlines have been pushed out several times, with the current date of May 7, 2025," says Dr. Sheldon Jacobson, a professor of computer science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a research background in aviation security. Here's what you need to know about REAL IDs, especially as it relates to air travel.

What is a REAL ID and do I need one?

A REAL ID is a government-issued ID that meets federal security standards. Now, most "regular" state-issued driver's licenses do not meet these standards. That's why every state (plus Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories) has developed a new driver's license that's REAL ID–compliant — it'll have a star on the upper portion of the card. When the REAL ID Act becomes enforced, you will need to use a REAL ID–compliant form of identification at airport security . If you don't have one, you won't be permitted to enter the airport.

But do you absolutely need a REAL ID–compliant driver's license to get through airport security? The answer is no. There are other compliant forms of ID for those who don't have a driver's license. "You can use a passport, or other forms of ID that have a higher level of validation. A Global Entry card would also work," says Jacobson. Check out some of the options below, and find the full list of acceptable IDs on Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website .

• U.S. passport card
• DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, Nexus, Sentri, Fast)
• Permanent resident card
• An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized, Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe
• HSPD-12 PIV card
• Foreign government-issued passport

It's also important to note a REAL ID will only be required of travelers 18 years and older. Children do not need an ID to fly, per the TSA.

When do I need to get a REAL ID?

At the time of publication, the enforcement date of the Real ID Act is May 7, 2025. But Jacobson believes the deadline might be further delayed. "The airlines cannot support any measure that may prohibit a ticketed passenger from flying. Congress will find some reason to delay its implementation once again," he says.

It's a reasonable suspicion — the act was originally supposed to go into effect in 2008. But it took states and territories years to get on board, with some states protesting the cost and others concerned about privacy issues. Only in December 2022 did all jurisdictions offer REAL IDs.

In the event the REAL ID Act does go into effect on May 7, 2025, it's best to get your enhanced driver's license sooner rather than later to avoid any potential backlogs as the date nears.

How do I get a REAL ID?

The process of acquiring a REAL ID–compliant driver's license varies per state — you should consult the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to learn more. It also depends on whether you're applying for a driver's license for the first time or upgrading an existing valid driver's license to a REAL ID. Generally speaking, you'll need to visit a DMV office, bring with you certain documents for identification, and possibly pay a processing fee.

Or, if you don't want to upgrade your driver's license, you can always travel with another REAL ID–compliant form of identification, like your passport or Global Entry card.

U.s. citizens, u.s. nationals, or lawful permanent residents.

You must provide an original or certified copy* of identity/citizenship status documentation during the application process and the names on all documents must match exactly with the name provided on the application. If you have legally changed your name, you must provide an original or certified name change document (such as marriage certificates and divorce decrees) in addition to the required documentation.

Please bring one of the documents in List A to an application center.

If you do not have a document from List A, please see List B documents.

• Permanent Resident Card (I-551) often referred to as a “Green Card”
• Unexpired Foreign Passport AND immigrant visa with I-551 annotation of “Upon Endorsement Serves as Temporary I-551 Evidencing Permanent Residence of 1 Year”
• Unexpired Re-entry Permit (I-327)

*An original or certified copy of a document must be issued by a Federal, State, Tribal, county, municipal authority, or outlying possession bearing an official seal. Short form or abstract birth certificates and notarized copies of documents are not acceptable.

At least two documents are required if you do not have a document from List A. The documents must include:

• a valid photo ID, and
• a document that meets citizenship requirements. (e.g. one document from each column below)

Valid Photo ID

• Unexpired driver’s license issued by a State or outlying possession of the U.S.
• Unexpired temporary driver’s license plus expired driver’s license (constitutes one document)
• Unexpired photo ID card issued by the federal government or by a State or outlying possession of the U.S. This must include a federal agency, State or State agency seal or logo (such as a State university ID). Permits are not considered valid identity documents (such as gun permits).
• Unexpired U.S. military ID card
• Unexpired U.S. retired military ID card
• Unexpired U.S. military dependent’s card
• Native American tribal document with photo
• Unexpired Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/ Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Unexpired Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)

Valid Proof of Citizenship

• U.S. Birth Certificate
• U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (N-560 or N-561)
• U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (N-550 or N-570)
• U.S. Citizen Identification Card (I-179 or I-197)
• Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240)
• Certification of Report of Birth Abroad (DS-1350 or FS-545)
• Expired U.S. passport within 12 months of expiration

**A passport cannot be used as a List A document if it is expired. If it has expired within the past 12 months, it can be used, but only as a proof of citizenship (List B). Additionally, an expired U.S. passport may not be presented by itself. It must be presented with at least one other List B document.

Eligibility to get a passport

If you are not able to renew your U.S. passport , or if this is your first one, you will need to apply for a new passport. To be eligible, you must be either:

• A U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization or
• A qualifying U.S. non-citizen national

You must apply in person at a passport acceptance facility for a new passport. It cannot be done online or by mail.

What do you need to get a passport?

The application process for passport books and passport cards is the same. You will choose which type of passport you want when you fill out the application. Learn about the differences between passport books and passport cards.

There are 4 things you will need to apply for and get your U.S. passport.

• You can Fill out Form DS-11 online and print it, or 
• Download Form DS-11 [PDF, 5 pages, 1.9 MB] and fill it out by hand, or
• Find your local passport acceptance facility or regional agency and pick up Form DS-11.
• Do not sign Form DS-11 until you are at your appointment and the passport acceptance official tells you to do so. 
• Original proof of citizenship - Learn about what qualifies as primary citizenship evidence or what secondary evidence may qualify if you do not have primary evidence.
• An acceptable photo ID
• A photocopy of both your citizenship document and photo ID
• Passport photo
• Passport fee

Apply in person. Find your local passport acceptance facility. This facility could be a library or post office. Some facilities require appointments or have limited hours.

Seniors 60+

Seniors from 60 years of age, who are recipients of an old age pension, disability pension or service pensions, have the right for a reduced fare.

They prove the right for the reduced fare when applying for a smart card by presenting a certificate about receiving the old age pension, invalidity pension or service pension issued by the Social Insurance Agency of the Slovak Republic, or by presenting an identification card of a pensioner issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

Seniors 62+

Passengers older than 62 years travel automatically for the reduced fare. They prove the right for the reduction with an identity document.

Seniors 70+

Passengers older than 70 years are entitled for a special fare, which is provided in the form of a 365 day prepaid travel ticket – SeniorPas IDS BK. A person without a SeniorPas can, similarly as a 62+ seniors, use reduced travel tickets.

It is possible to record a SeniorPas only electronically on to a smart card issued by one of the transport operators. The SeniorPas is free.

• Both parents or guardians must approve that we can issue a passport to a child, and go with the child to apply in person.
• If one or both parents or guardians cannot apply with their child, you will need to show us more documents.
• You cannot renew your child's passport using Form DS-82.
• Passports for children under age 16 are only valid for 5 years. 

Steps to Apply

1. fill out form ds-11 and print it.

Use our Form Filler tool  to fill out your child's form on a desktop or laptop computer and then print it. If you are experiencing technical issues with the Form Filler, download a PDF . 

Tips to complete your child's form :

• Do not sign your child's form until asked to do so by a passport acceptance agent or employee. 
• You can apply for a passport book , a passport card , or both documents.
• You may ask for a larger passport book with more visa pages, at no extra cost, by checking the 'large book' box at the top of the DS-11.

2. Get Evidence of U.S. Citizenship (and a photocopy)

Your evidence must be an original or replacement copy. The document must have the official seal or stamp of the office which issued it. You must submit one of the following documents for your child:

• Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
• Lists applicant's full name, date of birth, and place of birth
• Lists the parent(s)' full names
• Has the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
• Has the registrar's signature
• Has the seal or stamp of the city, county, or state which issued it
• Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
• Certificate of Citizenship
• Please note you must also provide a document, such as a birth certificate, that lists the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child. Full validity means the document is or was valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children under 16.

Paper only : You cannot submit digital evidence of U.S. citizenship such as a mobile or electronic birth certificate. You must submit physical evidence of U.S. citizenship and a photocopy of the document. 

Returning your child's document : We will return your child's document in a separate mailing up to 8 weeks after you receive the new passport.

Tips for making a photocopy :

• Black and white (no color)
• Use 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper
• Use a single side of the paper

If you do not submit a photocopy, you must submit a second copy of your citizenship evidence. We will keep this copy for our records.

3. Show Your Relationship to Your Child

You must submit a document that lists the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child. Examples include:

• U.S. birth certificate (also evidence of U.S. citizenship)
• Foreign birth certificate
• Adoption decree
• Divorce or custody decree
• A court order

Some documents, like a U.S. birth certificate, show  both  U.S. citizenship and parental relationship. These documents must be originals or certified copies (not photocopies).

You and your child may have different last names, as long as the document showing your relationship to your child lists your full name.

If your name is different than the one on the document showing your relationship to your child, submit proof of your legal name change.

4. Get a Photo ID (and a photocopy)

Both parents or guardians must bring a physical, photo ID and a photocopy of it. If your photo ID is from a different state than the state in which you are applying, bring a second photo ID. 

You must show at least  one  of these photo IDs:

• Valid or expired, undamaged U.S. passport book or passport card 
• In-state, fully valid driver's license or enhanced driver's license with photo
• Certificate of Naturalization 
• Certificate of Citizenship 
• Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
• U.S. military or military dependent ID
• Current (valid) foreign passport
• Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular ID) used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
• U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
• Trusted Traveler IDs (including valid Global Entry, FAST, SENTRI, and NEXUS cards)
• Enhanced Tribal Cards and Native American tribal photo IDs
• In-state, fully-valid learner's permit with photo
• In-state, fully-valid non-driver ID with photo
• Temporary driver's license with photo

5. Show More Documents (if both parents or guardians cannot apply)

• Both parents or guardians must approve that we can issue a passport to a child, and go with the child to apply in person.
• If one or both parents or guardians cannot apply in person with their child, you will need to show more documents.

Important : Submit  Form DS-3053  and other notarized statements within three months of signing them.

6. Provide a Photo

You must provide one photo with your child's application. Go to our  Passport Photo page  for photo requirements and to see examples of photos. 

• Do not attach or staple your child's photo to the form. The acceptance agent or passport employee will review the photo and staple it to your form.

7. Calculate Fees

When applying using Form DS-11, you will pay two separate fees - an application fee and an execution (acceptance) fee. You will pay the application fee to the U.S. Department of State, and the execution (acceptance) fee to the facility which takes your application. 

• Add $60 to your application fee if you want  expedited service .
• Add $19.53 to your application fee if you want us to ship your completed passport in 1-2 days after we issue it.

*How to fill out your check and pay the application fee to the U.S. Department of State. Please note you must pay a separate execution (acceptance) fee. 

Families may write one check or money order to the U.S. Department of State if they are applying at the same time. The check or money order must include the name and date of birth of each applicant.

8. Find Location to Apply

In the United States:

• Traveling in more than 3 weeks?  Go to a  passport acceptance facility  such as a post office, library, or local government office. Check with the facility to see if you need to make an appointment. 
• Traveling in less than 3 weeks?   Make an appointment  to apply at a passport agency or center.

In another country:

• Contact your  U.S. embassy or consulate .

9. Track Your Application Status

You can  subscribe to email updates  about your application status, and  learn more about each status update .

It may take 2 weeks from the day you apply until your child's application status is “In Process.” 

Frequently Asked Questions

How will you send my child's passport and supporting documents.

You will get multiple mailings. The number of mailings depends on what document(s) you asked for.

Passport Book : You may get your new passport and citizenship documents in two mailings. You may wait 8 weeks after getting your passport before you get a second mailing with your citizenship documents. We will return the passport book using a trackable delivery service.

Passport Card : You may get your new passport card and your citizenship documents in two mailings. You may wait 8 weeks after getting your passport before you get a second mailing with your citizenship documents. We only send the passport card via First Class Mail. We do not send cards using 1-2 day delivery services.

Both a Passport Book and Card : You may get three separate mailings:

• New passport book
• New passport card
• Citizenship documents

Contacting Us : If you have been waiting more than 8 weeks for your documents, call us at  1-877-487-2778  to report that you have not received your documents. 

If you want us to reimburse you for a lost supporting document, you must contact us within 90 days of the date which we mailed your passport. You will also need to provide a receipt to show the cost of replacing the document. 

Can I pay for faster delivery and return shipping?

Yes. You may choose one or both of the following shipment options:

• Delivering application to us : Pay for Priority Mail Express for faster shipping. The price for this service varies depending on the area of the country.
• Returning the passport to you : Pay $19.53 for 1-2 day delivery. This means you will receive your passport   1-2 days after we send it. Include this fee with your check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State. Do not submit a return envelope to us with postage pre-paid. 

You may receive your passport and supporting documents in separate mailings. If you are renewing a passport card, we will send it to you via First Class Mail. We do not use 1-2 day delivery services if you only applied for a passport card.

What countries require Form DS-3053 "Statement of Consent" to be notarized at an embassy or consulate?

In certain countries, a DS-3053 must be notarized at a  U.S. embassy or consulate  and cannot be notarized by a local notary public. Currently, these countries include:
