A Quick Branson Travel Guide & Branson Itinerary

Growing up Logan and I spent a fair amount of time in family-friendly and affordable Branson, Missouri. In fact, we always joke that it’s a wonder that we didn’t end up meeting in Branson instead of in college!

We decided that while Branson isn’t a big city, it can still be overwhelming trying to find places to stay, places to eat, and things to do in Branson. So we thought it would be helpful to combine our experiences in Branson for an overall helpful Branson travel guide and itinerary.

Where is Branson?

Branson is located in southwest Missouri nestled in the Ozark Mountains. It is a popular place to visit for a family-friendly vacation or romantic getaway in nearby Ridgedale which is where we happened to get married. Overall, Branson has a lot to offer to all different parties!

Where to Stay in Branson

One of the things we love most about Branson is that it can accommodate any budget. You can find a number of luxurious hotels, rustic cabins, budget-friendly hotels, and places perfect for larger families.

LUXURY HOTELS IN BRANSON

Big Cedar Lodge

Big Cedar Lodge - Ridgedale, Missouri

While Big Cedar Lodge is technically not right in Branson, this is by far our favorite place to stay while in the area due to the location and amenities it has to offer. Big Cedar has a wide variety of accommodations from those that are more budget-friendly and luxurious. While we’ve stayed here a number of times we have yet to stay in all of them.

A more cost-friendly option than the hotel lodge or cabins is to stay at the Big Cedar Wilderness Club . These are timeshare properties but let us be clear, we do not own one. We often find deals on eBay from people renting out their property.

Chateau on the Lake Resort & Spa

Chateau on the Lake Resort & Spa

For those who are looking for a more traditional hotel with luxury accommodations and impeccable service consider booking your stay at the Chateau on the Lake Resort & Spa . We’ve stayed here once before and while it’s a slightly older hotel, we were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. Like Big Cedar Lodge (above), Chateau on the Lake offers on-site spa services, dining, and scenic views.

Cost: Starting at $139/night through their website or $129/night

MID-RANGE HOTELS IN BRANSON

Wyndham Branson at the Meadows

Though also a timeshare property you’ll love how close the Wyndham Branson at the Meadows is to all of the Branson activities. It was really terrific for the price. The accommodations we had, offered two bedrooms and a loft (essential when staying with larger parties). It also had a spacious kitchen and dining area perfect for those who want to cook or play some family games at the table.

Cost: starting at $139/night

Hilton Branson Convention Center

Located right on the Branson Landing, the Hilton Branson Convention Center hotel is convenient and beautiful to stay at! You can easily head out of your hotel room and walk along The Landing for shopping and dining. It is also just minutes from other Branson shows and entertainment such as Silver Dollar City.

Cost:  starting at $129/night

BUDGET HOTELS IN BRANSON

Honeysuckle Inn and Conference Center

If you’re looking for a budget place to stay the Honeysuckle Inn and Conference Center is perfect for larger groups who are on a budget. It’s also in a fabulous location just minutes from countless attractions and restaurants. We’ve stayed there a few times when visiting for a weekend with friends or family because they have rooms with up to three queen beds. It can be a little crowded at times but it’s great for those looking for just a place to sleep and spend the majority of the day out and about in Branson.

Cost: starting at $59/night

Twelve Oaks Inn

Twelve Oaks Inn - Branson places to stay

While this is definitely not the most glamorous of places, the Twelve Oaks Inn is clean, and perfect if you are needing something affordable on the Branson strip. We stayed here once while Logan was in Optometry School. During this time we were on a REALLY tight budget but wanted to go somewhere for spring break. Another added perk is it also has a complimentary breakfast and a mini-fridge.

Cost: Starting at $45/night

Things to Do in Branson, Missouri

Branson honestly has the perfect blend of outdoor activities, indoor shows, amusement parks, and adventure activities. Even with the countless times we’ve been to Branson, we still haven’t attended every show or visited every attraction. However, we’ve included some of our favorites and we think these things to do in Branson are enough to get you started in this Branson travel guide.

LIVE SHOWS TO SEE IN BRANSON

It’s no secret that Branson is somewhat touristy, hence the plethora of shows that you can attend. Last we checked there were over 100! Most of the shows in Branson are family-friendly and range from comedy, impersonation, magic, acrobatic, and dinner theatre!

Dolly Parton’s Stampede

Dolly Partons Stampede - Branson travel guide

Photo courtesy of the Branson Convention and Visitors Bureau

As a kid, I always loved visiting Dolly Parton’s Stampede and now as an adult, I love Dolly even more. But not only is this a show but it has also even been named Branson’s Most Fun Place to Eat.

Once seated you’ll be served a four-course meal featuring an array of Southern cooking like creamy vegetable soup, rotisserie chicken, barbecue pork loin, buttery corn on the cob, herbed potato, and dessert. If you’re vegetarian they also have a veggie pasta option!

While enjoying your meal you’ll witness the magnificent parade of horses along with their riders who perform tricks, dances, and more. Dolly Parton’s Stampede is a must-visit for anyone visiting Branson.

Location: 1525 76 Country Blvd, Branson // MAP Cost : $55/adult, $30/child

Sight & Sound Theatres

Sight and Sound Theatre - Branson travel guide

Every few years the Sight & Sound Theater comes out with a new performance based on a Biblical story. Each time we have visited, the shows have been comparable to those we have seen in other theaters. They have really dedicated actors and actresses, amazing sets, and beautiful songs. This is a must-do if you are into theatrical performances or musicals.

Location: 1001 Shepherd of the Hills Expy #8007, Branson // MAP Cost:  $49/adult, $23/child

Acrobats of Shanghai

Acrobats of Shanghai in Branson

The Acrobats of Shanghai are unlike any of the other things to do in Branson. In this two-hour performance, there are beautiful costumes and scenery complete with the unbelievable art of acrobatics that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat! Each of the performers is incredibly talented and has a specific skill they showcase throughout the show such as chair balancing, foot juggling, aerial acrobatics, and plate spinning. This is by far one of the most exciting Branson shows around.

Location : 470 State Hwy 248, Branson // MAP Cost: $40/adult, $20/ages 5-15

Legends in Concert

Elvis impersonator - Legends in Concert, things to do in Branson - Branson travel guide

Do you have a singer that you swoon over? As a kid and teenager, I couldn’t get enough of Michael Jackson’s music. At Legends in Concert , professional impersonators sing the tunes of former and current artists so well you might even think you’re getting the real deal. When we attended Legends in Concert we saw Elvis, Johnny Cash, Barbra Streisand, and Frank Sinatra but their set rotates weekly so be sure to check and see who is performing before booking this Branson travel guide attraction.

Location : 1600 76 Country Blvd, Branson // MAP Cost: $38.50/adult, $16.18/child

Showboat Branson Belle

Showboat Branson Belle on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri

Another unique dinner theatre you can experience in Branson is the Showboat Branson Belle where you can set sail on Table Rock Lake and enjoy a three-course meal while watching a variety of performances including comedy, music, and magic. The Showboat Branson Belle is a one-of-a-kind experience and is the largest ship to be built on a land-locked late to date!

MUSEUMS IN BRANSON

Ripley’s believe it or not.

As a kid, I used to BEG my parents to let me buy the newest Ripley’s Believe It or Not book at our school book fair. Then as an adult, I finally visited Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum ! If you enjoy being bamboozled, disturbed, or are a fellow Ripley’s book lover, this is the place for you. There are over 450 exhibits in the eight themed galleries at this Ripley’s Believe It or Not location so step right up and see what crazy artifacts you can find!

Location : 1335 State Hwy 76, Branson // MAP Cost: $22/adult, $12/student

Titanic Museum

Outside of the Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri

Of all the museums in Branson, the Titanic Museum is by far my favorite. As you enter the museum, you’ll find yourself aboard this famous ship and receive a boarding pass of an actual passenger or crew member telling a few details about their life. Later on in the museum, you’ll discover the fate of this passenger.

Before you start thinking this is a tourist trap, I’ll admit that while some of the artifacts are replicas, there are over 400 authentic artifacts that are from the actual ship and its passengers. This museum is informative, interactive, and all-around fascinating!

Location : 3235 76 Country Blvd, Branson // MAP Cost : $30/adult, $14/child

Silver Dollar City

The Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

“If you’ve never been to Silver Dollar City, imagine you’re at Cracker Barrel and there’s a roller coaster attached to the gift shop.” Yep, I think that tweet just about sums it up perfectly and I can’t remember who said it, so let me know who to credit. Silver Dollar City is an 1880’s amusement park with 30 different rides, live entertainment, crafts, and shopping.

Rides you can’t miss at Silver Dollar City :

  • Time Traveler : The newest roller coaster at Silver Dollar City that spins you as your riding.
  • Powder Keg : A roller coaster that launches you from 0 to 53 mph in 2.8 seconds!
  • WildFire : A looping coaster that reaches speeds of 66 mph.
  • Fire-In-The-Hole : A low-key indoor roller coaster that is perfect for those who are wanting to experience their first coaster (it only has one small drop!).
  • The Giant Barn Swing : Swing seven stories high at 45 mph.

A few of our favorite places to eat at Silver Dollar City are the Tater Twist stand, Fry Bread Company for one of their sandwiches, Crossroads Pizza, and Eva & Delilah’s Bakery for a breakfast item or snack. Once upon a time Logan may or may not have spent $50 on the cheesy breadsticks at Eva and Delilah’s. Don’t worry, he shared… sort of. For those that are curious about dietary restrictions, Silver Dollar City offers a number of gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan options too!

Throughout the year there are a number of festivals, our favorites being the Fall Harvest Festival and the Old Time Christmas which is absolutely magical with millions of lights on display.

Christmas in Midtown at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

We love this place so much we typically spend a whole day here whenever we visit Branson and even bought season passes last year. With the variety of activities offered at Silver Dollar City, it’s great for ALL ages and is by far our favorite attraction in this Branson itinerary.

All of the meat is never frozen so you can trust that you’re getting a plate of fresh good ol’ fashioned BBQ.

The 15 Best Things to Do in Branson, Missouri

travel guide to branson missouri

Branson’s natural beauty and effortless Ozark hospitality have welcomed travelers for more than a century, when visitors first arrived seeking to experience the peaceful scene described in Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel, "The Shepherd of the Hills." Much has changed since those early frontier days, as the city has grown into an entertainment destination that lays claim to famed amusement parks, more than 100 live shows daily, and interactive museums around every corner.

Despite being the "Live Entertainment Capital of the World," Branson has managed to retain its Ozark charm and beauty, with the town's pristine backdrop of verdant hills and sparkling lakes promising adventure before and after the curtain calls.

From the family-friendly nightlife scene at Branson Landing that defies generational mores to heart-pounding adventures on Table Rock Lake—and yes, so many live shows—here are the best things to do in Branson, Missouri.

Ride the Rollercoasters at Silver Dollar City

It’s not only thrill rides that attract visitors to this 100-acre park—although it is home to some truly great ones, including “The Time Traveler” (the world’s fastest, steepest, and tallest spinning coaster) and “Outlaw Run” (the world’s first and only wooden coaster to feature a double barrel roll). There are 100 resident craftsmen that set up shop throughout Silver Dollar City , demonstrating everything from glass blowing to candy making. Live performances are held on one of the 12 stage venues or on the streets, where the smell of roasting succotash fills the air. The holidays are particularly spectacular at this 1880s theme park, but seasonal festivals—like the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival—keep things exciting throughout the year.

Get Out on At Least One of the Three Lakes

Branson’s three sparkling lakes stay warm enough year-round to avoid a full freeze, meaning aquatic adventures take place on all three lakes throughout the entire year. Showboat Branson Belle offers the easiest way to get out on the water without a boating license; transforming into a floating stage on Table Rock Lake, it features live performances that take place during an elaborate three-course meal. Meanwhile, boat rentals (speed, fishing, pontoon, etc.) and guided services are offered on the commercial docks along Lake Taneycomo and Bull Shoals Lake, where local operators can help arrange fishing permits, provide fishing gear , and point out the best spots to try to land one of the region’s famed 50-pound stripers.

Visit the Titanic Museum Attraction

The immersive experience begins upon arrival at the Titanic Museum Attraction, when visitors are given a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger or crew member who sailed on the RMS Titanic. Throughout the roughly two-hour, self-guided tour, you'll stroll the replicated halls, galleys, and cabins, viewing the museum’s more than 400 artifacts before uncovering your passenger’s fate in the memorial room. Along the way, you'll have the chance to send an SOS signal, listen to stories while sitting in an actual size lifeboat, try to balance on the sloping decks of the ship’s descending stern, and even hold your hands beneath 28-degree water.

See a Live Show

Branson Convention and Visitors Bureau / Flickr

There are upwards of 100 shows for visitors to choose from on any given day in Branson, which is exactly why it’s become known as the Live Entertainment Capital of the World. Shows at the Sight and Sound Theatre feature Biblical performances of epic proportions (i.e., trained animals take the stage alongside award-winning actors), while The Clay Cooper Theatre plays home to six incredibly skilled, Ozark-raised siblings—The Haygoods—who often perform to a sold-out crowd. There are shows for kids ( Amazing Pets ) and shows that serve food ( Dolly Parton’s Stampede Dinner Attraction )—but no matter which one you check out, each is rated family-friendly, even Russian-born comedian Yakov Smirnoff ’s hilarious standup-up comedy acts.

Look Out from Inspiration Tower at Shepherd of the Hills

This 230-foot tower rises above the same soil that inspired Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel, The "Shepherd of the Hills" (which became the first novel to sell one million copies in the U.S.). The Shepherd of the Hills today is a family entertainment park with an adventure park, historic farm, and live performance venue all rolled into one stunning destination. Visitors board a glass elevator to reach the top of Inspiration Tower, where they can gaze out on the raw beauty of the Ozarks before having the option of taking the Vigilante Extreme ZipRider zipline to get back down to ground level. Dinner theater shows run throughout the year, but guests should book at least five months in advance to score tickets to the popular holiday shows.

Eat Blackberry Cobbler

Farmhouse Restaurant / Facebook

In pure Ozark tradition, the best blackberry cobblers are made with local berries that stew and bubble in their pot over an open fire, just like the early settlers used to make it. Today, visitors to Branson will find countless renditions of this Ozark staple—check out the scratch-made cobbler at Gettin’ Basted or the free nightly cobbler for guests of the Savannah House Hotel . But it’s the cobbler at The Farmhouse Restaurant that holds the reputation—and the awards—as the best in town. The restaurant's version is near perfection as it is, but when served à la mode with either cinnamon or vanilla ice cream, it’s easy to see why visitors travel for miles just for a scoop of this sweet treat.

Walk the Branson Landing Boardwalk

Branson Landing is a one-stop shop for dining, shopping, and entertainment, and it’s become a family-friendly nightlife location, where distilleries and breweries share pedestrian traffic with candy shops and toy stores. The paved boardwalk extends 1.5 miles from the shops along Lake Taneycomo, offering a natural escape from the storefronts and restaurants. Guests can catch views of Canadian geese, ducks, or even bald eagles on the short urban hike, with plenty of time to make it back in time for the spectacular fountain show back at Branson Landing.

Spend the Night at The Keeter Center

This 15-suite hotel is set on the campus of College of the Ozarks (a.k.a. Hard Work U), where a tuition-free policy allows students to work for their education at any of the more than 100 campus jobs or industries. The lodge provides onsite training for College of the Ozarks students who handle the experience from check-in to check-out. In-room amenities include complimentary treats and beverages, like fresh milk from the W. Alton Jones Campus Dairy and homemade cookies at turndown (baked fresh by the culinary arts students). Check out the gift shop to bring home more Hard Work U finds—think handmade candles or freshly milled and mixed waffle mix—and support these students on their path toward higher education.

Take the Lantern Tour at Marvel Cave

Marvel Cave has been welcoming visitors into its cavernous limestone halls since 1894, when it opened as the first tourist attraction in Branson. In fact, it was the cave that eventually led to the inception of Silver Dollar City, as long lines of visitors needed entertainment during their wait to enter the cave. Marvel Cave today lies beneath the theme park and remains one of the deepest caves in the state. Admission during the day is complimentary with admission to Silver Dollar City, except for the last tour of the day (The Lantern Light Tour), which costs an additional $16 per person. The tour books up quickly, and guests are guided by the light of a lantern throughout this 90-minute experience, during which you'll hear stories and see rooms only told and displayed on this tour.

Ride the Ozark Zephyr

The Branson Scenic Railway dates back to 1902 when the first spike was placed. Over the years, the railroad has brought in both goods and tourists to Branson, but today it operates as a leisure journey through the Ozark Mountains. Guests boarding the Ozark Zephyr step back in time on the vintage passenger train for daytime excursions (March through November), dinner train experiences (Saturdays from April through October), and “The Polar Express” (after dark during the months of November and December). The Polar Express journey sells out almost immediately after tickets are released at midnight in April of the same year, but the lucky ticket holders will be in for a truly memorable hour-and-a-half experience.

Shop at Dicks 5 & 10

If it feels like stepping back in time when entering this family-owned shop, it’s because that’s exactly what’s happening. Dick’s 5 & 10 is one of the last remaining five-and-dime stores in operation, which opened in 1961 by Dick Hartley and is currently run by his son and son-in-law. The duo keeps the old-timey experience authentic with nostalgic toys, sodas, and candies, as well as kitschy gifts and practical home goods. Plan at least an hour to wander through the well-stocked aisles of this downtown shop, and, in true five-and-dime fashion, make sure to pick up a few items that you never knew you needed.

Embrace Your Inner Child at the World’s Largest Toy Museum

There are actually eight separate museums throughout the two buildings that comprise this expansive complex. Guests are greeted by two life-sized toy soldiers upon arrival, and then encouraged to explore and, yes, play among the interactive exhibits within the museum (i.e., Hot Wheels track, Lincoln Logs, etc.). Walls of Barbie dolls and Pez dispensers guide the self-guided pathways through the museum’s treasures, which include no less than one million toys. Don’t miss the collection of McDonald’s happy meal toys that range from the 19th century to the present day.

Have Some Barbecue

Gettin' Basted / Facebook

Like most things in Branson, barbecue in this entertaining town is all about the experience. Branson barbecue is a mix of Southern styles that come together on one heaping tray of flavor, with sauces and rubs sitting side-by-side. Big D’s BBQ has the awards to prove it’s the local favorite; it's best-known for its Texas-style brisket and Memphis-style ribs, seasoned in a house-made blend of dry rubs which you can bring home from the gift shop. Gettin’ Basted claims to have pioneered Ozark-style barbecue, which is cooked hot and fast over live wood coals in 55-gallon barrels. The pulled pork is tender and smoky (and especially good on the barbecue nachos), and the poblano creamed corn brulée tastes every bit as exciting as it sounds.

Play a Round of Mini-Golf

Mini-golf is far from a pastime in Branson: it’s a big deal in this entertainment-crazed town. There are plenty of options, from glow-in-the-dark courses open late into the evening to a Big Foot-themed course that traverses frozen tundra and a research lab. The animatronics at Grand Country’s Farm Mini Golf course immerses putters in the daily life of a whimsical farm, while the Cave Country Mini Golf Course at Talking Rocks Cavern puts an educational spin on the sport as visitors navigate sinkholes and waterfalls.

Ride the Branson Wheel

This 240-passenger Ferris wheel arrived in The Track Family Fun Park in 2016 after a very successful stint on Chicago’s Navy Pier. From the top of the wheel, passengers can see the whole town below and take in the sights of the lush Ozark landscape. At night, the Ferris wheel illuminates the sky with more than 16,000 LED lights that dance and move along to a five-minute choreographed musical routine (played throughout Track 4, and also on 90.9 FM) on the hour every hour after dark. Pro tip: Book your ride just before dusk to see the lights flicker on throughout town, and then make your way to the Fuel Fresh American Grill to sit back with a funnel cake or a cold beer and watch the wheel’s spectacular performance.

Branson shines brightest during the holidays, when the entire town goes crazy for Christmas. Whether you celebrate or not, it’s hard to pass up the ingenuity and the sheer number of sparkling lights that go into making the holidays magical in the Ozarks.

Even though the landscape is raw and inviting for outdoor enthusiasts, Branson will always be best known for its live entertainment.

Many visitors come to Branson by tour bus, and, although the free Downtown Trolley and shuttles/taxis make it possible to navigate the town sans car, there is definitely more freedom for exploration if you have your own set of wheels.

Why Go To Branson

Attracting visitors for more than five decades, Branson is often described as a "family-friendly Las Vegas" for its abundance of kid-approved attractions . This southwest Missouri city, which is nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, was named after Reuben Branson, the postmaster and the proprietor of the area's general store in the late 19th century.

More than a century later, Branson retains some of its old-timey charm, especially in its  Silver Dollar City  amusement park, which was modeled after a mining town in the 1880s and is considered one of the top amusement parks in the U.S. Even the Branson Strip, which glows with neon lights and is lined with dozens of theaters performing shows that range from country western family acts to comedy routines, possesses a yesteryear ambiance. That's not to say that Branson is a sleepy Midwestern city – amusement parks, shopping centers, museums and natural attractions like  Table Rock Lake  pepper the area, giving visitors more than enough to fill a weeklong vacation or even a quick daytrip from nearby Springfield . In fact, many of Branson's visitors find themselves coming back year after year.

Branson Travel Tips

Best months to visit.

The best time to visit Branson is in November and December when the entire town gets into the holiday spirit and transforms into a winter wonderland. The months between June and August are another peak season for this family-friendly destination, and as such, the city is inundated with crowds (and heat). To get the best deals on hotel rates, travelers should come in January and February but should be warned that some of the top things to do , such as  Silver Dollar City  and  White Water Branson , are closed for the season. The months between September and October and March through May are shoulder seasons; visitors should consider these periods if they want to beat the crowds and the extreme temperatures of summer and winter. Luckily, many of Branson's hotels offer affordable rates year-round.

What You Need to Know

Bring or rent your own set of wheels You'll need a car to explore Branson, but luckily parking is free and abundant just about anywhere you go in the city.

Avoid the Branson Strip Steer clear of the Branson Strip, also known as Missouri Route 76, especially when theaters let out as the traffic can be thick.

Stop by the chamber of commerce Located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and Highway 248, the chamber has all sorts of maps and useful information for enjoying your time in Branson.

How to Save Money in Branson

Book a combo package  If you're planning to hit more than one or two of the best things to do, book a combination package and score a discount. The  Titanic Museum  offers several different packages.

Enjoy the freebies  Some of the best things to do , including swimming in  Table Rock Lake  or touring the  Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery , don't cost a thing.

Pack your lunch  Some of the city's top attractions allow visitors to bring their own food. Avoid overpriced concession snacks by taking a trip to the grocery store and picking up your own ready-to-eat meals.

What to Eat

Most of the dining in Branson has a similar theme to the rest of the city: family-friendly. If you don't plan on packing your own picnic while at  Silver Dollar City , take the family to  Molly's Mill  in the park on Main Street, which has been serving a hearty buffet for more than four decades.. Billy Bob's Dairyland earns great reviews for its diner fare, milkshakes and homemade pies, and the  Keeter Center  – located on the College of the Ozarks campus – receives high marks for its delicious, locally sourced menu (many of the ingredients are grown right on campus). When you and your taste buds are ready for something a bit more adventurous, try India Clay Oven – a favorite among recent visitors.

And if you're looking for something a bit more sophisticated, plan a daytrip to  Mount Pleasant Winery  for a light lunch and wine tasting. If you're flying in or out of the  St. Louis  airport, this may be a good first or last stop since the winery is located about 50 miles west of St. Louis. If you're coming from Branson, expect the drive to take you nearly four hours.

Getting Around Branson

The best way to get around Branson is by car since there are no public transportation options that link all of the top attractions with local restaurants and accommodations. There is a free trolley that connects downtown Branson with  Branson Landing , but its limited reach and seasonal hours mean travelers will still need to rely on their own wheels.

The closest airport is Branson Airport (BKG), about 10 miles south of Branson. The airline options are limited, but its proximity to the city is hard to beat. The airport has three different rental car agencies on-site. Traditional taxis, limos, vans and services like Uber and Lyft are also available to get travelers to Branson from the airport. Alternatively, the Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF), is about 52 miles north of Branson. Travelers will find less expensive airfares if they choose to fly into the state's larger airports – Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Lambert-St Louis International Airport (STL) – but the drive to Branson will be about two to three hours longer than it is from Springfield . Though there are no shuttles provided by the Springfield airport to Branson, some accommodations may offer a shuttle; check with your individual hotel to see if it provides transportation.

Your Complete Guide to Visiting Branson Missouri

If you and your family are looking for a fun place to visit, look no further! Let me introduce you to Branson Missouri . Branson is one of the most unique and one-of-a-kind places to visit. It is located in the Ozark Mountains and has more beauty than you have ever seen.

Branson is a town filled with tons of fun things to do! I have visited there many times and have the up and up on the best places to eat, stay, and play.

Ultimate Guide to Branson, Missouri

Fun Places to Play

Titanic branson.

If you love the movie Titanic as much as I do, you will want to definitely visit the Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri.

Branson Missouri travel guide

During our visit, there was a special exhibit dedicated to the eight musicians onboard who famously serenaded the guests until the very last minute of the ship being afloat. They went down playing from what I understood. This was a moving tribute to these eight men, and the knowledgeable staff shared their stories and made them feel real and relatable.

WhiteWater Water Park

If your kids love a good water park, then they will want to check out White Water .

KaPau-slide-frbtm-KC-1024x681-700x465

White Water also hosts a bunch of fun events throughout the summer, like Night Water, Dive-In Movies, and Red, White, and BOOM Fireworks. You can see their special event calendar here.

We had a great time, and loved everything White Water had to offer!

World's Largest Toy Museum

If you want to take a trip down memory lane and take a step back in time, you HAVE to visit The World’s Largest Toy Museum .

Toy-Museum-700x525

I thought that Stephen and I would be excited to visit here, but my teenagers’ excitement for these nostalgic toys and relics really made my day.

Each room and wall is filled to the brim with toys that people all over the world have worked hard to preserve and bring here for the enjoyment of others.

The Butterfly Palace

If your daughter loves butterflies as mine does, you will want to make an extra special trip to the Butterfly Palace .

Kayla-and-her-butterflies-at-Butterfly-palace-in-Branson-522x700

Once you walk inside, you are transported to another place and time — a tropical rain forest filled with frogs, lizards, and beautiful, beautiful butterflies.

Silver Dollar City

If you love amusement parks as my family does, you will not want to miss all that Silver Dollar City offers.

Silver-Dollar-City-700x611

Our trip to Silver Dollar City was so amazing and fun. I love the 1880′s theme that everything is set in. For me, it reminds me a lot of Opryland which we used to have a long time ago, but when the new Opry Mills Mall came in, they took it down. Now — I know that I can have that feeling again by visiting Silver Dollar City.

From rides to crafts and delicious food like Twisted Tater Dogs and everything in between, we explored as much of the park as we could. There are also shows to watch, but because I have teenagers — their first response was — ROLLERCOASTERS!

Hollywood Wax Museum

I love seeing celebrities as much as the next person, so when we took a tour of the Hollywood Wax Museum , I was in heaven.

Hollywood Wax Museum Jennifer

All of the wax figures inside are true to size and lifelike. The face stubble looks SO real and the amazing life likeness will seriously blow you away.

It takes about 30-45 minutes to cruise through looking at all the actors and actresses. I really enjoyed it because some of my favorite movie characters were portrayed through the museum.

Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex

Not only is the Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex a great place to watch a movie on one of the biggest movie screens ever, but there is something for everyone there.

inside the Branson IMAX theater

The cool thing about this particular IMAX screen is that it was designed with you and me in mind and our enjoyment of watching a movie on the big screen.

It has dual 4K laser projection systems that are equipped with a new optical engine and suite of proprietary IMAX technologies capable of projecting an image that fills the entire IMAX screen with maximum resolution and sharpness, unparalleled brightness.

Click here to read about all there is to do in the entertainment complex.

Musical Attractions to See

While in Branson, we had the privilege to check out a couple of the musical attractions while there.

Sights & Sound Theater

Right now, Samson is playing at the Sights & Sounds theater . I love that they make stories from the Bible come alive.

Samson

The theater itself is HUGE! From the moment you pull into the parking lot, everything will make your jaw drop. From the exquisite statues and gardens outside to the high ceilings and beautiful decorations inside, you will feel like you are in another place and time and almost as if you are in New York at a big fancy production.

Dolly Parton's Stampede

Dolly Parton's Stampede is a Must See Branson Show

Dolly Parton’s Stampede in Branson is the most visited Branson show and here’s why. This family-friendly show tells the story of the wild west between the North and the South.

They go through the Indians, the buffalo, and also touch upon the Civil War. Not only that, but it even goes into detail regarding the move to the west through covered wagons, stagecoaches and more. It is definitely a dinner show that is full of amazing special effects!

The best part? There is a four-course meal that is fit for a king. The show offers so many amazing special effects as well as wonderful, talented performances, some of which the audience even takes part in!

Clay Cooper's Country Express

Clay Cooper’s Country Express is a live Branson theatre with a show that is full of entertainment, laughter, and just plain old good music.

travel guide to branson missouri

The name of this Live Branson Show may fool you because it says “country” in the name. While they do perform some of THE BEST country music — they also do tributes to some of my favorite eras and bands — Queen, Boy bands, girl power, today’s top hits and more!

Showboat Branson Belle

Nothing prepared me for the amazing dinner and show we had aboard the Showboat Branson Belle . I want to go back!

Boarding-the-Showboat-Branson-Belle-522x700

Operating for almost twenty years now, the Showboat Branson Belle takes passengers on a two-hour tour of the gorgeous Table Rock Lake– you have to see it to really admire the beauty. Passengers eat dinner while onboard, with meals, prepared fresh in the ship’s galley. There is live entertainment during the meal, followed by a chance to tour the ship and enjoy the views. After stretching your legs, the entertainment resumes with award-winning shows that celebrate our American heritage.

Best Restaurants in Branson

Florentina’s ristorante italiano .

Florentina’s Ristorante Italiano has been around for almost 10 years. It is privately owned and offers a unique experience like no other in Branson, MO. In fact, if you are staying at Stone Castle Hotel and Conference Center , Florentina’s is literally two minutes from the hotel.

Florentina's

They have some of the best food you will eat in Branson — especially those Italian Nachos!

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House is situated on Fall Creek which you can see from the dining room. Our seat was right by the window and made for a spectacular lunch view.

appetizer at fall creek

While this restaurant is known for its steaks and catfish, we were also treated to their special group lunch menu and some homemade cobbler as well.

Where to Stay

Stone castle hotel and conference center.

The thing to note right away about Stone Castle is that is a unique and one-of-a-kind hotel experience at a very affordable price. There are knights and horses placed all throughout the hotel, both inside and outside. I mean, it is a castle, right?

inside the Camelot room at stone castle

The hotel is located within minutes of just about everything which was awesome for us! In fact, if you are hungry, Florentina’s is literally a 2-minute drive or a 7-minute walk from the hotel.

Grand Country Inn

There are many places to stay when you visit Branson, but my favorite was the Grand Country Inn . I loved it because it had EVERYTHING there. Shows, restaurants, shopping, swimming, places to play, and more. It was the perfect resort to stay.

Grand-Country-Inn1-700x524

They offer indoor and outdoor water parks for the kids, 3 different places to eat including real custard ice cream and pizza, 3 different mini-golf courses, a game room, bumper cars, and more.

This hotel is a kid’s dream.

Branson is the perfect place to take your family on vacation, and if you need MORE reasons to visit here, check out my post on 5 Reasons You Should Visit Branson, Missouri.

travel guide to branson missouri

An essential beginner's guide to Branson, Missouri

From shows to show caves, the most iconic experiences in Branson.

  • Featured Trip Guides

Created by Branson - March 28th 2017

B ranson is so jam-packed with incredible things to see and do, a trip to the city could be a bit overwhelming for a first-timer. It has a rich history as a destination for those looking to get away from everyday life and indulge in a little fun. From its first show cave and scenic lakes, to its role in "The Shepherd of the Hills," to shoutouts from "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "60 Minutes," Branson’s reputation as a destination has grown over many years.

There are a lot of decisions to make when visiting, from choosing hotels and shows to finding food and the most exciting attractions. And while it's kinda hard to go wrong with anything on a Branson vacation (depending on your idea of a fun time) there are a few essential and iconic experiences you just can't miss. If you're looking to plan a trip through the very best of Branson, this is the guide for you.

Marvel Cave at Silver Dollar City

One of the first tourist attractions to open in the Ozarks was what is now known as Marvel Cave. It's one of the largest caves in the whole state, and the cave's Cathedral Room is one of the largest cavern openings on the continent. The Osage Indians and early Spanish settlers likely discovered it and were the first to explore it, but the first recorded expedition was in 1869. Legend has it that the Bald Knobbers, an early vigilante group, would throw their enemies off Roark Mountain and into the cave. For awhile, many hoped that marble or lead ore could be mined from it, but no valuable minerals were ever found inside. The cave has proved to be far from useless, though; it's actually been very popular as a show cave. William Lynch bought it in 1889 and opened it to the public. In 1950, it was sold again, this time to Hugo Herschend, who added a lot of modern updates to the cave, and later built a theme park, Silver Dollar City, on top. Today, visitors to Silver Dollar City can tour the famed attraction; ramps and stairs wind 500 feet below ground, and a cable train brings tourists half a mile up back to the surface!

1 Billy Gail's Cafe

The log cabin/gas station-turned-breakfast/lunch eatery that is Billy Gail's is an iconic stop in Branson. Homestyle, country cafes are part of the Branson experience, and this one, hidden a bit off the main strip of Route 76, is a local favorite. The whole place is crammed with rustic antiques (think bird houses and rocking chairs), most of which are for sale. Red-checkered tablecloths and mismatched vintage mugs set the scene for a big, home-cooked meal. Grits, massive hubcap pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and other Southern staples are all prepared with love... and served in ginormous portions. Come hungry, bring cash, and be prepared for a bit of a wait that will be worth every minute!

Titanic Museum Branson

Branson, MO

Branson has a touch of kitsch, too... just enough to keep things interesting. One of the more offbeat places to visit is Branson's Titanic Museum. The self-proclaimed “world’s largest museum attraction" is inspired by the famously tragic tale of the doomed ocean liner, once called "unsinkable,” this replica of the boat hitting the iceberg is also an interactive museum that lets you experience being on the ship... to some extent, at least. You get a boarding pass with a real passenger or crewmember's name, and as you tour the "ship,” from a first class stateroom to the engine room, you can talk to costumed interpreters and try to guess your fate. The "Sinking Room" features slanted decks and the chance to feel how cold the water was the night the ship went down, which is a sobering experience. At the end, right before the gift shop, you get to learn what happened to your assigned person. It's a pretty unforgettable attraction, and one that will add some edutainment to your Branson adventure.

3 The Haygoods

Branson is famous for its shows. The city's main strip, Route 76, is lined with theaters that host nightly performances by musical acts. Branson's longest running first-generation show is The Haygoods. This family act (featuring 5 brothers and 1 sister) has the Haygood siblings playing, singing, and dancing in harmony. It all started when the oldest, Timothy, saw a violinist on Sesame Street as a child and asked to learn the instrument. Eventually, he worked his way through fiddle lessons from a famed Texas fiddler, and his brothers and sister started to learn various instruments as well. Now, they've been performing in Branson for over 20 years, and regularly sell out shows each season. They're all accomplished performers who even write their own songs, and each show is a guaranteed good time.

4 Table Rock State Park

Branson is also naturally a stunning place. Table Rock State Park is a great example of Branson's outdoorsy side. It encompasses Table Rock Lake and the surrounding woodlands, and it's a favorite of those looking to spend a day on the water. Boats are available for rent at the marina, but fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, and even scuba diving are also popular here. The park has an awesome campground for those looking to spend the night in nature. If you don't have an RV or a tent, there is a yurt you can rent: a round canvas structure that's already set up, so all you have to do is bring your gear and make yourself at home! Whether you just visit for a day or camp out and make this your home base, it's worth it to experience the natural beauty that abounds here.

165 Scenic Overlook

Hollister, MO

For a quick photo op, head to the 165 Scenic Overlook. It's just off highway 165 and offers a panoramic view of Lake Taneycomo and the rolling, forested hills of the Ozarks. It's an easy stop to make, right in between the 76 Strip and Table Rock Dam, and it offers an absolutely gorgeous view.

6 Big Cedar Lodge

Located in remote Big Cedar Hollow, Big Cedar Lodge is an incredible resort. The 800-acre property feature a marina, riding stables, an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, and tons of walking paths. You'll find several restaurants on site as well. The rooms range from cottage and private log cabin rentals to luxury suites and value rooms, so there's something for every traveler here. The lodge also has a stellar spa and there are golf courses nearby, so you can get the perfect luxury resort experience.

7 Top of the Rock

Top of the Rock is part of Big Cedar Lodge. Meant to preserve and enhance the beauty and fun of the Ozarks, there's a lot to experience here. Three restaurants, a wine cellar, golf courses, and a Civil War cabin for rent (it has not one, but two grand porches and an outdoor shower offering lake views), are a few of the things to find here. Top of the Rock is also home to the Lost Canyon Cave Nature Trail, a nature park featuring waterfalls, covered bridges, and soaring rock formations. There's even a cave with a bar inside! The attraction includes the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum, inspired by Chicago's Field Museum and featuring exhibits and artifacts from the Ozarks’ past. Things like woolly mammoth and saber tooth cat bones are on display!

8 Branson Landing

Branson is also a great destination for shopping. Hundreds of stores and restaurants can be found at Branson Landing, on the banks of Lake Taneycomo. Hop on The Paddlewheel, a riverboat-themed eatery that serves up great views and food, along with fun drinks. Live music, a farmer's market, and other fun events happen occasionally, so it's always a lively spot to visit. It's also home to an incredible fountain that puts on hourly shows that combine fire, water, and music between noon and 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM. It's an incredibly well-choreographed show, and the song changes each hour, so stop by to see it set to everything from the Star Spangled Banner to Kung Fu Fighting.

Click to discover a great deal!

9 The Branson Hotel

If you're looking for quiet accommodations, check into the Branson Hotel. Built in 1903, it's been well maintained, but still retains oodles of vintage charm. The rooms are impeccably furnished and have just the right amount of antique touches. Plus, right off the lush, peaceful garden, you'll find a cafe/wine bar that makes for a perfect spot to wind down a day exploring Branson. The central location is another added bonus to a stay here!

10 Dolly Parton's Stampede

Another popular show is Dolly Parton's Stampede. The dinner theater performance combines comedy, musical numbers, and some incredible trick horseback riding into a fun and exciting Americana show. You get to enjoy a four-course feast featuring rotisserie chicken, barbecued pork, biscuits, corn, dessert, and more while you're entertained by the performance. It's one of the most popular dinner theater shows in town, so stop by and see why it's so well-loved!

11 The Track Family Fun Parks

Branson's Track Family Fun Park has epic go-karts, laser tag, mini golf, and more, but it's also home to one of the newest attractions in Branson: the Ferris Wheel. Chicago's iconic Navy Pier Ferris wheel was packed up and moved to the Track Family Fun Park, and now offers riders views of Branson and the Ozarks. The 150-foot-tall wheel's 40 gondolas can hold six passengers apiece, and as if that's not impressive enough, it's covered in thousands of LED lights for several nightly music and light spectaculars!

Presleys' Country Jubilee

Another iconic show is Presleys' Country Jubilee. The Presleys were one of the first to bring live music theaters to Branson, and even though their show has changed a bit since 1967, it still combines gospel, bluegrass, country and comedy into one funny and uplifting show that everyone can enjoy.

Branson is a special place that's made its quaint, country personality a huge draw. Whether you're there for the glitzy shows or the natural beauty, there's no denying that the city's distinctive personality has made it a popular destination for those seeking a taste of the good old days... with a modern flair, of course!

There’s nowhere like Branson, Missouri. With breathtaking natural beauty, family-friendly shows, exhilarating outdoor activities, world-class golf courses, delicious dining, fun festivals and thrilling attractions, there’s just no shortage of fun.

Branson is best known for its live performances, with more than 100 different shows in venues ranging from intimate theaters to a grand 4,000-seat palace. But if you spend all your time indoors you'll be missing out on the delightful natural setting that makes the Tri-Lakes area so appealing. The blue lakes and green hills of Ozarks country are an open invitation to take a walk along a grassy riverbank, hike a dogwood-lined trail, nose a boat through a secluded inlet or cast a line for trout in a cool, rushing stream.

You'll have no trouble filling up a day: In addition to loads of shows and all kinds of fun things to do outdoors, Branson has theme parks, craft villages, all-you-can-eat buffets and special events galore. You can watch woodcarvers, basket weavers and folk artists at work. You can shop at factory outlets or country stores. You can ride a sightseeing train. But what keeps lots of people coming back is the genuine hospitality, which shines through in every warm welcome.

Getting There

By Car Branson receives an estimated 8 million visitors annually, and more than 90 percent of them drive. This can present a challenge to the existing road network, which was never meant to accommodate the number of vehicles that arrive throughout the year. However, more than $200 million spent on new highway construction has helped lessen the bottleneck conditions that can occur in summer, the busiest season.

I-44 funnels traffic to Springfield from St. Louis and points east, and from Tulsa, Oklahoma City and points west. South from Springfield or north from Little Rock and Harrison, Ark., the main approach is via US 65, which is four lanes from Springfield south to Branson, facilitating access into town. US 65 has been widened to four lanes from Hollister, just across Lake Taneycomo from Branson, south to the Arkansas border.

More locally, the Ozark Mountain Highroad (SR 465) runs east-west for 8 miles between US 65 and SR 76 just west of the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead, offering a relaxed and less-traveled route to Table Rock Lake, the Silver Dollar City theme park and other attractions on the west side of town. North-south SR 13, which branches off SR 76, and east-west SR 86, which branches off US 65 south of Hollister, are other easy ways to get to Table Rock Lake. For a delightfully scenic day trip from Branson to popular Eureka Springs, Ark., take US 65 south to US 62, then US 62 west.

Getting Around

Street System Historic downtown Branson, just east of US 65 via US 65 Business Route/Veterans Boulevard, forms a small, compact grid of streets running about six blocks north-south and east-west. East-west Main Street, the eastward extension of SR 76, and north-south Commercial Street are the main thoroughfares. Main Street runs into Branson Landing Boulevard, which fronts Branson Landing and beyond, Lake Taneycomo.

Branson's main drag is, of course, SR 76W, sometimes known as Country Music Boulevard and widely named simply “the Strip.” The 5-mile stretch within the city limits, a two-lane highway with a center turning lane, is the heart of many Branson activities, winding past a seemingly endless procession of music theaters, attractions, shopping centers, hotels, motels and restaurants.

The other major roads are SR 248/Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, Gretna Road and Green Mountain Drive. SR 248 branches west off US 65, providing a northerly route that eventually intersects with SR 265 west of SR 76 via Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. Several popular theaters and attractions are along this stretch. Gretna Road, between SR 248 and SR 76, is lined with shopping complexes. Green Mountain Drive runs south of and parallel to SR 76.

Traffic is frequently congested along much of SR 76, particularly so before and after evening performances at the theaters, and major intersections—for example, SR 76 and Gretna Road—can become gridlocked at times. But fortunately, driving the Strip is a choice and not a necessity, thanks to three east-west color-coded “relief routes” that can be time-saving options.

Two routes are north of SR 76, and one is south. The Red Route is SR 248 from US 65 west to Shepherd of the Hills Expressway and Shepherd of the Hills Expressway west to SR 265. The Blue Route is Roark Valley Road from SR 76 to Gretna Road and Gretna Road back to SR 76. The Yellow Route is Fall Creek Road to Wildwood Drive, Wildwood Drive to Green Mountain Drive and Green Mountain Drive to SR 76.

Red, blue and yellow route signs are posted regularly along the respective roads. The Yellow Route is the most crowded of the three, so consider using the Blue or Red routes instead. Once you become familiar with these routes, however, getting around Branson is pretty much a snap. You can pick up a Time-Saver road map (created by the Branson/Lakes Area Convention and Visitors Bureau) showing these routes as well as the location of many theaters and attractions from just about any local hotel or restaurant.

Parking Finding a place to park in Branson is rarely a problem. Almost all of the theaters have their own large lots, and parking for most shopping centers and restaurants is plentiful. Although you may have to hunt for a space downtown on weekends, there are two parking garages and four lots serving the historic downtown and Branson Landing areas.

Things to Do in Branson

Imagine a miniature Vegas without the gambling or showgirls, a G-rated destination where families outnumber swinging singles 10-to-1. Cue up the banjo-picking ambiance of the Grand Ole Opry, throw in mini-golf, assorted wax museums and theme parks, and you have Branson, Missouri, as unpretentious a place as any you'll find in the good ol' U.S.A. Now a century removed from its small-town roots as a general store/post office, Branson has mushroomed into a tourist-filled, flag-waving, live-entertainment center in the heart of Arkansas's Ozark Plateau.

Fasten your seatbelts: Branson is an amusement-park-lover's paradise. Silver Dollar City is the thrill junkie's mecca, replete with a hair-raising roller coaster, the PowderKeg , and a barnyard full of rides. Break the summer heat with a drenching on the slides, sprays, geysers and wave pools at White Water water park.

Nightlife and Entertainment

Entertainment here is strictly mainstream and emphatically red-white-and-blue. Think light dinner theater, not Wagnerian opera. Expect toe-tapping bluegrass, gospel sing-a-longs, and Neil Diamond and John Denver tributes. At Presley's Country Jubilee , Branson's "First Family of Entertainment" pulls out all the stops with country-music classics and cornball gags.

Restaurants and Dining

Prepare for a real schooling in quintessential down-home Southern cuisine. Loosen your belt -- the breaded and fried abound. The Branson Cafe is a greet-the-regulars-by-their-first name place -- and one bite of the fried chicken will put you in a swoon. The breakfast at McFarlain's Family Restaurant is monumental -- scrambled eggs with bacon, sausage and cheese topped with an avalanche of gravy. The down-homes sides include supple cornbread and tangy fried green tomatoes.

Take in the limestone cliffs, lush forests and tumbling meadows of the Ozark region. Unearth your inner frontiersman: Dig a coonskin cap out of your closet and take a canoe trip down the James River . Trout and bass abound in nearby waters: Hire a guide to take you to Bull Shoals, Table Rock and Taneycomo lakes for an afternoon of meditative fishing.

N estled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, Branson, Missouri is a popular destination for outdoor recreation and family adventures alike. While the Ozarks are a bustling vacation destination, you’ll still find hidden gems galore in this part of Missouri .

From offbeat attractions like the World’s Largest Toy Museum to unexpected artisans at the iconic amusement park Silver Dollar City , there are lots of ways to get off the beaten path in Branson. Whether you’re a seasoned visitor and want to find somewhere new to explore or headed to the Ozarks for the first time, this area has countless places to discover.

When you’re planning your Ozark adventure, be sure to check out these 10 unique things to do in Branson, Missouri.

Unique Things to Do in Branson, Missouri

Ride the copperhead mountain coaster.

If you’re looking for a unique and memorable experience, look no further than the  Copperhead Mountain Coaster . This fun attraction is Branson’s longest downhill alpine coaster, taking you on a winding, wonderful ride through the Ozark Mountains.

The best part? You’re fully in control of your own speed as you zip through the wooded, mountain landscape.

At first, I was a little apprehensive about this experience. I’m not a huge rollercoaster fan and wasn’t sure what to expect. But the guides and signage clearly explained how the coaster cars and brakes work before you climb aboard.

In all, the ride along the 3,350-ft-long coaster took under 10 minutes from start to finish, and was a highlight of our time in Branson.

Buy Tickets

The Copperhead Mountain Coaster is open year-round, and offers both daytime and evening rides. The coaster is a part of the larger Shepherd of the Hills entertainment complex, and can be found at the base of Inspiration Tower.

Copperhead Mountain Coaster, Shepherd of the Hill, 5586 W. 76 Country Boulevard in Branson, Missouri

Explore branson on a pink jeep tour.

Looking for a unique way to see a lot of Branson in a short amount of time? Book an experience with Pink Jeep Tours !

This adventure tour company has become known across the country for their iconic pink jeeps. While riding in style is a definite perk, these experiences are the perfect way to see the city in a new way.

We hopped aboard their  Best of Branson Sunset Tour for a few hours of sightseeing and beautiful scenic views. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about Branson’s many attractions and shared some great tips for the rest of our trip.

Pro Tip : Book your Pink Jeep Tour early in your trip to Branson to help give you a lay of the land. That way, you’ll have a better idea of where you want to come back to explore later in the trip.

Get a New Perspective at Beyond the Lens! Techno-Tainment

If you’re looking for a fun, interactive experience for all ages, head to Branson’s Beyond the Lens! Techno-Tainment .

Experience all sorts of virtual reality installations inspired by pop culture icons and phenomenon. From an entire room dedicated to Bigfoot to an alien-themed ball pit, you’ll find all sorts of offbeat fun at this attraction.

This is a great stop for travelers of all ages with tons of games like Skee-Ball as well as retro gaming consoles and more. One of my favorite parts of this unique spot was the plethora of offbeat photo ops.

Beyond the Lens! Techno-Tainment, 3115 W. 76 Country Boulevard in Branson, Missouri

Wander the world’s largest toy museum.

Of all the places we visited during our time in Branson, one of my favorites was the  World’s Largest Toy Museum . It’s no secret that I love a  world’s largest thing and this museum complex proved no different.

With more than 1 million toys displayed across a six-building complex, this whimsical museum is an entertaining trip down memory lane. Despite having so many items on view, the museum is incredibly organized.

As you wander, you’ll discover toys organized by type, brand and theme. From Disney and Barbie to antique dolls and hundreds of stuffed teddy bears, there’s something delightful to discover around every corner of this labyrinth of toys.

While the collection itself is impressive, one of my favorite rooms featured installations of model trains with beautiful colorful murals painted all around.

Especially if you love classic toys or a retro candy, be sure to stop by the World’s Largest Toy Museum gift shop to pick up a fun souvenir or two.

World’s Largest Toy Museum, 3609 W. 76 Country Boulevard in Branson, Missouri

Snap your photo with a roadside attraction.

It’s no secret that I love a wacky roadside attraction . Luckily for me (and you), Branson is full of offbeat spots! Not only can you find the  World’s Largest Rooster outside a restaurant along Branson’s main strip. But you’ll also discover a number of other giant oddities inside other attractions.

At Ripley’s Odditorium  you’ll find the  World’s Largest Roll of Toilet Paper  as well as the  World’s Largest Ball of String .

There are lots of things to do in Branson. But one of the area’s biggest draws is the amount of live music and dazzling theater you’ll find here. Whether you’re looking for a music review full of talented performers or a full-blown Western dinner theater, there’s sure to be something in Branson for you.

One of Branson’s most popular musical shows is  The Haygoods . This musical family has been performing in Branson for more than 25 years now, but their show is still as captivating as ever. With arrangements spanning from the 1960s to today, these talented siblings perform playing 20 different musical instruments.

If dinner and a show is more your speed, there’s no better place than  Dolly Parton’s Stampede . You’ll be dazzled by the world-class riding and showmanship of the Stampede performers, all while digging into a four-course feast. This experience definitely makes for a memorable evening, and would be an especially fun one while traveling with kids.

Be Awed by Ripley’s Odditorium

At Ripley’s Odditorium the enigmatic and eccentric converge to create one of Branson’s most eccentric attractions. Not only will you find oversized oddities (like the  World’s Largest Roll of Toilet Paper ) at this fanciful museum. But you’ll also discover an astonishing collection of strange artifacts, perplexing illusions, and engaging exhibits.

One of my favorite collections on display when we visited was the work of an artist who carves microscopic sculptures out of pencil graphite.

From optical illusions to historical oddities, there are no shortage of unusual things to see at this Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! property. Whether you’re a seasoned explorer of the eccentric or just someone looking to add a little quirk to your Ozark adventure, Ripley’s Odditorium is a must-visit destination that will remind you that the world is a much stranger place than you ever imagined.

Ripley’s Odditorium, 3326 76 Country Boulevard in Branson, Missouri

Get your thrills at silver dollar city.

While I’m normally not an amusement park person,  Silver Dollar City truly delighted me. In addition to record-breaking roller coasters, this 1880s theme park is also known as the “Home of the American Craftsman.” In fact, in addition to the park’s 40 exciting rides, Silver Dollar City is home to 100 resident craftsmen.

Similar to the rest of Branson, Silver Dollar City has no shortage of theatrical shows and live entertainment.

We started our morning off with a Frontier Follies show at the  Silver Dollar Saloon . Not only is this the longest-running show at the park, but it’s also a family favorite.

Unfortunately, we visited on a pretty rainy day so the park’s rides were closed and tours of Marvel Cave had been postponed. But even so there was plenty to explore at this Midwest amusement park.

We sampled a variety of snacks, got some steps in and appreciated the beautiful work of some of the park’s resident artisans.

Silver Dollar City, 399 Silver Dollar City Parkway in Branson, Missouri

Pick up a souvenir at dick’s 5 & 10.

If you only have time to visit one shop in Branson, make it Dick’s 5 & 10 . This retro retailer combines all the best parts of a classic general store with any modern gift you could need.

From classic candy and unique soda flavors to home decor and Branson-themed souvenirs, there’s something for everyone at this unique Main Street shop. Even if you’re just interested in browsing, a wander through Dick’s 5 & 10 is an experience onto itself.

Dick’s 5 & 10, 103 W. Main Street in Branson, Missouri

Shop for antiques.

While there are plenty of new things to do in Branson, some of my favorite pieces of our Ozark adventure were exploring the area’s history. And what better way to dive into some fun history than with a little antique shopping?

Thankfully, Branson has no shortage of cute boutiques and bustling flea markets where you can indulge in a little retail therapy. A few favorites included:

  • 417 Vintage Market (114 N. Commercial Street in Branson): If you’re looking for a thoughtfully curated collection of vintage and home decor, this is the place for you. Don’t miss  Commercial Street Coffee  located in the back of this historic three-story building!
  • Apple Tree Antique Mall (1830 W. 76 Country Boulevard in Branson): With more than 400 vendor booths, this antique mall sells a treasure trove of items.
  • CreekSide Antiques  (125 St. James Street in Hollister): Lovers of vintage glasses and barware will be delighted by the treasures to be found at CreekSide Antiques. With rooms of beautiful glass organized by color and type, this shop is a delight to explore.

Where to Stay in Branson, Missouri

Hilton branson convention center.

If you’re looking for a great place to stay within walking distance to some of the downtown Branson’s most popular spots, look no further than the  Hilton Branson Convention Center . Not only is this property conveniently located, but it also has top-notch amenities and plenty of space to spread out during your stay.

See the 2024 Solar Eclipse’s Path of Totality

A total solar eclipse is expected to pass through the United States on April 8, 2024, giving stargazers across the country the opportunity to view the celestial phenomenon in which the sun is completely covered by the moon.

The eclipse will enter the U.S. in Texas and exit in Maine. It is the last time a total solar eclipse will be visible in the contiguous United States until 2044.

Here's what to know about the path of the eclipse and where you can see it.

Read More : How Animals and Nature React to an Eclipse

Where can you see the total solar eclipse?

The eclipse will cross through North America, passing over parts of Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The eclipse will enter the United States in Texas, and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse.

Much of the eclipse's visibility depends on the weather. A cloudy day could prevent visitors from seeing the spectacle altogether.
