American-Canadian Tour Releases 2023 Schedule
(Press Release from American-Canadian Tour)
American-Canadian Tour officials are pleased to announce the 2023 Schedule of Events for the Vermont-based touring series. Highlighted by a continued commitment to partner tracks in Quebec, renewed energy into longstanding iconic events across the Northeast and the return to Connecticut’s Stafford Speedway after a 38-year hiatus, the 2023 American-Canadian Tour schedule promises to be one of the most varied and exciting in recent memory.
For the first time since 2021, the American-Canadian Tour will once again head south to start the year with a pair of non-point exhibition events at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina on Friday, March 17th and Saturday, March 18th. The first of at least six doubleheaders with the Maine-based Pro All Stars Series (PASS), the twin 125s for the ACT Tour will start the season off in style for those Northeast teams itching to start 2023 early at one of America’s most iconic short track venues.
Kickstarting the points-counting 45th season for the American-Canadian Tour will be the $5,000-to-win Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 15th. The season opener for New England stock car racing will once again feature the ACT and PASS partnership on the Magic Mile along with several other divisions. More details, including a full division line-up, will be announced in the coming months.
As released two weeks ago, the Stars and Cars of the American-Canadian Tour will return to Stafford Speedway after a 38-year absence on Saturday, April 29th as part of the 51st NAPA Spring Sizzler weekend. Social media has been buzzing about the event with competition expected to be packed to the brim with teams from across the Northeast looking to get their first taste of the iconic Connecticut half-mile during one of their marquee weekends.
The month of May brings the annual lid-lifter for the famed Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont. The home of the ACT Tour is once again featured prominently on the 2023 calendar with a pair of iconic Sunday events beginning with the 25th Community Bank 150 on May 7th and followed by the $5,000-to-win 45th Labor Day Classic presented by New England Federal Credit Union on September 4th. The 61st Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank on the weekend of September 30th and October 1st is a non-points affair for the touring series but none-the-less circled on many team’s calendars after a stellar 60th anniversary event in 2022.
In an exciting addition, the famed Lee USA Speedway returns to the American-Canadian Tour schedule for the first time in two seasons. The 3/8-mile Southern New Hampshire oval regains its once annual spot on the schedule with the early season New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 on Sunday, May 21st. A favorite of many teams, officials expect the return to Lee USA Speedway to be one of the most hotly contested events in the early part of the 2023 season.
The first weekend in June brings an exciting change for the 48th running of the famed Spring Green as it moves from White Mountain Motorsports Park to Massachusetts’ Seekonk Speedway. The Cement Palace will serve as the sixth different facility to host the annual American-Canadian Tour special with a host of Southern New England’s finest expected to make a run at one of Northern New England’s marquee events on Saturday, June 3rd.
After a two-week break, the American-Canadian Tour heads to Vallee-Jonction, Quebec’s Autodrome Chaudiere for the Claude Leclerc 150 on Saturday, June 24th. The $5,000-to-win event became a staple prior to the COVID 19 pandemic closures and has since regained its spot as one of the most thrilling races on the summer schedule at the unique Canadian bullring.
Another two-week break brings the ACT faithful back to their Maine home at Oxford Plains Speedway for a special doubleheader with the Pro All Stars Series on Sunday, July 9th. The American-Canadian Tour will also return to headline the annual Saturday ‘Night Before the 250’ festivities on August 26th as part of the big 50th annual Oxford 250 weekend!
ACT jumps north of the border once again on Saturday, July 22nd for the CAN-AM 200 at Autodrome Montmagny. The return to Montmagny in 2022 was one of the biggest events of the season with former NASCAR Truck Series standout Raphael Lessard earning his first ever ACT Tour victory. The $10,000-to-win affair is certain to match, and perhaps even out-do, it’s 2022 version as more American teams are expected to make the trek to the Canadian speed-plant for a true international battle.
August brings the American-Canadian Tour teams their longest race of the season in the 6th annual Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250 at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, August 5th. The $10,000-to-win event has become an ACT crown jewel with over 40 teams attempting to qualify in 2022 and exciting finishes becoming the norm for the extra-distance event. As the Granite State home of ACT Tour racing, White Mountain will also host the $5,000-to-win 45th edition of the Fall Foliage 200 on Saturday, September 16th alongside the PASS Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds and the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers.
After a successful return in 2022, the American-Canadian Tour will once again wrap up the year at Connecticut’s New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday, October 21st. One of the best match-ups of the season between the ACT Touring stars and the local Speedbowl heroes, officials expect the season finale to be quite an exclamation point on the year.
“We’re very happy and excited about our 2023 plans,” said ACT managing partner Cris Michaud. “We feel we’ve laid the groundwork for one of the most exciting seasons to date and I’m excited to see what year forty-five brings.”
With the announcement of the 2023 schedule, team paperwork and forms have also been released and are available online at the ACT website. The Full Season Entry Form will soon be available from the Barre, Vermont offices as will individual track schedules for Vermont’s Thunder Road International Speedbowl, New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park and Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway, the three New England speedways sanctioned by the American-Canadian Tour.

Shawn, no Thompson????? Makes no sense seeing ACT runs their shows.
After thinking about it, I’m not really surprised that Thompson fell off the schedule. The 2021 and 2022 races were among the lowest car counts of the ACT season — 24 and 21, or something like that, after having mid-30s some of the previous years. It seems like once ACT was added to the Haunted Hundred event at Seekonk (now Waterford), some of the teams that would have gone to Thompson went there instead. Plus last year you had the Fall Brawl at Riverside (NH) the same day as the Thompson ACT race, and the Milk Bowl the weekend before. Maybe there just wasn’t enough room on the calendar for so many big end-of-season Late Model events. (Though I’m sure if one of the other scheduled ACT events gets cancelled for whatever reason, Thompson is near the top of the list for potential replacements.)
There were plenty of cars at the World Series, I thought it was a pretty great race in person. I hope they end up being at the World Series again.

Série act returns in 2023 with 10-race all-quebec schedule.
After a five-year absence, Vermont’s ACT has partnered with two veteran Quebec promoters to relaunch the Série ACT, a Quebec-centric Late Model affiliate.
- December 4, 2022
The Canadian component of the American-Canadian Tour’s familiar moniker will carry even more significance in 2023.
Tour officials confirmed through a press release on Saturday that, in cooperation with promotional partners in Quebec, the Série ACT will return to competition next year with a ten-race points championship.
After two seasons in which the Tour’s name served as a vestigial reminder of days past, next year will more closely resemble the ACT of old.
Upon its founding in 1986, the American-Canadian Tour’s name represented not only the plethora of competitive race tracks in Ontario, Quebec and the Canadian Maritimes, but the dedicated racers like Jean-Paul Cabana, Claude Leclerc and Roger Laperle who raced and won on both sides of the international border. The relative ease of crossing between the United States and Canada, coupled with solid sponsorship and healthy prize funds, kept the cross-border dynamic healthy through the end of ACT’s Pro Stock era in 1995.
Claude Leclerc has raced with ACT in some capacity since 1979. The 82-year-old veteran will likely relish the opportunity to race closer to home. (STS/Jeff Brown)
Cross-border competition was less integral in the late 1990s, when ACT’s more cost-conscious Late Models took over as the sanction’s flagship platform. The Late Model platform still gained popularity north of the border, particularly in Quebec. In 2007, ACT assumed control of the two-year-old Série Nationale Castrol LMS Quebec, rechristening it the Série ACT and operating the touring organization for several years as an affiliate of the Vermont-based ACT Tour. While the Série ACT raced almost exclusively in Quebec, the ACT Tour sprinkled in races at Quebec tracks like Sanair Super Speedway in St.-Pie and Autodrome Chaudière in Vallée-Jonction.
Following the 2017 season, the ACT Tour and Série ACT announced harmonized schedules that would allow drivers to run nearly the entire slate of races under both sanctions. But in early 2018, ACT dissolved its partnership with the Série ACT. Former Série ACT director Marc Patrick Roy quickly reorganized to charter the Championnat de Stock-Car Canadien, with an eight-race schedule split between Autodrome Montmagny, Autodrome St.-Eustache, and the Grand Prix Trois-Rivières road course. The CSCC ran one season before its own dissolution.
The Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was the first ACT Tour race in the United States since 2020 for many Quebec competitors, including CAN-AM 200 winner Raphael Lessard. (STS/Jeff Brown)
ACT maintained its relationship with Autodrome Chaudière, with the track hosting the cross-border Bacon Bowl 200 in 2018 and 2019 as well as the ACT Tour’s Claude Leclerc 150, named in honor of the series’ still-active “Ironman.”
The COVID-19 pandemic, though, dealt a punishing blow to ACT’s Canadian connections. Quebec’s strict mitigation policies effectively shuttered stock car racing in the province for the 2020 season. Even if the tracks had been open, the closure of the international border to all but essential travel kept racers from making the trip either way.
Pandemic restrictions loosened in 2021, allowing racing to resume locally. But it was not until 2022 that ACT was able to schedule two Tour points races in Quebec, one at Chaudière and the other at Montmagny. Even then, lingering requirements for cross-border travelers limited how many American racers made the trips north, and Quebec racers Jonathan Bouvrette and Raphael Lessard won the two features.
Bouvrette was among a handful of Canadians who committed to the full ACT Tour schedule, but Alexendre “Fireball” Tardif was the only one to complete the feat, finishing second in points to DJ Shaw and scoring top rookie honors.
Chaudière promoter Andre Poulin and Montmagny director Howard Romanado will spearhead the new incarnation of the Série ACT, with the ten-race schedule equally divided between the two tracks. Chaudiere will open the schedule on May 13 and Montmagny will host the season finale on September 23, with the tracks alternating features back and forth through the summer. The ACT Tour’s two Canadian features, June’s Claude Leclerc 150 at Chaudiere and July’s CAN-AM 200 at Montmagny, are not part of the Série ACT points championship.
Alexendre Tardif was the sole Canadian challenger to run the full ACT Tour schedule in 2022, finishing second in points to DJ Shaw. (STS/Jeff Brown)
The selection of the two tracks may seem limiting, but there are few other viable options. Autodrome St.-Eustache, where Romanado previously served as director, closed after the 2019 season to make way for an easement for public utility company Hydro-Québec. Circuit Riverside Speedway Ste.-Croix, once an ACT staple, has shifted its focus away from oval racing, leaning into sports car events and drift shows. Autodrome St.-Félicien, a third-mile D-oval three hours north of Quebec City, remains active but has not hosted ACT since 2015. Sanair, home of veteran Jean-Paul Cabana’s performance driving school, has not been a spectator facility in years.
That leaves Chaudière and Montmagny, both with long-tenured ties to the ACT Tour and the Série ACT.
Saturday’s schedule release, about two weeks after the announcement of the ACT Tour itinerary, does have one direct conflict, with the June 3 Montmagny feature scheduled against the Tour’s Spring Green at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts. With the Tour’s press release touting the option for drivers to run ACT Tour races as well, time will tell if an adjustment is made to avoid forcing teams to choose a championship.
That said, Quebec’s base of Late Model drivers remains strong despite the pandemic’s impact. Thirty racers took the green flag in August’s CAN-AM 200 at Montmagny, with only three hailing from the United States. Even half of those competitors committing to a full Série ACT program would amount to a competitive championship battle.
With ACT coming off a banner year, and with Canadian competitors still solidly involved in the series in the States, doubling down on ACT’s Canadian ties is a strong move toward not only reinforcing ACT’s Canadian base, but welcoming more competitors back to cross-border touring competition.

The 2023 American-Canadian Tour schedule promises to be one of the most varied and exciting in recent memory.
Late Models
Barre, VT — American-Canadian Tour officials are pleased to announce the 2023 Schedule of Events for the Vermont-based touring series.
The 61st Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank on the weekend of September 30th and October 1st is a non-points affair for the touring series but none-the-less circled on many team's calendars after a stellar 60th anniversary event in 2022.
