Rapper Lil Wayne to perform at The Van Buren in May

PHOENIX — Rap music icon Lil Wayne is headed to the Valley this spring.

He will be performing at The Van Buren on Tuesday, May 9, as part of his “Tha Carter Tour." It's not clear whether there will be any special guests with the rapper.

Tickets go on sale starting Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. local time on Lil Wayne's official website.

Lil Wayne announces 2023 North American tour dates

The “welcome to tha carter tour” begins in april..

Lil Wayne has revealed a run of North American tour dates beginning in spring 2023. The “Welcome To Tha Carter Tour Presented by Young Money, Rolling Loud, and Live Nation” comprises 28 dates across the United States and Canada, beginning April 4 in Minneapolis and finishing May 13 in Los Angeles. Tickets go on sale via Lil Wayne’s website on February 3 at 10 a.m. local time.

This Sunday, Lil Wayne will receive a Global Impact Award at the 2023 Grammys celebrating his “personal and professional achievements in the music industry,” along with Missy Elliott , Dr. Dre , and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone. In August 2022, he appeared in Toronto for the Young Money Reunion Show with Drake , Nicki Minaj , and other artists from his record label.

Lil Wayne Announces Spring 2023 North American Tour Dates

Lil Wayne has announced a spring tour that’ll take him through much of the United States, plus a stop in Toronto. His Welcome to Tha Carter Tour starts in Minneapolis at the beginning of April, wrapping up in Los Angeles in mid-May. Find all of the dates below.

After releasing his 13th album, Funeral , in 2020 and receiving a presidential pardon , Lil Wayne joined Rich the Kid for the collaborative release Trust Fund Babies in 2021. He’s made several other guest appearances on tracks by Latto and Run the Jewels , teaming up for more new material with Roddy Ricch , Polo G , and Calboy , too. He’s slated to receive a Global Impact Award from the Black Music Collective alongside Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone, at the 2023 Grammys .

Lil Wayne Plots ‘Welcome to Tha Carter’ 2023 Tour Dates

Lil Wayne will hit the road this spring with a 28-city North American tour dubbed the “Welcome to Tha Carter Tour.”

The trek will launch April 4 at the Fillmore in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Wayne will criss-cross the U.S. and Canada over the next month-and-a-half. The run will finally wrap May 13 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale this Friday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. local time on Ticketmaster.com . Full information is available on Lil Wayne’s website . 

The Welcome to Tha Carter Tour announcement comes as Lil Wayne prepares to receive a special honor from the Recording Academy’s annual Black Music collective event, taking place Feb. 2, three days before the 2023 Grammys. Wayne — a four-time Grammy winner — will receive the Global Impact Award, along with two of his celebrated peers, Missy Elliott and Dr. Dre.

Award-winning, multi-platinum rap icon Lil Wayne kicked off his sold-out Welcome to Tha Carter Tour Presented by Young Money, Rolling Loud, and Live Nation at The Fillmore in Minneapolis. The legendary rapper played major hits like “A Milli”, “Fireman”, and “I’m Me” in addition to newer songs like “God Did.”

Up next, Lil Wayne will bring the Welcome to Tha Carter Tour to Baxter Arena in Omaha on Friday, April 7 and will continue making stops in Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, and more, before concluding at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 13. The music mogul is also set to perform at Pharell’s Something in the Water Festival April 28-30.

Lil Wayne Announces 28-City ‘Welcome To Tha Carter’ 2023 Tour

Celebrated rapper Lil Wayne has announced a lengthy 2023 spring tour. The 28-city trek, billed as the  Welcome To Tha Carter Tour , is presented by Weezy’s Young Money label, hip-hop festival producer Rolling Loud , and promoter Live Nation .

Lil Wayne will launch the  Welcome To That Carter tour at  The Fillmore Minneapolis in Minneapolis, MN on April 4th and make his way to notable theaters and a handful of arenas around the country throughout the rest of April and the first half of May before closing out the run on Saturday, May 13th at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA.

Highlights of the tour schedule include Madison, WI’s The Sylvee (4/9), Chicago, IL’s  Radius (4/9), New York, NY’s Apollo Theater (4/16), Atlanta, GA’s  The Tabernacle (4/22), Birmingham, AL’s  Iron City (4/24), St. Louis, MO’s  The Factory (4/26), Lexington, KY’s  Rupp Arena (4/30), Austin, TX’s  Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater (5/4), Denver, CO’s  Fillmore Auditorium (5/7), Phoenix, AZ’s  The Van Buren (5/9), and San Francisco, CA’s The Masonic (5/12).

If you haven’t been able to grab a ticket to Lil Wayne ‘s “Welcome To Tha Carter Tour,” you are in luck. On Monday (May 1), it was announced that the final stop on said tour, which is slated to take place at Los Angeles venue The Wiltern, will be livestreamed globally via Driift. Those interested can head over to Driift’s website and purchase a pass that grants access to tune in on May 13 at 9 p.m. PDT/12 a.m. EDT (May 14). Those who miss the initial broadcast will be able to watch a replay of the Young Money legend’s performance on the platform.

Weezy’s “ Welcome To Tha Carter Tour ” kicked off in Minneapolis back in April and has been traversing through several cities within the United States. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music (above), he opened up about taking a more intimate and unorthodox route for his current excursion.

“First of all, this tour is gonna be more of an intimate tour, and we’re sticking to a little game plan on this one,” he said. “A lot of joints that I don’t do, I usually do just my main hits, my bangers that I know is about to get the crowd going crazy. Every single song, I want you to be sweating when you leave… You’re still gonna go through all that I just said, but we’re doing a bunch of songs that I’ve never performed.”
