Dave Matthews Band Kick Off Tour with Rarities in Austin

Dave Matthews Band Kick Off Tour with Rarities in Austin

Last night, Dave Matthews Band kicked off their tour at the newly constructed Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The ensemble dusted off a handful of rarities, including the first “Break For It” performed with a full band since 2010.

The night before, the group played a private show in Austin. It marked the first time since 2005 that they played without Rashawn Ross, their longtime trumpeter, who has been playing with Lady Gaga during her recent Vegas run. However, Ross was back in time for the official tour kick-off last night.

The single set performance got underway with “Warehouse,” followed by a track off the band’s 1998 LP, Before These Crowded Streets , “Don’t Drink the Water.” Next, Dave Matthews Band picked up fan-favorite “You & Me” ahead of a rare live performance of “Madman’s Eyes,” which has only been played a total of five times since debuting on tour last year.

Next, they performed a favored take on “Grace Is Gone” and “Grey Street” before dusting off “Break for It,” played for the first time with a full band since Sept. 5, 2010. Then, they busted out another rarity, this time “Shotgun,” last performed on May 11, 2016, at Dave Matthews Band’s concert in Wichita, Kan. They followed with a segued pairing of “Pantala Naga Pampa” into “Rapunzel.”

The 21-song set continued with “Satellite” and “Funny the Way It Is.” Another bust out came next, “Break Free” was played for the first time with a full band, since Nov. 27, 2018. Then, Dave Matthews Band continued with “What Would You Say” and “Crush.” 2002’s “Where Are You Going” was followed by “The Only Thing” and “The Space Between.”

The band delivered “Dancing Nancies” off Under the Table and Dreaming before Matthews offered a skillful solo on “Kill the Preacher.” Finally, for the last song of the set, they played “Why I Am” before breaking into the first song of their encore, “Sister,” featuring Tim Reynolds, Carter Beauford and Ross. Then, the rest of the band joined in on “Ants Marching” to close out their Austin stand.

Following last night’s show, Dave Matthews Band will continue their tour tomorrow night at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here .

50 Cent Says Quavo Has to 'Come With Some Heat' Following Chris Brown's Diss Track

On Friday, Brown lobbed more insults at Quavo on his new track, "Weakest Link."

If there’s one thing 50 Cent loves, it’s conflict.

The Queens native chimed in on Chris Brown and Quavo ’s newly reignited beef, taking to Instagram to post a clip of Brown’s new diss track, “Weakest Link.”

“Oh my God i just heard this,” Fif wrote. “If Quavo don’t come with some heat it’s a wrap. First the Fat Boys break up now this!”

View this photo on Instagram

The Fat Boys mention is a reference to the 1992 movie, Boomerang , where Chris Rock’s character bemoans the rap trio disbanding. The group parted ways in the early 90s, just before the movie's arrival. Jay-Z later quoted Rock in The Blueprint album cut, “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love),” opening the track by rapping, “First the Fat Boys break up, now every day I wake up/Somebody got a problem with Hov.”

On Friday, Brown unleashed his diss track in response to the Migos rapper’s song “Tender” from earlier this month—which was his answer to Brown's song "Freak."

In addition to “Weakest Link” featuring artwork of Quavo eating a huge hotdog, the song mentions Quavo briefly dating Brown’s ex-girlfriend, Karreuche Tran. Brown also claims he hooked up with Saweetie while she and Quavo were together, fires back at Quavo by referencing him assaulting Saweetie in an elevator , and says that everyone wished Quavo had died instead of Takeoff.

"You fucked my ex-ho, that's cool, I don't give no fuck, lil n***a/'Cause I fucked yo' ex when you were still with her, bitch, I'm up, lil n***a," Brown rapped.

On “Tender,” Quavo wonders why Brown wants to provoke a fight over Tran, and also appears to allude to Brown’s 2009 domestic violence case with Rihanna.

"You did the bitch wrong and now the bitch gone, she posted with a thug," he raps on the hook. "Call the bitch phone, she won't come home, don't beat her up/It must be the drugs, need to cross out your plug."

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's latest class, 8 strong, includes Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner and Ozzy Osbourne

April 22, 2024 / 4:30 AM EDT / AP

New York  — Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne have been named to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a class that also includes folk-rockers Dave Matthews Band and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton.

Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton earned the Musical Influence Award, while the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will get the Musical Excellence Award. Pioneering music executive Suzanne de Passe won the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

"Rock 'n' roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations," John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. "This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps."

Fat Joe & Friends In Concert - New York, NY

The induction ceremony will be held Oct. 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. It will stream live on Disney+ with an airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

Those music acts nominated this year that didn't make the cut included Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, the late Sinéad O'Connor, soul-pop singer Sade, Britpoppers Oasis, hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim and alt-rockers Jane's Addiction.

There had been a starry push to get Foreigner - with the hits "Urgent" and "Hot Blooded" - into the hall, with Mark Ronson, Jack Black, Slash, Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney all publicly backing the move. Ronson's stepfather is Mick Jones, Foreigner's founding member, songwriter and lead guitarist.

Osbourne, who led many parents in the 1980s to clutch their pearls with his devil imagery and sludgy music, goes in as a solo artist, having already been inducted into the hall with metal masters Black Sabbath.

Four of the eight - Cher, Foreigner, Frampton and Kool & the Gang - were on the ballot for the first time.

Cher - the only artist to have a No. 1 song in each of the past six decades - and Blige, with eight multi-platinum albums and nine Grammy Awards, will help boost the number of women in the hall, which critics say is too low.

Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they're eligible for induction.

Nominees were voted on by more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry professionals. Fans voted online or in person at the museum, with the top five artists picked by the public making up a "fans' ballot" that was tallied with the other professional ballots.

Last year, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius, Kate Bush and the late George Michael were some of the artists who got into the hall .
