Hi all Just thought i would share a few photos of my morris traveller with you, this job started as a near side spring hanger but when i found out that some one had used filler around the seat belt anchor point in the floor i decided to take it off the road for a rebuild. I will be adding a few more pictures next week when the sills are finished. So please take a look here. http://s697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/01-pegasus/ Please go easy on my welding its been a long time since i last welded a car. Mark

morris traveller rear door stay

doors fit better now than they did before, its been a long time since i did this sort of thing and my welding skills are now a little rusty but in the past i have rebuilt 2 travellers, customised a moggy van, rebuilt 5 p5b`s (2 saloons and 3 coupes) 3 p6`s, 1 p4 a gt6 and a 2 door range rover. It feels good to get back to it although i am now having to work out side and rely on the weather.

Drains

Ooh, a half-timbered rustbucket. Nice!

He He good init!

Here are some more pictures

This part i have made from scratch but cant fit until the wooden side is removed

One side and roof removed and now to trial fit the new side before varnishing. (Thats my son peering out of the car) I can now finish the welding on that side.

Finalreminder

Professional amateur.

Great work there my man! My old man used to renovate these moggy's. He did a traveller and two saloons (if that's what they're called) Are you going to take this to the MMOC shows?

i will do when its done, my 11 year old daughter has made a claim to this car when she can drive. My son (the one in the car) wants one of the original minis so it looks like my next project is sorted.

fantastic work! i have a soft spot for morris', we used to have one when i was little (maroon traveller) which ended up sat in our garage for 13 years after it failed its MOT and my dad insisted he was going to get round to fixing it but never did. So in the end i advertised it on the MMOC and someone snapped it up so hopefully its on the road somewhere back to its former glory. Next door have just bought a convertible one. It's a bit tatty round the edges but i've done a few bits on it for her like fix the fuel pump, replace the starter and replace all the brakes. They're so simple to work on, have such a great character and look cool! Have you made the wooden frame parts yourself or are they aftermarket replacements?

  • Jul 23, 2009

The wood is aftermarket replacements, i got the 2 sides in a job lot of spares but i have had to have the rear doors made as i hadnt got them, and i dont think it would look as good refitting the old doors onto new sides (although a lot of people do). The frames are made from Ash as the originals were, but i am making the inside wood cappings myself these are going to be made from oak. I have a bit more welding to do then ime ready to do the bodywork and give it a respray before fitting the wood properly. I will post more photos when i have them. Mark

Close the doors tight and shim the doors so you have a reasonably constant shut gap around the doors and between them. Do this with the rubber quadrant in place on the main rear frame, do not fit any to the doors yet. Tighten up the pillar nuts then the door nuts making sure that the doors stay in position. This should see the doors sorted.
