St James' Park has always been one of the standout stadiums in the Premier League but things have been taken up a notch in recent seasons thanks to Newcastle United's return to prominence following the Saudi acquisition of the club.

The Magpies' dramatic improvement on the pitch since the takeover has seen St James' Park once again become a fortress and, as a result, Newcastle United tickets are once again very hard to come by.

Whether you are on the lookout for Premier League tickets or UEFA Champions League tickets to watch Eddie Howe's team in action then we have you covered. Below, is a fan-led, regularly updated and all-encompassing guide on how to purchase all types of Newcastle United tickets from single matchday tickets to hospitality packages and everything in between.

Newcastle United tickets & prices at St James' Park

If you are a Newcastle fan or simply following your team for an away match at St James' Park, there are various tickets from which to choose one that suits your needs. Let's go through the list below.

Newcastle United season tickets: Pricing, availability

The only way to guarantee a match ticket for every single Newcastle game at St James' Park is to purchase a season ticket. All season tickets were sold out for the 23/24 season and the club don't operate a waiting list, meaning that season tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis each summer should any become available.

Prices of season tickets rose by 5% for adults for the 2023/24 season but Newcastle still have some of the cheapest season ticket prices in the Premier League. The cheapest season ticket at St James' Park for an adult costs £438 while the most expensive is £852.

Newcastle United matchday tickets and single-match tickets: Pricing, availability

If you don't have a season ticket, then you will have to buy a matchday ticket on a game-by-game basis. Purchasing single-match tickets can be tricky at Newcastle with the vast majority of matches going to a ballot to allocate tickets. In order to be eligible for the ballot, you need to be a member of the club with only a small number of games going to general sale.

Should you be successful in the ballot, then you will be presented with the opportunity to purchase home tickets. Ticket prices differ based on the category of the game and the whereabouts in the stadium you want to sit. For Category A fixtures – those against the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City – adult tickets range from £32-70 while junior tickets range from £17-38.

Do I need a membership to buy Newcastle United tickets?

Technically speaking it isn't essential to have a membership to buy Newcastle United tickets, however, having one significantly increases your chances of getting tickets. The ticket sales process for each home game follows the same pattern – members are invited to enter a ballot for tickets and those who are successful are then given the opportunity to purchase tickets.

If any tickets are left remaining after the member's ballot then members are then given another opportunity to purchase tickets, this time directly via the online Newcastle ticketing platform where any remaining tickets will be listed. It is only after this stage that non-members are able to purchase tickets but it is very rare that it ever gets to this point.

How to get a Newcastle United membership?

Newcastle United memberships can be purchased via the club's official website. Unlike other clubs, Newcastle don't have various levels of membership. Instead, they have one membership type for adults for the 23/24 season which costs £37 and one membership for junior supporters which costs £20.

Newcastle United tickets FAQs

How to get to st james' park at newcastle united.

Getting to St James' Park is far easier on public transport as opposed to driving. The stadium is situated in the middle of Newcastle city centre so can be a pain to get to if driving due to a combination of match and city centre traffic.

If you are travelling by car, then head down the A1 North before converging on to the A184 towards Newcastle. Once you are in Newcastle city centre, you will be able to see the stadium, at which point start looking for a car park. There are plenty but they do fill up quickly so arrive early.

Sit Where?

Best seats at Newcastle United’s St James’s Park

  • Posted by by Matt Preston

When attending a Newcastle United game at St James’ Park, choosing the right seat can make all the difference in your experience. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide where to sit. However, with a little guidance, you can find the perfect spot to enjoy the game.

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a seat is your budget. Seats closer to the pitch and in the middle of the stand tend to be more expensive, while seats further away from the pitch and at the ends of the stand are usually cheaper.

However, keep in mind that cheaper seats may have a more limited view of the pitch.

Another factor to consider is the atmosphere. If you’re looking for a lively and energetic atmosphere, the Gallowgate End is the place to be.

This stand is known for its passionate fans and lively chants. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, the Milburn Stand may be a better choice. This stand is known for its comfortable seating and great views of the pitch.

About the Stadium

St James’ Park is the home of Newcastle United Football Club, located on the edge of Newcastle’s city centre. It is the largest football stadium in the North East of England, with a seating capacity of 52,305.

The stadium has four main stands, each with its own unique atmosphere and views of the pitch. The Milburn Stand is the largest stand and is located on the east side of the stadium.

It offers excellent views of the pitch and is the most popular stand among home supporters.

newcastle stadium tour prices

The Leazes Stand is located on the west side of the stadium and is the oldest stand. It has a steep rake, which means that the seats are close to the pitch, providing excellent views.

The Gallowgate Stand is located on the north side of the stadium and is known for its lively atmosphere. The Sir John Hall Stand is located on the south side of the stadium and offers excellent views of the pitch.

St James’ Park has a rich history and has undergone several renovations over the years. The most recent renovation was completed in 2000, which included the addition of a new roof and the installation of executive boxes.

While the stadium has many positive aspects, there are also some issues that visitors should be aware of. The stadium can be difficult to navigate, especially for first-time visitors.

The concourses can be narrow and crowded, and the toilets can be difficult to find. Additionally, the stadium can be noisy, which may be an issue for some visitors.

Overall, St James’ Park is a fantastic stadium with a rich history and a unique atmosphere. While there are some issues that visitors should be aware of, they are outweighed by the stadium’s many positive aspects. If you are a football fan, a visit to St James’ Park is definitely worth your time.

History and Redevelopment

St. James’ Park has been the home of Newcastle United Football Club since 1892. The stadium has undergone several redevelopments over the years to increase its capacity and improve facilities for fans.

In the early 20th century, the stadium was expanded to accommodate up to 60,000 spectators. However, it wasn’t until the 1990s when Sir John Hall took over the club that significant redevelopment work took place. The Leazes End was rebuilt, and a new two-tier stand was built on the Milburn side of the ground, increasing the capacity to over 36,000.

newcastle stadium tour prices

In 1998, the stadium was expanded again with the construction of the Sir John Hall Stand, which added an additional 11,000 seats. The stand was named after the former Newcastle United chairman who oversaw the redevelopment of the stadium.

In recent years, there have been discussions about further expanding the stadium to increase its capacity to 80,000 seats. However, the club has yet to announce any concrete plans for redevelopment.

Despite the stadium’s rich history and numerous redevelopments, there have been some issues with the stadium’s design. The asymmetrical shape of the ground and the distance between the pitch and the stands can make it difficult for some fans to see the action on the pitch. Additionally, the stadium’s location in the heart of the city can make access and parking difficult on matchdays.

However, despite these issues, St. James’ Park remains one of the most iconic stadiums in English football. Its unique design and passionate fanbase make it a must-visit destination for any football fan.

Notable Players and Managers

When it comes to Newcastle United, there have been many notable players and managers throughout the years. From legendary players to successful managers, the club has seen its fair share of talent.

Some of the most notable players to have played for Newcastle United include Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn, and Peter Beardsley.

Shearer is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and a true legend of the game. Milburn, on the other hand, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played for the club. Beardsley, meanwhile, is a fan favorite who played for the club on two separate occasions.

In terms of managers, Newcastle United has seen some of the biggest names in the sport take charge of the team. Sir Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan, and Rafa Benitez are just a few of the notable names to have managed the club.

Robson, in particular, is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the club’s history, having led the team to a successful period in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

While the club has seen its fair share of success over the years, there have also been some issues. The club has had a reputation for being somewhat unstable at times, with ownership issues and managerial changes causing problems.

However, despite these issues, the club has always managed to bounce back and remain a force to be reckoned with in the world of football.

Overall, Newcastle United is a club with a rich history and a bright future. Whether you’re a fan of the club or just a lover of the beautiful game, there’s no denying the impact that Newcastle United has had on the sport.

The passionate fans, lively atmosphere, and great view of the pitch make it a must-visit destination for any football fan. So, no matter which grandstand you choose, you’re sure to have a great time.

This section can accommodate up to 3,000 away fans and is separated from the home supporters by a partition.

The view from this section is generally considered to be good, with the seats being elevated and providing a clear view of the pitch.

Newcastle United History

Newcastle United Football Club are an English professional football club with a massive, loyal fanbase worldwide. They were founded in 1892 by James Braddell and William Beresford Johnson. NUFC have won 27 major trophies and play their home games at St James' Park which has a 52,350 capacity.

Since the club's inception the Magpies have played their home matches at St James' Park. This is one of the oldest football grounds in England, first opening in 1880. Two of NUFC's greatest achievements were in the early 1950s when the club clinched back-to-back FA Cup titles and then followed that up with another FA Cup triumph in 1955.

Over their history, NUFC have won several major trophies including the old First Division title on four occasions, the FA Cup six times, as well as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1968/69. During the English Premier League era the Magpies have come close to securing the title, famously finishing second twice, in 1995/96 & 1996/97, the first time under much-loved manager Kevin Keegan.

Newcastle United Today

NUFC are now considered one of the richest clubs in the world following the investment made by the new ownership group. The club was sold to a consortium led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) in 2021. It's a big step up in terms of the funding available to the manager, especially when compared to life under Sir John Hall and Mike Ashley.

Newcastle made a grand return to the Champions League in 2023/24, having finished 4th in the previous Premier League campaign. However, the Magpies finished bottom of their group and thus were eliminated from the competition.

Eddie Howe has been the Newcastle manager ever since the Saudi takeover. Howe has solidified Newcastle as one of the top teams in the division and NUFC are a threat to all the big clubs in the Premier League.

Newcastle fans looking to secure Premier League tickets should consider buying their tickets via one of the safe & vetted resellers at SeatPick . Fans can compare a wide range of ticket prices all in one place, helping you find the very best deals on the market for NUFC tickets.

Newcastle United Rivalries

The Magpies have a major rivalry with local enemies Sunderland . The Toon Army also has animosity towards Middlesbrough , another club based in the North East of England, while Manchester United are also sometimes considered as a rival of Newcastle United.

Newcastle vs Sunderland Tickets

The Tyne-Wear derby is a local battle between Sunderland and Newcastle United. The rivalry is an inter-city conflict in North East England with the cities of Sunderland and Newcastle 12 miles (19 km) apart. The rivalry stems from the clubs' proximity, their differences in status and cultural differences (Newcastle, like the rest of the north of England, is seen as more working-class; Sunderland has a more middle-class fanbase).

Newcastle United away friendly announced - 4,500 tickets for NUFC fans

A third Newcastle United friendly has been announced.

As well as the two games in Japan, Eddie Howe’s side will play Hull City.

The match is a 2pm kick-off on Saturday 27 July down on Humberside.

Sky Sports report that the NUFC fans have been given 4,500 tickets for this Newcastle United friendly.

Newcastle United official announcement – 28 June 2024:

‘Newcastle United have announced a pre-season friendly with Hull City at the MKM Stadium next month.

Eddie Howe’s side face the Tigers, who finished seventh in the Championship last term, on Saturday, 27th July (kick-off 2pm BST) before heading to Japan after being invited to participate in the ‘J. League International Series 2024 powered by docomo’ in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The remainder of United’s pre-season programme for the 2024/25 campaign, including home fixtures, will be announced on newcastleunited.com in due course.

Tickets for the friendly against Hull will go on sale at 2pm (BST) on Monday, 1st July to 2024/25 season ticket holders with 60 and above away points. Points will be reduced daily at 2pm, excluding weekends – subject to availability.

Ticket prices are as follows;

Adult (23-64) – £15

Senior (65+) / 16-22 Years – £7.50

Juniors 11-15 Years – £7.50

Juniors (2-10) – £3.50

Please note this fixture is all ticket, therefore there will be no ticket sales available on the day of the game.

Babies/toddlers under the age of two years old will not be admitted to the stadium as they are not deemed able to occupy a seat which compromises the stadium’s safety certificate.

Unaccompanied children/young people under the age of 14 years will not be admitted into the MKM Stadium without a person aged 18 and above. Tickets will be in the form of paper.

Following supporter consultation, there will be a limited allocation open to season ticket holder ballot for those who do not meet the away points threshold. This ballot will go live after the final points drop and will be open for entry for 24 hours.

Supporters will be asked to input card details. If they are successful in the ballot, payment will be taken and the season ticket holder will be notified by email. Those that are unsuccessful in the ballot will not be contacted and will not be charged.

Please note all tickets are for the sole use of the supporter making the purchase under their Newcastle United supporter number and are strictly non-transferable. There will be random spot checks at away stadiums throughout the season and failure to produce appropriate ID matching the purchaser supporter number will result in removal of your loyalty points and/or your season ticket being voided.’

Brighton signing Yankuba Minteh is a signal – they are a top-10 club

TOPSHOT - Feyenoord's Gambian forward #19 Yankuba Minteh celebrates after scoring his team first goal during the UEFA Champions League group E football match between Celtic and Feyenoord at Celtic Park stadium in Glasgow on December 13, 2023. (Photo by ANDY BUCHANAN / AFP) (Photo by ANDY BUCHANAN/AFP via Getty Images)

Brighton & Hove Albion’s signing of Yankuba Minteh is a signal about the type of club they are striving to become in the Premier League .

They want to establish themselves in its top 10, while staying within their financial capabilities. To achieve this goal, they are gradually trying to improve the quality and depth of the squad.

This is the second time in a year they have paid £30million ($38m) for a player. The weekend’s signing of the 19-year-old Gambian winger from Newcastle United follows the club-record arrival last summer of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro , now 22, from Championship side Watford for £30m.

These are not big fees for the level they wish to operate at, bearing in mind that Brighton received £115million from Chelsea for Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo last August. They are still dwarfed by the spending power of the game’s elite clubs. Nevertheless, there is an underlying significance to the player Brighton are paying that amount of money for this time. This is a new scale of boldness, taking into consideration the club Minteh is joining them from and the fee of £30million.

He is also the type of signing that stays true to Brighton’s DNA — a young player with huge potential and, eventually, resale value if developed successfully.

They already had two African wingers on the books who fit that model.

Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra was bought from Danish club Nordsjaelland for £6million in June 2022, when he was 20 years old. This February, they completed the signing of 19-year-old Ghana international Ibrahim Osman , also from Nordsjaelland, for around £16m. Osman arrived at the Amex Stadium last month when the summer transfer window officially opened.

Minteh has come to Brighton from a club they are in direct competition with in that chasing group beneath the so-called ‘Big Six’ rather than from foreign shores, as was the case with Adingra and Osman. That, in itself, is a statement of intent, but why is the fee so high in the context of the signings they usually make? Well, there are different factors at play.

🇬🇲🤳 pic.twitter.com/i9mg2w9ij1 — Brighton & Hove Albion (@OfficialBHAFC) July 1, 2024

Minteh was available due to Newcastle’s frantic need to sell to plug a financial black hole of over £50million to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Without quickly selling players before June 30, the end of the financial year for many clubs, they risked a points deduction — a fate suffered by Everton and Nottingham Forest last season and facing promoted Leicester City in the upcoming one.

Why then, given that Newcastle were selling out of necessity rather than choice, could Brighton not have driven the price down?

Ironically, it is the price they pay for their good housekeeping.

In April, they announced an annual profit of £122.8million for the 2022-23 season — best among all the Premier League’s clubs. And that figure did not even include the sales of Caicedo and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez , also to Chelsea last summer for £25m, since those deals came outside the accounting period concerned. The combined total of £140million for those transfers will instead apply to the 2023-24 season.

Selling clubs, such as Newcastle, are aware of Brighton’s strong financial position when they come calling for one of their players.

They will also have been aware of Brighton’s long-standing interest in Minteh, as they were rivals for his signature when Newcastle bought him from Danish side Odense last summer for an initial £6.5million.

Though he never played for Newcastle at any level in an official match, Minteh averaged a goal contribution every two games on loan to Feyenoord last season in the Dutch Eredivisie (10 goals and six assists in 27 appearances).

newcastle stadium tour prices

He had been linked with Everton, Lyon in France and Germany’s recent Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund as well, so there was widespread interest in a player Newcastle needed to extract as much value as possible from and who Brighton were very keen to land.

It does not follow that Brighton are now in the game of paying falsely-inflated fees.

The data-led algorithm of owner-chairman Tony Bloom, on which recruitment decisions are based, includes a current valuation of targets. They have taken the view that £30million is a reasonable price to pay for Minteh, described as “incredibly fast” by Arne Slot when he played for Liverpool ’s new head coach at Rotterdam club Feyenoord last season.

Brighton are about to unleash Minteh in the Premier League. If he makes an impact, that £30million will look cheap. There are risks involved with any signing, but Brighton trust their model.

The fundamental reason behind the departure of Brighton’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi by mutual consent at the end of last season was irreconcilable differences over player recruitment. De Zerbi wanted more established, ready-made players for the Premier League. While the Italian seeks to revive new French employers Marseille , his 31-year-old successor Fabian Hurzeler has inherited a crop of teenage talent now further boosted by Minteh.

Along with Minteh, Osman and Adingra, the array of wingers at the club includes Japan international Kaoru Mitoma , the long-serving Solly March and Jeremy Sarmiento .

Mitoma and March are both due back from long-term injuries — March has been out since October with knee damage, Mitoma since February because of a back problem.

Sarmiento is on Copa America duty with Ecuador and looking forward to a quarter-final against World Cup holders and defending champions Argentina on Thursday (early Friday UK time), having spent last season on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and then Ipswich Town , who joined Leicester in winning automatic promotion.

There will be difficult choices about who plays and even who stays, but that is all part of the growth into the club Brighton want to be — featuring regularly in the Premier League’s top half, contending for European qualification again after De Zerbi led them there for the first time in the club’s history in 2022-23 and competing for the two domestic cups.
