Latios is a Legendary flying Pokémon that can be very tricky to find and capture. Not only can it appear randomly anywhere in the world, but it will flee from battle the first chance it gets. With the right Pokémon in your party and a good supply of items, however, you can add Latios to your Pokémon collection with ease.

Making Latios Appear

Step 1 Defeat the Elite Four and complete the story.

  • If you've already selected "Red" but want to get Latios as well, click here.

wikiHow Quiz: What Is My Pokémon Type?

Pick your ideal color palette:.

Light blue, light pink, light purple, and peach.

Gold, bright orange, wine red, and maroon.

Black, azure, light blue, and blue-white.

Light sage green, light yellow, light orange, tangerine.

Preparing to Capture Latios

Step 1 Make preparations before starting the hunt.

  • If you have a Master Ball, you don't really need to worry about any other preparations, and can skip down to the next section. If you don't have your Master Ball anymore, read on.

Step 3 Train a Gengar or Crobat (Option 1).

  • Train your Gengar or Crobat up to at least Level 50. This will ensure that they have enough speed to beat Latios.
  • When leveling up your Gengar or Crobat, make sure that you don't forget the Mean Look skill. Gengar learns it at Level 13, while Crobat learns it at Level 42.
  • If you want to use the Super Repel trick to make finding Latios easier (see below), use Gengar and keep it at Level 39.

Step 4 Find a Wobbuffet (Option 2).

  • Train Wobbuffet to Level 39 to use the Super Repel trick (see below).
  • Make sure that Wobbuffet is the first Pokémon in your party so that it can trap Latios.

Step 5 Fill the rest of your party with strong Pokémon.

  • It will also help to have a Pokémon with the Paralyze ability to help keep Latios trapped.

Step 6 Stock up on Ultra Balls.

  • Once you have the White Flute, give it to whichever Pokémon is at the head of your party.

Step 8 Stock up on Super Repels (optional).

Finding and Catching Latios

Step 1 Trade Latios with a friend, and then trade back (if possible).

  • Have a friend trade you their Latios, and then trade it back right away. You simply need to receive it in a trade in order for it to appear in your Pokedex.

Step 2 Fly to the Safari Zone.

  • Note: If you traded with a friend, use the location in your Pokedex to find Latios instead.

Step 3 Use a Super Repel (optional) and walk around the grass outside the Safari Zone.

  • If you traded and are tracking Latios with your Pokedex, don't leave the route that its on until you've found it.

Step 6 Catch Latios.

  • If you have a Master Ball, throw it immediately to catch Latios.
  • Make sure to use your trap ability (Shadow Tag, Mean Look) as soon as the battle begins.
  • If you have Wobbuffet, Mirror Coat is very useful as Latios uses a lot of Special Attacks.
  • Use Paralyze to help keep Latios from fleeing.
  • Use False Swipe to get Latios down to 1 HP.
  • Start throwing Ultra Bars as soon as Latios's health is low.

Step 7 Chase down Latios if it flees.

Obtaining Latios if Latias is Roaming

Step 1 Trade for Latios.

  • While there are codes to get Latios directly, it's recommended that you use the ticket instead. When you add Pokémon using codes, they can be fairly buggy, so use the ticket instead and catch the Latios as the game expects you to. This will also make the Pokémon legitimate for tournaments, as it is not a hacked Pokemon.

Step 3 Enter the codes for the Eon Ticket.

  • Make sure Pokémon Emerald is running and click the "Cheats" menu.
  • Select "Cheat list..." and then click Gameshark... to enter a new cheat code.
  • Enter the following codes, creating a new code for each separate box. Enter the "Description" into the "Description" field, and then copy the code into the Code field.
  Description: Master   D8BAE4D9 4864DCE5   A86CDBA5 19BA49B3
  Description: Anti-DMA   B2809E31 3CEF5320   1C7B3231 B494738C
  Description: Eon Ticket   121F112F DA7E52B4
  Description: Southern Island   0D6A02AA B44948BD

Step 4 Retrieve the Eon Ticket from your PC.

Hoenn Route 121

Hoenn Route 121

Route 121 (Japanese: 121番道路 Route 121 ) is a route in central Hoenn , connecting Lilycove City , Route 120 , Route 122 , and Hoenn's Safari Zone .

Route description

From Route 120, Route 121 proceeds east, passing a pair of Trainers (three Trainers in Pokémon Emerald ), two grass patches and a soft soil patch containing four varieties of Berries . The path passes through another grass patch before coming to a three-way intersection. The eastern path, blocked by a cut -able tree, is a shortcut that leads to the Safari Zone entrance. Trainers who lack the ability to use cut must head south from this intersection to a four-way intersection down two flights of stairs from the previous junction. To the west is a narrow, winding path leading to another Cut-able tree and a Secret Base location. South of here is the dock that leads to Route 122, which is a water route . Route 121, however, continues east.

After passing through another grass patch, Route 121 meets the shortcut path once again. From this point, Trainers can head northwest, ascending two flights of stairs, to arrive at the Safari Zone.

The main path continues east into a heavily fenced area. After entering another patch of grass, the route turns to the north and comes to another intersection populated by grass. The west path leads to a Trainer and an item, as well as a tiny patch of grass. The east path leads to another Trainer and another small grass patch. At the Trainer, however, the main path of the route turns south before curving to the east and passing through either a grass patch (Ruby/Sapphire) or the path of two Trainers (Emerald). East of the obstacle, a hole in the fence to the south leads to another soft soil patch with two Nanab Berry plants.

Route 121 curves to the northeast as it enters Lilycove.

Route 121 appeared in The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon VIII , where Roxanne , Brawly , and Wallace fought against Groudon there in order to stop it from advancing through Hoenn , with Roxanne having her Nosepass use Block to prevent it from getting away. However, the three Gym Leaders were then attacked by the three Admins of Team Magma , who took them to Lilycove City and started battling them to keep them from interfering with Groudon.
