Sail aboard one of our contemporary ships from Vancouver, British Columbia or Honolulu, Hawaii and bask in the perfect combination of adventures and culture ashore and relaxing days at sea. Sample island-grown produce, bathe under waterfalls, and discover the dazzling reefs of the underwater world. Cruises to Hawaii will leave you enchanted, whatever your interests.
Featured Highlights
Dramatic scenery.
You’re constantly aware of the power of nature in Hawaii, where the lush scenery is like something out of another world. Jagged cliffs, beaches of glittering black sand, ribbon-like waterfalls cascading from emerald escarpments, and smoldering volcanoes catch your eye at every turn. You’ll see pounding surf, limpid lagoons, and sometimes a snowy cap on the highest mountains. Explore bamboo forests and plunging gorges. At night, look up at the astonishing array of stars.
Unique Culture
Hawaiian people feel a deep connection to nature and embrace the spirit of Aloha, which means living in harmony with nature and the people around you. Beliefs are expressed through beautiful chants, music, graceful hula, and art. Stories relayed from one generation to the next invoke the spirits and the historical events that have shaped the islands. Natural phenomena are understood as the work of gods and goddesses, and many locations and animals are regarded as sacred.
Intriguing Cuisine
Hawaii boasts a unique cuisine, with influences from Polynesia, Japan, and America. Taste fresh tuna poke bowls, sweet pineapple, and juicy strawberry papaya. Try lomi lomi, salted salmon with tomatoes, onions, and hot peppers. Sample local chocolate and enjoy coffee made from Kona beans. Experience everything from delicate sushi and sashimi to moco loco. Look out for spam, a local favorite, served in wontons or as Spam musubi with rice and nori.

Top Hawaii FAQs
What is the best time of year to take a cruise to Hawaii?
The best time of year to visit Hawaii is from March to September, when you can expect warm temperatures and less rain. Hawaii is, however, a year-round destination, with great snorkeling, hiking, and beach life at any time of year.
How long does a typical cruise last?
Our Hawaiian cruises last from nine to 13 nights, sailing between Vancouver and Honolulu. You could also choose a transpacific cruise, starting or ending in Honolulu. These longer voyages range from 16 to 19 nights.
What are the main ports of call?
The main ports of call in Hawaii are Honolulu, from where our cruises start or finish, and Hilo and Kona, both on the Big Island. On some itineraries, you’ll also enjoy scenic cruising along the Napali Coast on Kauai, a sacred landscape of emerald cliffs, pristine beaches, and jagged mountain ridges. Some cruises also visit Astoria in Oregon before the Pacific crossing to Hawaii.
What should I pack?
Hawaii is a tropical destination with year-round warm weather and high humidity. Pack for beach days, and if you’re an active kind of traveler, hikes and adventures. Swimwear, sunblock, coverups, beach shoes, a sun hat, and proper footwear for hiking should all be on your list.
Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.
Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.
Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.
The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theatre.
Can I fly to Hawaii and then cruise the islands?
Our cruises to Hawaii operate one-way either to or from Honolulu and Vancouver (or Sydney, Australia in terms of transpacific voyages). So yes, if you pick a Honolulu to Vancouver departure, you can easily fly to Hawaii and spend a few days exploring before embarking on your Celebrity ship.
Do I need a passport?
For Hawaii cruises that either begin or end in Vancouver, Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry proof of citizenship and identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens.
If you have chosen to visit Hawaii as part of a transpacific cruise, you’ll also need a passport.
Non-U.S. citizens also require a passport for entry into both the U.S. and Canada (and the countries visited on our transpacific cruises). It is your responsibility to check your government’s website for the latest information about entry and visa requirements.
What kind of activities and excursions are available?
Hawaii offers a wonderful range of activities and experiences. From Kona, join a snorkel or submarine tour to admire the spectacular underwater world. Meet local producers and try island-made coffee and chocolate, or explore the lush interior of the Big Island in a 4x4, stopping to cool off under tumbling waterfalls.
Historic Hilo is also famous as the gateway to magnificent falls and verdant rainforest. Admire the dramatic lava landscapes of the Volcanoes National Park shaped by the still-active Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes. In Honolulu, make time to visit Pearl Harbor, or stroll along the iconic Waikiki Beach.

10 Best Cruises to Hawaii — From Luxury Sailings to Expedition Ships
A cruise around the 50th state is an excellent way to see as much of the islands as possible in a limited amount of time.
Courtesy of Viking Cruises
The islands of Hawaii are popular with families, couples, retirees, groups of friends, and anyone who enjoys warm weather, tropical scenery, and the 50th state's "Aloha" spirit. Each island offers a different climate, landscape, and style, and even on the same island, there are significant variations depending on location. On Oahu, for example, there's bustling Honolulu on the south shore and the more secluded surfing paradise of the North Shore . On the Big Island, the Hilo and Puna regions on the east coast are wet and heavily forested, whereas the Kailua-Kona region on the west coast tends to be much drier.
Visitors to Hawaii, especially first-timers, want to experience as much of the islands as possible, and a cruise is a great way to accomplish that, according to Pam Jacobs , travel advisor at Travel Store in Palos Verdes Estates, California. “People love the inter-island cruises because all meals are included, so it’s an economical as well as convenient way to see the islands. You unpack once and avoid getting in and out of airports and checking in and out of hotels. It’s the best way to island hop.”
Families and travelers with limited time enjoy the seven-day Norwegian Cruise Lines Honolulu to Honolulu round trip cruises, while retirees may opt for a longer cruise from the West Coast with more days at sea. You can embark from several ports on the West Coast, including San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle. “Many Hawaiʻi cruises are part of longer voyages to the South Pacific, Australia, or around the world,” says Jacobs, a cruise and train travel specialist.
“The shore excursions on the cruises are the same things a tourist would do on land — go to a luau, play golf, visit an attraction like the Arizona Memorial, or just relax on the beach — and it’s all arranged for you,” according to Jacobs. One more bit of advice from our cruise expert: “Always arrive a day before your cruise to be sure you’re there and ready. You’ll have time to explore and relax before boarding.”
Below are some of the best cruises to see Hawaiʻi . Dates, prices, amenities, and itineraries vary, so choosing a cruise requires some planning and research. That's always part of the fun, so hopefully this list will inspire you to get started.
Holland America: 17-day Circle Hawaii - Round Trip from San Diego

Maui is the next island on the itinerary, and guests can choose a drive to Haleakala Crater , a snorkel adventure aboard the new Reef Explorer, or a drive to Maui’s Upcountry or rainforest. The final two stops, Hilo and Kona, are on the Big Island. In Kona, there’s an optional Atlantis submarine trip to explore coral gardens or a catamaran cruise. Options include visits to Volcanoes National Park and in Hilo, guests can tour Rainbow Falls or go for a zipline adventure. After departing Vancouver , British Columbia, the ship spends four days at sea before it arrives in Honolulu for a day of exploring Oʻahu with a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center or Waikiki Beach. The ship crosses the International Date Line with a day at sea and then passes the beautiful Napali Coast of Kauai, famous for its dramatic cliffs rising from the ocean. The final stop is Oahu, and passengers spend as much time as they want exploring Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, or the rest of the island before heading home.

Courtesy of Norwegian Cruises
Spend a week exploring four of Hawaii's islands on this cruise aboard the 2,186-passenger Pride of America , the only ship sailing to four Hawaiian islands in seven days year-round. “These Norwegian Cruise Line trips are a dependable way to see the islands with their convenient weekly departures,” Jacobs says. “You can see the other islands and spend some time in Oahu before or after your cruise.” Onboard activities include basketball, volleyball, video games, theater, hot tubs, spa, and shopping. Departing Honolulu on Saturday evening, the ship heads to Kahului, Maui for two days with options like a drive on the Road to Hana, a catamaran cruise to Molokini for snorkeling with sea turtles, a tour to Haleakala Crater, and more. On Kauai , passengers can enjoy a traditional luau, hike through a rainforest, go kayaking, or take in Waimea Canyon . The cruise ends the following Saturday back in Honolulu, where passengers can explore the city, nearby Pearl Harbor , or Oahu's North Shore.
UnCruise Adventures: Hawaiian Seascapes
Courtesy of UnCruise
“The UnCruise expedition-style cruises focus on the destinations rather than the ship,” according to Pam Jacobs. “The experience is immersive, eco-friendly, and there’s always great camaraderie with the small groups.” This seven-night cruise aboard the 36-guest Safari Explorer begins in Kona, on the Big Island, with a champagne welcome from the captain. The following two days feature a hike up the slopes of Hualalai with a naturalist guide, night snorkeling among Giant Pacific Manta rays, and plenty of opportunities for swimming or kayaking. On day four in Maui, guests can stroll through historic Lahaina, snorkel among coral and sea turtles, or kayak in a marine sanctuary. Lanai is the next island, where guests can paddleboard or kayak past 1,000-foot-high sea cliffs, go snorkeling, take a bike excursion, or visit the quaint Lanai Culture and Heritage Center. On Molokai, guests can learn how taro is cultivated and turned into poi , or they can hike to a spectacular waterfall in Halawa Valley . At the Molokai Museum, a lesson on the island's history is followed by a pa'ina (feast), complete with traditional music. Passengers disembark the following day at Kaunakakai , where they can either transfer to Molokai Airport or extend their stay.

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Carnival Miracle
I have been cruising with Carnival for the last 15 years and had good experiences with them up until 2024. We did the 15 day Hawaii cruise and were highly disappointed. Food and Service on the Carnival Miracle was subpar at best and the ship had many things out of service like ice makers throughout the ships drink stations. We noticed that there was far less crew in the MDR and at the bars. ... Read More

This was our dream cruise that was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic. The food was horrible except for the frosted flakes and the ice cream. The only thing I ate that was hot was some soup. The menue is way to exotic. Guys burgers was the best there was. We didn't try any specialty dinning though. Leaving the ship for almost every port was a hot mess. No communication as to what was ... Review for a Transpacific Cruise on Carnival Luminosa
BOARDING: This cruise did not start well. The line to board was not something I have ever experienced before - as this was my 15th cruise I had experienced everything from "almost instant boarding" to "wait in line" but nothing prepared us for the more than three hour wait - and we had already done the online check in! The ship was supposed to leave at 4pm, but they hadn't boarded all the ... Read More

this is the worst ship I have ever been on for maintenance and services that ship is not been fully refinished the outside of the ship is in poor shape the flooring or deck of the ship is very dangerous to walk on my wife had a major fall the first day on the ship and received major injuries the ship head explain they do not have time to repair so we had to leave the ship 5 days later and fly home ... We just got back from Hawaii on Sept 30th and this cruise was anything but a Miracle. It started out with 4 sea days which wasn't so bad but it was not only a family vacation but also for my 10 year anniversary. There were about 28 of us in total. I had a stateroom on 1 and found out the first week that the cruise that had just disembarked the ship from Alaska had a lot of covid cases and that ... Read More

Review for a Transpacific Cruise on Carnival Splendor
I am a 60 year old male who travels solo. I booked this cruise from Seattle to Australia because it was close to where I live plus the itinerary was interesting and the cruise was still on COVID pricing. I was hesitant to go even up to the final day of embarkation because of all the negative reviews I read. I am so glad I went!!! I found the negative reviews were completely erroneous. If the ... This was supposed to be a "special sailabration cruise" Nothing special about it! They take your money and make changes at the last minute blaming covid. You never knew you were on a sailabration cruise until the very last day. Lido deck was very boring. No entertainment except a DJ. playing music a few hours everyday. 5 very boring days at sea. Entertainment at the phantom theater was like ... Read More

Although an older ship due for dry dock, the Miracle was still a lovely, clean, and inviting ship to be on. (I do hope that they replace the mattresses in the cabins, though, during the dry dock. They weren't very comfortable). The crew was amazing--helpful to elderly and disabled and very friendly and accommodating. The activities and entertainment was varied and enjoyable. Some of the ... We chose this cruise for the length (15 Days) and the destination (Hawaii). Boarding the ship in San Diego was extremely organized, once you got through security. The security line was pretty much a free-for-all. I read reviews about the ship being in bad shape. Yes, it's an older ship that was weeks away from dry dock, but the ship was in great shape! Hawaii 15 day question
By sunlite , May 26, 2015 in Carnival Cruise Lines

Has anyone done the 15 day Hawaii cruise from LA? I am considering but was wondering if the 8 sea days will be too much to handle. Do they do anything special or have different activities to do other than what is on the week long caribbean cruises? I am asking because the itinerary is 4 sea days, 5 days in Hawaii, then 4 sea days. Just seems long having 4 sea days in a row.
Looking for opinions from those who have done this. Aloha

Depends on whether you enjoy long lazy sea days or not - I love them, hubby hates them. Everyone is different.
My sister and I are on the 10 day Vancouver to Hawaii cruise in September - and we have 5 sea days in a row! We are looking forward to it, but hubby would not want to be on this cruise for sure! We are getting the Cheers package for drinks and most likely will lounge in the sun with boat drinks and read all day... probably do the afternoon teas they have. Just totally unwind! But I am sure there will be activities for those who want to do them. If you are not a fan of sea days, I would give that cruise a pass - I would totally do it, but I love lazy sea days...:D
We did it and DH and I loved it. But I agree, some people like sea days and some don't. We often cruise where we don't even get off the ship at a lot of the ports. We really enjoy slow days of just relaxing.
We are doing another 15 day Hawaiian out of LA in Nov of 2016.
I've done 2 Hawaii cruises and loved them both! I have a very hectic work life, so getting on board the ship knowing that I do not have to answer to anyone for anything for several days in a row is a amazing feeling! There is plenty to do, if you choose. And for my recent Carnival Hawaii cruise there were extra Hawaiian arts & crafts classes that were available, as well as a naturalist who gave talks in the show lounge every day. The Fun Times was absolutely packed with activities.
For myself, I loved that we had the opportunity for Sea Day Brunch so many times!
We always bring cards and dominoes for our days at sea, too. I am bringing Cards Against Humanity on the next one! Ole'!

We did this last December. Always had stuff to do and naturalist Michelle was outstanding. Didnt have brunch everyday but like everyother day.
Ship had propulsion problem and got there late and we didnt get to see all we wanted . Carnival was very good about giving us credits but on next trip this December will try Princess.

I was on the same sailing. Even though there were problems with the weather, the propulsion system and our itinerary was changed, I still had a blast! We were on a ship crossing the Pacific Ocean. Things happen. I feel that the staff went above and beyond for the passengers.
Staff was great and we had a very good time.
We left 2 hours late and with propulsion problems dont think we ever make first stop as scheduled, Everything had to break right to get there and it didnt and
most of what we planned went by wayside.
This is one of the Jouney Cruises with extra activities added. Check the Carnival website for details. We're doing the November 28 Hawaii cruise.

We were on the October cruise (with the same propulsion issues) and made all our ports. You guys had horrible weather. Mom and Sis were on your cruise (Rosefloater).
The first and last two days will be a bit rough crossing across the Alaskan Current. West Coast cruisers thought our cruise was smooth. Caribbean cruisers thought it was rough.
We didn't think the cruise had enough sea days. Could have had at least two more for us.
Wow thanks everyone! I love lazy sea days if i can soak up the rays by the pool but i have read that it is too cold on deck and most stay inside until closer to Hawaii, then it earms up.
Misplaced Floridan
We took the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise earlier this month. We had 5 days at sea, the first two were good pool lounging weather. The last three, not so much. Wasn't miserably cold, but not ideal for laying out in a bathing suite. I must say, that many sea days in a row was refreshing. You no longer answer to a clock. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when your tired, and answer to nobody. Wish I could hit the reset button and do it again!
Sea day is the perfect way to unplug. No stress, no cell call, no work, no pesky boss or customers and no schedule to keep. Just miles of ocean and total tranquility. Do whatever you like or simply do nothing if you like. Absolutely love it.
Rosefloater
On sea days, besides the naturalist, there was morning and afternoon crafts. Both sessions normally do the same craft, but on the Dec. cruise, morning did true Hawaiian crafts and afternoon did general crafts (think Party City) with a hawaiian theme. Heard people were at the early session about 1 hour before the time listed.
One of the sea days on the return, there was a ship building contest using discarded items from the islands.
We always bring playing cards and Phase 10. We also met some great people on the ship and were always getting together just to talk and pass the time.
My DH and I are booked for the Hawaii Journey cruise in January. I'm excited and looking forward to the sea days! Sounds like there will be so much to do and I can't wait! And here is some info you might be interested in. I have put this on a couple of other posts already and am thinking about starting a NEW THREAD with this being the subject. People have so many preconceived ideas about what a 'journey' cruise is. All they have to do is google Carnival Journey cruises and it goes into great details...
Carnival Journeys cruises will include: ACTIVITIES:
Authentic Eats: Partnering with local restaurants and chefs, Carnival said guests can enjoy onboard cooking demonstrations where local chefs will recreate their signature dishes and traditional cuisines from their country. PARTICIPANTS will also have an opportunity to dine at the chef’s restaurant ashore for a nominal fee and accompany the chef as he or she visits local markets for regional specialties.
“Local”-tainment: From calypso, soca and Goombay to folkloric entertainment, guests will get an up close and personal look at their destination through local entertainment performances taking place outside the ship or onboard.
Academy of Fun:[/u ] Through EDUCATIONAL enrichment sessions, Carnival’s shipboard experts will instruct guests in topics ranging from cooking and arts and crafts to digital photography and social media or celestial navigation. All of these activities will be performed in the “fun” style of Carnival.
Throwback Seaday: Carnival promises to set the “way back machine” to 1987 and recreate a fun day at sea with retro pool and deck games, old school DINING options like Baked Alaska and the gala midnight buffet, a white glove Captain’s celebration, popular movies from that era, a circa 1987 version of the Carnival Capers shipboard newsletter, and more.
Shipboard Team Member Connection: Here, Carnival Journeys participants can learn more about shipboard life through question and answer sessions hosted by the ship’s captain, cruise director, hotel director and others, held at different times throughout the voyage and providing an opportunity to engage and interact with the Carnival team in a casual setting. There will also be a show performed by the ship’s crew during the voyage.

Funny thing is we didnt think the weather was bad at all.

On our October cruise we had gentle rocking, we weren't sailing into weather. That was too much for some pax. They paid the PVSA fine and figured out their own way home.
Same itin, different pax. For our crafts period I was an early bird showing up 15 minutes beforehand.
Budget Queen
I've sailed this itinerary several times. BUT, definitely, NCL is the winner for Hawaii, which I have done more- 9 I believe? It also allows me to add a couple more weeks, easily in Hawaii.
Carnival- does have a ship naturalist on board who does do a few programs. Princess is superior with their activities and more "Hawaii" stuff to do- lecture programs, several "craft" activities, ending with a ukulele/hula concert. NCL also has Hawaiian Ambassadors on board. Carnival did not.
I'm bored silly on sea days, and not my preference, same with the yearly transAtlantics I do every year. My husband prefers them, so, these multiple sea day cruises are compromises for me (and for him, on all my preferences :) ) We do cruise very frequently, so it works for us, but, if your an infrequent cruiser, be certain the itinerary is a good fit, with what you want out of your cruise. These cruises- have little "Hawaii" time in my opinion.

Glad to see they are doing all this:)

Will be very interesting to compare Carnival and Princess for the sea days.
We did it with RCI in 2007 out of San Diego. I LOVE sea days, and in my opinion, they went wayyyyy too fast. There was plenty of time to do everything on board, or nothing at all. I spend most of those days doing absolutely nothing, but hanging out on the balcony with a pitcher of iced tea, and a book.... even watched a couple movies with the sound of the ocean outside the balcony.
It was the BEST waste of time ever without a care in the world. Ahh I need to do it again.
. These cruises- have little "Hawaii" time in my opinion.
Carnival & RC have one-way cruises that either embark or disembark in Honolulu. You can spend as much time as you want playing tourist in Hawaii before or after the cruise
We're sailing the November 15 day roundtrip out of Long Beach. We've been to Hawaii before, but the eight sea days will be a new cruise experience for us. Having a balcony will enhance that experience.
My only HAL cruise was 14 nights roundtrip to Hawaii from San Diego. I was mildly concerned about sailing a smaller ship (Zaandam) in mid/late November, but didn't have any problems (I swear by Ginger Root capsules).
I was also mildly concerned that I'd be bored to death with so many sea days.
By day 2, I had a routine. Breakfast, somewhere quiet to read, cooking or native Hawaiian talk, lunch, casino, happy hour, dinner, jazz club, casino, bed.
By Day 4, I decided I could do that for the rest of my life! :p
I currently have my 25th Carnival cruise booked and am hoping for either a Panama Canal or a Hawaii cruise for my Milestone.
Did 15 day Celebrity Century from San Diego, 5 days over 6 days back with
4 hours in Ensanada then SD next AM, one our favorite cruises out of 29.

What to pack for a long cruise to Hawaii :: 15 day cruise. packing list. honolulu cruise port.
So you are planning for a long cruise!
This will focus on a transpacific cruise to Hawaii.
So if you are going on a Hawaii cruise with Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, or another cruise line that’s around 15 days long, here are some ideas for you!
But even if you’re going on a Norwegian cruise starting and ending at the Honolulu cruise port, hopefully you will find some helpful tips here too on what to add to your cruise packing list!
Likewise, even if you’re going on a long cruise to somewhere that’s NOT Hawaii, hopefully you’ll find some cruise tips here for your checklist!
As you can imagine, the thinking process for a 15-day cruise to Hawaii is different from most cruises, and it can be different from most Hawaii vacations.
Naturally, this means that what to pack for your cruise is slightly different from packing for a Caribbean cruise , and it’s slightly different from packing for a one week Hawaii vacation !
So covered on this page:
- Extras of what to pack for a long cruise
Extras of what to pack for Hawaii
But still, there are some similarities, so take a look at some of these things of what to pack for your cruise and Hawaii vacation:
- What NOT to pack for a cruise
- What to wear on a cruise formal night
- What to wear hiking in Hawaii
- What to wear snorkeling in Hawaii
Extras of what to pack for a 15 day long cruise
If you’re trying to pack light (and even if you’re not!), a 15 day cruise doesn’t have to mean that you need 15 different cruise outfits!
You can get creative and mix and match, or you can wear the exact same outfit again! 😉
Remember, everyone is in the same situation as you. And really, everyone else is on vacation too, so it’s doubtful that they care much about what you wear!
Of course, with this comes the issue of washing your dirty clothes.
How much time do you want to spend doing laundry during vacation?
Probably zero! 😉 But if you do go the way of packing light, laundry will likely become a necessity.
In which case, you have a few options for laundry:
- Use the laundry room to wash and dry your clothes
- Put in a service to have your clothes washed and dried
- Wash and dry your clothes in your cabin
While the last option may seem like the one you want to avoid, in some ways, it can be the most convenient. (Aside from the hard labor part. ;))
You won’t have to worry about the potential of encountering lines in the laundry room (since everyone else also is trying to pack light). You don’t have to wait around for a washer or dryer to open up. And you don’t have to wait around the laundry room for your wash cycle or dry cycle to finish up. (Because if you leave and your cycle finishes up, you run the risk of an impatient fellow cruise passenger taking the liberty of removing your clothes from the machine!)
Tips for doing laundry in your stateroom
Wear quick-dry clothes on your cruise.
It would also be helpful if you packed along quick-drying clothes to wear during your cruise.
This can be helpful for several reasons:
- Doing your laundry
- Clothes to wear on sea days
- Clothes to wear on hot port days in Hawaii!
For laundry, quick-dry clothes are helpful because this way you won’t be waiting forever for your clothes to dry in your room.
Or even if you wash your clothes in the laundry room, it can be helpful because it means less time that your clothes need in the dryer!
So, what types of clothes dry more quickly?
Moisture-wicking shirt – also good if you’ll be doing lots of walking in hawaii.
This type of shirt is designed to wick away your sweat when you’re active. That also means that it’s quicker to dry than cotton after getting fully drenched in water from doing laundry! If you’re going hiking in Hawaii, these types of shirts will be good to wear hiking and can work on a cruise too, so win-win!
These are what moisture-wicking shirts are like.
Nike makes these types of shirts as tank tops too , which can be perfect for casual cruise attire on all those sea days!
Board shorts – also good if you’ll be going snorkeling in Hawaii
Boards shorts are designed to be quick-dry. If you’ll be doing any sort of water activities like snorkeling in Hawaii, once again, this can be good to wear snorkeling and can work on a cruise too, so win-win!
These are what board shorts are like.
Kanu board shorts like these for women can be perfect!
Quick-dry underwear
This type of underwear can not only be helpful staying comfortable to wear in the hot tropical climate that you’re going, but it can also be helpful for doing laundry quickly!
These are are what quick-dry underwear are like.
How to more effectively wash clothes in the sink in your room
To clean your clothes better, consider:
- First rinsing your clothes in plain water. This can help to get some of the dirt out of your clothes, and make it so you’re washing clothes in less dirty water.
- Fill your sink with water, and add in detergent of your choice like these travel packets as the water is filling up so it will bubble up. You may also consider taking a sink stopper , just in case your sink doesn’t have one.
- Scrub-a-dub-dub your clothes! 😉
- You may consider leaving your clothes soaking for 30 minutes or so.
- Scrub-a-dub-dub! 😉
- Drain the sink, and rinse your clothes! You may want to fill your sink with water again and then scrub-a-dub-dub again to get the soap out.
- Lay out a towel flat on your bed
- Lay a piece of your laundered clothing on top of it
- Press another towel on top of it to remove excess water
- Set your clothes out to dry! You may consider packing a simple clothes line for travel .
This can work generally for normal clothes, but of course you want to take care with clothes that require you to be more gentle.
Does this seem like a lot of work on vacation?!?! It’s not sooo bad… In the name of packing light for your cruise and avoiding time in the laundry room! 😉
Stay within the airline baggage weight limit
If you decide to go the ZERO LAUNDRY way and pack a ton of clothes, just don’t forget about the baggage weight! Most airlines consider anything over 50 pounds to be oversize luggage.
Here are some luggage sets you might want to take a look at! Check in one piece of baggage, carry on another onto your flight!
At home, you have your body weight scale that you can use to weigh your luggage. When you’re on your cruise and you’ve bought a bunch of stuff, you may consider using this travel luggage scale to take with you.
And you can use traditional space-saving methods to fit more into your suitcase like using packing cubes like these or compression bags like these and rolling your clothes. But again, watch out for the baggage weight!
Now, when it comes to what to pack for your destination of Hawaii, what should you put on your packing list?!
This is one thing you absolutely NEED for your cruise to Hawaii!
The Hawaii sun is no joke, and you’ll probably have even more sun on all those sea days as you cross half of the Pacific Ocean.
Have a look here for a few different sunscreen types for Hawaii.
After sunscreen, much of what to pack will depend on what activities you’ll be doing in Hawaii.
If you’re going on shore excursions, you’ll want to pay attention to the recommendations made in the tour descriptions.
If you’ll be doing lots of walking like hiking or sightseeing shore excursions
When you have sightseeing planned that involves a lot of walking, or if you plan on going on a hike or two in Hawaii, consider wearing hiking sandals.
These types of sandals make it so that you don’t have to wear shoes, which makes your feet more breathable. They also will generally take up less space than shoes in your suitcase, and can also mean you need to pack less socks. (One less thing to pack!) Hiking sandals can give you good traction compared to regular sandals or flip flops, and for most popular hikes in Hawaii , they can work out well.
And as mentioned earlier, moisture-wicking shirts like these can be perfect for long hot days that you’ll be sweating a lot.
For more ideas on what to pack for your Hawaii cruise when it comes to hiking, have a look at what to wear hiking in Hawaii .
If you’ll be doing water activities like snorkeling shore excursions
When you have snorkeling activities planned as a shore excursion or on your own, there are a few extra things you may consider aside from a snorkeling set ( check out a full-face snorkeling mask perfect for beginners! ) and your swimsuit.
In addition to the quick-dry board shorts like these that were mentioned earlier, one of the best things that you can pack when it comes to snorkeling in Hawaii is clothing that will provide you with UV protection!
Once again, that Hawaii sun is no joke!
Wearing a shirt like one of these that offers UV protection from the sun provides a much better guarantee that you will be well-protected. And you don’t have to worry about getting sunburn and continually re-applying sunscreen every 60-90 minutes. When you’re out snorkeling in particular, your entire backside is exposed if you’re wearing just a normal swimsuit. Although you do want to make sure you still apply sunscreen to your exposed skin, the shirt will cover the parts of your body that are most vulnerable to sunburn.
Another item that can be helpful for a cruise to Hawaii is to wear beach shoes like these . This can help to protect your feet from hidden rocks under the sand both on the beach and in the water. It can also be an added layer of protection if you accidentally hit your feet with coral reef. Cuts from coral reef can HURT! Not to mention there’s a risk for getting an infection.

Thanks to its abundant rainfall, Ketchikan is surrounded by some of the world's most lush wilderness. Its Tlingit Indian name, Kach Khanna, means "spread wings of the eagle." Chances are you'll see one of these magnificent birds perched atop a Sitka tree during your Alaska cruise to Ketchikan (Ward Cove).

Breathtaking and exciting, Icy Strait Point truly takes you where the wild things are. It’s one of the few places in the world where wildlife outnumbers the human population. A trip here certainly satisfies your taste for adventure. Juneau has been called “ Alaska's peak experience,” certainly due in part to its unparalleled glacier viewing from such places as Tracy Arm Fjord, the Juneau Icefields and Glacier Bay National Park. Kayak up one of the area's many protected waterways, go flightseeing, tour historic downtown or try your hand at panning for gold. The majestic Mendenhall Glacier lies nearly 12 miles outside Juneau, a treck worthwhile.

The Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. Its awe-inspiring, turquoise-coloured face towers nearly 400 feet tall - 250 feet of which are underwater - while its icebergs are often three or four stories high. At nearly six miles wide where the ice meets the ocean and 76 miles long, viewing this massive glacial mass is an experience not soon forgotten. As you cruise near the glacier, keep an eye out for the region's rich variety of wildlife, from bald eagles to harbour seals, orcas and humpback whales.
Although situated only approximately 60 miles from Anchorage, Whittier feels a world away. This small, secluded town - only accessible by land via the two-mile long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel - is nestled between soaring mountain peaks and the Passage Canal. Having been originally founded as a military facility during World War II, today, Whittier is your gateway to the famous Prince William Sound. The spectacular rugged coastlines and waterways are home to abundant wildlife, including bears, mountain goats, Dall sheep, whales, sea lions, otters and much more. Unleash your inner explorer on one of the many outdoor activities or enjoy a scenic boat tour along a portion of the sound.
