As others have said there were all kinds of people on the tour from all over the world and only some of them were fans. The lead host ( Carol ) was very engaging and was very tolerant of all the persons on the tour affording extensive insights into history and allowing everyone to have a lot of access. I would say this was outstanding value for money and I was surprised about how much I learned from the inside and also all the various areas we were allowed to go. Dates, opposition and venues for Newcastle United pre-season tour of Japan now confirmed

There had been ongoing claims that Newcastle United will be heading to Japan in pre-season.

With plans for a return trip to the United States said to be shelved, this alternative put forward.

Over in Japan they had reported dates, opposition and venues for a Newcastle United pre-season visit.

Now on Tuesday morning the club have confirmed details.

Playing at the Saitama Stadium on Wednesday 31 July, Urawa Red Diamonds v Newcastle United is the first friendly in Japan.

The Saitama Stadium is the largest football-specific stadium in Japan with a capacity of around 62,000 and it is where Urawa Red Diamonds play their home matches.

Then on Saturday 3 August, two weeks before the Premier League season kicks off, Newcastle will play Yokohama F Marinos

at the National Stadium in Toyko.

Newcastle United official announcement – 14 May 2024:

Newcastle United will travel to Japan in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season after being invited to take part in the ‘J.League International Series 2024 powered by docomo’.

As part of the 2024 event, the Magpies will arrive in Tokyo on Sunday, 28th July before taking on 2022 AFC Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds at the 63,700-capacity Saitama Stadium on Wednesday, 31st July. Kick-off is at 7:30pm (all local times).

Eddie Howe’s side will then face last season’s J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos – managed by former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell – at the impressive Japan National Stadium on Saturday, 3rd August. Kick-off is at 7pm.

Ticket information and further details – including plans for supporter events in Tokyo – will be confirmed in due course.

Supporters wishing to attend Newcastle United’s matches in Japan can register their interest in purchasing tickets here.

‘A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE’

Eddie Howe said: “We are pleased to be visiting Japan this summer. It’s an amazing country and it will be a unique experience for our players, staff and supporters.

“We will be taking on two strong teams at two special stadiums, and I’m sure they will present the type of physical tests we need at that time as we build towards next season.”

The J.League has attracted several heavyweights of European football in recent years, with Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Sevilla all previously travelling to the Land of the Rising Sun to participate.

Last year, clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Celtic also participated in their own friendly matches in Japan in preparation for their respective 2023/24 campaigns, while UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund have confirmed they will return to play in Osaka this summer as part of an Asian tour.

‘AN ICONIC STAGE’

Newcastle United’s chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, said: “We thank J.League and docomo for inviting the club to be part of what has become a hugely popular series in the Japanese football calendar.

“Newcastle United has fan communities in Japan and across Asia, and this is an exciting opportunity for the club play in front of local and travelling supporters on an iconic stage as we continue to grow our presence globally.

“Meanwhile, we want to connect and engage with partners both in the UK and in other key territories. As we step out in our new adidas kits, for example, we will be wearing a brand that has a long-established and special connection with Japanese sport and culture, and that presents unique mutual opportunities.

“For any pre-season tour, our aim is to support the needs of our teams during this crucial period and the players will train and play at elite facilities in Japan. We are continuing to work collaboratively on our overall pre-season schedule and hope to announce additional matches in the UK and Europe soon.”

Nottingham Forest v Liverpool FC - Premier League

Newcastle United announced on Tuesday, May 14 , that the Magpies will travel to Japan in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season after being invited to partake in the J.League International Series 2024.

The Magpies are coming to Japan! We will travel to the Land of the Rising Sun in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season after being invited to take part in the @J_League_En International Series 2024 with games against Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F. Marinos — Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) May 14, 2024

Newcastle United will face the 2022 AFC Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds and J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos. The Magpies will arrive in Tokyo on Sunday, July 28, and will play Urawa Red Diamonds at Saitama Stadium on Wednesday, July 31.

Eddie Howe’s lads will then take on Yokohama F. Marinos, managed by former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell, at Japan National Stadium on Saturday, August 3rd.

Howe expressed some fake enthusiasm about the tour, stating, “We are pleased to be visiting Japan this summer. It’s an amazing country and it will be a unique experience for our players, staff, and supporters.

“We will be taking on two strong teams at two special stadiums, and I’m sure they will present the type of physical tests we need at that time as we build towards next season.”

The J.League has hosted prominent European football clubs in recent years, including Manchester City , Bayern Munich , Borussia Dortmund , Chelsea, and Sevilla. Last year, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan , and Celtic also played friendly matches in Japan, preparing for their 2023/24 seasons.

You can add Newcastle to that behemoth list now, whatever that means.

Peter Silverstone, Newcastle United’s chief commercial officer, acknowledged the significance of the tour, stating, “We thank J.League for inviting the club to be part of this popular series in the Japanese football calendar.

“Newcastle United has fan communities in Japan and across Asia, and this is an exciting opportunity to play in front of local and traveling supporters on an iconic stage as we continue to grow our presence globally.”

Silverstone added that the tour aims to support the team’s pre-season needs, with players training and playing at elite facilities in Japan.

The club is also planning additional matches in the UK and Europe, which will be announced soon, per the club’s official statement.

Newcastle United announce post-season matches in Australia

Newcastle United will travel to Australia following the conclusion of the Premier League season in May to take on Tottenham Hotspur and the A-League All Stars in Melbourne.

The Magpies will kick off the city's 'Global Football Week - Melbourne' event at the world-famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) at 7:45pm (all times AEST) on Wednesday 22nd May, taking on a Spurs side managed by one of the city’s favourite sons, Ange Postecoglou.

In an historic double-header at the impressive Marvel Stadium in Melbourne's Docklands on Friday 24th May, Eddie Howe’s side will face the A-League All Star Men at 5:15pm before the inaugural A-League All Star Women's team hosts Arsenal Women at 8:05pm.

The post-season trip will mark Newcastle United's first visit to Oceania since July 2014, when the Magpies won the Football United Tour in New Zealand with victories over Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix.

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe said: "This is a great opportunity to showcase Newcastle United at two iconic venues in an iconic city as the club continues to grow globally.

" We are privileged to have so many incredible supporters around the world, and it's a chance to be able to play in front of many in Australia who wouldn't ordinarily get the chance to see the team.

" We look forward to engaging with our supporters in Melbourne and giving them the opportunity to feel closer to the club."

The matches were announced during a special event in Melbourne featuring current Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach and former Socceroo, Mile Jedinak, as well as Spurs' Chief Football Officer, fellow Australian Scott Munn.

They were joined by Australia's Minister for Sports and Tourism, Steve Dimopoulos, Western United captain and Australia international, Chloe Logarzo, Melbourne Victory forward, Daniel Arzani, and APL independent chair, Stephen Conroy.

Geoff Jones, Group CEO of event organisers TEG said: "What a huge moment in sport today with the announcement of the Global Football Week Melbourne, where we will see Tottenham Hotspur taking on Newcastle United at the MCG and a double header at Marvel seeing Arsenal Women taking on A League All Stars Women, along with A League All Stars Men vs Newcastle United.

"These games will bring a week of international football games and events to the fans here in Australia. It's something no sports fan would want to miss!"

Ticket information will be announced shortly.
