Australia

Australia is the world’s sixth-largest country, with only a tiny population for its size. This abundance of space means that koalas, wombats, kangaroos, emus and the truly exceptional platypuses still thrive. From the ancient eucalyptus forests and snowy peaks on the island of Tasmania in the far south to the red deserts plains and rainforests of the Northern Territory and Queensland, Australia’s natural treasures are plentiful. A stunning coastline encircles this bounty of beauty, home to a reef system so big that you can see it from outer space.

As you tour the country, look for the remnants of an ancient culture and settlers’ history. Aborigines have lived here in harmony with nature for over 60,000 years and continue to do so today. Early European and Asian settlers have tapped into the country’s bounty of natural resources, focusing on farming, fishing and mining. Today, Australia features in the Top 20 of the world’s strongest economies and is a peaceful cultural melting pot.

It is this more polished, vibrant side of Australia that awaits you in the modern and laid-back capital cities. As the national capital, Canberra has the country’s major national museums, government buildings and memorials, while Sydney has all the famous landmarks and the most popular beaches.

The sport-minded and artistic city of Melbourne is heaps of fun, while South Australia’s fertile valleys have turned Adelaide into a foodie’s hotspot. The immense state of Western Australia is a destination all of its own, home to wonderful wineries, deserted cattle stations and unspoiled beaches.

Brisbane and Perth both make for comfortable stopovers on Australia’s seemingly endless east and west coasts, with heaps of fun and fascinating attractions. Cruise to stunning nearby islands to swim with dolphins and turtles, spot whales or go fishing.

Winter is great for skiing in the southeastern states, especially on the slopes of Australia’s highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko.

Or, why not make the most of the dry season in the tropical capitals of Darwin and Cairns. Admire Aboriginal rock art, cruise crocodile-filled creeks, swim under waterfalls or snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. Before you leave, fly to Alice Springs in the deserted Red Centre to see the iconic Uluru (Ayers Rock) at sunset.

Throughout your Australian adventure, you will find wonderful places to stay, mouthwatering treats, and of course, that laid-back Aussie spirit that accompanies you every step of the way.

Australia`s seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere, with Winter occurring between the months of June through August, Springtime from September to November, Summertime runs between December through February, and Autumn is from March through May. Some of the best months to visit the country are between April and August, which is low season, and traveling prices for accommodations and flights are at their lowest, along with comfortable cooler weather patterns. Temperatures differ from the northern to southern states in Australia, with the north being the driest area, with hotter temperatures and humidity for most of the year, and the southern regions offer warm summers and cool winters. The wintertime in Oz is the peak tourist season throughout most of the country, especially in the warmer northern regions. Peak season tends to run from Christmas time through to the end of January when accommodations are fully booked months in advance, and the locals are enjoying their Christmas break. The northern states experience high season from June until August when the weather is warmer in the north and southern residents travel to escape the colder temperatures. October through March is the hottest time of the year, along with high humidity and frequent rainstorms. The north is intensely hot during this time of year. However, this time of year is considered to be the country`s low season when travel costs are generally lower and less crowded, if you can stand the heat then traveling during the summer low season is perfect. Cyclones can occur sometimes in Australia and are more common on the coast and in Cairns between November and May. In the west, cyclones can be more common in January and February. • Philippines

The Philippines is one of those destinations that is largely underrated amongst southeast Asia destinations. The country is justifiably famous for its beaches and is home to over 7000 beautiful islands. This diverse country offers a wealth of wonderful sights and experiences such as the white sandy beaches, crytal clear waters, gleaming emerald-coloured volcanoes and lakes, and impressive rice fields and mountains.

The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines is an archipelagic country in Southeast  Asia. It has 7,641 islands spanning more than 300,000 square kilometres of territory. The islands are broadly categorised under three main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The Philippines is the third largest English Speaking country in the world. It has a rich history combining Asian, European and American influences. Prior to Spanish colonisation in 1521, the Filipinos had a rich culture and were trading with the Chinese and the Japanese.

It’s tough to think of a more beautiful corner of the world than the Philippines, with white sand beaches, bath-temperature water, and incredibly friendly locals. The beaches are regarded as some of the best in the world, as are the diving opportunities, and the welcoming nature of the Filipino people is unwavering.

Book a holiday with Wendy Wu Tours and discover an amazing guided tour around the Philippines, with the perfect balance of culture, fun with a group of like-minded travellers and time to relax.

Frequently asked questions

Stay as cool as a cucumber in the hot and humid Philippines climate with lightweight and breathable clothing – think cotton and linen. Some quality insect repellent is worth its weight in gold if your visit coincides with the rainy season. If you’re planning on island hopping, don’t forget your swimsuit and a towel, sunscreen and a hat. A waterproof bag could also come in pretty handy if you’re planning on hitting the waterfalls.

With 7000 islands, the hardest part about any trip to the Philippines is deciding where to spend your time. Manila is widely regarded as the beating heart of the country, so it would be a travel crime not to spend a solid amount of time here. Other top contenders for your Philippines holiday are Cebu for its glorious beaches and incredible diving spots, Bohol for the Chocolate Hills and Boracay for the aptly named White Beach.

Life happens - we get it! Read more here .

The answer unfortunately isn’t as straight-forward as other destinations as it depends on where you plan to visit. The Philippines has four different climate zones, so best to do some more targeted research once you compile a rough itinerary. As a guide, the peak season kicks off in December and wraps up around May, leading into the rainy season (from June to November).

The beauty of the Philippines is that there’s a holiday to suit every kind of traveller, from the city dwellers looking for fun and adventure in the concrete jungle through to adventure seekers who prefer to fill their days chasing waterfalls, rafting, exploring and basking in the sun. History buffs will love wandering around Manila’s historic sites and foodies will be in a permanent food coma sampling the local cuisine.

Best time to visit philippines.

With a year-round warm climate, expect hot weather when visiting the Philippines at any time of the year. Sea breezes prevail in the coastal regions between November and February, so travel during this time if you wish to take the edge off the heat. January to May are considered the optimum times to visit though, as it is best to avoid the typhoon season which runs from July to October and involves heavy rain, flooding and high winds.

Geography and environment

Consisting of more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines archipelago is located in the South-East of  Asia , in between the South China Sea and the Philippine Sea. Being a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is home to many active volcanoes and a staggering amount of biodiversity, with thousands of plant, mammal, fish and bird species living on land and in the sea. As a very mountainous country, the Philippines is dotted with numerous peaks, which give way to deep valleys that are often studded with rivers and streams. Tropical rainforest occupies much of the landmass, with most of the population living on the low lying coastal areas.

Festivals and events

With a history dating back to 1210, this flamboyant festival is considered one of the Philippines' best. Think massive ostentatious costumes, loud drumming, floats of parading dancers, riotous crowds and a healthy dose of partying, and you've got Ati-Atihan—the Philippines' best shot at Rio Carnaval.

Grand Cordillera Festival

Baguio reserves the fourth last week of November to celebrate life and local culture with ethnic songs, dance, costumes and food. This festival spreads peace and tolerance and provides an interesting snapshot of the lives of the ethnic people of the northern Luzon area.

Iloilo City gets its chance to party with its own version of Ati-Atihan. City streets are decked out with colorful banners, street stalls sizzle with barbecued pork and chicken, and costumed dancers compete for glory.

Feast of Our Lady of Candles

This annual display of epic religious pageantry features a procession of the patroness, fiesta queen and court through the streets and town center of Jaro. Locals carry candles and a statue of the Virgin Mary to the town cathedral, where crowds of people wait. This spirited and vibrant festival is a great introduction to Filipino culture and religious celebrations.

Obando Fertility Festival

Want to see couples dance through the streets in aid of hopefully producing a child? Each year, the town of Bulacan holds this festival for childless couples who wish to produce children. Couples dance down the street to the local church, dance up the aisle and attend mass in honor of the three local patron saints.

Philippines Vacations, Tours & Travel Packages

australia tour package from philippines

Officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, the Philippines is an archipelago nation consisting of 7,641 islands in Southeast Asia. This may sound like a daunting number of islands, but only a few islands attract visitors on a Philippines vacation. The country is generally grouped into three main collections of islands: Luzon in the north, Visayas in the centre, and Mindanao in the south.

Over 100 million people live in the nation, making it one of the largest countries in the world. Manila, on the northern island of Luzon, is the nation’s capital, but the southern islands and their beaches and resorts attract most of the tourists.

Although Southeast Asian in origin, the country has a variety of Spanish and American influences due to it being a colony of both these nations throughout history. You’ll find that most people speak excellent English, while much of the local architecture reflects Spanish influences . Even the country’s name is taken from the Spanish King, Philip II.

What are the best island resorts to visit in the Philippines?

This is the most popular tourist destination in the country. Stretching only 7km long, Boracay is known for pristine beaches and the pleasures of an island paradise. White Beach has the most popular strip of hotels, restaurants, and shops, but you’ll find gorgeous resorts anywhere on the island. Boracay offers similar pleasures to Tahiti or Fiji but at more affordable prices.

More information on Boracay Vacations

This island offers the definition of untouched paradise. In the reaches of El Nido, known as the Philippines’ “Last Frontier,” you’ll find overwater bungalows that offer unrestricted access to the waters of the ocean. As well, if you want to go scuba diving, this is the place to be. The inland is also home to the karst rock formations of Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park.

What are the top cities to visit in the Philippines?

Founded by Spain in 1571, the capital of Manila comes off as a busy, noisy city on first impression, but it has plenty of attractions beyond its brusque initial appearance. The sweeping seafront promenade of high-rise hotels leads to Old Manila, which culminates in Intramuros, an old walled city that blends Spanish and American colonial influences with indigenous cultural traditions that have thrived for around 3,000 years. Aside from Intramuros, the city’s best attractions are Rizal Park, which is a great spot to relax for an afternoon, and Chinatown, which is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the world. You’ll find excellent and inexpensive shopping here.

Click for more information on Manila Tours

The oldest and second-largest city in the country, Cebu City, known as the ‘Queen City of the South’ is full of historical treasures. Amid all of its commercial activity, Cebu features historical sites, various museums, and churches. You will find the Roman Catholic Basilica Minore del Santo Nino here as well as the imposing colonial fort, San Pedro. But Cebu is also known for its good beaches and resorts on Mactan Island. Cebu mixes urban attractions with rest and relaxation. It is also home to many festivals throughout the year.

Where are top things to see in the Philippines?

  • Banaue Rice Terraces

This UNESCO World Heritage Site features some of the most gorgeous cultivated land in the world. Located on the north of Luzon, these terraces are carved onto the rocks on hilly mountain slopes and date back around 2,000 years. As you see the terraces cascade down the mountainside, you’ll be left speechless. There are few things as breathtaking to see on Philippines vacation packages. You’ll find the rice terraces featured in local currency and currently used by the local Ifugao people.

Chocolate Hills

Located in the province of Bohol, these 1,300 grassy hills turn a rich brown each dry season, transforming into a landscape of uniform brown hills that look like chocolate treats. Although they look too symmetrical to be nature, the Chocolate Hills are not manmade. Their geological origin is currently up for debate, with no consensus on their formation reached.

Mayon Volcano

Found on the southeastern tip of Luzon, Mayon Volcano is the largest volcano in the Philippines. Its perfectly-symmetrical cone shape makes it one of the most picturesque volcanoes in the world. However, it is still active, so be aware of current volcanic activity before visiting.

Puerto-Princesa Underground River

Located in the eponymous national park on the island of Palawan, this incredible underground river stretches through a landscape of karst rocks that recalls Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.

What is the best time to visit the Philippines?

The Philippines has a tropical climate that lasts all year round, so you’ll experience humidity and heat throughout the year. That being said, there are seasonal variations in the country. The wet season runs from May to October, while the dry season runs from November to April. The best time to visit is during the dry season, as you’ll forgo the heavy rains and overwhelming humidity of the wet season, although you won’t avoid heat in the Philippines. January and February are the coolest months, with temperatures averaging around 30°C, while March and April can get as hot as 34°C. When it’s not raining, you can expect lots of sunshine and high humidity. In the dry season, typhoons become a regular occurrence, with the earliest typhoons occurring in May. July and August are the wettest months and are best avoided.

What type of tours are available in the Philippines?

You can start with a stopover package in Manila and then combine it with a beach stay in Boracay, Palawan or Cebu. You can also add trips to Pagsanjan Falls, Corregidor Island and the Banaue Rice Terraces, the latter needing more time with a stopover.

Travel to the Philippines

There are regular non-stop flights to Manila from Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Transportation within the Philippines

The best way to get around on a Philippines vacation is by air. Most major destinations are served by air from Manila. There are no real rail services. Within the cities, taxis are plentiful and inexpensive. For the more adventurous, try a jeepney, which is a communal taxi which stops wherever the passengers want on a prescribed route.

BAGUIO CITY(PIA)--Collaborative and creative activities in Baguio City highlighted the bond between the Philippines and Australia  as both nations celebrated their 78 years of friendship built on mutual trust and cooperation.

Australian Ambassador to the Philippines HK Yu and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong led activities in various locations in the city on May 17-19.

Yu affirmed during a press conference at the Sierra Pines Hotel in Baguio City on Friday, May 17, that the Australian government maintains a robust historical bilateral partnership with the Philippines, encompassing economic, trade, investment, and defense cooperation.

She said  Australia has long been committed to strengthening the Philippines' defense capabilities, acting as an ally and friend in addressing terrorism issues, and ensuring maritime security in accordance with international maritime law.

Yu also highlighted that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Norman Albanese and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have recently entered into a bilateral agreement to elevate the Philippine-Australian relationship to a strategic partnership.

"The Australian government and the Philippine government are committed to elevating our relationship to a strategic partnership to achieve a region that is stable, peaceful, and prosperous for all of us," she stressed.

Following the press conference, the Australian Embassy, in partnership with local Chef Chavi Romawac, popularly known as the Baguio Mountain Man, hosted a reception for Baguio-based media practitioners featuring an Australia-Cordillera gastronomic experience.

Among the featured delicacies were Australian meats infused with "tapey"(native wine), dairy products, wines, fresh salads, and seafoods.

At the Friendship Day reception at the Baguio Country Club, Magalong spoke of the enduring bond between the Philippines and Australia, emphasizing the importance of people-people connections, cultural exchanges, and collaborative efforts across various sectors.

Pop-up weekend market featuring  Cordillera and Australian products, creative engagements, live performances, and informative sessions on travel and study opportunities, sustainability forum, educators' forum, and a journalists' reception were also highlighted  during the Friendship Day Festival and Market Fair held on May 18 at the SM Baguio City Atrium.

It also showcased local artists such as Eden Cawang, who conducted workshop on dot painting, and the Abiakak family who facilitated a creative crawl workshop. Products from Layad di Kordilyera were also exhibited.

The Philippines-Australian Friendship Day is being celebrated every 22nd of May in the Philippines by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No 1282 series of 2016.

With Baguio chosen as host to this important event this year,  Magalong issued Executive Order 50 declaring the period from May 16 to May 22, 2024  as “City of Baguio, Philippines and Australia Friendship Week”. (JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR)

MANILA, Philippines – Although under a new name, the newly christened Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball team is set to go through the same baptismal by fire as its 2024 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup journey kicks off against Australia on Thursday, May 23, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The lowest-ranked team in the five-country Pool A, Alas is out to prove it is better than its record with a new, star-studded core featuring a healthy mix of veterans and MVP-caliber young guns.

Led by captain Jia de Guzman, PVL MVP Sisi Rondina, and multi-awarded libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig, the Philippines is also set to parade an exciting lineup of prospects like UAAP MVP Angel Canino, star spiker Eya Laure, and former La Salle blocker teammates Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma.

The star power is there, but the chemistry is not quite so, as the team was formed mere days before the week-long tournament due to other club and school team commitments.

Can Alas ace its first assignment to set the tone or will Australia quickly send the Philippines down under the standings?

First serve is around 7 pm, depending on the finish of the other matches. – Rappler.com
