Our fishing packages are a great value with the best combination of service, quality, and experience to be found anywhere in Baja Mexico.

We have expanded our operation to offer fishing packages in La Paz with fishing in the Sea of Cortez and now in Magdalena Bay on the Pacific Ocean side of Baja California Sur

These packages can be custom tailored to the needs of novice anglers, expert anglers, families and large groups.

La Paz Fishing Packages

At Baja Pirates we strive to provide the perfect fit for each client. We offer a full range of options from daily rental of one of our captain operated boats to our Full Service Premium Fishing Package. Rentals and Fishing Packages can be for any duration, it only depends on your schedule.

Our Captain Operated Daily Boat Rentals includes:

• Transportation to and from the fleet from the La Paz area
• Conventional Fishing Gear
• American Style Boat (Center Console, Cruiser, or Fly Fishing Boat)

NOT INCLUDED IN DAILY RENTALS; Captain/Crew tips, Fishing Licenses, Box Lunch, and Bait

Our Center Console boats are ideal for two or three anglers. Our Cruisers are for parties of three or four anglers. Our Fly Fishing boats are Center Console boats specifically designed for fly fishing that have elevated casting decks, a special bait system, and special fly rod storage. Our boats are all American Style Boats that includes brands like, Triumph, Trophy, Parkers, Defiance and Sportfisherman Cruiser.

Our Standard Package includes:

• Transportation to and from the La Paz Airport.
• Accommodations at the Marine Waterfront Hotel.
• One of our boats the size to meet your party's needs, our Captain, All the Fishing Gear you will need ( Avet Reels, Ugly Stick Rods, top end terminal tackle and trolling lures and jigs)
• Fishing License at no additional cost
• Fish Processing including vacuum packing and freezing at no additional cost
• Breakfast and Lunch on fishing days
• Transportation to and from the fleet
• Souvenir cap and shirt

Transportation to and from Cabo is available at additional cost.

Our Standard Package PLUS All Meals:

This adds all meals to your stay. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are provided in this option. Dinners are offered from your choice of menu items in over 12 different restaurants around La Paz.

Our Premium Package:

Our Premium Package adds upgraded accommodations including Laz's best Bed and Breakfast or upgraded rooms at the hotel of choice. It also adds additional restaurants for dinner choices. On top of that, it covers the cost of your live bait for fishing and we throw in a new cooler to bring your fish home in.

Custom Vacation Packages

There are many great things to do and see in La Paz, and we can put together a custom package tailored just for you!

Magdalena Bay (Mag Bay) Fishing Packages

We offer fishing packages at Magdalena Bay from Augest thru December during the prime fishing season for the area. 

• Our packages include your transportation form the Loretto airport and back
• Housing at the Whales Nest cabanas outside of Lopez Mateos
• All meals cooked by a professional chef brought for you from La Paz
• Fishing on a 27' sea pangas
• All your fishing gear

Baja Pirates Booking Policies

The following policies shall apply to any and all Baja Pirates of La Paz Vacation/Fishing cancellations.

Depending upon when a reservation is canceled, a cancellation charge may apply. In most cases if a party elects to reschedule a reservation at a later time, the following cancellation charges will be waved.

We reserve the right to require additional funds if the advertised price of the vacation package increases prior to being rescheduled.

If we have booked your airline reservation and you require a time or date change there will be a reservation change fee of $150.00 plus any increase in flight cost imposed by the air carrier.

We highly recommend Travel Insurance to protect yourself from penalties assessed for canceling due to medical reasons for yourself or members of your party.

La Paz is a truly charming town. Beautiful white sand beaches, lots of wildlife, 300+ days of sunshine, and best of all… consistently great fishing.

Depending on when you visit, certain species will be “in season” and easier to target and catch. We’ll take your group to spots that are most productive. One day we might fish the seamounts for big amberjacks and pelagic species, and the next we might jig the reefs for grouper or snapper — it all depends on what’s biting and where.

The Destination

Baja Mexico is a peninsula beginning just south of San Diego, CA and stretches for nearly 1000 miles all the way south to Los Cabos. Fishing at Van Wormer Resorts is world-renowned as one of the best values in saltwater sportfishing today. Located in the East Cape region of Baja California Sur, Mexico, and situated on Baja’s Sea of Cortez, this area is regarded as one of the premier vacation and big game fishing spots in the world.

Baja Saltwater Fishing:

Van Wormer's sportfishing fleet offers quick access to world-famous fishing grounds teeming with five billfish species, plus dorado, tuna, wahoo, and over 80 other species. The area is also one of the few locations that yields marlin year-round. Sailfish are abundant during the summer months, along with dorado, yellowfin tuna, and occasionally some great wahoo fishing. Famous roosterfish fishing - many world records have been logged in the Baja area. East Cape Guides provide exclusive guide services for Van Wormer Resort guests. English-speaking captains with years of experience. You’ll receive on-the-water instruction, documentation of your catch in high-definition video and photos, and a Billfish Foundation release certificate for every billfish they tag and release on your behalf.

Fishing Facts

Van Wormer's sportfishing fleet offers quick access to world-famous fishing grounds teeming with five billfish species, plus dorado, tuna, wahoo, and over 80 other species. Boats:  Van Wormer Resorts has over fifty boats in its fleet—the most extensive sportfishing fleet in Mexico. 28' to 32' fiberglass cruisers and 23 to 25 ft. super pangas. Choose from many package options. Season:  Fishing takes off in late April and is dynamite through November. Species:  Sailfish are abundant during the summer months, along with dorado, yellowfin tuna, and occasionally some great wahoo fishing. Famous roosterfish fishing - many world records have been logged in the Baja area. Equipment:  Each boat is fully equipped with rods, reels, and tackle. A detailed packing list is included in our confirmation packet. Fishing Licenses:  are not included in the package and run $30.00 per week or $50.00 for the year (subject to change). Licenses are available for purchase at the Resorts. Fish Care:  Fish care and smokehouse services are available to prepare your catch for your trip home and range from $2.50 to $4.50 per pound.

Van Wormer's Two Hotel Options

Getting to the Lodge:

You can fly to either La Paz or Los Cabos. We recommend flying to Los Cabos because the drive from the airport to the Lodge is shorter than La Paz. The Resort works with a ground transfer company that is reasonable. Roundtrip from Cabo to the Lodge $100.00 p.p. for party of two, $53.00 p.p. for party of four (2023). It is about a 45-mile drive from Los Cabos to the Resort.

2024 USD Rates for Playa Del Sol

Playa Del Sol Packages do not include meals. Playa Del Sol Packages Do Not Include:  International flights, ground transfers from the airport to the resort, meals, fishing license ($15 per day or $30.00 per week), live bait ($25.00 - $35.00 per day), hotel gratuity, boat gratuity ($40.00 to $60.00 per super panga and $60.00 to $100.00 per cruiser, per day), East Cape Smokehouse fish care (vacuum seal option - $2.50 per pound and smoked fish - $4.50 per pound), 16% sales tax, 3% bed tax, Global Rescue, travel insurance, and anything not mentioned under inclusions. Prices are subject to change. As of December 2020, Fishing with Larry adds a 2.5% convenience fee to all credit card transactions. "Our fishing experience was awesome as the striped marlin were in and in good numbers. We averaged just less than one landed marlin per person per day during our stay, not counting several missed fish. We also spent time targeting other species. Some of the boats in the fleet came in flying between nine to 12 released marlin flags, an outstanding catch record for the timing of our trip. There was one particular instance where Rick, Ray, and I each hooked up, making for a striped marlin triple. It was utter chaos for a few minutes with three fish tail-walking behind the boat, and then one fish came unhooked. Two marlin jumping behind the boat was still very exciting. The day we fished from pangas, we targeted roosterfish and mahi-mahi, also known as dorado, which were plentiful. Within a short period of time, Nick landed his first rooster, a nice 25-pound fish. Because the ocean remained mirror calm, we made the decision to take advantage of another marlin day. Although none of our group targeted tuna, a number of the boats came in with tuna, and some also caught wahoo." - Eric Schoenborn

Entry requirements:  As of March 1, 2010, all U.S. citizens – including minors – are required to present a valid passport or passport card for travel into Mexico. This is the final stage of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. (WHTI) If a parent is bringing a minor child into Mexico unaccompanied by the other parent, you need a notarized letter from the parent not making the trip, giving permission to the traveling parent to bring the child into Mexico. Mexico requires non-U.S.-born Americans from certain countries to have an “Entry Visa” to enter Mexico. The list of countries changes often, and it is highly advised to consult your nearest Mexican Consulate for the most current list and applications.

Van Wormer Resorts Policies:

• A 25% deposit is due upon booking for the total amount of lodging. • All boats must be paid in full at the time of booking. REFUND POLICIES: For ROOMS:  Room deposit is fully refundable when canceled outside of 60 days of arrival. If the room is canceled between 60-30 days prior to arrival, the guest will be issued a credit towards a future trip. If the room is canceled inside 30 days prior to arrival date, the guest will forfeit the 25% deposit. * A 10% service fee will be charged on all refunds. A 10% service fee will not be charged on credit towards a future trip. For BOATS:  Once boats are booked and paid for, they are not refundable. If a boat is canceled outside of 60 days prior to arrival, the guest will be issued a credit towards a future trip. If a boat is canceled inside of 60 days prior to arrival, the guest will forfeit the full amount of the boat canceled. • Cancellation of a room or boat while at the resort is not permitted. If a room or boat is canceled while at the hotel, the guest will be charged the full amount of the room/boat. • In the event of strong winds, rough seas, or unsafe conditions resulting in the hotel’s cancellation of your scheduled charter, the boat dispatcher will try to reschedule your charter while you are here. If you are unable to reschedule your trip for whatever reason, no penalty will be assessed.
