For thousands of years, travelers have journeyed to Egypt to gaze in wonder at the ancient pyramids and temples left over from the time of the pharaohs, one of the greatest civilizations the world has ever known. More recently, visitors also go to soak up the culture or to do business in Cairo ; and to discover the idyllic beaches and world-famous reefs of the Red Sea. If a trip to Egypt is on your bucket list, one of the first decisions you'll need to make is when to go.

If weather is your primary concern, the best time to visit Egypt is during the northern hemisphere fall, winter or early spring (October to April), when temperatures are lower. To avoid the crowds at ancient sites like the Pyramids of Giza , Luxor , and Abu Simbel, try to avoid peak season (December and January). At this time of year, accommodation and tours throughout the country are typically more expensive. Budget travelers can get good discounts in the summer and shoulder seasons.

The Weather in Egypt

For many people, weather is a crucial factor in deciding when to visit Egypt. The climate is typically hot and sunny throughout the year, and there is very little precipitation south of Cairo. Even in the wettest places ( Alexandria and Rafah), it only rains on an average of 46 days per year. Winters are generally mild, with daytime temperatures in Cairo averaging around 68 degrees F. At night, temperatures in the capital can drop to 50 degrees F or lower. In summer, temperatures reach an average of 95 degrees F, exacerbated by intense humidity.

It is important to remember that many of Egypt's ancient sights are located in desert regions that remain hot despite the proximity of the Nile River. Climbing into an airless tomb on a 100-degree day can be draining. Several top attractions are located in southern Egypt, where it is even hotter than Cairo. If you're planning on visiting Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and/or Lake Nasser from May to October, make sure to avoid the midday heat by planning your sight-seeing for the early morning or late afternoon. Between March and May, the Khamsin wind brings thick dust and sandstorms.

Best Time to Cruise the Nile

With this in mind, the best time to book a  Nile cruise is between October and April. Temperatures are manageable at this time of year, allowing you to get the most out of day trips to iconic sights like the Valley of the Kings and the temples of Luxor. For the same reasons, travel during the peak summer months of June to August is not advised. Average highs for Aswan exceed 104 degrees F at this time of year, and there isn't a lot of shade to offer respite from the midday sun.

Best Time to Enjoy the Red Sea

June to September is an excellent time to visit the Red Sea beach resorts. Despite being the peak of summer, temperatures on the coast are much cooler than in the interior. Average summer temperatures at popular beach resort Hurghada  hover at around 84 degrees F, while the sea temperature is a balmy 80 degrees F—perfect for snorkeling and  scuba diving . In July and August it's essential to book well in advance, as resorts can get busy with vacationing Europeans and Americans; and with wealthy Egyptians seeking to escape the heat of Cairo.

Best Time to Visit Egypt's Western Desert

Summers in the desert should be avoided, as temperatures at destinations like Siwa Oasis  routinely exceed 104 degrees F. During the depths of winter, nighttime temperatures can plummet to just below freezing, so the best time to visit is halfway between the two in either spring or fall. February to April and September to November are the optimum times temperature-wise, although spring visitors should be aware of possible sandstorms as a result of the annual Khamsin wind.

Traveling to Egypt During Ramadan

Ramadan is the Muslim holy month of fasting, and the dates change every year according to the dates of the Islamic calendar. Tourists are not expected to fast when visiting Egypt during Ramadan. However, shops and banks tend to close for much of the day, while many cafés and restaurants do not open at all during daylight hours. At night, there is a generally festive atmosphere as eating and drinking resume. Toward the end of Ramadan, there are several festivities that are fun to experience and observe.

Spring is a nice time to visit Egypt, as temperatures are typically quite moderate. Some visitors may want to avoid the Khamsin wind season (March to May) as visibility is often impaired by sand and dust storms. This is a particular concern for keen photographers. Accommodation and tour prices are typically cheaper than they are in the peak winter season.

Events to check out:

• Abu El Haggag Moulid, a five-day carnival in Luxor, typically takes place in the spring, a month before Ramadan. The festival celebrates a 13th-century Sufi leader, Yusuf Abu Al Haggag.
• People of Egypt celebrate Sham El Nessim to welcome the season of spring in the country. It usually takes place in April, after Coptic Easter.

Temperatures are often sweltering in summer, especially in Upper Egypt near Luxor. But traveling during this time has its perks: you can see Egypt without swells of fellow tourists, leaving you in peace at some of the country's most revered monuments. Ramadan typically falls during the summer months; beware that some attractions may close earlier than usual.

• Muslims end the long month of Ramadan with Eid al Fitr, a religious festival. 
• Wafaa Al Nil is an ancient festival devoted to the Nile River.

Like spring, fall brings cooler temperatures and affordable prices. Heat can sometimes last into October, but crowds are still thin, making this a great time to visit popular monuments. If you're planning a visit to the beach, this is an ideal season to do so as the Red Sea is still warm and uncrowded.

While winter can mean nice weather, it's also the high tourist season. Attractions will be more crowded, and hotel prices can skyrocket. There is occasional rain and some cities, like Alexandria, will be quite damp.

• On January 7, the Coptics of Egypt celebrate Coptic Christmas. At midnight, worshippers gather en masse and enjoy a traditional fatta meal together.
• The Abu Simbel Festival is held on February 22 each year in celebration of the eponymous temple.
• Formerly held in the summer, Egypt Art Fair is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in the country.

The best time to visit Egypt is fall (from October to November) and spring (from February to April). The weather is mild and you can comfortably explore all of the outdoor desert sites without baking in the sun.

If you're visiting sites like Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, or Luxor, summer temperatures are dangerously hot and you should avoid visiting. However, the coastal area around the Red Sea is much milder and you have the beach nearby to cool off.

December and January are the peak tourist season. The temperatures are mild but tourist attractions like the pyramids or tombs will be very crowded.

Egypt is a destination that features on many travelers' bucket lists, and for good reason. But deciding on the best time to visit Egypt depends on your itinerary. Not only is it home to one of the world's most famous and intriguing archaeological sites , its year-round sunshine, world-class diving, and abundant culture continue to entice travelers the world over. Here's what you need to know when planning a trip to Egypt.

When is the best time to visit Egypt?

It depends. If you want to relax on the beaches of Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh , you’ll likely want sunshine and warm temperatures. The months either side of winter, October and November or March and April offer the best conditions, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, occasionally creeping into the low nineties.

If you’re planning to explore the busy streets of Cairo , you’re better off waiting for the cooler temperatures that December and January bring. Like much of the Middle East and North Africa, Egypt experiences warm and dry weather year round, although coastal areas do see rain and milder temperatures during winter.

When is the best time to visit Egypt to see the Pyramids?

The Pyramids of Giza are Egypt’s most-visited attraction, so naturally, many travelers plan their itinerary around a stop here. If you want to make the most of exploring the major archaeological sites at this complex, including the three pyramids of kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure and the Great Sphinx, it’s best to avoid the summer months, when temperatures regularly reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

The months between December and February are the coolest, with highs of around the high sixties. However, evenings can get chilly during these months, so pack accordingly. This is also a popular time for organized group tours , so attractions can get crowded. March and October are good options, still offering cooler temperatures, with fewer tourists around.

When is the cheapest time to go to Egypt?

It’s always cheapest to travel during the off-season, which would fall between May and August across Egypt. These months bring about harsh desert summer temperatures, so if you are planning to travel in summer, you’re better off heading to coastal areas , which are slightly cooler. On the plus side, this is the best time to find deals on flights and hotels, when occupancy rates are lower. The next best option are the shoulder months, so look for deals in September or late April.

When is the busiest time to visit Egypt?

Peak tourist season across Egypt lasts from mid-October to mid-February, so expect major attractions to be busy during these months. However, Egypt is particularly busy around the traditional festive season in late December, as well in early January, when many in Egypt celebrate Orthodox Christmas on January 7.

When is the best time for diving in Egypt?

Egypt’s Red Sea coast has long been a haven for scuba divers , who flock to these waters to explore its thriving coral reefs which are home to more than 1,200 underwater species. For divers keen to spot the likes of hammerhead sharks and manta rays, June to September offers the best chance, when water temperatures are at their warmest.

Tourism in Egypt is bound by the seasons. While only the hardiest want to troop through temples during the scorching heat of July and August, Egypt’s mild winter brings in flocks of visitors to flop on the beaches, gawk at Giza’s pyramids and cruise the Nile.

A happy medium can be reached by traveling during the shoulder seasons of autumn and spring when the press of fellow travelers isn’t as intense at major sites and daytime temperatures hover at manageable levels.

March to May plus September are the best for avoiding crowds

Traveling during shoulder season often brings the best of both worlds. Major monuments aren’t as packed and there’s usually an accommodation bargain or two to be had.

Daytime temperatures can still be very hot in May and September so shoulder season travelers sensitive to heat (and families traveling with little ones) would do well to aim for March, April or October instead.

The weather is generally bearable so you can spend an entire day outside from about late-September into October. This is really Egypt’s best travel season.  It's also a good time for diving. The light along the Nile is at its most soft and clear – great for photography in Luxor and Aswan – while in the Western Desert oases, the date harvest is in full swing.

The sand-loaded khamsin wind begins blowing in March, and the resulting sandstorms can disrupt travel and occasional ground flights; prevent feluccas from sailing in Aswan; and make sightseeing impossible due to low visibility. Add an extra day or two into your itinerary in case plans go awry.

In April, the khamsin can still be an issue, but when it isn’t blowing this is a near-perfect month for Egypt travels. The warmer evenings make it particularly good for overnight felucca trips from Aswan and camping in the White Desert.

May is usually a good time for package-deals to resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna and Marsa Alam. 

June through August is the best time to go diving in Egypt 

The weather switches to sweltering as average high temperature hit 108°F (42°C). Luxor’s temples and tombs open at 6am so it’s still possible to beat the heat by being an early bird. 

Expect to be greeted with an ironic “Welcome to Alaska!” in Aswan. Unless you’re made of extremely tough stuff, it’s best to skip the Western Desert.

Summer is when serious divers head to Sharm el-Sheikh and the Red Sea coast. They’re willing to take the baking heat on land in return for the payoff of calm, warm sea conditions and fantastic underwater visibility. Although Egypt can be dived year-round.

Just to flip the low season rule, summer is the peak domestic-holiday period along the Mediterranean coast as half of Cairo decamps to the beach. Yes, it’s still boiling in Alexandria but at least there’s a breeze.

October to February is best for milder weather in Egypt

In the Northern European winter, many travelers (and tour groups) escape the gray skies back home to bask on the beaches of Sharm el-Sheikh and the Red Sea coast  this time of year.

You'll find decent weather across most of the country, although in Cairo and Alexandria  be prepared for rain. If you’re here to delve into Luxor’s glut of Pharaonic riches, winter brings blue skies and pleasant daytime temperatures to make long days of rambling around ancient ruins a pleasure rather than an endurance test.

This is also the most popular season to head into the Sinai or the Western Desert for outdoor adventures (from hiking to camel trekking), or to bask in the winter sun between learning to dive in South Sinai and along the Red Sea coast . Divers should note that sea conditions can get choppy on boat dives around December, but shore dives are generally fine.

In Cairo , the cooler weather makes November a good bet for long strolls to discover the capital’s madrassas and mosques. Be aware, it will get colder than you probably expect (especially else after dark) so you also need to pack something warm. Finally, expect high accommodation prices during the winter peak season, especially around Christmas and New Year. 

Can I travel in Egypt during Ramadan?

The dates for Ramadan (the month when Muslims fast during daylight hours) change annually as the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar year.

If you’re traveling during Ramadan, be aware that tourist sites, along with most shops and services, operate shorter hours and many non-tourist orientated restaurants and cafes only open after sunset. 

In Egypt, non-Muslims are not expected to observe the fast but visitors should politely show respect for fasters by being discreet – don’t blatantly swig from your water bottle or munch snacks on the street.

Egypt Winter Months

Winter in Egypt is high season because the weather is cooler than other months of the year yet still beautifully sunny.

It’s a favorite spot for winter sun-seekers, and especially for lovers of Egyptology.

While the desert gets cold at night – bring a light jacket – the ruins, temples, and tombs of the Ancient Egyptians are best enjoyed in cooler climes when you won’t work up too much of a sweat.

December in Egypt

December is one of the most popular times to be in the country, and if you want to avoid the crowds, it’s never the best time to visit Egypt.

It’s sunny across the country, although the Mediterranean coast can be hit by the odd storm or rainy day.

It’s still hot, with temperatures hovering in the mid-twenties in most destinations. 

The Red Sea beach resorts are always popular over Christmas and New Year, as families head here from Europe looking for winter sun and a hot place to spend their holidays.

You’ll be paying high season prices, and sharing the beaches with a lot of other tourists.

Head south to the famous cities of Luxor and Aswan, and take a Nile River Cruise between the two.

While it’s definitely going to be busy, because the weather is perfect for exploring archaeological sites all day, it’s the best time to be in this part of Egypt. 

January in Egypt

January is likely to be just as busy as December, although visitor numbers will definitely start to fall off towards the middle of the month after the rush of the holiday season is over. 

If you want a winter sun getaway then head to the Red Sea for beaches, snorkeling, and diving.

If you’re a fan of all things Ancient Egyptian, then the weather is perfect for exploring iconic places such as the Pyramids of Giza or the Valley of the Kings, but you’ll be sharing the iconic sights with a lot of other tourists.

Culturally, this is the best time to visit Egypt if you’d like to learn more about the Coptic Christian communities.

January 7th is the most important day in the Coptic calendar, as this is when they celebrate Christmas. Head to the cities of Cairo or Alexandria to see and experience more.

February in Egypt

Compared to December and January, February is a lot quieter and it’s a great time to explore Egypt if you’re a fan of shoulder season travel.

The weather is getting much warmer already, but you might catch a few of the last winter storms, although these are a rarity even on the coast.

This is a great time to explore southern Egypt. Take a Nile River cruise from Luxor to Aswan, and enjoy the archaeological sites before it gets too hot. The crowds won’t be quite as large as the previous two months. 

Time your visit to coincide with the Abu Simbel Festival, held each February at the famous Abu Simbel Temples.

These are found on the Sudanese border, just a short journey from Aswan, and were built thousands of years ago by Ramesses II. The festival is a throwback to the region’s thousands of years of history and culture.

Egypt Spring Months

The weather really starts to warm up across Egypt as you leave winter behind and enter the spring season.

The Nile River is green and verdant after the winter rain, while there are many festivals and celebrations across the country.

This is a great time for shoulder season travel, before the busy summer months, but be aware of when important religious events such as Ramadan are, as this generally tends to happen around April and May.

March in Egypt

March is another shoulder season month, and it’s a great time to visit Egypt if you want to escape the crowds.

On the Red Sea, you can score cheap deals on flights and all-inclusive packages. With warmer waters and lots of sunshine, it’s really not a bad time lounge on the beaches or to enjoy some Scuba diving. 

You’ll have fewer crowds in the south as well, but remember that the desert is starting to heat up in March.

In reality, it’s a good time to visit the temples and pyramids before the heat and the crowds of summer.

April in Egypt

April can be a mixed bag in terms of visitor numbers because over the Easter holidays you’ll find plenty of tourists arriving.

Try to avoid these weeks if you want to visit in April.

Travel south to Luxor and Aswan, or stick around Cairo and explore the Pyramids of Giza and other famous ancient sites, because, after this, visitor numbers will start to rise again, as will the heat.

Alexandria is glorious in April, with lovely Meditteranean weather, sunny days and clear skies.

Visit the famed Biblioteca Alexandria and the many catacombs and ruins that date back to the Greek and Roman era, when the city was one of the most important in the ancient world. 

May in Egypt

May is the last quiet month before the summer high season begins in earnest in Egypt, and oftentimes, this is the month when Ramadan is likely to fall.

This can be a unique festival to witness, although non-Muslims will need to be aware of the rules and local customs during the holiday so as not to cause offense.

Weather-wise, it’s getting much hotter in May, and temperatures are rising exponentially.

It’s not a good time to be in the desert, but you will enjoy the sun and cooling winds that are found on the Mediterranean coast and the Red Sea. 

Egypt Summer Months

Summer is the high season and it’s the best time to visit Egypt if you’re looking for a beach holiday.

It’s not the best time if you can’t handle the heat and the crowds. It’s hot and it’s busy, all through summer.

June in Egypt

June is the start of peak season travel in Egypt, and prices for flights, accommodation, and tours will begin to go up.

It’s not quite as busy as July and August are going to get, so it’s a good time to visit the resorts on the Red Sea before the huge crowds arrive.

With warm waters, it’s a great time to snorkel and scuba dive on the Red Sea too, or you could even dive below the waves of Alexandria Harbour.

This is where you’ll find the uniquely preserved remains of Cleopatra’s Palace many centuries after it was lost below the waterline. 

July in Egypt

July is busy because this is when the school holidays usually begin in earnest across Europe.

It’s guaranteed to be hot, and in the desert, temperatures will routinely rise well above 40 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day. Even the night time can be unbearably hot.

The heat doesn’t stop people visiting, although admittedly most vacationers tend to stick to the resorts, where you’ll find busy beaches all through June. 

August in Egypt

August will be just as busy as July because it’s still peak season and it’s the summer holiday season in Europe.

Prices will be higher than other times of the year, and beaches and tourist attractions will be crowded.

It’s going to be too hot to be anywhere other than the beaches though, so if you are visiting Egypt in August then brave the crowds and stick to the Red Sea resorts.

This way you can cool off in the swimming pools or in the sea. 

Egypt Fall Months

The fall season is a great time to explore Egypt’s interior, as the heat starts to dissipate.

Compared to summer, it’s going to be incredibly quiet through the fall months, and it’s a great time to grab a great deal on flights and tours. 

September in Egypt

If you can wait out the summer and travel in September, then this could be the best time to visit Egypt.

The weather is still undeniably hot, but things are starting to cool down, especially away from the coast. 

You can head south to explore the ancient sites around Luxor or cruise along the Nile River to Aswan and the Abu Simbel Temples.

October in Egypt

October is quieter than September, and it’s much cooler too. This is the perfect time to start visiting Egypt’s most famous attractions, and places that will soon become busy again in the winter.

November is the last shoulder month before the high season starts again in December.

It’s much cooler in November and it’s a beautiful time to explore Egypt, as you’ll avoid the worst of the summer heat and miss the worst of the winter crowds.

Take the opportunity to visit iconic destinations and famous tourist attractions, or get a steal on a resort on the Red Sea.

After this, it’s only going to get busier.

If you are trying to work out the best time to visit Egypt, the advice in this travel post will help you plan the perfect trip.

Egypt is a popular destination steeped in history and culture with some of the world’s most iconic ancient wonders. However, you don’t want to be wandering around the Abu Simbel temples or the Valley of the Kings in the sweltering heat – it’s just no fun.

But whether you dream of a Nile River cruise, exploring the Giza pyramids, or simply soaking up the sun in one of the Red Sea resorts, there’s a perfect time to experience it all, and that information is in this Egypt weather guide.

So, grab your sun hat and let’s dive into the best time to visit Egypt.

My Favourite Time of Year to Visit Egypt

I have visited Egypt three times so far and will no doubt return in the future. I travelled to Sharm el-Sheikh in April and October to make the most of beach time, snorkelling and scuba diving, and the weather was fabulous. My last visit to Hurghada and Luxor was also in the peak tourist season of April.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t as warm as is customary, and while my holiday coincided with the time when the annual scirocco hot winds and sand storms can arrive, I encountered the opposite. We had cold winds and sat on our sun loungers wearing hoodies. It is hard to believe it’s not always hot in Egypt, but it is another sign of climate change (according to the staff in our resort).

I took a 2-day tour from Hurghada to Luxor to see the temples and tombs, and the temperature was warmer than at the coast. However, in my photos, you can see me wearing a denim jacket because I am always cold no matter where I am, even in places like Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Desert!

Walking around the temples in Luxor and visiting the Valley of the Kings was very pleasant, but I kept my hoodie on as the tombs were a little chilly. And while visiting the Pharoah’s tombs in April was busy, we could still take lots of photographs (yes, it is allowed without a flash) and spend time immersing ourselves in thousands of years worth of history without feeling rushed.

If you’re looking for the optimal time to visit Egypt, you’ll want to plan your trip during the cooler months, from October to April. During this popular time of the year, Egypt enjoys sunny days with milder temperatures, making outdoor exploration of the historic sites much more comfortable.

Egypt Weather Overview

• October to November: This is considered the shoulder season, with temperatures in October ranging from 30°C (90°F) and dropping to 20°C (70°F) in November. It’s ideal for sightseeing, as the summer heat has subsided, but it’s not too cold to enjoy the outdoors.
• December to January: The winter months in Egypt bring cooler temperatures, but it’s still quite pleasant for tourists. Daytime temperatures hover around 15°C to 20°C (60°F to 70°F), but be prepared for cooler evenings.
• January to March : Egypt typically experiences a mix of weather in these months as the country moves into early Spring. It can be sunny and warm, with pleasant daytime temperatures, but can also turn a little chilly with occasional rainfall. Temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C (70°F to 80°F). As a result of the favourable climate, hotels, cruises, and tourist sites tend to be busy with visitors, especially during the New Year period.
• March to April: Springtime is the high season and is the ideal time of year to visit Egypt, with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 35°C (70°F to 100°F). The landscape is lush and green after the winter rains, making it an excellent time for photography.

What to Wear in Egypt in Spring and Autumn

Consider comfort and modesty when packing for your Spring or Autumn Egyptian adventure. Here’s a handy checklist of what to wear:

• Lightweight Clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Long-sleeved tops and lightweight bottoms are perfect for keeping cool while protecting your skin from the sun. Pack a shawl to wrap around the shoulders in the evenings.
• Sunhat: Make sure to keep your head covered from the sun.
• Sunglasses and Sunscreen: The Egyptian sun can be quite intense, so don’t forget your shades and a good sunscreen with high SPF. Factor 30 and above is recommended.
• Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so bring comfortable, closed-toe shoes for exploring archaeological sites and cities; otherwise, you will end up with a foot full of sand!

Weather in Egypt from May to September: Surviving the Egyptian Summer

While Egypt is captivating year-round, the scorching summer months from May to September can be challenging for tourists. If you’re prepared to brave the heat, you can still enjoy Egypt during this time. However, be ready for daytime temperatures soaring above 35°C (95°F) and sometimes even hitting 45°C (120°F) in Egypt’s hottest months.

April to May: During these months, you’ll find the climate starting to hot up, from 25°C to 35°C (80°F to 100°F). April is one of the best times of the year to visit Egypt. It is worth noting that, occasionally, Egypt experiences the Khamsin Wind, a brief but intense sandstorm of scorching hot winds, sometime between April and May. However, fear not, for this natural phenomenon rarely disrupts the rhythm of daily life.

The festival of Sham el-Nessim takes place on Easter Monday, following the Coptic calendar, and is a cherished tradition observed across Egypt. It’s a time when Egyptians come together to celebrate the rebirth of nature and the spirit of this ancient land.

Hottest months in Egypt

June to August: These months are the height of summer in Egypt, where temperatures can soar to impressive heights between 35°C and 45°C (100°F to 120°F) and sometimes even higher. Fewer travellers brave the heat during these months, leaving an opportunity to experience Egypt’s marvels with fewer crowds visiting the iconic sights. This is often a good time to get a bargain as prices for flights, hotels, tours, and day trips can be substantially lower than in peak season.

September to October: Temperatures in September have not changed too much from the summer season; however, cool sea breezes make it more bearable if you are planning a beach break along the Red Sea coast in Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada or one of Egypt’s other popular seaside resorts. As the months progress, the temperature starts to drop slightly from the heady 45°C (120°F) to a more manageable 30°C (90°F)

What to Wear in Egypt in Summer’s Extreme Heat:

• Lightweight and Breathable Clothing: Loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing is a must to stay cool in the blistering heat.
• Sun Protection: Sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are essential for protection against the intense sun.

I realize this question has probably been asked many times but I could not find it. Anyway, we are wondering when is the best time to visit considering weather, length of daylight, avoidance of holidays, etc. Thank you very much in advance!

Mid October till mid Nov or mid Jan till March. Avoid new year eve and xmas time coz of the crowds

Mid October to early December days can still be hot but comfortable and nights begin to chill from late October but it’s a good time to travel.

December January can still have warm days but cold nights.

February to end of March is my favourite time warm days coolish nights getting warmer as the months progress, April stats getting hot.

Obviously the further south you travel the hotter, but drier it becomes.

May to October are hot, humid in Cairo but out of the main tourist seasons places are less busy!

With all the Pcr and travel issues I would say perhaps the best time is once this pandemic eases but then more people will be travelling so it’s a balancing act!

Westerly- Did you experience sand storms during those months? I’ve read where they can be a problem then.

I like mid March, nice hot days and cool nights.

The only disadvantage that we experienced while visiting in April was the smoke from burning sugar cane stocks. Made the mornings grey. But over all very nice.

Next time we visit Egypt, when COVID is a thing of the past will be in the fall to see what it is like then. But spring makes for a nice time to visit.

NFL draft highlights: Caleb Williams goes No. 1 to Bears; Offensive picks dominate first round

The Chicago Bears selected Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft Thursday in Detroit. He was followed by the Washington Commanders’ selection of LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and the New England Patriots’ choice of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. 

Six quarterbacks — Williams, Daniels, Maye, J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix — were taken in the first 12 picks. In total, 23 offensive players heard their names called, the most in NFL draft history. 

Williams, the consensus top prospect, threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions last season. He won the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football the previous season after he took the Trojans from a four-win team to an 11-win team. Williams threw for 4,075 yards, 37 touchdowns and only four interceptions over 13 games in 2022.

The Bears were able to select Williams thanks to a major trade ahead of the 2023 draft. Chicago — which owned the No. 1 pick at the time — sent it to the Carolina Panthers in return for receiver DJ Moore, 2023 first- and second-round picks, a 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick. That 2024 first-round pick would later become the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft. 

Williams joins a retooled Chicago team that traded for six-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen and signed running back D’Andre Swift this offseason. The Bears also have rising stars in Moore and tight end Cole Kmet.

The Commanders selected LSU star Daniels at No. 2. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback won the 2023 Heisman Trophy after one of the most electrifying seasons in college football history. He threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions while adding 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. 

Maye was selected No. 3 by the Patriots. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, he boasts the prototypical size for the position and has drawn comparisons to Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert. Maye — the 2022 ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Player of the Year as a sophomore — threw for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season in his junior year. 

The biggest shock came at No. 8, when Michael Penix Jr. was selected by the Atlanta Falcons. Not only was that higher than most had expected the Washington quarterback to be taken, it also came from a team that signed veteran signal-caller Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed this offseason. 

“It was a big surprise. We had no idea this was coming,” Cousins’ agent, Mike McCartney, said in a text to the NFL Network. “The truth is the whole league had no idea this was coming. We got no heads up. Kirk got a call from the Falcons when they were on the clock. That was the first we heard. It never came up in any conversation.”

“I just want to say, Detroit, y’all got a star, man,” Arnold said at the draft held in Detroit. “Hey, I’m home, man! I’m home!”

The crowd roared. Asked by Kaylee Hartung on the NFL Network whether the Lions have announced Super Bowl aspirations and what would he do to help them achieve that, Arnold barely paused.

“You already said it: I’m going to help them win a Super Bowl!” he said.

“Listen to that!” he said as the crowd cheered.

Packers add OT Jordan Morgan at No. 25

Morgan, an OT from Arizona, will be tasked with protecting Jordan Love next season in Green Bay. His one knock is he has shorter hands compared to other top lineman prospects.

Morgan was named AP first-team All-Pac-12 last year.

New England Patriots pick Drake Maye reflected on his childhood in a home with four boys, all of whom excelled at college sports, after the quarterback was chosen with the third pick.

"Youngest of four boys, the youngest one had to get beaten up on and then all of the above," he said on the NFL Network after he was being picked. "I just try to keep my head down, keep working ,and it ended up paying off."

"Those are three of my best friends, and I just can’t be thankful enough to be the youngest," Maye said.

Eminem opened up the draft with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Which wide receiver will go first? 

For much of the past year, Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has been the presumptive top wideout available. It’s still likely he is the first pass-catcher off the board, but the stock of LSU’s Malik Nabers and Washington’s Rome Odunze has reportedly risen enough this offseason to make it a competition. 

Harrison, the son of longtime Indianapolis Colts star receiver Marvin Harrison, is arguably the greatest receiver in Ohio State history. He won the Biletnikoff Award last season as the most outstanding receiver in college football after he caught 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns. 

Nabers will look to become the next star receiver from LSU, joining the likes of Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase and Odell Beckham Jr. The 6-foot, 199-pound Nabers catches everything in sight and will provide a team with instant playmaking ability. He hauled in 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 scores.

Odunze, at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, has elite size for the position. He set a program record with 1,640 receiving yards last season, the most in the country and the third-most ever in the Pac-12.

Massive crowd gathered at draft

The NFL Network's Rich Eisen said on air that 150,000 fans were gathered in Detroit for tonight's draft.

How much is it worth to players to go in the first round?

Where players get selected in the draft has a big impact on their salaries.

A deal struck in 2011 between the NFL and the players union included a rookie wage scale that dictates how much each player makes. That has meant far less money for younger players .

First-round draft picks are just about locked in to signing four-year contracts, with their value varying depending on where they're taken. Spotrac , a website that tracks sports contracts, projects that the first overall pick this year will have a contract valued at about $38.5 million, with each the pay of pick thereafter steadily declining. The last pick of the first round should get a contract worth about $12.1 million.

The decline continues but flattens, with most later-round picks getting contracts valued around $4.1 million, if they get signed at all.

AJ Brown gets monster extension

In non-NFL draft news, Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown signed a new three-year deal worth $96 million, according to multiple reports. It is the highest of any WR in NFL history.

Brown is under contract through 2029. Last season he caught 106 passes for 1,456 yards and seven TDs.

Caleb Williams ‘ready’ to be taken No. 1 in NFL draft and help Bears restore past glory

The USC quarterback is all but guaranteed to go No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears. While other players will stress about being picked, he knows he’ll wait only a few minutes to hear NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell read his name at the podium.

He’ll then walk onstage, shake hands, take photos and start preparing to become the team’s savior.

Bears feel good about ‘just being flexible’ at No. 9

Bears general manager Ryan Poles knows what the team will do with the first overall pick tonight, but he isn’t going to share the news until the Bears are  officially on the clock .

Once the Bears make that pick, Poles will be going right back to work. The Bears also have the ninth overall pick, and Poles won’t be able to settle on a choice until he sees what other teams do between Chicago’s two picks.

Last month, Poles said the team’s personnel staff would  split into teams  to debate taking an offensive tackle, a wide receiver or an edge rusher. Tuesday, he said that work solidified his belief that “those premium positions are important” to building championship-caliber teams and that he’s comfortable letting things play out because of how those positions match up with the overall draft board.

“The nice thing is from the  work that we’ve done  I feel pretty good about just being flexible,” Poles said, according to NBCSportsChicago.com.

Quarterback Caleb Williams is expected to be the first overall pick, and any direction the Bears go at No. 9 will give Chicago a double jolt of optimism about what’s to come.

Patriots coach says the Patriots will use their No. 3 pick — and could trade up for another 1st-rounder

With speculation continuing to swirl around what the New England Patriots could do tonight, head coach Jerod Mayo has provided some clarity.

Mayo said at the Patriots draft party that the team will get "a great player at 3" and that it could "sneak back into the first round," according to ESPN reporter Mike Reiss.

Oddsmakers have Williams, Daniels and Maye as heavy 1-2-3 favorites

Vegas has little doubt about who will be picked No. 1, 2 and 3 in tonight’s draft.

Caleb Williams at No. 1, Jayden Daniels at No. 2 and Drake Maye at No. 3 are all at -10000 for their respective predicted positions on single bets, according to BetMGM’s betting line odds .

That means someone would have to bet, and risk, $10,000 just to make $100.

All three prospects are quarterbacks.

Odds on the fourth pick's being wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. are less certain at -450 on MGM's line, meaning $450 would win $100.

Patriots could look to trade down

New England is still looking to find a replacement for legendary quarterback Tom Brady, who left the franchise in 2019. Mac Jones, a first-round pick in 2021, looked promising as a rookie, but his production dropped off over the last two seasons. He was dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason. 

The Patriots signed Jacoby Brissett, though he’s not expected to be the long-term starter. Will they instead take whoever is left among Daniels, Maye and McCarthy? If not, a trade down with a team such as the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings or the Las Vegas Raiders could be in play. All are searching for quarterbacks and would give up a multitude of picks to secure one. 

The Patriots, who finished 4-13 last season and have holes all over the roster, could use those extra picks to expedite a rebuild. 

What will the Commanders do at No. 2?

Like the Bears, the Commanders have been desperate for a franchise quarterback for more than three decades. There was a glimmer of hope with Robert Griffin III, the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, but multiple injuries over the next seven seasons led to an early exit from the league. Will this  finally  be Washington’s chance to turn around the franchise?

The Commanders have a new owner in Josh Harris and a new general manager in Adam Peters, and both have been tight-lipped about whom they might select. But all signs point to either LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels or North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Daniels won the 2023 Heisman Trophy after one of the most electrifying seasons in college football history. He threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions, while also adding 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. 

Maye, at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, boasts the prototypical size for the position and has drawn comparisons to Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert. After being named 2022 ACC Player and Rookie of the Year as a sophomore, he threw for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a junior.

University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who led the  Wolverines to their first national title  since 1997, is also reportedly being considered.

Projected No. 1 NFL draft pick Caleb Williams: ‘Having people that tell you the truth’ is key

For projected No. 1 NFL draft pick Caleb Williams, a large part of tonight comes down to trust.

“Not having 'yes men' around you, 'yes women' around you, having people that tell you the truth, having people tell you — in your corner that you trust that you’ll listen to,” Williams said on the red carpet in Detroit when he was asked how he keeps a level head.

“I think that’s really big for moments like this,” he said.

The USC quarterback is projected to be the top pick in the draft, and right now the Chicago Bears have that first pick.

Williams also thanked his alma mater. “Shout out to SC, all the love and support that you all have given me,” he told reporters in video captured by Ronnie Martin of NBCU Academy x NFL Experienceship.

The NFL should expect on Day 1 “that I care,” Williams said. “I care about, you know, my teammates, my guys, the people I go to battle with every Monday, Thursday, Sunday,” he said.

“I think that’s really big. Care goes a long way,” he said.

Daniels says he always has an omelet and two waffles before every game.

Sad night for panthers fans.

The Carolina Panthers finished last season with a league-worst 2-15 record. Top pick and quarterback Bryce Young struggled mightily as a rookie (though he didn’t have much to work with), and the team has many areas of concern. It should have the No. 1 pick for a chance to turn the franchise around, but alas … it has zero first-round selections. 

Carolina surrendered receiver D.J. Moore, 2023 first- and second-round picks, a 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick for the chance to take Young last year. If he doesn’t improve quickly, and that’s a big if, it will go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. 

Panthers fans can probably just take tonight off.

Where will J.J. McCarthy go?

The Michigan QB led the program to a national title last season. He's one of the fastest-rising prospects in the draft. A few months ago he wasn't expected to be a first-rounder. Now he might go in the top 10 picks.

How is the draft order determined?

Every year, the team that finishes the regular season with the worst record get the No. 1 overall pick, the team with the second-worst record, gets the No. 2 overall pick and so on.

As long as there are no trades (which there usually are), each of the seven rounds starts with the team that finished with the worst record and culminates with the Super Bowl champs.

Who is eligible for the 2024 NFL draft?

Per NFL.com :

“To be eligible for the draft, players must have been out of high school for at least three years and must have used up their college eligibility before the start of the next college football season. Underclassmen and players who have graduated before using all their college eligibility may request the league’s approval to enter the draft early.

Players are draft-eligible only in the year after the end of their college eligibility.

Before the draft, NFL player personnel staff members confirm the eligibility of draft prospects; that means researching the college backgrounds of about 3,000 college players each year.

In betting markets, it's Caleb Williams, then who knows

Caleb Williams is as close to a sure thing as it gets, at least according to betting markets.

Fans can bet on the NFL draft, offering an interesting and sometimes informative window into where players could be headed.

According to our friends at NBC Sports , Williams is a whopping -20000 to go first, meaning you would have to bet $20,000 just to win $100. In the sports betting world, that's about as close as you can get to a guarantee.

After that, things get muddier. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is favored to go second to the Washington Commanders (-600), and those odds have only been getting more confident about that pick. After that, the betting market likes UNC quarterback Drake Maye to the New England Patriots (-290).

That said, treat these markets with caution .

How the NFL draft works

Why do the Chicago Bears have the first pick? Why are the Super Bowl champion Chiefs last?

The answer to those questions is the same, sort of. The order of the draft is very simple: reverse order of how the teams performed in the previous season.

But the Bears weren't that bad, right? Well, teams can trade draft picks. Chicago traded its first-round pick last year to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for wide receiver D.J. Moore and a few draft picks.

Carolina's 2024 first-round pick was part of that deal, becoming the No. 1 overall pick after the Panthers finished a league worst 2-15.

All quiet on the trade front, for now...

It's expected to be a busy day for trades of players and draft picks between teams. But for now, nothing big to report.

Keep an eye on the Arizona Cardinals, the Minnesota Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots, the last of which was well-known for trading down in the draft under its former coach Bill Belichick. Will the new regime hold firm with its No. 3 pick?
