Recommended Itinerary

Arrival in Paro

On arriving at Paro International Airport, you will be received by the Swan Tours representative warmly who will accompany you on a drive to the hotel in Thimphu that is the capital of Bhutan. On reaching the hotel, check-in and stay overnight after having dinner.

Thimphu to Punakha

Wake up to the morning breakfast, you will start with the local sightseeing in Thimphu that counts a lot of place on the charts. Begin with the Trashichhodzong, Traditional Medicine Institute, Painting School, National Library, Textile & Folk Heritage Museum, Handicrafts Emporium and Memorial Chorten followed by the Dochula Pass at the last. Later, start with your journey to the next awaited destination Punakha on a drive after check-out from Thimphu.

Trashichhodzong  - Situated on the banks of Wang Chhu. It is home of the National Assembly and the summer residence of capital's venerated monastic community. The Dzong is the impressive result of a redesign of the original medieval structure sanctioned by the Third King, HM Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, when he moved Bhutan's permanent capital to Thimphu.

Bhutan's National Library  -is located close to the Thangkha painting school and contains arguably the best collection of religious and historical literature in the Himalayas. The Textile and Folk Heritage Museum opened in the year 2001 is a fascinating testimony of the Bhutanese material culture and living traditions. The Memorial Chhorten, a pious landmark for Thimphu's residents, was erected in 1974 by the mother of Third King, in memory of her son.

Memorial Chorten  - This stupa, which is predominantly white with spires of gold, was erected in 1974 in honor of the father of modern Bhutan, the third king of the country, His Majesty Jiqme Dorji Wangchuck. The Memorial Stupa, Thimphu, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa in Thimphu, Bhutan, located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital with its prominent landmark in the city of golden spires and bells. It is popularly known as "the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan".

Great Buddha Dordenma  - is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, however construction did not conclude until 25 September 2015. The statue was constructed at a cost of millions USD paid to Aerosun Corporation of Nanjing, China, Sponsorship from Singaporean.

Stay overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

Punakha - Wangduephodrang - Paro

In the wake of the early morning breakfast, you will start with exploring Punakha that counts in a plethora of places like, Punakha Dzong, Khamsum Yu Namgyal Chorten, and the local market. Have something to eat among the local meals and start off for Wangdiphodrang that has beautifully crafted bamboo products. Post lunch, have lunch and depart for Paro by covering Dochula Pass and Simtokha Dzong midway. Upon arrival in Paro, check-in the prescribed hotel and stay overnight!

Punakha Dzong  - Built strategically at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative center of the region, Punakha Dzong has played an important role in Bhutan's history. Damaged by four catastrophic fires and an earthquake, the Dzong has now been fully restored.

Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten  - Standing regally on the hill above the Punakha valley, Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten is a classic example of gorgeous traditions and architecture of Asian country. This Chorten, however, is unique. It is not designed for community worship or for monastic retreat or education like other Buddhist Institute and Colleges. It is designed as a magical tool. It was built by the Queen Mother for heading off the negative forces and transportation peace and harmony for all the living beings. The thing that sets this Chorten apart is that it was designed on the principals to delineate within the Holy Scriptures instead of trendy engineering manuals. The golden spire and labyrinthine wall patterns square measure fine example of art and traditions of an Asian country.

Dochula Pass  – Dochula Pass is a mountain pass in the snow-covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimpu to Punakha where 108 memorial Chortens or stupas known as "Druk Wangyal Chortens" have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. Apart from the Chortens, there is a monastery called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honor of the fourth Druk Gyalpo (head of the state of Bhutan), Jigme Singye Wangchuck; the open grounds in its front yard is a venue for the annual Dochula Druk Wangyal Festival. The pass with 108 memorial Chortens is adjacent to the country's first Royal Botanical Park

Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.

Local sightseeing in Paro

After having the morning breakfast, you will spend the day sightseeing in Paro. The several admirable places namely, Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan, remains of Drukyel Dzong and the traditional Bhutanese Farm House. After the wonderful day spent out, stay overnight in the hotel after dinner!

Kyichu Lhakhang  - (also known as Kyerchu Temple or Lho Kyerchu) is an important Himalayan Buddhist temple situated in Lango Gewog of Paro District in Bhutan. The Jowo Temple of Kyichu is one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, originally built in the 7th century by the Tibetan Emperor Songtsen Gampo. It is considered to be one of the 108 border taming temples he built. In the 8th century, the temple was visited by Padmasambhava and it is believed he concealed many spiritual treasures here.

Drukgyal   Dzong  - Drukgyal Dzong was a fortress and Buddhist monastery, now in ruins, located in the upper part of the Paro District, Bhutan. The dzong was probably built by Tenzin Drukdra in 1649 at the behest of Ngawang Namgyal, Zhabdrung Rinpoche, to commemorate the victory over an invasion from Tibet. In the early 1950s, Drukgyal Dzong was almost completely destroyed by fire. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan's Tentative List for UNESCO inclusion.

Bhutanese Farm House  - Staying in a Bhutanese farmhouse is altogether a different experience. It is an opportunity to get a firsthand experience of typical village life in Bhutan. Except for some modifications done to farmhouses’ hygiene and sanitation facilities, the rest remains the same. The upper floor of the farm houses usually has a big kitchen also used as a living room, a shrine (prayer room), a store and a bedroom.

The beautiful view of the mountains, clear sky, and dense coniferous forest with chirping birds can make you fall in love with its first glimpse. Post Lunch enjoy Paro Sightseeing -

Simtokha Dzong is a small dzong, Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan, the dzong is the first of its kind built in Bhutan. An important historical monument and former Buddhist monastery, today it houses one of the premier Dzongkha language learning institutes.

Ta Dzong - Ta Dzong, once a watchtower, built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan's National Museum in 1968.

National Museum of Bhutan : In 1968, The National Museum of Bhutan was built, which stands inside the ancient Ta-dzong building that showcases Bhutan culture and is stationed right above Rinpung Dzong in Paro. This museum is the house of beautiful specimens from Bhutanese art and culture, with main highlights are the paintings and bronze statues which are placed in extensive galleries, from where you can get to know a lot about Bhutan art and culture.

Rinpung Dzong : Built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro, the office of the Dzongda (district administrative head) and Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. The Paro town is full of Dzongs (monasteries), where you can join the monks for prayers as they wrap themselves in red robes with priceless smiles or walk down to the bed of Paro Chu and dip your feet in the cold crystalline water. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

DAY 8 : PARO, TAKTSANG MONASTERY HIKING

As the sun rays touch the beautiful Paro valley, wake up in the middle of Mother Nature and relish the beautiful view of the river and mountains in a single frame. Enjoy the gala spread but make sure to add some protein to it, as climbing to the top of the Taksang Monastery and back will require a good boost. Taktsang Monastery : After covering 1,200 meters on a fierce cliff, you will reach this sacred site known as the Tiger Nest. Once you climb to the top, take a deep breath of the fresh air and soother the eyes and soul with the stunning view of the scenic surroundings and the valley lying underneath—the Taktsang Monastery, established by Sain Guru Rinpoche, who came to Bhutan in 747 CE. Construction was of the complex was completed in 1694. After 3 hours of some adventurous trek, discover the Tiger Nest monastery, and if you wish, opt for a horse ride from the parking lot to reach the top. While trekking, witness the glorious view of the Paro town, with its lush green valleys, sparkling river, clear blue sky, and moving clouds, in short, enjoy nature at its best. Overnight in Paro.

Savita Khopde

Mumbai, Maharashtra

Hi Soumalya, We are very much thankful to you for planning entire Bhutan Package Tour from Mumbai with so proper itinerary, without any hectic schedule. We were able to enjoy all beautiful places, clicking lots of photographs without any worries about reaching to next destination. Hotels were good. Food was great. Especially, we enjoyed ourselves much at Mrs. Sonam's house. She was a gem, very warm and kind hearted lady and great cook. We enjoyed food at her place more than any other since it was home made with love and care. Special thanks to her and Mr Sonam too. Mr. Parmesh, our driver was very helpful too and entertained us lot. He was our part-time guide too.

Once again, I thank you for responding all my queries so patiently and Mr Sandip Raha too (I got a first introductory call from him as soon as I had put my query late in the night around 11 PM) and for completing our trip with success and lots of good memories in Bhutan. I will blindly recommend NatureWings to anyone who is looking for Bhutan Trip in future.

I also want to tell travel people that if there r senior citizens then book for them the hotels which has lift to go upstairs or set their stay on ground level but up views are always more beautiful. Thanks to NatureWings for memorable & beautiful stay in Bhutan. Bhutan is very beautiful & peaceful country with very beautiful people as well. You have to definitely try with this sector. If I go again to Bhutan then only I will book with NatureWings."

Srishti Jain - Review for Bhutan Package Tour Booking

Srishti Jain

"Had a memorable Bhutan Vacation (Oct 2017) with NatureWings. Special thanks to Mr. Suman Paul for planning the trip. Also, the operations team in Bhutan supported us very well, many thanks to Ms. Sabitra. We were 9 adults accompanied by two infants. We were given a comfortable 16 seater coaster. The driver and tour guide were very well informed and friendly. We had a pleasant stay (2N) at Osel, Thimpu. Punakha was splendid with Zhinkham Resorts (1N). In Paro, due to lack of availability we were given two rooms in Tashinamgay and Taktsang (3N). While Tashinamgay was good, I would not recommend Taktsang Boutique Resort at all. Overall we had a great experience in the beautiful country of Bhutan... Tashi Delek!"

Journey Cart helped us to make our honeymoon trip to Kerala memorable. Team helped throughout our journey answering all of our queries. Most important aspect of our journey was the driver (and his AC car) who was with us all the time - he was very kind, fluent in English and Hindi and cooperative. Hotels were of extraordinary quality. Meal (dinner and breakfast) quality was also good. I really would recommend Journey Cart to anyone who is planning to make their holidays memorable with their beloved ones. Mr. Vishal Mohan Telangre

Best Things To Do In A BhutanTrip

1. visit the tiger’s nest monastery.

One of Bhutan's most well-known sites is the Tiger's Nest Monastery, also referred to as Paro Taktsang. Buddhists regard it as a holy place because they think Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, meditated there and attained enlightenment. The monastery is situated in Paro Valley and can only be reached by a difficult walk through the forest. It is perched 900 metres above the Paro Valley floor on a cliff.

The trek to the Tiger's Nest Monastery is strenuous but worthwhile. The trek is a steep ascent that takes about two to three hours each way, with some sections requiring you to climb steps carved into the mountain. You will pass through a forest of rhododendron and pine trees along the way, and you'll get to take in breath taking views of the Paro Valley below.

Observing the Guru Rinpoche's meditation cave, which resides in one of the temples is one of the highlights of an excursion to the Tiger's Nest Monastery. Even though the cave is small and unassuming, it serves as a potent reminder of the spiritual importance of this location.

The Tiger's Nest Monastery visit is a once in a lifetime opportunity that just cannot be missed. Trekking through Bhutan's rich cultural and religious heritage is a difficult but rewarding experience. The Tiger's Nest Monastery is certain to leave you feeling inspired and humbled by the beauty and spirituality of this sacred site, whether you are a Buddhist pilgrim or merely a curious traveller.

4. Practice Meditation

Bhutan is a one of those countries where Buddhism is an integral part of daily life. Practicing meditation at a monastery or temple is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the spiritual and cultural aspects of Bhutan.

5. Participate In A Farm Stay

“ In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.

“ After an amazing trip to Tirthan with WanderOn, I decided to go to Manali-Jispa with them and yet again, the experience was worth every penny. The place was very beautiful and the quality of service was top-notch, the itinerary was very good and the quality of transportation and stays were very good. Had an awesome time there and made some good friends as well. Lastly, our trip captains Priyasha and Rachit managed the entire trip very well and were so fun and made our trip an experience worth remembering.

This 16th-century monastery has extraordinary architecture and is a must-visit while in Bhutan. It is a cluster of buildings that looks as if it is cascading down a 900-metre-high cliff. It consists of 4 temples, praying spaces, and residences for monks. The monastery is reachable only after a steep 2-3 hour climb, so make sure to include this place in your Bhutan tour packages.

Location :  Taktsang trail, Paro Valley.

2. Chele La , Paro:  One of the most intriguing and exciting  places to visit in Bhutan  and it must be part of your Bhutan packages , Chele La is the country’s highest motorable pass. Located at an altitude of around 3988 meters above sea level, it divides the Haa Valley from Paro Valley. The pass offers stupendous views of the surrounding alpine forests, waterfalls, lush green valleys, and mountains like Jomolhari.
