“When we set out on this journey in 2003, we were the youth band from our church in Atlanta,” says Casting Crowns lead singer/songwriter Mark Hall. “We were amazed that we were even given the opportunity to record our songs and play them for the world, and even more amazed that people wanted to hear them. Now, 20 years later, we are still just as amazed that we have gotten to be a little part of your story through the years with our stores and songs.”
This milestone anniversary tour will commemorate two decades of Casting Crowns’ expansive repertoire of chart-topping albums, featuring hit songs like “Scars In Heaven,” “Only Jesus,” “Nobody,” “Praise You In This Storm, “East to West” and many more.
“This fall, as a way to celebrate all that God has done so far, we wanted to do something different,” Hall continues. “We’ll be bringing an orchestra, creating some really special, unique moments, sharing stories from our journey together, and playing the songs you’ve enjoyed from us since the beginning. We hope you will come out and celebrate and join us for this special 20th Anniversary tour!”

Casting Crowns Frontman Mark Hall Talks Blending Music and Ministry on New Album ‘Healer’
'You never own your faith as much as when you are giving it away to other people,' says frontman Mark Hall.

During the pandemic Casting Crowns frontman Mark Hall had more on his mind than just writing songs for the Grammy-winning band’s next album. As a youth pastor for more than two decades, Hall’s priority was shepherding the young people at his Georgia church during these tumultuous times. But as has always happened throughout Casting Crowns’ multi-platinum career, music and ministry intersected to fuel the band’s new album, Healer , out today (Jan. 14) via Sony’s Provident Music Group.

“What kept me going is ministry,” Hall tells Billboard of his response to the pandemic. “I feel you are growing the most when you spiritually matter to someone else… You never own your faith as much as when you are giving it away to other people. As a youth pastor, I’m a source for those students to get through hard times. I’m reminding them of the truth, and the cool thing about that is when you are reminding people of the truth, you are reminding yourself of what you need to know too.”
Focusing on the needs of others kept Hall moving forward. “Being shut in our houses, if we’re not careful, it gets you thinking about yourself and what you need,” he says, “but when people need you… you wake up thinking, ‘How are they doing today’ instead of ‘How am I doing today?’ I was realizing I’ve got teenagers all over the city right now who cannot leave the house and they cannot get to their friend groups. Students may not have as much as adults do to worry about, but have just as much heart and are just as much invested in something.”
Trending on Billboard
Hall kept his youth group connected through “Instagram, devotions, Zoom calls and group hangouts. We did things like Bob Ross painting night with 50 kids, painting at the same time on a Zoom,” he says. “When you’re pouring into people that means your life is moving… Anytime I felt myself going sour it was because I was just sitting. But when you start focusing on loving people especially when you are loving them with Jesus, there is a flow to your life that keeps you moving.”
That flow led to the songs on Healer including singles “The Power of the Cross” and “Scars in Heaven.” The latter broke the global first-day streaming record for a Christian song debut on Amazon Music. That feat was just the latest impressive accomplishment for the band since their self-titled 2003 Beach Street/Reunion Records debut. They’ve populated Christian radio with such hits as “Voice of Truth,” “If We Are the Body,” “Who Am I,” “Praise You in This Storm,” “Thrive,” “East to West,” “Only Jesus” and “Nobody.” The seven-piece won a Grammy for their 2005 album Lifesong and has earned 18 Dove Awards and multi-platinum albums.
Hall co-wrote “Scars in Heaven” with fellow Christian hitmaker Matthew West. “I was walking with my mom through losing her parents and dealing with grief and then we lost [original drummer] Andy Williams to a motorcycle accident and seeing the loss that was going on in the church during Covid,” Hall says. “I remember Mom saying she knew her parents were passing, and she was preparing herself for it — but nothing prepares you for the silence of not hearing their voices. She said, ‘I know where mom and dad are. I just miss them and the things that I wished I would have done differently, things that I wish I could do.’ That’s when this song took a new shape.
“I remember showing her a verse where Jesus had appeared to the disciples after he rose from the grave and they just didn’t believe it was him,” he continues. “He showed them his scars and I said, ‘Mom, Jesus still has his scars. That gives us rest in knowing that the reason that there are no scars in heaven is because he took those… That’s why the hallelujah moment is at the bridge — because when we move closer to Jesus in our grief, we can rest in knowing that our loved ones are with him, and they have no regrets at all.”
Hall also collaborated with West on the title track, “Desert Road,” “2nd Opinions,” and the playful “Crazy People” (co-written with Seth Mosley), which came from a conversation about The Ark, a life-size Noah’s Ark that has become a popular tourist attraction in Williamstown, Ky. “Seth said, ‘Can you imagine coming home from work and your neighbor was building that in his yard? What would you think of somebody like that?’ I said, ‘I’d think they were crazy,’’ Hall says. “Most of the people that we call heroes of faith, if they would have been a friend of ours and told us they were about to do some of the things they did in the Bible we’d go, ‘Man, you’re crazy! You’ve got to stop,’ and I said, ‘So what that tells me is this world needs more crazy people.’ When I said that Matthew goes, ‘Man, that’s a song!’ And then we started right there and that song came out so fast.”
Hall says crowds have responded enthusiastically when they’ve performed the song live, and he’s happy the message is resonating: “Everybody is so mad right now and we could use some people to start just loving like crazy, serving like crazy, forgiving like crazy, just going out of our way to show how big God’s love is. That will look absolutely insane in the times that we are living in, but it’s what we need.”
Though Mosley was involved in the production of a few songs, the bulk of the album was again produced by Mark Miller, singer/songwriter/producer and longtime frontman of country group Sawyer Brown. “He believed in us. He breathed life into our music and he got us out there to the world,” says Hall of Miller signing them to Beach Street. “I’m not just with him because of loyalty, I’m with him because he’s the best guy for us. He knows what Crowns is about, and he’s not going to let a record get away from what we’re all about.”
Healer features seven tracks, and Hall says the band is nearing completion of the second part of the album, which will be released this spring. His intent was to give people more time to digest these songs before releasing the remainder of the record. “People seem to have a new record come out and a month later [fans] are like, ‘Hey when do you have something new coming?’ People go through music so fast,” he says. “These songs need some time to live…I’m talking about real-life stuff, and the fact without Jesus we’re in trouble. When you’re giving hope to people that you know need hope, you want to make sure that they are hearing everything you are saying so I thought we needed to space this out.”
Casting Crowns embarks on the Healer tour Feb. 17th with opening acts We Are Messengers and Jonathan Traylor. Presented by Compassion International, the outing kicks off in Baltimore, Md.

Casting Crowns is a Grammy award winning American Christian contemporary rock band formed in 1999 from Florida. The group is made up of pastors and ministers many of whom play a variety of instruments.
The group was founded just before the millennium by singer-songwriter and then youth pastor, Mark Hall, at First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach. It was created originally as a student worship band, where young Christians could play music within a religious setting.
After the band decided to move south to Georgia in 2001 and gathered various musicians, such as Melodee DeVevo on violin and Andy Williams on drums, they chose to independently release their debut full length album, the self-titled “Casting Crowns”. They quickly followed that up the next year with a sophomore indie release “What If The Whole World Prayed”. Both albums were popular in the local Christian community, and before long, after winning regional songwriting competitions, the band found themselves signing with the newly founded Beach Street Records.
Now a fully-fledged band, in 2003, Casting Crowns wrote and released their first official studio album, again a self-titled effort. The album was a massive success for the group, selling nearly 2 million copies and reaching the top of various Billboard charts, as did its lead singles “Who Am I” and “Voice of Truth”.
After the unexpected success of their first album, the group finished work on their follow up “Lifesong” in 2005. Again they found success, not only commercially, but also critically, with the LP winning a Grammy for the “Best Contemporary Gospel Album of the year”.
Since their early success, the group have sustained their ability to produce chart-topping music, such as their 2007 single “East to West” which broke records after spending 16 weeks at number 1. They have also continued to win awards, such as the Dove Award for Artist of the Year, in 2010 and embarked on various lengthy and prosperous tours.
Live reviews
Casting Crowns are an enchanting Christian rock band with mesmerizing and unique music that really touches you on a spiritual level, even in a concert setting. I was surprised at how good they were live, they are very talented! One of the things I loved most about the concert was the atmosphere. It was magical, the lights were dimmed and the group was lit up with blue light, making the setting very emotional. This was amplified by the band's body language and movements on stage, it was all very emotive and beautiful to watch. The quality of the vocals and the instruments was spectacular, particularly the violin, which was played expertly and was a focal point in each of the songs, truly beautiful. It was a surreal experience, the music is so spellbinding, at a Casting Crowns concert you feel like you are in heaven. The lyrics are meaningful, both spiritually and concerning god, but also relating to love and other aspects of life. The song 'Who Am I' is a popular favourite and the lyrics are truly inspired, seeing it performed live was a special moment for me as it is one of my favourite songs of all time.
I loved every second of the concert, it was something special and something everyone should experience. Whether you are into Christian rock or any genre of rock, I think you should grab your tickets to see Casting Crowns live for a unique and magical experience!

I recently saw Casting Crowns in Macon, GA. This was my second Crowns concert in 3 months, having recently seen them in Atlanta for their Christmas tour. Even if you are not there for the worship experience, which I was, their music and the concert experience is great. They have so many hit songs I think it would be much like attending an Eagles concert....they could play all night and there would be song after song that you know. Mark Hall is a gifted songwriter and singer. Due to his calling as a youth pastor he also is a great communicator when he talks to the audience. If you have not seen Crowns live, please add it to your bucket list of concerts to see. But be careful. Don't expect to leave there without being blessed. If you already know and have a personal relationship with Jesus, it will be enhanced. If you are just going to hear some good music, expect to leave with new understanding of WHO Jesus is and what He did for you. A Crowns concert, not only could be a life changing experience for you.....it could be an eternity changing experience for you. Check their tour dates and if they are in a city near you, GO!!!
Casting Crowns Concert was so special. They rarely do Christmas Concerts so for them to do this for their fans made you know they had something special to say. Mark Hall made it known people need to take time to worship and praise Jesus on Christmas & to share this with friends & family. This day is the day that we celebrate His birth, that we need to remember that at all times of the season. Their songs they did were just special, including the new ones for Christmas. If Casting Crowns appears at a venue near you, give yourself a gift and go see it, and better yet, give the gift of a Casting Crowns Concert to someone who has never seen them!
AWESOME as always, while I enjoyed elevation worship and Hillsong worship ! Casting Crowns was the go to! They performed less than I have ever saw them! Their merchandise was not real appealing to me , ALOT of dark colors! I got my tickets through Ticket master! The parking was complete chaos, paid for parking ahead and was late to concert due to no one knowing ANYTHING about the prepaid parking and the crowd control due to volume (I guess) was not adequate!
What a great show. All the groups music complimented each others and was very inspirational. I brought a friend who "kinda" believed, but she received Christ fully that night. We prayed togethe and praised Him for Hus faithfilness. The stage sets were quick and efficiend and the merchandice was logically displayed. I thotoughly enjoyed myself and praise God for touching my friend is such a deep and personal way that nifgt.
What a great performance! Their sound was on point and beautiful. They sang songs from all of their CD's. The place was packed filled with the live of God. What a night! They performed for hours and covered for Sidewalk Prophets. It was seamless and special. Shout out to Mandisa her voice rocked the place. So happy I attended. This was a night to remember.
It was wonderful the most amazing show I've ever seen. This is my very first concert that I've been to I'm very happy that I chose Casting Crowns. There are my upmost favorites group in the Christian Community. All the songs were amazing my my friends and family love the show. I would even bring my nine-year-old to come and see the show it's so great.
Great concert, sang all my favorite songs. I love this this concert because Mark always prays for his concert goers and talks about real issues. Love worshipping God to their music. Brought my son to their concert for his first Casting Crowns. Nothing like worshipping with your children.
King and Country and Casting Crowns were excellent. We totally enjoyed ourselves. We will return for another show. Our seats were quite good but will try to get our seats sooner the next time. The group is great and it is good to know they don’t just sing about Christ the live it
The show was awesome there music is really inspirational and very touching also there music is uplifting I am amazed by there music.. I Love all there songs I also love the song Here’s My Heart & Jesus friend of Sinners, & Who am I, also Only Jesus!!

"Desert Road," a harmony-filled tune that plays like a Casting Crowns classic, speaks to those moments when God's plan isn't clear, but we're still called to follow. It's about the journey of getting past yourself and realizing God knows what He's doing, that He's already at the end of the road looking back on it.
