Typical Itinerary

Every unreel adventure is unique.

Your experienced Skipper and Crew will plan each day’s activities to suit the prevailing tides, weather and guests’ desires.

Chartered bus pick up from your Broome accommodation for your scenic overland drive to Derby or Cygnet Bay. Welcome aboard your new home King Tide, meet the crew & enjoy your favourite drink straight off the ice. Your safety and orientation briefing will be followed by a discussion of our plan for your unique adventure as we steam north into King Sound to our first anchorage.

Awaken to a spectacular sunrise, we are surrounded by beautiful Islands, with giant granite boulders resting above the pebbled beaches. At 1.8 billion years, these are some of the oldest rocks in Australia. Gather large Black Lipped Oysters at low tide, a delicious feast our cook will prepare just the way you like them. Follow the tide up a mangrove creek chasing Barramundi and Mudcrabs. Fish our secret lump for big Northern Mulloway as the tide slackens.

Strickland Bay

A great destination for a diverse range of fishing experiences. We’ll target Barramundi, Fingermark and Mangrove Jack in the creeks and try our luck for a Tuna in the bay. We’ll also drop the pots for a Mudcrab on the way to the spectacular Kyulgum Waterfall.

Silica Beach

Cruise north to Hidden Island where, if tide permits, we will alight on the pure white sands of Silica Beach. Walk up the river bed to find the origin of this unusual creation. Enjoy a swim in the azure waters.

Coppermine Creek

Fish the nearby reefs for big Fingermark and Saddletail Sea Perches. Our anchorage near the creek is a hot spot for close encounters with bigger marine animals after the sun sets.

Yampi Sound Fishing

Troll for Spanish Mackerel , Coral Trout and Trevally over the reefs. Drift over some deeper reefs for big Fingermark and Saddletail Sea perches on the turn of the tide.

Crocodile Creek

At high tide visit Crocodile Creek for a lovely swim beneath the waterfall. The small fishes nibbling at your toes are juvenile Mangrove Jacks. Climb up to crystal waters of the spring fed pool above. Many of our adventurers will enjoy the aerial route back down.

Horizontal Waterfalls

Cruise through some of the most spectacular scenery on the coast and then be blown away by an exciting ride in a very fast boat through one of the natural wonders of the world, the Horizontal Waterfalls.  The resident Tawny Nurse sharks will be slowly circling our duckboard, hoping for a feed.

Experienced by only a few, this bay is enclosed in steep quartzite cliffs. Waterfalls cascade from their heights. We will fish and explore creeks hidden in the mangroves. Here we find resident crocodiles and Barramundi chasing the bait up with the tide.

Montgomery Reef

Catch the outgoing tide to the famous Montgomery Reef. Watch the water recede and the 400 square km of reef rise out of the water creating many bubbling cascades. See the myriad of reef life including Dugongs, Turtles, and schools of tropical fishes.

Hunt for delicious Mudcrabs on the rising tide in Red Cone Creek. Visit the beautiful Ruby Falls for a swim and climb up to explore the headwaters. Swim in Lilly lined pools draped by fragrant Weeping Paperbarks and Frangipani. Jump off the top into the plunge pool if you dare. (only for the hard core adventurers)

Ride the incoming tide into the steep sandstone gorges of the Sale River in the tenders. This is one of the most beautiful rivers in the Kimberley. Get above the highest rock bar on the top of the tide where the freshwater meets the salt, cast for a Barramundi. Explore a fantastic rainforest with spring fed creek. Swim in the cool fresh water with the local Cherubim.

Yampi Sound Exploring

After some more fishing around the Yampi reefs, we will cruise up Silvergull Creek to the Squatters Arms for a BBQ lunch. Explore a hidden oasis of tropical gardens replete with a warm spring fed pool. Float around in the healing waters and celebrate your adventures.

Outer Islands

Today is the big fish day .We will be trolling the blue water offshore from Cafferelli  Island for Spanish Mackerel, GTs, Queenfish, and Tuna. At high tide swim and stroll on a scenic double beach. Climb up to the top of the Island for a vista of the Archipelago.

Final Day 9 – Cygnet Bay or Derby

Watch a slideshow of your trip highlights as we steam through Escape Passage to Cygnet Bay at the NE of Cape Leveque. After an informative tour of the oldest family owned pearl farm in the Kimberley, it’s your choice for lunch and drinks at their cool new bistro. Purchase an Australian South Sea pearl from our pristine ocean. The original homestead has been transformed into a cafe’ and pearl gallery where you can view an array of Australian pearls harvested fresh from the waters of Cygnet Bay.

Ten friends from Sydney have just had THE MOST FANTASTIC WEEK onboard the Unreel Adventure boat King Tide. We aren't fishermen /women at home and went for the scenery, waterfalls, adventure and a bit of fishing on the way. We came away loving fishing with our great skipper and crew guiding the way,they convinced us and WE LOVE FISHING NOW! We fished, crabbed, swam in the beautiful azure waters,climbed waterfalls, snorkeled along the amazing Montgomery reef, watched crocodiles stalk our boat, sharks cruising past ,turtles, sea snakes ,snub nosed dolphins and beautiful birds everyday, and managed to avoid the crowds from the big luxury cruises. I'd recommend Bruce and his team for any great adventure planned. He was super helpful with planning and keen to know what wanted to do. He has a great knowledge of his backyard and worked around our ideas. The food was excellent and plenty of it, we ate the crabs and fish we caught. Small but very comfortable sleeping area, and hot showers. We didn't get time to be in the cabin as there was so much to do. We fell asleep in blissful exhaustion every day ( our choice of how busy we wanted to be) Thanks Bruce and team. We are already dreaming of another trip. Beck

My family of 4 spent a week with Unreel Adventures in April, we had an unforgettable holiday. The crew went above and beyond to ensure we all had a great time, I was a bit worried about my 82 year old Dad and how he would cope but there was no need to worry the crew were amazing. Bruce our skipper kept us busy sight seeing, catching fish, crabbing, exploring waterfalls and entertaining us with is stories. At BlueSun Travel, we offer two exciting fishing charter options out of Broome. These are the full day and half day reef fishing tours.

FULL DAY BROOME FISHING TOURS

Hours:              7 hours

Departing:      07.30 AM  

Returning:      02.30 PM  

Passengers:     The boat fishes 14 lines at a time 

Enjoy a full day reef fishing charter catching quality table fish for dinner, or earn bragging rights landing a great fighting sport fish! Everything is provided including return transfers from your accommodation, all you have to do is remember to bring your camera!

This amazing day out on the water is perfect of everyone. As such we can look after amateurs, experts, families & children. In the end everyone is welcome and you can even share a line with your child.

WHAT YOU CAN CATCH ON A BROOME FISHING CHARTER

The more prominent species you should see on the Full Day Fishing Charter include Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Black Snapper, Crimson Snapper, Saddletail Seaperch, Golden Snapper, Rankin Cod, Giant Trevally & Golden Trevally.  However, throughout the day we will also spend some time trolling lures for Tuna & Spanish Mackerel.

Finally, we will clean your catch and pack it straight on ice to give you the best quality fish to take home. Please note, all undersize or unwanted fish are immediately returned to the water to increase survival rates and promote sustainability of fisheries.

Amid fishing you will be served morning tea on the Half Day charter, with m orning tea & lunch served on the Full Day. Food includes a fresh fruit platter & cake, salads and assorted meat platters are served with fresh bread and rolls. As such, you can choose what you would like to eat.

Why not h elp yourself to unlimited soft drinks, including bottled water, sodas, as well as tea & coffee throughout the day. Of course, BYO alcohol is permitted – an esky and ice is provided to keep your drinks cold.

FISHING GEAR

Fin-Nor Offshore spin reels with braided line are used for bottom fishing. The same reels are used for trolling with mono line. All outfits are rigged with high quality leader and hooks, giving you the best chance to catch and land your fish. We don’t use cheap gear, or skimp out on what’s important. We want to see you land a record breaker and will do everything possible to make that happen!

While we do provide everything you’ll need to snag a beauty, if you’d prefer to bring your favourite rod and reel please feel welcome. In this way, you won’t need to bring bait, buckets or an esky though.

If ocean fishing is not your thing then estuary fishing charters could be just what you’re looking for as you explore the estuarine creek systems and try your hand at landing a Barramundi or Mangrove Jack! Mud Crabs are also an option so drop a crab pot in, drop a line in, and soak up the picturesque sites of the mangroves.

Creek Fishing

Fish your way around the bay trying your luck in Dampier Creek, Crab Creek or Black Ledge depending on tidal movement. You will fish several different areas throughout the tour.

We cover a mixture of fishing with live bait, dead bait and lures.

All fishing gear is supplied – rods & reels, bait, hand towels and catch bags. You are welcome to bring your own fishing gear if you wish.

Mud Crabbing Broome

Fish targeted on this charter include but are not limited to Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, Blue Nose Salmon, Mangrove Jack, Black Jew, Queenfish, Tripletail, Catfish.

Mud crabbing is available on request.

We will clean your catch and pack it straight on ice to give you the best quality fish to take home. All undersize or unwanted fish are immediately returned to the water to increase survival rates and promote sustainability of fisheries.

General Tour Info

Beginners, experts, families & children are welcome. Our highly trained and experienced staff is always on hand to help you enjoy your day.

Half Day Creek Fishing charters go for approximately 5 hrs and we take a maximum of 3 passengers. Start times vary depending on the tides.

Please be aware the Creek fishing vessel is an open boat so you will be exposed to full sun. Please wear sun smart clothing and a wide brim hat.

Beginning with a free pick up service from your accommodation around 7am, you will be transferred to one of the landings on the shore of Roebuck Bay. You will cruise Roebuck Bay towards one of the creeks passing beautiful mangroves and rock formations on the way. Here you will fish to your heart’s content in the surrounds of Broome’s local creek systems, and, if you like try for a Mud Crab as well!

Amid fishing you will be served fruit and a sandwich for morning tea.

Help yourself to unlimited cold drinks including bottled water & soft drink. BYO alcohol – an esky and ice is provided to keep your drinks cold.

We return to Broome around 12pm. You will then be transferred in our air-conditioned courtesy Broome bus back to your accommodation with your catch.

Charter FAQs

Whatever you need to be comfortable, protected from the sun and capture memories. Think hat, sunnies, ideally long sleeved clothing and bring a camera (although nowadays phone cameras are plenty good enough). Wear whatever footwear you’re comfortable in, thongs are fine, but if you prefer to wear sneakers they’re unlikely to get wet.

Drinks? Feel free to BYO, however we request you bring only a small esky or cooler bag to keep them cold. Alternatively, we’ve got a licensed bar on board with a great range of bevvies, and prices start as low as $5 a drink, bargain! Of course, we’ve also got a great range of non-alcoholic refreshments, too.

Need sea sickness medication? Please ensure to bring this if necessary, as we don’t generally carry this on board.

While we do provide everything you’ll need to snag a beauty, if you’d prefer to bring your favourite rod and reel please feel welcome. You won’t need to bring bait, buckets or an esky though.

Fin-Nor Offshore spin reels with braided line are used for bottom fishing. The same reels are used for trolling with mono line. All outfits are rigged with high quality leader and hooks, giving you the best chance to catch and land your fish. We don’t use cheap gear, or skimp out on what’s important. We want to see you land a record breaker and will do everything possible to make that happen!

No, we have eskies on board for both your fish and your drinks. We’d prefer if you didn’t, purely for the sake of storage space and keeping the deck clear, however if you’d like to bring a small esky or cooler bag to keep drinks or snacks cool then please do so.

If you’ve booked a private charter, we can chat through your specific requirements and ensure you’re set up for a great time.

Contessa C fishes 14 lines at a time, but can take up to 25 passengers for group bookings. JayBee takes a maximum of 3 passengers.

If you’ve got a partner or young kids that aren’t keen to fish all day, a shared line might be a good option. This gives you 1 rod to share between two people, so you can take turns and enjoy the day at a more laid back pace. Please note, Shared Line bookings must accompany a Single Line booking.

On Absolute Ocean Charters’ Broome Fishing Charters, you can keep anything you catch as long as it’s within Fisheries regulations. It’s important to follow these rules to ensure the longevity and sustainability of our ocean’s health. Of course, if you’d prefer to catch and release, you’re more than welcome to!

Yes! Children of all ages are welcome on our Broome Fishing Charters. We encourage you to bring the kids along for a great day out on the water, however please be aware all children on board are the responsibility of the parent at all times. Children 4 years and under are free.

Broome Fishing Charters operate daily year round. In the quiet season (November to March) charters are booking-dependent, but in the busy season there’s hardly a day where the boat isn’t full—so get in quick to secure a spot!

The Kuri Bay Experience, A new fishing destination

Located around 330km north of Broome,and 220km out from Derby and situated smack in the middle of the Lalang-Garram/Camden Sound Marine Park on the West Kimberley coast the Paspaley Pearling base was built by the Japanese in the 1950s and the bay is named after one of the site’s founders, Tokuichi Kuribayashi.

Up until 2016 the area has been inaccessible to the general public. This fact alone makes Kuri Bay a must do destination.

Peter Tucker (Tux) a well-known Kimberley charter fishing operator and Kimberley guide, a character with 30 years in the industry on the Kimberley coast has, with minimum intervention-transformed Australia’s oldest pearl farm into a world class remote Kimberley fishing charter destination at the invitation of the Paspaley Pearls group.
