Just starting to research. Would like to go as a couple next Fall - November 2024. We are a 60 something couple looking for a nice boutique style hotel with pool or do most people recommend staying at all inclusive's? If most prefer AI, what would you recommend for this? Needs to be at least a 4 star either way. Budget would be higher moderate.

AI are good for a quick week and not much exposure to the area. Secrets is the best of the bunch. Google Las Palmas or Casa Ceiba for a step up.

We stayed at Dreams last month, already rebooked for Secrets in January

Two different worlds. You will be treated like a king and queen at the All Inc . venue. Its is recommended to get out and experience what the area has to offer.

Good luck with your research.

Check out Casa Bocana. We are there now for a week and it is very nice. It's off the beaten track a little bit.

My first suggestion would be to defer to December or January. From Canada there tends to be more choice in those months and the prices better. Also the weather is more reliably good - hot and dry.

the weather in November is GREAT. Hot, everything is Lush and green, you miss the crowds.

We usually arrive in Huatulco during the 3rd week in October, as we like to participate in the Dias de Los Muertos (Days of the Dead) events during the last week of October and the 1st few days of November. The rains have usually abated by that time leaving the “jungles” green and the waterfalls gushing in the mountains, and the ocean waters still are quite warm.

My tip to you other than to encourage you to read the Top Questions on the right hand side of this page and the info on the left hand side is: Do not change your funds into US Dollars. Change CAD directly to Pesos. Your home bank will give you a decent rate even if you have to order in advance. You can use your bank card to get more Pesos as needed. There is a private owned ATM in Dreams but a better rate is from the bank owned ATM at the gate.

You picked a wonderful spot. We were the 2 years ago and enjoyed every minute. Some info: Like it or not the beach chairs get "Reserved" by early morning towels. But there will always be some available. Bring some bread and feed the fish along the left side rocks. Climb over them to visit the next resort or walk the beach to the golf course turn up along a path to a campground then out onto the street. A La Carte restaurants don't take reservations, show up, if full, they give you a disc that will lite up and vibrate when theres an opening. Bit of a walk from front to back but flat and takes maybe 5-6 min. Cab to La Crucecita is only a few dollars, and there are tons of great restaurants. But go early as come 1 pm its to hot to do much of anything. Watch out for the mountain tour that ends up Muskel tasting. You will be absolutely bombed just trying to taste all the various free shots offered.

We hirier a boat for fishing and snorkeling. Tino Hermandez , his boat is Snook. His fee is $50.00 per hr. our son caught a huge sail fish which we released. Snorkeled off a beach with no road access. His buddy Tony snorkeled with us and caught a puffer fish and porcupine fish with his bare hands which we held,sea cucumbers as well.Got the experience of dolphin pods swimming all around us while fishing and sea turtles every where. Bring insect repellent.

RE booking camastres on the beach--the security guards will remove stuff notably left there for a long time and allow families, especially those with children, needing shade to use the palapas. Canadian and American guests are sadly very guilty of this lack of consideration for other people. The longest you should leave a shaded chair is one hour--though the hotel does state 30 minutes. It does take time to walk over to the lunch restaurant and have a quick lunch! Tell your neighbours that you will be back shortly.

Remember the beach is federal Mexican properity and it is squatters' rights for the shade.

Water-based fun....you can hire various types of small crafts and kayaks and jet-skis to see the bays and beaches, or to go swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving, or to fish for sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, and tuna, or to "veg" on a beach or 2 (or 3, 4....)

Land trips by taxis, bus, mini van, ATVs, scooters, bikes and/or horses to the mountains and jungles to see the flora and fauna and plantations, or to bathe under a waterfall, or go to river rafting or rock climbing or to see and lay-on the beaches; for instance, the magical waterfalls in Copalita ("cascadas magicas de copalitilla") and the lagoon where you can swing-out from the top like Tarzan and plunge into the refreshing waters. We enjoy going there when we run out of coffee because the nearby plantations have some of the best roasted beans in the area.

Day trips to nearby beaches, markets, villages and towns are also possible, for instance Santa Maria Huatulco, Puerto Angel, Pochutla & Zipolite or Puerto Escondido.

Bird watching.....remember that Huatulco is in the middle of a National Park System.

Three/four-day excursions to Oaxaca (the capital) to eat yourself silly and visit the art galleries, relax at a concert, or explore the fabulous archeological and craft-making sites at Mitla, Monte Alban, Teotitlán, Yagul, Arbol De Tule, San Bartolo Coyotepec or Arrazola. But as you are only staying for 1 week, you might try a trip to Oaxaca next time....as you are sure to return to Huatulco!

And if these are not enough (or to your liking) how about a sunset cruise?

Ask the Concierge Manager at your hotel to arrange one or more excursions for you. Alternatively, you can simply arrange (usually less expensive) events at the visitor’s information kiosk in the main plaza in La Crucecita or take a stroll to one of the marinas in Bahia Chahue or in Santa Cruz and negotiate a water-based excursion with one of the boat owners.

Being on a boat! But we want to venture to more beaches with restaurants/bars. What are your suggestions? So so excited for the next two weeks!!!

Taxi to Maguey is a must if a little adventerous a hike into Organo is amazing day . Just have a cooler and drinks as nothing on beach but peace and quiet if your lucky noy many people

At Maguey check out Restaurante El Pescador. Great restaurant at the calm end. Griselda gives a great massage at the back of the restaurant. She is a trained massage therapist!

The best at a reasonable price!

You will love the beach club at the Binni! We are heading there on the 30th.

Joby … we are enjoying this small hotel. Been a fantastic holiday so far. My biggest complaint would be they don’t have coffee before 7:30.

Otherwise, love the location. Close walk to practically everything. Enjoy your vacation!

We rented a scooter for 24 hrs from Dario. 700pesos delivered and picked up at the las brisas gate. Almost brand new with new helmets and 2 storage compartments for snorkel gear. I left my fins at the resort and regretted it as I could have stuffed them in our back pack. Cab to playa la Entrega is 200 pesos one way so you could snorkel both and be able to explore many other places and things.

[email protected] We used it to tour areas we wanted to see at our own pace (including Playa la Entrega and Playa la Bocana , a spa, real estate, sun rise on a second early trip to Bocana). My wife and I felt very safe and took turns at the helm.
