Surrounded by the snow-capped Shivalik Hills, the ideal, fairy-tale town of Kasauli, in Himachal Pradesh, has an old-world charm, dating back to the times when it was established as an Army cantonment in 1842. Lined with a number of sprawling colonial bungalows, quaint cottages tucked amidst oak and pine trees, cobbled pathways, serene churches and small souvenir shops, Kasauli is where colonial tales come to life. Tourists can experience this rich legacy while staying in the Raj-era bungalows that have now been converted either into homestays or hotels. With its lush green mountains home to a wide variety of species of birds and animals, Kasauli has a rich reservoir of flora and fauna.

Folklore says Kasauli has derived its name from a flower found in the hills called kasool. A two-hour drive from the city of Chandigarh, Kasauli is home to several ancient temples. Kasauli is also popular as the birthplace of famous Indian author of British origin, Ruskin Bond. The town is chilly during winters with temperatures falling to 2 degree, while summers are pleasant.

What's Trump doing in Wisconsin? What to know about the former president's visits

Former President Donald Trump has spent considerable time in and out of courtrooms in recent months, leaving little room for him to campaign. But he's made it clear with several visits to the Badger State that Wisconsin is key to a possible victory in November.

Here's why.

What's Trump doing in Wisconsin (again)?

Trump has spent the little time he's had to campaign outside of his various legal proceedings visiting Wisconsin, not once, but twice in the past two months.

The former president held a rally in Waukesha on Wednesday, where he criticized President Joe Biden's handling of southern border security and said that if he returned to the White House, America would see a "Trump economic boom."

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel , Trump would not commit to accepting the November election results if Biden won.

"If everything's honest, I'd gladly accept the results," Trump told the Sentinel in an interview on Wednesday. "If it's not, you have to fight for the right of the country.

Last month, Trump made a stop in Green Bay where he again asserted the false claim he won the state in the previous election. His last visit was in August 2022.

How has Trump fared in Wisconsin elections?

Trump lost Wisconsin to Biden in 2020 by less than a one-point margin (49.4% to 48.8%).

In 2016, Trump beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by just over one percentage point (47.2% to 46.5%).

More: Joe Biden trails Donald Trump in new national poll on 2024 election

Why is Wisconsin so important in 2024?

Every state will be important in November given how close the two candidates are polling , but Wisconsin especially because of its purple hue.

The battleground state has a history of being the electoral tipping point in presidential elections, sending Trump over to victory, gaining the 270 votes needed with its 10 votes, and doing the same for Biden in 2020.

Biden has made a number of stops in the state since the start of his campaign and the Badger state is expected to see many more motorcade visits before November.

Travel website's top 20 list includes 2 beach towns in or near Delaware. What earned nods?

kasauli why visit

Delaware is known for its beach towns, and one of them was selected as one of the top 20 in the country by a popular travel website.

Thrillist writers and editors named Rehoboth Beach as one of the top 20 in a list released in April. Down the road, Ocean City, Maryland, also made the list.

"Our group of travel writers have pulled the best of the best, places where those sands give way to dreamy towns, where the locals vibe with the visitors, and the food and drink become the stuff of endless summer memories," the site wrote of the list.

'Fun for all'

Alongside a bizarre reference to “buff dudes” in “supernaturally small speedos,” Thrillist hyped Rehoboth’s LGBTQ community, its boardwalk, amusement parks, free summer concerts and its proximity away from the more youthful good times in Dewey Beach.

“It’s also a haven for craft beer nerds: Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione can often be seen skateboarding around town, and his flagship brewpub and restaurant, Chesapeake & Maine, is one of the first signs you’ve made it to the beach,” the website states.

BEST BEACHES: This Jersey Shore beach ranks among top 25 in the U.S.

Among the top attractions, Thrillist listed sushi at The Cultured Pearl, Henlopen City Oyster House’s raw bar, partying at Blue Moon and taking a bike ride to see homes you’ll never be able to afford around Silver Lake.

Forever trapped in the '80s

Thrillist says everybody loves Ocean City because it's forever trapped in the ‘80s, citing the “vast majority” of hotels and rental properties built around that decade.

“Nothing from the outdoor cover band at Seacrets to the French fries at Thrasher’s seems to have changed,” the website states.

The website hypes eating food with Old Bay seasoning and fries with vinegar along with drinking an orange crush at Harborside Bar and Grill.

Travel+Leisure, another popular travel website, also named Ocean City among its 25 best beaches in the country .

Pregnancy-related deaths are dropping. Here's why doctors aren't satisfied.

Side pregnant black woman standing next to window

The number of women dying while pregnant is returning to pre-pandemic levels following a worrisome 2021 spike, a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows.

In 2022, 817 U.S. women died either while pregnant or soon after giving birth, down from 1,205 the previous year.

“If you look at 2021, we had such a sharp increase as we were really still in the pandemic and still dealing with disruptions of care, the fear of coming into the healthcare space and the inability to access care during that time,” said Dr. Veronica Gillispie-Bell, an OB-GYN at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, Louisiana. She was not involved in the new report, which was published Thursday by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics .

The maternal mortality rate in 2022 was 22.3 deaths per 100,000 live births, compared with 32.9 per 100,000 in 2021, according to the new report.

“It’s looking like it’s returning to a pre-pandemic level,” said Donna Hoyert, the report’s author and an NCHS health scientist. The same appears to be true for preliminary 2023 data , she said.

Decreases were noted across all age groups and races, though Black women continue to be disproportionately affected. Their maternal mortality rate was 49.5 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2022. In 2021, it was 69.9 deaths per 100,000.

“We still have a long way to go to create really meaningful prevention interventions and strategies to decrease mortality,” said Dr. Warner Huh, an OB-GYN and head of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, “particularly among Black women and women of color.” Huh was not involved with the NCHS report.

The accuracy of NCHS's maternal mortality data, which comes from death certificates, has long been scrutinized . More than a decade ago, the research group noted that many deaths among pregnant women were not being counted because of a problem with medical coding.

In 2003, the NCHS tried to correct the issue by recommending that states add a standardized checkbox to the certificates to make it clear whether the death occurred in a pregnant or recently pregnant woman. It wasn't until 2017 that all states made the change.

A study published last month suggested the checkbox rule grossly overestimated rates of maternal mortality because it wasn’t nuanced enough to determine whether the cause of death was truly related to pregnancy.

Gillispie-Bell, also the medical director of the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative at the state’s department of health, said she disagreed with those findings because they did not account for mental health conditions.

And according to CDC data, the most common cause of death during or just after pregnancy is related to mental health conditions, which include drug and alcohol use disorder.

Hoyert said her group continues to refine the quality of the data.

“If we didn’t use the checkbox, we would be right back where we were in the past, when we were getting roundly criticized for missing a substantial percent of maternal deaths,” she said.

While it appears that the numbers are “trending in the right direction,” Huh said, “they’re still too high.”

“No mother should come into pregnancy with a fear that she is going to die delivering her baby,” Gillispie-Bell said. “As long as mothers are dying, we still have work to do.”

Terrion Arnold Film Review: Why Rookie CB Can Be Special

What skills stand out from Arnold's time at Alabama?

  • Author: Christian Booher

In this story:

The Detroit Lions have put themselves in a position to not need rookie starters on either side of the ball. They attacked the offseason and brought in veterans in many of their areas of need.

No position has more new faces than cornerback, as the Lions brought in a total of four newcomers between free agency, trades and the draft.

Among the new faces is first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold , for whom the Lions traded up to ensure they could select him.

Arnold projects as a player who could start from Day 1, though the state of the current Lions roster may not necessitate it. He is multi-talented with the versatility to play inside in the slot and outside on the boundary.

Here are five takeaways from reviewing Arnold’s film while playing at Alabama.

Balance and fluidity

Arnold’s technique is sound, as he does a good job of staying on top of routes at all levels. His backpedal is smooth, and he wastes little time resetting and jumping on breaks in opposing routes. He’s able to come down on shorter routes, plus maintain his pedal and stay in phase on deeper routes.

Where this skill really shines is in his jumps on passes. He has instincts that allow him to be around the ball at all times, and this shows itself in particular on routes to the boundary. He’s able to use the sideline as an extra defender and break in order to make a play on the ball.

It’s clear that Arnold has strong preparation habits, as he trusts his instincts to be in the right place at the right time. He has a strong understanding of down-and-distance, which allows him to remain in the correct positions.

Ball skills

Arnold was the most prolific defensive back in the SEC last season, leading the conference in interceptions and passes defensed. A lot of this comes from skill, but there are football IQ aspects that allow him to be successful as well.

The defender has plenty of feel for situations, which allows him to anticipate where the ball will be. Once the ball is in the air, he is tough for opponents to fend off, because of his ability to go catch the ball with his hands rather than let it travel to his body.

Additionally, playing for Nick Saban lends itself to a solid understanding of the game. Saban's secondary scheme is notoriously complex and difficult for young players to grasp, but Arnold was a two-year starter with plenty of experience.

He also has a concept of timing, as he’s able to stay in the right spot for deflections and passes that are batted around. As a result, Arnold projects as a player who should have success at taking the ball away at the NFL level.

It’s not hard to see why the Lions were drawn to Arnold. The Lions have built their culture around tough players and want their defensive backs to be able to tackle. That’s Arnold in a nut-shell.

He does an adequate job at block-shedding on runs to the edge, and uses his strength to not allow blockers to drive him out of the play. As a result, he’s able to stifle opposing run attempts.

Another area where this skill shines through is on screens . As he’s often the targeted force defender, designated most dangerous on screens to his side, he has to fight through opposing blocks. It’s no problem, though, as he has good body control that allows him to blow up screen passes.

Press technique

The Lions love their press-man coverage, and Arnold projects as a player who will be just fine playing within it. His footwork is very sound, which allows him to provide a counter for every jab that an opposing receiver throws at him.

He can tend to be a bit handsy when it comes to deeper routes, but his initial pop is strong and can sometimes derail an opposing wideout at the line of scrimmage . His feet are a huge asset in this area, as he’s able to stay balanced and not be fooled by opposing dekes.

This specific area is one that could define his tenure as a Lion, as Aaron Glenn’s defensive scheme is centered around it.

The biggest knock on Arnold’s resume is his lack of top-end deep speed . This could be an area where opponents target him. Though he’s able to stay in good position most of the time, he simply struggles to keep up at points.

Arnold is more quick than fast. He’s able to pound his feet and stay in phase, but could have a difficult time sticking with burners on deep posts or crossers at the next level. One area where the Lions could mask this is with a strong pass-rush, as it would limit the amount of time Arnold has to cover on every snap.

All in all, he’s a very solid prospect who is more than capable of starting from day one. Though he has his weaknesses, the pros outweigh the cons, and he should be a productive player in his rookie campaign.
