Have you just arrived in Benidorm and don't know where to start? Hop on a tourist bus and take a short tour of the city. You'll discover its best beaches , its great leisure areas and some parks where you can spend some quiet time with the little ones, making it much easier to organise your getaway or holiday. This will make it much easier for you to organise your getaway or holiday.

And if you have time, I recommend you discover incredible places just a few kilometres away . The best thing? You can also reach them by tourist bus. Do you want to know more? I'll tell you everything you need to know.

The best tourist buses in Benidorm

Getting around Benidorm is very easy. More than twenty bus lines criss-cross the city and will take you to all its nooks and crannies. But during your stay you should pay special attention to some unique vehicles: they are red and yellow, have two floors and are panoramic .

They really are part of the city 's urban transport network , but they are real tourist buses. They will allow you to get to know Benidorm better, and not just because they take you from one place to another. They also have an audio guide system so that you won't miss a single detail of everything you see.

As well as these panoramic buses that will allow you to discover Benidorm, there are two other tourist buses that will take you to nearby towns and places of great interest, such as Guadalest (where you can also book an excursion ), Altea or the Fuentes del Algar . So, whether you want to see the best of Benidorm in a day, or if your stay is longer, these panoramic and tourist buses of the municipal transport network are a must .

Book an excursion to Guadalest

Different routes of the tourist buses of Benidorm

There are four bus lines that you may want to know about. The most popular is number 30. But take note of these other numbers: 31, 16 and 18 . Any of them will allow you to get to know Benidorm and its surroundings in a different and fun way. What's more, getting on the panoramic buses is one of the most comfortable and entertaining activities to do with children in Benidorm .

As I said before, this is the most popular and the first option for getting around Benidorm on an open top bus. It has a terminus in the Rincón de Loix, the area with the highest number of skyscrapers in the city. In case you didn't know, there are more than 60 buildings over 80 metres high here.

The other end of this line is just at the other end, in the south of the town. On your journey from one end of the line to the other, which takes about an hour and a quarter , you'll pass some of **Benidorm'**s biggest attractions . What will you see?

  • Levante Beach : one of the most important beaches in Benidorm, with its more than two kilometres in length. Its promenade is lined with bars, terraces and nightclubs. In other words: it is the epicentre of fun.
  • Parque de l' Aigüera : it occupies an old ravine, reconverted in the 90's into a landscaped promenade with pine and palm trees. This park marks the separation between the old and the new Benidorm.
  • Parque de Elche : this is a small but charming urban park which is a prelude to the Poniente beach.
  • Poniente Beach : this is Benidorm's largest beach, the longest, with a length of more than three kilometres. But it is also a little quieter than the Levante beach, perfect for enjoying a relaxing day at the beach or the main water activities in Benidorm such as a Paddle Surf tour in Benidorm , a quad bike tour in Benidorm or a jet ski tour in Benidorm .
  • You will also pass very close to the famous Balcon del Mediterraneo , which you can visit when you get off the bus.

Bus line 31

Buses on this line are also panoramic and depart from the Rincón de Loix . However, their route is different, as they don't head south, but leave the city and head north to El Albir and Altea.

If you're planning to enjoy Benidorm in August , bear in mind that in the central summer months Benidorm's beaches are very busy. The beaches of El Albir and Altea are a little quieter, so they're a good alternative if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Benidorm for a few hours .

A note of interest, especially if your stay in the city isn't during the central months of the year: this line only runs between April and November . So what will you see? Some of the most beautiful spots on the Costa Blanca. A perfect plan if you want to take a day trip.

  • On your way you'll pass a unique natural area : the Serra Gelada Nature Reserve , a protected natural area. If you like hiking, my advice is to dedicate a morning or afternoon to reach its viewpoint. The views are spectacular.
  • Then you will reach El Albir , a hamlet of the neighbouring town of L'Alfàs del Pi. Don't miss either its beach or its particular Paseo de las Estrellas (Star Promenade). The latter has its own explanation: a famous film festival has been held here for more than three decades.
  • You can stay in El Albir or continue on to Altea . This village is known as the dome of the Mediterranean. Why? Because its charming, whitewashed town centre is crowned by a church with its deep blue tiled domes that stand out like a lighthouse in the landscape.

Lines 16 and 18

These are the two tourist lines (not panoramic) that will take you out of Benidorm to discover the surrounding area:

  • Line 16 : will take you to the charming village of Guadalest. This town overlooks the landscape from an imposing rock. It also hides some of the most curious museums, such as the miniature museum or the salt and pepper shakers museum.
  • Line 18 : will take you to the Fuentes del Algar, one of the most idyllic and photogenic spots in Alicante. Why are they so special? Because it is a succession of waterfalls that form pools of absolutely crystal clear water in a beautiful natural setting.

However, although you can get to these places in those tourist buses, my recommendation is that you book an excursion to Alicante and book an excursion to Guadalest . You will have a guide who will explain all the details that interest you. It is much less cold and more entertaining than a simple audio tour on a bus.

Book an excursion to Alicante

How much does a ticket for the Benidorm sightseeing buses cost?

The price of the tickets varies according to the line:

  • Lines 30 and 31 : Travel on these scenic buses costs around 6 euros . At certain times of the year, however, prices may be slightly lower. On the other hand, on both lines the ticket is purchased directly on the bus itself.
  • Lines 16 and 18 : the single ticket for travel on lines 16 and 18 is slightly cheaper . It costs approximately 4 euros. You will also get it from the drivers, to whom you can ask any questions you may have about the route or what you are going to see.

If your stay is long and you plan to enjoy Benidorm for three days or more, my advice is to opt for a tourist card . You have several possibilities: 24 hour card, 72 hour card and seven day card.

The price of the cards varies according to the duration of your stay and ranges from 11 to 40 euros . The great advantage is that with them you can get on the tourist buses of the four lines I have mentioned as well as those of any other urban line in Benidorm.

Book a guided tour in Benidorm

How do the tourist buses in Benidorm work?

As I explained, tickets are purchased on the bus itself. With a single ticket you can make a single journey . They are a good alternative if you just want to take a tour to get an idea of what the city is like as a plan to see Benidorm in a day . They are also good for travelling to Altea, Guadalest or the Fuentes del Algar on your own. If you're going to move around more and choose one of the tourist cards , there are a few things to bear in mind:

  • During their period of validity you can use them as much as you want .
  • There is no limitation on the number of journeys, bus lines or destinations.
  • The cards can only be purchased on the tourist lines: 16, 18, 30 and 31.
  • The period of validity of the cards starts from the first use .
  • The cards are for personal use only, i.e. they are not valid for groups .
  • They are purchased on the bus.

You may not find it necessary to buy these cards, but bear in mind that Benidorm is a big city. If during your stay you plan to take a dip in Aqualandia , go to Terra Natura or enjoy all the beaches, the fastest way to get around will be by bus and with these cards you will be able to do so freely.

And one last thing I would like to point out. The four tourist lines have an audio system that will allow you to get to know important aspects of the places you pass through. The audio is available in five languages : Spanish, English, French, German and Russian.

Book tickets for Aqualandia

Benidorm tourist bus timetables

The timetables vary a lot from one bus line to another . It is very important that you take this into account in order to get the most out of them, especially if you decide to buy a tourist card.

  • Line 30 : you won't have any problems with the panoramic buses on line 30. Their frequency varies according to the season , but in no case is it more than 60 minutes. They usually run from 9:30 am until after 10 pm.
  • Other lines : the timetables of the rest of the lines are shorter and depend much more on the tourist season. Therefore, the best advice is to check the timetables on the website once you are in Benidorm.

Advantages of using Benidorm's tourist buses

It's true that Benidorm has no ancient monuments and maybe that's why you don't think it's worth getting on a tourist bus. Don't make that mistake. It's always a good idea to travel on them . Why?

  • You will have a global vision of the city , which will allow you to locate the best beaches or the most atmospheric places to go for a walk or go out partying.
  • They allow you to get to other places of great tourist interest , to beaches less crowded than Benidorm's and to natural spots of great beauty.
  • The tourist buses in Benidorm actually belong to the urban transport lines. What does this mean? That their price is very affordable .

In the event that the urban route doesn't convince you or doesn't take you to places that interest you, there are always fun alternatives . You can pedal through the city, in fact, there are bike lanes for you to do so. Or, if you don't want to go out of your way, you can also book a Segway tour of Benidorm .

Tips related to Benidorm's tourist buses

Now that you know all the things you can do in Benidorm and how the Benidorm tourist buses work and all their advantages, there are only a few tips left to give you:

  • If you decide to take the panoramic bus tour and the sun is shining, don't forget to bring a hat and sunglasses , as well as sunscreen.
  • In case you want to visit Benidorm at night , the tourist buses are not a viable option after a certain hour . In any case, you can easily get around the main leisure areas of the city on foot.
  • Find out about the timetables , it's something you should insist on. Why? Because, as I have already explained, in some cases the frequency is reduced. The problem is not that you miss a bus, but that because of an oversight there is no service to return to Benidorm if you have decided to leave the city.
  • To be able to visit these towns at your leisure, my advice is to opt for a day trip to the Algar and Guadalest waterfalls . You'll be able to do it in a much more relaxed way.

Benidorm Sightseeing Bus

For most people just arriving for a holiday in a sunny seaside town or city, exploring the area and getting started on their tan is a priority; well you can do both when you take a journey on the open top Benidorm Sightseeing Bus. With block after block of high rise buildings, Benidorm can be disorientating for first time visitors and unless you're a single traveller with no set holiday itinerary, walking the streets looking for popular attractions and entertainment venues can just get frustrating, especially if you have kids in tow.

Benidorm Sightseeing Bus Routes

The city operates 4 different sightseeing routes with an audio guide in 5 different languages. The most popular route is the double decker open top line 3o which has air conditioning in the lower deck but offers the best views up top. This journey starts at the terminal in the popular city residential area of Rincón de Loix and heads along the busy Av. del Mediterráneo, which is a block up from Levante Beach and lined with popular shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. It continues through the city centre, down to Elche Park and along Poniente Beach Promenade before reaching Cala de Finestrat.

Line 31 also starts in Rincón de Loix and heads along Av. Dr. Severo Ochoa where the famous Benidorm Palace is located. The scenic journey continues through the seaside residential area of Albir and onwards to the picturesque town of Altea. Passengers wishing to take both journeys can simply hop off one and onto the other at the terminal in Rincón de Loix.

Compared to the south of the Costa Blanca, the inland areas around Benidorm are a lot greener and more mountainous where the scenic line 16 takes passengers to the mountaintop village of Guadalest, Spain's most visited village and a delight to explore with narrow cobbled streets, quaint roadside cafes and charming little museums. Line 18 goes to the equally as picturesque Algar Waterfalls, also located in the mountains surrounding Benidorm and home to one of the largest cactus gardens in Europe and the fun Dino Park, a favourite with the young ones. These two routes can be taken from various points along Levante and Poniente.

Benidorm Sightseeing Bus Tickets & Prices

  • Individual tickets for each route cost 5€
  • A discounted 24 hour ticket allows unlimited use for that period on lines 30 and 31
  • A discounted 72 hour ticket allows unlimited use for that period on lines 16 and 18
  • A discounted 7 day ticket allows unlimited use for that period on lines 16 and 18
  • The time period for tickets starts from the first use

Benidorm Sightseeing Bus

The majority of holidaymakers in Benidorm are regulars to the city who visit each summer for a well earned ‘knees up' and some fun in the sun, but if you're new to the city a great way to familiarise yourself is to take a Benidorm sightseeing bus.

Walking around the city is relatively straight forward and at every twist and turn there there is something new to discover such as hidden little tapas bars where you are still served a free tapa with your drinks order, unlike most of the ones in the popular tourist areas where this great tradition has been forgotten in favour of making more money. Walking in the peak summer months however can be extremely draining and after a few blocks your good intentions of exploring the city will more than likely be ditched in favour of a cold beer!

City Bus Routes

So, it's usually best to take a Benidorm sightseeing bus first and make notes of the areas of the city that most interest you then you can return on foot for a good wonder around. There are actually 4 sightseeing buses, 2 that take routes through the city and 2 that go to popular mountain attractions.

Bus Route 30 – This route starts in Rincón de L'oix and heads south along the busy Av. del Mediterráneo that runs parallel to Levante Beach. It then goes through the city centre and past the pretty Parque de Elx, also called Paloma Park as it's home to hundreds of white doves. Up next is Paseo de Poniente that runs parallel to Poniente Beach and offers great sea views. The final stop is just past the end of the beach at Cala de Finestrat where you can get off to explore or stay on for the return journey.

Bus Route 31 – Also starting in Rincón de L'oix, this route goes north along Av. Ametlla de Mar and Av. Dr. Severo Ochoa and onward to the beaches of Altea and Albir where you can enjoy a day on the beach, or if travelling on Tuesday morning visit the large and very popular Altea Tuesday Market, offering a great selection of market stalls including delicious fresh produce. As both of these routes start and end in Rincón de L'oix it is possible to jump from one to the other and do both in one go.

Countryside Bus Routes

Bus Route 16 – This is a lovely route that twists and turns through picturesque scenery to the beautiful mountaintop village of Guadalest, the most visited village in Spain. Entered through an enchanting tunnel, Guadalest is home to several interesting small museums, arts & crafts shops, roadside cafe's, tapas bars and restaurants. The views from the village tower are magnificent and reach all the way to the Bay of Altea.

Bus Route 18 – Equally as picturesque, this route takes you through the countryside to the picture perfect Algar Waterfalls. Also known as Les Fonts del Riu Algar, the falls have recently been declared one of the 10 most important natural pools in Spain and are situated in a Natural Park. Cascading through a series of gorges and rock pools, the falls are interlaced with walking trails and shady picnic spots where you can enjoy an icy dip in the crystal clear waters. You can take route 16 and 18 from various stops along both Levante and Poniente beaches.

Benidorm Sightseeing Bus Prices

  • All 4 bus routes offer information on the routes via audio broadcasting systems
  • Broadcasts are available in Spanish, English, German, Russian and French
  • Single tickets cost: 5€
  • Unlimited travel on all 4 routes is available with 24 hr, 72 hr and 7 day travel cards

The drivers prefer change; some have even refused to take notes, (even 5 euros) take the ticket from the machine after the driver has printed it. The ticket will often not make much sense, either in time or details about the stop, but keep it with you just in case you need to produce it.

open top bus tour benidorm

Review: The Big Bus Tour in New York City

I absolutely loved the Big Bus Tour in New York City. It’s the best way to go sightseeing in an open-top, hop-on hop-off, top-rated tour and explore the best New York attractions !

If this is your first-time visiting New York and you want to see all the top landmarks, this double-decker tour bus will take you there.

The Big Bus Tour in New York

You may be wondering if a hop-on hop-off bus is worth it. Absolutely, yes!

If you consider the time and money spent on transportation costs, waiting for buses, navigating the subway (which can be confusing for visitors), and getting from one point of interest to another, it is worth every dollar!

I had a great visit to New York City on Big Bus Tour. My goal was to show the city to some friends from Italy who were visiting the US for the first time.

Since we only had about two days to spend together, the hop-on hop-off was undoubtedly the best decision.

From our experience, we’ll answer commonly asked questions about the Hop-on Hop-off bus while visiting New York City.

Google Reviews

Why take the big bus tour in new york.

While seeing New York from the open-top deck of the double-decker bus, the city unfolded block by block with panoramic views from every angle.

As we traveled through the streets, the sights were unobstructed and new visual backdrops were revealed.

The towering skyscrapers and colorful billboards filled the air with excitement and as the cityscape continued to change, it gave a grand feeling to the experience.

I especially enjoyed being able to relax from the upper deck of the bus while taking in the energy of city scenes.

Because I also live in a large city, the rhythm felt familiar from the elevated vantage point .

Car horns were honking, crowds traversed through the streets and there was an endless hum of activity.

Best of all, the tour gave me the chance to interact with other travelers who were seeing New York while waiting for the tour to began.

We struck up conversations and exchanged stories, insights, and recommendations during our stay in New York.

How Much is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The regular price of an adult and child ticket is $60.00 and $50.00, respectively. However, you can use the link below for discounted fares.

How Long is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The round-trip New York City Big Bus Tour takes about two hours from start to finish.

The bus is the perfect solution for visitors worldwide because they offer pre-recorded audio narratives and translations in five languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English.

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

No. Unlike charter buses, you won’t travel long between stops. So the best thing to do is exit at a stop, find a public restroom, see an attraction, if desired, and then catch the next bus.

If you are not sure where to find one, ask a Big Bus guide on the street. The driver may also have some suggestions.

Charter buses come equipped with a bathroom because travel is expected to be for a much longer period.

How Does the Big Bus Tour Work in New York City

The tour offers three options for purchase — 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day.

When you decide the number of days of your tour and purchase your ticket, the clock starts when your ticket is scanned while boarding the bus for the first time.

The ticket is good for 24, 48, or 72 hours. So, if you have a 1-day ticket and board the bus at 11:00 AM on Monday, it can still be used until 11:00 AM on Tuesday.

We found a ton of touring options for sightseeing in New York.

Aside from the extended period, the 2 and 3-day tickets also offer discounted bike rentals.

The buses run every 20 minutes on average. However, the first stop at the M&M store can be a long wait during peak season.

You can exit or board at any of the designated stops as much as you want.

The only exclusion is the one-loop tour Night Tour which is a panoramic non-stop tour.

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in New York City

During the tour, the buses only stop at designated stops.

Your ticket is good for as long as the buses operate during the day and it may be used on both the red and blue routes.

When you board, make sure you get a hop-on hop-off New York bus route map!

Big Bus NYC Red Route

The red route sightseeing tour covers lower Manhattan and you’ll see many landmarks like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Wall Street, the Chrysler Building, and General Grant’s Tomb.

You can catch a tour at any one of the following bus stops and you can get your tickets in advance of boarding.

1 – M&M’s World – 7th Ave & W 48th St (Outside M&M World & Majestic Deli)

2 – Times Square East – W 42nd St & Broadway (at Knickerbocker Hotel)

3 – Empire State Building / Korea Town – 5th Ave & W 32nd St (at CVS Pharmacy)

4 – Flatiron District – 5th Ave & W 23rd St (at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop)

5 – SoHo – Broadway and Spring Street (at Nike Store)

6 – Chinatown / Little Italy – 100 Lafayette Street (near the corner at Walker St)

7 – Brooklyn Bridge – Park Row & Beekman St (across from 33 Park Row)

8 – Wall Street / Charging Bull – Broadway & Wall St (Southwest corner near Rector St)

9 – Statue of Liberty / Battery Park – State St and Bridge St (at Subway Entrance)

10 – Circle Line Sightseeing – 12th Ave & 40th St (opposite Pier 81)

11 – Times Square North – 7th Ave & W 50th St (at Majestic Deli)

Big Bus NYC Blue Route

The blue route covers upper Manhattan, and half of the ride is mostly views of Central Park. You can switch to the blue route at red stop #2.

We recommend changing routes at stop #11 (the Majestic Deli) where you can take a break and have a nice lunch.

12 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – 5th Ave & E 83rd St (near 83rd St)

13 – Central Park Zoo – 5th Ave & E 66th St (opposite 845 5th Ave)

14 – Columbus Circle – Central Park & Columbus Circle (SW corner of Central Park)

Tips and Things to Know Before You Go

The bus has two levels, the upper level offers panoramic views of the city but be careful of overhanging traffic lights and trees. Don’t stand while the bus is in motion.

  • After you find a seat, check the audio to confirm it is working.
  • Snacks are allowed. Bring a frozen bottle of water and protein bites to keep you energized.
  • When on the upper deck, cover up with sunscreen to protect your skin on hot sunny days.
  • If you are a family of 3 or more, take seats across from one another so you’ll have views and photos from both sides of the bus.

Tourists were lined up at stop #1 at least an hour before departure and the line extended the entire block and rounded the corner.

We decided to see other points of interest and returned around 11:00 AM.

The wait to board the bus was about 20 minutes. It was a relaxing ride and there we saw so much!

By the time we reached stop #9, we were pumped and ready to exit the bus so that we could explore the city! And you probably will be too.

Here’s the secret sauce that really made the experience memorable. Exit at stop #9 and take a FREE ferry to Staten Island.

To see the Statue of Liberty, stand on the left side of the boat. When returning, stand on the right side.

Final Thoughts About the Big Bus Tour in New York City

Overall, the tour was a pleasant way to see New York city and when you are on the upper deck, you hardly notice the traffic.

Some other advantages of seeing the city by bus include:

  • Avoiding parking hassles. I mean, who actually drives in New York?!
  • Photo opportunities. With the open-top or large windows, you have excellent photo opportunities as you pass by iconic landmarks and cityscapes.
  • Comprehensive sightseeing of major landmarks and attractions within two hours.
  • You can get local recommendations from the guides who operate the bus.

I usually opt for a hop-on hop-off bus when I am short on time or to get my bearings in the city before deciding what to do.

Either way, when you take the tour bus, it doesn’t appear impossible to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Happy Travels!
