Tea Around Town – An Afternoon Tea Bus in NYC

Tea Around Town – An Afternoon Tea Bus in NYC

Imagine enjoying afternoon tea while driving around New York City and seeing the sights. That is exactly what TopView Sightseeing offers with their Tea Around Town bus. I’ve lost track of how many friends and family sent me videos they saw online about it. They recently offered tickets for me to experience it for myself. I was excited to be able to share this experience with my mom since she was the one who started my love of tea.

What is Tea Around Town?

The experience, would i recommend it, want to check out tea around town for yourself use code teaforme5 for 5% off.

Tea Around Tow is a sightseeing tour bus that serves afternoon tea in New York City. The tour leaves from Bryant Park between 5th and 6th Avenue and takes approximately 90 minutes. There are two different ticket options. Premium admission is $109 per person. It includes priority seating, an enhanced menu, and a glass of prosecco. Standard admission is $69 per person and has a slightly smaller menu. The cost is the same for adults and children (ages 3 and older). There is a minimum purchase of two tickets.

The picture below shows the menu that was served. There were several vegan and gluten-free options, but you were not able to customize the selections. Our servers, Umberto and Kenny, did ask if we had any allergies. Our tray had deviled eggs instead of the Sunburst Wheel. Neither of us like lobster so it would have been nice if we had been able to swap the Lobster Love out rather than have them go to waste.

Things did not start on a good foot. My reservations were canceled twice in a row with less than 24 hours notice because they had not met their ticket quota for those trips. I was only coming from New Jersey, but I can imagine how disappointing that would be for someone who was traveling from far away. We did manage to get onto a trip scheduled for earlier in the day after calling customer service.

Once we were in Bryant Park, it was not very obvious where the bus would be leaving from. We stood in the exact spot that their directions had said to, but there was no bus in sight. I spotted staff from Top View Sightseeing much further down the block and asked where we should be. They were a bit snippy in their response to me and several other people. It would have been helpful if there had been a sign or some other indication of where this specific tour leaves from. It is a very busy area with a lot of different buses coming and going.

While we waited for the bus to arrive our guide, Suzanna, quizzed everyone with some tea trivia. Since we had premium admission we were seated on the top tier of the bus. It was lavishly decorated with silk flowers and rhinestones with pink and gold accents.

tea rooms tour

A tiered tray with all of the food was already waiting for us at the table. My mom had never had a real afternoon tea like this so she was excited to dig in. Rather than having us select a tea, the servers poured a small amount of different selections throughout the trip. The teas were brewed ahead of time and poured out of caraffes. The drinking cups were plastic, which isn’t ideal but understandable given that we were on a moving bus. I thought it was smart that cup holders were built into the tables. Hot Apple Spice was my favorite.

I’m happy to report that all of the savory and sweet options were very tasty. The pumpkin and chocolate mousse tarts were probably my favorites. The restrooms were out of order during our trip, which can be a problem when drinking so much tea. Thankfully Bryant Park is home to one of the nicest public restrooms in New York City so we went straight there when the trip was finished. We had originally planned to go out for dinner that evening but found we were both still full from tea.

tea rooms tour

The route for Tea Around Town took us past many New York City landmarks such as Grand Central Station, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, and Central Park. Suzanna pointed out landmarks and interesting facts. She also serenaded us with several songs. I did not know that was an aspect of this tour, but I enjoyed it very much. The Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center had just gone up a few days prior but we couldn’t see it because it was covered in scaffolding. I worked in the city for many years and still go there often so I was very familiar with everything we saw, but it was fun to get to play tourist for the day.

tea rooms tour

Despite the issues that we had at the beginning, my mom and I very much enjoyed the experience with Tea Around Town. It was a unique and interesting way to see the city while enjoying tea and small bites. The pricing is pretty on par with the other afternoon teas that are offered in the city, especially considering that the tour is included. It’s not something that I am likely to do often, but I would go again in the future if friends or family are visiting.

Have you ever been to Tea Around Town? What did you think of it? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!

Is there a ladies room on the bus?

There is a restroom (unisex, I believe. Unfortunately it was out of order when I went.

Did you tip the driver and the hostesses as there are so ma y added fees when ai am purchases 12 tickets

Yes, the servers stood by the exit with a basket for tips at the end of the tour. I would definitely check with the company to see if they might be able to offer a discount for such a large group.

Do you think this tour is better during the day or would it still be fun at night. We were thinking of taking the 7:30 pm tour. Thinking the city lights would be pretty but maybe there’s some things on the tour that look better in daylight.

I definitely think the tour would be fun at night. The lights in the city very pretty, especially around Rockefeller Center.

Do you know if they allow you to bring your own alcoholic beverage on board?

I don’t believe they do. When I took the tour they gave a glass of Prosecco but that seems to have been changed to non-alcoholic options.

Are all the seats on the top? how would the views be on the bottom of the bus?

There are seats on both the top and bottom. I didn’t sit on the bottom, but I do think the view might less advantageous for picture taking.

Tea Around Town

You can now take a charming afternoon tea bus tour around NYC

Pinkies up!

Afternoon tea may be more synonymous with our cousins across the pond, but that doesn't mean New Yorkers don't know their way around a cup of Earl Grey and some finger sandwiches. And now you can enjoy that midday cuppa and all of those fancy little fixings while touring around town on a decked-out sightseeing bus.

RECOMMENDED:  The best afternoon tea NYC has to offer, with scones and all the traditional trappings

TopView Sightseeing has launched Tea Around Town , a first-of-its-kind three-course afternoon tea experience aboard one of the company's double-decker buses, which has been transformed into a " mobile  tea  room” complete with tables set for two and four people (the whole bus seats 42 guests), pink-and-white striped seats, gilded place settings and floral garlands throughout. It gives Bridgerton and Barbie all at once.

On Sunday, we hopped on the bus to check out this sweet new thing to do and it was almost everything we’d hoped for.

Along with enjoying bottomless tea and three tiers of scones with the requisite clotted cream and jam, sandwiches (classic cucumber, egg-mayonnaise) and sweet treats like macarons and mini fruit tarts, there was live music from a singer onboard and informative commentary about the iconic NYC landmarks featured throughout the 90-minute bus tour, including Rockefeller Center , Radio City Music Hall and the Chrysler Building , all of which we saw through the glass roof.

Tea Around Town

There are two tiers of tickets options to Tea Around Town: Standard Admission, which includes the standard afternoon tea menu and private table seating for $69 (not including fees), and Premium Admission, which boosts the experience with priority boarding, a premium enhanced menu with luxe items like mini lobster rolls and Wagyu beef tartare, and a glass of sparkling wine for $109 (excluding fees).

Take a peek at the standard and premium food menus:

Tea Around Town

While the sparkling wine was a refreshing addition, the extra bites weren’t enough to warrant paying more, in our opinion.

The overall experience was lovely—and maybe the best way to take in midtown—and a really nice afternoon out in NYC.

The bus rolls out every day at noon, along with a 2:30pm tour on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

22 Best Spots For Afternoon Tea Across The US

Afternoon tea with decor

Rooted in the 19th-century English aristocracy, the practice of afternoon tea –- which starts with finger sandwiches, transitions to scones with clotted cream and jam, and finishes with elaborate pastries –- has gracefully traversed the Atlantic and garnered a warm welcome across the diverse landscapes of the United States.

The beauty of afternoon tea lies not only in the delectable offerings but also in the ritual accompanying it. As the fragrant steam rises from a carefully-brewed teapot, one is transported to a world where time slows down, thus allowing for the appreciation of life's simple pleasures. Tea rooms and hotels have embraced this quintessentially British tradition and infused it with its own unique charm. And since America is a melting pot of cultures, you can also find plenty of afternoon tea spots that have nothing to do with the Brits and instead pay homage to the fine tea traditions present in countries like Russia and Japan. So, let's take a look at which establishments provide the best afternoon tea experiences across the U.S., based on personal experience and professional and Google reviews.

Palm Court at the Plaza in New York, NY

Afternoon tea at The Plaza might just be the pinnacle of the classic tea experience on this side of the Atlantic. You can choose menu options ranging from the Manhattan Tea, Plaza Signature Tea, or, for the little ones, the Eloise Tea, named after the children's books.

Each menu will have all the trappings of a fine English afternoon tea , all served in the grand setting of the Palm Court. The tea selection is courtesy of Palais des Thés, but there is also plenty of bubbly on hand — otherwise, it wouldn't be proper afternoon tea. Expect typical finger sandwiches with a twist, like a trusty cucumber with mint labneh, tarragon, and pickled mustard seeds.

Astra in the St. Regis in San Francisco, CA

If you're after a traditional British setting for your afternoon tea, this is not quite it, but it should also not be dismissed. The signature tea experience comes with a wooden box containing glass vials of tea, from which you can choose the special blend you want to try.

But mostly, you'll want to go for the seasonal afternoon tea menu devised to suit holidays or special events, such as the Lunar New Year afternoon tea. Either way, you'll be treated to exquisite TEALEAVES tea tailor-made to suit the St. Regis' high standards, with options including Pu-Erh Tou Cha, Imperial Dragonwell, Organic Jasmine Pearl, or Iron Goddess of Mercy.

Camellias at Hotel Bennett in Charleston, SC

Afternoon tea is all about old-world pleasures. It helps us imagine we're in a faraway land from long ago, living the life of an aristocratic figure. Surely, drinking tea must be what they did all day. Luckily, Charleston, with its genteel Southern ways, is the perfect setting to facilitate this type of imaginative play. Such is especially true at Camellias, located in the Hotel Bennett.

The champagne lounge is an ideal spot for afternoon tea, also because what better drink is there than bubbly to kick off such an event? Just don't dress in pink from head to toe, or you might end up blending into your surroundings — never to be seen again.

Tipsy Tea Party at the Gwen Hotel in Chicago, IL

While most afternoon tea events are tranquil and sometimes subdued affairs, the Tipsy Tea Party at the Gwen Hotel in Chicago is anything but. First of all, as the name suggests, the booze takes center stage, although the tea remains an integral part of the afternoon. Second, and most shockingly, there is also a live DJ present in the room.

The most fun part, though, is the cocktails. Unlike your usual afternoon tea, which comes with a glass of sparkling wine to kick things off, the Tipsy Tea Party provides you with a whole host of fun tea-based cocktails to choose from, such as the Getaway Car: a warm and fuzzy combination of bourbon, lemon, and oolong tea.

Le Salon at The Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, LA

A hotel named The Windsor Court is bound to evoke the aristocratic feel of a proper afternoon tea. Aside from the royal name, the decor is traditionally English with a touch of Southern charm, and live harp or piano music can be heard at any given time.

Expect the afternoon to unfold in an equally traditional way. Tea begins with a glass of sparkling wine or a light cocktail, followed by your tea of choice, along with finger sandwiches. Next in line are the scones, which can be enjoyed with cream and jam, and finally, a selection of sophisticated desserts. Up the ante by choosing one of many themed teas, like the Mad Hatter or Mardi Gras teas.

The Russian Tea Room in New York, NY

If you don't think you'll have time to grab dinner before your show at nearby Carnegie Hall, afternoon tea at the Russian Tea Room is the ideal option. That way, you can while away the afternoon and take time your time to enjoy your meal without having to rush to catch the next showtime.

Founded in 1927 by members of the Russian Imperial Ballet, this iconic establishment has been going strong for almost 100 years, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in addition to afternoon tea. This might also be one of the few places where you can add caviar to your uniquely Russian tea experience.

The Dandelion in Philadelphia, PA

British cuisine may not be as well-known as Asian or Indian food. But that has changed very much over the years with the rise of the British gastropub and, of course, the proliferation of afternoon tea. The Dandelion in Philadelphia does both meals well, especially when enjoyed in its beautiful Victorian-style dining room.

Order the traditional afternoon tea experience with the typical sandwiches, scones, and pastries — also known as A Royal Occasion. Or you can keep it light and simple by just ordering the sandwiches — or sticking to the pastries. The tea selection is short but sweet, courtesy of Teapigs.

Willard Peacock Alley Tea in Washington D.C.

Although afternoon tea can easily be made entirely vegetarian — as it's often  made up of cucumber sandwiches and meat-free pastries anyway — it hardly ever is. This is not the case for the Willard Peacock Alley Tea at the Hotel Intercontinental in Washington, D.C., where there is a delightful vegetarian afternoon tea menu, as well as options for a vegan-only or omnivorous affair. The various teas are provided by the J'enwey Tea Company and the scones are baked fresh every day.

Sipping tea at the Williard is an afternoon treat dating back to the 1920s. Snacking on sandwiches and enjoying the company of your friends will make you feel like you're stepping back into history.

Lady Mendl's Tea Salon in New York, NY

While most afternoon teas are technically three-course affairs — between the sandwiches, scones, and pastries — the one at Lady Mendl's Tea Salon is a whopping five courses. The additional dishes consist of soup or salad to start, then crepês served between the scones and the pastries.

If you still have room after all of this, plus the requisite tea, start the afternoon with a fine glass of sparkling wine or a cocktail with a whimsical name, like the Butterfly Effect or the Rose Petal Fizz. This is the ideal spot and menu for a restful afternoon event with friends or a low-key baby shower.

The Living Room at Peninsula Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, CA

If you can only pick one place for afternoon tea while in Los Angeles, let it be the Living Room at the Peninsula Hotel Beverly Hills. While many establishments that offer afternoon tea only do so on the weekend, the Living Room offers this service every day of the week.

This location takes afternoon tea very seriously. The sandwiches, to start, amp up traditional fare by adding exquisite new ingredients, like caviar on the smoked salmon sandwich or mint and pumpernickel bread to the cucumber sandwich. And the pastries are just as ingenious, including the decadent three chocolate cake or the peanut caramel cupcake.

Brown Palace in Denver, CO

Denver may be more closely associated with the historic lawlessness of the Wild West than the civility of an afternoon tea. But times have changed, and the Brown Palace can whip up as good an afternoon tea as any the King might enjoy back in Britain. In fact, the Devonshire cream provided with a plate of Brown Palace's scones comes directly from merry England.

Even so, many ingredients used to prepare the food are local and seasonal, including the honey, which comes from the hotel's rooftop bee colonies. Order the Brown Palace Signature Tea for a booze-free option, or go for the teas that come with Chandon or Veuve Clicquot Champagnes.

The Courtyard Tea Room in Boston, MA

Afternoon tea is a relaxed affair, which is why it works well with the vibe of the Courtyard Tea Room inside the Boston Public Library — which we consider one of the most relaxing places on Earth. You hardly notice that you're actually in the city's bustling center.

Order your tea from a vast selection of high-quality varieties and complement it with a craft cocktail, as this establishment provides some exciting propositions. The Perfect Pair will complete your tea dreams with its house-made matcha liquor, matcha powder, and coconut creme, while the Snowbird will keep you bright and spritely with its mandarin-infused bourbon, orange cranberry sugar water, Disaronno Amaretto, fresh lime juice, and ginger beer.

Emperor Georgiu's Tea Room in Portland, OR

This afternoon tea experience is out of this world — not just because the fare is incredible. While themed afternoon teas abound, especially for children, many of them tend to be Disney-related or inspired by literature. Finally, Emperor Georgiu's Tea Room –- which is a queer, black, and neurodivergent-owned business -– brings us a Star Trek-inspired afternoon tea.

As you can imagine, this is not your typical afternoon tea experience. This tea room, which is named after a Star Trek character, offers the Emperor's Tea service — which includes a bottomless pot of tea, toasted crumpets, a chai spice scone, sage and white bean finger sandwich, and pear upside-down cake. Diners can also substitute items for vegan or gluten-free selections.

The Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas, NV

If you need to get away from the incessant kitsch of Las Vegas, head to the elegant Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria for one of the most sophisticated dining experiences in Las Vegas. Afternoon tea is available every day on the 23rd floor of the building, which offers beautiful views of the city.

A typical afternoon tea here will come with freshly brewed loose-leaf tea, a host of innovative finger sandwiches, including the curry chicken sandwich on curry turmeric bread or the porchetta with mustard relish mayo on multigrain bread, fresh scones, and petit fours that are as pretty to look at as they are good to eat.

Gracie's in Portland, OR

Enjoy a stately afternoon tea at Gracie's in Portland. The interior features intricate crown molding, elaborate chandeliers, and other sophisticated touches. The restaurant also offers some very fine custom-blended teas that you won't find anywhere else.

There's the Portland Breakfast, which is as strong as its English counterpart but includes hints of spice and peat. Or there's the Silent Night for those seeking a caffeine-free experience and, indeed, a very silent and restful night. This blend leans heavily into the peppermint flavors, which perfectly match the subdued elements of cinnamon, ginger, and licorice. Oregonian wines are deployed to provide the perfect pairing for the scones, savory sandwiches, and other offerings.

The Tea House on Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano, CA

Given the upscale feel of Orange County, it's hardly a surprise that great spots for afternoon tea abound. The Tea House on Los Rios, located in San Juan Capistrano, is one of these top spots. This family-run operation is conducted out of a renovated cottage, which is a big part of its charm.

Afternoon tea here can come in several forms. There's the Royal Tea, which starts with a fine glass of Veuve Clicquot followed by the usual tea accouterments, plus a mixed green salad and fresh fruit. The Victorian Tea launches with a mimosa or sparkling cider and adds a specialty soup to the mix. Finally, there's a more locally-inspired, alcohol-free Mission Tea.

Brooklyn High Low in New York, NY

Afternoon tea is typically a long and relaxed affair that lasts for well over an hour. For an experience like that, opt for the Classic prefix menu at Brooklyn High Low, which includes high-quality finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries, along with bottomless pots of tea.

But if you're in a hurry but still want your warm beverage, this place has you covered with the quick and easy Cream Tea, served on Fridays between 2 and 5 p.m. This service lasts no longer than 45 minutes, which still leaves you with plenty of time to enjoy a pot of tea, vegetarian sandwiches, and scones.

The Maybourne in Beverly Hills, CA

Afternoon tea is served on the terrace of The Maybourne Beverly Hills on weekends between 2 and 4 p.m. The experience is fairly traditional, complete Laurent-Perrier Champagne and all the usual trappings, and centered in a sophisticated atmosphere. But it also stands out because of its use of local ingredients, like jam from Los Angeles-based Sqirl.

It should come as no surprise that The Maybourne serves a very fine afternoon tea. After all, its sister hotel, the Claridges in London, is one of the most iconic places in the world for this type of meal and perhaps the place that sets the gold standard.

The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN

Afternoon tea at The Hermitage Hotel infuses a strong dose of Nashville into the experience without diluting any of the British charm. Visitors can enjoy the Spillin' Tea with Draper James menu, which was inspired by Reese Witherspoon's recipes in her cookbook "Whiskey in a Teacup." It's an aptly named publication to be translated into an afternoon tea menu and was fleshed out with the perfect array of loose-leaf teas, scones, and pastries in mind.

But the theme also changes regularly, so don't be surprised if you run into an entirely different menu next time you go. For example, past themes include a "Bridgerton" style afternoon tea, complete with gossip from Lady Hermitage and fantastic finger sandwiches to boot.

The Whitby Hotel in New York, NY

Specialty teas at the Whitby Hotel's afternoon tea range from strong, warm assam chai to tender, bright white peony bai mudan. Caffeine-free options and infusions are also available.

The simple afternoon tea menu is as traditional as it gets, starting with the glass of champagne that sets the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The sandwiches include smoked salmon with crème fraîche, egg salad, English cucumber, and Coronation chicken , while the scones are always accompanied by clotted cream. To go all out, though, order the Royal Tea for Two, which also includes caviar and blinis.

Bar Pendry in Chicago, IL

For a great excuse to get boozy on a Sunday morning or early afternoon, book a tea session at Bar Pendry, located in Chicago. This elegant tea service sheds all notions of stuffiness and focuses on a quality experience for visitors. The Bar Pendry offers plenty of high-end tea options courtesy of Rare Cellars Tea and interesting variations on traditional finger sandwiches, like the koji beef carpaccio sandwich on brioche with house-made ricotta.

Since this is a particularly boozy afternoon tea, don't be surprised to find tea-and-alcohol cocktails aplenty, such as the Welcome Home, served hot with Sipsmith Gin, Leblon Cachaça, Jasmine green tea syrup, and lemon.

Cha-An Tea House in New York, NY

The Brits are by no means the only people who know tea. The British developed the palate for tea after bringing it to the Isles from China in the 1600s. So, it's high time we look to Japan when it comes to afternoon tea. To that end, there is Cha-An, a simple but welcoming Japanese tea room in New York.

This tea room offers rotating selections, including the Hojicha afternoon tea. It doesn't resemble anything from a traditional Brisith afternoon tea, which is reason enough to visit. Guests can choose between Japanese roasted green tea or rose green tea, and the food menu includes a hojicha roll cake with fruit and a series of bento-like seasonal dessert boxes. Meanwhile, the savory element includes inari with cucumber and tomato and mini salmon dons.

We’re popular, but don’t just take our word for it.

Definitely pay for the premium.

My friend and I enjoyed the premium Tea Around Town experience in early January, and it was such a treat! You can tell the team puts a lot of heart and intention into making it a special time for their guests. The interior of the bus was beautiful! Definitely pay for the premium seating if you can.

The experience was lovely

The experience was lovely even though the weather was dreary. Kudos to the staff. Excellent, professional service. Joe, Jhana and Isla were great. The presentation of the food and the bus were beautiful. The hors d'oeuvres were tasty and plentiful.

The food and tea were above average

Afternoon tea is one of my favorite things in the entire world. I’ve done it in many places here in the US, all around the UK, and as far away as Dubai. I’ve had tea on a double-decker bus in London and in Dublin. Tea Around Town in NYC was wonderful.

Searching for the best afternoon tea in Dublin? You’ve landed in the right place!

Since hitting the publish button on a guide to the best breakfast in Dublin a while back, we’d had heaps of emails from people asking about afternoon tea recommendations.

So here we are! The Victorian tradition of tea served with a variety of savoury and sweet spreads in the afternoon has proved pretty popular in Dublin.

Below, you’ll find plenty of excellent places for afternoon tea in Dublin City Centre and beyond, for those of you that fancy a mid-day treat. Dive on in!

The first section of our guide is what  we  think is the best afternoon tea Dublin has to offer. These are places that one or more of The Irish Road Trip Team have been to.

Below, you’ll find everywhere from the swanky Shelbourne Hotel and the Merrion to the The Vintage Teapot and more.

1. The Shelbourne (from €55 p/p)

The Shelbourne

The Shelbourne is arguably the most historic setting for afternoon tea in Dublin City Centre. This lavish 5-star hotel is one of the most famous hotels in the country and its interior screams indulgence.

Their busy Lord Mayor’s Lounge offers elegant Afternoon Tea with an Irish twist. Expect to find foods like homemade scones with jam and clotted cream and whiskey-cured salmon with Guinness bread.

There’s a Classic Afternoon Tea for €55 per person and a Champagne Afternoon Tea from €73 per person.

Make your way to the Vintage Teapot , a lovely tearoom spread over three floors that are famed for its charming décor (expect everything from silk cushions to oriental paintings).

This place has its own version of Afternoon Tea with delicacies such as macaroons, blinis, and a wide range of Asian sweets. They also offer an extensive range of traditional Chinese teas on their menu that is printed on bamboo.

If you wish to read a book while enjoying your Afternoon Tea, you can do so from the comfort of a little reading corner with both Chinese and English literature.

2021 Update:  I’ve just phoned the Vintage Teapot to check the price, as it seems too good to be true. However, they confirmed it’s still €15 p/p, making it the best value afternoon tea Dublin has to offer.

3. The Atrium Lounge (from €49 p/p)

Situated inside the 5-star Westin Hotel, the Atrium Lounge is a good option if you’re looking for a refined setting for your tea and treats.

The inviting décor and the tastefully decorated courtyard make a perfect setting for an alfresco Afternoon Tea experience.

On the menu, you will find freshly baked scones, sandwiches, and delicate desserts. They also offer a Tome for Gin Afternoon Tea options that includes crayfish mayonnaise and popcorn panna cotta.

If you’re looking for the best afternoon tea in Dublin to mark a special occasion, what’s on offer at the swanky Westin Hotel is well worth checking out.

You’ll also get a good look at Dublin City, as the bus passes everywhere from  St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Christ Church to Trinity College , the Phoenix Park and more.

2. The Cake Café (from €27.45 p/p)

The Cake Café

You will find the amazing Cake Café right behind Dublin’s bustling Camden Street. This sunny little tea room and bohemian bakery is one of the more popular cafes in Dublin .

Mainly thanks to the mouthwatering desserts and pastries, like cupcakes and chocolate brownies, that it dishes out each day.

The Afternoon Tea is served daily and includes delicious cakes, sandwiches, soups, and a glass of prosecco. If you are on a budget and wish to enjoy some tasty cakes, a visit to this venue is simply a must.

3. The Morrison Hotel (from €32 p/p)

The Morrison Hotel

If you’re in search of an alternative version of afternoon tea in Dublin, then this next place should be right up your street.

Offering a modern take on the traditional Afternoon Tea, the Morrison Hotel is famed for its chic décor and upbeat vibe.

There are several different options to choose from: The Fancy Pants Tea, The Gentlemen’s Tea, the Vegan Afternoon Tea and the Wheat Free Afternoon Tea.

4. Airfield Estate (update: currently on hold)

Located in Dundrum, Airfield Estate is a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the Dublin city centre.

The seasonal Afternoon Tea menu includes both savoury and homemade sweet treats and a nice selection of teas. They only use the freshest seasonal produce which actually grows in the estate’s gardens.

If you are looking for a relaxing destination where you can enjoy tasty foods and admire magnificent garden and mountain views, make sure to stop by the Airfield Estate for Afternoon Tea.

2021 Update: I just called Airfeld (Nov 10th) to check if this was still running, and they said that it’s on hold at the minute, but that it’s likely to be back soon.

5. The Hazel House (€20 p/p)

The Hazel House cafe

Next up is arguably the most unique afternoon tea Dublin has to offer (it’s also a great spot to bring kids!). Welcome to the Hazel House, an Irish craft café, woodwork shop, and a petting farm.

Located outside the city centre in Tibradden , this cool venue offers everything from delicious foods to live music and a bunch of different workshops.

Their version of Afternoon Tea comes with a glass of prosecco. If you are feeling adventurous, go on a hike to the summit of the nearby Tibradden Mountain.

2021 Update:  I’ve just called these lads to check prices. They said you need to book this at least a day in advance.

secret garden tea tours

Small group tours with an emphasis on afternoon tea.

circular tea tour logo.png

Join us to explore a region's beautiful scenery, history, culture through its landscapes, architecture, and gardens while enjoying afternoon tea each day, with plenty of shopping opportunities too!

Our tour are deliberately  kept to no more than  14 people so that we can are able to get into tiny tea rooms and antique shops and other places that big tour groups cannot.  This also means that we can move about more easily, using a variety of transportation modes.  We don’t climb into a big bus and just see the sights as we pass by. We hop aboard trains and boats and carriages and trolleys and trams to experience the area. We love to use public transportation whenever possible so we can immerse ourselves  in the area we are exploring  and feel like temporary locals.

And speaking of experiences, we include them in the tour cost. We don’t sell “optional” tours, because we feel that if there’s something wonderful to see or do, we should include it! We try to allow enough time in each city to experience much of what it offers and have some free time to pursue individual interests.

*****   Healthy Travel  Policy *****

It is our goal to have zero illness on our tours, so that guests can fully participate in all we have planned. This requires every participant to take all necessary  precautions to avoid contracting Covid, the flu, RSV and any other transmittable illnesses.   All guests must sign our Healthy Travel Pledge as part of their application.   We ask that guests wear masks during air travel other than while eating or drinking and to wear masks on public transportation and in crowded indoor tourist sites.

We spent a lot of time talking to repeat tour participants and reading travel/tour operator blogs and did not arrive at our decision to implement a Healthy Travel Policy without considering a lot of information. Travel is expensive and many of us are unwilling to risk spending the money to get somewhere wonderful, only to become ill and confined in a hotel room. If one person in a small group tour picks up a bug (be it a cold, RSV, the flu or Covid), it is very likely to spread to others in the group, some of whom may have underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of becoming seriously ill from any bug. For instance, someone with diabetes will likely experience blood sugar spikes to dangerous levels which causes many other problems. Many of our tour participants are in an age group which is more likely to have underlying health issues, and with the high cost of travel, we have taken a stand that many guests appreciate, knowing that we're doing our utmost to be sure they can stay well to enjoy their trip. We know that airports and planes are one of the top places where bugs/viruses are spread, so ask all participants to mask unless eating or drinking. Once the group assembles at the tour starting place, we will only require masking while in crowded public areas, like train stations, on the subway and in entry lines for tourist sites. Now that living with Covid is the new normal, and with the prevalence of RSV and other respiratory illnesses, and the fact that many who've had Covid are now living with lungs more susceptible to pneumonia, we believe that these small steps to lower the risk are prudent and reasonable.  We acknowledge that there are those who disagree with this policy.  There are many tour companies that do not have any requirements for maintaining the health of their tour participants.  We are proud to dilligently strive to minimize the health risks of travel for our guests.
