The Darkness Announce 20th Anniversary ‘Permission to Land’ Tour for 2023
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their hit album Permission to Land , The Darkness have just announced a headlining North American tour in October.
Released in 2003, The Darkness' debut album was a big commercial success, largely thanks to the smash single "I Believe In a Thing Called Love," which peaked at No. 35 on Billboard's US Mainstream Top 40 chart.
Fans can expect to see the band perform all 11 songs off Permission to Land , as well as additional cuts from their other six albums, the latest being 2021's Motorheart .
“When Permission to Land landed 20 short years ago, we were bathed in shock and awe," comments frontman Justin Hawkins , "As if by magic, rock wasn’t dead! Fun wasn’t banned! And Spandex was almost acceptable again…Well, guess what? Twenty years on, the same rules apply. So please to squeeze yourselves into those inappropriate leggings, back-comb your mullet, splash on a big handful of attitude, and come celebrate with us! We promise everything and we deliver, every time. Bring on the next twenty! The Darkness. The best. For you. Forever.”

Wow!! What a show the energy, set list and sound were fantastic. The Darkness put a show on like no other and as always we’re quite magnificent. Also did the Meet and Greet and it was lovely to watch some of the sound check followed by a Question and Answer and a tour around the Stage and Instruments. The lads were really nice and chatty telling stories ❤️❤️

Absolutely amazing!!! This gig was so good from start to finish, even the support band was awesome! The band put on a spectacular performance and the crowd was great too! Overall a fantastic experience and i want to go see them again!
Not a band to take lightly or dismiss as a joke act,the DARKNESS came to Leicester and ROCKED the 02 academy with some great songs, riffs and jokes, even Justin doing his acrobatic handstand during one of their songs! From bassist Frankie Poullain dropping the Cowbell used for the beginning of " One way ticket to hell and back", to Justin playing a synthesizer version of" I believe in a thing called love", there was something to delight all of the rocking crowd last night, all rounded off with Justin playing a red glitter guitar for a rousing rendition of " Christmas time ( don't let the bells end)" There was no DARKNESS last night, only four stars that shone very brightly indeed!!! Well rocked!!

THE 69 EYES earned platinum status with the albums Blessed Be (2000) and Paris Kills (2022) and not only reached #1 of the single and album charts in their home country of Finland, but also plunged the world into a sinful cosmos of love, death, and melancholy, while outliving any other band emerging from the goth hype of the early 2000s. By developing their sound further into sleaze rock on Devils (2004) and Angels (2007) and not shying away from pitch black Elvis allusions in singer Jyrki 69’s dark voice and unique onstage dance moves, the band has established a worldwide following. Over the course of more than three decades, the band has toured relentlessly throughout Europe, America, Asia, and Australia and released twelve full-length studio albums.
Sprawling across ten lavishly dark, effortlessly cool tracks, THE 69 EYES ‘ Death Of Darkness is one of their most flawless and consistent offerings bearing a title that’s of course both stylish and symbolic, much like the music they create. 2023 is a far cry from the early days of the new millennium when gothic rock bands emerged from every graveyard and Finnish vampires stormed the charts around the world. However, the spirit of a world-class record like Death Of Darkness, the sheer passion and the enticing mystery, the suspense, and the smirk, are still very much alive.

THE DARKNESS ANNOUNCE PERMISSION TO LAND 20TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR!
The Darkness News 22 March 2023
EUROPEAN DATES REVEALED
More shows around the planet to be announced soon.
Today the band are delighted to announce 13 European dates on the Permission To Land 20 tour, with many more jaw-dropping, show-stopping concerts around the world to be revealed shortly.
Frontman Justin Hawkins comments:
“When Permission to Land landed, twenty short years ago, we were bathed in shock and awe. As if by magic, Rock wasn’t dead! Fun wasn’t banned! And Spandex was almost acceptable again…
Well, guess what? Twenty years on, the same rules apply. So please to squeeze yourselves into those inappropriate leggings, back-comb your mullet, splash on a big handful of attitude, and come celebrate with us! We promise everything and we deliver, every time. Bring on the next twenty!
The Darkness. The best. For you. Forever.”
The shows promise to be a grand spectacle with the band playing the much-lauded, award-winning, foot-stomping, guitar-wailing, groove-making masterpiece in full. Kicking off with the splendid rifferama of ‘Black Shuck’ they’ll blast their way through all of Permission To Land ’s 11 tracks, including ‘Growing On Me’, ‘Love Is Only A Feeling’, ‘Giving Up’, ‘Love On The Rocks With No Ice’, ‘Get Your Hands Off My Woman’ and of course the iconic ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’.
And of course, in addition to that splendid confection of rock brilliance, Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus will pump out a bonus ‘Best Of The Rest’ set, stuffed to the gills with all the hits and fan favourites from their six subsequent studio albums. It’s enough to make any right-thinking music fan go weak at the knees!
There will also be a very special expanded Permission To Land deluxe album release coming later this year via Warner Music, with further details to be revealed soon.

Taylor Swift sings 'thanK you aIMee,' performs with Hayley Williams at Eras Tour in London
The eras tour star performed a unique mashup for haters and then invited the paramore singer to join her on night two in london..
Taylor Swift is sending a message to Kim Kardashian and all the haters playing a sold-out crowd on night two of the Eras Tour in London at Wembley Stadium.
"It really makes me think about how every time somebody talks sh**," the singer said to the almost 90,000 fans. In her blue flowy dress, Swift held her guitar in anticipation to play a "Tortured Poets" song she'd never performed live.
"It just makes me work even harder and it makes me that much tougher," she added. "So it also makes me incredibly thankful for this."
Swift went into "thanK you aIMee", a song presumed to be about Kim Kardashian. When she finished the song, she dove into "Mean" from "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)."
The entire stadium screamed, "Someday I'll be living in a big old city."
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
Swift changed up the next lyrics to: "Someday I'll be singing this song in Wembley" and the crowd lost it.
'Please welcome Hayley Williams to the stage'
"I was also thinking about how special it is to play London," she said from the piano and then began discussing her rerecords, specifically "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)." "I asked an artist who I am such a huge fan of to collaborate with me on one of the songs and she said yes and then I asked her to tour with me and she said yes. And London we are so lucky, because when I asked Hayley Williams to come out and perform she said yes."
Paramore's Hayley Williams skipped down the long catwalk and twirled in her purple dress. The last time the two singers performed live together was the Speak Now World Tour .
Williams sat down at the piano next to Swift for a duet of "Castles Crumbling" from "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)."
"You're my longest music friend, I love you," Swift said at the end of the song. They hugged. Williams ran back down the catwalk. The animations on the ground glitched when Swift dove into the opening of the stage.
The Eras Tour star has one more night in London before heading to Dublin, Ireland.

Friday night was a big one for Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour. The 14-time Grammy winner performed her first night of three for this stay in London, and it was a star-studded affair.
Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce, was in attendance, as were Kelce’s big brother, Jason, and sister-in-law, Kylie . It was the first Eras Tour show for Jason and Kylie, and it appeared as though they had a marvelous time.

In a post shared from her personal Twitter account, Swift wished the future king a happy birthday and included a photo of herself, Travis, Prince William and his eldest children.

USA Swimming therapy dog retires, named honorary member of the team
The swimmers requested therapy dogs to minimize their anxiety at the Olympic Trials.
USA Swimming athletes had one special request for the Olympic Trials: dogs. As many pups as possible.
“So many people find animals as a calming essence,” said Emily Klueh, manager of mental health and emotional wellness for USA Swimming. “That’s what athletes are looking for … In high energy environments like this, we have to have environments where they can get away from the hype, they can calm their nervous systems down.”
USA Swimming — the national governing body for competitive swimming — partnered with Paws & Think, Inc. , a nonprofit in Indianapolis that connects people with therapy dogs.
Since the Olympic Trials for swimming started on June 15 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, about 60 therapy dogs have been hanging out in the athlete’s lounge every day. Their primary purpose is to provide comfort to some 1,000 swimmers there, who are under intense stress as they strive to earn a spot at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
“Just seeing the dogs in here laying down, they have no idea what’s going on. They’re just here to be with people, and it’s awesome,” said Carson Foster, a competitive swimmer who made the Olympic team . “It’s one of the highlights of showing up to the pool every day.”
At major sporting events, tensions tend to run high. Therapy animals can take the edge off. Research has shown that being in the presence of dogs reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and eases depression.
“All of our therapy teams are there to provide some comfort and joy,” said Ashleigh Coster, executive director of Paws & Think. “It’s a time for the athletes to decompress.”
While all the therapy dogs have been well-received by the swimmers, there is one pooch in particular who has made the most meaningful mark. Izzo, a 10-and-a-half-year-old lab-husky mix, was recently diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.
For the past eight years, Izzo has been a therapy dog, working at schools, libraries, healthcare facilities and sporting events to support people of all ages. The Olympic Trials will be his final job.
“I can’t imagine a more perfect event to cap off his career,” said Megan Montague, Izzo’s handler and a volunteer with Paws & Think. “It’s been very rewarding for him.”
Upon learning of Izzo’s imminent retirement, USA Swimming decided to make him an honorary member of their Olympic team .
“Izzo is a loveable floof,” said Nikki Warner, director of communications for USA Swimming. “It just seemed like the right move to make him an honorary member of our team.”
Izzo’s vet said he likely has only a few weeks — maybe months, if he’s lucky — to live.
“My husband and I are still processing it,” said Montague. “He’s been a once-in-a-lifetime dog.”
He’s known in his community for “spreading smiles and joy all over the place,” she said. “He’s just a really friendly dog.”
Even though he’s low on energy lately, Montague said, Izzo walks laps around the athlete’s lounge to greet all the swimmers. He still takes his job very seriously.
“He has approached every therapy visit with the same enthusiasm that he always has, despite the effects of his cancer,” said Montague.
“He provides a calming factor, and a reminder of home,” she added, noting that many of the athletes are from out of state and don’t have their own dogs with them.
Montague realized Izzo would make a good therapy dog when she brought him to visit a third-grade class, as her mother was a teacher. The kids — and Izzo — couldn’t get enough.
“I just watched Izzo absolutely come alive, and I did too,” said Montague. “He loves people and loves to be petted.”
Izzo — who was also a therapy dog at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in 2017 — was given his very own Olympic Trials medal.
Montague said she used to be a competitive swimmer, which has made taking part in the trials even more exciting.
The swimmers said they’re thrilled to have Izzo as an official teammate.
“I just told Izzo ‘congratulations on becoming an Olympian,’” said Foster. “He’s a little bit more seasoned than I am in what he does, but I’m excited to be Olympians with him.”
Montague said Izzo seems tickled by the extra attention.
“He definitely feels the love,” Montague said.
