I am now in the initial stages of developing a software program using AI to filter through significant numbers of candidates more efficiently. This AI-driven tool aims to select the best-suited candidates by analyzing vast amounts of data quickly, which would otherwise take countless hours to process manually. This transition is driven by my commitment to embracing new technologies that enhance our capabilities and streamline complex processes.

Despite the project's ongoing status, the endeavor underscores a fundamental leadership truth: the imperative to initiate. Leaders are visionaries, stepping into the unknown ahead of the pack. This principle has been my North Star, guiding my exploration of AI's potential to revolutionize how we identify and nurture talent.

This journey has not been devoid of challenges. Each stumble has been a stepping stone, revealing invaluable lessons about AI's capabilities and limitations. Initially, our team faced significant challenges with understanding AI and showed resistance to integrating it into our processes, fearing it could complicate workflows or threaten jobs. To overcome these barriers, we focused on educating the team about AI's potential and practical applications.

We started with smaller, manageable projects that allowed the team to see the benefits of AI without feeling overwhelmed. This approach not only helped make AI a part of our culture but also built trust and confidence among team members. Kevin Costner could have phoned it in. Yellowstone , TV maven Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western melodrama on Paramount Network, was riding high in the ratings going into 2023, and Costner had a strong platform in the leading role. But during negotiations for season 6, the 69-year-old actor walked away . He had other dreams: specifically, directing a four-part Western epic titled Horizon . Costner has blamed creative differences with Paramount and Sheridan over reported flaring tensions on the Yellowstone set, but ultimately, as he said in a recent divorce proceeding , he left over scheduling conflicts — with his own movie. (Next time you don’t want to follow through on previously made plans, feel free to use this same excuse.)

Soon we’ll see whether the risk and subsequent sensational Hollywood kerfuffle pays off; Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 both hit theaters this summer.

Like Dances with Wolves or Open Range , Horizon puts Costner back in the saddle as both director and star. The double feature’s first trailer promises more of his particular Western mode: sweeping vistas, raw depictions of the West, gunslinger shootouts, contemplations on the nature of man, and plenty of horses . But Costner hopes the breadth of his story will offer a new perspective on the American West. Or at least the American Western.

“We have a lot of Westerns that aren’t good because they get too simplified, and Westerns are, in fact, complicated,” Costner said at a trailer launch event earlier this month. The filmmaker embraces the man-comes-to-town formula of the West — “when it’s done right, we never forget it, but too often, it’s just a convenience for a hero guy to knock down a dumb guy.” But he intends for Horizon to go deeper. “This isn’t Disneyland. These were real lives. People just making their way, women just trying to keep their families clean, fed — [they] basically worked to death. Women’s lives were short, all they did was work. And so I’m drawn to that. I’m always gonna get to my gunfight — but I’m drawn to the little things of what people had to endure.”

The trailer for Horizon is light on plot and heavy on the cast, which, according to previous reports, includes 170 speaking roles. Costner leads the pack as the classic Western cowboy type, with Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Tatanka Means, Sienna Miller, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, and many more That Guys filling out the stable. Jamie Campbell Bower , who recently played Vecna on Stranger Things , loses the hellish makeup in favor of a 10-gallon hat as he plays the saga’s villain. And what connects them all, from Indigenous peoples to longtime ranchers and a wave of newcomers to the West, is the fallout of the United States’ bloodiest conflict.

“The Civil War is a mark on our country,” Costner says. “However you choose to look at it, the loss of life, the reason it was fought [...] we’re still trying to come to terms with as a nation. But it closed the West in a blink of an eye. The Civil War actually kept the focus of the country on the East Coast, but the minute that war was over in 1865, the country looked West again, and in 25 years, something that had been there for thousands of years was over.

“Our national appetite was to be satisfied at the disadvantage to those who had been there and flourished and were living in their own way. And I don’t know that I’ve ever come to terms with that myself. I’d say I’m ashamed of what happened... I don’t know that I’m ashamed or embarrassed, but I wanted to project what really happened. There was a great injustice that occurred in the West, but it doesn’t minimize the courage it took for my ancestors to actually cut loose and go there. I recognize the resourcefulness, the bravery it took to leave and make this march across this country. It’s just a movie that kind of shows the clash of cultures. It’s our history.”

The big goal for the Horizon movies was dimensionalizing all sides of the conflict, requiring him to produce a film that went far beyond the traditional scope of a two-hour Western. “I think it’s really a mistake sometimes to judge other people by how they had to perform or act in another century,” he says, emphasizing how the film weaves together stories of post-traumatic stress, the fortitude necessary to settle the West, and “the fact native Indians were crushed under this movement.”

Costner’s grand thesis on Manifest Destiny has been percolating in his mind for ages. The actor-director originally wrote it under the title Sidewinder in 1988, and gave it the codename Horizon as he passed it around Hollywood, because he felt at the time, “people were copying” his developing projects, from Robin Hood to Wyatt Earp. (That includes his serious beef over 1993’s Tombstone .) Horizon started and stopped over the decades, with Disney almost producing the film, but Costner says he ultimately had to self-finance it to realize his sprawling vision. Reports circulated in 2023 that the actor had mortgaged real estate in order to pull together $100 million to shoot the first two chapters of Horizon . He verified that number for present press, saying it all went to shooting authentically on locations across Utah.

Not since Warner Bros. Pictures released two Matrix sequels within six months has a studio bucked the traditions of distribution in the way that’s planned for Costner’s saga. WB will once again be the risk-takers, distributing Chapter 1 on June 28 and Chapter 2 on Aug. 16. Whether we get Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 likely depends on whether Costner in his classic mode can draw Yellowstone crowds — and all of their friends, based on the price tag — to theaters. At the very least, he thinks he’s made two movies for the whole family.

“I hope nobody is put off by the R [rating]. Because I don’t make R [movies] gratuitously. I make Rs that a 12-year-old... If somebody says to them, ‘This is going to be a little hard at a moment, but I want you to see it. I want my little girl to see what their great-great-great-grandmother went through.’ I hope a family does go see it.”

When Kevin Costner revealed the trailer for “ Horizon: An American Saga ,” the first of his planned four-part epic about the American West, the two-time Academy Award winner looked positively giddy — at least over Zoom.

“Trailers have always been kind of a favorite part for me, even as a boy going to the movies,” Costner said, grinning as he unveiled the first footage in a virtual conversation with journalists. “You’re obviously there to see the movie you want, but isn’t it kind of cool when you see what’s coming? … And with that in mind, I did my very best to expose what’s going to be a four-part saga.”

The three minute trailer introduces “Horizon’s” ensemble cast — led by Costner’s Hayes Elllison, who rides into the frame with the stunning landscapes of Utah on full display — and tees up the action as the film explores the triumphs and tragedies brought on by the ideology of Manifest Destiny. The clip shares a first look at his co-stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tantanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt and Jamie Campbell Bower.

Much of the footage simply teases, rather than directly explains the film’s plot, offering glimpses of the Native American populations that will be featured in the film and possibly a romantic storyline between Costner’s Ellison and Lee’s character.

“Use that much this year?” Bower’s character asks Costner near the end of the clip, as he uses his shotgun to reveal Costner’s holstered pistol.

“Haven’t had much need of it yet,” he replies, as the clip cuts to a scene in which Costner displays his quick draw skills.

“Looks like we’ve got ourselves a bad man right here,” Bower declares, chuckling as Costner walks away.

The official description explains that the film “explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

In addition to starring in the film, Costner directed from a script he co-wrote with Jon Baird. “Horizon: An American Saga” is Costner’s fourth directorial effort following 2003’s “Open Range,” 1997’s “The Post Man” and 1990’s Oscar best picture-winning “Dances With Wolves.”

“This is by far the biggest struggle,” Costner declared, when asked if ‘Horizon’ or ‘Dances with Wolves’ was more difficult to make. “I’m shocked at what we were able to get. I shot ‘Dances’ for 106 days, I shot the movie you’re just seeing right now in 52. … I did learn a lot and I was able to use every trick in the book to try to bring this movie to ground and to bring it to an audience. And there’s four of them!”

In the conversation, moderated by Deadline’s Mike Fleming, Costner also detailed the origins of the project and explained why he held onto this idea for more than 30 years.

“It’s hard to fall out of love. I don’t do that,” Costner said. “Things that have a classic feel they don’t fall out of touch either. I think they exist in any decade. That’s the opportunity we have in cinema is to make something that lasts past its opening weekend. I’ve never banked on opening weekends; I banked on people wanting to revisit something.”

With “Horizon” specifically, Costner wasn’t deterred when no one wanted to finance the movie; in fact, that gave him the “bright idea to make four,” he quipped, adding that, “There’s a lot of people out there that know I’m a little bit of a hard-head or something.”

In terms of the film’s tone, he wanted to step away from the well-worn Western tropes.

Because he was so passionate about this story, Costner said he eventually realized that he had to make it which mean looking to himself financially to do it.

“Not the smartest thing,” he admitted, alluding to the personal cost of risking his 10-acre Santa Barbara home to fund the movie series. “But I count on people. I count on the movie speaking louder than anything I can say. And so with that in mind, I just shoved West myself and I just left, and I went out to make this movie in Utah.

Costner then explained why he shot the film in the Beehive State. “When you go through Utah, it’s magic. And it wasn’t easy for us to do. There were certain things that weren’t set up that we see in other states. … But I kind of bypassed the smart business decision to go where my money could stretch farther.” Costner noted that the production spent over $100 million in Utah and employed more than 500 people over the course of the shoot. “We had an impact on the state, but the state had an impact on me.”

He also revealed that the movie was originally titled “Sidewinder,” but because he’d had a few movies that inspired copycats, like Robin Hood and Wyatt Earp, he wanted to throw the industry off his scent.

“I just thought, ‘I don’t want anybody stepping into whatever I’m trying to do,’ so I called it ‘Horizon’ and said it was written by my son just to disguise it when it went to the Writers Guild,” Costner said. “But the longer I started to think about it, the more I began to appreciate that dreams, going West, they’re always about ‘Out there.’ When you realize a country is bigger and farther than anyone ever dreamed, it is about the horizon.”

He explained: “Because everybody is looking for something — even today, in the relationships and what’s going on at work. They’re looking for room; they’re looking for fresh air. And our 200 year march across this country was no different.”

Costner also acknowledged the injustices that the film saga will explore, particularly as it explores the Civil War era, which he describes as “a mark on our country, however you choose to look at it — the loss of life, the reason it was fought, the things that we still haven’t solved, we’re still trying to come to terms with as a nation — but it closed the West in a blink of an eye.”

The war had kept the country’s on the east coast, but the minute it ended in 1865, everyone looked west again. “In 25 years, something that had been there for thousands of years, it was over. Our national appetite was to be satisfied at the at the disadvantage to those who had been there and flourished and were living in their own way,” Costner said, referring to the Indigenous populations who were crushed by the movement.

With so much experience in the western or cowboy genre in projects like “Dances With Wolves,” “Open Range,” and most recently as the star of “Yellowstone,” Costner cautioned that he’s not trying to reinvent the wheel with “Horizon.”

“You try not to separate yourself from the rest of the reindeer in terms of [saying] ‘I’m going to be different,’ because I’m not looking to set the record straight or make a history lesson,” he said of the film. “There’s just a way I look at movies: I’m gonna get to the action; I’m gonna get to my gunfight, but I’m gonna get there in maybe a different way. … The West is a real place with real issues.”

At the end of the day, Costner hopes to achieve a couple goals. “I want my little girl to see what her great, great, great-grandmother went through,” he said of his personal investment in the story. But on a broader scale, he hopes the ride is worth moviegoers’ money.

“The oldest profession is telling stories around a fire. We all want to hear a good one and we don’t want somebody to waste our time. And I take my time, I hope I don’t waste your time,” Costner said. “I made four of these. I’d like for us to all take those journeys and try to have a high understanding of this first one. The second one’s already shot. I’m out there, heading west again, pushing a rock uphill trying to make the third one. I know I’m a little bit kind of a joke, or it’s maybe humorous to even watch me, because it’s like, ‘Whoa, I wonder when he’s going to ever stop digging.’ I don’t know.”

At this point, the movie isn’t even his anymore. “Horizons” will now travel the world, as will the questions he’s been dreaming about for decades. Like, if he’d made that trek in the 1800s, would he have made it? He might not know the answer to that question, but he’s feeling pretty accomplished anyway.

“I’m terribly satisfied in my own life that God allowed me to get these first two done,” Costner said, quipping, “I mean, if I’m hit by lightning, who knows what happens? At least I went West.”

Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins is a 1995 animated film released by Turner Home Entertainment and Threshold Entertainment as an unofficial tie-in and prequel to the feature film that debuted the same year. It features traditional animation, motion capture and CGI to explain the origins behind some of the movie's main characters, as well as a 15-minute behind-the scenes documentary of the theatrical release.

The film was released straight to home video on VHS and Laserdisc, with a running time of fifty-four minutes. It was included as a bonus on the Mortal Kombat Blu-ray released in April 2011.

The film features Liu Kang , Johnny Cage , and Sonya Blade - also the three main characters in the live action movie - traveling on a mysterious boat to battle in the Mortal Kombat tournament. On the way, they meet Raiden , who provides them with some hints about how to survive the tournament and defeat Shang Tsung and his army of Tarkatan minions. Upon arriving at the island where the battles takes place, Raiden retells the origins of Shang Tsung , Goro , the Great Kung Lao , Scorpion , and the elder Sub-Zero in between fight scenes.

'A Journey' Review: Netflix's Filipino film leaves you teary-eyed with profound emotions

MANILA, PHILIPPINES: 'A Journey', now streaming on Netflix , takes viewers on a poignant two-hour exploration of profound emotions.

It revolves around a young woman, Shane, whose cancer returns for the second time and she chooses to opt out of undergoing chemotherapy again.

Instead, she convinces her husband, Bryan, to help her check off the adventures on her bucket list. Accompanied by their close friend, Kristoff, the trio sets off on an unforgettable adventure to Tasmania.

Netflix's 'A Journey' is an emotional one

The film delivers a deeply emotional experience, evoking tears as it portrays Shane and Bryan's heartfelt journey through the diagnosis of the deadly disease.

Despite the expected emotional moments, the film also celebrates love and enduring friendships.

It's central philosophy- "survival is not the same as living" is beautiful portrayed, emphasizing the idea that one never knows what may happen tomorrow.

There have been plenty of films made in the past with similar themes, but the portrayal of deep, sentimental human emotions can never become worn out in cinema. In fact, they are the heart of cinema, depicted across all genres.

'A Journey' doesn't bore you with monotony

The plot of the film is quite familiar and has been depicted in several films across continents.

Fortunately, RC Delos Reyes does a brilliant job of not lingering on emotional moments but maintains a steady pace, ensuring the audience remains engaged and invested in the story.

The close, fun relationship shared between the trio provides a heartfelt relief from the heavily loaded emotions of pain and grief.

Paolo Contis, Patrick Garcia and Kaye Abad share a wholesome chemistry and are quite convincing in their respective parts.

'A Journey' makes a worthwhile watch for a relaxed weekend, alone or with loved ones. Just be prepared with tissues handy for this touching ride.

The much-awaited Season 3 of Netflix's "Bridgerton" is less than a month away and anticipation for the upcoming social season is high.

Taking the spotlight this season will be Penelope Featherington ( Nicola Coughlan ) and her longtime crush and good friend Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Things didn't end well for the two last season after Penelope heard Colin tell his friends that he would never court her. To top it off, Penelope had a falling out with her best friend Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), after the former realized Penelope was the town gossip, Lady Whistledown.

Where does Season 3 of 'Bridgerton' pick up from?

In Season 3, Penelope gives up her crush on Colin and decides that it's time for her "to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters," according to Netflix.

But she lacks confidence. Meanwhile Colin has returned from his travels and is disheartened to be welcomed back by Penelope's cold shoulder.

"Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season," Netflix says. "But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly."

When does 'Bridgerton' Season 3 premiere?

Part 1 of "Bridgerton" Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 16.

Part 2 of Season 3, with episodes 5-8, will come out at 3 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 13.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. begins path to writing his own story with the Eagles

His father's legacy in philadelphia is unforgettable, but the journey jeremiah trotter jr. is about to take as an eagle will be all his own..

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. will write his own story with the Eagles.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. knows what it means to play in Philadelphia. He grew up around it after all. 

And he knows full well about the weight his name carries among Eagles fans, from the legacy that his father, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., built as the "Axe Man" of those hard-hitting Jim Johnson defenses of the 2000s. 

But he also knows that whatever happens next will be all his own. 

Trotter, who the Eagles moved up to select at 155th overall in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday over in Detroit, will be staying home to play for the very same organization and city that his father grew beloved in from an accomplished career years prior. 

But he told the media shortly after his selection that he isn't feeling the pressure to live up to that. This is his story now. 

"Honestly, for me, I didn't feel like there was any pressure," Trotter said . "My dad would always talk to me and say 'There ain't no pressure, you're your own player, your own man. You have your own journey.'"

"We're different as far as how we play the game, and I just gotta go out there and be me. Use the tools that God blessed me with, and try, to the best of my ability, try to be the best player I can be as an individual. So I don't feel like there's any pressure to live up to his legacy or anything. I don't feel like there's a weight on my back. I'm just trying to get to work and just be the best I can be. "

He'll still take the No. 54 jersey if it's being offered though. 

"I definitely will ask them if I can wear that," Trotter quipped in response to his interest in the number. "Hopefully, they'll give it to me. I'd really appreciate it."

Trotter, a St. Joe's Prep and Clemson product, developed into a force at linebacker within the Tigers' defense.

He said he's not his father when it comes to playstyle, he knows that much. Trotter Sr. was a bigger linebacker who ran downhill and barreled through linemen to get into the offensive backfield. Trotter Jr., meanwhile, described himself more as a mobile, sideline-to-sideline type of tackler who is better suited for the position in today's game. 

But if you go to the film, he can definitely crash through a gap and get to the quarterback, too.

During the 2023 collegiate season, the 21-year old made 5.5 sacks, 88 tackles (54 solo), and caught two interceptions. 

The knocks on him are that he lacks size for his position – Trotter is listed at 6'0" and around 230 pounds – and typical athleticism. However, the instincts, vision of the field, drive, and will to improve, those are all there, the Eagles believe. 

"It's gotta be skillset," general manager Howie Roseman told the media on Saturday of Trotter and the organization's overall approach to drafting. "He's got a skillset, and that's why we drafted him. He's got mentality, that's why we drafted him. And we're looking forward to him being his own person, not having to walk in anyone's footsteps, but creating his own legacy."

And the pen has yet to even hit the page.
