What people love about portugal tours from madrid.

The tour was a good value and enjoyable. There was a good balance of tours and free time. The hotels were nice and in good locations. Our local guide in Madrid, Julieanna, was excellent. She made sure that full instructions were given and repeated several times and she was available for suggestions and questions. The second part of the trip, to Lisbon, was not as good given that most narration was in Spanish. Our guide, Pedro, did his best to repeat what was said in English, but I feel we might have missed some things. Touring was done via coach with very short stops outside of the bus, no additional tours were included (museum, walking, etc.). Pedro was very helpful with things to see and do in our free time. I do feel that the tour was a good value and highly recommend Tour Radar and EuropaMundo.

  • bnclaf 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Àvila and Segovia Day Trip Kate was our amazing guide, and we had a great trip! We met at 7:45am and returned to Madrid around 5pm. The bus was very comfortable and air conditioned. Water is available on the bus for one euro which was so nice. Only water is allowed on the bus—no eating or other drinks. We did not find a breakfast option before we left Madrid, but there was a cafe and bathroom as soon as we arrived in Àvila. My husband and I traveled with two of our teenagers and our 9 year old. We wore light jackets in the morning. It was a warm day so we left our jackets on the bus at lunch time before touring Segovia. The trip is a fair amount of walking and some steep stairs to get up on the top of the walls; my 9 year old was able to do it without any complaints. Thanks for a great day! • 474noellem 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Royal Palace tour The Royal Palace was beautiful. Works of art literally in every corner of every room. However, the guide did the tour in both English and Spanish. My impression was that it would be done in the language you chose. Additionally, she was very difficult to understand. Fairly knowledgeable. Tour was supposed to be 2 hours but ended in 1.5 hours. Read more Written May 28, 2024

  • K6975RDkellym 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Whining about our wine tour (it was fun tho) Do not forget to go inside the tour agency and check in before following the group to the bus. Do not trust that you can use the QR code on your phone (even though confirmation says you can). Communication at the start of the tour was unclear and caused great confusion. They did not check our tickets until we were far en route. Sit on the right of the bus for better views. Bathroom stop on the way to Toledo will ask you for a €1 donation to use the toilet. Tour company will pressure you to use this toilet and thus guilt you into paying this exorbitant fee. The city is not accessible by wheelchair. This means you should not attempt to bring your stroller bound children, either. If you must bring stroller bound children, do be advised it is not sensible to keep glass bottles where they can easily fall and shatter. You will be touring in a group. Please be respectful of the personal space and time of others on the tour. If you disappear into a souvenir shop, this will delay everyone’s experience. Also, it is quite rude to shove someone out of your way to get a better view. Lunch stop only 30 minutes. Not enough time to both eat and buy a souvenir. City was beautiful and would have loved a bit more time to explore. If tour company transported the two tours separately, we would have had an extra hour to enjoy. Met a lovely couple and joined them & our guide for lunch at a small cafe called Cucharadepalo down the street where we ate Carcamusas Toledanos. Would recommend. Wine stop was delightful. Note here that it is rude to drink 6 glasses of wine when you are allotted one. Guide of Toledo and guide of vineyard were kind, delightful, and knowledgeable. Most thorough wine tour I have been on. However, after the welcome tasting, be advised that you will not sip wine until the conclusion of the tour. Tasting experience was immersive and wines were tasty. After the winery, return to Toledo to pick up the full day Toledo folks for the return journey. An opportunity to nap. Return journey also good nap opportunity. Overall good value for money $70 for guided tour of Toledo and transportation to/from, winery tour and tasting with small charcuterie platter. Drop off/pick up is near Real Palace of Madrid, small coffee shop across the street opens at 8:30, only coffee available nearby before that is Starbucks. Bus was comfortable, air conditioned, no outlets, no Wi-Fi. They pack em in though, pretty crowded. Read more Written May 28, 2024

6 Day Portugal Tour including Lisbon and Fatima from Madrid provided by Julia Travel Madrid

Classic Madrid to Lisbon

9 days | taste portuguese tarts, sip famed port wines and wander the cobbled streets of madrid, porto and lisbon..

Intrepid travellers and tour leader in Madrid city, Spain

On this nine-day adventure through Spain and Portugal, you’ll dip into Madrid for a tapas dinner, take a trip into Salamanca’s sandstone surrounds and stay in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Douro Valley. After indulging in delicious local wines and soaking in the views of rolling greens, head to the birthplace of port wine and wander through the medieval riverside district, meeting locals and watching the city light up as the sun sets. Enjoy some free time in Coimbra – the official European Region of Gastronomy – and wander its historic university before ending it all in shining Lisbon. Don’t leave without tasting the famous pasteis de nata (the flakiest pastry you’ll ever treat yourself to) and why not – another splash of local wine!

Trip overview

  • Journey into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Douro Valley and indulge in a wine tasting of local wines, served with a delicious lunch of Portuguese specialties.
  • Tick Madrid, Salamanca, Porto and Lisbon off your bucket list and spend afternoons wandering around narrow, cobbled streets, colourful architecture with hilltop views and glittering coasts as you wait for nightly sunsets to transform these cities into glittering havens.
  • Feast on Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, snacks and local wines with a delicious tapas welcome dinner in Madrid, a port tasting in Porto, a bacalhau dinner in Coimbra and the unmissable pasteis de nata from the best spot in Lisbon – yum!
  • Rub shoulders with the locals in the University of Coimbra, famed for its baroque library and historical buildings, during a tour with a local guide who has all the insights.
  • Spend a day discovering the history of Tomar – a 12th century town of relaxed streets, verdant gardens and the Castelo de Tomar, a Templar castle just waiting for the curious to explore its ramparts and cloisters.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, REFOOD. Donations help them save good food, from restaurants and supermarkets, that is destined to go to waste and distribute it amongst people in need.
  • We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs, and across cobblestones.
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in this region (over 40C/104F). It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • Portugal, particularly its cities, are very hilly and stairs are commonplace. You will have to be able to easily lift your luggage and carry it up and down stairs and inclines, so packing light is recommended. The cobblestone streets become very slippery when wet. Some people may find Portugal's topography challenging.

Bienvenidos! Welcome to Spain. Your adventure begins in the capital city of Madrid, with a welcome meeting at 6 pm where you will meet your trip leader and fellow travellers. If you arrive early, why not explore the city? Maybe have a picnic in Buen Retiro Park or explore the rich culture of European art at the Prado Museum, which houses works by Goya, Velazquez and other Spanish masters. Tonight, after the meeting, you’ll enjoy a welcome dinner of traditional tapas, maybe try patatas bravas, tortilla or croquetas.

  • Hotel (1 night)

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place. If you can't arrange a flight that will arrive in time, you may wish to arrive a day early so you're able to attend. We'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability).

Take the train to Salamanca – home to the 10th century university that continues to bring vibrancy to the town through its diverse student population. When you arrive, head out on an orientation walk, taking in the ornate sandstone architecture of the city. Then, enjoy some free time for lunch. Drive to the Douro Valley by private vehicle. This UNESCO World Heritage area is set on the highest flowing river of the Iberian Peninsula and the region is known for its wineries and unforgettable scenery.Upon arrival, you can unwind in the comfort of your hotel and savor the breathtaking views of the Douro vineyards before heading for dinner.

  • Salamanca - Leader-led orientation walk

Your travel time today will be approximately 5.5 hours.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, maybe heading out for a morning walk or taking a Rabelo boat ride (optional) – the traditional Rabelo was once a Portuguese cargo boat used to transport barrels of port wine. Take in the sights from the water before joining the group for an included lunch and wine tasting at your wine hotel. As you tuck into some local Portuguese cuisine and choose your new favourite afternoon wine, soak in the last of the sweeping green hill views and then head in a private vehicle to Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal. When you arrive, you have a free afternoon to wander this coastal city. Maybe visit Livraria Lello – a bookstore that’s been standing since 1906. If the romance of books isn’t your thing, you can head to the Serralves Foundation – this art foundation boasts a contemporary art museum, a park and a villa, all demonstrating contemporary Art Deco architecture and Modernism.

  • Douro Valley - Wine Tasting & Lunch
  • Porto - Livraria Lello - EUR8

Your travel time today will be approximately 2 hours.

This morning, you’ll head out on a leader-led walk around Porto, taking in the city’s colourful architecture and stately bridges. Wander through the medieval riverside district, the narrow cobbled streets and the countless cafes that are all surrounded by the Douro River. You’ll visit the local market, too, where you can grab some snacks before heading to a port wine tasting – port wine production is this city’s namesake, after all! This afternoon is at your leisure to explore how you wish. Maybe take the chance to take a boat ride to see the colourful buildings of Porto from a new perspective. Tonight, ask your leader for the best local restaurants and people watch as the sun goes down.

  • Porto - Leader-led orientation walk
  • Porto - Port wine tasting

This morning, take the train to Coimbra – the former capital of Portugal. Coimbra is now a university city home to a well-preserved medieval Old Town. When you arrive, you can explore however you wish – maybe stroll by the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral of Se Velha or wander the Jardins da Quinta das Lagrimas – 12 hectares of gardens and a palace that has been converted into a luxury hotel – and take a walk through the woodlands. Tonight, head out for dinner with your group and feast on traditional Portuguese favourites at a restaurant specializing in the nation’s favourite – bacalhau (salted cod).

Join a local guide this morning for a tour of the University of Coimbra, including the famed Biblioteca Joanina (the baroque library). After, you have a free day to choose your own adventure. You might like to keep exploring the wonderful architecture of this region and visit the Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery and the Santa Clara-a-Nova Monastery. Tonight, maybe head to a fado show to immerse yourself in the culture’s traditional music scene. Coimbra was elected the European Region of Gastronomy for 2022, so you shouldn’t have a hard time finding the perfect spot for a delicious dinner!

  • Coimbra - University tour with a local guide
  • Coimbra - Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery - EUR4

Drive to Tomar – a city perfect for history and architecture buffs! When you arrive, take a leader-led orientation walk to get your bearings and then visit the Castelo de Tomar – this castle of the Knights Templar is a national monument built by King Afonso Henriques around 1160 near the river Nabao. After exploring the Convent of Christ inside, enjoy free time for lunch and then maybe take an afternoon walk in the National Forest of Sete Montes or visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival. Later, you’ll continue your journey to Lisbon, arriving in the late afternoon. You’re free in the capital city tonight, so maybe ask your leader for the best dinner spots and watch the city light up as the sun goes down.

  • Tomar - Castelo de Tomar
  • Tomar - Leader-led orientation walk

Your travel time today will be approximately 3.5 hours.

Join your leader for an orientation walk to get your bearings, making a stop at the Fabrica de Nata for coffee and pasteis de nata (the famed Portuguese tarts that you’ll soon be obsessed with if you’re not already). This is home to one of the best custard-filled pastries (is your mouth watering yet?) in the world, so it’s a good idea to buy a few extras to take with you. The rest of the afternoon is free, so maybe wander to the Belem Tower, tour the Castelo de Sao Jorge or take a leisurely boat trip on the Tejo River. Tonight, you might like to rejoin your group for an optional farewell dinner and toast to a trip well-travelled with another glass of port or local wine.

  • Lisbon - Leader-led orientation walk
  • Lisbon - Pasteis de nata
  • Lisbon - Castelo de Sao Jorge - EUR15

With no activities planned today, your trip comes to an end after breakfast. If you’d like to spend more time in this charming capital (as is recommended), just speak to your booking agent.

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally, you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey to enter Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar (a territory of the United Kingdom). You are not required to obtain a visa to enter either country for the short duration of this tour. Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally, you should contact an embassy or consulate of Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom (for Gibraltar) to determine what travel documentation is required.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Tauck's Guest Protection

Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $559  per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

90 days or more before departure = $600 per person

89-8 days before departure = $900 per person

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on the motor coaches.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

If you have a medical condition which might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. , no vaccinations are currently required for travel to Spain, Portugal or Gibraltar (a territory of the United Kingdom). For complete vaccination and inoculation information, please contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to obtain information regarding vaccinations that may be required for your journey. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .

If you are a resident of another country, please contact an embassy or consulate of each of the countries visited on this tour to determine what vaccination(s) may be required for your travel.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

The tour is fast paced. To enjoy this tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion. Spain and Portugal are home to innumerable historic buildings and sites, many dating from ancient or medieval times. Therefore, roads, walkways and architecture may present difficulties for some guests with physical disabilities. We conduct walking tours in most of the cities visited.

Many of the hotels do not provide for disabled access. Although all the hotels on this itinerary have elevators, many of the sites visited do not. Airports and train stations provide limited access to elevators. Many of the museums will have elevators; however, they are not always conveniently located for your use. Further, ramps are not commonly found in public venues.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

The climate of Portugal is among the warmest of any country in Europe. In spring and summer temperatures are extremely high, often reaching 85ºF (30ºC) and above, and most days are sunny. Evenings and nights cool down considerably. Throughout this region rainfall is minimal or non-existent during the summer months and light in late spring and early fall.

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website by clicking here .

What To Pack

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with Necessary Gear who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .

Spain and Portugal are generally warm and dry from April through September. From late March into November, the weather cools considerably and there is a higher chance of rain. Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Cool weather at higher elevations or at night will require warmer, layered clothing.

In Europe, especially in finer restaurants, it is generally customary to dress somewhat formally. Slacks or a dress for women and a jacket for men are acceptable dining attire. It is advisable to avoid wearing jeans, sneakers or shorts for dinner. You may also wish to dress up a bit for the welcome reception and the farewell dinner, but by all means be comfortable.

You will find a hair dryer located in your hotel guest room. Irons and ironing boards are not usually available, so guests may have to give their garment to the hotel to be ironed for a fee. Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are also available for a fee.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your trip to Spain and Portugal:

  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • An optional jacket and tie for men
  • Casually elegant evening wear for ladies
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
  • A light sweater or jacket for higher elevations or a breezy night
  • Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
  • Reusable zipper-lock bags or other waterproof bags
  • Daypack for camera equipment
  • Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

The beating cultural heart of Spain, Madrid moves to its own busy rhythm as one of the world’s great art, culture, and architecture cities. Let a city tour take you to its historic sights and exciting neighbourhoods before enjoying an afternoon on your own to visit whatever part of the city interests you, whether it’s a deep cultural dive at the Prado Museum, a wander through Habsburg history at the Royal Palace, or a relaxing afternoon in Retiro Park.

Set out from Madrid toward Avila, Salamanca, and Portugal, stopping in each of the historic cities before settling into Porto for two nights. Take a sightseeing tour of the city’s most beautiful buildings, and visit its famous Port Wine cellars on the other side of the Douro for a tasting. Then turn south toward Coimbra, Portugal’s most famous university town, and Fatima, a place of pilgrimage for many Catholics. Then it’s time for the magical trio of Batalha, Alcobaca, and Nazare. See two of the most beautiful former monasteries in Portugal, while Nazare is a traditional fishing town with its own retro charms.

Continue on to Lisbon, Portugal’s fabled capital, for a visit to the Belem neighbourhood and its famous tower, the Jeronimos Monastery, the Coach Museum, the Monument to the Discoverers, and a tour of the historic Alfama Quarter, little changed since Medieval times.  From Lisbon, cut back across the border to Cordoba in Spain, stopping off at the World Heritage Listed city of Caceres to admire its unique blend of architecture. Cordoba’s main claim to fame is its Moorish history, most notably enshrined at the astonishing Mezquita Mosque. With a night here, you’ll also have time to explore the atmospheric Jewish quarter.

On to Seville, a city that captures the spirit of Andalusia like no other! See the second largest church in the catholic world, the sprawling Plaza de Espana, and opt for a Flamenco tour if you’re curious about this most Andalusian of dance arts. Then enjoy a day visiting Ronda with its spectacular views, and the Costa del Sol, a thriving tourist hub for modern Spain. Of course, no first trip to Andalusia is complete without a visit to Granada and the awesome Alhambra palace complex, your next destination.

Return to Madrid, stopping for a sightseeing tour of historic Toledo en route. You may wish to book an extra day or two to enjoy all Spain’s energetic capital has to offer.

Vanesa was an excellent tour guide. She was helpful to everyone and in no way did she try to coerce you into going on excursions or recommend restaurants where she gets kudos. This was experience with my last tour guide with EFT.

Our tour leader, Vanessa, was absolutely wonderful!!! I think she made everyone feel special and she was sooo knowledgeable about places it made things easy when we had free time. She was ALWAYS available whenever we had a question. She was the best!!!

  • In order to enter Portugal and Spain, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
  • We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
  • Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
  • Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center .
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code LSM.

  • Portuguese food is fresh, hearty, and delicious. Try seafood stew cooked in a cataplana , a shell-shaped copper pan, or the national dish, bacalhau (salted cod). A couvert , or simple plate of bread, butter, and olives, is often served when you sit down to a meal—while it is free in many restaurants, some will add a charge to your bill for it.
  • In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
  • Cuisine in Spain’s southern Andalusia region is heavily influenced by surrounding countries, and has many Arabic elements. Kebabs are popular, and desserts are often prepared with almonds, honey, and cinnamon. Be sure to try Serrano ham, which is considered a regional delicacy, as well as the famous chilled soup known as gazpacho .
  • All destinations visited on this tour operate on the European standard 220-240 volts and use Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.

Will Travis Kelce attend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour dates in Madrid, Spain?

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift continue to spend so much time together despite their busy schedules.

They were in Singapore together during one of her Eras Tour stops, they went on vacation together in the Bahamas, they were snapped at various places together and they attended Patrick Mahomes' charity event . Then, Kelce showed up to her 87th Eras Tour show in Paris and they had a vacation together in Italy.

Now, Swift continues her international leg of the Eras Tour, so you might wonder: given that Travis has some time off, will he be in Madrid for two days to see her perform again?

We don't know officially. But there are reports that he'll continue to join her on certain stops in Europe, so maybe he's traveling with her? We'll see!

Taylor Swift Resumes ‘Eras Tour’ in Madrid: What Time Will It Start in EST Zone?

When Does Taylor Swift Start Madrid Eras Tour in Eastern Time Zone

When Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour makes a stop in Madrid this week, fans from around the world will be watching.

While the singer, 34, has mostly performed on weekends since kicking off her tour in March 2023, she will stray from her regular schedule to perform two shows at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Spain on Wednesday, May 29, and Thursday, May 30. The concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. local time, with Paramore serving as the opening act. Madrid is six hours ahead of the East Coast, so it will be 12:45 p.m. EST when Paramore takes the stage.

Swift is expected to kick off her set at 8 p.m. local time, which will be 2 p.m. EST. Her “surprise song” acoustic segment will take place at 10:40 p.m. in Madrid, meaning East Coast-based fans can tune in to livestreams and social media updates at 4:40 p.m. to see which songs she performs. The concert will conclude 35 minutes later.

Prior to traveling to Spain, Swift put on two shows in Lisbon, Portugal, on Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. She grew emotional during Saturday’s concert due to the audience’s excitement over her first-ever tour stop in the country.

“I’ve just never seen a crowd like this in my life,” Swift said. “There have been moments in this show already where I, like, forget what I’m supposed to do next or what I’m supposed to say because I’m just so distracted by how much fun you’re having and how you’re performing in the audience. I love this.”

She added: “You’re just so in the moment and I cannot tell you how special that is for us as performers to get to look out and make eye contact with you and connect with you in this way.”

Swift emphasized that it was “an absolute dream” to perform the Eras Tour abroad.

“There is, before I start crying, there is one song that I want to play you from the Red album if you happen to have about 10 minutes to spare,” she told the crowd before singing the 10-minute version of “All Too Well.”

After wrapping up her final show in Portugal, Swift gushed over the experience via Instagram . “It’s official, I left my 🤍 in Lisbon,” she wrote. “My first time in Portugal and you all made me feel like I was right at home. I’ll seriously never forget the way you treated us, the overwhelming love and passion and hands in the air and dancing and how you screamed every lyric!! Muito obrigada 🇵🇹.”

Swift will next bring the Eras Tour to Lyon, France, for two concerts on Sunday, June 2, and Monday, June 3, before continuing the European leg throughout the summer.

Will Travis Kelce be at Taylor Swift's Portugal 'Eras Tour' stops?

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

From Argentina to Australia , Travis Kelce has traveled around the world to see his girlfriend Taylor Swift perform during her epic " Eras Tour" stops .

Will the Kansas City Chiefs tight end be in the audience during the "Eras Tour" shows in Portugal on May 24 and 25?

It's not a reach: Kelce has already confirmed that he would be attending some of the European leg of the tour, which kicked off in May.

He already attended Swift's fourth and final night in Paris , her 87th show. At the concert, she wore an outfit that fans thought was a nods to the Chiefs' yellow and red colors — and Kelce, who wears No. 87.

“Oh, you know I gotta go support. You know it," he told “Entertainment Tonight " in April.

“We’re both very career-driven. We both love what we do, and any chance that I can show my support to her — and knowing that she’s showing me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay,” he said.

During the same interview, he marveled at the fact that Swift was playing London's Wembley Stadium eight times, calling it "mind-blowing." The tour's European leg concludes in August in London.

The NFL is currently in its offseason. The Chiefs team has voluntary weekends of organized team practice activity , or OTAs, planned for May 20 to 22, May 28 to 30, June 4 to 7, but not this weekend.

Their mandatory minicamp is June 11 to 13, when Swift is performing in the United Kingdom.

Swift attended 13 of Kelce's Chiefs games last year, including their Super Bowl victory .

During her interview for Time Person of the Year , Swift said she and Kelce are just "showing up for each other" by attending one another's public events.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she said. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

Taylor Swift has left the building. In Portugal anyway – but it seems the European country and its capital has left its mark on the record-breaking star.

After wrapping her second and final concert there Sunday evening, Swift took to Instagram to pen a loving thankyou note to Lisbon and its audience, writing:

“It’s official, I left my [heart] in Lisbon. My first time in Portugal and you all made me feel like I was right at home.

And in a video on X (formerly Twitter), Taylor referred to her previous music eras, naming her albums Red, Fearless, and Speak Now, which she toured throughout the world:

“And during the course of those tours… we made so many fun memories, but the one thing that I wish I would have done differently is I wish I could have brought every one of those tours to come see you in Lisbon.

“I have to say, I’ve just never seen a crowd like this in my life. There have been moments in this show already where I like, forget what I’m supposed to do next or what I’m supposed to say because I’m just so distracted by how much fun you’re having and how you’re performing in the audience. I love this.”

However, before her Portuguese fans think they’re too special, they might want to read Swift’s similarly gushing tribute to Sweden after her tour traveled there last week.

“’Stockholm!!!! Thank you for being the most generous, excitable, magical crowds, and for breaking the all time attendance record for the stadium all 3 nights.

“Can’t believe this was our first time playing in Sweden – but it won’t be our last…”

Swift will now take the record-breaking tour onto Madrid, then Lyon in France this week, before arriving in the UK on Jun 7.

A source told Us Weekly on Thursday that Kelce does plan to go to Europe regularly to be with Swift.
