I can’t live with out Trip

I am only going to write one review , I’ve been one of the lucky ones that can appreciate the era of Ctrip to now trip. I lived in the time as an expat I couldn’t get tickets if it want directly from a carrier in 2014. It was frustrating to say the least , when trip developed the English version it’s become a travel changer. It might not be perfect for some , but I can appreciate the work that has been done. Now all , the new features and upload of people’s travel pics is amazing. As a travel enthusiast and vlogger I love sharing my pics and thoughts. Over all thank u for this amazing app , that really makes traveling easier for us expats.

Developer Response ,

Dear yarimar22. Thank you so much for your kind words. We are thrilled to know that we were able to deliver a pleasant experience to you. Please recommend our app to your loved ones and share our friendly app with them! Your feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

Usually dependable, but really screwed me this time

Hello, I signed up for a flight with my previously filled in credentials, and for some reason trip did not transfer my middle name when they bought the tickets. Because of this I allost missed my flight, as it didn’t match my passport information and China requires a middle name. The agent I talked to refused to change it, and they also refused to talk to the airline receptionist, to come to a reasonable and timely solution. Instead, they told me to cancel my flight- mid transfer, pay a fee of 90$, and then rebook a more expensive and later flight. I was waiting to board my flight, and I had already paid and everything told me not to do this, because it was unreasonable. The app wouldn’t let me manually change the information, even after 4 requests, it rejected them saying the airline disallowed it, even though the receptionist had given me specific directions of contacting trip to change it, so I knew the airline was actually fine with this. This was absurd, to be left without a flight despite the ‘cancellation insurance’ and really hurt the app for future flight purposes for me.
Hi Gai Young, thanks for your feedback, and we're sorry for any inconvenience you may have encountered. It is not the service we expect you to receive. Please share the detailed concern, passenger/guest name, reserved email, and booking number, if any, at [email protected] so we can investigate further. Thank you.

Holiday inn Southeast in Plainsboro, NJ

This hidden gem hotel provides all of the amazing amenities of the Crown Plaza Princeton ( which is basically attached to the holiday inn on an amazingly beautiful 27+ wooded acres featuring extensive running trails, a beautiful pond and multiply fountains and waterfalls….. not surprisingly, the IHG/Crown Plaza is frequently the site of weddings as well as conventions of a less romantic bent…. I was a guest at Holiday Inn/IHG Southeast for the Fall/winter of 2023 and was very impressed with their newly updated rooms ( renovation was completed on the Holiday Less than 6 months ago and the rooms have a splashy , bright, modern look that I actually prefer to the Crown a plaza , all while sharing the amenities of the aforementioned hotel….. it’s truly a great value! I’d like to conclude with a special Thank You especially to Jothathan as well as the other entire front desk staff who made my staff exceptionally comfortable, they were friendly and went above and beyond throughout my entire stay …. The housekeeping staff is also extremely helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Bari WoodmaN NY,NY Solo Traveler

Cheap Flights

Find cheap flights

Wonderful things are happening

Tips on Booking Cheap Flights

  • Fly during the working week Opting to take your flight during the working week can save you money. Flights departing over this period – especially Tuesdays and Wednesdays – are cheaper, mainly because these days are less popular to travel on.
  • Have a look at airline websites Many airline websites have made it simpler to identify the inexpensive days to fly by displaying a "calendar view" booking system. This system allows you to scan prices ranging across the week that you are searching.
  • Consider flights with less-popular departure times You may also get a bargain flight if you're willing to fly at an early hour. It may well be less expensive to fly at 6 am than at later times due to that time spot being less popular. The only problem you could face is getting to the airport at this time; make sure that public transport is running if you can't take a taxi or get a lift to the airport.
  • Find a better price on the Trip.com app This may sound like I'm stating the obvious, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who settle for a price without first shopping around and doing some research. We suggest you have a look for bargains on the Trip.com app. The Trip.com Save & Fly browser extension is a big help when learning how to get cheap flight tickets. While you're looking for airline tickets online, the extension notifies you of whether the exact same flight is available on Trip.com at a better price. It's completely free to install and use, and it takes some of the pressure off booking your tickets.
  • Book early instead of waiting until the last minute Don't get fooled into thinking that last-minute deals are necessarily the best option for cheap flight tickets because they seldom are. The smart move is to book early, even as far as a year in advance if that is possible for the flight you require. Flight tickets have a tendency to be cheaper when they are first released – which is normally about a year before the flight – so have a look online as soon as the flights you want are available. This is particularly true if you are planning to travel during school holidays or to a destination where a famous event is taking place. These prices will increase rapidly, so book before the masses do. The price of a flight may drop again before re-climbing in the last few days before the flight takes off but they also may not. It's not worth the risk of waiting for a drop in prices only to be faced with higher prices for leaving it until the last minute. You also run the risk that the tickets will become sold out before you book yours, especially if it's a popular flight. If you're willing to be flexible, which is really the name of the game for cheap flight tickets, then have a look at a flight search engine as it may post flight tickets which get lower in price as the flight time approaches.
  • Use a credit card in a wiser way There are a lot of advantages to paying for a flight with a credit card. One advantage is that you are protected when you make bigger purchases. For example, if you spend more than $100 on a flight, you will be covered for a refund if the airline or travel company goes out of business. This will not necessarily be the case if you pay with a debit card so check first. Credit cards are also more useful for spending in a foreign country and give you better exchange rates than you would get with your debit card. Certain credit cards will offer you air miles for each sum of money spent, thus saving you a bit more on your flight tickets. They may also give you a certain amount of cashback on the purchase of your flight ticket.
  • Choose flights with a connection Booking a flight with a connection is nearly always a cheaper option, especially on longer-haul flights. The best thing to do is to uncheck the "non-stop only" option on your flight booking website's search engine, and have a look to see if the flights shown are any cheaper. However, there is a degree of risk involved in this method of getting cheap air tickets. If one of your earlier flights is delayed, this could mean that you miss a later connecting flight.
  • Book package holidays which may offer cheap flight tickets If you book a package holiday, you are likely to get discounts on flights as well as accommodation. This is because travel companies book tickets in such large volumes that they get huge discounts. It is sometimes possible to get a whole holiday for less than the price of a regular flight.
  • Be aware of hidden costs of cheap flights Be aware that cheap flight tickets with budget airlines can be deceptive. Very often there can be hidden costs, so check for air taxes, baggage fees, or seat selection costs before you buy. Airlines can also add travel insurance and other features on automatically without checking to see if you want them first. Travel light if it's possible. Carry-on baggage is usually free, but be sure to check the regulations on weight limitations first.

Amtrak train delays expected between NYC, DC, Philadelphia after severe service disruption

trip c

Multiple Amtrak trains between New York and Washington D.C. were suspended Wednesday due to downed overhead power lines between Newark, New Jersey and New York's Penn Station.

While service resumed Thursday morning, trains are expected to experience continued delays, according to an 8 a.m. update on Amtrak’s website .

The transportation provider added that all trains traveling between Philadelphia and Trenton, New Jersey can expect a 25-30 minute delay .

"Customers with reservations on trains that are being modified will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day," Amtrak said in its advisory.

Amtrak and NJ Transit services were impacted shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday due to downed wires just outside of Newark near Kearny, the location of the Portal Bridge and the construction of its replacement, NorthJersey.com, part of the USA TODAY Network reported . However, an Amtrak spokesperson Thursday morning said the wire issues had nothing to do with the bridge or the construction.

"A signal wire came into contact with the catenary, causing a blowout," Jason Abrams, an Amtrak spokesperson said. An investigation into how the two wires came into contact is ongoing.

Wednesday's incident affected service as far south as Washington D.C. and Amtrak warned travelers to "expect extensive residual delays due to speed restrictions and rail congestion."

"We anticipate extensive delays as crews work to resolve this issue," Amtrak had said.

Amtrak said it was waiving fees for changing reservations on affected lines and customers should reach out to contact its reservation center at 1-800-USA-RAIL.

Unsung benefits of a trip to the park (and why DC ranks No. 1 in the nation)

A trip to the park is one of life’s simple pleasures.

For the fourth straight year, D.C.’s park access tops the Trust for Public Land’s Annual ParkScore Index — and the study finds the benefits go beyond having great playgrounds, pickleball courts, dog parks and amphitheaters.

“I think people take for granted when you see green space, and how therapeutic it is,” said Thennie Freeman, director of D.C. Parks and Recreation. “Access to nature is essential to everyone’s happiness.”

The study shows 99% of D.C. residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park. Within the District of Columbia, 24% of the land is reserved for parks, including National Park Service land.

The District scores high in park equity as well.

“Residents of Washington, D.C. neighborhoods where most residents identify as Black, Latino, Indigenous and Native American, or Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have access to about the same amount of park space as residents of neighborhoods, where most of the population identifies as white,” according to the nonprofit Trust for Public Land.

Freeman said the District has invested — $345 per capita — in creating and maintaining parks for residents with a wide variety of interests.

“Whether it’s a dog park, whether it’s playgrounds, whether it’s the amphitheater named after [go-go music icon] Chuck Brown, where you can have a concert in the park,” Freeman said. “We have skateparks and public pools.”

Arlington, Virginia, ranks No. 5 in the nation, according to the ParkScore index. Baltimore, Maryland, ranks No. 43.

While some use the District’s parks for activities, others seek solace.

“Some people just want to go to the park and sit and absorb nature, because nature can be so therapeutic,” Freeman explained. “People are more lonely than ever, especially post-COVID, so parks are a way people can get some connectivity.”

According to the study, residents of cities ranking in the top quarter of the ParkScore index are 60% more likely to have volunteered in the past 12 months than residents of lower-ranking cities.

In addition, residents of higher-ranking cities are 26% more likely to form friendships with people in different socio-economic groups.

Spending time in nature has been shown to benefit people’s physical and mental health.

“Even if it’s just people-watching, there’s healing, there’s laughter, there’s joy,” said Freeman. “It’s contagious, just to watch people have a good time.”

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The road Karl-Anthony Towns has taken with the Minnesota Timberwolves to reach the Western Conference finals has been far more lonely and rocky than smooth and straight.

For all the setbacks and struggles over nine NBA seasons that largely overshadowed the success, Towns has seen the payoff this spring for his commitment to — and sacrifice for — a franchise long stuck as the league’s most frequent losers.

“You see how at peace and happy he is right now,” coach Chris Finch said after Minnesota ousted defending champion Denver in Game 7 of their second-round series on Sunday. “He had to trust that he was never going to be marginalized. All young players always think they can do it all by themselves, but in this league nobody can. He’s been on many teams where he’s had to do a lot, and he’s got incredible skill to do so, but he’s really bought in to doing all the other things we need him to do.”

The Wolves host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday night. Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic will be the featured attraction on either side, but the Wolves wouldn’t be here without Towns.

The four-time All-Star’s overachievement on defense against Kevin Durant helped spur a first-round sweep of Phoenix. His close guarding of three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic contributed to the takedown of Denver. Towns is averaging 18.8 points and 9.3 rebounds over the 11 playoff games, with a 44% hit rate on 3-pointers and just 20 turnovers.

“Ant’s game complements KAT’s game and vice versa. When you talk about whose team it is, it’s kind of a funny phrase. You can see Ant is giving praise to KAT, and KAT’s giving praise to Ant,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “When you talk about great teammates, they play together at a high level.”

The Wolves are not only in rare position as the series favorite — albeit slight, at minus-185 to win according to BetMGM odds — but they’ve only made it this far once before.

Towns, the first overall pick in the 2015 draft, was a gangly 8-year-old growing up in New Jersey when NBA MVP Kevin Garnett guided the Wolves to the Western Conference finals in 2004.

“To be here this year with these guys and this team after all that,” Towns said, “it’s just super satisfying.”

Towns was drafted by executive and coach Flip Saunders, who died of cancer four months later. The only time the Wolves made the playoffs in his first six years was 2018, when Jimmy Butler sparked a 47-35 record — before instigating a conflict around contract demands and disparate personalities on his way out soon after that. The Wolves had a cumulative .361 winning percentage in those other five years.

After Towns played in all 82 games in his first three seasons, the injury bug began to find him. His overall performance in first-round series losses in 2018, 2022 and 2023 was mixed at best. Personally, the biggest blow of all came at the beginning of the pandemic when his mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, died of complications from COVID-19 .

“He’s been through a lot. I’ve seen the work he puts in every day. He’s an amazing person, an amazing human being, and I want to see him win,” teammate Rudy Gobert said.

When the Wolves traded for Gobert before last season, the future for Towns in Minnesota turned cloudier. Their collection of maximum contracts has them headed for hefty luxury tax payments, making Towns a natural subject of trade speculation around the league. But president of basketball operations Tim Connelly believed in the two-big strategy that has flourished this season after a rough debut.

“It’s not often you ask your All-NBA player to kind of accommodate others as they come in, but he was one of the first to form a fast chemistry with Rudy,” Finch said.

PUTTING THE ‘D’ IN DALLAS

The acquisition by the Mavericks of Kyrie Irving to form a dashing pick-and-roll duo with the prodigious Doncic didn’t take off on the first try, either.

They’ve hit their stride this spring, with trade deadline pickup P.J. Washington Jr. deftly complementing them as a third scorer and the recently formed center tandem of Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II providing stout defense around the rim. The Mavericks have held their opponents to 101 points or fewer in seven of their 12 playoff games.

TRIPLE-DOUBLE RUN

Doncic finished the last series with three consecutive triple-doubles, capped by 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the clinching victory over Oklahoma City. The 25-year-old has four in these playoffs and seven in his postseason career.

Only four other NBA players have at least three consecutive triple-doubles in the playoffs: Wilt Chamberlain, Russell Westbrook, Draymond Green and Jokic. Chamberlain and Jokic share the record of four, and both won the title the year they did it — 1967 for Chamberlain with Philadelphia and 2023 for Jokic with Denver.

RALLY RECORDS

The Wolves came back from a 20-point deficit in the second half against Denver for the biggest Game 7 rally since the NBA began tracking play-by-play data 28 years ago. The Mavericks trailed by 17 points in the second half in their series-clinching Game 6 victory against Oklahoma City, the largest postseason comeback in franchise history.

The Minnesota Lynx, who share with the Wolves the Target Center arena and team headquarters across the street, were WNBA champions in 2011, 2013 and 2015. None of the major Minnesota men’s professional sports franchises has reached the final round, however, since the Twins were baseball’s world champions in 1991. That’s also the last time a local men’s team won a title.

Even a spot in the semifinals has been elusive in this state. Since the Wolves made their only other Western Conference finals appearance in 2004, Minnesota has had only three final-four teams over a possible 79 combined seasons in the NBA, NHL, NFL and Major League Baseball. The Vikings had the other two, making the NFC championship games after the 2009 and 2017 seasons.

Remember last year's Memorial Day travel jams? Chances are they will be much worse this year

Highways and airports are likely to be jammed in the coming days as Americans head out on and home from Memorial Day weekend getaways

You didn’t think summer travel would be easy, did you?

Highways and airports are likely to be jammed the next few days as Americans head out for Memorial Day weekend getaways and then return home.

AAA predicts this will be the busiest start-of-summer weekend in nearly 20 years, with 43.8 million people expected to travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday and Monday. The Transportation Security Administration says up to 3 million might pass through airport checkpoints on Friday alone.

What to Know About the I.C.C. Prosecutor’s Request for Warrants for Israeli and Hamas Leaders

The International Criminal Court prosecutor requested arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and Hamas leaders. Here is a closer look at the court and the warrant.

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court said on Monday that he had requested arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and the leaders of Hamas. Here’s a closer look at the court and the warrants.

The prosecutor is accusing both sides of war crimes.

The court’s prosecutor, Karim Khan, said in a statement that he was applying for arrest warrants for Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas because he had “reasonable grounds to believe” that they were responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, which included “the killing of hundreds of Israeli civilians” in the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, and the taking of at least 245 hostages.

Mr. Khan said that the Hamas officials “planned and instigated the commission of crimes” on that day, and that they “have acknowledged their responsibility for those crimes” through their actions, such as personal visits to hostages shortly after their kidnapping.

The prosecutor cited accusations of murder, extermination, hostage-taking, and acts of sexual violence. He also said he had reasonable grounds to believe the officials were responsible for acts of torture and cruel treatment.

Mr. Khan also said that he had requested arrest warrants for Mr. Netanyahu and Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, because there were reasonable grounds to believe that they bore responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the starvation of civilians as a weapon of war and “intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population.”

Mr. Khan said that these crimes were committed “as part of a widespread and systematic attack against the Palestinian civilian population.” He also said that in his office’s view, some of the crimes “continue to this day.”

“International law and the laws of armed conflict apply to all,” he said. “No foot soldier, no commander, no civilian leader — no one — can act with impunity. Nothing can justify willfully depriving human beings, including so many women and children, the basic necessities required for life. Nothing can justify the taking of hostages or the targeting of civilians.”

The International Criminal Court was set up under a 1998 treaty, but the U.S. and Israel didn’t sign.

The International Criminal Court is an international court that has jurisdiction to prosecute people for war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.

It was established in 2002 as a standing body to investigate those crimes under a 1998 treaty known as the Rome Statute. Previously, the United Nations Security Council had set up ad hoc tribunals to address atrocities in specific places, like the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.

The I.C.C. is based in The Hague, a Dutch city that has long been a center for international law and justice. It is separate from the International Court of Justice, an international tribunal also in The Hague which is an arm of the United Nations and handles civil disputes between countries. The latter is currently weighing a claim brought by South Africa that Israel is conducting a genocide in Gaza . Israel has strongly denied the accusation.

Many democracies joined the International Criminal Court, including close American allies like Britain. The court has recognized Palestine as a member since 2015.

But neither Israel nor the United States is a member. The United States, which conducts numerous military operations abroad, has taken the position that the court should not exercise jurisdiction over citizens from countries that are not parties to the treaty.

That position, however, has been tested by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia is not a member, but Ukraine is. Last year, the court issued arrest warrants for President Vladimir V. Putin and another Russian official, saying they bore individual criminal responsibility for the abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. After a lengthy internal debate, President Biden ordered the U.S. government to share evidence of Russian war crimes with the court.

The arrest warrants would have the immediate effect of limiting travel for the targets.

Mr. Khan’s request for warrants must still be approved by judges on the court. If they are issued, the warrants would put both the Israeli officials and Hamas leaders at risk of being arrested and sent to The Hague for trial if they travel to one of the court’s 124 member nations , which include most European countries.

Presumably they would not go to countries that would arrest and extradite them, in which case they may never stand trial. But the effective travel restrictions would function as a kind of punishment in and of themselves.

“Israel will be more isolated after this action,” said Stephen Rapp, a former U.S. ambassador at large who headed the Office of Global Criminal Justice in the State Department. He said that if the arrest warrants go ahead, the named officials “will find it hard to travel to two-thirds of the world.”

The warrant request represents one of the harshest condemnations of Israel’s strategy in its war against Hamas and its campaign’s toll on Gaza’s civilian population. But Mr. Rapp said that Israel “has proved itself sort of immune to international pressure, ” and it was unclear whether the prosecutor’s actions would have an impact on its strategy in Gaza.

The I.C.C. cannot try defendants in absentia . It also has no police force, relying on member states to arrest fugitives and transfer them to The Hague.

In the case of Mr. Putin, the judges approved the request within weeks.

The prosecutor is accusing Israeli officials of intentionally targeting civilians and using starvation as a weapon.

Mr. Khan said that he believed Israeli officials were responsible for intentionally attacking civilians, but he largely focused on allegations of starvation, and extermination or murder “including in the context of deaths caused by starvation.”

For months, Israel has been criticized for the scale of civilian deaths, but Israeli officials have blamed Hamas for the toll, accusing the armed group of using civilians as a shield, its fighters deliberately hiding among and beneath noncombatants.

Under the laws of war, it can be lawful to pull the trigger knowing that some civilian bystanders are likely to be killed, so long as the harm to innocents is deemed to be necessary and proportionate to striking a legitimate military target.

Mr. Rapp, the former U.S. ambassador, said that prosecutors’ greater emphasis on accusations that Israeli officials have restricted the transfer of critical supplies of food and medicine to civilians may be because that issue is “relatively simple” compared to second-guessing targeting decisions.

“The humanitarian rules are very strict,” he said, adding that a state which conducts a military operation in an area of which it controls the perimeter must ensure that civilians have the means of survival.

“If you look at the black letter of international law in this area, it is actually very, very clear,” he said.

Israel’s foreign minister denounced the warrant applications.

Neither Mr. Netanyahu nor Mr. Gallant immediately commented on the decision.

Israel’s foreign minister, Israel Katz, said that he had ordered the immediate establishment of a special committee aimed at fighting the decision, which he said “was intended first and foremost to tie the hands of the State of Israel and deny it the right of self-defense.”

The “scandalous” prosecutor’s decision, he said, “is a frontal attack without restraint on the victims of Oct. 7 and our 128 hostages in Gaza.”

In a statement on Telegram, Hamas condemned the warrant requests against its leaders. It said that the prosecutor should demand the arrest not only of Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Gallant but of all “leaders, officers and soldiers who participated in crimes against the Palestinian people.”
