Elton John: a rollicking, joyous show from rock’s last true survivor – in Australia for the final time

The megastar has long had a special relationship to the country – and on his final shows in Sydney, among his last ever tour, his fans relished every second

“I can’t tell you how good it feels to have a hit single at 75,” says Elton John , as his famous grin flashes at the stadium crowd gathered for his last ever shows in Sydney. He’s in the midst of his final tour of Australia, in the city that has long been his home away from home, going back to the 1980s.

“Hit single” might be somewhat underselling the globe-conquering ubiquitousness of Cold Heart , a reimagining of several of his classic songs seamlessly combined into a wholly unreasonable banger by Australian producers Pnau, who get a shout-out from the stage. “Things are really good in my life,” he says from where he is seated at the piano, playfully conducting everyone’s dancing in a manner that can only be described as adorable. This is the start of the final encore, and he is wearing a diamante-embroidered kimono over a tracksuit bearing his name. Elton John can, does and always has done exactly what he wants; and if you think that time may have even slightly wearied him, you would be very, very wrong.

For the previous two-plus hours, John and his band of fellow virtuoso journeymen musicians have raucously stomped and wailed through one of rock’s most hit-riddled catalogues, almost without pause. Perhaps so as not to upstage the sartorial magnificence of their leader, the rest are dressed in black suits and skinny ties, like the world’s jauntiest Reservoir Dogs. The core trio of Elton John, Nigel Olsson and Davey Johnstone remain, and play together with the osmosis that more than 40 years of shared musicianship will bestow. Augmented by a small orchestra of percussion and additional keys, the absolute racket they are making is ungodly. Bringing the audience to heel with that opening chord of Bennie and the Jets, straight off the bat there will be no dilly-dallying! If you’re going to start a show with that minor little smash, then stick around: they’ll kill the fatted calf tonight.

Elton John and band at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney

Australia has housed a huge Elton John fanbase for decades – the only places he has played more often are the US and UK. In recent years he likes spending his family Christmas here, he tells us – but there’s much more to it than that . He had career-saving throat surgery in Sydney in the 1980s; launched a record there at the Hilton hotel; delighted in the offerings of Harry’s Cafe de Wheels ; and in Melbourne, produced a truly bonkers – even for him – documentary about a gig with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

These were his years of unfettered excess (which would eventually land him in rehab), during which he made the video for the cuttingly brutal breakup anthem I’m Still Standing on the French Riviera with Australian director Russell Mulcahy. That production could well have been powered by the pure, pharmaceutical-grade cocaine he writes repeatedly about using in his memoir ( someone stole Elton’s car on the shoot – and that was before Duran Duran showed up ). Then there was the time, as detailed in Me , that – while supremely wasted – he bought a tram in Melbourne that had to be delivered to his British estate by Chinook helicopter, the details of which he does not precisely remember. If one is to be a rock star, that’s how to do it properly.

Those hellion days long in the past (now sober, happily married and a father of two), Elton John is before us on this stage as rock’s last true survivor. The band tear through a set list of mostly his golden era 70s material, when he was giving some of the loudest prog and glam rock bands of the time a good run for their money with psychedelic wig-outs such as Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (played to its full, rock-opera 10 minutes), Levon, and the very deep cut, Have Mercy On the Criminal. His downshift in vocal range sees some new arrangements for Tiny Dancer and Rocket Man – during the latter of which his immensely powerful reverberating baritone fills the bowels of the arena and lodges itself firmly in the listener’s chest.

These songs have soundtracked my entire life since childhood: Philadelphia Freedom, Candle in the Wind, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me. These are the sounds of my parents’ kitchen, as familiar to me as any nursery rhyme. They feel part of my DNA, staying with me right up until these two nights. What it is, to be a fan.

Elton John

By the time Your Song comes around as the second-last of the night, the emotions are spilling out of the crowd. Your Song, if you don’t know the story, was, like almost every Elton John song, written in only about 10 minutes . Bernie Taupin’s lyrics were penned when they were two very young men of 23, working their guts out in the hope of becoming successful songwriters. Living together in a tiny London flat, its words of such pure sentiment – but not sentimentality – are transformed by the knowledge that in the intervening 50 years, this song has gone on to become one of the most enduring paeans to love of all time. He glances briefly up from his piano as he sings, “And you can tell everybody, that this is your song,” as the roar becomes deafening. I still have tears on my shirt.

With this we know that for the very last time, this man of incredible, generous, irreplaceable genius will never play this stage for us again. “Be kind to each other,” he says, thanking his fans for staying his course. On his second night in Sydney (yes, I went to both), the floor crowd is being covered in sheets of rain lit by the lights of the stage as if it were a deliberate part of the show. Something like this can only end on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and as the final harmonies between he and his band ring in the air, Elton John walks off the stage and into the next phase of his life, as we walk away into the night, saturated, knowing why the man perhaps least likely to have become an international megastar was always destined to be just that.

So here’s to you, Sir Elton Hercules John, Reggie Dwight, Captain Fantastic, Sharon ( to Rod Stewart ), the Royal Academy of Music’s most flamboyant graduate, Nasa’s number one Rocket Man – your like will never come around again.

Elton John’s final Australian tour concludes at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on 21 January , followed by dates in New Zealand and Europe

REVIEW – ELTON JOHN: FAREWELL YELLOW BRICK ROAD TOUR – AAMI PARK, MELBOURNE

Review: Greg Phillips Photos: Jonathan White

It was 49 years ago, almost to the day that I first saw Elton John perform at the South Melbourne Football Ground, merely 5 months after the release of his iconic double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road . A lifetime of achievements have since occurred for the legendary musician, including 300 million in record sales and a lifetime of memories have been experienced by his fans. It’s hard to believe that this is the last time we’ll ever see Elton John on tour again in Australia. In fact, we thought we’d seen the last of Elton a couple of years ago but thanks to the rescheduling of a couple of New Zealand shows due to the pandemic, he tagged on another farewell Australian tour to make it all worth his while.

So it has come to this, Elton John’s 52nd (he tells us) and final tour performance in Melbourne, a city which has meant so much to him. It’s where he recorded his 1987 album Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, a concert I was also blessed to be at.   Tonight, in searing heat, around 30,000 fans gave Elton the welcome he thoroughly deserved as the music icon walked to the stage and took his position at the Yamaha grand piano. There aren’t many songs in rock history that you recognise immediately from one single note but Bennie and The Jets is certainly one of them. A perfectly executed Philadelphia Freedom followed and the barrage of hits had begun. I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues was next and only three songs in, it was obvious that the man’s vocal strength is still there, albeit in a lower register than he performed in five decades ago.

Border Song gave Elton the opportunity to pay tribute to soul queen Aretha Franklin, who gave   Elton and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin the ultimate compliment by recording his song in 1972 for her album Young, Gifted and Black . Tiny Dancer , a song off his 1971 album Madman Across The Water , probably didn’t receive the attention it really deserved until it was used as part of the soundtrack to Cameron Crowe’s 2000 hit movie Almost Famous . There was a strong melancholic feel about tonight’s version, as we knew this was the last we’d hear it live. Likewise, Rocket Man , spurred on by the recent success of the movie based on the life and career of Elton John, was received in different ways tonight. Depending on your age, it was either the soundtrack of your life in real time in the seventies or a new addition to your Spotify list in 2019.

Candle In The Wind was never one of my personal favourites but to the world it became synonymous with the death of Princess Diana. Of course it was met with rapturous applause tonight. Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding however, has always been an Elton John track I’ve greatly admired and the band’s performance of it at AAMI park was superb. So many great musicians have been in and out of Elton’s bands over the last five decades and significantly for this tour, stalwarts Davey Johnstone (guitar) Ray Cooper (percussion) and Nigel Olsson (drums) were all back to see the journey through to the end. You forget how many celebrated guitar solos Davey Johnstone has added to Elton’s songs and Love Lies Bleeding gave the guitar great an opportunity to shine. Like the previous song, Burn Down The Mission is not a short tune and after two extended   jams in a row, the 36 degree heat had Elton slumping over the piano to briefly catch his breath.

As the sun set and darkness began to descend, the full effect of the huge stage screens and lighting system kicked in, with the audience adding their own smartphone light show to the mix. Ironically, it was Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me which saw the end to Saturday’s daylight.

elton john past australian tours

Those who attended the previous night’s show in Melbourne had to endure Elton’s longtime friend Molly Meldrum bare his arse on stage during The Bitch is Back . Thankfully tonight, as much as we love Molly, we didn’t get a repeat performance of his impromptu moon dance. No Molly in sight tonight, however ‘Bitch’ was the beginning of a rocking run home. The crowd by now was fully invested in having the time of their lives. I’m Still Standing followed and absolutely nobody was sitting down anymore. Another superb guitar solo was delivered by Davey, played on his impressive Yellow Brick Road-painted Les Paul. Crocodile Rock gave Elton some vocal rest time as the audience en masse was more than happy to supply the chorus. Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting up next and you realise just how many historic rock staples the man has given us. After such a herculean effort by the band in the heat, they leave the stage to rehydrate but we know they’re far from done.

Elton returns to the stage sans band to euphoric applause, this time not for just an amazing show but in acknowledgment of a life and career lived like no other. There is only one Elton John and tonight it is we that are thanking you. The rocket man has succeeded for so long because he’s been able to adapt to the times and always be relevant. Recent successful collaborations with Dua Lipa and Britney Spears are proof that even as he hangs up the boots, Elton John still has what it takes to top the charts globally. With that in mind, he leads the audience in an a cappella version of Cold Heart . As Elton takes the verse, tonight we are all Dua Lipa! It’s a beautiful intimate moment between an iconic artist we love and 30,000 adoring Melbournians, although the amount of foreign accents heard prior to the gig suggest that there’s been plenty of fan fly-ins from all parts of the globe to join the farewell party. Your Song is our song and we sing along with gusto for the last time.

Elton takes to the microphone to say his final goodbyes. He thanks the city of Melbourne and Australian fans in general for making him feel so at home. He tells us his kids have also fallen in love with the country. He singles out one individual fan in the front row who as attended 55 Elton gigs. He tells us to “look after ourselves, be kind to each other. I wish you happiness, love health and prosperity and goodbye and farewell,” as he launches into Goodbye Yellow Brick Road for the last time. We sing uninhibitedly, like nobody’s watching and the applause at the end was at a level I’ve never heard before and of course he encourages us to roar even louder. He turns to reveal the letters EJ on the back of his jacket, a vision replicated on the screen behind him as he walks off down an animated yellow brick road. Thank you Sir Elton John for a game well played.

The Rocket Man will arrive in early 2023 and tour dates include Newcastle (January 10), Melbourne (January 13), Sydney (January 18) and Brisbane (January 21).

The 75-year-old first started his 30-date farewell tour of Australia in late 2019 and wrapped up in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic halted international touring.

His upcoming shows mark the first time the 25-time platinum artist has performed in Newcastle.

Frontier Touring promoter Michael Chugg said while the Rocket Man had performed in the Hunter Valley several times, he believed the show at McDonald Jones Stadium would draw new interest.

We know a lot of people in Newcastle don't go to the valley," he said. "And the stadiums had a big face lift. So we thought that would be pretty cool.

"I expect we'll get a great crowd. I know people will travel from Tamworth, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. The one thing about Elton is once you see him you want to go and see him again, because he's so brilliant.

"It will be an unbelievable show, he plays nearly three hours and it's full on Elton. Every song's a hit."

The veteran promoter hoped the concert would inspire more artists to add Newcastle to their touring schedules. "We'll be looking at it with any other major acts we bring in," Mr Chugg said.

Log into your Ticketmaster account and update your password if needed!

Get in early and ensure all your MyTicketmaster account details are up to date – from your password to your card details and your phone number.

Ticketmaster will regularly ask you to update your password to ensure the security of your account – you don’t want to get stuck having to change your password while the ticket timer is counting down during onsale as you can risk losing the incredible tickets you have secured.

Instead, now that you know you want to purchase tickets, log into your account and update your password today to ensure you are ready to nab those tickets.

Get to know Ticketmaster’s Smart Queue

If you aren’t familiar with  Smart Queue , it is Ticketmaster’s way of creating a clear and fair process for thousands of fans to buy tickets in a short space of time. Fans enter the virtual  Waiting Room  prior to onsale time before joining the  Smart Queue  – which acts as a ‘virtual line’, helping us protect you and your tickets in a more effective way.

The time you join the Waiting Room does not determine your place in the Smart Queue, so we recommend joining at least 10 minutes prior to the event going on sale.

When the sale begins, the Smart Queue will open and everyone in the Waiting Room is given a place in line. Those who did not join the Waiting Room will be placed at the end of the line.

  • Sign in to your Ticketmaster account at least 10 minutes before joining the Waiting Room. This will speed up your purchase later.
  • Confirm you have a valid form of payment in your account with current email and billing information. This will make checkout a breeze.
  • Resist the urge to refresh. Your page will automatically refresh when you enter the Smart Queue.
  • Keep an eye on the time! When it’s your turn, your spot will be held for 10 minutes to begin shopping.
  • Just like before, tickets are always based on availability, demand, and are not guaranteed.

Find out more about Ticketmaster’s Waiting Room and Smart Queue here

In Demand tickets are ticket-only purchases, and prices are subject to change at any time.

How many Elton John tour tickets can I buy?

There is a ticket limit of 6 (six) tickets per customer for all Elton John Presales.

There is a ticket limit of 10 (ten) tickets per customer for General Public Onsale.

These are licensed, loud music events, staged over a long time and we do not recommend attendance by children aged 5 years and under. Children 14 and under must always be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and have purchased a valid ticket. All patrons must hold a valid ticket, regardless of age.

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Elton John tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as they’re progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour

Having toured relentlessly since 1970, playing almost 4,600 shows in 80 countries in the ensuing half a century, elton made the decision in 2017 that it was time to come off the road so he could fully embrace the next important chapter of his life and dedicate more time to his family. the farewell yellow brick road tour subsequently broke records, pushed boundaries and shattered expectations in a five year period of celebratory activity that solidified elton’s status in the very highest echelons of popular culture across the generations..

Elton John Australian Tour

Elton John Australian Tour

Elton John Australian Tour. Elton John will be performing in Perth , Canberra ,  Sydney ,  Melbourne  and  Launceston .

Forty years ago, during April 1972, Elton John's single 'Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long Long Time)' was released around the world. To celebrate the landmark 40 year anniversary of its release, Sir Elton John has been taking the celebrations globally for a world tour and will be returning to our shores for his record 42nd Sydney Entertainment Centre show plus a very special run of shows, some in parts of Australia he's never been.

To kick things off, Elton John will perform during the opening week of the brand new Perth Arena on Monday 12th November. Following on from Perth, the tour then heads to our nation's capital, Canberra for a show at Canberra Stadium on Wednesday 14th November, before finishing things up at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Thursday 15th November – taking his record number of shows at the iconic Sydney venue to a staggering 42.

Performing with a full band, Elton's shows will commemorate the 40 years since the release of Rocket Man as well as being a celebration of Elton's greatest hits. Fans can expect to see this timeless entertainer take them on a journey thru his multi-decade career, backed by his ever-dynamic touring band.

The single, Rocket Man, was a global success, breaking records in multiple territories around the world and achieving the highest chart positions ever held at that point by any Elton John single.

More than just a charting success, Rocket Man held esteemed critical acclaim across the globe garnering reviews following the 1972 release such as this from UK music bible, Disc magazine; "This is by far the best thing Elton John has ever done - it's quite superb...this band is great, the song is great, Bernie Taupin's lyrics are great and if the Honky Chateau LP is going to be like this you're going to have to listen to it in little doses or you'll go mad. After two hearings I was so busy singing along that I couldn't get myself organised into taking notes about the structure of the record. Consumer, not critic, that's me, and I can consume music like this for evermore."

Beyond these many accolades, Rocket Man also held with it a cultural and historical significance that remains unrivalled by any other song. Elton's American record company connected the release of Rocket Man to the launch of Apollo 16, and took out press advertisements saying 'On the morning of April 16, 1972, Apollo 16 was launched into orbit on a journey to the moon. A few mornings earlier Uni Records launched a new Elton John single into a world-wide orbit. WHAT A TRIP! Both launchings bound to set new records.'

On 28 April 1972 Elton and the band played a concert at Hofheinz Pavilion, University of Houston, Texas, the second date of their 1972 American tour. Ahead of the show, the Rocket Man met the 'rocket men' at the Manned Space Centre in Houston, Texas, where Al Worden, Apollo 15 command module pilot, took Elton, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson and Davey Johnstone on a conducted tour of the NASA headquarters.

In April of this year, Elton was told that European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut André Kuipers had made a special point of playing Rocket Man over the airwaves of the International Space Station (ISS) on the song's fortieth anniversary. André said, "This song has been an inspiration to many people who are interested in space, and especially those who wanted to become astronauts, including myself. It is certainly one of the most played songs here on the ISS, and we know it will accompany more astronauts into space in the future."

Be sure to join in the celebration of this landmark anniversary.

Crowded House's new album Gravity Stairs proves Neil Finn still has that greatness

Five members of band Crowded House before a dark red background

Winter is upon us, which means fewer daylight hours to spend gallivanting in your local park and more time to kick up your feet and put on some new music.

If you don't know where to start, here are five new albums we think are worthy of your time. We hope you find something you'll love.

Crowded House – Gravity Stairs

black and white sketches of the members of rock band crowded house

Gravity Stairs — Neil Finn's eighth record with the world-conquering Crowded House — is testament to the timeless quality of his songwriting.

It's also a clear indication that the newest incarnation of this iconic band is gelling beautifully. They're a great advertisement for nepotism, as the frontman's sons Liam and Elroy continue to prove their musical and creative value across the new album.

Finn's songs remain the hero, though. When you hear him lightly channel Bowie on 'Some Greater Plan (for Claire)', deliver vintage melodies on 'All That I Can Ever Own', and lock in with his family and friends on the breezy chorus to 'Oh Hi', you'll be so glad that the man has never chosen to rest on his laurels.

Tempting as it may be to load up your playlist with vintage Crowded House classics, a few spins of Gravity Stairs will give you an even deeper appreciation for one of the all-time great bands. They tour Australia at the end of this year.

Cosmo's Midnight – Stop Thinking Start Feeling

Cosmo's Midnight pose back-to-back on the cover of third album against blue background in jeans, white top and sunglasses

Consisting of Sydney-bred producers and twin brothers Pat and Cosmo Liney, Cosmo's Midnight have been a fixture of Australia's electronic music scene for more than a decade.

The duo's credits include work for everyone from K-pop titans BTS to First Nations pop star Jessica Mauboy , but they truly shine making collaborative tunes on their own albums.

Following on from 2020's ARIA-nominated Yesteryear , their third studio effort has been a long time coming, recorded over three years between Australia, London and Los Angeles.

Despite six of the album's 10 tracks already having been released as singles, Stop Thinking Start Feeling doesn't feel overly familiar. Rather, it hangs together as a Venn diagram of highly polished dance-pop, silky disco and summery funk.

The Tkay Maidza-assisted 'Bang My Line' grooves and bops in ways Cosmo's grooviest, boppiest material hasn't before. 'Chance On You' grounds the otherworldly vocals of Kučka (a long-time collaborator of Flume's ) in a nocturnal funk setting.

Another banger, 'Borrowed Time', features the impeccably smooth vocals of rising Naarm talent Forest Claudette, and its flashy rhythms would perfectly soundtrack sipping a cocktail poolside or busting a move under a glitter ball.

The only better way to experience this album's slick brand of body-moving would be stepping outside for a real-life boogie by seeing Cosmo's Midnight on tour around the country in July . Go on, stop thinking about the rhythm and start feeling it.

Vince Staples – Dark Times

A black square with the words DARK TIMES in barely legible black text

Vince Staples isn't the biggest name in modern hip hop, but he's been one of the genre's most consistently captivating voices of the past decade. On his sixth album, Dark Times, the Californian rapper gives an insight into life's gloomier moments — from heartbreak to gang violence to mental health struggles.

While that's hardly new territory, Staples has a unique and gripping way with words. 'Justin' is a heartbreaking story about meeting a woman who very quickly breaks his heart. 'Little Homies' sees Staples as a role model, showing the younger generation how to seek out a fulfilling life and get through the hard times.

On 'Government Cheese' he raps about getting a call from a friend in prison, and not being able to come clean about how, despite his fame, his life isn't as great as it might seem.

Staples's work is always effortlessly clever, and his emotive but never overwrought storytelling on Dark Times is something to be treasured.

GIMMY – Things Look Different Now

Woman with short, balayge hair stands with her back to camera, holding up a TV with text written on screen

If you hold names like Courtney Barnett, Julia Jacklin and Stella Donnelly dear, you owe it to yourself to check out the debut album from GIMMY (pronounced "gimme"), the solo project of Byron region singer-songwriter Gemma Owens .

The record offers a smorgasbord of guitar-based goodness: There's atmospheric post-punk in the title track; a verandah-worthy, alt-country singalong in Oh Suzie; and Watered a Fern is distinctly Australian jangle-pop. There's also lashings of surf- and pub-rock, psychedelia, and intimate folk across the album's 47-minute run time.

A robust backing band deftly animates Owens's songwriting, but what really elevates this above your average indie rock release is Owens herself.

Her voice is instantly charming and her lyrics are effortlessly relatable, whether she's offering absurd, spoken-word innuendo on the New Wave-soaked ' Bathrooms' ("Can you touch my baguette?") or describing a romantic picnic on a budget. "Cheap wine will have to do while I'm still working at Woolies," she sings on ' Tell Me I'm Your Girl '.

She's also disarmingly vulnerable on songs that make excellent use of her tender, quivering vibrato, such as swooning stand-out 'Fall on Me'. Then there's the quietly devastating, misogyny-skewering 'My Body's My Body'.

"Do I have to get used to them glaring at my chest before breakfast? Didn't having sisters teach you about respect?" Owens laments, expressing an exhausting experience too many young women would be uncomfortably familiar with.

Things Look Different Now is an impressive debut that marks the arrival of an act with hugely promising talent.

For fans of: Julia Jacklin, Jeff Buckley, Angel Olsen

Tiny Habits – All for Something

Birds eye view of Boston trio Tiny Hands spinning in blurred motion on grey tarmac

With their exquisite vocal harmonies and classic folk-pop stylings, Boston-based trio Tiny Habits evoke a bygone era of songwriting circa Laurel Canyon in the 70s. Their origin story, however, is thoroughly modern.

Berklee College of Music students Maya Rae, Cinya Khan, and Judah Mayowa met in 2021 and began posting casual shot-on-campus videos to TikTok. Their intimate covers of Carly Rae Jepsen , Kacey Musgraves and Coldplay promptly went viral.

Tiny Habits now count both David Crosby and Phoebe Bridgers as fans, which is fitting given their sublime, closely stacked singing will (depending on your age demographic) remind you of Crosby, Stills & Nash or "sad girl" supergroup boygenius .

Debut album All for Something tugs at the heartstrings with sincere, poetic lyrics. But it also soothes the soul with warm, subtle production characterised by dusky finger-picking, gentle streaks of piano, slide guitar, and airy percussion.

'Flicker' concerns a dissolving relationship but feels like a loving hug, and the confessional 'Wishes' sees each member sharing painful truths but comes off more cathartic than concerning.

The emotional one-two of 'Broken' and 'Planting Flowers' suggests the trio are most comfortable crafting slow, sad ballads, but then they pick up the pace with the sunny burst of energy that is 'I Don't Have the Heart'.

If you're after easy listening that purges not-so-easy emotions, or a vital reminder of the simple magic of human voices singing together, look no further than Tiny Habits.

Taylor Swift, ‘Eras’ tour shatters highest-grossing tour milestone

I t was inevitable that Taylor Swift and her “ Eras” tour was going to become the highest-grossing concert tour ever. She beat out the likes of Elton John , Coldplay, and U2 for the honor. And the tour isn’t over yet.

In a new report from the BBC, they reveal that Swift’s “Eras” tour has sold 11 million tickets. That has resulted in an estimated £1.7 billion in estimated revenue (that’s over $2.1 billion USD). These numbers come across the 152 dates that Swift has planned for the tour across 22 countries.

This makes the “Eras” tour the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. It’s on pace to gross over $2 billion when it’s all said and done. This is a stark contrast from her “Reputation” tour, which reportedly failed to sell out in the UK. BBC cites a report that said that Swift’s opening night in Manchester had 18,000 empty seats. These days, it’s nearly impossible to spot one.

To make the figures even more impressive, the “Eras” tour haul doesn’t even include merchandise sales or the theatrical box office haul of Swift’s concert film. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was released mid-tour in October 2023 and grossed over $260 million at the box office (the highest-grossing concert film of all time).

The “Eras” tour

On March 17, 2023, Swift kicked off her sixth concert tour. The “Eras” tour is her most ambitious tour to date — Swift takes fans on a three-hour journey through her discography throughout the 45-song set.

She spent most of 2023 playing shows across North America before making her way to Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.

In 2024, Swift resumed the tour with shows in Japan, Australia, and Singapore before taking another break. On May 9, 2024, Swift picked up the tour with a European leg of the “Eras” tour.

This current leg of the tour will conclude with a five-night stay at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Swift will then return to North America and play shows in Florida, Louisiana, and Indiana.

To close out the “Eras” tour, Swift will go to Canada. Nine dates are planned across Toronto and Vancouver. The final shows will take place from December 6-9 in Vancouver.

Who is Taylor Swift?

Taylor Swift is one of the highest-selling artists of all time. She is decorated with accolades and awards.

Thus far in her career, Swift has received 52 Grammy Award nominations. She has won 14 awards and is coming off of a year in which she won two awards — Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights.

At the ceremony, Swift announced her eleventh album of original music, The Tortured Poets Department. This was her follow-up to Midnights and a break from her re-recorded work. An extended version of the album came out hours after the original album with 15 more tracks.

In addition to her original music, Swift has spent a lot of the last few years re-recording her past work released by Big Machine Records. She began the (Taylor’s Version) series in 2021 with a re-recorded version of Fearless. She subsequently re-recorded Red, Speak Now, and 1989.

The only albums left for Swift to re-record are Reputation and her self-titled debut album.
