Travel Lite Crib with Stages Review

One of the things I love the most about having a baby is co-sleeping. It was great for us for the very first weeks of my son’s life, a life saver during the night specially while breastfeeding and during the day at nap times. I love cuddling with my baby and just feeling him close to me. Best feeling ever!

During the first months I was able to co-sleep without any problems but as my baby grew older we had to move him into his bassinet. He wanted more space in the bed and we were getting no sleep from getting constant kicks and punches at night. Oh well, we have a little kicker!

I was o.k. having him sleep in the bassinet since it was just by my side of the bed and I was able to reach/see him easily. We continued using it until he turned 4 months and he was above the weight/height limit for it. The bassinet was for babies less than 14lbs and my son was 15lbs then. I didn’t want him to sleep alone in his room at 4 months and I was having a hard time finding a bassinet that was small enough to fit by my bed and that was made for heavier babies.

I ordered the Graco Travel Lite Crib online and loved the fact that it had stages depending on the babies weight. Once I received it I was happy to see how easy it was to put it together and that it was the perfect size to fit beside my bed.

Stage 1 is for babies up to 15lbs and Stage 2 is for up to 20lbs, then you can just remove the hanging bassinet and you are left with the crib that looks just like a playpen. Right now we are still in Stage 2 but I have a feeling we will be removing the bassinet part soon so he can use it in the lowest setting. In the lowest setting it is recommended for use up to 30lbs. The crib also comes with a very neat travel bag, I was impressed it doesn’t take a lot of space once you fold it up and I can see myself traveling with it if needed.

Something else I really like about it is the fact that it is super breathable. The sides are all soft to the touch mesh so it is a lot safer for him as the airflow is a lot better than with other bassinets. So far we are loving it and I am thankful that I get to keep my baby in our room with us for a little longer.

Thank you this add was very helpful. I have a really small house as we live in military quarters and want to keep the baby out of my daughters room as long as posable and yes am having a hard time finding a bassinet with higher weight limits. My two and a half year old is still under 30 pounds, so I do believe peanut will have a long ride in this travel lite:)

what a marvellous system. It’s fantastic that it is adjustable according to weight, I’ve used ones that sagged in the middle when baby was a bit bigger. I also think that a whole lot of thought went into this design, love the mesh sides too good airflow there. Ideal for the home or for travelling I’d say. 🙂

I love this Travel Lite Crib. It is ideal for baby and alters to accommodate his/her growth spurts and your own needs. I like the breathable mesh and the whole crib looks so comfortable. I kept our babies beside our bed for at least a year. I also liked to have him near me, especially since the youngest suffered from croup and, even with a vapourizor going, it was a more anxious time for me.

This is my second comment. This is such a special crib that I think it deserves another comment. I have never actually seen another one like it that ‘grows’ with your baby. I love the fact that you can fold it up and take it with you, if necessary. My eldest grandchild traveled with her parents and they took her play pen. She was a year old and fussed most of the night. This crib would have solved that problem. We all survived but they were all tired the next day.

Review: Graco Travel Lite Crib

Ideal newborn crib.

This is one of the most popular playards on Amazon, probably because it solves a problem most parents have – small bedrooms.

In fact our bedroom is pretty spacious, or so we thought when there were only two of us! But add a full-size cot and there’s no avoiding the tucked-in elbows. Regardless, a lot of parents will simply want to have a full-size wooden cot, or will inherit one, which will work perfectly in baby’s nursery. But for the first few nervous months when you want baby beside your bed for night feeds, the full-size cot will make a serious dent in your elbow room.

Another disadvantage with the full-size cot in your bedroom is that it will be too big to fit through your doorway, so you will have to disassemble it when moving it to the nursery. And unfortunately you can’t push-button collapse a wooden cot.

Easy napping

An unexpected bonus was the bassinet which sits on top of the crib. This was so handy for laying baby down for naps rather than having to reach down in to the bottom of the cot. Our little girl weighed a whopping 9lbs at birth and started piling on the pounds almost immediately so it was a real lifesaver for my back being able to place her safely at this higher level for naps.

To be honest though, all of my kids hated to be confined in a small area like this, so I never got much use out of the Travel Lite for this purpose. Again, it will depend on your own child – apparently there are more docile children out there who will happily spend hours in their playard flicking through books or banging drums or whatever.

However, whether you actually use it for long periods of playing or not, it is always handy to have a secure area like this to place your baby/toddler in when the phone rings or someone comes to the door – even if you only use it for 2 minutes here and there, it can be very valuable.

Good traveller

It’s not an instant set-up and break-down like a pop-up cot but it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Collapsing is more time-consuming than setting up. For this, you press a push button on the top bar, then fold the whole thing together pushing on the side metal bits. The feet and wheels fold in automatically, then once it’s in a neat bundle you wrap the mattress pad around it and the whole thing slips in to a carry bag. My best time was 6 minutes 25 seconds and I’m not the most co-ordinated.

Recommended for:

Baby’s first crib that is small enough to fit beside your bed and that will also double as a travel cot. The Graco Travel Lite really ticked both of these boxes for us. The smaller dimensions, the wheels, the high level newborn bassinet and the canopy to shield baby from light and noise made the early months with baby in our bedroom a lot more manageable. It was also fairly handy to pack up and take with us for nights away from home.

We bought this on the recommendation of a friend, but after extensive research since, I still think for these requirements this is the best option on the market at a really good price.

Hello there. Thanks for the very informative and helpful review. Been considering this for baby no.2 due in July. I wanted to know, till aproximately what age can you use the bassinet? I read somewhere else that it can be used upto 10months at least. For my first baby, I had the regular round bassinet with frills etc, and he was a big baby and he outgrew it by 6 months. And then I had to invest in a wooden crib. I just feel it would be too bulky for the early stages. I dont realy want the regular playard as well, so I finally decided to get this one. And I’ve been confused again over it. Can you help me out pls ?

Hi Jay, sorry for the delay getting back.

The manufacturer recommends use of the bassinet up to 15lbs weight, after that you can place baby on the lower level – it can handle the extra weight and is also safer for your more active older baby. I cant imagine any bassinet being used up to 10 months.. some babies can walk at that stage! If you wanted to go for a bassinet with extra mileage you could try this one: Graco Travel Lite Crib with Stages. Its sturdier and also can be placed lower in the cot so you’ll get a month or two extra out of it hopefully. Though as always, everything depends on your baby!

Yup I had the cute frilly Moses basket too on baby No 1, got it as a present, but boy is it hard on your back! Have you got the frame thingy for it? I didn’t have that, it would have made all the difference.

My advice.. if you already have the wooden cot and the regular moses basket, why not just invest in the frame for the basket and you’re set.

hi, this crib looks great but was just wondering if you had any experience with the snuzpod bedside crib? it’s a bit sturdier so doesn’t look as easily portable as the graco, but it has a rocking motion which could be useful. what do you think?

Hi Siobhan, no not familiar with that one. Did a quick search, sounds good! Definitely the rocking motion could be useful, and I love the zip-down mesh side, very handy for breastfeeding. Doesn’t look like it would work for travel though, and maybe wouldn’t last as long as the Graco, but certainly ticks the boxes for a short-term newborn crib. Like all the cribs I review, there’s no definite winners and losers, just depends on what boxes you need ticking. Best of luck! x

MOSTLY Love this, you can bring it anywhere. Compared to full sized options it is super light. I thought it would be difficult to assemble but it wasn't. I thought the bassinet would be way more flimsy than it was, but once assembled it is sturdy enough. However... As other reviewers mention, there are not really any sheet options for the mattress. Furthermore, there aren't any acceptable cleaning options for the mattress. It says wipe clean... Which would be fine in a perfect world. But babies puke, sometimes diaper blowouts happen, etc. So when your baby pukes in there and you wipe the residue off of the surface, know you will have milk/formula seeping into the foam to rot and stink. And just make sure the diaper is done up right, because if your babysitter doesn't do it well and there is a blowout, you have to live with any absorbed juice odors for the rest of the useful life of the product. Grako, this could be solved by having a zipper on the mattress so you can disassemble and clean properly.

This is the perfect travel size and great for small spaces. I love that you can use it from a bassinet and into the toddler stage. It is a great product!

This isn. the perfect size for an infant. the footprint of the crib itself makes it easy to be placed anywhere. fits through doorways with ease. I operate a daycare and the quality can't be beat. I have another one and it is going on 6 years and it is still like new.

When it's packed, it's the same size as a packed pack-n-play. When this one is assembled, it's a smaller mattress and taller than a pack-n-play. Same kind of mattress. The stage 1 and 2 bassinet is made of material at the short ends (head and toe) that isn't breathable. I tried breathing through it and can't. Only the sides are mesh. As far as I can tell, a pack-n-play is better. I'm going to return it. I don't know why this even is manufactured.

My husband and I have a 5th wheel travel trailer, and with our new baby, space is a premium. On our first two trips we took our regular size pack n play, and it took up so much room and we were always having to dismantle. I bought this for a roadtrip to see my grandparents and it’s AMAZING! It’s slim size allows us to leave the pack n play assembled even when our slides are in going down the road! If you’re looking for a crib with a small footprint this is it!!!

I loved using this in place of a typical bassinet. My room is small and this fit in very easily in a corner. Baby was comfortable. It was easy to put together and collapse when we moved baby to his own room. Overall, This is a grace product that I recommend for new parents.

Graco Travel Lite Crib with Stages

I have a question for mom and soon to be moms about the Graco Travel Lite Crib with Stages.

first of all, I can't seem to figure out, does it come with a mattress already?

and what sheets/bedding do you use with it?

I am so confused and I can't find info online!

its a smaller pack n play, its more like a bassinet sized. yes it comes with a thin mattress pad thing like all the pack n plays do.

if you need more padding (theyre hard) i bought a 1 inch memory foam mattress for a twin sized bed and cut it to size. works for us :)

i would sugguest a regular pack n play with a bassinet insert instead.

k katiecont Posted 01-17-14 I know this doesn't answer your questions but a couple things to note: 1- the travel lite has 2 and 3 stage options- make sure you get the one that you want based on stages and not necessarily the pattern 2- a travel lite fits through a doorway and a regular pack and play does not Advertisement | page continues below

j jrp2006 Posted 01-21-14 I used one with all three of my kiddos and am planning on using it for baby number four. Mattress is fine that comes with it. Only thing that I use with it are some very thin waterproof BRU lap pads that are bassinet sized. One on the mattress helps during those accident situations. I also use halo sacks. These are great for hotels and visiting family or for bringing baby outside to do yard work. We gave our old one to babysitter and bought another one for us.

It's worth seeing in store before purchasing. I was surprised at how teeny the travel-lite crib is. I'm getting a big one for my house and I will just rent if we travel.

I love these! I've been using one of 7 years and the other for 5 years. I do not have the 'stages' one, I really prefer the original ones. Much better canopy and like the set-up better.
