Tours begin with a 15 – 20 minute bus ride from The Henry Ford to the Ford Rouge Factory Tour Visitor Center. Due to road construction, buses may experience intermittent delays. See Non-Production Dates below.)

Active Assembly Information

Ford Rouge Factory Tour is an experience housed within Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Truck Plant in partnership with The Henry Ford and the United Auto Workers union.

The Dearborn Truck Plant is a real working factory. As a result, there are many factors that can cause inconsistent active assembly hours. This includes vehicle demand, supply shortages, factory floor renovations and construction, and staffing considerations. The Dearborn Truck Plant does not build vehicles during daily breaks, shift changes, holidays and weekends.

Please note that The Henry Ford cannot control Ford Motor Company’s production schedule and cannot guarantee that guests will see the assembly line in full operation during their visit. The Henry Ford is also not able to refund tickets in the event that vehicles are not being actively assembled.

Regardless of whether vehicles are being actively assembled, guests will be able to view the Dearborn Truck Plant’s final assembly area via a fully accessible suspended walkway at all times. The final assembly area is only one part of Ford Rouge Factory Tour’s 5-part experience. All other parts of the tour remain unaffected.

The Dearborn Truck Plant will not be in active assembly during these dates in 2023, following the plant’s holiday and maintenance schedule. The dates include but aren’t limited to:

• September 2 – 4
• November 11
• November 23 – 26
• December 24, 2023 - January 7, 2024

In addition, active assembly is not available on Saturdays, effective August 1, 2023.

THE PORTUGUESE COLONIES

Due to its location as the most western European country, Portugal had a key role in the European Age of Discovery and Exploration. Led by Prince Henry the Navigator, Portugal searched for a route to Asia by sailing south around Africa in the 15th century. During the process, the Portuguese found out a lot about navigation and about the geography of the Atlantic Ocean.

For thousands of years, humans left various proofs by their surroundings in different forms: cave paintings, stone tablets, religious or printed maps, until the multi-layered digital maps from nowadays.

Passing through the ancient Babylon, the Renaissance and the Age of Exploration, and getting to the era of the modern cartography, mapping history is fascinating in each period.

WHO WAS PRINCE HENRY THE NAVIGATOR?

Henry was born in 1394 in Portu, Portugal, and he was the 3rd surviving son of King John (João) I with Queen Philippa. He is better known as Henry the Navigator . He earned his title although he hasn´t been on many expeditions himself, but he helped with the design of new ships, maps, and some navigational instruments.

The Portuguese explorer Prince Henry the Navigator was the first European who explored Africa. Before his time, the European exploration of Africa was limited, because there was not a focus of the trip.

With the support of his father and his older brothers, he helped in the development of the technology needed to find a way on the open ocean. Due to his help, the explorers more easily found the Atlantic Islands, they explored the west coast of Africa, and later searched for a southeastern passage to India.

Henry was neither a sailor nor a navigator, but he sponsored the exploration along the west coast of Africa. Under Henry´s command, the Portuguese founded this country’s first colonies and they visited some regions that were previously unknown to the Europeans.

Henry is the originator of the Age of Discovery

His goal was to unite Christians all around the globe under his banner . To do this, he wanted to join forces with King Prester John, who supposedly lived somewhere in Central America.

WHAT DID PRINCE HENRY THE NAVIGATOR DO?

Henry backed and arranged many expeditions because he wanted to satisfy his curiosity, to grow the territory and abundance of Portugal, and also to enlarge Christianity.

Prince Henry is also remembered for two important contributions in the history of Portugal. The fists one is that around the year 1418, he inaugurated the first school for oceanic navigation . Here students had the opportunity to learn about map-making, astrology, scientific practices, and other skills that would help them in their journey down the west coast of Africa.

The other one was the founding of the Transatlantic slave trade . Two of his captains, Antam Gonclaves and Nuno Tristao, had ventured to reach Cape Bianco, what is now Tunisia. These two men were the first Europeans to buy African enslaved and brought them to Europe. In the following years the slave trade grew in size, influence, and power.

WHERE DID PRINCE HENRY THE NAVIGATOR EXPLORE?

Prince Henry funded some explorations to sail the High Seas and cruise the West African coast. By building up a massive body of maritime know-how, Henry oversaw the first stages of a process that turned Portugal into a global empire.

The sailors that were under Henry’s command discovered the islands of Cape Verde, the Azores, and Madeira. The last one has served Portugal to this day and provided the Portuguese national football team with Cristiano Ronaldo .

Perhaps one of the most important things to mention is that they documented the trade winds for the North Atlantic, which would become a vital piece for all future European exploration.

PRINCE HENRY THE NAVIGATOR´S LEGACY

The legacy Henry left to the mankind is quite complex. He managed to open trade and to connect various people and cultures. From the historical point of view, the colonization he began has caused a loss of land, resources, life, religion and autonomy for the indigenous people that have been colonized. On the other hand, colonies have enriched the colonizers with little consideration to the people that were living there.

Prince Henry the Navigator would be remembered as the founding father of Portugal’s maritime empire , and also for exploitation and slavery.

The Bellevue, Ohio driver scored his second win of speedweek Friday at the grand re-opening of Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio in front of a huge crowd there to celebrate the return of racing after sitting idle for eight years.

Going into the ninth and final night of Ohio Sprint Speedweek, Henry, who is only one of two drivers – the other being Greg Wilson – to have made all seven contested speedweek A-mains during, has a commanding lead in his bid to become the speedweek champion. Henry opened speedweek with a win at Attica Raceway Park where he is the defending track champion. He followed with a third place finish at Waynesfield Motorsports Park on Sunday before a heat race incident which placed him at the rear of the field for the feature Monday at Wayne County Speedway where he finished 17 th . Henry roared back Tuesday with a third place run at Hilltop Speedway followed by a fifth place finish at Sharon Speedway Wednesday and a second place showing Thursday at Muskingum County Speedway Thursday.

Friday at Millstream, Scotty Thiel grabbed the early lead in the 30-lap feature with Henry driving from fourth to second on the opening lap. Henry drove under Thiel for the lead on lap nine just as a caution flew for debris. Henry built up a substantial lead while the battle for second saw Zane DeVault get around Thiel on lap 12. A debris caution on lap 20 wiped out Henry’s lead, but he executed a perfect restart to once again drive away. With five laps to go Henry held a 2.1 second lead over DeVault with ninth starter Skylar Gee moving into third after a spirited battle with Thiel and Cale Thomas. A yellow flag on the final lap set up a shootout but Henry once again nailed his restart and drove to the victory, his fourth overall win of 2024. DeVault, Gee, Thiel and 12 th  starter Joel Myers Jr. rounded out the top five.

“I’m just so proud of my guys, Zack, Jeff, Gary, Chris and Chad, the way they’ve turned this season around means a lot. It truly is a team effort. To win in front of that big of a crowd is so cool. I wanted to just be patient and make sure we got good points, but I always want to win too. Years ago when the All Stars came here I was leading one and got taken out by another guy and lost it. This is the type of race track we kind of struggled at this week. I knew it was important to get out front and every one of those cautions was a big deal to keep us in clean air. It was really hard to see in traffic,” said Henry beside his Premier Planning Service, Jeff Ward Demolition, Ohio Logistics, Primal Tee Shop, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, FK Rod Ends, Griff’s Engines backed #33W.

The 42 nd  Annual Ohio Sprint Speedway concludes Saturday, June 15 at Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio with a $10,000 to win feature event!

Walking audio tour highlights Brooklyn's abolitionist history

Nestled at the corner of Remsen and Clinton streets in Brooklyn Heights stands an unassuming apartment building with a storied past.

Long before its construction, the site was home to the Hamilton Club, later renamed the Remsen House by its owner, a wealthy Black businesswoman and abolitionist named Elizabeth Gloucester.

“more than a brook: brooklyn abolitionist heritage walk” is a three-part audio experience commissioned by the new york city landmarks preservation commission the walking tour travels through three brooklyn historic districts with a heavy concentration of sites connected to abolitionist history and the underground railroad the tour includes plymouth church, where people would travel from all over to hear abolitionist minister henry ward beecher.

"Her story was too important to not include, because she is a wealthy Black woman at the end of the 1800s who is able to be connected to people like Frederick Douglass and John Brown, and doing it at a time when she didn't even have suffrage," said Kamau Ware, founder of Black Gotham Experience.

Gloucester's story is just one of many highlighted in "More Than A Brook: Brooklyn Abolitionist Heritage Walk," a three-part audio experience commissioned by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

The walking tour travels through three Brooklyn historic districts with a heavy concentration of sites connected to abolitionist history and the Underground Railroad.

"As we think about this neighborhood and this section of Brooklyn being a place where there were white and Black abolitionists, where there were freedom seekers who were escaping slavery, we also know that churches were a big part of that fight," said Sarah Carroll, chair and commissioner of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

The tour includes Plymouth Church, where people would travel from all over to hear abolitionist minister Henry Ward Beecher. Abraham Lincoln famously attended services there too. There are nearly 20 stops on the three-hour tour from the waterfront into the neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

"It's important to be open to work with a range of parties the same way abolition happened in New York. People had different perspectives and positions, but they had a common goal, and now I think the common goal is to make sure people don't come to New York City and think that it somehow was separate from slavery in the North, when New York City's sole purpose was to be part of the slave trade," said Ware, who co-created the experience.
