Meraviglia Jan. 22nd - Feb. 2nd, 2023 My Thoughts

We were on the Meraviglia from Jan. 22 until Feb. 3, 2023.  Not doing a full blown review but will give you my thoughts about the cruise. I am sure I will leave something out by accident. If you have any questions, just ask.

Just a bit about us. We have been on 12 MSC cruises from Florida. Divina, Seaside, Seashore and now the Mera. We are in our 60’s and 70’s and have over 50 cruises under our belts on NCL, Carnival, Princess, Celebrity and MSC.

Read a lot of reviews and you tube videos about the Meraviglia before we sailed. We always take reviews with a grain of salt and glad we did with this one.  So many bad reviews out there about her. Was it a perfect cruise? No. But truthfully, I have never been on a perfect cruise. Fortunately, I do not harp on only the bad things that happen as some people do in their reviews.

Our cruise was booked as one but it was a 7 and 4 day cruise. The 7 day cruise had 4152 people and the 4 day had 4022 people.

First off, boarding.  We arrived at Port Canaveral at 12:01pm. Took the escalator. Once inside we turned to the right where there is the Diamond Boarding line. From the time we got off of the shuttle until the time we entered the ship it was a total of a 36 minute wait. No lines worth talking about.

As most know, only the buffet is open on embarkation day. We went to the buffet and had an enjoyable lunch. Lines, if any, were short. Had a great variety of food also.

We ate at the buffet several times for lunch during the cruise and there was always a variety of food. I was worried since I had read that there was nothing to eat. Not sure what those people wanted but there were many different dishes, some of which were the following: cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken tenders, all kinds of chicken dishes (roasted, merengue chicken, teriyaki, etc), veal dishes, lamb curry, fajitas, fish (grouper, snapper, swai, and tilapia), salads (we loved the caesar salad and they had fresh anchovies which made it better).

Always something good at the carving station, roast, pork, salmon which was cooked in foil and delicious, fresh fruits, desserts and of course pizza. I actually wish they had a different variety of pizza.  They had Pepperoni, a White Sauce Pizza and a Margherita Pizza which was a pizza with just red sauce.  The pizza was really lacking on this cruise.

I have seen several complaints about nothing to drink in the buffet on the Mera so I checked it out myself everyday.  Everyday, all day long, there were a variety of juices in the buffet. Each station had different drinks. For example, OJ, Pineapple, Kiwi Strawberry, Apple, Cranberry, for Breakfast.  For lunch there was juices and also tea, lemonade and fruit punch. I am not sure if the people would just go to one station and it would be out or what but there are plenty of things to drink and a wide variety.

Since I am talking about food I will discuss the Main Dining Room. The food in the MDR on this cruise was the best of any food on any cruise that we have ever been on.  It was absolutely delicious. We ate in the MDR for dinner every night. The lobster tails were large as in around 7 to 8 ounces and very sweet. Not the tiny ones that I have had on Princess or Carnival.  The only complaint we had about the MDR food was the last night they had Veal Chops.  It was not Veal chops. It was Veal Shank and it was really bad. I do not recommend that one. Not sure why they called it a chop when it was definitely a shank.

The first 7 days the assistant was great and did most of the work, very snappy and everything ran perfect.  Our waiter was mediocre. He wasn’t bad the first week but the last 4 day cruise he had a new assistant and was horrible. He was mad because she was new and training and he let it show. Very bad service those 4 days. Every night he got worse about forgetting things, acting annoyed, etc. Did it ruin our cruise? Not in the least.

We had the Easy Plus Drink Package and never had a problem getting a drink until the last day of the cruise when we left Ocean Cay at 12pm.  The bars were packed. Lines were long and it took forever to get a drink.  That was the only time we had to wait for a drink.  The pub had several beers on tap and only ran out the last couple of days on the 4 day cruise. Not sure why they ran out of Blue Moon on tap when we had just been in port but there were a lot more drinkers on the 4 day cruise.

We are Diamond with MSC, got it the easy way back when matching to NCL. We now have over 25,000 points so have done our time with them to have received Diamond status on our own.  I have to agree the loyalty rewards have gone way down.  Even though we booked as one cruise, we did receive 2 bottles of Prosecco and 2 plates of Macaroons.  The chocolate ship is no longer a gift. We received one chocolate bar per cabin. That’s right, not per person but per cabin. No loyalty gift at all. There was a Diamond Party and a Welcome Back party on the 7 day cruise but we did not receive an invitation to it so did not find out until after. We received no notice of Specialty Dining for Diamond in our cabin but knew just to make a reservation.

We chose Butchers Cut as our Diamond Dinner. It was delicious but I ate wayyyyyyy too much! I decided to order the Seafood Trio (can’t remember the exact name right now) for my appetizer and let me tell you, it was awesome! I was able to get it for ½ price which was $23 . I do believe a gratuity was added to that $23. That app was more than enough for my entire meal. It contained 1 Maine Lobster, 1 King Crab leg, 2 large Sea Scallops, 3 Giant Prawns, 2 Raw Oysters, about 30 to 40 small Little Neck Clams and a dozen mussels. Worth every penny!  We both ordered Lamb Chops and they were cooked to perfection. No complaints with Butchers Cut at all!!!

Our cabin steward had to be one of the worlds worst! Not sure if he was new or what but it took him 6 days before he got it right. When we got on the ship we had no wash clothes, left steward a note and received them that evening when he turned down the bed. Every day he would forget the wash clothes, or something. For 5 days I had to track him down. That got old real fast.  No top sheet on the bed but he did put one on the second evening. Everytime I asked why no wash clothes he would state the washing machine broke down, hmmm really?? Haha not.  I finally threatened to remove my tips (which I would never do but he didn’t know that) and he never messed up again.  I just wish he would have dusted, the cabin was the dustiest I have ever seen!  I guess I was spoiled by our last cabin steward on the Seashore last March. He was great.

Entertainment was very good.  We loved the shows in the Broadway Theater. We booked both Carousel shows which are $12pp in advance. We did not like either of those shows and wish we had saved our money.  The Houdini show was cancelled the first week and they refused to give us our money back because we had prepaid. Told us to contact customer service when we get home. Would not even provide proof it was cancelled.  We all know how well CS on land is so that was not working for me.  We were able to book it on the 4 day cruise.  Like I said, we did not like those shows and would never book them again.

Always something going on! We never had a problem finding a band or something to do. Whether it be Chris in the pub, Candice in the TV Studio and Bar, the bands in the Meraviglia Bar or entertainer in the lobby. There was also a Jazz trio in the Sky Lounge in the evenings. Went once but not into Jazz.

The Entertainment staff was great. Loved the entertainment in the Promenade. Lots of entertainment by the pool.  Never had a problem finding something to do.  Chris is the Cruise Director on the Mera right now. I believe from UK and he is an illusionist.

Ocean Cay, what can I say. Best island ever! We were on the second cruise ship to go there and boy has it changed. All the foliage is beautiful now. Love this island. Loved the overnight stay there especially. Happy we made it both times. We have been scheduled to go 7 times but only made it 5 times. The lines for the buffet was long but it only took us 21 minutes from the end to get all the way through it. I timed it just to make sure.  I guess people are looking at the line and saying it will take forever. No, not really at all. The food was good picnic food. Lots of salads. Jerk chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, fish (grouper, I asked), baked beans, Mexican corn, etc.

Overall, loved the Meraviglia and would sail her again in a heartbeat but I will not do another cruise where there is a 7 and a 4 day. That is just too short. The people on the 4 day cruise was mostly in their 20’s and 30’s and on our cruise they were quite rude. It was as if they were in a hurry and it was “All about me”. Never seen such rudeness.

Never done a review but had to put my thoughts out there due to only reading negative stuff about the Meraviglia.  If you don’t let the little stuff annoy you then you will have a great time. You can either harp on the bad things or move on and enjoy the good things.

I knew I would forget something! Dress code in the MDR.  It is come as you are! There was everything from super short shorts to swim trunks. First cruise I have ever been on that it was wear whatever.

Didn't bother me but does it hurt to put something on other than swim trunks for a sit down dinner?

Enjoyed your cruise.  Great to hear a positive review.  Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it and only had minor issues. Your experience was similar to mine on the Divina last week. Not perfect, but nothing worth dwelling on.

I still am at a loss for why so many people do not care for the food on MSC (and other lines) and say there was nothing to eat, and/or they had the same thing every day. Unless they only went to the one same section each day, there was always plenty of variety. I suspect it is more that they are fairly picky and are unwilling to try something new or different, more than the fact that there was literally the same foods every day.

I agree. There was a ton of variety.  Like I said, what are those people expecting? Do they eat 50 different things for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday???

Have fun! We actually love the layout of the ship. Divina was always our favorite but we think we like the Mera better now.

Nice review. Looking at booking Mera out of NY to Bermuda end of Summer.

Was the (hot) food in the buffet on your cruise hot? That was one reason why we stopped eating at the buffet on Divina last month. The food was barely warm. I couldn’t understand why when there were so many people eating there.  We limited our choices to the salad and fruit.

Yes, it was hot. I hate cold buffet food. Won't eat it. Never a problem with that.

That’s so good to hear! I’m the same I like my food hot.

I always worried that the food wasn’t being held at the correct temperature on our cruise. Especially the aft buffet because it’s not as busy.

I was a food safety instructor, I won't eat cold buffet food, sorta freaks me out  🤪

Thanks for the honest and very fair review...

I think we must have had the same room steward on our Mera cruise last year.

Took two days for him to put on a top sheet Lovey asked for,  and when I asked him for a sharps container (am diabetic), he honestly had no idea what I was asking for, had to get the steward from down the hall to explain it to him, but it all worked out.

Thanks for your review - here are my follow up questions:

  • How was the Cruise Director?
  • Was there a different show each evening?
  • How as debarkation?
  • Were there any "theme" nights and/or game shows similar to other cruise lines?
  • What were some of the activities in the evening on the private island?
  • Is it a tender or dock for the private island?

1. We only had the current Cruise Director the last 4 days of the cruise.  He seemed very outgoing and friendly. Unlike other MSC cruise director's you could see him around the ship often. He is also an Illusionist and put on a show in the Main Theater at 2:45pm one day.

2. Yes, there was a different "event" in the main theater each evening. Not always a broadway production. One night there was an Entertainment Staff Talent Show (hated it, not good at all) and another night there was a fly on Comedian which I had never seen on MSC.  I do believe the rest of the nights were shows. They also have a lot of fun activities in the Promenade.

3. Debarkation was very easy. First there is walk off, carry own luggage. Next was Airport Transfers through MSC and then Diamond. We are Diamond and was walking off the ship by 9am. Seemed like half the people used walkoff. Then come to find out, a lot of the walk offs did not have to luggage so had to wait for it in baggage claims.

4. There was White Night, Italian Night, Caribbean Night, Gala Night, Flower Power (Disco) that I can remember

5. There is a lighthouse show which only lasts about 10 minutes. They have several fire rings set up on lighthouse beach and have  a beach party with music. They also have excursions at night.

6. No tender. The island has a dock. You can walk on and off the ship all day long.

Thanks for the review, we are doing the same 11 day in 2 weeks. Love your attitude, some of the negatives you listed, I have seen others say never again, it ruined my cruise, lol.

Like you we matched to Diamond from NCL. For embarkation, do you just show up at your scheduled time and find the Diamond line or can you show up anytime and go to the diamond line?

For debarkation, did you carry your own luggage off or can diamonds put it out the night before and still get priority debarkation?

Did you have any trouble getting show reservations? Or Butcher Cut reservation?

Sounds familair.

We were on the Meraviglia last October. Both carousel shows were cancelled and because we had prepaid they would not give us a refund or onboard credit. Like you we were told to contact customer service when we got home.

I did and after many emails and calls stating that they were waiting for authourization from head office (not sure why they need authorization, they cancelled the shows). A couple months later I had to file a credit card dispute to get the funds back. I just received notice from the credit card that my dispute was valid and the funds were returned.

The cruise was otherwise excellent but this poor customer service was very discouraging.

Very nice and helpful review, but this is a Marinara pizza, a Margherita has mozzarella cheese added. And by the way these two are the classical Italian selection to choose from, everything more is already considered a big variety 😉

Yes, I agree but they had the name plate for a Margherita pizza.  Everyone kept asking them where is the basil??? the tomatoes???  🤣

You can actually show up at any time. Once you get to the top of the escalator and go inside the doors, go to the right. There will be a sign for Diamond.

No, we put our luggage out the night before. We received a note stating to meet up at 8am in the Broadway Theater.  We were #44. Transfers were #43. At 7:30 they came in the theater and told us all the luggage was out and we could go out and get in line. Now the line was long but the signs said enter here so we did not have to go to the back of the line.

No problem getting reservations. Go to the kiosk or even do the shows on your app as soon as you get on.  For Diamond meal go to Ocean Cay restaurant. You will make your reservations there.  I suggest going as soon as you get on the ship.

Genoa cruise port

Region Mediterranean - Black Sea

Local Time 2024-06-11 13:17

Port Genoa cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Genoa, Milan, Italy Riviera. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Port Genoa/Genova also serves as cruise port to Milano City and is located on Ligurian Sea (Western Mediterranean). Genova City is the capital of Liguria (coastal region in northwestern Italy) also known as the "Italian Riviera".

Genoa is approx 145 km (90 mi) from Milano and approx 185 km (115 mi) from Cannes France (direction northeast). The city has population around 600,000 (metro over 1,5 million) and is famous as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus (1451-1506).

Port Genova (locode ITGOA) is currently ranked Mediterranean's second-largest seaport (after Marseille France ).

In Genova are registered all vessels of the cruise shipping companies (both Carnival Corporation -owned subsidiaries) Costa and AIDA , as Italy is the preferable flag-state for Costa Group (their managing company).

Fincantieri (one of the world's largest shipbuilding companies ) owns the merchant shipbuilding yards Monfalcone , Marghera ( Venice ), Sestri Ponente (Genoa), Ancona , Castellammare di Stabia (near Naples ) and Palermo (Sicily) . The company also owns the naval shipyards Riva Trigoso (Genoa) and Muggiano ( La Spezia ).

Genova port's main ferry shipping destinations in Mediterranean Sea (both cargo and passengers) are Sicily Island (Italy), Sardinia Island (Italy), Corsica Island (France), Barcelona (Spain) and also Canary Islands (Spain). Genova is Italy's busiest cargo ship port by cargo tonnage. The port is also famous with its dismantling (shipbreaking) station where the ominous Costa Concordia ship wreckage was dismantled. The port is also one of the country's still profiting shipbuilding yards serving the yacht construction market, yacht and boat maintenance, navy shipyards.

Besides its containership and passenger (ferry and cruise) terminals, shipyards and various ship handling facilities, Genoa port also has several sailboat and yacht marinas. The list of the marinas includes - Exhibition Centre (Fiera di Genova, capacity 305 berths), Duca degli Abruzzi (capacity 350 berths), Molo Vecchio (old harbor, capacity 160 berths, max LOA length 150 m), Porto Antico (capacity 280 berths), Genova Aeroporto (for mega yachts, capacity 500 berths, max LOA length 90 m) and Fascia di Rispetto di Pra (capacity 1000 berths).

On January 31, 2019, Italian police announced the seizure of 2+ tons of pure cocaine (from Colombia) - Italy's largest drug bust since 1993. The drugs (street value ~EUR 500 million / ~USD 574M) were discovered in a TEU-container and packed into 60 bags. The unit was imported from South America and destined for Barcelona. The drugs belonged to several drug-trafficking organizations part of "Gulf Clan" (accounting for ~70% of Colombia's total cocaine export). Reportedly, the police replaced total 1801 packets of cocaine with salt, then sent the cargo on its way in a ploy to hold the drug runners. A 59-year-old Spanish man was arrested in Barcelona when he tried to collect the shipment.

Genoa cruise port

On March 23, 2013, here was christened MSC Preziosa . In the period April 29 - May 17, the Grand Celebration ship (operated by Iberocruceros, owned by Costa Group) was docked in Genoa for planned refurbishment and maintenance. Dry-dock works were performed at the shipyard San Giorgio del Porto - a major shipyard for repairs and refitting.

On November 14, 2013, the company Costa Crociere SpA announced its plans to open in late spring 2014 new offices in Genoa. The new office space is for about 190 employees. It is located on the 1st floor of the Carmonte office building (Piazza Piccapietra), neighboring with the company's Palazzo Costa headquarters. Genoa has been the company's hometown since the 1950s. The new offices became workplace for Costa employees that previously worked at Via De Marini and handled all the commercial and tour operations for Costa cruise passengers.

On June 30, 2014, the Italian Cabinet authorized the transportation (towing) of the salvaged Costa Concordia . The wreckage was towed from Giglio Island (the ship's sinking accident site) to Genoa for dismantling and recycling, The Concordia ship’s last voyage was provided by the salvage company Titan Micoperi. On July 23, 2014, at ~11 am started the towing of the wreckage towards Genoa. The ship moved at an avrg speed of 2,3 mph (3,7 kph) arriving in Genoa 4 days later (on July 27).

On November 7, 2014, here was christened the Costa Diadema . The new ship left Trieste on November 1. The maiden voyage to Genoa also visited Dubrovnik (Croatia), Corfù (Greece), Malta and Naples . The ship's inaugural cruise departed from Savona (on Nov 8).

In 2016, the port reported a record year with handled over 1 million cruise tourists. In 2016, Stazioni Marittime cruise terminals were upgraded with new equipment, including new gangways at Ponte Doria. The investment was ~EUR 2,2 million.

Since 2018, Port Genoa provides shore-power capabilities. The shore-to-ship electrical power suply technology (by Nidec Corporation, Japan) enables docked vessels to receive electricity from the city's power grid. From the berth, vessels can plug-in directly to the grid which allows full onboard operations without using the diesel engines/generators. The Japanese company has installed such systems in the USA ports Los Angeles CA , San Francisco CA , Juneau AK , as well as in other European ports ( Goteborg Sweden , Travemunde Germany , Livorno Italy ).

On July 7, 2018, during Costa Cruises' 70th-anniversary celebrations in Genoa (Costa Zena Festival) was constructed a huge waterslide (length 340 m/1115 ft) designed to break Guinness World Record for "longest slid in 1 hour". The slide was installed on Via XX Settembre street and helped to establish the world's new record of 775 km (481,6 mi) sliding in 1 hour. Another world record broken was for longest bunting string - 2070 maritime signal flags were connected into 2 km long line along the festival's areas. At Old Port and Piazza Caricamento were performed live 60 performers (street musicians, dancers, artists, acrobats), 29 singers, DJs, comedians. Piazza de Ferrari had for kids games, workshops and parties with mascots. The evening concert (at 8.30 pm) was on Radio 105 stage (opposite Piazza delle Feste) and included performances by popular Italian singers and bands.

For season 2019, the cruise port expects 30% increase in passengers (to 1,3 million), most of whom (around 750,000) embarking (homeport).

In July-August 2023 was completed the Cesare Imperiale Viaduct's retrofitting project. The waterfront promenade is in the Stazioni Marittime Terminal's area. The 300-m/ 980-ft long viaduct/road bridge (connecting Ponte dei Mille with Ponte Andrea Doria) is annually used by 1+ million cruise tourists.

Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Andrea Doria cruise terminals (Genoa)

Port Genoa's first cruise terminal is Ponte dei Mille (1930-opened). The facility was upgraded in 1991 and used to be the most advanced passenger terminal regarding technologies. It has capacity to handle 3x vessels simultaneously. The second cruise terminal (Ponte Andrea Doria) can berth 2x liners at a time.

The Maritime Station is close to downtown (old town), but in an industrial area, so it is better to use a taxi. In 2016, Stazioni Marittime's investments were EUR 2,2 million. Part of the new equipment were Ponte Doria Terminal's new gangways.

In July 2022 were annou nced plans to equip Stazioni Marittime's terminals with an additional pier (alongside Ponte Dei Mille West) with capacity to berth the world's biggest passenger liners (LOA length 330 m / 1083 ft)).

The project followed recent dredging works (for deepening the waterway) and included the existing quay's extension (from 290 to 380 m / 1247 ft), construction of a new boarding terrace and terminal building, and building a new quay line (at Calata Santa Limbania) alongside the former grain silos Hennebique (200 m long building). The quay (to be enhanced by 12 m in width) will serve the adjacent cruise terminal and will also provide mooring for leisure boats during no-ship days.

(NEW) Genoa Ponte Parodi cruise terminal

Ponte Parodi terminal is currently under construction. Its quay was once used for grain traffic (silos).

The Ponte Parodi cruise terminal project involves redesigning a 23000 m2 (247600 ft2) waterfront area part of the former industrial area named Ponte Parodi.

The new pier complex was designed by De Carlo and features a series of multi-functional spaces to be used for exhibitions and various commercial purposes on the pier. These buildings are enclosed in large glass surfaces and adjacent to a restaurant, cafes and pubs, a disco, gyms, swimming pools.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises' vessels offer the endless amenities and buffets of its competitors' megaships but maintain the service standard of smaller lines. Rates on Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries run less than $200 per person, and all-inclusive add-on packages are available.

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises targets more adult travelers (especially on longer voyages) than family-oriented lines like Royal Caribbean International, but at similar prices. Along with lodging and select dining, fares cover activities like cooking demonstrations and educational lectures.

Royal Caribbean International

With more than 25 cruise ships, Royal Caribbean is one of the largest lines sailing the ocean today. Having the ability to accommodate thousands of guests per ship allows the company to keep rates low. In fact, travelers may find itineraries in popular destinations throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, the Bahamas and the Pacific Coast for around $250 per person.

Holland America Line

Cruisers will find this premium cruise line to be a pretty good bargain, with four-day Caribbean sailings often starting at less than $300 per person, and short voyages along the Pacific Coast coming in around $100 per person. But cutting costs doesn't mean skimping on service; Holland America ships offer individualized attention, free room service and all-inclusive package options.

MSC Cruises

MSC offers sailings from North American ports like Miami, New York City and Orlando, Florida, though the majority of its voyages depart from international locales. Carnival specializes in budget-friendly fun, offering frequent, significant discounts on already low prices. In fact, itineraries for around $200 per person are the norm. Norwegian Cruise Line

With its popular, frequently running Free at Sea program, Norwegian offers travelers discounts on Wi-Fi, excursions, alcohol, airfare and more on top of its already low prices. Cunard Line

While you may not expect to find a more opulent line like Cunard on this list, the cruise provider has a surprising number of relatively reasonable fares for upcoming sailings. Travelers can fully enjoy the line's old-world elegance knowing that room service, onboard activities and most dining options are included in the base price.

Costa Cruises

A member of the Carnival family, Costa Cruises is primarily based in Europe. The fleet offers lower rates than its competitors, particularly for its Mediterranean itineraries (think: fares starting at less than $100 per person). ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE 2024-26 GUIDE

When it comes to planning the ultimate getaway, there are so many reasons why cruise vacations rank among the most popular travel options. First of all, they’re completely stress-free. On a cruise vacation, all the planning is taken care of by the cruise line — from the  destinations  you sail to and the  shore excursions  available at each port, to a full range of  entertainment  and activities happening onboard every day. If you’re not a planner, or if the only things you’re looking to focus on during your getaway is savoring great food, relaxing, and soaking up the sights, cruise vacations are the way to go. A cruise vacation is also a great option if you’re traveling with the whole family, especially when you opt for a Royal Caribbean cruise. All of the ships in this cruise line’s fleet offer family-friendly experiences for guests of all ages. Even little ones will find plenty of ways to play with spaces and activities designed for tots to tweens. One of the top reasons savvy travelers love cruising, though, is because of the incredible value it offers. With Royal Caribbean, your cruise fare includes access to most of the ship’s attractions, select dining venues and all of the entertainment onboard. If you want to make your  experience  even more all-inclusive, you can opt for  beverage  and  specialty dining  packages that cover drinks and dinner at some of the most exclusive restaurants in the fleet. On top of all that, the cruise line presents frequent limited-time offers and seasonal sales, making it easy to score big savings when booking your vacation.

The 10 Best Cruises for Teens in 2024

C ruises make the perfect family vacation, especially when traveling with teens. Teens can mix and mingle with others their age in teens-only clubs, play games, listen to music, or grab a pizza and watch a movie under the stars. If your tweens and teens need more action-packed fun to keep them entertained, some cruise ships act like floating amusement parks with zip lines, racetracks, roller coasters, ice skating rinks, laser tag, waterslides and more.

The following lines offer the best cruises for teens and tweens, along with their parents.

Raw HTML : GTS form Travel

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises offers plenty of family fun and activities for teens on its ships, including sports tournaments, waterslides and a family disco. On select ships, you'll also find the full-size MSC Formula Racer simulator, an interactive XD cinema, a virtual reality experience, zip lines and an arcade room. The Young Club programming by MSC Cruises offers daily activities for 12- to 14-year-old tweens, while teens 15 to 17 can participate in sports and dance competitions as well as video game tournaments at the Teen Club. Older kids can also participate in fun themed events, karaoke, piloting practice at the Drone Academy and flash mobs – and there's a teens-only disco.

On MSC Seascape , teens can stay busy in three new concept spaces. "Future" features a state-of-the-art technology area with the latest-generation consoles, VR and video screens for hours of entertainment. "Chill Out" is just as it sounds – a place to hang out, chat, and play foosball and pingpong. Meanwhile, "Music" is a dance club where kids can choose their own tunes and dance the night away with cool lighting and sound effects. If all that isn't enough, Robotron, the first of its kind at sea, is an amusement park-like ride that combines the thrill of a roller coaster with personalized music and lighting.

MSC World Europa boasts the largest and most engaging kids area in the fleet with an impressive 8,245 square feet of action-packed space. The new Teens Lab features an immersive area for teenagers with more than 20 of the latest consoles, seven VR stations and dozens of video games. Drone Academy 2.0 is a high-energy relay race for drones. There's even more onboard fun at Z Active, a sports program that offers basketball, football and zorb ball alongside two firsts for the line – pickleball and hoverboards. Teens can also take a spin on the bumper cars at the MSC Sportplex.

MSC Euribia – the line's newest ship, which set sail on its inaugural cruise in June 2023 – has a total of 7,500-plus square feet of space dedicated to kids ages 0 to 17. The new Teens Club Extra Space offers three different areas: the Young Club (ages 12 to 14), the Teens Club (15 to 17) and the Teens Lab (12 to 17). Some of the activities include those found on other MSC ships, such as Z Active, Drone Academy 2.0 and the MSC Dance Crew competition. Teens will also have access to new video games; pingpong; World Quest, an interactive game show based on trivia and geography; and Caravaggio, an immersive spy game show about an art heist.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line boasts a teens-only venue, Entourage, which caters to young adults 13 to 17 years old. This supervised space – available on 16 of the line's 19 ships – keeps teens busy in an adults-free lounge that's filled with video games, movies, music, arts and sports. Teen counselors on Norwegian Cruise Line plan activities and challenges to keep kids entertained throughout the cruise. A list of detailed activities is available on embarkation day so teens can plan out their schedule for the cruise.

Norwegian Prima , the first vessel in the Prima class, features many first-at-sea innovations perfect for entertaining families and energetic teens, including the three-level Prima Speedway. With cars reaching up to 30 miles per hour, this quarter-mile-long racetrack is one of the highest-rated attractions on Prima. Adventurous teens will also want to check out The Drop and The Rush. Billed as the fastest slides at sea, these chutes offer thrill-seekers a heart-pumping 10-story freefall plunge.

If that's not enough action, teens can also play The Bull's Eye, a classic game of darts that uses a video tracking system, or check out Tee Time for a pumped-up version of mini-golf set against a Las Vegas backdrop. In the Galaxy Pavilion, an indoor gaming complex, you'll find more than a dozen attractions, including immersive simulator experiences, escape rooms and the Topgolf Swing Suite – all of which are unique to Norwegian Prima. When it's time to cool off, the Tidal Wave waterslide is another first for the brand, letting guests ride inner tubes to catch the surf.

Norwegian Viva, the second vessel in the Prima class, is set to launch in August 2023. As the newest ship in NCL's fleet, Viva will also feature these exciting high-tech attractions, including Viva Speedway. If you and your teens are fans of the movie "Beetlejuice," you're in for a treat: The Broadway musical adaptation will debut on the new ship.

The line's Breakaway Plus class – Norwegian Escape , Joy , Bliss and Encore – is also popular with families as these ships offer plenty of activities and attractions suited for active teens, such as go-kart tracks, outdoor laser tag and VR games in the Galaxy Pavilion.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line features two cool spaces dedicated to teens and tweens, who can hang out on comfy couches, watch shows or movies, and play video games. These hangouts, called Edge (for ages 11 to 14) and Vibe (ages 14 to 17), are available on all Disney Cruise Line ships.

On Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream , the space at Vibe also features a private outdoor deck with chaise lounges, wading pools, foosball and more. While indoors, teenagers can mingle with others their age, or just kick back and relax in individual nooks. There's a dance club area for karaoke contests, talent shows and dance competitions. The trendy indoor-outdoor space – at almost 9,000 square feet – is accessible with a teens-only card or DisneyBand+. On the new Disney Wish ship, Vibe has a French twist inspired by a Paris artist's loft with neon signs and funk pop art.

For tweens sailing on Disney Fantasy or Dream, Edge is a bright, loft-style gathering spot – located in the funnel – that has individual computer stations for gaming and a massive video wall for screening television, movies and games. There's also a lit-up dance floor for dance parties. Two nifty features of the space – and its location – are views of the pool decks below as well as three portholes that allow for glimpses of the riders on the water coaster, AquaDuck, as they zoom by.

On the first night of the cruise, kids receive information on what activities and events will be available during their vacation so they can curate a personalized entertainment itinerary. Some fun options throughout the week may include "Gotcha," a game of elimination where one teen will become the ultimate victor. For a special treat – and a bit of pampering – guests ages 13 to 17 won't want to miss an afternoon at Chill Spa, located inside Senses Spa & Salon.

Royal Caribbean International

The newly updated space for teens 13 to 17 years old on Royal Caribbean International vessels is hidden behind a secret speakeasy entrance. The dedicated venue, which has a gaming lounge and music, is a cozy place to hang out to meet other teens on the ship. There's also an outdoor patio where you can relax in the sun or chill out under the stars. Teens will find planned activities throughout the day at the lounge, including sports tournaments, a nightly teen disco and themed parties.

Social 100 is an exclusive new space for ages 13 to 17 on Wonder of the Seas . The outdoor space sits next to the waterslides and boasts a hot tub, lawn games, cozy seating, a selfie area, and a bar serving zero-proof cocktails and shakes. The indoor part of Social 100 features a gaming area, foosball tables, a vending machine and more comfortable spaces for teens to mingle.

Teens have plenty of activities they can do with their families on Royal Caribbean's ships, especially on the new Icon of the Seas, the first vessel in the Icon class. Slated for its inaugural sailing in January 2024, Wonder of the Seas will be the  world's largest cruise ship .  Cruisers of all ages will have endless opportunities for fun with more venues, activities and attractions than you've ever seen on a cruise ship.

Teens and their parents will appreciate Chill Island, a three-level pool deck with the first swim-up bar at sea. The new water park, Thrill Island, boasts six waterslides, including exciting firsts at sea, such as Pressure Drop, the first open freefall slide. If that's not enough to get the adrenaline pumping, teens can check out Crown's Edge – a combination thrill ride, skywalk and ropes course – or other Royal Caribbean favorites like Adrenaline Peak, Sports Court, the FlowRider surf simulator or the reimagined mini-golf course.

If you're hanging out in the new Surfside neighborhood on Icon, a dedicated space for young families, teens will have easy access to the supervised teens-only club, Social 020, from this open-air space.

When you head ashore to Perfect Day in CocoCay, one of the best  cruise line private islands , teen cruisers will find plenty of fun land-based activities like Thrill Waterpark and 1,600-foot-long zip lines. Be sure not to miss another thrilling experience: Up, Up and Away. The helium balloon ride soars 450 feet above the ground to the highest vantage point in the Bahamas , offering incredible panoramic views of the island and surrounding turquoise waters.

Holland America Line

The Kids Club on Holland America Line offers a fun supervised program for 13- to 17-year-old guests in an adult-free zone known as The Loft. The name is in the process of changing to High Score!, and you'll already find the updated concept on Oosterdam and Eurodam . The line's other ships will change over to the new venue throughout 2024. High Score! is a family game room that serves as a secret getaway for teens by day. In the evenings, entire families can come to play skeeball, board games and join in other activities.

The teens-only space (during the day) on Holland America Line resembles a New York artists loft where kids can listen to music, watch movies, play games and meet and hang out with same-age cruisers. Programs and activities at the current space, The Loft, include themed events, karaoke, a teen disco and nighttime activities such as Poker Night and video game tournaments. Youths can also participate in pingpong, basketball and other teens-only sporting events. If they still need more entertainment to keep them busy, the Kids Club offers origami lessons and watercolor painting as well as competitions in "Mario Kart," air hockey, foosball, pinball and more.

The Kids Club is complimentary for guests. The space is open daily, and you'll also find teen events around the ship. When it comes to dining, there are many teen-friendly dining options – where teens can even enjoy mocktails like nonalcoholic mojitos – at venues throughout the ship.

If you're cruising to Alaska with Holland America or other adventure-filled destinations, look for excursions that will appeal to younger family members like zip lining tours, trail hikes, float trips, helicopter tours and wilderness safaris. Alaska is a teen favorite, especially in Skagway (one of Alaska's top destinations ), where travelers can get a thrill out of dog mushing with a team of Alaskan huskies, taking a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, or going on a rock climbing excursion.

Princess Cruises

The modern Beach House lounge is the go-to place for passengers ages 13 to 17 to socialize and meet others their age when sailing on a Princess Cruises ship. Fun activities for teens include late-night movies and tournaments where they can challenge their peers in video games or at air hockey, foosball and table tennis. For more energetic activities, join in the fun during indoor dodgeball and basketball games. Or, learn new dance moves from some of the dancers in the crew, then hit the dance floor for one of the competitions. At the "Rock the Boat Party," teenagers can dress up and party the night away with mocktails and new friends on the ship.

"Movies Under the Stars" is one of Princess' signature events. Guests can watch movies, sporting events and concerts while bundled up with cozy blankets on the pool deck outdoors. Teens will enjoy the complimentary snacks – not to mention the special movie nights designed with them in mind, such as "Scary Movie Night." You might even find teen makeovers and glitter tattoos some evenings on the ship.

The line's three newest ships – Discovery Princess , Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess – offer the most activities for teens, but all of the ships in the fleet host youth programs in partnership with Discovery, along with plenty of other family-friendly activities. These offerings include Discovery Family and Animal Planet shore excursions and onboard entertainment like "The Voice of the Ocean," a musical competition.

Parents will be able to keep track of their busy teens anywhere on the ship with the state-of-the-art Princess MedallionClass system. The quarter-size wearable medallion and accompanying app allow guests to personalize their itinerary and locate family members and friends on board.

When Sun Princess launches in February 2024, as the first vessel in the line's Sphere class, it will feature Park19. This top-deck family activity zone boasts many outdoor adventures, including Sea Breeze – the first Rollglider at sea. The ADA-accessible seated ride offers a hang-gliding experience with panoramic views of the ocean and ports of call. Families and teens can also check out the climbing obstacle course, cargo nets and lookout points. The ship also has a recreational court – which offers pingpong, shuffleboard, fitness classes and more – and a splash zone where you can cool off after all the outdoor activities.

Inside Sun Princess, tweens and teens will find two centers just for them: Neon Grove and The Underground. Both spaces offer cozy and colorful areas for young adults to hang out, socialize, and play video games on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. They'll also find foosball, skeeball and air hockey on top of planned activities like movie nights, dance parties and scavenger hunts.

Adventures by Disney

Adventures by Disney offers river and expedition cruises for the whole family; the itineraries span many choices and experiences for tweens and teens with a focus on culture, history, gastronomy and adventure. The river cruises are operated in partnership with AmaWaterways, while the expedition cruises are a collaboration with luxury French cruise line Ponant.

If you're sailing on the Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruise itinerary, for example, guests can choose between various exciting excursions. While you're docked in Strasbourg, France , for the day, teen-friendly options include a tour of the Black Forest, complete with a toboggan run and a visit to a woodworking museum. Another choice here is to visit Germany's Europa-Park, a one-of-a-kind theme park located between the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains. In Melk, Austria, on the Danube itinerary, families can go for a bike ride along the Danube River, hike to the castle in Dürnstein or visit a family-run apricot farm.

Another great feature of these cruises is that teens can opt to have dinner and evening get-togethers with same-age cruisers, so they don't have to dine with their parents or younger siblings every night. Adventure Guides also curate special activities for teens like game shows and pool parties.

In destinations like Antarctica, the Adriatic and the Galápagos Islands , expert naturalists lead tours during these bucket list trips. You might even find a bit of Disney storytelling woven into the presentations by the Adventure Guides.

Keep in mind if you have younger kids as well as teens that children need to be 5 or older to sail on the river cruises. For the Galápagos Islands expedition cruises, the minimum age for Junior Adventurers is 7, and for expeditions to the polar regions, kids need to be 10 years of age or older.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Celebration, which launched in November 2022, is the line's newest Excel-class ship. It features an expanded family and youth program, including its offerings for teens. The line also rolled out the new program fleetwide in spring 2023.

The Carnival Cruise Line teen programming at Circle "C" is for tweens ages 12 to 14, while Club O2 is for ages 15 to 17. In these venues you'll find entertainment like themed dance parties – and even a Carnival prom – as well as video games, movies and karaoke. Circle "C" stands for "Cruise, chill and connect," and that's what teens can do in this colorful, contemporary space with engaging counselors. New activities include anime drawing lessons and pop culture games at Circle "C." Older teens can foster new friendships while engaging in Japanese crafts and authentic tea ceremonies at Club O2.

Teens will appreciate Carnival's onboard water park, Waterworks, which includes a splash park and slides. Carnival Panorama even has the trampoline park Skyzone. Teenage passengers won't want to miss the first roller coaster at sea, BOLT, on Excel-class ships: Mardi Gras , Celebration and the upcoming Jubilee, scheduled to launch in December 2023.

For even more action, Vista-class ships feature Skyride. This two-lane, bike-like ride is suspended above the top deck of the ships and extends out over the ocean. More indoor fun can be found at Thrill Theater (on Horizon and Vista ), an immersive cinematic experience where you'll feel the seat rumble, the wind blow through your hair and even a spritz of water during the action-packed video.

Celebrity Cruises

This line's Teen Club features activities focused on kids 13 to 17. Some of the events offered for teens in the Camp at Sea program on Celebrity Cruises range from video game tournaments and sports competitions to culinary classes and silent disco parties. Teen cruisers can even book glass-blowing classes on Celebrity Solstice , Equinox and Eclipse . The offerings for young passengers are similar at either The Basement on Edge-series ships ( Edge , Apex , Beyond and Ascent, set to launch in November 2023) or at X Club on Solstice- and Millennium-class ships. Note, however, the line's three Galápagos expedition vessels do not have the teen venues. Families who need accessible accommodations, activities and programs will also find autism-friendly cruises on Celebrity.

When it comes to pampering, Celebrity's spas offer spa menus for 13- to 17-year-olds. Teens can book facials that are designed for young sensitive skin or have express pedicures and manicures. When you're ready to relax, schedule a two-by-two massage, where parents and kids can have a side-by-side treatment.

Celebrity also offers family-focused excursions that highlight cultural attractions, wildlife sightings and adventure. Some of these tours include seeing gentoo, king and Magellanic penguins in the Falkland Islands; taking an aerial tram through the treetop canopies of a rainforest in Costa Rica ; and going on a small culinary or sightseeing group excursion in Europe and other destinations around the world. On Caribbean sailings – especially when school is out for summer or on holidays – Celebrity has additional family-friendly shore excursions on its five- and seven-night sailings.

Cunard Line

Cunard Line offers programs and activities for passengers ages 13 to 17 years old in its Teen Zone. This dedicated space is a place for teens to hang out with cruisers their own age and play video and team games, table tennis, and more. On the first day of the cruise, you'll find an activity program for young guests delivered to the stateroom so your teens can plan out their vacation experience, which may include entertaining theme days, deck sports, quizzes and dancing at the disco.

Teens on Cunard Line can participate in the activities around the ship, hit the pool for a dip, practice their putting or try their hand at croquet. If you're sailing on Queen Mary 2, those interested in science, wildlife and the solar system can watch up to four 3D films a day (on sea days) in the largest planetarium at sea.
