What separates this beach from many other beaches in the country is that the sand here is somewhat blackish in colour . This makes its overall appeal quite unique.

If you’re in Daman during the off-season, you’ll find this beach less crowded and you can enjoy every moment in tranquillity .

However, if you’re in Daman during the weekends, you must expect a lot of tourists from nearby cities, who come here to sit back and enjoy their weekend.

Fun Things to Do at the Jampore Beach

You get to do a variety of things to do while at Jampore Beach. If you’re up for some thrill and adrenaline rush , you can go for Paragliding. There are also quad bike rides available if you’re more into motorized action.

They also have horse and camel rides, which are ideal if you have kids with you. You can have liquor or sweet coconut water, which is easily available at the beach tents.

The beach is also popular for its fresh and spicy seafood which is quite appetising.

If you like to play cricket, football, or volleyball, you can also have the time of your life playing it at Jampore Beach. The breeze, the waves, the sun, the smell of the seawater, and the sand squishing under your feet will make the whole experience a truly enjoyable and memorable one. I definitely recommend it.

Daman two day itinerary

Daman is an ideal destination for those who are looking forward to a relaxing time by the beach. It is also a great place for observing and admiring the Portuguese architecture in churches and appreciating the robust construction of forts that are standing tall even today. If nothing else, simply enjoying a few drinks at a bar with friends and family, is also what you can do.

2. Devka Beach

Devka Beach is a totally different type of beach as compared to the Jampore beach. It’s not a sandy beach as most people would expect.

It’s more of a rocky beach and isn’t ideal for surfing or bathing . However, you can walk on small rocks towards the sea and indulge in picking colourful shells on the way.

Devka Beach also offers an excellent rocky prospect for your photos if you want to fulfil your photography instincts. The view of waves crashing into the rocks is the one you can watch for a long time.

What all is available at Devka Beach?

Drinks and seafood are available at Devka Beach. Coconut water, light snacks, etc. Try the Ghotala there . It’s yummy.

It’s usually a quiet place where you can also meditate while sitting on the rocks, or simply enjoy the breeze with someone special along with some Ghotala .

Devka Beach

Devka Beach is quite rocky but fun. As travellers, we should help keep it cleaner by volunteering for it. It’s high time we preserve the environment.

3. St. Jerome’s Fort

Also known as Nani Daman Fort by the locals, the Fort was completed in 1672. The Fort is situated next to the main fishing Jetty. It has 3 bastions with a huge statue of St. Jerome. The precincts of the Fort also house the church of Our Lady of the Sea

Just like the fancy destination of Goa , Daman too was under the Portuguese for a long period of time. Hence, the reflections in the architecture of buildings.

4. Moti Daman Fort

Also known as Governor’s Palace, Moti Daman Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1559. It has 10 bastions and 2 gateways and is shaped like a polygon with over 500 feet projection.

The most intriguing part about the fort is its historical structures.

It would be an injustice to the Daman two day itinerary if the great forts of Daman do not find a place in it. Constructed by the Portuguese, these forts are as robust as any other forts across the country.

Built-in the 16th Century, these are still standing in their full glory. Although time has taken a toll on their appearance, they still please tourists who visit them as they offer a very enthralling view of the sea.

Just inside the Moti Daman fort, there’s a beautiful church called the name Cathedral of Bom Jesu. You can also visit the church and explore and admire the intricacies of Portuguese architecture.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Rosary and the Church of Our Lady of Remedies are also worth a visit.

5. The Lighthouse

The lighthouse near the Moti Daman Fort was built by the Portuguese and is also one of the best places to visit if you want to have a panoramic view of Moti Daman, Nani Daman, the beach and the sea.

It’s an amazing place for photography enthusiasts as the location is quite vibrant. Also, the journey by road to the lighthouse is quite exciting as you drive parallel to the big walls of the fort, which are also lit up in different colours during the night .

daman two day itinerary

The lighthouse is the best spot in Daman to enjoy a panoramic view of the nearby surroundings. It is located near the Moti Daman Fort. Built by the Portuguese, it is a sight to gape at in the day as well as at night. Photographers, don’t miss this place.

6. Daman Market

The Daman Market is a special and popular place amongst the tourists. As per my interaction with the locals, Daman Market has a wide range of things on sale from deodorants, perfumes, belts, watches, shoes, makeup for women, accessories, handbags to almost every other thing you can imagine.

You might ask what’s so “special” in that? But here’s the catch. If you have time and you hunt down the right shops, you can get imported products at a very cheap rate. I suggest you go shopping when you have a whole afternoon up to your sleeve, as it’s quite a time demanding a place to be in.

Street shopping in Daman is fun. Daman is famous for its leather products and wonderful handicrafts. Do buy a pair of leather slippers or woven bamboo baskets, etc, from these markets.

7. Live Musical Night at Hotel Miramar

Hotel Miramar is located in the Bhimpore area of Daman. It’s a lovely hotel which hosts live performances of professional singers and performers for the people on weekends.

The best part is, that you get to experience the melodious night near the beach. The breeze, the drinks, the food and the soulful performances scale up the overall ambience. It truly moves your soul and leaves you in euphoria.

What all is available?

Drinks, a variety of cocktails, vegetarian food and seafood.

Daman two day itinerary

A variety of cocktails, seafood and entertainment are the unique features at Hotel Miramar. Try and spend an evening here. In addition to its culinary surprises, you will be treated to the tunes of some great artists. Miramar guarantees you a good time.

Daman Two Day Itinerary: Got Some S pare Time?

If you manage to get extra time after visiting all the places from your Daman two day itinerary, you can visit the Devka Amusement Park .

It’s a fun place located by the Devka beach with quite a few rides and attractions, which would be greatly enjoyed by kids. There are also food stalls serving snacks that you can savour while enjoying the view of the sea.

I recommend this place, especially to those who are travelling with kids . They will surely be thankful to you for taking them here.

But hey, even though Daman has got Portuguese influence, but it is nowhere like Goa.

Being conveniently located equidistant from two major cities- Surat of Gujrat state & Mumbai of Maharashtra, people love to come here over the weekend. For some frequent tourists, this is their go-to destination to take a break from work. If you’re planning your next vacation to Daman, check out our solid plan for a two-day itinerary that are covering all famous places to see in Daman & top 10 things to do in Daman.

The best part we love about is that you can drive along the beach for 4 km (10 min drive) takes you from Jampore Beach all the way up to Moti Daman fort & Jetty, the famous lighthouse & ends at ‘I Love Daman’ sign.

Considering the road is a beach view provided with a footpath for walking & jogging along with sitting areas to watch the sunset from anywhere & the other side of the road there is an array of ‘She-Oak’ trees. Isn’t it lovely? It looks magical after sunset when the streetlights turned ON.

  • Tattoo parlors are also there for passionate souls.

2. Moti Daman Fort & Fort Garden

If you are into history, there is so much to explore & see at this place, as it was built in the 16th century takes you into the era of Portuguese colonies that lasted for over 450 years in Daman.

It’s an old Fort, with a huge defensive compound wall made up of stones covering 30,000 sq. meters. of areas making a pentagon-like shape if you look at the drone shots or google maps. You can climb up and walk on the wall, to get panoramic views of the beach, fort, Jetty & lighthouse, etc.

Moti Daman Fort, Daman

The fort is now the address of many important Government offices, including, District & session court of Daman, Daman Municipal Council, Administration department of Diu & Daman, Secretariat office, National Informatics, Post Office, District library, Forest Department, and their servant bungalows/houses.

Tourists are allowed to enter and see the surroundings, as there are some tourist attractions like Dominican Monastery, Bom Jesus Church, and the lighthouse inside the Fort. It’s remarkable that the fort & old buildings have been preserved & are still in their original shape.

Nirman Diwas 2021

Nirman Diwas Merger of Union Territories of DNH & DD

We visited daman on its ‘1st Anniversary of Nirman Diwas on 26th January 2021’ , where the entire Fort has been decorated with flowers and lightings, there were special events like – Flower show, Sand Art, Flea Market, Book Fest, Light & Sound Show, Heritage Exhibitions, Contest & Fireworks.

Locals participated, came with their families, it was no less than a fest! It was a great opportunity for us to see a glimpse of their culture & local art. We thoroughly enjoyed that evening!

3. Lighthouse, Moti Daman Beach, Jetty Garden (Jetty De Damao Grande)

What if, you get a beach, lighthouse & fort all in one frame!!! I have this third most favorite attraction in Daman for you!.

Whenever I see a lighthouse on any beach, it seizes my attention, and here’s a Navy Blue and White-colored multi-story lighthouse is no less. It has that vintage charm to impress you. Look how beautiful it looks in the daytime as well as at night.

Lighthouse, Daman

Moti Daman Beach & Jetty

Moti Daman Beach is where there is Daman Ganga River meets the Arabian Sea! We kinda liked this beach because from this point, many attractions are nearby and you will get the best views of Nani Daman Jetty, St. Jerome Fort, Jetty De Damao Grande, Rajiv Gandhi Setu, Lighthouse & the Moti Daman Fort of course!

As you all know, all beaches in Daman are either of black sand or muddy types but here on Moti Daman Beach we saw white sands, it is possibly because they level up by outsourcing white sand and made it attractive.

Moti Daman Beach, Daman

On ‘Nirman Diwas 2021’ they made stunning sand art on this beach. In the evening, many people gather here to watch the sunset, enjoy adventure water sports, and click pictures. It’s a nice sight to see many boats resting on the Moti Daman Jetty.

Memorable evening at Moti Daman Beach

Jetty Garden (Jetty De Damao Grande)

People come here to take groupies/selfies with the famous ‘I Love Daman’ signboard placed near Moti Daman Jetty. Photo with this iconic board is a must if you visit daman.

It gets illuminated in the night. You will find this Jetty Garden as you exit from Moti Daman Fort from the Jetty side.

4. St. Jerome Fort/Nani Daman Fort & Jetty

Do you know how Daman gets divided into two parts? It’s a Daman Ganga River that cuts through Daman to meet the Arabian Sea, divides Daman into Nani Daman & Moti Daman. We talked about Moti Daman in previous paragraphs, here’s you will find everything about Nani Daman Jetty & St. Jerome Fort also known as Nani Daman Fort.

Nani Daman offers a beach for fishing & leisure activities, ample hotels, most of them are pocket-friendly, restaurants serving local cuisines & all kinds of shopping markets, where you can see how the local people live here.

Nani Daman

Jerome Fort is the highlight of Nani Daman and comes under must-see destinations. It appears as an outpost from the Portuguese era spread over 12250 Sq. meters protected by high stone walls on which you can stand and take a walk along with the fort.

With three bastions, and two gates, inside the fort premises, there is a small vintage church called ‘The Church of our Lady of the Sea’, a School which is still working, an old cemetery, and a large playground.

Jerome Fort

Welcomed by a big old-fashioned entrance gate made up of stone opened on the riverside. If you watch closely, you’ll observe some sculptures, grave images, inscriptions carved on them. There is a big Christian holy cross on the top-middle and two crosses on both sides.

A unique symbol just below the holy cross and on both sides of the door, then there is a statue of St. Jerome, inscriptions carved on the wall, which I guess some biblical message but the language & meaning is unknown to me, there are identical human figures on either side of the door with weapons in their hands (I suppose, they are guarding the Fort) and just above them, there is an identical lion on each side. That’s how the entrance of St. Jerome Fort exactly looks like. Isn’t it captivating?

Entrance of St. Jerome Fort, Nani Daman

Take a walk on the rampart and enjoy the views of the surrounding fish market, fishing boats anchored along the jetty, the lighthouse, and the Daman Ganga River.

There is nothing much to do here, we visited the Fort early morning, when school was going on, but the church was closed. We did some photography, wandered all over the fort, and left.

Nani Daman Fort, Daman

Visit here in the evening before sunset, when food stalls & fast-food joints have settled along the jetty. Do not forget to try their famous Jetty Rolls and enjoy the sunset.

Entry fee: Free

Visiting time: All day 8 AM to 6 PM

Parking: You can temporarily park your vehicle near the walled compound of Nani Daman Jetty, in front of the fort with free of cost.

5. Devka Beach & Go Amazica Amusement Park

Devka Beach, Daman

Many black rocks spread over the beach and the waves are way inside, you need to walk on those rocks just to touch the water, which didn’t excite us.

Devka Beach, Daman

When we visited this beach in Jan-2021, there was some construction work going on the shorelines, which may happen to be a similar development to that of Jampore Beach.

The only reason behind its popularity is its location, which is away from the city and crowded attractions offer tourists serene atmosphere & privacy here. Some beachfront hotels got direct access to the beach.

You will be spoilt for choices to stay in from budgeted to extravagant hotels located on both sides of Devka Beach Road.

Thankfully, there are a lot of fun things to do in Daman for kids, from camel and Pony rides in Jampore beach, water rides in Mirasol garden to adventure rides in ‘Go Amazica Amusement Park’ near Devka Beach.

It is located opposite the famous Devka beach, where you can spend an evening time on the beach and after sunset go for adventure rides in the park.

Park timing:

Sunday: 11 AM- 1.30 PM & 3 PM – 9.30 PM

There is no designated parking in front of the amusement park, but you can park your vehicle alongside Devka Road without upsetting the traffic.

OR park in an open space at the entrance of Devka Beach and walk down here.

6. Mirasol Lake Garden & Water Park

If you are looking for offbeat holidays in Daman, away from beaches, Mirasol Lake Garden & Water Park is the place where you come, relax and soak in nature, enjoy water rides & children play activities like mini trains, pedal swan ride, boating in their manmade lake of 12 acres, beautifully designed with lush garden and trees.

It is the best choice for a fun-filled family retreat. In addition to all of this, they also have a lakeside restaurant, bar & lounge along with accommodation facilities. They also provide an arrangement for a destination wedding as well as business meetings.

7. Dominican Monastery

Dominican Monastery, Daman

Portuguese came to India, ruled here for over 450 years, and left behind their rich architectural style, carvings in the form of churches that they built. Like other churches in Daman, Dominican Monastery is a proven example of their architectural skills in terms of well-designed doorways, pillars, altars & ceilings.

Dominican Monastery is a proven example of Portuguese architecture

If you visit now, you will find the only remains are their arches and walls, as it is believed to be destroyed by an earthquake. We also learned that this monastery has been globally recognized and valued, as many catholic scholars around the world came here for theological studies as a part of priestly novitiate.

Dominican Monastery, Daman

Till today this place has religious importance in the catholic community, as they gather here for holy mass prayers & to reminiscence the history.

Dominican Monastery is a part of Moti Daman Fort, 10 min walk from Bom Jesus Church. Get the best views of the monastery from the fort walls. Do not miss this place while you are here, however finding the address is a little trickier. It is open till sundown.

Dominican Monastery, Daman

8. Cathedral of Bom Jesus Church

As I mentioned, the Cathedral of Bom Jesus Church is also one of the best testaments of Portuguese Art, that will make you fall in love with it.

This 1600’s church is famous for its detailed carvings and worth your visit. There are few churches inside the Moti Daman Fort, but Bom Jesus Church is more famous among tourists. Decorated doorways & stunning interiors will blow your mind, that’s our guarantee!

9. Maharaja Market / Mercado J. M. Falcao De Carvalho

Do not miss this very old shopping market called ‘Mercado J. M. De Carvalho’ built-in 1879, now known as ‘Maharaja Market’ located in the city center of Nani Daman. It is having an array of small outlets under one roof, crowded with people, little congested to freely roam around.

Maharaja Market, Mercado J. M. Falcao De Carvalho

You will find a wide collection of Fashion & Beauty products, Jewelry, Clothing, Electronic items, Belts, Watches, Sunglasses, Bags & wallets, Imported/Foreign goods (maybe 1st copy) are available at reasonable prices. However, you must have good bargain skills to shop here. We doubted the quality of products, so only bought some assorted chocolates. It’s a nice place to stroll & do some window shopping.

Shopping in Daman, things to do in daman

10. Church of Our Lady of the Sea

You can’t miss this church while wandering around Nani Daman Fort, because as you enter the fort, this church instantly catches your attention. Representing a very old Portuguese style church, located in the premises of St. Jerome Nani Daman Fort, famous as ‘The Church of our Lady of the Sea’.

THE 3 BEST & AMAZING PLACES TO EXPLORE IN DAMAN

' src=

In this post, we highlight for you THE 3 BEST & AMAZING PLACES TO SEE IN DAMAN . We went on a 3-day road trip to Daman from Mumbai taking the coastal route via Dahanu and Bordi. From our experiences, we shortlisted 3 places which everyone should visit in Daman other than beaches.

On the west coast of India, tucked between Maharashtra and Gujarat is the tiny city of Daman – the capital of newly merged union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

Daman is just a perfect place for whiling away some lazy hours. Located within a short distance from Mumbai and Surat, it gets busy on weekends. Known as a drinking den due to the cheap availability of alcohol which flows at every corner, you can see crowds going crazy. As Gujarat is a dry state, people frequently visit Daman in high spirits to get boozed out.

But Daman is not only about alcohol, nightlife, parties, and resorts. We have seen a beautiful side of this lovely enclave. The coastal town is home to a variety of historical monuments and some beautiful churches, which reflect the architectural skills of the Portuguese. Walking the roads of Daman is a sheer delight if you have an eye for photography, where your pictures will exhibit the history and marvels of the vintage old buildings.

Table of Contents

A LITTLE ABOUT OUR RIDE

Leaving the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at Charoti Naka, we turn left towards Dahanu Beach, around 22 km. Riding a motorcycle on a highway and internal village roads is a different experience. We enjoy the ride more when it passes through farms, seeing men and women working in the fields, village houses, and old trees guarding the road with their shades and cattle passing by. All these give a good feeling of being on the road.

We stopped at the Dahanu beach to soak in the serenity. And to give a much-needed break to the motorcycle engine. The ride from Dahanu to Bordi Beach is coastal. The sea stayed with us as we cruised between casuarina trees.

After 30 minutes of the ride, we reached Gholvad , one of the last villages of Maharashtra, before crossing over to Gujarat. While in Gholvad, we saw the vast chikoo orchards amidst the ancient Parsi-Irani bungalows.

Bordi Beach is only 2 km away, which is less crowded as compared to Dahanu Beach.

When in Bordi, visit Chikoo Parlour on Gholvad-Bordi Road and try their variety of sweets, ice creams, milkshakes, etc., made from fresh farm chikoos.

Daman is around 50 km from Bordi. As we entered Daman, the landscape revealed a burst of colonial houses, churches, and vibrant official buildings.

On the outskirts of Moti Daman Fort, The Church Of Our Lady Of Remedios catches attention. The 17th-century engravings of the main altar captivate the senses and radiate an old-world charm. Observing the church feels like exploring Daman’s rich colonial past.

We ended day 1 of our ride after attending the Good Friday mass in the Church of Bom Jesus. The long-standing church completed in 1603 witnessed a large gathering to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

THE 3 BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN DAMAN

MOTI DAMAN FORT & NANI DAMAN FORT

MIRASOL LAKE GARDEN

  • UDVADA – THE HOLY SHRINE

The Damangana creek bifurcates Daman into Nani Daman (Little Daman) and Moti Daman (Big Daman). We could count the colorful fishing vessels moored on either side of the creek. It was a beautiful sight of fishing boats with colored flags having a siesta on the jetty. At the confluence where the Damanganga River merges with the Arabian Sea, the twin forts are each built on the opposite banks of the river.

MOTI DAMAN FORT – The main street of the Moti Daman fort runs from the land gate to the sea gate and houses the famous Church of Bom Jesus , Chapel of Our Lady of Rosary , and the most visited by tourists during sunset – The Lighthouse . The walk inside the fort gave us an experience of the bygone era. It has a large number of cannons beautifully designed with note-worthy carvings. Some part of the fort needs restoration. Old buildings converted into government offices have retained their architecture. There are a few pretty colorful houses with thatched slate roofs. We enjoyed doing photography here.

places to visit at daman

There are some old trees and well-maintained gardens which attract birdlife. We spotted the kingfisher, baya weaver, drongo, flycatcher, chattering mynas, and rosy bulbuls. It took us 2 hours to explore just the outer ramparts of the fort, which sprawls over an area of about 30,000 sq m giving spectacular viewòs of Nani Daman Fort, Damanganga Creek, Football Ground, and Jampore Beach .

places to visit at daman

Near the sea gate of the fort, there is a pedestrian bridge that connects the two forts. Standing in the middle of the bridge, feeling the breeze, and watching the Damangana River merge with the sea is best enjoyed when the sun goes down.

NANI DAMAN FORT – Surrounded by towering stone walls, this 17th-century small Portuguese fort looks pretty from a distance, with hundreds of boats moored beneath it. At its entrance from the jetty side, the statue of St. Jerome set above the arch of the gate looks beautiful. This fort is also known as St. Jerome Fort. It houses the impressive Church of Our Lady of Sea , counted as the most sacred place of worship. The old church was getting ready for the midnight mass to celebrate Easter – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The excellent altar with superb paneling was getting decorated with flowers. The ramparts of this fort gave a clear view of the fish market and made for a good walk over the elegant stone walls.

places to visit at daman

We decided to spend the evening at this beautiful and well-maintained lake garden in Kadaiya village. The alluring natural surroundings were a surprise treat that helped us shun our weariness and revived our lost energies after a day-long exploration of forts.

A toy train runs around the garden, which is serene and peaceful, surrounded by a gorgeous and clean lake. It is a popular picnic location among locals and tourists alike. In the back, there is a water park. But since we are not resort-type travelers, we kept ourselves on this tiny island watching the swans, turtles, and fishes swim in the lake, the sun pouring its golden smile through the palm trees, happy and smiling faces of kids enjoying the toy train ride, couples and families spending some lovely moments in a boat ride. These simple and little things made us happy.

As the sun sets, this man-made marvel gets enlightened with colorful lighting that enhances its beauty. To see a boat pass under the bridge, through the lighted fountains and swans swimming behind is a visual delight.

The Mirasol Lake Garden has also been used for film productions. It is evident from the photos displayed in the lake restaurant of the crew members of the popular TV serial ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chasma.’

If you do not wish to eat in the multi-cuisine restaurant inside the lake garden, there is a food stall opposite the entry gate serving snacks like maggie, sandwiches, and pakoras.

UDVADA -THE HOLY SHRINE

places to visit at daman

Udvada should definitely be on your bucket list. Although geographically located in Gujarat, it is only around 15 km from Daman. Udvada is a sleepy coastal town and sacred place for the Parsi communities as it is the abode of Shreeji Paak Iranshah.

Udvada Atash Behram – the oldest Zoroastrian fire temple in India, is situated here. People outside the Zoroastrian community are restricted from entering the temple. But that shouldn’t stop you from exploring this peaceful place.

The owner of the Udwada Bakers – a bakery shop opposite the temple informs us that the earliest Zoroastrians settled in Udvada centuries ago when they arrived in India. And this is their most revered temple. Leaving Mumbai long ago, he settled down here to live a slow-paced life. And summarizing his journey in short, he somehow managed to sell us  macaroons  and  mawa cake  that we happily munched on.

places to visit at daman

The architecture and design of the temple is very much impressive. We spend time ambling along the deserted and picturesque streets, photographing the old houses and sprawling bungalows. We marveled at the ancient architecture of the town. Quaint houses with wooden railings and sloped roofs are admirable. Few of the old house even had a well in the forecourt.

Udvada is a place where time stands still. It is still untouched and unexplored and devoid of much commercialization. It has a beach which can be accessed by entering any of the bylanes of the fishermen community.

WHERE WE STAYED

Our home stay R J VILLA FARMHOUSE in Bhimpore was located in a very silent and peaceful location. Mornings were greeted with birdsong and sun-rays peeped in through the windowpane.

The other morning we woke up to the meowing call of a peacock. I opened the window, and there it was, gracefully perched on the top of an old wall of a dilapidated structure. It flew and came down to join a flock of herons busy looking for their prey in a stagnant pond. Being a solitary kind, the peacock distanced himself from herons and joined his mate under a tree, and they both started forming a circle until a dog came and chased them away.

A kingfisher perched on a tamarind tree was watching the herons closely. I think he wanted to make sure the pond inhabited some prey before he dived in. The noisy and chattering babblers entered the morning scene disturbing the serenity of the place foraging from one tree to another. And the kingfisher flew to find some better place.

It was time to ride back home again with pleasant memories of yet another joyous road trip.
