In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what sets tour model golf clubs apart, their advantages, and how to choose the right set for your game.

One of the key advantages of tour model golf clubs is their ability to offer greater customization options, allowing golfers to fine-tune their equipment to match their specific swing and style. But with so many options available, choosing the right set of tour model clubs can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ll also cover what to look for when selecting tour model golf clubs , including clubhead design, shaft options, and more. By the end of this article, you’ll have all the information you need to take your game to the next level with tour model golf clubs .

The History of Tour Golf Clubs

The roots of tour golf clubs date back to the early 20th century, when the sport of golf began to gain popularity around the world. As golfers became more serious about their game, they began to demand higher-quality clubs that could withstand the rigors of regular use. This led to the development of the first tour model golf clubs , which were designed specifically for professional golfers.

Over the years, tour golf clubs have continued to evolve and improve, with advances in materials, design, and technology. Today’s tour model golf clubs are made from high-tech materials like titanium and carbon fiber, and feature advanced design features like adjustable weights and customizable hosel settings.

The Evolution of Tour Golf Clubs

  • Hickory shafts: The first golf clubs were made with hickory shafts, which were durable and flexible, but also heavy and prone to warping.
  • Steel shafts: In the 1930s, steel shafts began to replace hickory shafts as the material of choice for golf clubs , offering greater durability and consistency.
  • Graphite shafts: Graphite shafts were introduced in the 1970s, offering even greater durability and a lighter weight for increased swing speed.

The Impact of Technology on Tour Golf Clubs

Advancements in technology have played a major role in the evolution of tour golf clubs , with new materials and design features pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the golf course. Some of the key technological advances that have impacted tour golf clubs include:

  • Titanium: The introduction of titanium into golf club design allowed manufacturers to create larger clubheads with thinner faces, resulting in increased ball speed and distance.
  • Adjustable weights: Many modern tour golf clubs feature adjustable weights that allow golfers to fine-tune the balance and feel of their clubs for maximum performance.
  • Customizable hosel settings: With adjustable hosel settings, golfers can adjust the loft and lie of their clubs to match their swing and ball flight preferences.

Today’s tour model golf clubs are the result of decades of innovation and refinement, and continue to push the limits of what’s possible on the golf course. Whether you’re a professional golfer or just looking to take your game to the next level, a set of tour model golf clubs can help you achieve your goals and play your best.

The Advantages of Using a Tour Model Golf Club

A Tour Model golf club is a premium golf club designed for professional golfers and serious amateurs. The design, quality, and materials used in the manufacturing process set them apart from regular golf clubs . Here are some advantages of using a Tour Model golf club.

Durability: Tour Model golf clubs are built to last. They are made from high-quality materials and are designed to withstand the rigors of professional use. The shafts are made from graphite or steel, which is strong and durable. The heads of the clubs are made from materials such as titanium, which is lightweight, durable, and provides maximum power and distance.

Customization: Tour Model golf clubs are designed to be customized to the individual golfer’s specifications. This means that the length, lie angle, and loft of the club can be adjusted to fit the golfer’s swing and playing style. This customization leads to greater accuracy and more consistent shots on the course.

  • Clubhead Speed: Tour Model golf clubs are designed with larger sweet spots and thinner faces to maximize clubhead speed. This increased clubhead speed translates to greater distance off the tee and with fairway shots.
  • Weight Distribution: The weight distribution of Tour Model golf clubs is carefully crafted to maximize distance. By moving the weight to different parts of the clubhead, manufacturers can create clubs that generate more ball speed and greater distance.
  • Shaft Flex: The flex of a golf club’s shaft can also impact distance. Tour Model golf clubs often have shafts with a higher flex point, allowing for greater power and distance on shots.

Feedback: Tour Model golf clubs provide golfers with excellent feedback on their shots. The solid feel of the clubhead at impact and the sound of the shot provide golfers with information about the quality of their swing and the location of their shot on the clubface.

Comfort: Tour Model golf clubs are designed with the golfer’s comfort in mind. The grips are often made from high-quality materials that provide a comfortable and secure grip on the club. The weight and balance of the club are also carefully crafted to provide a comfortable swing and reduce the risk of injury.

In conclusion, a Tour Model golf club can offer golfers several advantages over regular golf clubs . These advantages include durability, accuracy, distance, and feel. By investing in a Tour Model golf club, golfers can improve their game and enjoy the benefits of playing with premium equipment.

Differences Between Tour Model and Standard Golf Clubs

Tour Model golf clubs are designed for advanced players, such as professional golfers, who demand a high level of performance from their equipment. In contrast, standard golf clubs are designed for average players who are just starting to play or have a low handicap. Here are some differences between the two:

Design: Tour Model golf clubs have a sleeker, more compact design than standard golf clubs. This allows for more control and precision in shot-making. Standard golf clubs , on the other hand, have a larger, more forgiving clubface that helps beginners get the ball airborne more easily.

  • Tour Model: Tour Model golf clubs are made from high-quality materials, such as titanium and carbon fiber, which are both lightweight and durable. These materials allow for better feel and feedback, which is important for advanced players who need to make subtle adjustments to their swing.
  • Standard: Standard golf clubs are made from cheaper materials, such as stainless steel or zinc. While these materials are durable, they do not provide the same level of feel and feedback as higher-end materials.

Customization:

Tour Model golf clubs can be custom-fitted to a player’s specific swing characteristics, such as swing speed, angle of attack, and ball flight. This ensures that the player is getting the most out of their equipment and can optimize their performance on the course. Standard golf clubs are generally not customizable, which can be a disadvantage for players with unique swing characteristics.

In conclusion, the differences between Tour Model and standard golf clubs come down to design, materials, and customization options. While Tour Model golf clubs are designed for advanced players and provide better performance, standard golf clubs are more forgiving and easier to use for beginners. Choosing the right type of golf club depends on the player’s skill level, swing characteristics, and personal preferences.

How to Choose the Right Tour Model Golf Club for You

If you’re considering investing in a tour model golf club, it’s important to choose the right one to suit your needs. Here are some factors to consider when making your decision:

Handicap Level: Consider your skill level and handicap when choosing a tour model golf club. Advanced players may benefit from a more specialized club, while beginner or intermediate players may find a standard club more suitable.

Swing Style: Consider your swing style and the type of shots you prefer. Some tour model clubs are designed for specific swing styles or shot types, so choose one that complements your natural swing.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Tour Model Golf Club:

  • Clubhead: Tour model clubs generally have smaller clubheads and a lower center of gravity, which can provide more control and precision.
  • Shaft: Consider the flex, weight, and material of the shaft. A stiffer shaft may provide more control, while a lighter shaft can increase swing speed. Graphite shafts are popular for their lightweight and vibration dampening properties.
  • Grip: The grip can affect your swing and control of the club. Consider the material, size, and texture of the grip when choosing a tour model golf club.

Budget: Tour model golf clubs can be more expensive than standard clubs. Consider your budget when choosing a club and prioritize the features that are most important to your game.

Tips for Trying Out Tour Model Golf Clubs:

  • Visit a Fitting Center: A fitting center can help you find the right tour model club for your swing and body type.
  • Try Out Different Clubs: Test out different clubs to find the one that feels the most comfortable and provides the best results for your swing style.
  • Consider Customization: Many tour model golf clubs can be customized to fit your specific needs and preferences.

By considering these factors and trying out different tour model golf clubs , you can find the perfect club to improve your game and enhance your playing experience.

Caring for Your Tour Model Golf Clubs

If you’re a dedicated golfer, your golf clubs are some of your most valuable possessions. Proper care can ensure that your tour model golf clubs perform at their best and last for years to come. Here are some tips to help you care for your clubs:

Clean your clubs after each round

Use a damp cloth to wipe off dirt and grass stains from the clubheads and shafts. For stubborn dirt, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the clubheads. Make sure to dry your clubs thoroughly before putting them away.

Protect your clubs during transport

Invest in a quality golf bag with a protective hood to keep your clubs safe during transport. Avoid tossing your bag in the trunk or back seat of your car, as this can damage the clubheads and shafts.

Store your clubs in a dry place

Avoid storing your clubs in damp or humid environments, as this can cause rust and other damage. Instead, store them in a dry, cool place like a closet or garage.

With proper care and maintenance, your tour model golf clubs can provide you with years of enjoyment and improved performance on the course.

16-Year-Old Kris Kim Makes PGA Tour History by Making Cut at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

  • Author: Tom Dierberger

16-year-old golfer Kris Kim is going to have to cancel his weekend plans.

In his PGA Tour debut, Kim shot a four-under 67 on Friday at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson to push his two-day total to seven-under 135, making the cut by one stroke. He'll be playing on Saturday and Sunday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Kim now is the fifth-youngest player in PGA Tour history to make a tournament cut, and the youngest since 16-year-old Kyle Suppa made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2015.

Kim, the son of former LPGA Tour player Ji-Hyun Suh, made five birdies and an eagle Thursday to shoot a three-under-par 69 to start the tournament.

He'll be chasing the tournament's front-runner Jake Knapp, who enters the weekend wiith the lead after shooting a 14-under 128 across Thursday and Friday.

TP5 Golf Balls

TaylorMade 2021 TP5 Golf Balls

There’s one ball that’s better for all.

There’s a reason TP5 is the Most Complete Tour Ball in Golf, because it’s built like no other. As the only 5-layer Tour ball, it delivers unmatched performance off the tee, from the fairway and around the green. On any shot the golf course throws at you, there’s one ball that’s better for all.

Increased Carry with New Tour Flight Dimple Pattern

The new Tour Flight Dimple Pattern unlocks the next level of aerodynamics while promoting maximum carry distances and a steep angle of descent for extra stopping power, especially on long irons.

ball flight

 TOUR CONTROL & COMPLETE PERFORMANCE

TP5 is our softest and highest spinning Tour ball, with enhanced stopping power inside 100 yards. Fueled by a soft cast urethane cover, its increased greenside spin provides control and precision where it matters most: Closest to the pin.

soft case urethane

Expanded Core, Increased Speed

A larger and more reactive core is the centerpiece of the new TP5. It is designed to store and release energy more efficiently, delivering a spring-like effect that results in faster ball speeds and increased distance compared to its predecessor.

reactive core

The Path To Distance

The path to distance has evolved with the all-new TP5. In 2017, a movement began with the optimal spin and launch conditions provided by our 5-layer construction. Then we increased ball speed with the HFM Speed Layer and now we’ve added advanced aerodynamics with the Tour Flight Dimple Pattern.

tour made golf

New Tour Flight Dimple Pattern

Our most aerodynamic dimple pattern ever is now producing explosive carry distances. This unique design features a 322-dimple pattern engineered to deliver improved aerodynamics. It features a shallow overall dimple to reduce drag during ascent, with steep walls to trap air during descent in order to maintain lift and keep the ball airborne for longer.

5-Layer Construction

The key to achieving enhanced speed without negatively affecting spin performance comes from TaylorMade’s proprietary 5-layer ball construction. Including a larger and more reactive Tri-Fast Core that delivers maximum carry and low drag and a Dual-Spin Cover that features an ultra-soft, highly durable cast urethane cover, TP5 offers complete tee-to-green performance without sacrifice. The ultimate result is a ball that promotes a fast launch, maximum carry distances and a steep angle of descent for extra stopping power – especially on long irons.

Speed-Layer System

The Speed-Layer System is comprised of four increasingly stiff layers to produce more ball speed. The result is more carry distance off the tee, more control in the wind, and more spin around the greens.

High-Flex Material (HFM)

TP5 features a material called HFM (High-Flex Material), delivering higher ball speeds through a greater rebound effect. HFM acts like a tightly wound spring that builds energy and rebounds quickly, generating more ball speed.

Rory McIlroy on expected return to PGA Tour policy board: 'I don't think there's been much progress made'

Mcilroy cannot confirm whether he is on his way back to the board, but he does have plenty of motivation to make that move.

RBC Heritage - Final Round

Rory McIlroy appears to be on his way back ... to the PGA Tour policy board. McIlroy left the board in 2023, when he was replaced by Jordan Spieth, but there has been a groundswell of support of late to have him rejoin one of the organization's governing bodies.

Webb Simpson recently voiced support for his seats going to McIlroy; Simpson is a member of the policy board and PGA Tour Enterprises board as a player advisor. Though unable to confirm such a move, McIlroy on Wednesday at the 2024 Zurich Classic did address the rumors as  reported by the Guardian .

"I think I can be helpful," said McIlroy while answering a hypothetical question about rejoining the board. "I don't think there's been much progress made in the last eight months, and I was hopeful that there would be. I think I could be helpful to the process ... but only if people want me involved, I guess.

"When Webb and I talked, and he talked about potentially coming off the board, I said, 'Look, if it was something that other people wanted, I would gladly take that seat.' And that was the conversation that we had.

"... That's the whole reason. I feel like I can be helpful. I feel like I care a lot, and I have some pretty good experience and good connections within the game and sort of around the wider sort of ecosystem and everything that's going on. At the end of the day, it's not quite up to me to just come back on the board. There's a process that has to be followed, but I'm willing to do it if that's what people want, I guess."

This would be a meaningful move for all parties.

McIlroy was vocal during his prior tenure on the board, constantly battling threats from LIV Golf while fighting for the existence of the PGA Tour. Last summer, he said he felt like a "sacrificial lamb" when commissioner Jay Monahan appeared to reach an agreement with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund that sought to eventually merge interests between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

Then McIlroy suddenly resigned from the board in November.

"I just felt like something had to give," McIlroy said at the time. "I just didn't feel like I could commit the time and the energy into doing that. I don't mind being busy, but I just like being busy doing my own stuff. Something had to give and there's guys that are on that board that are spending a lot more time and a lot more energy on it than I am."

Other current player directors alongside Simpson and Spieth are Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati and Adam Scott. All six are on the PGA Tour policy board and the board of the new for-profit PGA Tour Enterprises, which just received an investment of up to $3 billion from Strategic Sports Group.

These active players are joined on the PGA Tour Enterprises board by former player Joe Olgivie and six other members, including Monahan, four representatives from SSG and Valero chairman Joe Gorder.

McIlroy has been an interesting voice since resigning from the board last fall. He has spoken often about what world tour might look like, something that would only be possible with a consummation of the Tour's proposed deal with the PIF (in which the fund would ostensibly make a similar investment to SSG and resume a combining of the leagues' interests).

"I think it's all pie-in-the-sky stuff," McIlroy said in February. "I think there has to be a component of the southern hemisphere: Australia, South Africa. There obviously has to be a component of the Far East, whether that be Korea, Japan, China. Obviously the Middle East as well. We've been going to the Middle East for a long time, but obviously Dubai, Saudi, and then sort of working our way from East to West and back into the United States for the sort of spring, summertime.

"I don't think it will look too dissimilar to what it is right now, but maybe the front end of the year and the back end of the year might look a little different. I don't think we need to blow everything up, but there definitely needs to be some tweaks."

McIlroy, who has voiced that he's OK with LIV players returning to the PGA Tour with no punishment -- for the health of the game overall -- and constantly preached unification, also distanced himself a bit from Spieth and others in February. He left a group chat of other top players, instead holding a discussion with Spieth about the need for the Tour to finalize its deal with the PIF and bring the entire golf world back together. At the time, McIlroy described the conversation with Spieth as "frank."

Rory also addressed his differences with other board members on Wednesday.

"[I would manage those differences through] compromise but also try to articulate your points as well as you can and try to help people see the benefits of what unification could do for the game and what it could do for this tour in particular," he said. "We obviously realize the game is not unified right now for a reason, and there's still some hard feelings and things that need to be addressed, but I think at this point for the good of the game, we all need to put those feelings aside and all move forward together."

CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024 picks: Our red-hot PGA pro reveals 10 rules for winning bets this week

Editor's Note: This article is published in partnership with Read The Line , a Golf Digest content partner.

Opportunity awaits every week on the PGA Tour—opportunity to win and secure your tour card, and an opportunity for sharp bettors to bring home a sizable take. The 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson starts on Thursday. Whether you plan to place your weekend wagers pre-tournament or live in-play throughout the contest, my weekly 10 insights will surely help you cash more tickets.

RELATED:  CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024: Why our PGA pro isn’t betting Jordan Spieth this week

For our other bets and our selections for the worst value options for the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, make sure you watch our weekly “Odds Drop” video:

1. The weather is a concern this week. Jason Day won last year in soft conditions and rain will affect play again in 2024. More than six inches of precipitation has fallen in the past 10 days, and more is predicted for all four rounds with Thursday being the worst. If you like making First-Round Leader bets, it looks like the afternoon wave may get a break from the worst weather. Keep an eye on those afternoon tee times for Thomas Detry, Si Woo Kim and Seamus Power.

2. If you are looking at historical data, stop at 2021. TPC Craig Ranch has only been the host venue for three years. Betting knowledge at the Byron Nelson prior to covid is not relevant. The top five players in strokes gained/total at TPC Craig Ranch in this field are: C.T. Pan, Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth, Marty Dou and K.H. Lee, per RickRunGood.com.

3. The average winning score for those three years is 25-under par. The two winners K.H. Lee (2021, 22) and Jason Day (2023) averaged 27 sub-scores on their way to winning. 2,021 birdies were recorded last year in the tournament, the third most on tour in 2023.

RELATED: CJ Cup Byron Nelson DFS picks 2024: I love these bombers and birdie-makers in Texas

4. Par 5s are the first key to scoring at TPC Craig Ranch. In 2021, seven of the top 11 on the leaderboard finished in the top 10 for par-5 scoring. In 2022, seven of the top-12 finishers did the same. Last year, the top 11 finished inside the top 15 in par-5 scoring. Take the top par-5 scorers in the field and filter for 550-600 yard holes and Thorbjorn Olesen, Mackenzie Hughes, Alex Noren and Nick Dunlap jump off the page.

5. This is the seventh longest course on tour, and it is already wet. On Thursday it will be even softer and play longer. Add some length to your betting cards. Inside the top 10 for strokes gained off the tee are some interesting betting names: Keith Mitchell, Alejandro Tosti, Cameron Champ, Maverick McNealy and Si Woo Kim.

RELATED: The hilarious reason Kevin Kisner isn’t broadcasting OR playing the U.S. Open at Pinehurst

6. This is a wide-open field with only five players in the top 40 of the world rankings in the 156-player field. That might mean we’re due for a longshot. Our Golf Digest experts in our betting panel thinks so .

1440602842

Carmen Mandato

7. One way competitors can separate themselves from the field is with the mid-to-long iron game. Over one third of the approaches at TPC Craig Ranch are hit from over 200 yards. Who has the best proximity in that range? Robert MacIntyre. Near the top of that category, we see Andrew Novak, Olesen and Mitchell again, and Tom Hoge.

8. To find the best sub-par scorers in the field, I looked at the Birdies or Better Percentage and birdies gained leaders. Your top-5 super scoring machines are Matti Schmid, Taylor Pendrith, Hoge, Wesley Bryan (small sample) and Justin Lower.

9. Comp (or comparison) courses can be very helpful on wide open weeks. The best relevant results can be found at Corales, Vidanta Vallarta, Detroit Golf Club, and TPC Deere Run. DA Weibring consulted on Deere Run and Craig Ranch.

10. McKinney is a northern suburb of Dallas, Texas. Three players reside in the Dallas region and will sleep in their own bed this week: Jordan Spieth, Kelly Kraft and 2019 Byron Nelson winner Sung Kang.

Kris Kim, PGA Tour

When 16-year-old Kris Kim arrived at TPC Craig Ranch earlier this week for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson , he had one goal in mind: make the cut.

That objective became a reality on Friday evening, as Kim carded a 4-under 67 to make the cut by two shots.

In doing so, Kim became the youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut since Kyle Suppa made the weekend at the 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii . He also became the youngest player to make the cut in CJ Cup Byron Nelson history, surpassing Jordan Spieth , who did so at 16 years, nine months, and 24 days.

Kim is currently two months younger than Spieth was at the time.

“It feels pretty good. I feel like I’ve played well over the last two days,” Kim said.

Kris Kim, PGA Tour, Byron Nelson

“Stayed pretty patient out there. Yeah, I guess it worked.”

Kim opened his second round by making four birdies over his first six holes, with a bogey at the par-3 4th sandwiched in between them.

He added another par-breaker at the par-5 9th hole to finish with a 4-under 32 on the front nine. By that juncture, he was well above the cut line at 7-under par for the championship and well on his way to making history.

But some adversity began to creep his way into his round. Missed opportunities at the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes kept Kim at bay, and then he dropped a shot at the par-4 13th. He drove his tee shot into the bunker there, which sent Kim back to 6-under. At that point, he was one shot above the cut, with nerves settling in.

“I guess I was,” Kim said with a smile when asked if he had some nerves down the stretch on Friday.

Kris Kim, PGA Tour, Byron Nelson

“It wasn’t too bad. It’s golf at the end of the day.”

He also revealed that he and his caddy ignored the leaderboards after the 15th hole, focusing solely on the present. They did not want to get distracted, nor did they intend to overthink the task at hand.

Pars at 16 and 17 followed before Kim stepped up to the par-5 18th, the second-easiest hole of the week thus far.

“To be honest, it being a par-5, it’s pretty helpful,” Kim said of how he felt on the last tee box.

“But, yeah, I mean, there is always going to be nerves when you’re on the cut line—whatever the tournament.”

Somehow, Kim managed to calm those nerves and make an easy birdie. He laid up on the 552-yard hole, sticking a wedge from 91 yards out to six feet for his third, setting up a golden opportunity. He cashed in on the final green, accomplishing the goal he set forth earlier in the week.

“I’m happy,” Kim added. “I can’t wait to get started again [on Saturday].”

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Kris Kim, a 16-year-old amateur playing on a sponsor exemption at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, became the youngest player in nine years to make the cut in a PGA Tour event.

Kim finished his second round Friday with a birdie for a 4-under 67. At 7-under 135, he was among 66 players who made the cut, which was 6 under. Jake Knapp was the leader at 14-under 128 .

Kyle Suppa was 16 when he made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2015.

At 16 years, seven months old, Kim surpassed Jordan Spieth as the youngest player to make the cut at the Nelson. Spieth was two months shy of his 17th birthday when made his first PGA Tour start at his hometown event in 2010, and finished tied for 16th.

Kim, who is the son of former LPGA Tour player and South Korea native Ji-Hyun Suh, is making his PGA Tour debut. He is the first amateur sponsored by South Korean company CJ Group, which is the title sponsor of the Nelson for the first time.

Moscow guide&photo! Feel Putin vibes and explore the enigmatic Russian soul through history ...

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
