ABOUT OMARU

Omaru Alpacas is owned and run by Rob and Siân Rickards.

We began our journey with these delightful animals back in 2011 at a time when the industry had settled down into a steady growth period. We joined the Australian Alpaca Association (Victorian Central Region) and have since experienced the highs and lows of working with the animals and the land. On the whole we can honestly say, it has been a wonderful experience.

We have developed two main aspects of the industry. Primarily we farm the animals for their fleece and to breed quality animals we can sell. We have also developed the tourism aspect of the industry. We live within one hour of the Melbourne CBD and are easily accessible for bi-monthly open days.

We are available to discuss alpacas and their care. Even if it takes a few hours for us to respond to messages, it is always worth leaving one.

The guided tours are designed for small groups of people who would like to spend time on a working farm, meet some animals, and learn about farming, fleece and spinning.

Our farm includes alpacas, llamas, donkeys, Miniature Galloway cattle, poultry, and a tranquil water feature with Japanese Koi Carp. The tour is intended to be an educational and interesting visit where, as well as meeting the animals, you can also find out about farming and general maintenance. The fact that this guided tour is only for small groups ensures you will have plenty of personalised attention.

For the 1.5 hour tour, you can choose to experience 2  of the following. Alternatively, on the 2 hour tour, you will see all 3: Alpacas and Llamas Donkeys

We can also discuss the possibilities of how city dwellers can become involved in farming without relinquishing the convenience of living in town, if this is something you are interested in.
