Cooktown is not only known as the location that the English sailor Captain James Cook set foot on this land in 1770 but it is also known as the first white settlement location for new Australian’s and also for the gold and tin mining booms that were thriving here between 1872 and 1907. Today some tourists flock to Cooktown to see the township that they learnt about in their school history books and others so they can follow in the footsteps of their ancestors.

All of the lodges, cabins, resorts and bed and breakfast accommodation properties trees in the World Heritage listed Daintree and Cape Tribulation Rainforest have been built to blend in with the natural environment with as little as possible impact on the natural resources and bio diversity of the surroundings whilst still offering guest the choice of minimalistic accommodation or the very luxury top end accommodation and food and beverage services to match.

Mission Beach is visually spectacular when you hit the beachfront esplanades. The quality and position of holiday accommodation here is spectacular to say the least and you can be assured you will find the perfect accommodation to suit your personal desires. Although Mission Beach is a sleepy little hollow don’t be mistaken for thinking there is not much to see and do as it is known as one of the most serious action and adventure places to visit for the adrenaline junky.

Port Douglas is known due to the publicity that surrounded its development as an international holiday destination in the heady days of excesses in the 80’s when luxury resorts where built which in turn attracted the rich and famous and also more developers to build the wide choice of holiday options we have today. Even though Port Douglas is still on the radar of celebrities and movie makers you can still feel its warmth and laid back charm that only the tropics can offer.

The Atherton Tablelands are a destination for the tourist wanting to take a scenic drive or for the couple looking for that quaint little romantic getaway in a bed and breakfast or tree house cabin. The whole family really loved the Kuranda train and Skyrail and we upgraded to the Gold Class on the train and Diamond View on the Skyrail. Spent lots of time in Kuranda exploring this lovely place it was great thank you

Went and had a great day at Josephine Falls sliding down the granite rock slide was awesome but the water from the mountain bloody freezing well worth the trip it was a blast!

The family saw this tour to the rainforest and said they want to book it so we booked on line in Dubai and we are very happy we did. Billy Tea driver very good information enjoyed tour greatly thank you Adhil

We had good time Jungle Surfing with the family. Great for the young one fun on the hampster wheel thank you Adhil

Just got off the magnificent ocean freedom machine. What a vessel, what wonderfull helpful staff. I had dived before in Tahiti 20 years ago and felt comfortable, but today I could get a grip of it and with as much help and reassurance from the staff I couldn't dive today. No matter at all as the snorkelling is amazing and the barracuda swimming around the back of the boat was truly amazing. There are 4 different places to relax and we used them all at some point during the day. Money very well spent and I would recommend this to anyone at any level of competence.

Behana Gorge is a popular swimming hole for locals and tourists

  • Information

Escape the Cairns and Tropical North Queensland heat for the waterfalls and rainforests of the free local Cairns attractions and take the plunge into the mountain fresh water and even swim into the bottom of the waterfalls. The area is perfectly divided into areas that are well shaded and others that are beaming with sunshine. The whole of Behana Gorge is lined by giant granite boulders where jumping in to the water becomes an option for the adventurous.

Please be aware of all safety notices around Behana Gorge and do not jump in shallow waters or raging rivers at any time! The rocks can be very slippery and cause some casualties

Take a moment to relax, close your eyes and listen to the wildlife, the sounds of the rainforest along with the mystic waterfalls flowing and you will know that you are in paradise.

Pack a picnic and stay the whole day but just make sure anything you bring into the Gorge leaves the Gorge with you

Is Behana Gorge Family Friendly?

When travelling as a family on holidays you want to do exciting tours that suit everyone in the family and that includes the younger children. Behana Gorge is family friendly if you are travelling with children that are fit little one's and can do the walk and also swim quite well. On the Behana Gorge tours the recommended age for children at this popular swimming hole is 8 years and above.

We recommend only bringing children who are feisty fit 5 year olds and over for this lttle adventure as they need to walk quite a ways for little legs and then clamber over granite boulders to the swimming hole.

For little one's we would recommend other swimming holes such as Josephine Falls , Crystal Cascades , Babinda Boulders or the Lake Barrine Volcano Crater .

The hike back to the car park is much easier and is 95% downhill. The time on the hike back flies before your eyes and soon enough you are back at the car park. This is the perfect holiday hike in terms of length, distance and above all for the magic and beauty of Behana Gorge, Cairns Tropical North Queensland Australia.

Behana Gorge World Heritage Area

Behana Gorge is a part of the Wooroonooran National Park, and Wet Tropics World Heritage area. It’s a beloved ‘secret spot’ for locals, who enjoy tackling its long, steep hike and being rewarded with a refreshing swim at Clamshell Falls. The landscape here has a backdrop of towering rainforest mountains, with Behana Creek flowing down through the gorge, before joining the Mulgrave River and making its way to sea.

Where Is Behana Gorge? – Behana Gorge is a thirty-five minute drive south of Cairns city. It’s part of the Cairns Regional Council catchment and helps to fulfill the fresh water needs of Cairns. Access is by driving through the sugar cane fields of Gordonvale, on Cairns’ south side.

Welcome to Country – The Traditional Owners of the area around Behana Gorge, and specifically the Mulgrave River, is the Mallanbarra Yidi people. The Mallanbarra clan estate extends from Gordonvale following the Mulgrave and the Little Mulgrave River, which is where our rainforest river tubing tours are conducted. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Wooroonooran National Park is a simply stunning destination which offers a glimpse into Australia’s natural past. Its landscape is dominated by towering mountains, including the tallest in Queensland – Mt Bartle Frere, which rises up 1,611m. The mountains are cloaked in thick rainforest, which shades and ‘hides’ numerous rainforest rivers, creeks, ravines, gorges and more. Behana Gorge is in the northern realms of Wooroonooran National Park, outside Gordonvale, and accessible by road then foot. Cairns Adventure Group’s rainforest river tubing tours are held here, in Behana Creek, Mulgrave River or Little Mulgrave River, offering a front row seat to this amazing natural playground. The best river will be chosen on the day for the tubing tours, pending weather and river conditions. Your Rainforest Adventure, Starts With Us.

Clamshell Falls

Clamshell Falls is at the southern end of Behana Gorge , and to get there, you’re going to have to walk.

It is not the tallest waterfall in Australia , but Clamshell Falls is about style rather than height. The creek cascades along what may as well be a giant bumpy slide carved from granite.

The Behana Gorge canyoning tours include full tuition on how to use the kit, plus a succession of jumps, slides and abseils. The key advantage of having the walking trail alongside the creek is that if you don’t fancy doing a section, you can opt to skip it.

The 30 metre zipwire into a pool is great fun, however.

At time of writing, these five hour Behana Gorge canyoning tours cost $224 and can be booked online .

Had the best time canyoning at Behana Gorge! Was scared to start but started to build my confidence. The guides where amazing, funny, engaging, helpful, encouraging, supportive, intuitive. thankyou for helping us create amazing memories, experiences and push past our comfort zones!

TripAdvisor

Canyoning in Crystal Cascades was epic! Everything I hoped it would be and more thanks to the awesome guides. They supply all the gear you need and make sure you're safe and have an awesome time. Rappelling down waterfalls, jumping off cliffs, sliding down and playing in waterfalls... get ready for some exhilarating fun that you won't forget anytime soon! An absolutely beautiful place.

Our cool calm and collected guide leader Keanu did a fantastic job of keeping us safe and running us through all the skill training necessary for the activity. The couple of people in our group that were less confident were really well taken care of and we all had a great experience with stunning views.

Wasn’t sure if the Crystal Canyon tour was going to be too full on or not, but Bazz took us under his wing and made the day super fun, and tested our mental prowess with abseiling, rock sliding, cliff jumping and zip lining. So glad we chose this tour as it pushed us out of our comfort zone and gave us a real taste for canyoning. Cannot rate Bazz and his team highly enough

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
