Backstreet Boys Party Like its 1999 on ‘DNA’ World Tour: The Five Best Moments

US band Backstreet Boys performs during a concert held at Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid, Spain, 13 May 2019.US band Backstreet Boys concert in Madrid, Spain - 13 May 2019

Call it a near-flashback. Sitting at Anaheim’s Honda Center, I felt like a teenager in New Zealand watching Backstreet Boys ’ “Into the Millennium” tour on a VHS mailed to me by an American pen pal. Mesmerized as the boy band rose up on a platform above a sea of awestruck fans dressed in “Millennium” and “Friends” shirts, it was wildly reminiscent of that time 20  years ago, when the quintet flew onto the stage on hover boards. The opening chords of the record’s swoony ballad, “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now,” the anthemic beats of “It’s Gotta Be You” and the outfit change which later saw them reemerge like they had just stepped out of their “I Want It That Way” video, only heightened the time trip.

The 1999 vibes were felt well before the tour kicked off. There was the group’s 10th studio album, “DNA” debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart in February, marking their first number one in almost 20 years. There was lead single, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” landing a Best Pop Duo/Group Grammy nomination alongside fellow 1999 favorites Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. And there’s the Grammy Museum’s “Backstreet Boys: The Experience,” exhibit.

A Backstreet Boys concert is never short of nostalgia, but the group’s current trek is the most “Millennium”-like show yet, with a set list featuring almost two thirds of the 1999 album. And for fans attending the group’s two Southern California stops (Saturday at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and Monday at Anaheim’s Honda Center) that was just fine. “If you want to continue the party like it’s 1999 again, can I get a ‘Hell yeah?’” Kevin Richardson, 47, enthused, the Pre-2K energy shared by groupmates Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Nick Carter and Brian Littrell. Read on for the five best moments from Anaheim’s Monday night show.

Popular on Variety

The opening Fans unaware of the opening act may have been surprised to see a carbon copy of a teenage Littrell performing a solo set. Indeed, it was his 16-year-old son, Baylee Littrell. While it’s not the first time the aspiring country crooner has opened for the boy band, this time he’s all grown up with his own music, fanbase and stage presence, which had fans dancing along and making up their own actions as he performed singles like “Don’t Knock It” and “Boxes.”

The set list Throwing a curveball with the opener, the group swapped party-starting hits like “Larger Than Life” for a remixed intro of “Everyone” from 2000’s “Black & Blue,” which sampled Coolio’s “Gangster’s Paradise” before “I Wanna Be With You,” from their self-titled 1996 debut.

The first four songs all featured the signature melodies of music making legend Max Martin, whose impact on the band was strongly felt, with around half of the set list comprised of songs Martin wrote and produced.

Having established this would be their most “Millennium”-heavy tour since the record’s 1999/2000 concert run, the group returned to 2019’s “DNA” with Dorough singing part of “Chateau,” while Carter, 39, belted out some of the poignant ballad, “The Way It Was.” The quintet also performed the album’s raunchiest track, “New Love,” while dirty dancing against a backdrop of seedy, red-light district scenes centered around “Hotel BSB” — unnecessary visuals, but perhaps the group’s way of reiterating they’ve grown from boys to men.

Eight of the band’s 10 albums made the set list, with 2008’s “Unbreakable” and 2013’s “In a World Like” conspicuously absent.

The stage While it wasn’t quite in-the-round like the original “Millennium” outing, the “DNA World Tour” stage features a protruding pentagon, which gives a similar feel once the singers hit the peak. Created with ER Productions, the set-up features lasers, pyrotechnics and the golden ticket which is the “DNA Circle,” a hole in the middle of the pentagon. The prime spot offers the unique sensation of dancing in the middle of the stage amid the dizzying but welcome dilemma of which way to look when you have 360-degree Backstreet Boys views.. “Remember 20 years ago when you would throw your bras at us? Kevin and I want to return the favor,” McLean, 41, teased, before tossing a Fruit of the Loom memento into the crowd.

The emotion Something about the late ‘90s pop scene sparked intense feels, whether it was the fierce rivalry between Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC fans, the deep investment in Britney Spears ’ romance with Justin Timberlake or the tears that flowed as teenage girls finally got to see idols like BSB in the flesh. Most fans have since grown up and adapted to lives that didn’t culminate in marrying Nick Carter, but the boys still evoke the same deep emotion. After 70-odd Backstreet Boys shows, I shed my first concert tear hearing the opening chords of “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now,” having previously given up hope of ever seeing such an old favorite live. My only gripe was that the moment was overshadowed by the band rising so high into the air that they were concealed from the whole front section underneath.

The a capella Back in their formative years, the guys regularly performed a capella covers of songs like Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” “That’s how we got our record deal, but we didn’t have our own songs,” said 44-year-old Dorough in introducing “Breathe.” “So we had to sing songs by other artists. I’m proud to tell you that today we have our very own a capella song.” While I can’t be alone in thinking it a bit odd that the tune shares the same title as one of their best songs on “In a World Like This,” there was no denying the magic of their combined harmonies as the fivesome huddled around like the good old days with nothing but their voices.

Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys fans around the world are gearing up for 2019, as the boy band is embarking on their biggest arena tour in 18 years starting in May. The DNA World Tour, named after the group’s forthcoming 10th album (due Jan. 25), will see the Backstreet Boys hitting 27 countries and 43 North American cities, bringing nostalgia across the globe.

Backstreet Boys

See latest videos, charts and news

Though the Backstreet Boys have been putting on quite the show in Las Vegas with their Larger Than Life residency since March 2017, a trek of this caliber is taking things to an even bigger level. The guys are currently performing a very hit-filled 19-song set in Vegas, but with another studio album on the way, it’ll be interesting to see what hits get replaced by new tunes — or if the Backstreet Boys are going to deliver an even longer set.

While Backstreet classics like “I Want It That Way” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” are pretty much no-brainers, having soon-to-be-10-albums’ worth of highlights to choose from surely won’t make set list curation easy for BSB. But if Billboard had any say, this is what our ideal DNA World Tour set list would look like:

Trending on Billboard

Backstreet boys announce massive 70-date world arena tour: see the dates.

“Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”

The thrilling hit serves as their Vegas show closer, so they likely wouldn’t want to do the same for this tour. But “Everybody” is too electrifying to just stick in the middle of the set, so if they can’t close with it, why not open with it? Besides, the much-overused (but still beloved) pun of “Backstreet’s Back” works perfectly here, as the guys haven’t been to most of the cities on the tour in at least five years.

“Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)”

After getting things started with such a rousing tune, “Quit Playing Games” is a perfect follow-up to give the guys a bit of a vocal rest while still keeping the vibes upbeat and fans on their feet — though there may never be a point where they want to sit down anyway.

“We’ve Got It Goin’ On”

Keep the nostalgia train rollin’ with a third hit from the Backstreet Boys’ first album. If there’s anyone who isn’t already up and dancing, this song literally makes it impossible for them to remain seated with its hook: “Everybody groove to the music/ Everybody jam.”

“Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely”/”More Than That”

With so many songs to fit into one concert, it’s inevitable that the Backstreet Boys will have to mash-up some of their hits. The heartfelt Millennium track and the impassioned Black & Blue hit may come from different albums, but their sentiments and their melodies actually work pretty well together (“More Than That” even says “don’t give loneliness a chance”), which will also make for a powerful opportunity for the guys to show off their iconic harmonies.

“Chances”

Considering this is the DNA World Tour, the guys will have to perform at least the first two releases from their 10th album. No matter how many they end up playing, starting out with the dynamic “Chances” serves as a reminder that BSB is still making music that’s perfect for a live setting 20+ years into their career.

AJ McLean Explains Why Backstreet Boys' Upcoming LP 'DNA' Is 'One of Our Best Bodies of Work'

“All I Have to Give”

The guys have always prided themselves on their harmonies, and “All I Have to Give” is a perfect tune to put those front and center. With much more choreography ahead, the spirited ballad would be even more special if the guys were to sing it completely a cappella — just imagine how that key change would sound with no backing track!

“The Call”

This is about one-third of the way into the show — a great time to get fans riled up for the rest of what’s to come — and “The Call” is just the song for that. The charged-up Black & Blue hit will make for an exciting moment in the show regardless of when the Backstreet Boys sing it, but right after a series of vocal-heavy performances would make the song even more impactful.

“In a World Like This”

The guys haven’t sung any tracks from 2013’s In a World Like This while in Vegas, so it’d be nice to hear at least one on their biggest arena tour in 18 years. Even if it’s just played over a video montage while the Backstreet Boys change outfits, there should be at least one little shout-out to the album that marked their return as a quintet five years ago.

“ DNA Song No. 2″

Though fans have only heard two songs from the upcoming  DNA thus far, AJ McLean recently assured Billboard that every song is so good they could all be singles, and that the album is almost as incredible as their Diamond-certified 1999 sophomore effort  Millennium . With a bold statement like that, BSB will likely want to play more than just two tracks from their latest LP, so almost halfway through the show would be a good time to drop one in.

“Incomplete”

Fans will likely be into the new DNA track, but following that up with a song they can belt along with is a fantastic way to keep the energy up — and lead into the next belt-out portion.

“Crawling Back To You”/“Drowning”

Backstreet Boys may have only ever performed the Never Gone single on the Never Gone Tour in 2005/2006, so it’s about time they remind fans that the emotional song was a severely underrated smash. And mixing it in with a BSB love song that was a hit, the guys would have fans feeling all the feels with this part of the show.

'It's What America Needed at That Time': Backstreet Boys Look Back on Their U.S. Debut, 20 Years…

“The One”

Once BSB have melted hearts with a slower romantic section, the guys could get fans back out of their seats by busting out one of the more anthemic love songs in their catalog, “The One.” Plus, they haven’t sung a pre-2000 hit in about six songs, so this is a subtle hint that there’s still plenty more of those to come.

“Just Want You To Know”

But, before they get to more of the classics, Backstreet Boys should resurrect their glam metal alter ego Sphynkter for their other underappreciated Never Gone cut. (If you don’t know what that means, please watch the “Just Want You To Know” video now.)

“ DNA Medley”

The guys could give a couple more DNA songs their time to shine with a medley of two or three of their favorites. Depending on how those songs sound, these can either be acoustic renditions or full-on choreographed performances.

“I’ll Never Break Your Heart”/”God, Your Mama, and Me” (Acoustic)

Regardless of whether Backstreet Boys made their DNA medley acoustic, stripping down this mashup would be an affecting way to let their vocals soar. Plus, the guys have really only performed their Florida Georgia Line collaboration with the country duo, so it would be pretty cool to hear them do the song on their own, especially mixed with one of their earliest hits.

“Get Another Boyfriend”

With six songs left, here we go with the power-packed, hit-filled finale. This Black & Blue highlight proved to be a favorite of Backstreet’s and fans during the Vegas residency, and was recently ranked by Billboard  as one of the 100 best pop deep cuts of the entire 21st century. Its thumping beat and roaring vocals make it one of the more energized parts of the entire show — and would surely be the same on the DNA Tour.

“Shape of My Heart”

A not-so-deep-cut from Black & Blue , “Shape of My Heart” was one of Backstreet Boys’ biggest chart successes (reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000), so it will likely be a set list staple until BSB is done. Chart stats aside, “Shape of My Heart” is one hell of a fun song to sing, and would be an appropriate kick-off to the rest of the singalongs that are about to happen.

“As Long As You Love Me”

At this point, Backstreet Boys have cycled through so many hits that fans may have forgotten they haven’t sung one of their most famous ballads. But as soon as they bust out those chairs , they’ll be thankful BSB didn’t forget about it themselves.

Backstreet Boys Earn First Pop Songs Chart Hit Since 2007 With 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'

“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”

It wouldn’t be the DNA Tour without the epic hit that began the DNA era for Backstreet Boys. Though they’ve been performing the pounding single on various TV programs and in Vegas, there are still thousands of fans who haven’t seen the song live yet — and building the anticipation all the way until the third-to-last song is the ultimate way to get them pumped for it.

“I Want It That Way”

There’s really no better way for BSB to follow up their most recent hit with their most iconic. That unforgettable intro riff would immediately have some fans teary-eyed and most losing their minds with excitement, and since it’s the pre-encore, there’d be streamers or glittery confetti to make the moment even more mesmerizing. “I Want It That Way” doesn’t really need any frills, but it will get all the pomp and circumstance it deserves as the pseudo show closer.

“Larger Than Life”

As the last song of such a hit-filled set, it’s inevitable that there will be pyrotechnics, and the booming beat of the Millennium hit would be matched with equally dynamic vocals from all of the Backstreet guys — especially AJ McLean’s roaring final note. While a one-song encore may seem a bit underwhelming, there’s really not a much “Larger” way to close out BSB’s biggest tour in nearly 20 years.

Martin Lawrence addresses health concerns after ‘Bad Boys 4’ premiere: ‘I’m healthy as hell’

Martin Lawrence, left, and Will Smith strike a pose

Martin Lawrence  is assuring fans that he is healthy amid concern sparked by his “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” press tour.

The actor appeared on a recent episode of Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning” (via  Entertainment Weekly ), where the host asked him about rumors claiming he’s not healthy. A  video interview  where Lawrence appeared to slur his words a bit and an appearance at the “Bad Boys” premiere where some fans thought he looked unsteady as he held on to Will Smith for support sparked concern.

“Now Martin, everybody’s talking [about] you on the balcony waving at people, [you’re] looking around, where you’re looking around? Were you looking around like, ‘Yo, this is massive?’” host Ebro Darden asked. “Because people took it like there was something wrong with your health.”

Lawrence explained that he was only surprised by the crowd size at the premiere, saying: “I was like, oh, this is rock concert stuff. What the hell is going on? I was like, for a movie?”

When asked if there is “anything you want to say to the people because they’re concerned about your health,” Lawrence answered: “I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands. I’m blessed, you know? I’m glad to be waking up every day. I’m all good. No need for people to be concerned.”

Lawrence said later in the interview: “I’m healthy as hell. Stop the rumors!”

Fans’ worry for Lawrence could’ve been sparked by his previous medical history. The actor had a health scare in 1999 when he collapsed due to severe heat exhaustion and was put in a three-day coma.

“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is the fourth entry in Lawrence and co-star Will Smith’s long-running action franchise.  Variety’s  critic Owen Gleiberman gave the sequel  a positive review , writing: “The two stars are in top form, and so past being too old for this shit that it almost seems young again.” The movie opens in theaters June 7.

Martin Lawrence declared “I’m fine,” reassuring fans as he clapped back at recent rumors about his health.

The 59-year-old comedian and “Bad Boys” star confirmed in a recent interview that he’s in good health after a video of him holding onto co-star Will Smith at the “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” premiere in Hollywood last week went viral . In the clip, Lawrence holds onto Smith’s left hand as he introduces the “Black Knight” star to off-screen fans.

“There is something going on with Martin,” reads text on the video.

Review: In ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ the action party rolls on, vigorously and untroubled

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reunite for a fourth chapter of the Miami-set buddy-cop action franchise, which at this point may be too well-oiled a machine.

June 4, 2024

Before the L.A. event, fans also voiced concern on YouTube , where they commented on the “Bad Boys” duo’s “Extra” interview published two weeks ago. “I’m worried about our brother Martin,” one YouTube user wrote. Another YouTuber commented, “Martin is NOT ok. Get well Marty Mar.”

Lawrence dismissed those concerns Tuesday, telling Hot 97 radio host Ebro Darden there’s “no need for people to be concerned.”

“I’m healthy as hell, stop the rumors,” he said .

For Hot 97, Martin and Smith reflected on their careers and the beginning of the “Bad Boys” franchise, which premieres its fourth film on Friday. In her review , film critic Katie Walsh wrote that the newest “installment favors the goofy.”

“It’s a thin tapestry of lore with some interesting creative embellishments, but without any real interest in character, it feels flimsy and disposable,” Walsh adds. “You could do worse, but you could certainly do better.”

‘Guess who’s back!’ Martin Lawrence announces his first comedy tour in eight years

Martin Lawrence announces his first stand-up comedy tour since 2016. It kicks off a month after his movie with Will Smith, ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ premieres.

May 8, 2024

This summer will be a busy one for Lawrence. In addition to “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the “Martin” star will embark on his first comedy tour in eight years. His Y’all Know What It Is! tour , announced in May, will kick off July 20 in Chandler, Ariz. He will take over Crypto.com Arena on Dec. 6.

Lawrence told Hot 97 that stand-up comedy has been his “saving grace” because it allows his fans to gain some “insight [into me] and how I view the world.”

“I’m so glad that I’m afforded the opportunity to always be able to go out at any time and perform stand-up in front of an audience,” he said. “They be there for me. My audience is a dedicated audience — I got like [Beyoncé’s] beehive.”

Will Smith, Martin Lawrence tour Miami, get special surprise ahead of ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s’ global release

The Magic City is now Bad Boys Nation. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have taken over Miami this week to promote the new “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” movie, which by the way, is in theaters now.

The Bad Boys are back.

The stars behind the franchise, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, sat down Thursday at the Pérez Art Museum Miami.

All smiles between the two as they look back on the franchise.

Will Smith: “We’ve grown up as Miami has grown up. So we’ve grown up together.”

Martin Lawrence: “Me and this man have been married for 30 years!”

The duo talked about all the improvising in the film and a top-notch script.

Will Smith: “It was a really spectacular screenplay and, you know, it’s kinda like a suit. You know, you buy a suit off the rack, and it’s a really nice suit, but then you tailor it for yourself.”

And, it’s not exactly a suit, but the pair also made off with some great Miami sports threads.

Miami-Dade County officials thanked the actors for showcasing Miami’s unique landscapes and cultures.

Plus, a special surprise.

Chairman Oliver Gilbert: “Do proclaim, tomorrow, June 7th, the worldwide release day, as Bad Boys Day in Miami-Dade County.”

The stars say they would return to film again in the Magic City in a heartbeat.

Will Smith: “We will come to Miami and work in Miami as long as the people…”

Martin Lawrence: “Will have us.”

Will Smith: “Don’t mind the traffic.”

Martin Lawrence: “Yes.”

Will Smith: “Right?”

Martin Lawrence: “Yes!”

And why not? After all, the duo got to play ball with the Marlins.

Lawrence threw out the first pitch at Wednesday night’s game, before the big premiere.

For some lucky fans, the guys were not shying away from the cameras.

And later, the red carpet felt like home.

Will Smith: “Martin and I made our careers on the first ‘Bad Boys’ here in Miami, and we feel at home here, so we just thank you, the people of Miami, for making it be an open place to create.”

With their love for Miami’s music, weather and energy, they gave the city an honor of its own.

Will Smith: “It is a – it is absolutely the third, Miami is the third Bad Boy.”

John Stamos Opens Up About Performing with the Beach Boys “The Thrill of My Life”

by Clayton Edwards June 1, 2024, 6:49 am

Many fans know John Stamos from his time on incredibly popular and long-running TV shows like Full House and General Hospital . However, he is far from a one-trick pony. Along with being an actor, Stamos is also a musician. He has been playing with the Beach Boys since the mid-’80s. He’ll continue his stint with the classic band as they embark on their Endless Summer Gold Tour this summer. The tour celebrates the 50th anniversary of their iconic album Endless Summer .

Videos by American Songwriter

Recently, Stamos joined the Beach Boys as they headlined the Fox and Friends All-American Summer Concert Series. During an onstage interview , Stamos shared his thoughts about performing with the band. “Discord is at an all-time high and decency at an all-time low, but thank God we have the Beach Boys music to get us through,” he said. “The music that they wrote was made for this moment right now. It’s almost more powerful now than when [they] wrote it,” he added.

About performing with the Beach Boys, he said, “Next to the son and my wife, it’s the thrill of my life. I’m so thankful for Mike and Bruce and the guys. Just to be a little part of the conduit that puts this great music out into the world—I’m very thankful.”

How John Stamos Started Performing with the Beach Boys

John Stamos recalled how he started playing drums for the Beach Boys in an interview with Howard Stern . “I played drums since I was a kid and the Beach Boys were my idols growing up in Southern California,” he said.

“I knew the guitar player and I went to a show and he come back before the encore,” he recalled. “It was like ’81 or ’82 and General Hospital was on and all these girls and cheerleaders chased me into the dressing room,” he added. “Mike Love said, ‘Who’s that?’ and Jeff said, ‘That’s my friend. He’s on TV.’ Mike said, ‘Do girls follow him around like that all the time?’ Jeff said, ‘Yeah’ and Mike said ‘Get him on stage,’” Stamos explained.

“I was around and I would play on the encore. And Dennis had died, their original drummer. They always used two drummers. So, I was double drumming for a while. I just kept on and kept on and my drumming was decent,” he said.

'Purple Gas' by Zach Bryan and Noeline Hofmann – Lyrics & Meaning

Zach Bryan and Noeline Hofmann - ‘Purple Gas’

Official release date: june 7th, 2024, songwriter: noeline hofmann, producer: zach bryan, the background:.

When Canadian singer-songwriter Noeline Hofmann brought her trilling acoustic lullaby 'Purple Gas' to Zach Bryan's Belting Bronco song series, singing the tune in the back of a moving Ford, the 'Something in the Orange' hitmaker was hooked.

The pair soon retooled the tune, recording it as a duet that will appear on Bryan's forthcoming album The Great American Bar Scene, which is set for release later this summer . Lucky for us, 'Purple Gas' wasn't a song Bryan could hold onto for that long. He officially dropped it Friday (June 7); and now, we're all hooked too.

'Purple Gas' is a simple song, born from a rounded pluck and a honeyed strum. The melody never really deviates from its delicate pattern, allowing the tune to be guided rather than constrained.

It may not be the most impressive or innovative undertaking, but it perfectly mirrors the lyrics, a simple sound for some simple words that make for an impactful listen.

The Meaning:

I've got plates for Purple Gas 'Bout the only break I catch But I am not the kind of man To blame the dealer on a losing hand Have a lone star in my eye The darker the sky, the brighter it shines Pumpjack checks and baler twine A ton of grit or maybe it's spite

Upon first Google, you'll find that "purple gas" is a strain of marijuana. With the mention of a "dealer" in the first verse, that seems like it may check out, but as phrases like "pumpjack checks" and "baler twine" begin the filter through the song, purple gas becomes something quite different.

According to the blog A Prairie Perspective , in the 1940s, the Canadian government made farmers' bulk fuel purchases exempt from provincial taxes. In order to distinguish the fuel for farm use from that of civilian use, it would be dyed purple. Vehicles and machinery that used this purple gas would be marked with the letter "F" on their license plates.

So when Bryan opens the song, singing " I've got plates for Purple Gas / 'Bout the only break I catch," it means he may get a deal on fuel but it's hard luck with everything else. He croons, though, that he's not the kind of person to blame anyone else for the cards he's been dealt.

Hofmann's sparkling lilt arrives to finish the verse, singing how she's got a fire in her belly and a twinkle in her eye, wondering if it's "a ton of grit or maybe it's spite."

And if I weren't a flatland boy, I'd say I have a hill A hill that I will die upon if the climb don't get me killed If there were such heights around here for a guy to lay his pride Maybe I'd rest before I died if I weren't a flatland boy If I weren't a flatland boy

The slow-burning ballad seems to be set on Canadian prairie-lands, a great expanse of golden nothing, and the two artist sing of what life is like there, what it's like being a "flatland boy" without a hill to die upon.

The pair dream of greater heights, but at the end of the day, it's hard to imagine being anything but a flatland boy.

I hammer down, hair straight back World blurs past, tell me how's it that My horizon line's static I guess at least it's a sure bet Was taught to not throw the first fist But if you take a hit, finish that son of a bitch In a life having the upper hand's a myth Your only fighting chance is too stubborn to quit

They sing of hard work and the harsh way of life on the prairie, of learning how to hammer, how to brawl and how to take a hit along the way. In the verse, the two sing about wanting more, but knowing that life here is a "sure bet" for a flatland boy.

They sing that you can trust a "sly thumb of Rye sometimes" to take the edge off and look for different days ahead on the horizon, but at the end of the day, you " can't get there, it goes on forever / Oh, it just goes on forever / You keep your head down, it goes on forever. "

But I've got plates for purple gas I've got plates for purple gas

What have Zach Bryan and Noeline Hofmann said about ‘Purple Gas’?

Ahead of the release of 'Purple Gas', Bryan took a moment to gush about the Hofmann-penned tune and his duet partner.

He wrote in a post on his social media: "This song brought me to tears the first time I heard it so it was really important for me that Noeline gave me the privelege to sing it with her. I have never covered another musician on an album and it’s because I was waiting on someone to write a song like this. Noeline resonates like Gillian Welch to me and Gillian is one of my favorite musicians to ever live; now Noeline is too."

Along with those words, he noted his plans to make a fan-sourced music video to go along with the song. "I like doing these because it makes me feel so much more connected to the people that listen to my music," he told his fans, recruiting them to "send anything ya’ll want: hometown, farmland, American centered, midwestern, western style footage to this link, we will not be picky: https://zachbryan.warnerrecords.com "

Retired rail ties, point-nine wire Neighbor kid on the fencin' pliers Fargo that turns over fine At forty below if you cuss it right A sly thumb of Rye sometimes Keep a bottle hid with the Bio-Mycin You can dull the edge, you can look ahead But can't get there, it goes on forever Oh, it just goes on forever You keep your head down, it goes on forever

Little Island

Little Island was the place to be Thursday night, despite any drizzle.

New York bon vivant Fran Lebowitz was spotted chatting with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz before the debut of choreographer Twyla Tharp’s new show, “How Long Blues,” while “Murphy Brown” legend Candice Bergen held court nearby.

Bravo head Andy Cohen — who is publicly dealing with blowback from a number of “Real Housewives” stars — was spotted having a blast sitting next to Jimmy Buffett’s widow, Jane.

Barry Diller, Diane Von Furstenberg

Cohen was heard gossiping with a “Summer House” fan across the aisle about the show, which was airing its reunion episode the same night.

Natasha Lyonne and CAA whiz Bryan Lourd were also in the crowd.

Billionaire Barry Diller welcomed guests with wife, fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg, who both pioneered the island project.

Fran Lebowitz

Of the gray weather, Diller said, “It’s not a parade, but I hope no one rains on it… Maybe we’ll be lucky. Don’t they say if it’s a wedding, if it rains it’s good luck? But nobody is going to be happy.”

The skies seemed to have cleared at the beginning of the dance performance set to the tunes of T Bone Burnett and David Mansfield.

When it began to drizzle later, a few guests ducked out. But most stayed in their seats as it misted through the song “Hallelujah,” and the dancers received rousing applause.

Candice Bergen

Diller explained of the park and performance space that opened in 2021: “This is the beginning of four months of performance… What we wanted to do was commission new work… One of the reasons we wanted to do it, is because so little of that is happening in New York and many cities where arts budgets and non-profits have been slaughtered post-COVID.”

Diller and Von Furstenberg ponied up $260 million to create the multitiered floating park at Pier 55, via a family foundation and some government funding.

Diller has also committed another $100 million to the park’s programming. Each performance is $25 per ticket.
