This was my 12th cruise but first Disney cruise.

Embarkation

We live 20 minutes from the port. My husband works in Galveston close to the port so he dropped us off at 11:30 a.m., our scheduled port arrival time, with our luggage. The porter took it all for us and my husband went and parked our car at his work parking lot. Lucky for us, my husband met some Disney Cruise Line employees through his line of work and one in particular told him to call him when we got to the port so he could expedite our check in. We happened to run into him while my husband was calling him and he had us escorted to the concierge check in area. Check in seem to be quick though for everyone else as well. There was a long line for the kid club bands but we were told we could get them online so if our Boarding number had already been called, not to wait in line but just get on the ship. So that’s what we did!

It was truly magical to have our names announced as we entered into the lobby of the ship. They asked our family name and then they announced us. I got a little teary-eyed. But I also cry during Wishes so that’s not unusual behavior for me! After getting announced I went to Guest Services to get a Happy Birthday button for my daughter since that day was her 12th Birthday. The crew wished her Happy Birthday everywhere we went!

We booked at interior stateroom and it met our needs and it’s what we are used to. What I liked though was the kid’s bunks weren’t over our bed so the cabin is roomier. The couch made into a twin and the bunk came down over that. The kids (9 and 12) were comfortable. My parents had a verandah room with the split bath and that is a really nice feature. My son spent the night with them one night and my dad said he tried out the couch bed and he thought it was pretty comfortable. We also traveled with a family who had a two-bedroom suite and it was super nice and super roomy. They got lots of nice daily treats with their concierge amenities. We were on Deck 6 and it is an idea floor to be on since dining was on Decks 3 and 4 and Oceaneer Club and Lab were on Deck 5.Pool and buffet were on Deck 9. In the middle of the night on the second night, I moved my leg across the end of the bed and noticed it was wet. The ceiling sprinkler was dripping. We reported it to our room steward Charlie first thing in the morning. Maintenance could not fix it right away so they ended up moving us 3 cabins down. No upgrade darn it but they did send us a bottle of wine for our inconvenience.

I thought all the food was very good. I didn’t have high expectations because some friends cruised the two weeks before us and said the food was okay. She actually said, “It wasn’t as good as other lines but it wasn’t like it was inedible. We did each gain 6 pounds!” Well, I thought the food was excellent and I gained 5 pounds! The seared sea bass in Lumiere’s was by far my favorite dish. The seafood, especially on the buffets, was plentiful. I was very happy after every meal with the exception of the character breakfast and the farewell breakfast. I ordered pancakes and those just don’t hold up for that kind of mass dining service. I wasn’t unhappy with the pancakes, they just weren’t the best. The buffet closes early so pretty much after 2 p.m. your dining options are the fast areas around the pool and room service. My favorite thing was to get them to put the taco meat on the fries and top with grated cheese at Pluto’s Dog House. That’s were some of my 5 pounds came from! They sent us home with souvenir menus and our dining team said they were going to be making some changes soon.

Disney service was top notch. Cocktail waiter Daniel from Peru could not be more friendly and helpful. Our dining team of Agus from Indonesia and Natalie from Trinidad & Tobago were by far the best serving team we’ve ever had. They were delightful, happy, fun, attending and could not have taken better care of the kids at our table. We were a table of 14 friends and family and they became family.

We’ve visited each of the ports multiple times. We did not book excursions in Grand Cayman or Costa Maya. In Grand Cayman we walked from the port to a bar and grill called Paradise. We ordered drinks and rented snorkel gear for $10. My husband and kids snorkeled and swam. There were beautiful fish and large tarpon. It was easy access to the water from Paradise. After all the snorkeling and swimming, we ordered some food before shopping a bit. We planned to take the bus to Mahahual and hang out along the beach and rent jet skis. However, once we got off the ship, the water was so choppy and it looked like a storm coming so we just grabbed some beach lounge chairs by the pool there at the port so we could get quick cover if necessary. Sure enough the winds picked up and the rain came down. We ducked into Senor Frogs and had drinks, salsa, chips and guacamole. We hung out there for a while before we got back on the ship. We did the Dune Buggy and Beach Snorkel excursion in Cozumel. It was so much fun and I would definitely do it again. Our guides were Eduardo and Julio. We were mainly with Eduardo because Julio ended up being in charge of 9 people who mainly spoke Spanish. They were both very friendly and Eduardo was very knowledgeable. We ended up driving Polaris Razors instead of the dune buggy in the picture on the Disney Port Adventure website. They were awesome! We followed the leader to Punta Sur Eco Park. We got a little muddy on the way with white sand mud. We learned about the crocodiles and how they are safe at the eco park and we learned about the Mayans and saw some small ruins. We then got a lot of beach and snorkel time at a beautiful stretch of calm beach. My daughter and husband went off to snorkel but son and I stayed an played on the beach that was pretty much secluded to us. After the snorkel group got back, we ate a nice, delicious Mexican buffet. We played follow the leader back to the port. Rushed in some 15 minute shopping and boarded the ship.

Entertainment

Maybe my kids are jaded to the Disney characters because we just did a 7-day Disney trip 10 months prior to the cruise. They were not interested in waiting in line to see the characters or get autographs. They loved the character interaction at our set Character Breakfast and they loved stumbling upon characters occasionally but they didn’t want to wait in any lines. That was fine with me. The nightly shows were absolutely fabulous! The Disney productions are spectacular. We enjoyed them all. My son was selected to be a part of the Welcome Aboard Show with the Bucket Boys so that was special for us. There were tons of activities to keep you busy throughout the cruise. I really enjoyed the opportunities to learn how to draw a character. We also played some trivia.

The hours are extended compared to other lines and you don’t have to pay after 10 p.m. like you do on other lines. That’s a nice feature. However, my 9-year-old did not want to go to the Club as often as he has on other cruises. Maybe because he’s older. When he did go, he was mainly interested in the video games. My 12-year-old had her first taste of cruise independence and since we were traveling with another family with kids her age, it worked out well since they could buddy up. The went to Edge as the activities were of interest to them.

Disembarking

We went to the dining room for breakfast as they suggested. We dined in Animator’s Palate, which is where we had dinner the night before. This was our scheduled place to dine. It was plated service and we had one last opportunity to see Agus and Natalie. After breakfast, we disembarked and it was an easy process. The line for customs looked horrendous but it moved quicker than it looked. It took us less than 30 minutes to get through customs.

We truly enjoyed our trip. It was fabulous and I would definitely enjoy cruising on Disney again. We love that it’s here in our area for a while so maybe we’ll get to.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.:)

Thank you for the nice review.

We've been to Grand Cayman many times so this trip we decided to go to Paradise Grill as well and enjoyed it immensly. Perfect location (walking distance) excellent friendly service, and so nice that they let us just hang out there while we spent the day snorkeling. Of course we ordered food and drink throughout the day as well. Snorkeling was great there!!!

It sounds like you had a terrific vacation! I sailed on Magic out of New York last month, and had Charlie as my stateroom host. He was great. We were three women traveling together, and he just knew that we would need more towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc. We had enough towels in our room that I think we could have supplied everyone on Deck 6 LOL!!

Last year, we had Agus as our server. He was one of the best we've had. I'm sorry that we didn't have him last month. Our servers were OK, but certainly not the best we've had!

Sounds like what we are looking for! Was Paradise difficult to find? Did you rent the chairs from them?

Paradise is simple to find. It's right on the water just a couple blocks south (take a right on the main street when you get off tenders). You'll walk right into it if you walk on the water side of the street. As you are riding in on the tenders, look to the right just down the shore and it's the building with the bright green roof. You can't miss it.

As far as chairs go, they did have a spot in some sand with some beach chairs that you could rent, but no one was using them. There really isn't a beach there, it's all rock with steps down into the water. Everyone that arrived was offered a spot on the covered "porch" area to put their stuff and sit and relax. They did have lockers and we rented one for $5 I think, but you don't really need to do that. We just had all of our stuff at, around and under the seaside table. It was great. They brought us drinks and food and it was really perfect for what we were looking for.

Did adults dress up a lot for Pirate Night, or is it mostly simple stuff like just hats & eye patches? I have a full pirate costume for the Halloween party, but I'm not sure if it's too over the top for Pirate Night or if I'd blend right in.

Is Pirate Night when they do the fireworks?

Yes, fireworks are scheduled for Pirate night.

We just got off the Oct 13 cruise. Many adults dressed up, others wore the bandanas the servers put on you at dinner. Don't miss dinner - they take the kids through the restaurant in a line and Limbo. A surprise that all the kids loved.

Some costumes very elaborate, like the family of adults dressed totally Pirate, with a teen dressed as a Parrot. So fun to see! Whatever you want to wear on pirate night would be OK. Full pirate costumes were definitely in that night.

Did people wear pirate costumes to dinner too, or just for the party after dinner?

Great review! Thanks so much.

You might be able to answer a question -- we will be sailing on Nov 3rd and my parents are wondering if they will be able to get the Fox News Channel on the ship to watch election returns. Do you happen to know?

This was our experience too. There were 6 of us and 3 snorkeled and the other 3 hung out on the covered porch at Paradise and drank drinks. When the three were done snorkeling, they ordered some food. The staff was very friendly. We did not rent a locker but there are plenty available. Snorkel rental equipment is $10 a person for an unlimited amount of time. You'll see Paradise to the right of the port with the bright green roof as you tender in. It's on the main street and it's an easy walk!

Yes, many adults had full costumes on! It was so much fun!

People wore their costumes to dinner. There is a Mickey bandana waiting on your plate when you go to dinner so they want you to be "dressed" for the occassion. The waiters were all dressed for the occassion too!

I do not remember about live TV! I didn't watch much TV but when we had it on, it was just like home, the kids had it on the Disney Channel! The ship did broadcast Monday Night football so I would imagine that it would be possible to get a satellite feed for election results.

Yes, Fox News and MSNBC among others are available in the Staterooms.

Hope they enjoy the Magic!

About Disney Cruise Line Port Galveston Terminal

Disney Cruise Line offers cruises from several ports in the United States, including Port of Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida . Passengers setting sail on Disney cruises out of these Florida locations have historically made up the bulk of Disney’s business. However, Disney also provides cruises from the Port of New York and other ports like the Port of New Orleans and Galveston.

Despite a lower cruise volume than Disney cruises from Florida , the Port of Galveston remains popular with families and couples seeking Western Caribbean getaways. The Port of Galveston is a multi-purpose port, handling cruises, cargo and commercial ventures. Also known as Galveston Wharves , it has operated since 1825.

What Is the Address of Disney Cruise Line at Port Galveston?

Disney Cruise Line operates out of Terminal 2 (also called Terminal 28) at the Port of Galveston.

The address for Disney cruises at Port Galveston is:

Port of Galveston Cruise Terminal 2 2702 Harborside Dr. Galveston, TX 77550

Phone: (409) 766-6100

Directions for Driving to Port Galveston

If you’re coming from the north or west, take Interstate 45 South to Galveston Island and follow Exit 1C toward Harborside Drive. Turn left onto Harborside and follow the signs for each terminal entrance.

If you’re coming from the east, take State Highway 87 West to Galveston Island and use the Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry system. Exit onto Ferry Road/ Highway 87 and turn right onto Harborside Drive. Continue for five minutes to Terminal 1 or about 10 minutes to Terminal 2. Follow the signs for each terminal entrance.

Cost of Parking at Port Galveston for Disney Cruises

When planning a Disney cruise out of the Port of Galveston, TX, it’s essential to factor in the parking costs. The length of the cruise will determine how much parking will be required and the fee associated with it. You can choose to park at the port’s official parking lots or at a third-party parking facility.

Official Galveston Cruise Parking Lots and Garage

The Port of Galveston offers two official parking options: a nearby Economy Lot that provides a complimentary park-and-ride shuttle to your departure terminal, and the Express Lot and Parking Garage which are within walking distance of the terminal (no shuttle provided).

Port Galveston’s Disney cruise parking rates for 2024/2025 range from $18-$25 per day, plus taxes and fees. We suggest reserving parking in advance .

It’s also important to note that rates are subject to change without prior notice by the Port Authority at Galveston. Double-check for any updates before making your parking plans.

Unofficial Galveston Cruise Parking Lots and Garages

There are several third-party parking lots and garages in the Galveston port area.

The largest indoor parking facility in Galveston is operated by Port Parking . It’s located about about a mile from the Disney Cruise Line terminal and provides customers with a complimentary shuttle. There is ample space to accommodate large vehicles, such as SUVs. The company takes its security seriously, too. Their indoor parking facility is completely enclosed; all access doors are locked at the end of the day, while motion detector alarms, laser beams, and surveillance system ensure your vehicle remains safe. Outdoor parking is just as secure, protected by 15.5 ft. razor wire fencing and timed gates that only the facility owners can open.

Prices for this facility vary, with rates anywhere from $10-$26 per day being common (subject to change — be sure to re-check prices before your cruise).

Space is limited; reservations may be made in advance , but are subject to cancellation fees.

Parking at Nearby Hotels

Some hotels located very close to the port offer their registered guests the option of leaving their car parked at the hotel during their cruise. Check directly with your travel agent or hotel to determine if this option is available and how much it will cost.

Restaurants Near Port Galveston

Passengers embarking or disembarking at Port Galveston will find various dining opportunities in the area. The historic Strand District features dozens of restaurants and bars within walking distance of Terminal 2.

There are also plenty of eating options just off the beach in the hotel district along Galveston Seawall, such as chain restaurants, family-oriented attractions, convenience stores, and grocery shops.

Whether seeking souvenirs or sustenance before embarking on their journey, passengers can rest assured that convenient dining options abound near Port Galveston.

Weather Impacts on Disney Cruises from Galveston

While Galveston Disney Cruises aren’t scheduled during hurricane season , weather can still impact your sailing. You might be surprised to learn that early morning fog often delays cruise departures and arrivals in Galveston . While this is rarely a significant issue, it might throw the ship’s schedule off by a few hours as you wait for the port to reopen. To minimize the risk of this causing a problem:

  • On the first day of your Galveston cruise : Be flexible with your schedule; heavy fog might mean you’re asked to delay your arrival at the terminal until the prior cruise can disembark and the terminal/parking lots can empty.
  • On the last day of your Galveston cruise : Don’t book your flight back home too early; give yourself an extended buffer of a few hours in case your ship is delayed from docking due to fog. Better yet, plan to explore the city on your return day, spend the night at a hotel, then fly home the next day.

Airports for Galveston Cruises

Image of a jet parked at an airport terminal, with service vehicles and luggage bins nearby

The best way to get to the Port of Galveston is by plane (unless you’re close enough to drive).

Which Airport Should I Fly Into for a Galveston Cruise?

The two closest airports to the Port of Galveston are both located in Houston, Texas:

  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) — 72 miles from the Cruise Terminal
  • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) — 42 miles from the Cruise Terminal

What is the Best Way to Get from the Airport to Port Galveston?

Once at the airport, you’ll need a taxi, shuttle, or rideshare to reach the port. While you can rent a car at the airport, that is often more expensive than other options.

To ensure cost-effectiveness and convenience, travelers should plan their trips ahead of time. Those arriving at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) should allow at least 90 minutes to get to the cruise terminal. Those traveling from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) should dedicate at least 60 minutes to their drive. Shuttles may take longer.

How Much does an Uber Cost from the Houston Airport to Port Galveston?

The cost of an Uber varies greatly depending on the vehicle you choose and how far you travel. Here is an estimate of how much an Uber ride will cost from either George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) or William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) to the Disney Cruise Line terminal at the Port of Galveston.

Estimated cost of an Uber from IAH to Port of Galveston:

  • Uber X: $75
  • Uber XL: $143
  • Uber Black: $265

Estimated Cost of an Uber from HOU to Port of Galveston:

  • Uber X: $47
  • Uber XL: $88
  • Uber Black: $163

How Much are Taxis from the Houston Airport to Port Galveston?

Despite the convenience of Uber, taxis are an equally viable option to connect you to the Port of Galveston. The downside to taxis is that they can be slightly more expensive than comparable ridesharing options.

  • The estimated cost of a taxi from IAH to the Port of Galveston is $170.
  • The estimated cost of a taxi from HOU to the Port of Galveston is $103.

How Much are Shuttles from the Airport to the Port of Galveston and Galveston Hotels?

Shuttle service is a popular option to reach the port and its nearby hotels; shared shuttles can be a more cost-effective option than dedicated vehicles such as Uber, Lyft, or taxi. But they’re usually priced per-person, so larger groups might find it better to seek another option.

Official Disney Shuttles

Disney offers an official ground transportation service for $45 per person (one-way). This service should be reserved in advance with Disney Cruise Line or your Travel Agent.

The official Disney shuttles service these routes:

  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to/from Port of Galveston Cruise Terminal
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to/from San Luis Resort (when hotel is booked as part of cruise reservation)
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to/from Hilton Galveston Island (when hotel is booked as part of cruise reservation)

Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) is not served by the official Disney shuttles.

Unofficial Airport Shuttles

Galveston Express offers a third-party option which serves IAH and HOU airports, along with hotels on Galveston Island. Shuttle transportation from Houston to Galveston is available seven days a week between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. This shared shuttle transportation starts at around $40 per person (one-way), with senior and child discounts available.

Some choose to spend a day or two in town after their cruise so they can experience a bit of local flavor before heading home. If you want to stay over before or after your Disney cruise, many hotels are available near Port Galveston and the Houston Airports. Here’s a sampling:

Official Disney Pre/Post Cruise Hotels:

It is located within IAH airport, approximately 70 miles from cruise terminal. Transfers to the port are available for purchase (see Official Disney Shuttles above).
  • The San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center is located on 30 acres of beachfront property near downtown Galveston, offering stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. The hotel is approximately 3 miles away from the port.

Other Nearby Hotels:

  • The historic Tremont House Hotel (approximately 0.5 mile from cruise terminal) stands out with its rich history and its terrific location in the heart of downtown Galveston.
  • Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21 (approximately 0.5 mile from cruise terminal) offers well-appointed rooms overlooking the bay and excellent proximity to cruise ports, shopping, and dining.
  • For those looking for an option with modern amenities, the Grand Galvez , Wingate by Wyndham Galveston East Beach , DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Galveston Beach , and Clarion Pointe Galveston Seawall are excellent hotels near Port Galveston. They each offer a range of accommodations and are just steps away from shopping, dining, bars, and – most importantly – your Disney cruise ship waiting for you at Port Galveston.

The Classic Ships are 954 feet long – so not huge by present-day cruise ship standards.

The Disney Magic is a good first cruise ship to sail on as she is of a manageable size so you quickly learn your way around.

Disney Cruise Line always seems to impress me. I've been on 11 cruises with Disney Cruise Line and stayed a total of 67 nights onboard. I've never have had a major complaint with DCL, because whenever there is an issue onboard, they will take care of me the best way they can. It is really comforting to know how much the crew will try to comply with your requests. A common misconception is about DCL being for kids, which is wrong. It is meant for the whole family. They have super fun kids clubs for the kids and the adults can go to an 18+ year old show. Plenty of activities onboard the ship that you never feel bored. The food is really good onboard, the only thing I will say about it, is toward the end of a long cruise you get sick of the same options and eating too much. Which this is a problem on every cruise ship, and not specific to DCL. Themed dining does make it much more enjoyable. I also went on my favorite ship across the fleet on my most recent cruise, which happens to be the oldest one. It is smaller, so there is less people and crowds. It is similar to being at a Disney Park with barely anyone there. DCL is truly amazing. You can drastically tell the Disney difference onboard it compared to other cruise lines. I highly recommend trying it.

Disney Magic!!

Be carful of hidden fees. There are no convenience stores on board. You want a Gatorade in the middle of the night, oh well. Want a bag of chips, oh well. You tip your server extra from the 18% already added... they will give you another tip fee on the last day worth hundreds of dollars. Want to go to a theatre for a show other than a Disney movie, oh well. Want to stay a little late at a bar/grill, oh well. The one amazing thing is that every single solitary person I came across on board was delightful. I'd never do Disney again, but they have certainly selected great workers.

We set sail from Galveston on a 4-night Disney cruise in January 2024- No regret at all! As Disney Cruise Line's first vessel, the Magic is small and feels kinda old, but small and old doesn't mean bad! We indeed had a wonderful time on the Magic! Food was great. All crew members were happy, friendly and accommodating. Our Verandah stateroom was on the 7th floor, within walking distance to the Cabanas buffet and the pool deck where the free self-service beverage bars and other fast food places were located on the 9th floor. The elevators were slow and small- people would just walk up and down the flights of stairs. All 3 of the main dining rooms on board- Lumiere's, Rapunzel's Royal Table, and Animator's Palate were very nice, and our server, Kamel, and his helper, Angelia, who rotated with us were amazing and the best! The personalized service made us feel like being treated like family! Lots of onboard activities and entertainment for kids- the kids clubs, the Broadway-style shows, character greetings, the swimming pools and water play areas, etc. My four- and seven-year-old girls sure did have a busy schedule every day while aboard. We are soooooo looking forward to our next Disney cruise vacation- the Wish or the Treasure would be awesome!

We had an amazing time on the Disney Magic!! Make sure you arrive to the port terminal at your boarding time or you will have to wait. Porters are available to take your luggage to your stateroom for you. Download the DCL navigator app ahead of time and bring your online check-in form and boarding documents for security. Don't forget that adults can carry on 2 bottles of wine or a 6 pack of beer. As soon as we boarded the ship we went to guest services to load money on to our stateroom account (we buy gift cards ahead of time) - highly recommend buying them at a discount from Sam's club or target to help with cost. Each days activities and dining info will be listed in the app. Remember that room service is available 24/7! Highlights from this cruise were palo brunch, the art of the theme walking tour, bingo, hot stone massage at senses spa, dinner at animator's palate, the anyone can cook culinary series, and the Disney dreams show. My partner also enjoyed the alcohol tastings on board. Luckily we were still able to have fireworks for the pirate party even though it was windy out. One of the biggest contributors to our positive experience on the ship were the staff! We loved our stateroom host, Made, from Indonesia who provided us with turndown service twice a day, and made us beautiful towel animals every night. Our server team, Romy from India and Juviani from Brazil, were incredibly efficient and made sure we had everything we needed for dinner. We had a few issues with our room and guest services addressed it right away and were very helpful. The Disney Magic is the original ship and is still so beautiful and well maintained! The art deco theme throughout is stunning and you really get the feel that you are on a classic ship. The trip was truly so wonderful! The only con was that we couldn't dock in Progreso due to the weather and high waves, however, the priority of safety was much appreciated and we still had a fun day at sea. With the stormy sea, we did experience some rocking the last two nights. If you are prone to motion sickness I recommend getting a room midship and with a verandah so you can get fresh air. If you're a Disney fan or just want the best when it comes to service, try Disney cruise line!

We just had an incredible four night adventure on the Disney Wonder! I was blown away by how amazing this entire experience was and highly recommend DCL to anyone who loves Disney that is looking to be pampered and treated like royalty. The experience starts with you being greeted warmly in the terminal at Galveston and as soon as you walk on the ship your family name is announced! You don't even need to take your luggage in by yourself! Disney delivers it straight to your stateroom for you! On embarkation day you are free to explore the ship which is like a horizontal skyscraper with multiple restaurants, a sports deck, movie theater, bars and lounges, shopping and of course your stateroom! We opted for an ocean view with private verandah room on deck 6 midship. We loved our stateroom! It was wonderful to watch the sunrise/sunset from our own balcony. The bed was so soft and comfortable and I love that they have a separated shower/sink and toilet/sink set up for the restroom. The room has so much storage space and even comes with a mini fridge and a TV with Disney movies on demand! Our stateroom host was excellent! He went above and beyond normal housekeeping by folding and hanging up our clothes, organizing our belongings, making towel animals for us and even leaving chocolate surprises on our pillows before bed. Each night on DCL you are assigned a different themed restaurant to eat in and your server team rotates with you. We enjoyed all three restaurants: Animator's palate, Tiana's place and Triton's. My personal favorite was Triton's which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day! The menus each night were varied, inventive and yummy! I enjoyed something from every meal and our thoughtful servers made sure we had everything we needed for an excellent meal each time. Highlights for me were the beef satay skewers and king salmon at Triton's, and the caramel macadamia nut cheesecake from Tiana's on pirate night! You definitely don't want to miss Animator's palate and Tiana's which have live entertainment while you eat. And if the three restaurants weren't enough they also had a buffet and fast casual food like hamburgers, pizza, and French fries on deck 9 near the pool. Don't forget the unlimited soft serve at Eye Scream and the free room service! We ordered room service several times and each time our food came quickly as requested. Pro tip - it's not on the menu but you can ask for Mickey bars! On the ship there are so many activities to keep everyone busy. There are programs for everyone from kids, adults and families to enjoy. Each days activities are featured in the daily navigator available on the cruise line app, in paper format at guest services and on your stateroom TV. The captain and cruise director also make announcements to keep everyone in the loop. Highlights for me were the Art of the theme walking tour, bingo, watching Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker in the movie theater, officer pin trading and the Pirates in the Caribbean deck party complete with fireworks! We also greatly enjoyed the live theater shows that they have every night! Our favorites were Frozen and the Golden Mickeys. Everything from the music, costumes and elaborate sets makes you feel like you are watching a play on broadway! In true Disney fashion every staff member we encountered was courteous, helpful and welcoming! We were greeted throughout the day while walking around the ship and the atmosphere is so full of joy! You might think that a Disney Cruise is just for kids, but it's not! Yes there are a lot of kids. However there are also several adult only areas including quiet cove swimming pool and hot tubs, the spa and fitness center, as well as a cafe and bar that are exclusive to adults. If you want to get even more exclusive you can elect to dine in the 18+ restaurant Palo that serves an Italian Thebes brunch and dinner (at an extra charge). There are also activities just for adults including trivia and even dance parties. As you can tell, I had a phenomenal experience on Disney Cruise Line. Bottom line if you are a Disney fan you need to do it. You will love it! Last tip: book your cruise through Small World Vacations for on board credit! We were able to get $100 just for booking with them!

My family just returned from our 1st cruise & we set the bar high by choosing Disney Cruise Line (DCL), which leaves from Galveston for a few months each year. Spoiler-alert: we had a great time & will be on another DCL trip as soon as we can afford it. Living in Austin, we either need to make a long drive or take on the added expense of flying to a coastal port. Galveston was the obvious choice, and of the 3 outfits sailing from there, only DCL met our needs. While we're not extreme Disney fans, we're pros at doing the theme park routine & there is no comparison when it comes to Disney's idea of hospitality. We knew if we ever overcame our aversion to the potential perils of cruising, it would be DCL that won our cash. Going with DCL means that you'll pay more than with other lines but you'll deal with less people, fewer service snafus, & a pristine environment at all times. We found all of this during our week-long Caribbean cruise in January 2020 & were satisfied enough to put down a deposit on our next one before we left the ship. Before departure, there is much to decide. After reserving a guaranteed verandah stateroom (a lower cost option in which DCL picks our final room, but it will have a private outdoor space), we could join the online groups for our dates, start to meet people, & gain intel from pro DCL cruisers on how everything works. Just as in planning a Disney Parks vacay, insider tips help with understanding the flow, what activities are good for which family members, & how to minimize frustration. We had to decide whether we'd do a "fish extender" group (a kind of "secret Santa;" we instead did a relaxed version called "pixie dusting"), whether to decorate our door (we did, w/ a low-effort array from teacher supplies), & whether to reserve extras like adult-only dining or DCL excursions at ports-of-call. We found that senior cruisers ("Castaway Club" members) and those with Concierge-level rooms had filled up any of the extras we wanted before we even bought our cruise. This was a bummer, but we found alternatives. For dining at Palo (the only extra cost dining on the Wonder, one of the smaller ships), we had to go to the listed location as soon as we boarded the ship to request our brunch reservation, obtained without issue. It seems that DCL holds a few slots back, in addition to those released when the senior cruisers cancel. For excursions, since we're familiar w/ both ports of call from past trips (Cozumel & Grand Cayman), we opted to do our own thing, visiting lesser known snorkeling beaches where we expected few cruisers to venture. Onboard, adults found enjoyment in pursuits like enjoying free room service on our verandah, running laps on the 1 third of a mile oceanview track, using the gym & locker room at the spa, chilling in the adults-only Quiet Cove whirlpool & deck areas, & visiting some of the lounges for a cocktail-of-the-day. Our son loved the teen & tween clubs (Vibe & Edge) where he made several new friends, played video games, & joined group activities. Together, we took in a few first-run films in the theaters, watched one of the Broadway-style shows, laughed at a few live game shows, & attended a couple deck parties featuring most of the classic Disney faces. Speaking of characters, if you really love Disney, you will have ample opportunity (scheduled almost every hour, 8:30a - 10:30p daily) to meet & have a pic taken with your favorites. We saw almost every princess, all the OG mouse-dog-duck-chipmunk guys, Captain Hook & Smee, & a few newer ones like Stitch, Vampirina, Fancy Nancy, & Captain Jack Sparrow. We never waited in line at any of the scheduled photo ops, but I still managed to get a pic with Goofy when he appeared on Deck 4 during one of my A.M. runs. Would this even be a Yelp review if I didn't talk about food? DCL has a system in which you rotate through the 3 family-dining spots, assigned to either 1st (5:45p) or 2nd (8:15p) seatings at a reserved table (which may be shared with another group). Service was great & food was fine, but we didn't like 2nd seating. By that hour, we're too tired to really enjoy the drawn out pace of a 4-course meal & themed show that kept going until almost 10p. Next time, we'll reserve early enough to get the 1st seating; if not, we'll go to guest services upon boarding to request a switch. BTW, rotational dining is included in the cost of your cruise & you can ask for as much of the menu as you wish, so if you wanna try one of everything, go for it! Just know that the portions are often large. I always felt stuffed & worried about all the waste. We preferred the excellent buffet at Cabanas (available before 5p, except for one late night buffet on Pirate Night). With that & the 4-5 other walk-up options, we had freedom to come & go, adding food we wanted to our plates. All of these are also included in the base cost. Next time, we'll opt-out of some of the repeated rotational dinings for the walk-ups.

Disney Magic

The 2,713-passenger Disney Magic is the oldest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet (it first launched in 1998). It was last refurbished in May 2023, when it received updates like a "Soul"-themed lounge, concierge-level upgrades and a new "Encanto" live show. The ship also features family favorites such as the AquaDuck waterslide, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique dress-up shop and Edge, an interactive game center for tweens.

Recent cruisers gave the food quality mixed reviews.

In terms of lodging, 70% of cabins offer ocean views or verandas. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, sitting areas and bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. This show is very popular, so it's best to get to the theater about an hour before the show starts to get a good seat. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime. – Megan duBois, Contributor

The best cruises from Galveston for every type of traveler

Gene Sloan

What are the best cruises from Galveston, Texas? I've been on nearly all the cruise ships that sail out of the fast-growing cruise port (and visited all the places they go), and I know which one I would pick: a seven-night sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Prima.

I'm a big fan of the 20-month-old Norwegian Prima's stylish design and upscale feel, and I love its luxurious Haven suite complex. It also offers a solid itinerary out of Galveston that visits several of my favorite ports in the Western Caribbean.

That said, a seven-night Norwegian Prima sailing out of Galveston isn't necessarily the best Galveston cruise for you.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Whether you'll have a better time on one of the other cruise ships that regularly sail out of Galveston will depend a lot on the type of traveler you are. The best ship for a family cruise out of Galveston might not be the top pick for a couples cruise or girlfriend getaway.

Nearly a dozen ships currently set sail from Texas. Here we list our top picks for the best cruises from Galveston for five different types of travelers.

Best for families: Harmony of the Seas

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

Looking for the best family cruise from Galveston? It's hard to go wrong with a sailing on Royal Caribbean 's giant Harmony of the Seas.

Designed specifically to appeal to families, the world's fourth-largest cruise vessel offers more family-friendly activity zones than just about any other cruise ship at sea.

Thanks partly to its enormous size — it's 18 decks high and nearly 1,200 feet long — the 5,479-passenger Harmony of the Seas has room for three separate main pool areas, a water park, a kiddie splash zone, surfing simulators, a miniature golf course, a basketball court and even a zip line. And that's just on its top decks.

Inside Harmony of the Seas, you'll find all sorts of family attractions, including counselor-staffed play areas for kids, a teen club and an indoor ice skating rink. The ship also has lots of family-friendly performances, such as ice skating shows at the rink and acrobatic and diving performances at an outdoor "Aquatheater." At the back of the ship, a New Jersey boardwalk-themed fun zone features rock climbing walls and a hand-carved carousel.

In short, whether you have toddlers in tow or command a troop of teens and tweens, you'll find all sorts of activities to keep them squealing with delight — more than on any other ship that sails out of Galveston, including Disney Cruise Line's family-focused Disney Magic.

Related: The ultimate guide to Royal Caribbean cruise ships and itineraries

Harmony of the Seas sails out of Galveston every Sunday on seven-night voyages to the Western Caribbean. The ship stops at Roatan, Honduras, and Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico.

Harmony of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean's groundbreaking Oasis Class vessels , which are among the biggest and most amenity-filled ships in the world.

In addition to Harmony of the Seas, Royal Caribbean operates two smaller vessels out of Galveston: the 3,344-passenger Mariner of the Seas and the 2,110-passenger Jewel of the Seas. The former ship mostly sails four- and five-night trips to Mexico, while the latter vessel sails longer voyages to the Southern and Western Caribbean.

Best for Disney fans: Disney Magic

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

As noted above, our pick for the best family cruises out of Galveston are the sailings available on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas. But we say that with one big caveat. If your family is Disney-obsessed and you can't imagine a vacation that isn't infused to the extreme with all things Disney, there is only one choice for your Galveston-based cruise: a voyage on Disney Magic .

Based in Galveston seasonally from November to March, Disney Magic offers the best cruises out of the city for Disney fans. It is, for the record, the only Disney Cruise Line ship that sails from Galveston.

Disney Magic isn't a new ship. It dates to 1998 and is the oldest cruise ship regularly sailing out of Galveston. That said, it still feels modern thanks to major makeovers in recent years.

One overhaul to Disney Magic not too long ago brought such cutting-edge features as the AquaDunk — a 37-foot-tall body slide that careens over the side of the vessel — and a new outdoor kiddie fun zone called AquaLab.

Disney Magic is also home to multiple pool areas and indoor children's zones that cover almost an entire deck, plus multiple themed restaurants that Disney fans will love. (In Disney Cruise Line tradition, passengers — and their waiters — rotate each night among three main restaurants.) The ship also has a large showroom for nightly Disney-themed shows.

Like all Disney ships, Disney Magic has many cabins with split bathrooms — a boon for families. That's not something you'll find on any of the other Galveston-based cruise vessels.

If you've tried Disney's newer Disney Wish or two Dream Class ships (Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream), you will notice that the 1,754-passenger Disney Magic is noticeably smaller — about 42% smaller than Disney Wish and 35% smaller than the Dream Class ships. That results in fewer and smaller attractions than the other vessels. On the flip side, it has a much more intimate feel on board.

Related: The 3 types of Disney Cruise Line ships, explained

Disney Magic sails a mix of four- to six-night voyages from Galveston to Mexico. Four-night voyages typically visit Progreso, Mexico, while five-night sailings add a stop in Cozumel. Six-night sailings typically visit Cozumel and Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

Fares for off-peak sailings on Disney Magic often start at more than $1,000 per person for a four-night trip — significantly higher on a per-night basis than the lowest-cost sailings on many of the other ships sailing out of Galveston.

In other words, you'll pay a premium for that Disney magic.

Best for budget travelers: Carnival Breeze

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Breeze is the Galveston-based ship to pick when you're looking for a quick and affordable getaway — something that isn't a big commitment and won't break the bank.

Based in Galveston year-round, the 12-year-old vessel operates short four- and five-night voyages to the Western Caribbean that are often on sale for under $500 per person. For off-peak travel, we sometimes see five-night sailings for sale for around $400 per person — or just $80 a night. This is a third of the cost of similar five-night sailings on Disney Magic.

Remember, the rates for Carnival Breeze mentioned above are not just for your room but for meals on the ship, too.

For would-be Galveston cruisers, Carnival Breeze serves as a sort of "test the port" ship. Its short sailings and low pricing mean you won't lose a lot of time or money if you don't love the experience. It caters heavily to first-time cruisers, as well as Texas locals and Southerners who can book on short notice and drive to the port for a quick escape.

One of three ships in the line's Dream Class that date to the late 2000s and early 2010s, the 3,690-passenger Carnival Breeze is no longer the newest or snazziest ship in the Carnival fleet. At around 130,000 tons, it's about 29% smaller than Carnival's newer Excel Class ships and has fewer bars, restaurants and entertainment spaces.

Related: The 8 types of Carnival Cruise Line ships, explained

That said, Carnival Breeze still has a huge amount to offer for all sorts of travelers, from couples to families with kids. The ship was, notably, the first Carnival ship to feature a 4D "thrill theater" and one of the first Carnival ships with a ropes course — attractions that appeal heavily to teens and tweens.

Carnival Breeze also offers a water park with waterslides on its top decks, a miniature golf course, a sports court for basketball and volleyball, and multiple pools.

Interior venues on Carnival Breeze include a comedy club, a piano bar, a casino and a showroom for big production shows. The dining options are similar to what you'll find on many Carnival ships, including an extra-charge steakhouse and Italian eatery, Cucina Del Capitano, as well as no-extra-charge main restaurants. It also has a sushi restaurant and a version of Carnival's Caribbean-inspired watering hole, RedFrog Pub.

Most Carnival Breeze sailings out of Galveston stop at Cozumel, with some adding a stop at Costa Maya and Progreso as well.

Carnival has two other vessels based year-round in Galveston: Carnival Jubilee and Carnival Dream. Both ships operate longer, generally more expensive sailings. Carnival Jubilee mostly sails seven-night trips out of Galveston, while Carnival Dream alternates between six- and eight-night voyages out of the Texas port.

Best for luxury lovers: Norwegian Prima

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

None of the luxury-focused cruise lines, such as Silversea Cruises or Seabourn Cruise Line , sail out of Galveston. Still, you can get a luxury cruise experience on a voyage from Galveston by sailing on the one mainstream vessel based in the city that has a separate "ship-within-a-ship" luxury zone: Norwegian Cruise Line 's new Norwegian Prima .

Hands down, the 3,099-passenger ship offers the best Galveston cruises for luxury lovers.

Unveiled in 2022, Norwegian Prima was the first of a new class of Norwegian vessel that the line designed to be "elevated," in its words, as compared to earlier Norwegian ships. That is, it was designed to be more upscale.

The high-end turn included loading Norwegian Prima with an unusually large variety of suites (13 categories in all), including what the line said was the largest three-bedroom suites of any recently unveiled cruise vessel. If it's swanky digs you're after (and you have the money to spend), you'll find plenty of options on this ship.

Notably, the entire back of Norwegian Prima is devoted to an upscale luxury enclave for well-heeled travelers called The Haven. Rising eight decks high, it's home to 107 of the above-mentioned suites, a sprawling private indoor lounge area, private outdoor lounge and pool areas, and a private restaurant — all exclusively for the use of those who pay up for one of its suites.

Related: The best luxury cruise lines for elegance and exclusivity

Outside of The Haven, the entire ship has a more elegant feel than you'll find on other Norwegian ships. It has an atmosphere more in line with the ships in the fleets of Norwegian's higher-end sister brands, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises — albeit on a bigger scale.

Alas, Norwegian Prima only is based in Galveston seasonally for the winter, typically from January to March. For 2025, it'll offer seven-night sailings to the Western Caribbean with calls in Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Harvest Caye, Belize. It'll also operate two longer 14-night Caribbean sailings.

Best for retirees: Regal Princess

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

Looking for a cruise out of Galveston that isn't full of families with children? Look no further than the sailings out of the city on Princess Cruises ' Regal Princess.

Unlike the other major cruise ships that sail out of Galveston each year — operated by family-focused Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and Disney — Regal Princess wasn't built with families in mind as the core customer. As is the case with all Princess ships, it's geared toward middle-aged and older travelers without kids, including lots of retirees.

Notably, the 3,600-passenger Regal Princess lacks nearly all the gee-whiz attractions for families found on other ships that sail out of Galveston. You won't find big waterslides, kiddie splash zones, zip lines or go-kart tracks on this ship.

For the most part, the top decks of Regal Princess only offer pools, whirlpools and sunning areas, as is typical for Princess ships. As a result, it draws far fewer families than the vessels above and caters more to an older crowd of mostly couples.

Related: Best cruises for seniors who love to travel by sea

Regal Princess is based in Galveston on a seasonal basis from October to March. It operates some of the longest sailings from the Texas port, including 10- and 11-night trips to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Honduras, Belize and Mexico. It also occasionally offers a 12-night sailing to the Southern Caribbean. These sailings generally appeal to a retired crowd because they require a long time away from home.

The shortest sailings that the 11-year-old Princess ship operates out of Galveston are six nights in length.

Bottom line

Galveston offers a relatively wide range of cruise ships and itinerary choices. Five different cruise lines currently sail four- to 12-night Western Caribbean voyages and visit ports in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. A sixth line — MSC Cruises — will be starting up cruises from Galveston in 2025.

What is the best cruise from Galveston for you? That'll depend on your personal interests and travel style, as there are cruises from Galveston that appeal to everyone, including family travelers, budget travelers and retirees.

Disney Magic 6-night Galveston Cruise Review

Earning My Ears

  • Feb 13, 2023

We recently debarked a 6-night sailing from Galveston on the Disney Magic. I have cruised with Carnival, RCL, and NCL multiple times each in the last several years, but not DCL . This was my fiance's first Disney cruise ever, and my first since I was a kid. We traveled as a couple with no kids. As frequent cruisers with other lines but big Disney fans, here is my review. PRE-CRUISE Booking: We booked an IGT rate about 4 months out. We prefer to cruise 5 nights or longer, so finding this rate for a longer cruise on DCL pushed us to book. Online Check In: A NIGHTMARE compared to other cruise lines. On Carnival, NCL and RCL, when online check in opens you can select your port arrival time first, and come back to fill in guest info later. This normally takes less than 5 minutes to get the arrival time you want. With DCL, you have to fill all of your information in first before you can select a port arrival time. I was able to start inputting information for the first 5 minutes just fine, until the servers were so overloaded that nothing worked for upwards of 4 hours. In short, it took 5 hours to complete online check in and receive an 11am PAT and Boarding Group 2. If the other cruise lines that service 20 or more ships can fix this issue, Disney has no excuse. Pre Cruise Stay: We stayed at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort. I paid about $40 extra for a Park and Go rate. The shuttles require you to sign up for a time slot (9:15, 10:45 and 12:15 I believe). You have to move your car to another parking lot across the street before leaving for your cruise. We chose to move our car and Uber to the port rather than take the shuttle, as we wanted to leave a bit earlier. Port Check In: Smooth process, no issues. Older terminal but staff was very friendly and helpful. SHIP We loved this ship's design! It was the smallest ship we have sailed on in recent years, and it was very easy and quick to navigate. For the most part, everything was very clean and well-maintained. She has been kept in great condition over the years, and it shows. STATEROOM We had a standard inside stateroom (11B) with a sideways configuration. If you plan to stay in an inside cabin, I highly recommend the sideways stateroom layout. The room felt much more open and spacious than I expected. This was the most comfortable cruise ship bed I've slept on by far. We had an awesome room steward and great room service experience. DINING Cabanas: Food was definitely a step above other cruise line buffets. Service was great. Biggest complaint was on the last sea day, the crowds for breakfast were ridiculous. People lined up 20 minutes or more just to reach the food. Not the fault of the crew by any means, they went above and beyond trying to help the situation as best as possible, but I have never seen crowds like that in a cruise ship buffet before. Quick service options: Food was good, almost never a wait at any of the locations unlike on some other cruise lines. Disney could stand to improve the quality of their pizza to that of Carnival and Royal. Main Dining Rooms: The food was mostly good, very good at times. However, we were surprisingly disappointed with our serving team experience. It could have partly been that they seemed so busy constantly, but they did not seem to try to get to know us very well. Our main server struggled to understand us at times, but the assistant server was better. We have always loved our serving teams on other cruises, but we were somewhat disappointed on this cruise. The head server felt more like a manager than a server, he came by nightly to say hello, briefly mention the next day's weather and left. ENTERTAINMENT Production Shows: The three production shows were all top-notch in talent and production quality! The only cruise line that comes close in quality of production shows to me is NCL, but Disney is now my favorite of all cruise lines I've sailed with. They had a ventriloquist and a magician on board, but we did not attend those shows. Dinner Shows: Also great Trivia/animation classes: Very fun! Character Meet n' Greets: We did plenty of character experiences, Spider-Man was my personal favorite. However, be prepared for the lines, especially on full cruises. People will start queuing for characters 30 minutes or more BEFORE the scheduled time for the most popular characters. For shorter cruises with less character meeting times, or for popular characters only meeting once or twice per cruise, or to meet the Mouse himself, you could be waiting 45 minutes to an hour in line if you do not show up early. PORTS Cozumel: We took a taxi to Mr Sanchos for the day. Despite the ocean and pools being cold, we had a great experience! Drinks and food were very good. Costa Maya: We stayed on the ship this day. 4 ships in port (15,000+ people), and the massive crowds were visible from the ship. DEBARKATION We had a later assigned breakfast time (8:15am). The line to get off the ship looked awful when we got to the atrium, but after leaving breakfast, it took us only 20 minutes to get from the ship's atrium to the ride share area of the port. SUMMARY Overall, this was one of our favorite cruises we have taken together! The issues we faced were very, very minor. The Disney Magic does a great job at spreading guests out for the most part. We only noticed very large crowding for characters, before theater shows, and on the last sea day when the temperatures outside were much lower than previous days, the inside activities got very crowded. The Disney experience felt much more enjoyable on this cruise than in the theme parks in recent years, which we really appreciated. We will definitely be cruising with Disney again!

Do you remember what the other MDR menus were besides pirate night and the 3 regular dining room specific menus? We’re on a 6 night out of NOLA next month and I’m curious which menus we will have.

I agree about online check in. The system crashed on us this weekend after entering all our info it never let us select a PAT. Called guest services the next morning and got the answer of multiple ships are checking in so the system is overloaded, just keep checking in. Really? How come other cruise lines somehow manage online checkin with larger and more numerous ships? Our NCL cruise this summer took maybe 5 minutes to check in

On the six night in the MDRs did you have the pirate night menu any night? I did a six-night a long time ago, and think I remember that each restaurant had 2 unique menus and there was no pirate menu (not a fan of the pirate menu). We're doing the six-night out of Galveston next January.

Thank you so much for this review! We sail on the Magic in April and I am glad to hear she looks good before her dry dock. I think we are the 2nd to last sailing before that so I fear she will be ragged! But I know DCL cares for their ships and that shows.

Cruises Out Of Galveston: What Is Available And Which To Choose

When it comes to picking a type of vacation, it can be difficult. Not only do you need to choose a destination (or two), you have to decide how you will see that destination. Many people decide to drive or fly to their chosen vacation spot, but what about a cruise?

Cruises are great options for travel and relaxation. And there are dozens and dozens of cruise options. Choosing a cruise can be overwhelming with so many options and different prices – not to mention port stops, activities, and excursion choices. When we went on a cruise it took me several weeks to narrow down the ship, ports, and cabin we wanted.

Man and woman pose for a picture with a dock and cruise ship in the background.

Best Cruises Out of Galveston

  • Best Cruise Line for First-Time Cruises:: Royal Caribbean
  • Best Cruise Line for Couples with Children: Disney
  • Most Affordable Cruise Line: Carnival

Cruise Lines Out of Galveston

Galveston, Texas is one of the busiest cruise ports in the U.S. – and for good reason. The hustle and bustle of this quaint port town means visitors have many different options for cruise lines.

Currently, there are 3 cruise lines that you can take from Galveston: Royal Caribbean, Disney, and Carnival.

Royal Caribbean

Our top pick for someone cruising for the first time from Galveston is Royal Caribbean. The ships are packed with amenities, the food is high quality, and they have a large selection of itineraries. Royal Caribbean cruises out of Galveston tend to be middle-of-the-road, but we have seen great promotions that make them more affordable.

Royal Caribbean Ships out of Galveston

Royal Caribbean has 3 ships that sail out of Galveston: Liberty of the Seas, the Adventure of the Seas, and the Enchantment of the Seas. All three ships are run by the same company, but each one offers cruise travelers different amenities, experiences, and adventures.

Liberty of the Sea

The largest is Liberty of the Sea. When built in 2007 she was the largest cruise ship in the world. That made for plenty of room for water slides, a Flowrider, an ice skating rink, a sports court, multiple pools and hot tubs, and much more. The Liberty of the Sea only does 7-day itineraries but goes to. multiple locations.

The Enchantment of the Sea and Adventure of the Seas have several attractions as well and sail for 4 or 5-night cruises to various locations.

Disney Cruises

Disney cruises are known for making a cruise seamless for passengers and catering to children. While the food may be underwhelming, you rotate through 3 different dining rooms, each with their own show. Overall, Disney has a strong reputation for being an amazing cruise line and is more expensive than others.

The Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder is home to 11 decks overflowing with restaurants, pools, recreation, and more. The ship was refurbished in 2017 which brought new amenities and entertainment including Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.

There are 10 family areas, six youth clubs including a Marvel universe, and seven adult-only areas. Cabins range from interior cabins to large suites with tubs and split bathrooms. Nurseries are available for babies as young as 6 months.

Disney Itineraries Out of Galveston

Sometimes it can be difficult to imagine a cruise trip – especially for people who have never traveled on one before. It’s a good idea to get an idea of the itinerary for the ship before embarking. Here are a few itineraries for some of the Disney cruises out of Galveston.

  • For a 4 night cruise, the ship spends the first day at sea heading to Cozumel. Day 3 is spent at port from 8:30-4:45. Day 4 is at sea, returning to Galveston. Prices start around $1000 per person
  • A 5 night cruise will take you to Costa Maya after a full day at sea followed by a stop in Cozumel before returning to Galveston.
  • There are two 6-night cruise options. A Western Caribbean cruise will take you to Cozumel and George Town on Grand Cayman. The 6-night Very Merrytime Bahamian Cruise will go to Key West and Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas.
  • The 7-night cruises on the Disney Wonder go to Nassau, Castaway Cay, and Key West or Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth. With 7 nights, these cruises provide the most variation.

Carnival Cruises

Carnival cruise line is the largest in the world and has 3 ships that sail out of Galveston. Overall the Carnival cruises tend to be the most affordable, but they still aren’t lacking much. The basic cabins are the largest in the industry and the ships tend to be packed with fun attractions.

Carnival Vista is a newer huge ship with pools, splash pads, an IMAX theater, water slides, mini golf, Skyride, a gaming area, fitness areas, a ropes course, and more. There are tons of food options for lunch that are complementary and there are several entertainment options throughout the day.

The Carnival Vista has 7-night cruises leaving Galveston. For 4-8 day cruises you can look into the Carnival Freedom and Dream.

Lessons From Our First Caribbean Cruise

Cruising is a totally different way to travel. Some of the tried and true standbys of other forms of travel don’t work on a cruise ship. This may seem intimidating, but it we found it to be exciting and actually a little more relaxing in some cases. But there are still a few things to keep in mind.

Here are some of the lessons – the good and the challenging – from our first Caribbean cruise.

Benefits to Cruising

Dan and I travel quite a bit. We really like to engulf ourselves in new places and really experience the food, culture, and sites. Since the majority of time on a cruise is spent on the ship, this type of travel is a bit different. From our experience, here are some reasons you might consider booking that trip.

Cost Effective

First, cruises are a very cost-effective way to travel if you find a good deal. With food, lodging, and most transportation included it’s really simple from a planning perspective. Being able to come back to the same room every night meant no repacking and unpacking throughout the trip.

Stress-Free Packing

Packing for the cruise itself was less stressful as well. Since we didn’t have to go through airport security, we packed 2 full-size suitcases, a carry-on, and a few smaller bags for port days.

Easy Planning

Planning a cruise is very easy to plan.  This is one of the main reasons we took a cruise. We were pretty busy but knew we wanted to take a trip. Since you only have to plan your port day activities before you go, the time it takes to plan a cruise is minimal.

A New Level of Relaxation

Most of all, cruises are ultra relaxing. With beautiful views, amazing onboard amenities, and no internet access, we were able to completely unplug and get a real vacation in. (No post-trip exhaustion!)

Things to Consider Before Booking a Cruise

While taking a cruise has some serious benefits, there are still a few things that could give you pause. In our experience, there were some parts of the trip that might be of note if you’re on the fence about jumping on a cruise.

Seeing the Sights

Cruising is not a great way to explore new cultures and places. Cruising is basically an extended boat trip where you get off for a few hours every few days.

We didn’t mind this, and as I mentioned above, it’s very relaxing. But in most cases, we were left wanting to see more of the ports than we were able to. This is probably why the majority of veteran cruisers we met don’t even bother getting off the boat on port days.

Additionally, we were able to get a room on a higher deck that put us close to everything. One heads up though, our beds were particularly hard, and I heard that some of the more expensive rooms had upgraded beds.

Demographics

The demographic of our ship was heavily in the 80-and-older category. Cruises are a fabulous way for older people to travel since they’re so relaxed and accommodating. One couple we met had been on almost 50 cruises, but most we met had been on at least 25.

We found this to be delightful and absolutely loved getting to know everyone. However, it heavily influenced the entertainment on board. The headlining comedian on our ship told so many “young people today are so stupid” jokes. It was actually entertaining watching the older people crack up laughing, but we eventually decided to spend our time elsewhere.

I imagine there are other ships with different demographics – a Disney cruise would attract families, and shorter weekend cruises may attract more of the partying crowd. The older demographic was perfect for us since we’re not partiers, we don’t have kids, and it meant most of the water attractions were never busy.

Tips for Cruises out of Galveston

If you decide to book a cruise out of Galveston, then you’ll want to have a few tips in mind. Not all cruise ships or cruise lines are the same, and you want to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you start the process of researching and booking your cruise out of Galveston.

Research Your Ship

Your ship’s amenities can have an impact on how much you enjoy your cruise. When we were looking at cruises, we realized the shorter cruises had smaller ships. This meant fewer water slides, a small gym and fewer pools.

We were attracted to the Liberty of the Sea because of the adult pool area, water slides, gym, dining options and most importantly for Dan, the Flowrider.

Three people surfing on a surf simulator on a cruise ship.

Drinking Water

We packed 24 bottles of water in our luggage since we weren’t sure about the water situation on board, and I’m glad we did. The ship charged $5 a bottle, though all of our excursions handed them out for free. There was plenty of water available in restaurants and poolside, just not for taking on the go.

Bring a Lanyard

A smart way to keep track of your room key is to put it on a lanyard. When you check-in, they’ll issue your card and can punch a hole in it for you. You can then buy branded or sparkly lanyards to carry it on.

Next time, we’ll bring a lanyard from home, so we don’t have to carry the card in our pockets or shell out $20 for a rhinestone-studded lanyard we’ll never use again.

Dan and I are light sleepers. At home, we sleep with a fan on to help moderate temperature and for a bit of white noise. We brought a small fan on board, which was really nice. That being said, the rooms were pretty quiet on their own.

Consider Time of Year

We chose a 7-day cruise during the shoulder season. Not as many children are able to get off 5 full days of school in February and March, which is probably why the majority of our cruise catered to an older demographic.

Don’t Worry So Much About What To Wear

As we were packing for the cruise, I was really daunted by all the different dress codes I was expected to be prepared for; “casual,” “smart casual” and “formal.” Just how formal is formal? What does “smart casual” mean?

Luckily, the internet is full of information about what each of these meant for different cruise lines. Since we didn’t have to limit our baggage, I packed 3 dressed that could pass for Royal Caribbean’s Formal Night standards.

We quickly realized once on board that these dress codes are to be taken very loosely. Some people were in tuxes and ball gowns, but the majority of women wore cocktail dresses or dress pants. No one was turned away and no one really cared if you walked in wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

I only ended up wearing 4 types of shoes: flip flops for poolside, heels for formal night, sneakers for the gym and excursions, and a pair of slip-ons for walking around the ship.

Dan had one pair of vans, dress shoes and flip flops for his feet with t-shirts, polos and a suit.  He mostly wore anything with a collar to dinner and pants until later in the cruise he wore shorts one night and did not feel out of place.

Plan for Sea Sickness

Though our ship was actually fairly steady and we didn’t have any sea sickness issues, we came prepared. Since Dan has had issues with seasickness in the past, we purchased every kind of medication we could find, drowsy, non-drowsy, chewable , an oil to put behind our ear, and bracelets that push on pressure points.

We used everything but the bracelets whenever there was a bit of turbulence and never had a problem. You don’t want to be caught on a rocky ship when they run out of supplies on deck!

Prebooking Cruise Amenities

Leading up the cruise, we were sent regular emails asking us to book services available onboard.  There were promises of discounts compared to prices on board, but I found the pricing online confusing so we only booked one reservation at for “half off” dining the first night of the cruise.

I was a little worried our options would be limited and prices would go up once we got on board, but that was not an issue.  First, our half-off dinning was not really half off so we canceled that. The spa treatments were always available and the pricing was fixed on board where it varied online based on when you booked your appointment.

A few things were actually more expensive online than onboard, so feel free to wait till you get onboard to book anything.

Booking Excursions

As you plan your trip you have to decide to book excursions through your cruise or with a local tour company.  If you book with your cruise you will pay more, but it will be stress-free when you get to the port.  The ship makes it very easy to find your tour group and you won’t have to walk much.

If you book with an independent tour company, you will need to do your own research, find your tour operator at the port, and likely have to walk further to get to them. The big difference is you will save money booking your tours independently of your cruise.

One Last First Timer Heads Up

On your first day on-ship, there will be mandatory safety training. Ours was loud and chaotic. The stress was mostly due to the large crowds of people trying to get to their assigned location, not to mention the instruction speakers on board were set to full volume.

Based on that experience alone I was worried I’d hate the rest of the cruise, but am happy to report that once that was over, the rest of the trip was smooth sailing

About Our Cruise out of Galveston

It can be difficult to image different parts of a cruise without much experience, so it might be helpful to hear more specifics about our cruise out of Galveston. Here are a few details about different parts of our cruise – including a few of the ports we stopped in.

Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Sea Pools

Onboard Activities

The Liberty of the Sea was, at its creation in 2006, the largest ship available. It had so many activities for us to choose from. There were 3 water slides (we rode the boomerang-style tube slide multiple times each day!).

Dan enjoyed the flow rider, and we both tried the rock climbing wall. There was a large kid-specific water area, a general use pool, and an adult-only pool. With so much to do, we were always eager to get up and out in the morning!

Our ship had a great gym with lots of cardio and weight equipment. Each morning, I took a 2-mile run on the outdoor track overlooking the ocean, which was lovely. The ship offered fitness classes for an additional charge. There was also a nice day spa and sauna.

Tip : Don’t waste your time on the giveaways. Our first day on the ship, we entered a drawing to win $500 of spa credit. We soon learned that to win you had to attend an hour-long seminar and then stay present for the drawing. With so many other great things to explore on the trip, we decided it wasn’t worth it to stick around.

There were also advertisements to win another cruise. We found out this was done by winning a specific round of bingo. Buy-in started at $30 and by this time, knowing the demographics of the ship, we knew this wasn’t our game.

Meals and Drinks

Meals on the ship are generally included with the cost of the cruise, but you can pay extra for specific restaurants on board. We also packed our own snacks and water bottles. I’m very glad we did on both counts!

Water was readily available on the ship but only in cup form, so it was nice to have bottles to carry around. And you can never have enough snacks. Desserts on the ship were great but usually on the richer side, so when we had a hankering for sour gummy worms we were prepared.

Most mornings we had breakfast in the Windjammer, the buffet-style cafeteria. That way we weren’t waiting for service and could get on with our daily activities. The food quality wasn’t quite as high as dinner but still pretty good. Each morning, I had a fried egg or custom omelet, potatoes, fruit, and a bran muffin. We avoided the juices since they tended to be very watered down.

For our first lunch on board, we paid a bit more to eat at a steak house called Chops. We had some of our best dishes of the trip at that restaurant, and since lunch was half the price of dinner at that restaurant, it was a great deal. We ate our other lunches in the general dining room. This was when we got to meet some other really great (generally much older) couples. One lunch, we sat with 2 couples where the men were 90 years old, and one was a WWII vet!

For dinner, we chose flex dining, which means we could eat dinner whenever we wanted. At first, we made day-of reservations but soon learned that we never waited longer than 15 minutes just showing up and asking for a table.

The dinner menu was always good. Each menu included several appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The portion sizes were smaller than at a regular restaurant so we didn’t feel bad ordering as many of each as we wanted!

I had one of the best plates of lasagna I’ve ever eaten, and we usually topped off the night with at least 2 desserts. When that wasn’t enough, we found the Ben & Jerry’s shop and paid a little extra for a scoop.

Our Port Days

Port days are a great way to take a break from the ship and explore new places. These ports are bursting with activities and adventures, but remember getting off the ship is completely optional.

Roatán, Honduras

Couple in Roatán Honduras Beach

Our first port stop was a little island called Roatán, the least developed of the 3 ports we visited. Everyone we met was very kind, professional, and accommodating, including our driver, Eric. Eric showed us around town on the Best of Roatan tour , sharing a bit about life on the island.

We stopped a few times, once at a great souvenir shop with goods made by locals, and another time for a great view of the bay. Finally, we made it to the zip line facility.

Roatán Honduras Zipline Bridge Crossing

The team at Zipline Tour Roatán provided an incredible experience. After we had gotten comfortable on a few legs of the zip line, they helped us more adventurous folk to do a “superman” pose or even zipline upside-down!

On one of the last legs, they let Dan and I go at the same time. It was these extra efforts that really made this zip line experience stand out from others. We had a great time!

Capuchin Monkey on shoulder in Roatán Honduras

At the end of the tour, they let us hold a sloth! I thought my heart was going to burst. We also got to hold monkeys and toucans.

Eric found us again and drove us to a beach for some rest and relaxation. We ordered some food and played in the water a bit. Then we headed back to port with plenty of time to spare.

Costa Maya, Mexico

Having majored in Anthropology in college, one of my dreams was to visit some Mayan ruins. I expected that we would get to the ruins, walk around for 10 minutes, and head back. But our experience was way more than that.

Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about Mayan history and culture that I was in heaven. We walked through a number of different sites and structures, lasting around an hour and a half. They provided plenty of water, and time for pictures, and the guide let me pick his brain about what we were seeing.

Costa Maya Chacchoben Mayan Ruins

We had some extra time before we needed to be back on the ship, so we confided in our guide that we wanted to find a beach and some food. He connected us to a driver who, at no charge, dropped us off at an absolutely gorgeous beach, and recommended a great little restaurant where we had some of the best seafood of the trip.

We knew this was an additional treat since we overheard other taxi drivers charging tourist $60 for the same service we got for free! Not to worry, we tipped everyone we could. They were all so helpful.

Roatán Honduras Beach

Cozumel, Mexico

On our last port day, we went on an ATV tour we booked a tour with This Is Cozumel . This was my first time riding ATVs and was wary considering the stories I’ve heard of people really hurting themselves riding them. Our tour put safety first, and I never felt in danger at all. I had such a great time!

I honestly felt like a much safer Indiana Jones. I forgot to bring my sunglasses (don’t forget to bring your sunglasses!) and tour guides lent me a pair of goggles. They also had handkerchiefs for sale, but if you have your own I’d recommend it.

disney cruise out of galveston reviews

After riding for about 45 minutes, we made our way to a cavern of water. Everyone was invited to take a 25 ft jump into the sulfurous pool. I declined until right before we planned to leave. I looked over the edge of the cliff and suddenly it didn’t seem so scary. Jumping from the cliff was so fun, and the water was great! It was the kind of adventure you only usually see on episodes of The Bachelor.

We drove ATVs back to where we started and were then picked up by drivers and taken to another beach to go snorkeling. As we snorkeled, the guides brought in a bit of fish food so the gorgeous fish surrounded us, as a photographer took under water photos.

We never buy souvenir photos but we bought this one. Snorkeling lasted about an hour, and while we had the energy to go longer there wasn’t much left to see.

The guides then invited us to rinse off and take a dip in their gorgeous private pool overlooking the ocean! We ordered quesadillas and chips and guacamole and had the time of our lives recreating some of the onboard performances we saw.

This port day was probably my favorite since it was full of me trying new things (ATVs and jumping into cave water), and pretending to be really wealthy in a private beach-side pool with my friends.

After our last port stop, we had one day at sea before getting back to Texas. As we disembarked we had a pleasant surprise as my uncle was the agent who checked us coming back to the USA!

Overall, our first cruise was a success! The ship itself was full of amenities and entertainment, but we also enjoyed the trips to different ports. So, what gets you excited about booking a cruise? And which line will you try out?

11 Reason To Sail on Cruises From Galveston

I n no uncertain terms, a cruise port makes all the difference regarding your entire vacation. After all, the location of your departure sets the tone for your trip moving forward, determining which destinations you’ll reach once you’re on the high seas.

While specific destinations like Miami or Canaveral boast unique strengths, something might also be said for the Port of Galveston, Texas. A smaller port overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston may not be the largest or busiest destination from which to depart. Yet, there are plenty of amicable reasons to look into this idyllic Texan island for your next cruise-going experience.

1. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Offer Cruises From Galveston

Looking at it plainly, Galveston has three cruise terminals making up its port. In contrast, far larger alternatives, like the Port of Miami, have eleven terminals. Because of this, Galveston unfortunately cannot house many of the industry’s prestigious cruise lines. However, the port’s terminals support several large-scale cruise corporations, with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, MSC, and Disney Cruises departing from Galveston regularly.

2. The Nearby Cruise Destinations Are Well Worth It

Admittedly, inevitable drawbacks are attached to cruises from Galveston. Considering how much farther west it is than ports in Florida or along the East Coast, most cruise lines out of Galveston cannot travel to their company’s private islands as many are in the Eastern Caribbean. However, Galveston’s location along the Gulf of Mexico has its distinct perks, including ready access to the Western Caribbean and parts of South and Central America. Though some guests might regret losing a chance at CocoCay, it’s hard to be upset when trekking along the shores of Mexico, Honduras, or Belize.

3. It’s Easier To Navigate Than Larger Ports

There’s no simple answer when it comes to determining the total cost of cruises from Galveston over any other port in the U.S. Like most ports, the final cost of the cruise depends on numerous factors, including the time of year you’re sailing, the location of your cabin, and the cruise line you plan on traveling with. However, the convenience of navigating the port itself makes Galveston a perfect option for anyone new to cruise vacations. Avoiding the large-scale crowds and tedious boarding lines as other major ports, Galveston remains a hassle-free destination for most novice travelers out there.

Baby, It's Cold Outside! 12 Warm Destinations to Escape to This Winter

4. galveston is conveniently located in the central u.s..

Given Galveston’s distinct location in eastern Texas , it’s one of the most readily accessible ports for travelers across the U.S. Located in the heart of America, travelers from the Western U.S. will have just as easy time reaching it as vacationers from the Midwest or East Coast. After all, who wants to sit on a lengthy plane ride to reach their port of call? Also, Galveston lacks the same high value of traffic as Miami or other popular ports, making it relatively hassle-free to reach.

5. The Port Terminal Is Reasonably Close to the Airport

Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport is the closest airport to Galveston. Roughly 41 miles northwest of the port, travelers can easily navigate from the airport to their cruise terminal in under an hour. Galveston is also close to several major cities, making it an option, albeit a farther one, for anyone flying into Austin or Dallas. However, given Houston’s short driving distance to Galveston, William P. Hobby Airport is your best bet for air travel.

6. The Boarding Process Is Quick and Seamless

As mentioned above, Galveston doesn’t have the same volume of passengers flooding through its port as Miami, Canaveral, or Port Everglades. As a result, boarding a ship is comparatively tamer—especially since the port opened up its third and latest terminal in 2022. Having been constructed in the past two decades and carefully refurbished, these terminals are in fantastic shape, making the onboarding process much more efficient for vacationers. The terminals also come equipped with innovative new features, with Terminal 3 offering mobile check-in and state-of-the-art facial recognition devices.

7. There Are Plenty of Hotels Nearby

Another notable feature of Galveston is the number of hotels near the port. (Because let’s face it: what’s more accessible than simply waking up, hopping in your car, and practically walking onto the ship without worrying about losing track of time?) What’s more, many of the hotels in the Galveston area have special offers for anyone traveling onboard a cruise ship. These offers include free or discounted parking rates and a helpful shuttle that ferry passengers back and forth from the hotel to the ship. While several hotels in Galveston have these amenities, some of the best include the Hilton Galveston Island Resort and the San Luis Resort .

8. Parking Is Easy

Don’t let Galveston’s size fool you—the port itself has plenty of options when it comes to parking. As previously suggested, anyone staying at a nearby hotel might want to consider leaving their car parked there and taking a shuttle, taxi, or Uber over to their terminal. Additionally, travelers can reserve a space in the port’s parking lot ahead of their trip. These parking spaces are safe and secure, and port employees will assist with any luggage brought aboard on cruises from Galveston.

9. Galveston Itself Is a Beautiful Place To Visit

The main reason we believe you should depart from Galveston on your next cruise is the opportunity you’ll have to see what it has to offer. Like most major cities, there’s plenty to do and see around town, with every prospective sight catering to travelers’ interests. For those interested in shopping, the Strand Historical District has plenty of independently owned stores that feature everything from odd tchotchkes to essential beach items. Galveston’s famous Moody Gardens is an educational park built around natural wonders such as exotic sea life, immaculate flowers, roaming monkeys, and sloths.

10. You’re Bound To Find Some Great Last-Minute Deals

As previously mentioned, Galveston is a more scaled-down port than Miami or Port Canaveral, but its three terminals still receive cruise ships constantly. Because of this constantly moving schedule, most travelers will find it incredibly easy to find last-minute deals on select cruises from Galveston—often days before the ship is booked to leave. Sure, it may not be practical for those traveling from longer distances to book something last-minute. Yet these last-minute deals are well worth it for anyone within a short distance of Galveston.

11. Galveston Is Steeped in Rich Maritime History

Galveston is a city rich in history, having first been settled by Indigenous Natives of the Akokisa and Karankawa tribes before the Europeans arrived in the 1600s. Over the next several centuries, Galveston became a hub for maritime trade, eventually attracting such notable figures as French buccaneer Jean Lafitte. All that being said, history buffs will delight at the chance to visit Galveston, taking in some of the numerous historical sights around town—like Lafitte’s personal hideaway at Maison Rouge or the Michael B. Menard House, named after one of Galveston’s original American settlers. Even those who don’t care for history will find these areas fascinating.

Disney announces where its cruise ships will be sailing during late-2025, early-2026

Disney Cruise Line is preparing to debut its new cruise ship, the Treasure, at Port Canaveral later this year.

But it also is planning ahead as far as 2026, with the cruise line's latest announcement of ship schedules out of Port Canaveral and other ports.

Disney's just-released ship schedules for October 2025 through May 2026 ― Disney's winter and spring cruise seasons ― shows that the cruise line will have three ships based on Port Canaveral during that time.

Disney currently bases two ships at Port Canaveral — the Fantasy and the Wish. But it will have three, starting when the Treasure starts sailing in December.

Where Disney ships are headed

What you'll discover on Disney Treasure: Here's a lineup of some restaurants, entertainment and lodging on Disney's Treasure ship

Here are the newly announced plans and itineraries for Disney ships that will be based at Port Canaveral:

The 2,713-passenger Disney Magic will have four- and five-night sailings from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas in October 2025, before switching home ports to San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the end of October, then to Galveston, Texas, in November 2025.

The 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy will sail out of Port Canaveral on three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas starting in November 2025, replacing the Magic on the port's schedule. Before coming to Port Canaveral, the Fantasy will offer a special 13-night trans-Atlantic cruise sailing leaving Oct. 20, 2024, from Southampton, England, to Port Canaveral, with two port-of-call stops in Spain and one in Portugal.

The 4,000-passenger Disney Treasure will offer seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral.

The 4,000-passenger Disney Wish will offer three- and four-night cruises to the Bahama from Port Canaveral.

All the cruises out of Port Canaveral will include a port-of-call stop at one or both of Disney's private islands in the Bahamas — Castaway Cay and the new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which had its first port-of-call visits this month.

"That's a lot of options out of Port Canaveral," said Scott Sanders, owner of the Celebration-based Disney Cruise Line Blog , which is not affiliated with Disney itself.

The Fantasy and the Magic will be switching places at Port Canaveral. The Fantasy currently is based at Port Canaveral, but will leave in May 2025, replaced by the Magic, before the Fantasy returns in November 2025.

The addition of a third Disney ship at Port Canaveral at the end of this year means Disney will be using two cruise terminals there, rather than one. Currently, when they are in port, Disney ships dock at Cruise Terminal 8, a terminal primarily used by Disney. But the third home-ported ship will result in Disney also using Cruise Terminal 10, which now currently is used primarily by MSC and Norwegian.

This is where Disney's two other ships will be during the fall 2025 to spring 2026 time frame:

The 2,713-passenger Disney Wonder will have multiple home ports, including Vancouver, British Columbia; Honolulu; Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and San Diego.

The 4,000-passenger Disney Dream will sail out of Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades with three-, four- and five-night sailings to the Bahamas, as well as five-night sailings to the Western Caribbean.

Disney will offer themed holiday sailings on some of it 2025 cruises, with Halloween on the High Seas cruises in September and October, then Very Merrytime sailings in November and December.

Bookings for the general public will open Friday for the winter 2024 through spring 2025 Disney cruises. Bookings for members of various Disney Cruise Line clubs open earlier this week.

Sanders said it is unusual for Disney to announce cruise ship schedules for two seasons at once. But he believes that is related to Disney planning a special announcement with the next few months about itineraries for two other Disney ships now under construction that will joining the fleet in 2025 ― the Disney Adventure and the Disney Destiny.

The 6,000-passenger Adventure will sail out of Singapore. Disney acquire that ship — partially built and then known as the Global Dream — from another cruise company. No home port has been announced for the 4,000-passenger Destiny.

Subscriber only, travel | disney cruise line reveals ship deployment plans for late 2025, early 2026.

That includes Disney Treasure, set to debut this winter, and 2022’s Disney Wishas well as older ships Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy trading off sailing duties.

The new homeport and sailing plans for Disney Destiny, a sister ship to Wish and Treasure, was not announced, but it’s slated to be delivered to the line at a yet-to-be-revealed date in 2025 and could end up DCL’s new second Florida home in Port Everglades.

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship function dfm_stn_player_script_id_XcJPnvQz( getS2NApiForPlayer ) { if( typeof window.MNGAuthentication !== 'undefined' ){ const s2nApi = getS2NApiForPlayer( document.querySelector('.k-XcJPnvQz') ); s2nApi.float = ! window.MNGAuthentication.isUserSubscriber(); } }

Also debuting in 2025 will be the Asia-bound Disney Adventure, but for now, DCL only revealed sailing plans for its two original ships, Magic and Wonder, its two decade-plus-old ships Dream and Fantasy and its two most recent ships Wish and Treasure.

Port Canaveral will continue to host Wish sailing short three- and four-night Bahamas trips while Treasure will continue with seven-night Caribbean sailings.

Disney Magic, which arrives to the port in summer 2025, will remain through October and then be replaced with Disney Fantasy in November doing a four- and five-night set of itineraries through May 2026.

3 looks back at Disney Cruise Line’s new Lookout Cay

Wish, Magic and Fantasy all have some trips that visit Disney’s newest private Bahamas destination Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point that welcomed first guests this month. Some sailings visit both Lookout Cay and the line’s original Bahamas private island Castaway Cay.

Many of the September and October sailings will take on the popular Halloween on the High Seas theming while November and December sailings will have the Very Merrytime holiday theme.

Disney Magic has not sailed from Port Canaveral since 2016, and as the line’s oldest ship has been tasked with bouncing around the world for short-term stays at various markets. It will do so again after October, first heading to Puerto Rico for a series of seven-night Caribbean sailings, and then making its way to Galveston, Texas, for four- to seven-night western Caribbean trips through May 2026.

Disney Cruise Line opens 2nd Florida home at Port Everglades

Disney Dream will keep sailing from its new year-round home in Port Everglades, which opened for business last fall. It will tackle three- to five-night Bahamas trips visiting either Lookout Cay, Castaway Cay or both, as well as some stops in Nassau through May 2026.

After a summer of Alaska sailings, Disney Wonder will continue its late 2025 duties in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, not returning to the West Coast homeporting in San Diego beginning in March 2026 for three- and four-night Mexican Riviera sailings. This will be the third season Disney Wonder has sailed from Australia.

Bookings for the new itineraries open to the public June 28, with earlier dates available for the line’s variety of club-level members, but details can already be found on disneycruise.com.
