UK-France: No date set for Eurotunnel frequent traveller scheme return

Sale of frequent traveller wallets – which allow customers to buy 10 or more tickets at discounted rates – were suspended in june due to the covid pandemic.

eurotunnel frequent traveller log in

Eurotunnel suspended the sale of new frequent traveller wallets for the second time in June, and a spokesperson has said there is still no date set for when they will be available again.

Frequent traveller wallets come in various different forms but largely comprise a bundle of 10 or more tickets which are bought in advance and allow passengers to travel at discounted rates.

While a single standard ticket may cost between £100 and £120, 10-ticket frequent traveller wallets cost under £50 per journey – although camper vans, trailers, pets and peak-time journeys bring with them a supplementary charge.

Customers can also choose a nominated person with whom they can share their tickets.

Bookings must be made in advance but – subject to availability – can be amended or cancelled up to 24 hours before departure.

“I have been travelling frequently [to France] for the past five years while restoring an old collège in Allier as a gîte,” Connexion reader Simon Gunn who uses the scheme said.

eurotunnel frequent traveller log in

In early 2020, Mr Gunn paid £440 for 10 tickets, less than half the amount he would have paid for single standard off-peak tickets.

“I usually use all the tickets myself but occasionally my partner goes on her own so the facility to transfer tickets is useful.

“I live near Folkestone and it is so much easier, saves a quarter of an hour of car journeys each side of the channel as well as the hour transit time.

“But [now I] will seriously reconsider the season ticket scheme currently offered by P&O Ferries which starts at £56 per single journey. Also, the ferry surcharges for peak travel can usually be avoided by careful planning, whereas the Eurotunnel ones usually cannot.”

The halt in frequent traveller wallet sales does not affect existing tickets, which can be used until June 30, 2022, subject to capacity.

Eurotunnel put the suspension down to the constraints of Covid restrictions, as well as increased demand for tickets over the summer months.

“Additional checks are now required by the authorities and this has affected the time it takes for vehicles to proceed through both check-in and border controls,” Eurotunnel said in a statement in June.

“Unfortunately this will prevent us from carrying our normal levels of traffic over the summer and, as a result, we will have to reduce the number of trains in operation.

“In addition, we have extended the validity of thousands of frequent traveller tickets that could not be used while travel restrictions have been in place.

“As a result, we must ensure there is sufficient space to honour these already sold tickets and so we are presently obliged to suspend the sale of further wallets.”

John Keefe, a spokesperson for Getlink, which operates Eurotunnel services, told The Connexion this week that, “we do plan to review the situation once traffic levels start to return to normal levels.”

However, he could not say when this might be.

Eurotunnel has also said that it plans to introduce a new “off-peak multibuy [deal] later in the year,” depending on availability and Covid travel restrictions.

Eurotunnel Frequent Traveller Programme

Have any members of the Eurotunnel Frequent Traveller Programme (FTP) contacted the company to ask if the 12 month validity period of the FTP tickets will be extended by the period when we are unable to use the tickets. I have raised the issue with the company via the website but have yet to get a response.

Not surprised you haven't heard back yet, to be honest - I suspect they haven't thought it through yet. When / if you do hear, I bet i wouldn't be the only one who'd be grateful if you could please post the gen here!

Its website at the mo just shows 1 train/day LON-PAR and thats all. It also says that any bookings already made can be exchanged once the new trains are on its site for the new dates. How this affects this type of tickets dont know.

Does Anyone Use Eurotunnel Frequent Traveller

I just wondered if there are any problems in using the Frequent Traveller tickets. It looks like a good deal.

We use Frequent Traveller all the time and it works well but we only use it for the car.

I believe there may be a supplement for the caravan as there is for pets, you would need to contact them for rates.

Also you have to buy 10 crossings and use them within a year.

That is 10 single crossings = 5 return journeys

We looked into it, but the timings of the crossings (off peak times) applicable under this offer weren't the best for us, so we didn't pursue it.

I use all time for business and pleasure

£43 crossing extra £20 if in peak time

Extra £43 for caravan

KontikiKid

My friend uses it for his motorhome - great value. He makes quite a lot of short euro trips so it works for him, but we just do two longer trips per year.

Are the "season tickets" valid for a year?

Eurotunnel frequent traveller extended dates

Last year like many others we had unused crossings in our account. ET agreed to extend the validity until later this year, however now they are trying to reduce the expiry date they gave by 3 months. Anyone else had similar?

Clipgate

Not yet, but have considered asking for an extension as June is not looking very hopeful

We wrote to them in mid December and asked for an extension, not had a response as yet. Maybe they are busy with 'B' systems integration or having a nice festive break, so will give them another week

I can only presume because you took yours out in June is the reason they are saying No If i were in your position I would check how many days the FCO advised against travel in the first lockdown and how many days have been in the second lockdown to date and ask them to explain their different policy (if the amounts work out) and you would be interested in their response so you can let all the other motorhome owners know who are monitoring and working out the best way of getting to france in the summer if it is available as the ferries are doing some good offers. (Or words to that effect)

suavecarve said: Please see email i received from them on 7/5/20. To clarify we (me and another funster) have an account that started in January 2020 and we can continue to use it til January 2022. You may want to make reference to this as I saved it for a reason ! Received at 1400 hrs into my email account on 7/5/20 Dear Mr XXXXXX, We know that this is a very unsettling time for everyone. As the lockdown continues, and Government restrictions stay in place, we have listened to your requests, and made the decision to extend the validity of all of our Frequent Travellers’ tickets by 12 months . Hopefully this will help you dream of ventures back across the channel in the future. We certainly look forward to welcoming you much sooner than 12 months away, but decided it was simplest just to ensure you have plenty of time to make plans. There’s no need to contact us, you should just see it change in your account at some point in the next few weeks. 👍

just check our extended wallet still extended to 2022

I m going from memory here but I believe March 23rd (our lockdown) March 17th to July 7th which is 108 114 days when FCO advice was in play not to go abroad but they sent me the letter on 5th May which is 43 49 days after initial lockdown. The question now is What date did FCO advise not to travel this period ? And that looks like from November 5th (best info I can find quickly) making it so far 60 days so well past the point they made the decision to let us extend by a year.

orridge

Our was due to expire in Oct 2020 and was first extended to Feb 2021 and then when they extended some accounts by 12 months it was then extended for Feb 2022. So its worth chasing up as some accounts are being extended.

ours was due to finish in January 2021 and was extended by 12 months, i have a boking in for may / june this year so past the original expiry dates.

and our wallet shows expiry jan 2022

Wagoneer

From my previous discussions with ET, it transpires they have nominally applied a cut-off date of end of February 2020 to qualify for an extension of 12 months. So, anyone who bought a wallet prior to end of February 2020, had 12 months automatically added to the expiry date. Unfortunately, my ET wallet started early March 2020, so didn't automatically qualify for an extension of 12 months. However, they advised to contact them nearer the expiry date when they would review cases on an individual basis.

Hi orridge I have some unused bookings in my wallet, In April ET told me my wallet was extended until sept 2021,now out of the blue they tell me its only to June 2021. I have e mailed them copying their original offer but at present they will not budge. Given I have 6 unused crossings so at best will only use 2 I'm not very happy with them

I agree that a 1 year extension is very fair but why has this thread have to become a political issue. I am sorry but IMHO your last point does not appear to be relevant.
