For 35 years now, the Brazilian icons are not only a band revered worldwide; they have been, are and forever will be at the very forefront of Thrash Metal, trailblazing ever since they released their long-since legendary debut album “Morbid Visions” in 1986.

While quickly establishing themselves as leaders of the second wave of Thrash already in the late eighties, to this day they never came even close to stagnation . “Quadra” , their mighty new undertaking, is proof of a will unbroken, a thirst unquenched and a quality so staggeringly high it’s a wonder this band doesn’t implode. Now three albums deep into what may very well be their strongest incarnation yet – uniting the talents of old-school members Andreas Kisser (guitars, vocals) and Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. (bass), vocal force of nature Derrick Leon Green (vocals) and drummer Eloy Casagrande – SEPULTURA are an unleashed power to be reckoned with, uniting bucketloads of experience and youthful vigour in a totally revived way.

“On ‘Quadra’, we felt the urge to revisit that old thrash feeling of ‘Beneath the Remains’ or ‘Arise’,’ only seen through the eyes of today,” Andreas Kisser utters the magic words. “Add to that the tribal percussion, the orchestral elements, the choirs, the melodies and the clean vocals and you get a thorough run-through of our entire career, backed by a very contemporary approach.” Fuelled by an energy almost uncanny for a band that has been active for so long, SEPULTURA storm through a contemporary thrash monument, backed by sublime melodies, a very eerie atmosphere and a fiendishly high level of technicality. Kisser is appreciating these compliments, still maintaining his very down to earth approach. “We don’t heed the past and we don’t try to be preoccupied by the future too much,” he shrugs. “We’re in the now, trying every day to make SEPULTURA a little bit better. That’s what keeping us strong.”

Sepultura announce: 40 YEARS FAREWELL TOUR ‘CELEBRATING LIFE THROUGH DEATH’

Sepultura has reached the end of the road and has chosen to depart via a conscious and planned death.

Throughout the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years of existence together along with our loyal fans on a farewell tour across the entire globe. It will be a celebration of the past and the present for one final time. After 4 decades filled with ups and downs, having visited 80 countries and countless different cultures, we’ve had the chance to become Brazil’s messenger to the world and spread our colours and rhythms worldwide. With our latest studio album ‘Quadra’, a highlight of our career, we added an unforgettable chapter followed by the “SepulQuarta” experience that helped us to overcome the difficult times of the pandemic together. We will unite our forces for one final, strong farewell. And all of you can be a part of it. During this 40th anniversary tour, we will record 40 live tracks in 40 different cities and release a massive compilation of our best, most energetic moments on stage. We are happy and very grateful for everything we could witness within the past four decades. We have released great albums and played unforgettable shows, cultivated friendships, met our idols, contributed to placing Brazilian metal on the world map, and therefore feel that we can leave the music scene with a sense of duty fulfilled. SEPULTURA Announces 'North American Quadra' 2022 Tour With SACRED REICH And CROWBAR

Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA have announced the "North American Quadra" 2022 tour. The 30-day trek will kick off on March 4 in Sacramento and will make stops in Toronto, Cleveland, and New York before concluding on April 8 in Berkeley, California. The band will be joined by SACRED REICH and CROWBAR with openers ART OF SHOCK .

SEPULTURA singer Derrick Green comments: "We are extremely excited to reconnect with everyone in North America for this upcoming tour. We look forward to seeing all the people who have been anxious to see shows for the past two years. We will celebrate this re-connection of life and music together. See you soon!!"

Guitarist Andreas Kisser states: "We can't wait to go back on stage. We are very happy to announce our North American tour for 2022. We will see you all on the road, jamming old stuff new stuff and having the greatest time of our lives. See you all soon stay safe!"

Formed in 1984 in Brazil, SEPULTURA has gone on to sell over 20 million records and solidify its legacy as one of the greatest metal bands of the 1980s, 1990s, and beyond. Today, SEPULTURA is still going strong, 15 albums deep into one of the hardest-hitting discographies in history.

While the pandemic paralyzed the entire world and prevented bands from touring, Latin America's biggest metal export SEPULTURA refused to sit back and feel like animals trapped in a cage. Therefore, in early 2020, the band seized the moment to start its own weekly "SepulQuarta" video podcast in which they invited other famous musicians from all over the world to not only discuss important topics but also perform a track from SEPULTURA 's massive catalog together with the group. The resulting full-length compilation will now be released on August 13, with the album containing 15 classics featuring internationally renowned guests and friends.

SEPULTURA comprises Green , Kisser , bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. , and drummer Eloy Casagrande .

SEPULTURA was formed in Belo Horizonte by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera , who are no longer with the band.

LIVE REVIEW: Sepultura North America Quadra 2022 Spring Tour

With sacred reich, crowbar and art of shock.

Metal legends Sepultura is in the midst of their Quadra North American Tour, which was postponed and rescheduled due to the ongoing pandemic. Now that we seem to be out of the worst, shows are coming back with vengeance. Sepultura is supported on this tour by Sacred Reich, Crowbar and Art Of Shock.

On somewhat warm but stormy night in the heart of Philadelphia Tour rolled in with some bad news. Sacred Reich vocalist Phil Rind has fallen sick, and band had to withdraw from Philly show and few more following dates too. We wish Phil speedy recovery! So it was up to Art Of Shock and Crowbar to get the crowd rowdy.

While I missed Art Of Shock (I heard that they were amazing), Crowbar came out swinging. They opened set with High Rate Extinction, followed with To Build A Mountain and New Dawn. American sludge metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana has been known for their heavy, slow doom like sound. This sound is a force to be reckoned. Band played an extremely great set, filled with their classics and some new material too. Band just released their twelfth studio album called Zero and Bellow. They performed two songs taken from this album Bleeding From Every Hole and Chemical Godz.

Little technical difficulties did not slow them down. Bands founding member and vocalist Kirk Windstein was constantly getting crowd going and keeping them engaged thorough the set. Overall, their performance was simply amazing. For exclamation point band chose to play their classic Planets Collide taken from their 1998 album Odd Fellows Rest.

Sepultura set was preceded by the song Policia from Titas, another Brazilian band. Little dissent punk rock song was just what needed to set the stage for grand entrance of Sepultura. Flashing lights, menacing guitars, heart pounding drums, and explosive roar from Derrick Green hit you like a freight train. Opening song Isolation from their latest album Quadra was ferocious and loud, sending fans into the frenzy. Brace on Derricks leg did not slow him down, apparently, he did break his foot recently and is still recovering. Andreas Kisser on lead guitar compensated for all the mover Derrick might be missing and was hyperactive while energizing the crowd.

Band followed with Territory and Capital Enslavement. After Means To An End, Derrick took his time to express his gratitude to the fans in attendance and voice a relief that finally can be together at the concerts. And, I must add, that being able to attend the concert like in “old times” without a mask is truly a blessing and brings back that normalcy feeling.

Band followed to play many of their classics but made the biggest accent on the songs from Quadra, which took seven spots on their playlist. The biggest classic bangers were left for a dessert. Refuse/Resist and Arise wrapped up their regular set and for an encore fans were treated to tribal metal smash hit Ratamahatta and in my mind their best song of all time Roots Bloody Roots.

Sepultura has never disappointed, and this show fulfilled all promises of good times. The tour is scheduled to make many more stops and will conclude on April 9 th in California. So, you get your tickets while you can and have blast!

Album Review: Sepultura – Quadra

Sepultura continue to bring the heavy on rampaging 15th album, Quadra

Pushing ever onward with the comforting reliability of an old Land Rover, on album number 15 Sepultura are still a snorting, muscular metal machine. Based around the idea of the Latin Quadrivium – the subjects of arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy – Quadra is split into four sections, each showing a different side of the band.

The opening trio of Isolation, Means To An End and Last Time are raging, primal thrash attacks, sweaty and powered by testosterone, as Andreas Kisser unleashes some of his finest riffs in years. But then, things begin to grow. Tribal percussion, similar to that heard on their 1996 classic Roots , comes to the fore for Capital Enslavement, before the journey takes in choirs and strings, and ends up in a place of vastness for the final movements of the title-track, Agony Of Defeat and Fear; Pain; Chaos; Suffering.

After almost four decades in the game, it’s not just great that Seps are still on it, but also finding new ways to bring the heavy.

SEPULTURA announce breakup, farewell tour

Sepultura  are breaking up after they embark on a farewell tour in 2024. 

Next year marks the Brazilian metal band's 40th anniversary, and they're celebrating by heading out on an 18-month tour that's purported to be their last one ever. 

The band announced the shocking news in a press conference this morning (December 8th), where they expressed gratitude for their storied, at times complicated, career, and revealed that this epic journey of closure has been in the works for two years. 

Now, the band have issued a press release explaining the decision behind their split, and their plans for how they're going to bow out. See their full statement below. 

"Sepultura has reached the end of the road and has chosen to depart via a conscious and planned death.   "Throughout the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years of existence together along with our loyal fans on a farewell tour across the entire globe. It will be a celebration of the past and the present for one final time.   "After four decades filled with ups and downs, having visited 80 countries and countless different cultures, we've had the chance to become Brazil's messenger to the world and spread our colors and rhythms worldwide.

"With our latest studio album  Quadra , a highlight of our career, we added an unforgettable chapter followed by the SepulQuarta experience that helped us to overcome the difficult times of the pandemic together. We will unite our forces for one final, strong farewell. And all of you can be a part of it.   "During this 40th anniversary tour, we will record 40 live tracks in 40 different cities and release a massive compilation of our best, most energetic moments on stage.

"We are happy and very grateful for everything we could witness within the past four decades. We have released great albums and played unforgettable shows, cultivated friendships, met our idols, contributed to placing Brazilian metal on the world map, and therefore feel that we can leave the music scene with a sense of duty fulfilled.   "We've always had the best fans in the world, who supported us with praise and criticism, who were demanding and intelligent, who grew together with the band and have always been loyal. Without you, none of this would have been possible. This album and this tour are for you. Dear SepulNation - we love you and always will!

"Euthanasia, the right to a dignified death. The right to choose to live free and to choose when you die!"

Today, Sepultura have revealed the European, Latin American and Brazilian legs of their farewell tour, and you can see those dates down below via their Instagram.

Sepultura have had a long and, at times, rocky history. Formed in Brazil by brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera in the early 1980s, the band would eventually break out of the South American thrash underground when they caught the ear of Roadrunner Records, who issued several of their records in the late Eighties and early 1990s that rank among the greatest in metal history.

Alas, after 1996's  Roots , vocalist-guitarist-songwriter Max departed the band and was replaced by new frontman Derrick Green. His brother Iggor eventually exited in 2006, but this newly minted Sepultura lineup — with Green on the mic and lead guitarist Andreas Kisser taking over all guitar duties — have carried the band forward in the years since. 

Technically, the current iteration of Sepultura — Green, Kisser, longtime bassist Paulo Jr. and drummer Eloy Casagrande — features zero original band members. Throughout the last decade, the Cavalera Bros. have united on several occasions to perform Sepultura albums from their era of the band in full.

Sepultura 2024 North American Farewell tour: Presale code, dates, venues, & all you need to know

S epultura is extending the 'Celebrating Life Through Death Tour' and adding a North American leg to the outing. The band took to Instagram on Tuesday, June 4, to reveal the dates of the headlining farewell tour that begins on September 17.

The Brazilian band announced the farewell tour back in December 2023, as they informed fans about their plans to disband. While a firm reason behind the decision was never shared, the band hinted that they had 'reached the end of the road and had chosen to depart.'

As such, North American fans interested in catching Sepultura live for the last time can book their tickets through the Live Nation presale beginning at 11 a.m. MDT on June 5. The two-day presale will be accessible through LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com with the code 'CHORD.'

Ticketmaster will also begin a member-exclusive two-day presale at 11 a.m. MDT on June 5. The tickets for the general public, however, will only be available starting Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. MDT. It is yet to be confirmed if upgraded tickets or VIP packages will be available for the North American leg of the farewell tour.

Venues, supporting artists, and more about Sepultura's North American Farewell tour

Sepultura kicks off the North American leg of the farewell tour on September 17 with a concert at Chicago's Concord Music Hall. Following up the Chicago concert, the Brazilian band will host consecutive shows in Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Boise, Seattle, and San Francisco.

The band will also perform headlining concerts at House of Blues in San Diego, Tucson's Rialto Theatre, and The Factory in Dallas. Starting October 2, the Brazilian band will host consecutive shows in Tampa, Atlanta, Raleigh, Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, and Ohio.

Sepultura's fans in Canada can catch the band live on October 9 and 10 at The Rebel in Toronto and Montreal's L'Olympia. The band will head back to Massachusetts on October 11 and perform at the Palladium in Worcester.

If there are no changes to the itinerary, the North American leg will be wrapped up with the final concert at the Palladium in Times Square.

Sepultura will be supported by guests like Agnostic Front , Claustrofobia, and Obituary on the first 17 days of the tour. The guest list will undergo a minor change for the Canadian concerts as Harvest will replace Claustrofobia for the two dates. The São Paulo-based Claustrofobia will be back to support Sepultura in North America for the last two concerts on October 11 and 12.

Sepultura kicked off the 'Celebrating Life Through Death Tour' on March 1, 2024, at Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Set to span over 18 months, the tour has already covered multiple cities in Brazil, Europe, the U.K., and Latin America.

It is not confirmed if the North American leg will be the last of the 'Celebrating Life Through Death Tour' as the band has yet to cover select regions, including Australia and Asia.
