At a glance: The Forclaz Trek 700 Air Ultralight sleeping pad has eight vertically arranged air chambers. The sleeping comfort on the air mattress is high. It packs down to the tiny size of a 1L water bottle and with a weight of 523 grams it doesn’t weigh too much.

Experience – Weight & Pack Size

I was very curious about the Forclaz Trem 700: How does the cheap Decathlon Isomatte compared to the expensive competition?

The Decathlon sleeping pad is delivered rolled up in a small packing bag. Packed inside, the Trek 700 Air air mattress is about the size of a 1 liter bicycle water bottle. Thus, the air mattress fits easily into any backpack and bikepacking handlebar roll .

With 523g, the Decathlon sleeping pad just passes as ultra-light. Inflated are offered 5.5 cm thick. This is not much but should promise pleasant lying and sleeping comfort.

The pack sack is very practical: it protects the air mattress. In addition, air mattress with pack sack nestles well with the other equipment in the steering wheel or backpack. That’s why I prefer to transport the air mattress in a pack sack.

Inflate & Deflate

After a long day of outdoor hiking or bikepacking, you set up the Ultralight tent and want to sleep on the comfy sleeping pad. How fast does it go with the Forclaz Trek 700 Air?

For inflation and deflation, the Decathlon sleeping pad has a 2-way check valve. So there are 2 valves: one valve for inflation and one valve for deflation.

The Ultralight Mat is inflated quickly: After about 15 breaths and less than 45 seconds, the mat is filled to the brim. If the mat is then too hard, you can always readjust it with the bleed valve.

The next morning, the ultralight sleeping pad wants to be vented and packed: To do this, the vent valve is opened. The Trek 700 Air can then be rolled up or folded. For relaxed packing, the air must escape completely from the sleeping pad. The construction with the two separate valves allows the Decathlon sleeping pad to be completely deflated: the Decathlon sleeping pad can thus be repacked quickly and relaxed.

To allow any moisture inside the mat to escape, both valves should remain open. With a pump bag included, such a problem could hardly arise. However, a pump bag is neither included nor available as an accessory for the Forcalz Trek 700 Air.

Processing & Quality

The Forclaz Trek 700 Air is super processed. There are fancy silicone adhesives on the top: these are to prevent the ultralight sleeping pad from slipping down with the sleeping bag. This works wonderfully: lying on the air mattress, you have a good grip and do not slide down.

Fortunately, you can sleep quite undisturbed on the Decathlon sleeping pad. When you move around on the mat, there is no excessive noise as with other ultralight mats.

Lying comfort & Sleeping comfort

Now it’s time to look at the most important factor of an insulating mat: the lying and sleeping comfort. This is really good with the Trek 700 Air: the 5.5 cm thickness of the air mattress ensures that I could sleep comfortably even on the most varied surfaces.

Whether soft meadow or subsoil with pebbles and branches: Unevenness compensates the Decathlon Isomatte excellent. With a body weight of 75 kilos, I am comfortably bedded on the Forclaz Trek 700 Air and can sleep in great comfort. Decathlon itself states a maximum weight of 125 kilos on the product page.

Above and below the shape of the sleeping pad is tapered: this shape is chosen because ultralight sleeping pad to save weight. Especially as a side sleeper you should pay attention to this point. For me as a side sleeper with 1.84 m height, the lying surface fits well. I have listed all available sizes for you at the end of this review.

Heat & Insulation performance

The R-value of the Decathlon sleeping pad is given as 1.6. This makes the Trek 700 Air a typical two to three season air mattress. If you use it mostly in summer, early spring, and late fall, you should be able to sleep comfortably.

I had the air mattress so far always in the summer in warm temperatures in use.

My sleep system continued to consist of either:

• A MSR Hubba NX tent or the Trekking tent Forclaz Trek 900 Ultralight .
• The sleeping bag used was a Sea to Summit Spark 2 down sleeping bag.

With the sleeping system used, the insulation performance is ideal as expected and I don’t feel any floor cold.

My assessment of the insulation performance: with the Sea-to-Summit Ultralight with an R-value of 0.7, I can sleep comfortably at about 5 degrees without freezing. Based on my experience, I suspect that the Decathlon sleeping pad is very good for down to 0 degrees.

The Decathlon sleeping pad makes a robust impression all around. So as robust an impression as an air mattress can make 😉

With the air mattress I usually sleep in the tent. The sleeping surface for the Forclaz Trek 700 was therefore mostly the tent floor. Then you can also sleep on slightly more pointed stones or on small roots. With me, the Decathlon Isomatte has loosely put away these small hints.

Directly on the ground without protection, the Trek 700 Air should not be used. A nasty sharp stone can quickly drill through the air mattress and you have to help yourself with the included repair kit.

With careful use, as described above, you should have a very long time fun with the Decathlon sleeping pad.

What size fits you? Ideally, the sleeping pad should be fairly close to your body size.

With the Trek 700 Air, Decathlon proves once again: A good ultralight sleeping pad can also be inexpensive. I really like the Decathlon sleeping pad in the test. It combines a small pack size with an acceptable weight. This makes the sleeping pad a really good companion on bikepacking tours and bike trips.

The sleeping comfort on the sleeping pad is excellent thanks to a thickness of 5.5 cm. With the lying surface provided, side sleepers can also sleep very comfortably. The insulation performance with an R-value of 1.6 allows for a range of applications from early spring to late fall.

The Trek 700 Air is a good sleeping pad with excellent value for money: The pack size is tiny and only the weight has to be compromised slightly.

The Forclaz Trek 700 Air is a really good trekking air mattress for short and also long tours. In this price range, a really more attractive offer.

Forclaz Trek 700 50+10 Women’s Mountain Backpack Review

Last spring, I looked for a new backpacking backpack for my 12-year-old. She had outgrown all our junior backpacks and needed a larger backpack to carry enough stuff for one or more camping trips. To have enough space for clothes, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, snacks and water, I figured that 50L was a good start. The challenge with her is that she has a narrow upper body, making fit at shoulder and chest level quite tricky with adult backpacks.

After a Decathlon store opened on Kensington High Street in London, I went looking, wondering if I would find the right backpack. That’s how I ended up buying the Forclaz Trek 700 50 + 10L Women’s Mountain Backpack. We’ve used it many times in all types of weather now and I am sharing my review.

Opening the Forclaz 700 50 + 10 Women’s Mountain Backpack is a breeze. It’s done with two zippers in the front and you literally open up the whole backpack from top to bottom in a second. Like peeling an orange, the backpack opens as little or as much as you want and you have direct access to all layers inside the backpack. It’s a very welcome change from standard backpacks with top openings where you struggle to find the one piece of kit that’s lodged at the bottom. This is what it looks like, open.

Pretty neat, right?

If you are really in a hurry, just pull on the top clip and peel the opening panel down. It opens up without having to even having to use the zippers. My daughter loves this! The front panel includes a zippable mess pocket that she uses for toothpaste, hairbrush, headlamp and other small items.

Exterior gear loops provide storage for hiking poles or ice axes, and two zippable side pockets can hold 1-liter water bottle or flip flops/light shoes. An internal pocket makes good storage for a Platypus-type 2L water pouch. The top pocket with zippered security pocket inside for valuables (or to quickly access snacks and sunscreen) is a nice touch.

The one item of design that still baffles me is two side pockets whose use I cannot comprehend given the angle. They are like small baskets with a drawstring opening. Small water bottles maybe? It’s unclear.

It may not matter where you live but in the United Kingdom, a non-waterproof backpack is going nowhere outside. The Forclaz Trek 700 backpack is made of 300 denier polyester with a reinforced base, which makes it durable and not subject to abrasion for starters. As all backpacks sold in the UK, it comes with its own rainfly that comes out of a pocket in the top compartment. I tend to prefer rainflies that come out of the bottom of the bag (as you just pull them out and fit over the top of your backpack) but this works too.

When fully covered, the backpack looks like this – it’s the grey backpack, bottom left, in this picture. If anything, the rainfly is slightly too large, allowing for extra stuff on the outside of your bag, such as tent or gear. We haven’t tested the rainfly in extremely windy situations (think, Scotland in winter ) but my guess is that it might flap around. You’d need to tighten it really well and secure the rainfly to one of the backpack loops with the small plastic carabiner that’s attached to it.

Empty, the backpack comes in at 2 kg/4 lbs 4 oz which isn’t light, but given the volume, this is not a backpack for ultralight backpacking and camping anyway. This is the type of backpack that you use when you want some comfort on the trail. When loaded for my daughter for 2 overnights in the Lake District, it weighed roughly 10 kg including sleeping bag, sleeping mat, ultralight 1-person tent, 2L water pouch, clothes, snacks, headlamp, book, toiletries and lightweight sandals.

Both the waist belt and the shoulder straps are well padded and when fully loaded at around 8 to 12 kg, it feels very comfortable and doesn’t cause any strain on the neck.

I mentioned that my daughter has a narrow frame. Even at its smallest, the waist belt doesn’t sit on her hips. It doesn’t hang completely loose either but that means that she carries most of the weight on her shoulders. Hence the importance of a good fit around the shoulders and back. The adjustable back is the feature that really won me over as she is still growing. It’s currently at the XXS setting but it can grow (with her) all the way to L or I can also borrow her backpack and adjust it to the length of my back.

I’ve found that this backpack is so convenient, with its front pull-down opening design, that I’ve taken it to the beach for a picnic, to an apple farm to pick apples and to a swim and hike in the River Thames with friends. As you can see, it’s a good all-around backpack that goes beyond mountains and wilderness.

As with most Decathlon gear, the price is very reasonable for the quality you get and I bought mine for £69.99 (basically £70).

I'm interested in this bag - for 50/50 traveling and hiking. There is a character limit of 256, so I will split my questions up: 1. How is the carry comfort of this bag? More like hiking backpacks, or more like a regular backpack with a waist strap?

This backpack has the Easyfit system, which provides excellent fit with automatic adjustment. It also has foam back and straps to adjust your custom fit.

2. How are the compression straps? A lot hiking backpacks you can compress quite a lot - meaning the carrying comfort is good even if it isn't filled. Oftentimes I will probably only carry 45-50L or so.

The main design purpose of this bag is for travelling. It is ideal for travelling and going from one place to another without having to hike for too long: very robust and practical, your can transport all your belongings.

3. Can the bag be opened from the top as well? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is possible to open it from the top too.

How tall is the bag (inches) with the detachable top removed off?

It is approximately 26.9 inches long when the top is zipped off. The measurement varies depending on the pack is empty or full.

Does this bag have a roller-luggage pass-through?

I use the backpack for trekking and I only have good things to say about it. Very practical and comfortable. The fact that it opens like a suitcase is excellent, allowing you to access the material below without having to remove what is on top. To be perfect, it would have side pockets so that we could access water bottles while walking. Either way, it's very good.

A bit of difficulty understanding how the little bag above works which is ultimately very practical!

I liked the bag and bought it and used it for 15 days in Jordan and Egypt. I hitchhiked while carrying it on my back for hours and got caught in the rain. I got on the plane and the bus with my bag. So I've used it enough to comment. Pros: +The bag is very roomy. I fit the world into it. Since it has a lot of pockets, I was able to put my materials in separate compartments without mixing them up. It's nice to have a separate section to put shoes. Even though I had a hard time fitting my size 45 shoes, at least I was able to put my slippers :) The outer side compartments (bottle storage area) are much wider than normal bags. I can put my 1.5 liter bottle and 0.5 liter thermos in the same pocket. There is also a small, hidden bottle carrying pocket. You can either take it out and use it or tuck it in and hide it. +Zippers feel very sturdy. Especially the large zipper that allows the bag to be opened like a suitcase. It is both durable and easy to open. +The support system of the bag is so nice that you can make 4-5 different settings as if you were sitting on a racing seat and making adjustments. Don't be intimidated, it's very easy to set up. It lightens your load so much that you don't feel the burden. +Separate compartment on top.. It is a great feature that it can be removed and used as a bag. It put an end to my trouble of carrying additional bags with me. It's supposedly 6 liters, but thanks to what I could fit into it, it made it very convenient for me during the day. +Raincoat is a different matter. It is designed very useful. It covers and protects the entire bag. You can put it in your luggage with peace of mind. Its texture is quite solid. Let's talk about the cons... - We said the zippers are of very high quality, but there is no proper handle attached to the zippers. They left the rope tied to the zipper. It doesn't suit this bag at all. I removed the zipper handles of my old bag and attached them to this bag. - A name tag was attached to the bag so that you could write your name, phone number etc.. A name tag worth 3 liras on a bag worth 3000 liras. I took it off as soon as I saw it. - Lastly, there are places for threading rope in the bag, but there is no rope? You know, there are places where mats are installed, a place was made for that, but they did not install ropes. From where? I don't understand It's a bit of a long article, but I hope it will be useful to you. In my opinion, the bag is very useful, but as I said, it has some minor shortcomings. I use it with pleasure.

After a month-long trek in Thailand, I can attest to the quality and robustness of this backpack, which is full of pockets! Very well designed overall, the suitcase opening is a real plus. The rain cover is included with this bag. The color is versatile and not very messy. I considered the volume of the backpack sufficient (76 liters in total) for a thirty-day stay in a hot country, especially since we must not forget that the higher the volume of the bag, the more we fills up and the more the weight is felt (in my case, fifteen kilos). I therefore recommend this backpack and look forward to using it again for a future trip to Asia!

Bag purchased as part of a trekking vacation. Large storage capacity. The pockets allow for good organization, including the shoe compartment, which are very useful in this type of travel condition. Comfortable bag with adjustable and padded straps. I love my bag!

How to adjust your backpack?

Begin by adjusting the lumbar belt. The bag's weight should sit mainly on your hips. Then tighten the shoulder straps to bring the bag's weight towards your back. Attach and tighten the chest strap then tighten the smaller straps above the shoulders so that the back sits perfectly on your back.

Protect your bag in the rain

The backpack has a rain cover to protect the contents of your bag when it rains.This same cover will protect your bag in transit. By tightening the strap, you can completely pack your bag to protect it.

The main bag’s volume is 70 L. The removable pouch adds an extra 6 L volume.

All the backpack buckles are available as spare parts (8797061). The removable pouch is also available (8766039).

Extendible volume: 70 L + 10 liters extra (4271.7 in3 + 610.2 in3) thanks to the adjustable height of the bag top. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardized method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in liters, with a margin of error of just a few %

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Near your back, place heavy equipment (tent, stove, food). Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet can be placed under the flap; the tent under the bag if there’s no space inside. Keep a waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. In the pockets, place small items for the day (sunscreen, map, glasses...). The water bag should be placed in the compartment that is usually placed the length of the back.

Why are our rain covers gray when some trekkers want them to be brightly colored?

The component is made of BITON: this process allows us to lower our CO2 impact and reduce consumption and water pollution in comparison to colored models.
