How things work at Concerts in the Woods:  Our concerts are open to all with no admission charge, but there is an opportunity to make a donation at the door.  100% of the donations collected go directly to the artists who are performing for you. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. We offer open seating on a first-come, first-served basis, with no tickets or advanced reservations.  Complimentary coffee and cookies are served at intermission.

Lisa and Aryeh last played Concerts in the Woods in October, 2022 – we are truly excited to welcome them back                                                                                        to Coyle for this concert!

Sidelined by that nasty Covid bug just before we had them scheduled to play Concerts in the Woods last summer, we are excited to finally welcome The Go Janes back to Coyle for a June matinee show.

The Go Janes feature ukulele, guitar, and generous doses of delicious harmony vocals on songs from the long view of life. Their writing ranges from tender and sweet tributes to our shared humanity, to songs exploring how weird it is that magicians used to (pretend to) saw women in half for entertainment. From monkey-infested golf courses in India, and what that teaches us about how to greet life’s challenges, to letting go of our independent children, and losing those we love in more lasting ways. Along the way they pay homage to their ancestors and to their own and others’ most idiosyncratic selves. And there are knife-throwers, and howling dogs, and how the pandemic made them fight with each other and themselves.  Folk life for sure. Going to be a fun afternoon with this trio!

We’re excited to welcome back Me & the Boys, featuring Roger Ferguson, Terry Enyeart, Rick Meade, and Mick Nicholson to Concerts in the Woods. Me & the Boys is a bluegrass super-group from the Pacific Northwest rocking the acoustic stages around Puget Sound.  With lots of humorous between-song banter, this fun four-piece  delivers the bluegrass goods from trad-grass to assorted genres e.g. classic rock and jazz – all with total ease – and on traditional acoustic instruments! Each member, with more than 30 yrs professional experience, is deserving of the “Me” status… Yet, as the name implies, nobody needs top billing. Cuchulain (pronounced Ka-HOO-lin) is a low-voiced songwriter with a wry wit. The NPR Music-featured folk singer released an album of long distance pandemic collaborations called FEAT on Nov 5, 2021 that was called “an as-yet-unpublished portion of the Great American Songbook.” Cuchulain’s deep baritone and clever lyrics have drawn comparisons to Randy Newman, Leonard Cohen, and Johnny Cash. From rooms as big as the Kennedy Center or as small as a friend’s living room, Cuchulain’s lyrics have brought laughs and tears to audiences across the US and beyond as he shared the stage with renowned folk acts including Ira Wolf, Jeffrey Lewis, Viv & Riley, Billy Keane, Upstate, and more. His new album “Minute To Win It” – a visual album of 20 songs in 20 minutes – is out now and taking the world by storm.

Minor Gold are ARIA nominated artists Tracy McNeil & Dan Parsons. Canadian and Australian respectively, this Trans-Pacific duo echo 70’s cosmic Americana with an easy charm and potent honesty. The strength of the songwriting and the indeterminate perfection of how these two artists’ voices lock in together hit right where the emotions live inside us. With dynamics ranging from the intense restraint of campfire intimacy through to open throttle abandon, Minor Gold delight and enthrall as they weave masterful harmonies and deft guitar playing around unforgettable, stripped back performances. Brittany Jean is a folk singer/songwriter currently living in a little apple town in North Central Washington, and her style is rooted in the folk and Americana music she has loved all her life. With performances ranging from cozy house concerts and beautiful wineries to full concerts in grand auditoriums and theaters, her music has taken her across the country many times (including playing the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, opening for Three Dog Night’s sold   out concert in New York City, performing at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas… to name a few adventures!). While she performs her own songs, she peppers her live sets with cover songs by her favorite artists—such as John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, and Judy Collins, and her shows are always family friendly! Her poise on stage will put you at ease, and her stories will draw you in.

Brittany has released six studio albums and one EP— all recorded in Nashville, TN. Her Lightfoot EP was released Summer 2023, and this project is her “thank you” to an all-time favorite songwriter. Brittany’s sixth album (Colors & Covers) was released Winter 2023, a collection of songs reflecting a handful of the different shades and seasons in this colorful life.

Into the Woods Tour Announces Full Cast and Additional Cities

Into the woods to grandmother’s house (and Nashville and Orlando).

The producers of the national tour of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods have announced full casting as well as two additional tour stops.

The complete cast of Into the Woods will include Montego Glover as The Witch, Stephanie J. Block as The Baker's Wife, Sebastian Arcelus as The Baker, Gavin Creel as Cinderella's Prince/Wolf, Cole Thompson as Jack, Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Diane Phelan as Cinderella, Nancy Opel as Cinderella's Stepmother, Jason Forbach as Rapunzel's Prince, Aymee Garcia as Jack's Mother, Rayanne Gonzales as Jack's Mother (DC only), David Patrick Kelly as The Narrator, Josh Breckenridge as Cinderella's Father, Felicia Curry as Cinderella's Mother/Grandmother/Giant's Wife, Ta'Nika Gibson as Lucinda, Brooke Ishibashi as Florinda, Kennedy Kanagawa as Milky White, Jim Stanek as the Steward, and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel with Erica Durham, Ellie Fishman, Marya Grandy, Paul Kreppel, Eddie Lopez, Ximone Rose, and Sam Simahk as understudies.

In addition to the previously announced tour stops , Into the Woods will also play the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, Tennessee (May 23-28), and the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando, Florida (unspecified dates in early June). Into the Woods is directed by Lear deBessonet, with music supervision by Rob Berman, and choreographed by Lorin Latarro. The creative team for Into the Woods includes David Rockwell (scenic design), Andrea Hood (costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design), Scott Lehrer & Alex Neumann (co-sound designers), James Ortiz (puppet design), and Cookie Jordan (hair, wigs, and makeup design). John Bell is the music director and Scott Rowen is the stage manager.

In her review of the Broadway run of Into the Woods , TheaterMania critic Hayley Levitt wrote, "I would like to submit Into the Woods as proof to this skeptical industry that there is a not-so-far-off kingdom where the pinnacle of art meets the pinnacle of entertainment."

The Woods Brothers Announce Fall 2023 Tour Dates

In support of their latest album, Heart is the Hero , released this past April, The Wood Brothers have announced their headlining tour slated to take the nation by storm this fall. The tour includes a total of 16 dates across the Northeastern and Southeastern regions of the country, and will kick off on Oct. 18  at the People’s Bank Theatre in Marietta, Ohio.

In continuation of their jaunt, the band will continue making stops across  throughout the month with shows scheduled to take place in Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts. After a month break, the band will move down to the Southeast for the second leg of the tour. 

The latter half will begin in Fort Lauderdale at Culture Room on Nov. 30 and continuing on with noteworthy stops at Tipitina’s in New Orleans and a performance at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Ga. The final performance will be at Charleston Music Hall in Charleston, S.C., on Dec. 8. 

In addition to fall dates, the band has previously announced their summer touring plans with festival appearances around the country, including Green River Festival on June 24, Mariposa Folk Festival July 7-9 and Calgary Folk Music Festival on July 29 and 30. Additionally, they have several dates in the West and Midwest, with gigs in Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and more throughout the summer months. 

All October dates will be supported by Maya Devitry, with additional appearances from ZZ Ward, Ida Mae, Turnpike Troubadours and more on selected dates.

For that production, she also received an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actress and Broadway.com listed her as one of the top five performers (male or female) of the year. Joaquina is a 2021 SAG Award nominee for Cast in a Motion Picture for her role as Betty X opposite Kingsley Ben-Adir in Regina King’s directorial debut, One Night in Miami . Patina Miller

Zac Brown Band Announces 2023 “From The Fire Tour,” Marking Their 10th North American Tour

Today, multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning Zac Brown Band announced their upcoming 2023 “From the FireTour.”

The new set of dates, produced by Live Nation, arrives on the heels of 2022’s “Out in the Middle Tour” and the release of “The Comeback (Deluxe)” album, which features re-recorded tracks with some of music’s biggest stars, including Blake Shelton, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Cody Johnson, Marcus King, Jamey Johnson, and Ingrid Andress. The “Out in the Middle Tour” saw the band perform at Wrigley Field, Hollywood Bowl, Truist Park, and the famed Fenway Park, where they hold the record for most consecutive sold out shows with 13.   Just ahead of their own record-breaking sell-out, Zac Brown Band was inducted into the Fenway Music Hall of Fame, joining only Paul McCartney and Billy Joel. 

The “From the Fire Tour,” which marks the band’s 10 th  North American tour, will kick off in Columbus, Ohio on June 30 th  and continue through November. The tour will showcase Zac Brown Band’s one-of-a-kind, southern rock style, serving as an ode to fans and those that have lent a helping hand to pull this country out from the fire of these past few years and helped us all get back on our feet and unify as one. The band will perform over 30 shows, including a return to Fenway Park as well as performances at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, Hersheypark Stadium, Budweiser Stage, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The band will be joined by an incredible group of opening acts on select dates throughout the tour, including Marcus King, Tenille Townes, and King Calaway.

“This past year was monumental, and we’re thrilled to bring all that momentum with us into 2023 and onto the ‘From the Fire Tour,’” said Brown. “We are all like family in this band and having the opportunity to bring our music from city to city is something we never take for granted. Just ahead of the “From the Fire Tour,” the band will make their highly-anticipated return to the international stage, with headlining performances at both C2C: Country to Country in the United Kingdom and CMC Rocks in Australia in March. Additionally, in conjunction with MLB’s Lou Gherig Day celebrated across the league in June, Zac Brown Band will perform a Cincinatti Reds Post-Game Benefit Concert, where a portion of proceeds from every ticket sold will benefit founding band member John Driskell Hopkins’ Hop On A Cure Foundation, dedicated to finding a cure for ALS.

NEW YORK --  Fleet Week 2024 sailed into New York City this week , starting with the annual Parade of Ships  and followed by a full schedule of events for the whole family. 

Take a ship tour or catch a free concert in Times Square, before saluting the country's fallen servicemembers for Memorial Day.

A founding member of the pop-rock band Train is dead at age 58, according to a new report from TMZ .

Charlie Colin, a bassist for the Grammy-winning music group for a decade, died after slipping and falling in a shower in Brussels, Belgium. Colin’s mother told TMZ that the accident occurred while he was house-sitting for a friend; his body was discovered when his friend returned from a trip five days ago.

Colin’s sister confirmed his death to Variety .

Colin was living in Brussels at the time, teaching a music master class at a conservatory, his mother told TMZ. He was also reportedly working on music for a film and served as musical director for the Newport Beach Film Festival.

Colin formed Train in the ‘90s with singer Pat Monahan and fellow founding members Rob Hotchkiss, Jimmy Stafford and Scott Underwood. Colin played bass on Train’s first three albums, including “Meet Virginia” and the Grammy-winning smash hit “Drops of Jupiter.”

Colin left the group in 2003 due to substance abuse, according to Variety. He later performed with bands like Slipknot and Puddle of Mudd, plus formed the band Painbirds (with Hotchkiss) and Side Deal (with Sugar Ray’s Stan Frazier and the PawnShop Kings’ Joel and Scott Owen).

Train has not yet commented on Colin’s death.

The band, also known for songs like “Hey Soul Sister,” “Marry Me” and “Drive By,” begins its summer tour next month with four concerts scheduled in Upstate New York . Train will perform July 19 at the Artpark in Lewiston and three shows with REO Speedwagon on July 23 at the Broadview Stage at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center), July 24 at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, and July 31 at the Empower FCU Amphitheater in Syracuse.

Westmoreland bands earn 2024 nominations at independent Josie Music Awards

Three Westmoreland County bands have earned nominations for the 2024 Josie Awards , which recognizes independent musicians.

Greensburg’s Derek Woods Band was nominated for “Social Impact Music Video of the Year,” for their song “Thank You For Being Here.”

The song celebrates unity and diversity, and explores the importance of embracing change in order to grow emotionally, with lyrics such as, “We are different, we must listen/to each other’s piece of mind.”

“It’s a reminder that each and every one of us is necessary in order to make the world a better place,” said Woods, who will join his band in attending the Josie Awards, held annually at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

It’s not the first time one of the band’s videos has earned a chance at acclaim.

The video for “Don’t Look Away,” from its 2022 album, “Picture Yourself,” won LIT Talent Awards for best music video and best art music video. The centerpiece of the video was a “Muppet”-style puppet of namesake Derek Woods, which was created by California company Jonny Does Puppets.

In addition to the Derek Woods Band, country rocker Andy Davis was also nominated for four Josie Awards: Artist of the Year (JMA Alum Modern Country), Fan’s Choice (Male), Vocalist of the Year (Modern Country) and Music Video of the Year (Performance Focused/Male JMA Alum). Davis also is a Mt. Pleasant borough councilman.

Alle-Kiski hard rock band Sourmash is also nominated for Group of the Year (Rock/Metal JMA Alum).

Both Davis and Sourmash have won multiple Josie a wards.

Here’s how much money every player made at the 2024 PGA Championship

Like all the major championships, the 2024 PGA Championship purse has increased significantly over the years, and it made another jump this year.

Just how much of an increase are we talking about? A brief overview: Just three years ago, in 2021, the purse was set at $12 million — what was then a record total for the tournament, and a number that was surpassed by only the U.S. Open. Two years ago, the 2022 PGA Championship purse increased to $15 million. And last year, the 2023 PGA Championship purse jumped yet again to a whopping total of $17.5 million. (The Players Championship remains the richest purse in golf at a total of $25 million.)

This year, the 2024 PGA Championship purse increased again to a total of $18.5 million. To put that number in perspective, the eight PGA Tour Signature Events offer $20 million purses, a number that was matched by the 2024 Masters purse and the 2023 U.S. Open purse . The 2023 Open Championship purse was $16.5 million.

This year’s PGA champion will surpass the payout received by 2023 champion Brooks Koepka by $150,000, with a $3.3 million total payday. The runner-up will receive a cool $1.99 million, and third place will clear seven figures too, with a payout of $1.26 million.

Iconic 00s rock band with catchy hit song announce first UK tour in 15 years

Australian rock band Jet have announced their first UK and Ireland tour in 15 years ahead of the release of their first album for over a decade.

The four-piece, who formed in Melbourne in 2001, haven’t touched down for a tour in the UK since 2009, having primarily played shows in their home country and New Zealand ever since.

But the band have arranged a run of UK and Irish dates in October this year, which will see them play in some of the two countries’ most popular venues.

And they’ll be joining a number of 90s and 00s nostalgia acts touring in the UK again after several years away.

The tour will open on October 3 with a show at the Academy in Dublin before journeying northwards to the Telegraph venue in Belfast on October 4.

They’ll then cross the Irish sea to play SWG3 Galvanizers Yard in Glasgow on October 6, before beginning a run of five shows in England.

Birmingham is the first stop on October 7, playing at the O2 Institute. A Manchester date at the O2 Ritz is then scheduled for October 8.

A two-day break will then give the band time to get to Nottingham, where they’ll play the city’s iconic Rock City venue on October 10.

Bristol’s Marble Factory will host them on October 11, before a final show in London on October 12 at the Kentish Town Forum will bring the tour to a close.

Jet hit the big time in 2003 when their single Are You Gonna Be My Girl became an international hit, charting in the UK and the US, even going Platinum and Gold in those countries respectively.

After their initial breakout their moderate success continued well into the late 2000s, with their second album Shine On being certified Gold in the UK in 2006 and their third album Shaka Rock going Platinum in Australia.

However, band do have the dubious honour of being one of only a very small handful of acts to be given a 0.0 out of 10 album review score by notable music publication Pitchfork.

Shine On was greeted harshly by the magazine that, instead of publishing a standard review, attached a YouTube video of a monkey urinating into its own mouth.

Despite the negativity aimed at them by critics, the band continued to have moderate success until the late 2000s, especially in their home country where their songs were charting regularly until their hiatus in 2012.

Nicholas Custer, the band’s lead singer, then spent several years living in Italy, with the band reuniting sporadically to play shows either side of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite initially breaking up before Spotify became the dominant force for music listening, Jet still have nearly six million monthly listeners on the platform.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl currently boasts over 600,000,000 streams, while other songs such as Look What You’ve Done have posted almost 100,000,000 in that time.
