Following its acclaimed run at the London Palladium, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is hitting the road for a new UK tour in 2024 and 2025

Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat first premiered in the 1970s and has gone on to become one of the world’s most widely recognised and performed musicals.

Donny Osmond, who originally starred as Joseph in the show, will return to star as Pharaoh at Edinburgh Playhouse only.

Donny said: “Having starred as Joseph in over 2000 performances in this magical musical, I am now ready to channel my inner Elvis and assume the role of Pharaoh in Edinburgh starting this December.”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will kick off its second UK tour with a special limited engagement at the Edinburgh Playhouse this Christmas season.

Donny Osmond returns to play Pharaoh, who performs ‘Song of the King’ in the iconic musical, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It will be his UK debut in the show.

Tickets go on general sale today tomorrow (February 22) at 10am.

In a career spanning six decades filled with remarkable achievements—including selling over 100 million records, earning 33 gold records, headlining a record-breaking Las Vegas residency, and entertaining millions of fans worldwide—one of Donny's standout roles remains his portrayal of Joseph in the US and Canadian productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat .

It's back!  Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will mark the opening of its second UK tour with a strictly limited festive season at the Edinburgh Playhouse this Christmas!

Making his first UK appearance in a stage version of the production, global entertainment icon and highly-celebrated alumni star of Joseph, Donny Osmond returns to play ‘Pharaoh’, who rocks ‘Song of the King’ in the iconic musical. Donny Osmond says of his return to the show: “I always knew I would return to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Having starred as Joseph in over two thousand performances in this magical musical, I am now ready to channel my inner Elvis and assume the role of Pharaoh in Edinburgh starting this December.”

Producer Michael Harrison said: “Following the extraordinary reception the Edinburgh Playhouse and thousands of theatre fans gave Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat at the end of the 2022 tour, it made absolute sense to begin the new tour here and to ask Joseph royalty, Donny Osmond, to star as our festive season Pharaoh. Few shows bring the generations together the way Joseph does, and we are honoured to have an icon of the show join us to create a magical moment for families this Christmas, who will cherish the experience for years to come.”

The multi-award-winning show, which began life as a small-scale school concert, has been performed hundreds of thousands of times in productions in over 80 countries worldwide.

WHAT IS JOSEPH ABOUT?

Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator ,  Joseph  and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  follows the story of Jacob’s favourite son  Joseph  and his eleven brothers.

After being sold into hardship by the brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife.

While imprisoned,  Joseph  discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled showman, the Pharaoh.

As  Joseph  strives to resolve Egypt’s famine, he becomes Pharaoh’s right-hand man and eventually reunites with his family.

Throughout an illustrious six decades long career, Donny Osmond has earned 33 gold records: selling over 100 million albums becoming a worldwide music legend. He has made history by celebrating 6 decades in show business with the release of his album, One Night Only: a live album accompanied by a DVD of his sold-out UK tour in January 2017. 

Donny’s latest album Start Again which debuted in the fall of 2021, marks a milestone 65th album for the performer. The 12 track Pop/R&B Start Again is Donny’s first full length solo album in 7 years and is entirely co-written and produced by Donny. The album was directly inspired by Donny’s own unique career journey of constant reinvention over the course of his six decades as a world recognized performer. 

Currently, Donny headlines his award winning solo residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas which was voted Best New Show, Best Performer, Best Resident Headliner and Best Production by the public in the Best of Las Vegas honors from The Las Vegas Review Journal. 2008 marked the 50th year celebration of the Osmond Family in entertainment. The entire family made a historic appearance on Oprah, which set a daytime ratings record and made Oprah’s list of Top Ten Best Celebrity Moments. Creative Team

TIM RICE has worked in music, theatre and films since 1965 when he met Andrew Lloyd Webber, a fellow struggling songwriter. Rather than pursue Tim’s ambitions to write rock or pop songs they turned their attention to Andrew’s obsession–musical theatre. Their first collaboration was based on the life of Dr. Thomas Barnardo, the Victorian philanthropist, The Likes Of Us . Their next three works together were much more successful– Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita .

Tim has since worked with other distinguished popular composers such as Elton John ( The Lion King, Aida ), Alan Menken ( Aladdin, King David, Beauty and the Beast ), Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson ( Chess ),and Stuart Brayson ( From Here To Eternity ).He also written with Freddie Mercury, Burt Bacharach and Rick Wakeman among others.

He has recently written and presented 50 weekly podcast chats (entitled Get Onto My Cloud ) which are mercifully short (25 mins max) reminiscing about his years in music, theatre and film–playing hits and flops, out-takes and number ones.bpn.fm/getontomycloud In 2021 he and Peter Hobbs wrote Gee Seven for the Truro Cathedral Choir to coincide with the G7 economic summit invasion of Cornwall.

Tim founded his own cricket team in 1973, which has now played over 700 matches, and was President of MCC, founded in 1789, in 2002. He was appointed President of the London Library in 2017 in succession to Sir Tom Stoppard. He is a Trustee of Sunderland FC’s Foundation of Light and a Life Vice-President of the schools/cricket charity Chance to Shine. He crops up here and there in all branches of the media drawing on his extensive knowledge of the history of popular music since Elvis was a lad. He has won several awards, mainly for the wrong thing or for simply turning up.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has composed the scores of some of the world’s most famous musicals. From Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1968) to Cinderella (2021) his work has been consistently seen on world stages. Before the covid pandemic hit, Lloyd Webber had shows continually running in the West End for 48 years and on Broadway for 41. When Sunset Boulevard joined School Of Rock , Cats and The Phantom of the Opera he equalled Rodgers and Hammerstein’s record of four shows running simultaneously on Broadway. He is one of the select group of artists with EGOT status, having received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards.

Lloyd Webber owns seven London theatres including the iconic London Palladium and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Over the past three years the latter has been completely restored and renovated at a cost of over £60 million. It is one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by a private theatre owner in recent times. His mantra that every penny of profit made from his theatres is ploughed back into the buildings has meant that considerable work has been undertaken across his theatre portfolio during the pandemic, including the complete re-modelling and re-seating of the Gillian Lynne.

Lloyd Webber is passionate about the importance of musical education and diversity in the arts. The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation provides 30 performing arts scholarships every year for talented students with financial need and supports a range of projects such as the Music In Secondary School Trust and commissioning research into diversity in theatre.

Andrew Lloyd Webber was knighted in 1992 and created an honorary life peer in 1997. To mark his 70th birthday, his best selling autobiography Unmasked was published by Harper Collins in March 2018.

Oscar-nominated John Cameron created the orchestrations for the 1991 Palladium production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat . He is best known for his orchestral score for every version of Les Misérables between 1979 and 2006 including the original Robert Hosse in production in 1980 through the RSC, Broadway, tour and concert versions, winning the New York Drama Desk Award for Orchestration in 1986 and the National Broadway Theatre Award in 2002. Other shows he has arranged include Honk, & Spend, Spend, Spend . Zorro The Musical which he co-composed with the Gipsy Kings was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2009.

As a composer, John’s 50+ movie scores Include the Oscar nominated score for A Touch of Class, the British classic Kes and the Emmy Nominated score for The Path to 9-11.

Songwriting hits include Agnetha Faltskog’s If I Thought You’d Ever Change Your Mind . Concert works include the cantata Missa Celtica recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra and the choir of New College Oxford. Recording artists worked with include Jose Carreras, Donovan, Hot Chocolate and Heatwave.

In 2014, Nils’ Wonderful Adventure a musical in Mandarin Chinese, with music and original English lyrics by John, won a Golden Lion Award in China for Best Children’s Musical.

Post Pandemic, it’s great to see Joseph back on the stage, and like most of the music industry, John is looking forward to getting his other movie, TV and music theatre projects back on the rails!

Dr John Rigby is a conductor, musical supervisor and musicologist who initially studied orchestral conducting at the University of Huddersfield and the Royal Northern College of Music. He gained his PhD from Kings College London having researched the cultural resonances of Franz Lehár’s ‘Berlin’ operettas during the Weimar Republic. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Arts from Edge Hill University in recognition of his work in musical theatre and conducting.

West End credits include: An American in Paris (Dominion); Beautiful and Damned (Lyric); The Drowsy Chaperone (Novello); The King and I (Palladium); The Last Empress (Apollo, Hammersmith); Marguerite (Theatre Royal, Haymarket); Les Misérables (Palace and Queen’s Theatres); The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s); The Pirates of Penzance (Savoy); The Producers (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane); and Sinatra (Palladium).

As Musical Supervisor, he worked on the UK Tours of The Producers and The King and I ; Cameron Mackintosh’s 25th Anniversary Tour of The Phantom of the Opera ; the arena world tour of Jesus Christ Superstar ; the new production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre and School of Rock at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Currently, he is Co Musical Supervisor for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new Cinderella , also at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Elsewhere, he has conducted Chess for English National Opera, Carmen Jones at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Madama Butterfly for Lyric Opera, Dublin, Carousel for Opera North and Die Fledermaus for Opera Holland Park, as well as enjoying regular concert engagements with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Hallé, the London Concert Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra.

John Rigby was nominated for Best Musical Direction for the 2019 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the 20 th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards and is delighted to be returning for this year’s revival.

Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat announces new tour dates.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  is set to return for a new tour.

Donny Osmond, who played Joseph over 2000 times, will play the Pharaoh in the show when it commences a festive season at Edinburgh Playhouse on 3 December.

The revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s classic has direction by Laurence Connor, choreography by JoAnn M Hunter, set and costume design by Morgan Large, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by Gareth Owen. Casting is by David Grindrod with musical supervision by John Rigby.

After its spell in Edinburgh the show will visit Oxford’s New Theatre, Sunderland’s Empire Theatre, Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre, Nottingham’s Theatre Royal, Belfast’s Grand Opera House, Manchester Opera House, Bristol Hippodrome, Leeds Grand Theatre, Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, Norwich Theatre Royal, Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Woking’s New Victoria Theatre, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Southend Cliffs Pavilion, Plymouth Theatre Royal, Liverpool Empire, Cardiff’s Millennium Centre and Milton Keynes Theatre.

JoAnn M Hunter  (who has 20 Broadway shows to her credit, including  School of Rock  and  On A Clear Day You Can See Forever ) is the show’s choreographer, set and costume design are by the award-winning  Morgan Large  with  Ben Cracknell  as Lighting Designer and  Gareth Owen  as Sound Designer.

Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator ,  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  follows the story of Jacob’s favourite son Joseph and his eleven brothers. After being sold into hardship by the brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar but ends up in jail after refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled showman, the Pharaoh. As Joseph strives to resolve Egypt’s famine, he becomes Pharaoh’s right-hand man and eventually reunites with his family.

Full Cast Announced For UK Tour Of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT

The tour kicks off at Manchester Opera House on Wednesday 23 March.

The full cast has been announced for the sensational brand-new production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber 's Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which begins a UK & Ireland Tour at Manchester Opera House on Wednesday 23 March.

Alexandra Burke will play The Narrator at select venues across the tour. Her many West End credits include the lead roles in The Bodyguard, Sister Act, Chess and Chicago, as well as starring as the Narrator in the celebrated production of Joseph at the London Palladium last summer. Alexandra first rose to fame winning The X-Factor in 2008, and has since gone on to sell over 5 million records.

Linzi Hateley will also play the role at other venues. Linzi is an Olivier Award nominee and Theatre World Award winner who has starred on Broadway, in the West End, with the RSC, and at The National Theatre . She now returns to the role of the Narrator, having first starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 1991 opposite Jason Donovan and Phillip Schofield at the London Palladium - for which she received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.

Jason Donovan will reprise his role as Pharaoh, which he performed at the London Palladium in 2019 and 2021. He was originally in the show when he made his defining stage performance as the title character of Joseph in the 1990s, in a sold-out 18-month run which produced a No.1 single and best-selling soundtrack album. Jason raised the roof of the London Palladium during the show's 2019 and 2021 engagements as Pharaoh, who rocks 'Song of the King' in the musical.

Jac Yarrow prepares to don the famous coat in the titular role on tour, having caused a sensation when he made his professional stage debut playing Joseph, following in the footsteps of a line of stars who have previously played the title character. His portrayal of Joseph won him unanimous acclaim and an Olivier Award nomination, with his rendition of 'Close Every Door To Me' regularly stopping the show with standing ovations.

Audiences and critics were unanimous in their acclaim for the legendary musical - the first major collaboration by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber - when it returned to the London Palladium in 2019 and again in 2021.

The role of Pharaoh will be played by Bobby Windebank at the venues across the tour where Jason Donovan does not perform. Bobby was part of the 2021 company when the show played the season at the London Palladium.

Joe Bonamassa announces 2025 UK arena tour

Joe Bonamassa's new album Live At The Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra is out now

Blues rock whizz Joe Bonamassa has announced a UK arena tour for 2025. The five-date trek kicks off the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow on April 21, and climaxes at the Brighton Centre on April 27. Bonamassa has also announced a pair of mainland European shows in the Czech Republic and Belgium.

A pre-sale will begin tomorrow (June 26) at 10am, while tickets go on general sale at the same time this Friday from Joe's website and via Gigantic . Full dates below.

“I am looking forward to touring the UK again,” says Joe. “UK audiences have always been supportive of my music. The fans are always energetic and enthusiastic."

Bonamassa's US your schedule kicks off at the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville, DE, on July 17. 

In other JoBo news. the guitarist has hooked up with music retailer Reverb to release Welcome Back To Nerdville, a sequel to their 2016 mini-documentary Welcome Back To Nerdville, which finds Bonamassa's collection of vintage guitars to be even nerdier than before.

Sum 41 have confirmed UK & European dates for 2024.

The Fat Lip rockers - made up of Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason 'Cone' McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo - previously announced they'd be bowing out with their Tour Of The Setting Sum and now they have added shows on this side of the pond.

Taking to X, the In Too Deep rockers wrote: "Our fans overseas have been incredible to us over the years, so we can't wait to put on the best show of our lives and go out on a high."

The farewell gigs will see them play the likes of Co-op Live Manchester and the OVO Wembely Arena in London, joined by The Brox and Neck Deep as support on selected dates.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday 28th June at 10am local time, while the pre-sale is open on Tuesday 25th June from 10am.
