See Luke Combs’ Setlist From Opening Night of His World Tour

Luke Combs had the crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the palm of his hand on Saturday (March 25). It was opening night of his World Tour, and the "Going, Going, Gone" singer did what he does best: Kept it simple and let the music speak for itself.

After several openers —  Riley Green , Lainey Wilson , Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb  — Combs captivated the audience song after song. He opened the show with roaring rendition of "Lovin' on You" that got the sold-out stadium crowd on their feet, singing along. He kept the energy up with "Hannah Ford Road" and "Cold as You" before gently coaxing the audience into his more sentimental songs.

Combs gave his band their time in the spotlight, too, as he introduced them to the crowd. He stepped back and allowed them to take center stage as they covered a few recognizable choruses: "Dust on the Bottle" (David Lee Murphy), "Meet in the Middle" (Diamond Rio) and "When I Was Your Man" (Bruno Mars).

The North Carolina native also took a moment to himself. He told the audience he likes to perform one song solo at each show, and after grabbing his guitar, Combs delivered his non-drinking drinking song "Joe."

He gave some backstory prior to performing "Houston, We Got a Problem." He revealed that his first tour stop after signing a record deal was in Texas. He had just met now-wife Nicole, whom he described as "the woman who would eventually change my life." Both the state and his newfound love inspired him to write the song as soon as he returned to Nashville.

After hitting everyone in the feels with the songs inspired by his bride, Combs began revving up the engine again. He finished out his set with "Beer Never Broke My Heart," but as everyone knows, there's always an encore — and he still hadn't played one of his biggest songs.

The audience shouted in delight when the opening guitar riff of "The Kind of Love We Make" rang out from the stage. Combs returned to give the fans what they wanted, diving headfirst into his rendition of "Brand New Man." He brought Wilson, Green and Cobb out to join him before closing out the show.

Just one day before the tour launched, the "Doin' This" singer released a new album titled Gettin' Old . Despite its newness, the crowd had clearly done their homework: With each song, you could hear thousands of people singing back every lyric, word for word.

Combs' World Tour will pick up again on Saturday, April 1, in Indianapolis, Ind. The trek will continue through Oct. 19, with Combs and his crew jetting off to New Zealand, Australia and Europe during the second half.

If Luke Combs could do anything, he’d still be doin’ this. Over the last eight years, the singer-songwriter has risen to the top of country music’s A-list with a combination of well-honed songwriting chops and a can’t miss live show. The seven-time Grammy nominee, who recently coaxed Tracy Chapman onto the Grammys stage for a rare, heartwarming duet of her iconic single “Fast Car,” is set to hit the road this spring for his upcoming Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour in support of his 2022 Growin’ Up and 2023 Gettin’ Old albums.

The trek kicks off on April 12 with a doubleheader in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a total of 30 dates throughout the summer will follow.

Combs’ 2024 tour features two shows in most cities on the bill, and almost all of the stops in each city are on Fridays and Saturdays. Country Superstar Luke Combs Kicks Off His Record Breaking World Tour in Arlington, and Shares Deep Love for Texas

C ountry superstar Luke Combs kicked off his World Tour in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, March 25, 2023. It’s the first of his sixteen slated North American stadium shows, all of which are complete sell-outs. In fact, as of this weekend, there are only two international stops with any remaining seats ― but you’ll have to travel to either Hamburg, Germany, or Zurich, Switzerland to snag those.

Seriously, Hamburg and Zurich, what are you waiting for?

It’s the largest tour ever for a country artist, bringing one of the genre’s biggest names to some 39 shows across three continents and 16 different countries. That’s right, a country singer is selling out stadiums not just in Texas and Tennessee, but also in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, France, and Belgium. That’s how far Combs’ sultry and instantly recognizable voice has traveled so far.

The popularity of Luke Combs cannot be underestimated. He remains the CMA Entertainer of the Year, after receiving that award for the second-consecutive year last November. He’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry and an eight-time CMA, three-time ACM, and three-time  Billboard  Music Award-winner, with hits including Going, Going, Gone , Beautiful Crazy, and Beer Never Broke My Heart . I’ll bet, just like me, you’re already humming along.

New Music And Gettin’ Old

Combs’ newest album, Gettin’ Old (a companion to last year’s Growin’ Up) , was just released on Friday, March 24 ahead of his world tour’s kick-off concert in Arlington. This is where the balladeer really hits his stride, making the most of his powerful vocal range, legendary salty tone, and storytelling prowess. You feel every verse, and it’s easy to make these songs your own.

It’s interesting to put the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old album covers side by side. On one, you see a youthful smirk on the singer’s face with a honkey tonk in the background. On the newest album, the smirk is gone. His expression on Gettin’ Old has been replaced with a knowing realism, and in the background is a ranch-style home with its wrap-around porch. How quickly priorities change.

“This album is about the stage of life I’m in right now” Luke Combs admits. “It’s about coming of age, loving where life is now but at the same time missing how it used to be, continuing to fall for the one you love and loving them no matter what, living in the moment but still wondering how much time you have left, family, friends, being thankful, and leaving a legacy.”

luke combs tour openers order

That’s heady stuff ― a lot to ponder, but Combs takes it all on, over the course of 18 soulful tracks, on his new album. And, the first song sets the stage. It’s called Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old ― one of four album tracks he had advanced prior to Friday’s release ― including Joe (that Combs wrote for those struggling with alcohol addiction and choosing to live a sober life), Love You Anyway , and 5 Leaf Clover , which he released on St. Paddy’s Day.

“A while back my buddy Newdy and I were looking around the clover plot at my house for four-leaf clovers,” Combs says of his new song by the same name. “I eventually found one, but shortly thereafter, he found a five-leaf clover and I thought to myself, ‘Man, how lucky do you have to be to find a five-leaf clover?’”

Kicking Off The World Tour In Arlington

The crowd arrived early to hear a line-up of four other warm-up acts — including Brent Cobb, Flatland Cavalry, Lainey Wilson, and Riley Green ― before the headliner hit the big stage, dressed in his trademark black Columbia PFG shirt, blue jeans, and a black trucker hat branded with Blue Otter Polarized (his sponsored brand of Watauga style sunglasses).

The crowd erupted each time Combs flashed his innocent smile, and he was seen carting around his other notable on-stage prop ― a Solo cup ― but at this show, Combs had switched from his traditional red Solo to blue. They were stacked four deep by the end of the evening. He opened his first tour date with the song Lovin’ On You .

“I put a new album out yesterday,” Luke Combs explained to a knowing audience.

The first selection off his new album was  Love You Anyway , which the crowd seemed to already know by heart. They sang back up loud and proud on many of his biggest hits, earning their own solo performances from time to time like on One Number Away . And, when Combs sang his 5 Leaf Clover (which has been out for less than 10 days), and the crowd already knew every line ― the singer seemed astonished, and couldn’t stop smiling in appreciation.

“Here we are 50-something thousand deep at AT&T Stadium,” Combs noted at one point.

So, let’s get the obvious criticism out of the way. It’s too bad that Texas’ only shot at seeing Luke Combs on this tour was in AT&T Stadium, with its notably underwhelming acoustics. It’s a concrete cavern, built for sporting events, unlike Dallas’ American Airlines Center or Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena ― both of which were built with acoustics in mind. That’s why Paul McCartney’s only Texas stop last year was at Dickies Arena instead.

While Luke Combs was a great show, and achieved the goal of one tour stop in the great state of Texas, packing in the fans ― it could have been so much better in a better venue ― one designed for music. Now, back to the show.

Luke Combs – Hits the road for 38 more stops on his world tour which kicked off Saturday at his only Texas stop. (Photo by Courtney Dabney)

“It all started with me and my blue guitar,” Combs reminded his fans, as he donned his famous cobalt blue acoustic guitar for the first time to sing Going, Going, Gone . His name shimmered in inlaid mother of pearl on its fret.

One groom-to-be had all the single women swooning (and all their boyfriends kicking themselves) during Combs’ Forever After All ― as his proposal was spotlighted on the big screen. As if that wasn’t memorable enough, Combs relayed his guitar pick to the happy couple as an added souvenir.

“I’m 33 years old and moved to Nashville nine years ago,” Combs said in the lead-up to his ode to Texas, Houston, We Got A Problem . “The first place I went after I got a record deal was the great state of Texas. I’m not sure if there’s any place on God’s green earth that I love more than Texas.”

It seems Texas agrees. There are few country artists that fans love more than Luke Combs.

Luke Combs Adds Stadium Shows to 2023 World Tour

by Cillea Houghton June 5, 2023, 12:03 pm

Luke Combs is extending his 2023 World Tour schedule.

Videos by American Songwriter

The country superstar has announced four new stadium shows to his already packed schedule. Due to popular demand, Combs has added second shows at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on July 7; Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 14; Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 21; and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 28. They join already announced dates in the aforementioned cities. Combs will perform July 7-8 in Tampa, July 14-15 in Charlotte, July 21-22 in Foxborough, and July 28-29 in Philadelphia.

“After we got to play two shows in Nashville, I decided I wanted to play more shows for the fans, so I got with my team and the stadiums and luckily all of the July dates lined up for us, so we decide to just do it!” Combs says in a press release. “I’m really excited to be able to bring more music to more fans.”

Tickets for the new dates go on sale Friday (June 9) at 10 a.m. local time.

The hitmaker is bringing an impressive slate of artists across country and Americana genres as his supporting acts for the newly announced dates: Lainey Wilson, David Lee Murphy, Old Crow Medicine Show, Turnpike Troubadours, The Avett Brothers, Gary Allan and Brent Cobb. Cody Johnson, Riley Green and Lane Pittman will also serve as opening acts throughout the tour that kicked off in March and continues through October where Combs ends the trek with a two-night, sold-out stay at the O2 Arena in London.

The tour is in support of his latest album, Gettin’ Old. Released in March, the album hit No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200. It features lead single “Love You Anyway” and a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” both of which are currently climbing through the Top 15 on country radio. It’s the companion album to Growin’ Up, which was released in June 2022.

Luke Combs delivered a stellar set at his 2024 Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old tour -stop in University Park, Pennsylvania on April 27th at Beaver Stadium, with Luke now preparing to take the stage at Jacksonville, Florida's EverBank Stadium on May 3rd.

On the opening few shows, the ‘When It Rains It Pours’ treated the crowd to performances of his unreleased fan-favourite, ‘ The Man He Sees In Me’ . The intricate ode to his son is widely expected to feature on Luke's forthcoming Gettin’ Old follow-up album. However, Luke didn't perform this in New York or Pennsylvania.

Milwaukee and Orchard Park attendees got to witness Luke Combs deliver a couple of electrifying covers, including Ed Sheeran's ‘Dive’ and Brooks & Dunn’s ‘Brand New Man’.

Here you can find Luke Combs’ updated setlist as he embarks on his 2024 tour.

Luke Combs has earned his title of being a multi-year CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, so he knows when to strip things back and get intimate in his set, and when to dial up the energy once again with a flurry of fire-starting, beer-chugging anthems.

He's unsurprisingly still including chart-toppers such as ‘Beautiful Crazy’, ‘Love You Anyway’, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, ‘Hurricane’, ’Going, Going, Gone’, ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’, ‘The Kind Of Love We Make’ and his hit Tracy Chapman cover, ‘Fast Car’.

Excitingly, Luke Combs has made it a tradition to perform a Taylor Swift-style ‘Surprise Song’ each night, and he made the first tour-stop of 2024 extra special by performing the playful ‘Beer Can‘ - a song that usually doesn't make it into his set. On the second night in Milwaukee, he performance the wistful, nostalgic ‘Refrigerator Door’, and on the first tour-stop in Orchard Park, New York, he performed his much-loved ballad, ‘Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old’.

We'll be keeping our eyes out for more ‘Surprise Songs’ and unreleased debuts as Luke Combs continues his blockbuster tour across the US and Canada, with dates lined up in Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Utah, New Jersey and more.

Luke Combs Announces 2024 North American Stadium Tour

The country music star will perform 25 shows across 13 U.S. cities next year

Country fans are going to need to start planning for 2024.

Luke Combs announced his plans on Tuesday for the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour. The string of North American tour dates includes 25 shows across 13 U.S. cities, as well as one date in Canada.

The country music star, 33, will kick off the upcoming live dates in April 2024 in Milwaukee and eventually wrap up the shows in Houston in mid-August 2024.

All but one U.S. city tour stop will include two shows — one on Friday night and one on Saturday — and the set list is scheduled to change depending on the date. (There will only be one concert in his tour stops in University Park, Pennsylvania and Craven, Canada.)

The “Fast Car" cover singer will also be joined by a handful of special guests each night. On Fridays, Cody Jinks, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters and The Wilder Blue will play, and on Saturday he will be joined by Jordan Davis , Mitchell Tenpenny , Drew Parker and Colby Acuff.

In a press release, the "Hurricane" artist shared his excitement about hitting the road. “We got an opportunity to do two shows in some U.S. markets on the World Tour, but when I found out we were going to be able to do two shows for most all of the cities on the 2024 tour, I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own unique setlist. I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows,” he said.

The CMA Award winner continued, “With Country music being such a wide genre and being a huge fan of it all myself, I wanted to open up my stage to acts that lean into Outlaw, Americana and Red Dirt on Friday nights, as well as having a night with people I have toured with in the past, who are more contemporary country. I’m super excited to have both groups be out on the road with me for the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour!”

Luke Combs rattles stadium at Jacksonville concert, ready to come back and do it again

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Luke Combs was midway through his Friday night show , standing front and center by himself on stage and playing one of his earliest songs, "This One's For You," just as he has in a thousand bars and clubs on his way to the top.

When he finished, a sly grin briefly crossed his face, signaling that he was as surprised as anyone to find Luke Combs headlining before 45,000 people at EverBank Stadium, and coming back the next night to do it again.

Combs poured his heart out onto the stage for nearly two hours Friday night, walking on stage to a recorded version of "Sweet Caroline" that had the crowd singing along so loud that there must have been noise complaints in San Marco.

Combs, who was playing at the Mavericks nightclub in the old Jacksonville Landing less than eight years ago, was at the top of a bill of country up-and-comers. He had four opening acts on Friday and will be back at the stadium Saturday to do it again, with a whole different cast of openers. It's fair to guess that more than a few fans who were at Friday's show were impressed enough to buy tickets for Saturday.

Saturday night: Have tickets for Luke Combs' concerts in Jacksonville? Here's what you need to know

Next week: George Strait, Chris Stapleton in concert at EverBank Stadium. Here's what you should know

Combs isn't a high-energy, tear-around-the-stage performer like Kenny Chesney, who is also headlining stadium tours. And he doesn't have decades worth of hits like George Strait , who brings his tour to the same stadium next week. That's what makes Combs drawing 90,000-plus fans over the weekend so impressive.

Combs became the hottest thing in country thanks to smart songwriting and a band that can absolutely rock and roll. He doesn't have a great voice, but he has a powerful one that had no trouble Friday reaching the folks in the nosebleed seats. If you needed further proof that the new generation of country has arrived, just look at the cover songs he chose to include in Friday night's set. He didn't play Hank Williams or George Jones when he wanted to salute his roots, he went to Brooks and Dunn's '90s hit "Brand New Man," Ed Sheeran's "Dive," Shania Twain's "Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" and Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking."

Combs, a Carolina Panthers fan, wisely wore a Jaguars hat for Friday's show, running through 25 songs and sticking around on stage well after the last number had run its course, shaking hands and signing autographs with fans on the field. He had the crowd on its feet and singing along from the moment he hit the stage to "Must've Never Been Me."

There's certainly a lot more rock in Combs' music than in, say, Strait's. Other than a little banjo or fiddle or pedal steel here and there, his band could easily be backing a heavy metal singer, with the guitar players in particular throwing thunderous riffs at the stadium all night.

Friday night's show was superbly paced, building up the excitement, then giving fans a chance to catch their breath with slow numbers like the tender "Man He Sees in Me" to a sea of waving cell phone lights, then cranking it right back up with big sing-alongs like "Hurricane" or stompers like "Cold as You." The tour has been playing back-to-back nights at stadiums around the country, and fans at Saturday's show can likely expect to see a lot of the same songs performed, just in a different order.

Desperately seeking shade: Where fans can find the coolest spots at EverBank Stadium

Friday's show reached a fever pitch a little after 10 p.m. when the crowd sang along with every word to "Beautiful Crazy," then erupted at the first notes of "Fast Car," the old Tracy Chapman song that helped Combs learn to play guitar. If you could have predicted that song as a big country hit that would get 45,000 people on their feet, you probably ought to be playing the lottery more often.

The way country music develops its young artists, it's likely that one of the openers from Friday or Saturday's show is going to be headlining their own tours in the next year or two.

Who opened for Luke Combs in Jacksonville?

Friday's show opened with Texas five-piece band the Wilder Blue. The band kicked off the evening with a gorgeous National Anthem, then rolled right into its brief set highlighted by a spirited "Dixie Darlin'." Maybe 20 percent of the seats were filled when the band came on.

There was very little time between acts at the show. Wilder Blue walked off and an army of roadies hit the stage immediately. Less than 10 minutes later, the stage was set up for the next act, Hailey Whitters, and the crew was already tuning her guitars. Thirty five minutes after Wilder Blue started its set, Whitters was on stage doing hers.

Whitters, the reigning Academy of Country Music Awards New Female Artist of the Year , was by far the poppiest act on Friday, working the stage in a sundress, boots, long ponytail and what looked like a pretty good sunburn. "I'm freaking out seeing all y'all here," she said as the seats steadily filled. She's a strong songwriter and kept her numbers short and sweet to squeeze in as many as she could in the 26 minutes she was allotted. "Everything She Ain't" and her new single, "I'm in Love," were highlights.

West Virginian Charles Wesley Godwin followed, opening his set with his own "Cue Country Roads" and closing it with John Denver's "Country Roads." He and his band, the Allegheny High, have clearly been playing together for a while, with a real tight delivery and a knack for walking the fine line between rock and country, setting mandolin and banjo against a heavy beat.

Cody Jinks was Friday's final opener and was maybe too big for the role. He and his band, the Tone Deaf Hippies, played for about 45 minutes, but could have gone on much longer and no one would have minded. Jinks, looking menacing dressed in black with dark shades and a ferocious beard, opened with "Fast Hand," which featured a pedal steel solo leading into an organ solo, something you're not likely to find in country music or anywhere else. He has the stage presence of a guy who has played on a million stages and it doesn't matter to him one bit if there are 20 people or 45,000 watching.

The stadium was nearly full by the time Jinks got the crowd singing along to "Mamma's Song." His new single, "Outlaws and Mustangs," has everything it needs to become a big summertime smash. He was halfway through his set before it finally got dark enough for the light show to be noticeable, around the time he was playing "Must Be the Whiskey."

Who's opening for Luke Combs's Saturday show in Jacksonville?

Saturday's show starts at 5:45 p.m. Openers are Colby Acuff, Drew Parker, Mitchell Tenpenny and Jordan Davis.

Top concerts playing Phoenix in May 2024: Justin Timberlake, Luke Combs, Rolling Stones

W e’ve got two huge tours playing State Farm Stadium in Glendale this month — the Rolling Stones on their first tour since losing drummer Charlie Watts in support of their first album of original material in nearly 20 years, and country singer Luke Combs, who required two nights at the stadium to meet demand for tickets to his latest tour.

There are also some massive arena tours headed our way, from Pepe Aguilar to Colombian musical sensation Feid to Romeo Santos reuniting Aventura and Justin Timberlake for the first time in five years.

And we’re not out of festival season yet, despite those rising temperatures.

Sometimes known as the Latin Madonna, this Mexican-American singer found success on the Latin pop scene of the '80s, topping Billboard's Latin Songs chart with a 1990 cover of the Barbara George hit "I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)," titled "Ya No."

These hip-hop sensations were at the forefront of the West Coast rap scene in the early ‘90s, sending both sides of their debut single — “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “The Phuncky Feel One” — to the top of Billboard’s rap charts. Their biggest hit is the classic “Insane in the Brain” from their second album. As a nod to Cypress Hill's long-standing pro-marijuana advocacy and activism, $1 of each ticket sold throughout the 13-date We Legalized It Tour will be donated to the non-profit, The Last Prisoner Project.

The Rolling Stones

This is the Rolling Stones' third time at State Farm Stadium, their first since losing Charlie Watts, the jazz-loving, sharp-dressing drummer who died in 2021. Wondering whether this could be the last time is perhaps a bit more grounded in reality in 2024 than it was in 1989 when Mick Jagger was moved to respond to the question at a press conference announcing their tour in support of "Steel Wheels" with “First asked in 1966!” But don't mistake this for a pilgrimage. The Stones' last Valley show in 2019 was a wonderfully unpolished thrill, put across with the signature cocktail of swagger and reckless abandon they've been chasing all along. Plus, they're touring on their first new album of original material in nearly 20 years and it's as good as anything they've done since "Tattoo You" in 1981.

Details: 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. State Farm Stadium, 1 Cardinals Way, Glendale. $63 and up. 800-745-3000,  seatgeek.com .

They were the toast of the post-punk revival, topping Pitchfork's year-end album list in 2002 with their first album, "Turn on the Bright Lights," and following through with the just-as-likely-to-be-showered-in-comparisons-to-Joy-Division mainstream breakthrough, "Antics," in 2004. When their latest album hit the streets in 2022, Spin magazine responded with "'The Other Side of Make-Believe' maintains the charm and intrigue that made Interpol indie darlings 20 years ago, but it also finds the band aging gracefully — these brooding New York boys are now men who embrace their emotions." And don't miss the opening set by local shoegaze revivalists Glixen.

Benny the Butcher

This Buffalo rapper is part of the hip-hop collective Griselda, founded by his cousins Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine and also featuring the great Mach-Hommy. He's joined on the Everybody Can't Go Tour by Boldy James. The tour takes its name from a brilliant new album HipHopDX hailed as "the latest addition to the empirical evidence piling up in favor of Benny The Butcher’s craftiness with words."

Details: 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. Marquee Theatre, 730 N. Mill Ave., Tempe. $46.60 and up. 480-829-0607, luckymanonline.com .

Celebrating Charlie Watts

Members of the Rolling Stones' touring band — including longtime keyboard player Chuck Leavell, bassist Daryll Jones, saxophonist Tim Ries and backup singer Bernard Fowler — will celebrate the life and legacy of Charlie Watts a day after the Rolling Stones play State Farm Stadium. They're joined by local jazz greatest Lewis Nash and Stan Sorenson. The show will feature jazz and world music arrangements of Rolling Stones classics. Ries, who leads the band with Fowler, has been playing with the Stones since 1999 and has release two albums of reinvented Stones songs, "The Rolling Stones Project" and "Stones World." Fowler has been touring with the Stones for more than three decades.

Born in Denton, Texas, this singer-songwriter rose to fame posting covers on TikTok. He’s touring the States in support of “A Hometown Odyssey,” a full-length debut that makes the most of his elastic vocal range and cathartic lyrics as it makes its way through such obvious highlights as “Shadow,” with its reassuring chorus of “It's not the devil at your door / It's just your shadow on the floor,” to the soulful majesty of the piano-driven “Last Man Standing.”

Romeo Santos, the "King of Bachata," has reunited his group Aventura for a U.S. tour titled Cerrando Ciclos. This tour is said to be the last time Santos and Aventura will join forces on stage, offering an opportunity to relive the hits that defined an era in Latin music. Aventura took bachata to new heights while blending modern rhythms with the authentic essence of the genre. In a message to fans on social media, Santos said, "I want you to join me on a journey where I will be definitively closing cycles. Because it is not the same to remember beautiful times as it is to be a prisoner of the past. We cannot stagnate in the nostalgia of yesterday, but rather move forward, discover new horizons and show other facets.”

I caught this '80s icon revisiting "Kings of the Wild Frontier" in its entirety in Tucson in 2017 and it was everything a fan could hope to witness. As I wrote at the time: "As tempting as it may have been to make some sort of reference to 'Stand and Deliver' here, I will say that he did deliver, but he didn’t do much standing, dancing and working the stage with a youthful exuberance most entertainers half his age would do well to aspire to in his black leather pants and dashing pirate garb.” He's joined on the Antmusic 2024 Tour by fellow veterans of the New Wave years the English Beat.

Phoenix Boys Choir

Phoenix Boys Choir's concert season concludes with Skyward, an energetic and exhilarating program of popular, contemporary and familiar music in collaboration with Simply Three, the Mesa-based trio of Glen McDaniel, Nick Villalobos and Zack Clark known for their high-octane performances and viral music videos. The concert also features the world premiere of Raphael Fusco's "It's a Long Way," the first-place entry in the 2023 New Works Rising Choral Composition Competition.

Details: 7 p.m. Friday, May 10. Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. $16-$43. 480-644-6500,  mesaartscenter.com . 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Orpheum Theatre, 203 W. Adams St., Phoenix. $15-$40. 800-282-4842,  etix.com .

Robin Wilson and Stephen Ashbrook

The Crescent Ballroom website has been billing this show as "iconic Phoenix alt-rock." And other than the fact that we'd have gone with Tempe, that seems right. Wilson is, of course, the singer for the legendary Gin Blossoms, who went from one of Mill Avenue's hottest reasons to get drunk to modern-rock radio hitmakers thanks to the quadruple-platinum success of 1992's "New Miserable Experience." Now based in Portland, Oregon, Ashbrook was another major player on the Tempe music scene that flourished in the '90s, fronting Satellite.

Details: 8 p.m. Friday, May 10. Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. Second Ave., Phoenix. $25-$35. 602-716-2222, crescentphx.com .

The Grammy-winning rapper is headed to Phoenix as part of a 30-city American Dream Tour with special guests J.I.D, Nardo Wick and 21 Lil Harold, in support of the chart-topping album for which the tour was named. This is 21 Savage's first metro Phoenix concert since September when he came through town with Drake on the co-headlining It's All a Blur Tour.

Details: 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre, 2121 N. 83rd Ave., Phoenix. $41.30 and up. 602-254-7200,  livenation.com .

Colombian musical phenomenon Feid has promised a groundbreaking musical journey to showcase his energy, dynamic stage presence and hit songs when the FerxxoCalipsis Tour arrives in Phoenix in support of last year's "Mor, No Le Temas a la Oscuridad," his first release to go Top 40 on the U.S. album charts. He may be best known in the mainstream for collaborating with Bad Bunny on the hit song "Perro Negro."

Riley Green

The country singer is touring the States in continued support of "Ain’t My Last Rodeo," a 2023 release that spawned his biggest hit to date, a re-recording of the title track to his first album, "Different 'Round Here," as a duet with Luke Combs. In a press release, Green said, “’Ain’t My Last Rodeo’ is inspired by what I know best: hard work, life outdoors and family and it’s going to be fun adding these new songs to our full set.”

Details: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix. Verified resale prices vary. 800-745-3000,  ticketmaster.com.

Chris Isaak

The man has worn his share of hats since "Wicked Game" turned up in David Lynch's "Wild at Heart." He's been a talk-show host, a sitcom star, a SWAT commander in "The Silence of the Lambs," No. 68 on of VH1's list of sexiest artists and a singer whose music continues to embody the qualities that made his early records so evocative. "First Comes the Night," his latest non-holiday effort, finds Isaak channeling the sound and spirit of the Sun recording artists he saluted on "Beyond the Sun," especially Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley, while sounding more timeless than retro.

This is part of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' new outdoor concert series, where artists perform as night falls on the West Bowl and audiences relax in the grass. It's been a minute since Gabriel Sullivan and Brian Lopez of Tucson's XIXA member Brian Lopez began incorporating chicha, an intoxicating Peruvian blend of cumbias and psychedelic rock, into a sound they labeled mystic desert rock. On "Genesis," their latest full-length effort, those elements are filtered through their love of old Spaghetti Western scores, Tejano and a brooding vocal presence, courtesy of Sullivan, that often ventures into territory best described as gothic. They're joined by Phoenix-based Latin folk fusion band Medio Pinto.

Waxahatchee

The Telegraph hailed Katie Crutchfield's latest Waxahatchee album, "Tigers Blood," as "another beautiful slice of country-tinged magic that never descends into nostalgia." This is true. It's also true that "Tiger's Blood" finds the American stalwart, as NME wrote, "at the top of her game." And the top of Crutchfield's game is pretty daunting stuff. The Skinny praised her previous release, "Saint Cloud," as "the high watermark of modern Americana, gorgeous in its arrangements and sumptuous in its emotional literacy."

When he’s not playing bass in Ty Segall’s band Fuzz, Chad Ubovich is carrying the torch for psychedelic music at the helm of Meatbodies, whose latest album, “Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom,” eases the listener into the acid with the trance-inducing stoner rock of “The Assignment,” one of four tracks on this headphone record for the ages that passes the six-minute threshold without wearing out its welcome. As Dusted magazine sums it up, “It is a sprawling, roaring, wild beast of an album.” And there’s no reason to believe it won’t be even better live, especially in a room the size of Rebel Lounge.

Marcus King

The young blues guitarist is touring the States in support of “Mood Swings,” a new album produced by Rick Rubin. Drawing on King’s darkest moments, the album became a beacon of hope for King, who once believed he was destined to die at his own hand, as he created it. A review in Variety suggested that "the album can overall best be described as: What if Al Green also played a mean axe and made a record about dealing with anxiety and depression?” Rolling Stone was equally impressed, saying, "The lyrical conventions of a hand-me-down genre are enlivened with genuinely personal urgency."

Wednesday's "Rat Saw God" was arguably last year's finest hour by an artist you could reasonably label "rock," an unvarnished treasure that effortlessly blurs the lines between Americana, indie-rock and shoegaze in a feedback-laden squall of sound, at times descending into pure cacophony as it does on "Bull Believer," where Karly Hartzman's tortured howls are underscored by utter chaos. As Sputnikmusic raved: "Without polish or overproduction, Wednesday sound is a powerful exclamation of a narrative, full of noise, beauty, and deeply relatable feelings and stories. It may not feel perfect, but it’s real." I would, however, argue that it couldn't hope to feel more perfect than it does.

Jacob Collier

The tour is in support of the British singer-songwriter's long-awaited “Djesse Vol. 4." Five years have passed since Collier embarked on the musical journey of “Djesse," a four-part series that’s already won five Grammys. These Toronto-based dream-pop sensations, led by Molly Rankin, earned a Best Alternative Music Performance Grammy nomination for "Belinda Says," a highlight of their latest album, "Blue Rev." No Ripcord heard the album as a huge step forward, writing, "It’s not simply an incremental improvement. It’s a quantum leap. As far as third albums go, it’s their 'Forever Changes,' 'Summerteeth,' and 'The Meadowlands' rolled into one ... It truly is one for the ages."

The Flaming Lips will headline Pure Imagination on a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” album when the festival returns to Watson Lake in historic Prescott, Arizona. Gabo Fayuca and his bandmates filter their reggae through Latin alternative, ska-punk and a hint of prog-rock. And on last year's four-song "Where the Colors Grow," they managed to sharpen their pop sensibilities, updating their sound while also playing to their strengths, especially on that title track. They're joined by Pijama Piyama, whose sound is on the psychedelic side of Latin jazz, and El Dusty.

The L.A.-based indie-rock veterans brought home raves in 2022 for "Radiate Like This," their first release in nearly six years, arriving 12 years after their acclaimed debut. Mojo hailed it as their finest work to date while Record Collector called it "an unmitigated joy" in the course of a review that raved "The four women click and connect in a way so rare that theoretically you could put the four greatest musicians in the world in a room and this level of rhythmic transcendence just wouldn’t happen." That's high praise.

The contemporary R&B star arrives in support of a self-titled album said to be a personal narrative that weaves together Tiller’s signature blend of trap and soulful R&B with fresh rap and pop elements. The album's lead single, "Whatever She Wants," became his highest-charting entry on the Billboard Hot 100 since his breakthrough single, the seven-times-platinum "Don't." Tiller's other hits include "Exchange," "Sorry Not Sorry," "Let Me Explain," "Run Me Dry" and "Insecure."

The Forget Tomorrow World Tour is Timberlake's first tour in five years. Fans can expect to hear songs from “Everything I Thought It Was,” his sixth consecutive release to crack the Top 5 on the Billboard album charts, including the hit single “Selfish,” in addition to the multiplatinum smashes you'd expect to hear from Timberlake. In March, a one-off concert at The Wiltern in Los Angeles included a surprise reunion with his NSYNC bandmates, with the group playing a medley of hits and the album track “Paradise.”

"Diamond Destroyer of Death," these local rockers' latest effort, is a modern masterpiece of psychedelic chamber pop that feels a bit like an album-length suite. There's a dynamic range that guarantees the moments meant to be majestic are, in fact, a thing of wonder, from the time they hit you with the cinematic splendor of the chorus that appears as if by magic on an opener called "Copperfield," when Owen Evans tells you "I can make the world disappear." And it kind of does disappear for the length of the album that transports you to a world of Evans' making.

Cloud Nothings

Cloud Nothings really came into their own on 2012's "Attack on Memory," an explosive assault on the senses produced by Steve Albini, a man whose reputation rests on capturing that sort of racket. Twelve years later, they're touring the States in support of "Final Summer," an album whose electrifying sound is topped by Dylan Baldi’s impassioned delivery of songs that filter heartache through a ray of hope to cathartic effect. As he puts it on the title track, “I need to be happy with what I've got for me." And as No Ripcord rightly notes,  the album “comes rich with gargantuan hooks that make you feel alive.”

Amon Amarth

The Swedish death-metal veterans, whose name is Sindarin for Mount Doom, a volcano in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, are back in the States at the helm of the Metal Crushes All Tour, their biggest North American tour to date, with special guests Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and Frozen Soul. Their breakthrough album, "Twilight of the Thunder God," was No. 6 on Metal Hammer's countdown of 2008's best albums. Kerrang! said 2022's "The Great Heathen Army" was "perhaps the strongest collection" they've released since then.

Maggie Rogers

Rogers is headed our way in support of "Don’t Forget Me" on a tour that features special guests the Japanese House, the critically acclaimed project of Amber Bain. She headlined M3F Fest in 2023, telling the crowd, "This is my first time ever headlining a festival in the United States.” It was a shocking revelation, given the total command of the stage the former Best New Artist Grammy nominee displayed in that performance. It seems she’s something of a natural, contagious, energetic presence with the kind of voice that’s bound to stop a person in their tracks with its passion and power.

The Color 8

The Color 8 have been mashing up genres, from metal to R&B, jazz, reggae, hip-hop and punk, since 2015. On “Tryna Get Paid,” their latest effort, highlights range from the punkish intensity of an EP-opening collaboration with the Dropout Kings to the soulful chorus hook of the majestic title track and the EP-closing hip-hop slow jam comparing your love to narcotics. A local four-piece consisting of saxophonist Ashton Vaughn Charles, drummer Wisco3, aptly named guitarist Kal the Guitar Hero and bassist Jerm, they’ve amassed more than 160,000 followers on social media and thousands of monthly listeners on streaming platforms. They're joined by Shrinkray.

The Grammy-nominated Mexican pop stars are back in the States, celebrating their 24th anniversary on a 12-city tour. Belanova stormed onto the Mexican pop scene in the 2000s, captivating audiences with Denisse Guerrero's smooth vocals, and the synth-pop melodies created by Edgar Huerta on keyboards, and Ricardo "Richie" Arreola on bass and guitar. Their unique blend of electropop, sprinkled with anime and nightclub influences, led to chart-topping hits like “Rosa Pastel" and “Por Ti.”

The Kid Laroi

The Australian rapper brings the First Time Tour to downtown Phoenix with special guests Glaive and Chase Shakur. His U.S. hits include "Without You," which features Miley Cyrus on the remix, and "Stay" with Justin Bieber. A review in the Guardian a few years back said, "At the first of two headline shows at Brixton Academy, he sweats out his setlist like a fever, tearing through two-minute tracks titled like confessions of teen rage."

Blackberry Smoke

These Southern-rock standard bearers are touring the States in support of "Be Right Here," a great new album Uncut called "a minor classic of the genre." Classic Rock magazine praised the songwriting, starting its review with "Can it really be 20 years since Blackberry Smoke rolled up to the back porch looking like they’d just fallen off the back of a pick-up truck and were willing to work for food? As the adage goes, they’ve come a long way since then, although geographically they’re still based pretty close to the homes they grew up in."

Madison Beer

This singer's career got a bit of a boost when Justin Bieber tweeted a link to the cover of Etta James' "At Last" she'd shared on YouTube, causing Beer to trend on Twitter. A decade later, she's touring the States in support of last year's "Silence Between Songs," a sophomore effort that was nominated in the first-year Grammy category, Best Immersive Audio Album. Beer has said the album was inspired by the Beach Boys, Lana Del Rey and Tame Impala. Beats Per Minutes said, "The main strengths of this album lie in Beer’s powerful voice and transparent lyrics."

Music of Jerry Riopelle

Jerry Riopelle was living in Los Angeles when his career took off in Arizona — a breakthrough largely fueled by heavy spins on freeform FM station KDKB (93.3). His shows became a New Year's Eve tradition in the Valley, where Riopelle enjoyed the life of an adopted local hero. The singer died of complications from cancer on Christmas Eve 2018. Members of his band (David Plenn, John Harris, Llory McDonald, Paul Riopelle, David Goodstein and Tara Austin) will reassemble with special guest singers to celebrate the local legend and the 50th anniversary of "Saving Grace," an album that dominated the Phoenix airwaves in the '70s.
