Facts and figures

Mercedes-Benz Plant Tuscaloosa.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa was founded in 1995 and was the first major Mercedes-Benz plant outside Germany. Around two-thirds of the annual production is exported, making the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International (MBUSI) one of the largest automotive exporters in the United States. Since 1997, around four million vehicles have rolled off the assembly line at the Tuscaloosa plant.

The plant is the traditional location for SUV production with the current GLE, GLE Coupé and GLS Maybach model series. Since 2022, the two all-electric models EQS SUV and EQE SUV have also been manufactured here and since 2023 also the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. The batteries for the EQ models are manufactured at the battery factory in nearby Bibb County.

Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater

The Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater sits beautifully on 15 acres amidst the banks of the Black Warrior River. Located only minutes away from the University of Alabama campus and blocks from the lively downtown district, the Amphitheater is the largest outdoor theater in West Alabama and a premier location for arts and entertainment.

With a 7,470 capacity, the beautifully landscaped Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater provides patrons with a unique, affordable opportunity to see their favorite concert or event.

The Amphitheater is not the only option for programming. The open-air theater is connected to the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, offering additional space for community gatherings that incorporate park benches, picnic areas, three miles of striped pedestrian/bicycle trails, pavilions and an interactive fountain.

The Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater was formerly the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. It was officially renamed in November of 2023.

Mercedes-Benz US International Visitor Center and Factory Tour Tuscaloosa, AL - Ins and Outs of the Mercedes-Benz

The Mercedes-Benz US International Visitor Center and Factory tour can be found in the Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. The Visitor Center Museum is closed on holidays and weekends. Tours of the factory can be taken by reservation on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The times four tours are 9am, 9:15am, 12:30pm and 12:45pm. There is a fee for admission to take the tour.

The Visitor Center/ Museum at the facility are open from 8:30am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. There are some guidelines surrounding the Mercedes-Benz US International Visitor Center and Factory Tour that visitors are asked to abide by while in the facility. The guidelines are to ensure that the facility is enjoyed while visitors remain safe and everyone in a group is expected to know and follow them.

Wheelchairs while not provided are allowed on the tour of the facility although walkers, crutches and canes are not. There are no cameras allowed and cell phones have to be turned off. There is no smoking allowed on the property.

Everyone wishing to take the Mercedes-Benz US International Visitor Center and Factory Tour must be twelve years of age or older. The leaders of tour groups are asked to pay using cash, check or credit card. The charge is $5 per person for the tours, groups with ten or more people pay a rate of $4 per person.

There is a dress code while touring the manufacturing facility that is in place to assure the safety of visitors. There are no shorts or open toed shoes allowed on the tour. Skirts or dresses should come down a minimum of two inches below the kneed. All shirts must have sleeves and visitors are asked to wear a shoe with a rubber sole. All those over 18 must have a valid ID. There are no briefcases, backpacks or like items allowed although ladies can carry a purse; security maintains the right to search items.

There are some other considerations for taking the Mercedes-Benz US International Visitor Center and Factory Tour to keep in mind. Visitors should be sure to allow additional time in the event of delays and to allow them to park to prevent forfeiting the tour by arriving late. Groups must have only the amount of people that were confirmed for the tour because of the limited amount of space. Visitors may wish to give themselves extra time for the gift shop and museum. A list of participants must be sent to the facility ten days before the tour.

The facility can be reached from Interstate 59/ Interstate 20 and use the 89 exit. Follow it to Mercedes Drive and the building with the Mercedes Star and wavy roof is the Visitor Center. There is a blue sign to lead you to the center. Groups are asked to arrive fifteen minutes before the scheduled tour time in order to register. To avoid a fee cancellations have to be done three business days prior to the tour. The tour last an hour and a half and covers about two miles.

City of Tuscaloosa to host Fourth of July Celebration on the River

June 24, 2024.

The City of Tuscaloosa will host the annual Fourth of July Celebration on the River on Thursday, July 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public and will include fireworks, live music, kids’ activities and more. Schedule of activities: 6 – 7:45 p.m.  City of Tuscaloosa Kid Zone (with games and activities for all ages) 6 – 7:50 p.m.  DJ Tank Performance 7:55 – 8:55 p.m.  Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra Performance 9 p.m.  Fireworks begin after brief remarks from Mayor Walt Maddox Attendees are encouraged to park in the free parking deck located on the corner of 7th St and 23rd Ave and take a shuttle or walk to the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater. Accessible parking will be available in the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater box office parking lot. The Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater's clear bag policy will be in effect for this event. Where to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July in Tuscaloosa

Celebration on the River , hosted by the city of Tuscaloosa, will be held on Fourth of July in the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, 2710 Jack Warner Parkway.

This year marks the first year the event is being held in the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheatre, previously known as the Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre. The venue, which has a capacity of around 7,470 people, was officially renamed in November 2023.

The free, family-friendly event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include fireworks, kids’ activities, live music by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and more.

The kids’ zone will open inside the amphitheater at 6 p.m., with games and activities for all ages.

DJ Tank will be performing from 6-7:50 p.m. followed by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, who will be performing from 7:55-8:55 p.m.

Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. after brief remarks from Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.

Attendees are encouraged to park in the free Downtown Intermodal Facility, 2230 Seventh St., and take a shuttle or walk to the amphitheater. Accessible parking will be available in the amphitheater box office parking lot.

Birmingham's Thunder on the Mountain 

The city of Birmingham's Fourth of July celebration, Thunder on the Mountain, will be held at Vulcan Park and Museum. 

At about 9 p.m. on July 4, the first of more than 2,500 shells and effects will brighten the sky around Red Mountain and Vulcan, the largest cast iron statue in the world. 

Spectators in the Mountain Brook area can watch the fireworks and listen to a soundtrack, featuring artists such as James Brown, Imagine Dragons and Neil Diamond, exclusively on iHeart media radio stations in the area. 

Vulcan Park and Museum, 1701 Valley View Drive in Birmingham, will close at 6 p.m. on July 4 to prepare for the show.  For more information and tips on viewing, go to  www.visitvulcan.com .

Comedian Tom Segura to perform at Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater in Tuscaloosa

C omedian Tom Segura will perform at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater in Tuscaloosa on Aug. 30, according to Birmingham's Red Mountain Entertainment, which books and runs the venue.
