Nautica Voyage may already be the all-time cheapie best seller. Though, there could be some older scents that are still flying off the shelves, this scent has been the front runner for more than a decade now. People really seem drawn to Voyage.

Yet, you can grow tired of a cologne and might want to try something different, but close enough to the Nautica. In this post, I want to present alternative colognes which fit the bill as being similar to or near matches (if possible) of Voyage.

What Colognes Smell Comparable to Nautica Voyage?

Original Inspiration

Ocean Mist Men by Dua – Dua is a brand that not only has its own unique fragrances they create, they also create their own inspired takes on designer scents. Ocean Mist Men, is there take on the original Voyage formulation.

Now, this is going to be somewhat more expensive than the modern Nautica Voyage sold in stores. However, it is also an extrait de parfum concentration (higher percentage of fragrance oils), which will lead to a more potent perfume.

Clean, aquatic, with that apple and mimosa combination really coming through. Worth a try, if you want a potentially higher quality version of the Voyage note structure.

Spicier Blue Mix

Polo Blue Gold Blend – The Polo Blue line is mostly only tangentially related to our targeted cologne, but Gold Blend does show some noticeable similarities to Voyage.

Still very much a version of Polo Blue, but with nods to Voyage, and a greater use of herbal spice and ambroxan than either.  The opening of this features that crisp melon note with a nice use of citrus and the spice blend.

Sage and incense play a big role here, so expect some smoky spiciness in this mix. Nautica Voyage isn’t an exact overlap here, but the DNA is closely related, particularly the use of apple. Gold Blend Review

Great Newer Flanker

Nautica Midnight Voyage – Voyage was such a monster hit for Nautica, that they keep reusing the name to release flanker fragrances. Most of them aren’t that great, but Midnight Voyage actually brings the same value with the familiar yet distinct aroma.

Amber, mint, and pink peppercorn blend with seemingly a bit of the original Voyage DNA. It has that amber/ambroxan sort of aroma, like found in the popular Dior Sauvage . It’s not the same, but you get that kind of vibe.

Midnight Voyage is a bit spicy, but in a fresh and cooling way, while retaining its nautical and summery mystique. I’m almost positive that there’s an unlisted citrus accord in here. This has gone to the discounter’s recently and is a nice pickup if you liked the original.

High End Cold Gin

Roses on Ice by Kilian – Roses on Ice is a part of Kilian’s Liquors collection. I got a sample of this stuff a month or so ago and it does have a similar structure to Voyage. Which is surprising, as this costs about 10x as much. So, I don’t expect many to go for this option.

Basically it’s ice cold gin, cucumber, and a pinkish rose with a greenish aroma. It has the same ozonic/aquatic feeling as our target with the cucumber playing the role of apple. That floral heart and a musky/woody base.

Are they exactly the same? No, Roses on Ice isn’t trying to be, it just has that similar style and approximates what it’s like to wear Voyage. But, at around $200, I don’t find it to be worthwhile.

Crisp Fruits, Less Florals

However, as it dries down, you still get the fruits but also plenty of violet leaf and wood. The middle is more herbal and the end is more earthy/woody. Connected has a really nice sweet and juicy fruit profile, but with more depth than other similar fragrances, on the market.

Reaction Connected is a lot like Nautica Voyage, but with less of the green-ish smell, and the floral notes. Melon with a ‘blue’ impression and some earthier qualities in the dry down. Kind of splitting the difference between Voyage and Polo Blue.

Drier but Fresh

There was an older cologne that was more like Voyage, but Tommy Bahama no longer produces it. But, this is a good replacement.

It opens up fresher than the Nautica. Coriander and the same kind of apple note. This goes along with lavender and violet. It will eventually dry down into a greener fragrance with a base of moss, cardamom, and cedar.

Martime Journey is a drier aromatic when compared to Voyage. It still has the floral notes and that apple sweetness. Not totally akin to the other, but if you liked Voyage, you will probably enjoy this. Maritime Journey Review

Nautica Voyage is a very popular cologne for men. It was released in 2006 by Maurice Roucel. A cologne has to be good to be able to drop this one behind.

Most of the male community loves a fresh green scent, and females love it on them, which is what Voyage provides you with.

The top notes of Voyage are apple and green leaves.

Voyage is an aquatic scent, and the apple and green leaves’ greenness adds a fresh accord to it.

The cologne is perfectly blended with citrusy and fruity notes. You also get a floral touch by lotus and mimosa in the middle. And it ends with a musky finish.

The longevity of Nautica Voyage is great. It will last 7 hours on your skin. Man of any age can pull off Voyage.

However, Midnight Voyage has proven that it is a good flanker of Voyage. It has similar traits to Voyage with its own unique characters.

Mint provides a fresh opening, just like Voyage. The florals of Voyage are replaced with pink pepper, which brings the uniqueness of Midnight Voyage. And the cologne finishes with amber.

If you see the note breakdown, you will see that Midnight Voyage only has 3 notes, which means it is a straightforward cologne but very effective.

Midnight Voyage is less versatile than the original Voyage as it is strictly for summer and spring.

Roses On Ice smells similar to Voyage, the disadvantage is it is much more expensive than Voyage. If you love having luxurious colognes, you can try Roses On Ice. It does provide good quality.

The calm and aquatic accord comes from cumber and lime. One is fresh, and the other is citrusy, respectively. Here, cucumber is replaced with apple.

The middle and drydown are very similar to Voyage. It has a light floral touch from rose, which ends with musk. Sandalwood holds the whole scent together.

Another fresh cologne for the summer and springtime.

The nose behind the cologne is Rodrigo Flores-Roux, and it was released in 2011.

The fruity notes of Connected Kenneth Cole Reaction have more depth and stay with the cologne for a longer period compared to Voyage. This provides the scent with sweet and juicy accords.

In the middle, instead of going floral, it takes a herbal approach with clary sage, which also has a floral touch but is almost nonexistent.

The cologne ends with an earthy and woody touch.

This cologne is almost identical to Voyage if you replace the florals with some herbal notes.

Connected Kenneth Cole Reaction is best for summer and spring.

The opening of Maritime Journey is much fresher than that of Voyage. It is filled with crisp apple, lavender and coriander. Lavender brings calmness to the scent, like always.

As time passes, the cologne shifts to a combination of cardamom and cedar. With the fading of violet, moss and wood come out in the dry down. This cologne’s only two constant notes are lavender and apple, which makes the cologne fresh.

The fruity notes are missing here; therefore, the sweet aspect of the fragrance won’t be found in Maritime Journey.

With moderate projection power, you will get a longevity of 6 to 7 hours, which is not terrible. People around you will notice your scent. The performance is sufficient but not outstanding with the price you are paying for the cologne.

The light and fresh cologne is best for summer and springtime.

Why it’s great : Now, for those who aren’t familiar with these products, the main use of cologne is smelling good. In contrast, body sprays help stop bad smells. A good body spray will have chemicals that limit sweating, and in this case, it reinforces the cologne to provide a better overall smell.

Why it’s great : The most accurate way I can describe this cologne is an earthier, somewhat more intense version of the Voyage. I instantly notice the difference when comparing them side-by-side, and this may be a good choice if you think the regular Voyage is too light or fruity.

Who is this for? : Midnight Voyage is one of the best long-lasting colognes, making it ideal if you expect to be out for most of the day.

Flaws but not deal-breakers : However, this cologne is half the size of most of Nautica ’s products while being significantly more expensive at the same time. Midnight Voyage is essentially a premium fragrance, better for special occasions than everyday wear. It’s not absurd by industry standards, but this is worth mentioning in case you’re on a budget.

The opening is fruity sweet, but the scent quickly adopts a more masculine slant as notes from vetiver and redwood seep in. Herbal essences from the core also bring in energy, making the cologne more lively and spirited. 

Longevity could be better (stands at 3-4 hours). Still, Nautica Voyage Sport is an excellent fragrance with a beautiful aroma. It works as a great pick-me-up, so consider having this cologne permanently in your gym bag or within easy reach when on the move.
