Pastel share new single ahead of sold out UK tour!
Pastel continue their upwards trajectory as they share their brand new single ‘Your Day’. It comes as the Manchester quintet are poised to take things to the next level, the next step being their imminent debut UK headline tour – which is now entirely sold-out – ahead of their long-awaited debut album next year.
‘Your Day’ immediately affirms that Pastel do things a little differently from the rest of the next wave pack of Brit guitar bands. The interplay between Jack Yates’ controlled-yet-charismatic topline with call-and-response backing vocals from guitarist James Yates is immediately distinctive, while the dreamy shoegaze textures of the guitars are amplified with the heft of some of Johnny Marr’s biggest riffs. Its power is heightened by its percussion: simultaneously streamlined and economical, but relentlessly on beat. In short, with the uncompromising ‘Your Day’, Pastel are holding absolutely nothing back.
‘Your Day’ was written by Pastel and produced by Afflecks Palace frontman J. Fender.
Pastel commented, “The tribal drum beat and roaring guitars are war-like, a manifestation of our mindset growing up on the streets of Manchester. Hope and optimism pepper the lyrics but the music on this tune is bellicose for a reason. ‘Your Day’ is a statement; an opening shot fired. Our debut album is coming.”
The official video for ‘Your Day’ will be released this Sunday and captures the band’s incendiary performance in stark, classy monochrome. It was directed by their friend Charlie Lightening, whose credits include high profile visuals for Liam Gallagher, The Rolling Stones and Louis Tomlinson.
Completed by Joe Anderson (lead guitar), Liam O’Shea (bass) and Rhys Wheeler (drums), Pastel have developed a strong cult following in recent years and now stand on the cusp of a major breakthrough. Their 2021 debut EP ‘Deeper Than Holy’ went straight to #1 on the UK vinyl chart and sold-out its 12” vinyl pressing in just 90 seconds. Last year saw them excel on one of the biggest stages imaginable when they were invited to open Liam Gallagher’s landmark Knebworth show, and their reputation continued to soar when their second EP, ‘Isaiah’, shot to #2 on the UK vinyl chart (fun fact: it was Madonna who kept them from returning to the top of the charts).
Expect to see Jack and James Yates hit the big screen next year. The pair both have small roles in the upcoming ‘Trailer Park Boys’ film ‘Bubbles and the Shitrockers’, which was directed by Charlie Lightening.
Pastel will follow their sold-out debut headline tour by playing Port Talbot’s Shunkfest as well as a launch party for the Cambrensis autumn/winter collection in Cardiff. The band will end 2023 with another major tour, this time as guests to The Twang. The dates are:

This Manchester band are about to go from playing at tiny clubs to opening up for Liam Gallagher at his epic Knebworth opening night. Pastel will play the biggest gig of their lives today after Liam personally requested the band to open his first night at Knebworth where 80,000 fans are expected.
The indie band, fronted by Manchester-raised cousins Jack and James Yates, will start the live music this afternoon as the first support act on the bill which also includes Amyl and the Sniffers, Paolo Nutini and Kasabian, before Liam is due to take to the stage for an eagerly-anticipated performance at 9pm. And it is all a bit of a pinch me moment for the lads.
Pastel will perform at the first of two huge gigs that Liam will play at Knebworth - fresh from his huge homecoming gig at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Wednesday night. There, fans got a taste of what to expect at the Knebworth shows, with a stirring setlist including a mix of Oasis classics and Liam's solo anthems.

Lead singer Jack Yates, 21, from Clayton, and guitarist James Yates, 24, from Droylsden, grew up on the music of Oasis and Manchester bands, and so it's a dream come true for Pastel to have been personally chosen by Liam to kick off his historic double header at the Hertfordshire park. The band, completed by Rhys Wheeler on drums, Joe Anderson on lead guitar and Liam O'Shea on bass, are travelling down to Knebworth on Friday ready for the huge gig with their performance due to take place at 2.45pm.
Jack says: "We've never played a gig anywhere near this size before. People are saying are you nervous? But I'm not nervous, it feels we were destined to do this."
James adds: "We are first on, we're opening the show, but the other bands are like 100 times bigger than us. The fact Liam has given us the opportunity is pretty amazing."
The band first came to the attention of Liam when they were asked to appear in last year's Autumn/Winter campaign for the fashion label he first started, Pretty Green. And the band had also caught the eye of film director Charlie Lightening, who worked on the Liam docupic As It Was in 2019.
James says: "He saw us on instagram, and when we brought out our first single he said this is cool and messaged to say he wanted to work with us on a video - but we said "we can't afford you!" But he wanted to do it and we ended up filming on the Hough End Playing Fields it was really cool and we kept in contact after that."
He adds: "Charlie phoned us over a year ago and mentioned the Liam gig, at the time he was only going to be doing the one date, the Saturday, and we were just joking about saying 'imagine if we could support Liam'. And he said stranger things have happened. We then found out that Liam had been asking about us, it still doesn't feel real."
It was a hugely emotional moment when the band first found out formally that they would be playing at the Knebworth show. James explains: "Jack's mum sadly passed away last year, and we got the email to say we would be playing Knebworth at his mum's funeral. It was the worst day of our life, but as soon as we got the email we took some sort of comfort, it felt like a sign. It was an emotional rollercoaster."
The band are signed to Manchester-based independent record label Spike Island, but all still work full time in their "day jobs" while they follow their dreams of making it in the music world. Jack is an electrician while James renovates old houses, and he says: "Our dream is to be creative, we'd love to live our dream with the band full time."
After the huge Liam gig, Pastel will be heading out on tour in July alongside fellow Manc band Afflecks Palace, including at Glasgow's legendary Kings Tuts on the 27th, Nottingham Rescue Rooms on the 28th, and a special homecoming show at Manchester Academy 2 on July 29th.
And while Liam will give them one of their biggest moments in the spotlight, James also found himself going viral this year when he partied with One Direction star Louis Tomlinson after his recent solo gigs. He posted a photo KISSING the world-famous pop star and James all of a sudden found himself getting a lot of new friend requests on his Insta!
James explains: "Louis was playing his gig in Doncaster his home town, first time playing there since X Factor, and we were invited ages ago, and me and my girlfriend ended up going to his afterparty. I've met him once before and he's a good lad, he remembered me even though he's a global superstar in the middle of a world tour, but we were just hanging out and having a laugh it wasn't staged.
"I posted that photo and it just went crazy, it got 40,000 likes and there's fan pages all over the world that shared that picture! I think the main reason is because I'm kissing him on the cheek and all these girls have gone into meltdown. I had all these girls asking "what did he taste like" it was crazy."
James says he's happy to have lots of One Direction fans now following Pastel as a result laughing: "It's just nice for people to know who you are."

Pantera announce first UK and Ireland headline tour in 20 years
The dates come on the heels of their slot at Download 2024
Pantera have announced their first UK and Ireland tour in 20 years – find ticket details below.
- READ MORE: Horns up! What’s driving film and TV’s metal revival?
The heavy metal icons will be headed across the pond in early 2025, and the tour will mark their first time performing headline shows here in two decades.
They first announced plans to reunite with a revamped line-up back in July 2022 – this saw Zakk Wylde ( Black Label Society , Ozzy Osbourne ) on guitar and Charlie Benante ( Anthrax ) on drums joining original members, frontman Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown.
The news broke following the band signing a deal with Artist Group International for a series of US tour dates .
Wylde took on the role from late guitarist Dimebag Darrell, who was killed onstage in 2004 . Benante, meanwhile, fills the role left by the late Vinnie Paul who died from medical complications in 2018 .
While the reformed line-up have taken to the stage multiple times across the US since reforming – including acting as support for Metallica on their ‘72 Seasons’ tour – their dates in the UK and Ireland have been limited. Up until now, they had only been booked to perform in the UK at this year’s edition of Download .

Now, they have confirmed a headline tour set for early 2025, which includes five shows and kicks off at the OVO Hydro arena in Glasgow on February 18. The tour continues the following night (19) with a stop lined up at First Direct Arena in Leeds, followed by a gig at the 3Arena in Dublin two days after that (21).
A penultimate show is scheduled for the BP Pulse Live venue in Birmingham on February 23, before the tour concludes with a stop at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on February 25.
Tickets go on sale June 21, and various pre-sale and VIP options are also available. Visit here for tickets and check out a full list of new tour dates below.
Pantera’s 2025 UK and Ireland tour dates are:
FEBRUARY 18 – Glasgow @ OVO Hydro 19 – Leeds @ First Direct Arena 21 – Dublin @ 3Arena 23 – Birmingham @ BP Pulse Live 25 – London @ OVO Arena Wembley
As aforementioned, the first UK gig Pantera have lined up is for Download Festival later this weekend, and the performance will mark their first UK appearance in three decades.
It also comes following Anselmo and Brown speaking publicly for the first time about their reformation and new line-up . “It’s empowering. It is incredibly beautiful, and you feel so much love when you’re up there. And if you take it in, it’s a great feeling, man. These days, man, that’s where me and Rex, you know, we get to dig the shows more,” Anselmo said, also going on to compare how the band have changed compared to their early days.
“When we were younger, we were at war and when we were onstage; we were just angry and at war, man. Now it’s — the songs are there. I can concentrate on singing the fricking songs, number one. Geez, that’s a relief for me, man. I don’t have to break my fricking body in part anymore.”
The reformation of Pantera has also been marred by controversy, following Anselmo being accused of racism in recent years.
Last year, two major German festivals removed Pantera from the line-up over an outcry relating to past allegations of racism , which was followed by a cancelled appearance in Vienna .
They were due to perform at 2023’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, however, it was confirmed that they had been removed from the line-ups following a public outcry.
“In the last few weeks, we have had many intensive conversations with artists, our partners and you, the festival fans, we have continued to deal with the criticism together and decided to remove the band from the programme,” read a statement from the festival at the time.
The allegations of racism date back to 2016 when frontman Anselmo offered to leave his band Down following an incident in which he was filmed carrying out a Nazi salute and shouting “white power”.
Anselmo was forced to apologise after being caught on film making the salute at the end of his performance at Dimebash 2016, a festival held in Hollywood in tribute to his late bandmate Dimebag Darrell.
Anselmo initially dismissed his actions as a “joke” before later issuing a statement that read: “Every citizen in this entire world has the unalienable right to live with dignity and respect without hate or oppression. And I mean this, with all of my crushed, yet, guilty heart.
“It’s common knowledge that we can choose to either learn from our mistakes, or continue on a path of insensitivity and destruction. I am utterly responsible for the mistakes I have made, and can only give you my word to no longer do them in the present, through action, not just mere words.”
His actions were condemned by members of the music world at the time , including Machine Head frontman Rob Flynn who addressed the story in a video , calling Anselmo a “bully” and saying: “I was there, and I could tell you for a fact that there wasn’t a chardonnay or a pinot grigio in sight backstage. In fact, the only thing you were drinking, Phil Anselmo, was Becks German beer. Maybe that’s where the joke came from.”
Anthrax ’s Scott Ian described Anselmo’s actions as “vile” soon after the event. “Friends,” Ian posted on his website, “Hate speech. Racism. Inflammatory rhetoric. All dangerous no matter what the context. I have ZERO TOLERANCE for any of this and to not speak out against them is as dangerous as the acts themselves.”

Legendary 70s rock band announce they will retire after summer tour
Share this with
Status Quo have announced that, after more than 60 years in the music business, they’ll be hanging up their guitars for good.
The British rock band, formed in 1962 as The Paladins, had the majority of their success through the 1970s and 1980s , scoring a UK number one single, 22 UK top 10 hits, and four number one albums.
Quo, as they were known to fans, initially broke up in 1984, but reunited to open the legendary Live Aid concert in 1985 – the performance was so well received that they reformed properly and were successful for years afterwards.
But now the time has come for the current five-piece to call it a day , with guitarist and lead singer Francis Rossi saying their ongoing tour might well be their last.
Rossi, who has been part of the group since 1962, said: ‘I don’t think we will go again. And as far as the rest of the band are concerned it’s the last tour too. I just can’t see us doing it one more time.’
He continued to The Mirror : ‘I didn’t want to put this current tour out saying it’s the last one ever. I did [that] once and was then coerced into coming back, but that’s another whole other f*****g story.’
The band are currently in the middle of what will now be their last ever tour, with the next shows planned for venues in Germany, before the band goes to Switzerland in July.
After doing a tour of northern Europe and Scandinavia, Quo will reach the UK, where dates in Elgin, Halifax, Margate, Liverpool, and Somerset are pencilled in for August.
First up is the Elgin date at the MacMoray Festival on August 11 before a show at Halifax’s Piece Hall on August 13, with August 15 seeing the band play Margate’s Dreamland.
The town of Bootle in Liverpool will then welcome Status Quo to its Salt and Tar venue on August 16.
Tickets are still available for all remaining UK dates, with the last ever live show by Quo set to take place at Vivary Park in Taunton on August 23, 2024.
While the band formed in 1962, Status Quo didn’t go by their eventual name until 1967, calling themselves The Paladins, The Spectres, and Traffic Jam until then.
By the time the band decided on a name and started to have success, the members were Rossi, Alan Lancaster, John Coughlan, Roy Lynes, and Rick Parfitt.
After starting out as a psychedelic pop rock band, Quo updated their sound and moved more towards hard rock stylings. Their fifth album Pilvedriver brought them sudden success in 1972.
It was then that Quo began to experience the most of their success, with hit songs Caroline, Down Down, and Whatever You Want all hitting the top 10 as they became one of the biggest rock bands in the country.
After initially splitting in 1984, the band were convinced to get back together for Live Aid – the huge charity concert at Wembley Stadium – in the summer of 1985.
Quo opened up the concert, taking stage at 12.01pm and blasting out Rockin All Over the World – a cover of a John Fogerty song which was one of their biggest hits.
In 2021, co-founder of the group Lancaster died at the age of 72 following a battle with multiple sclerosis, while Parfitt died from sepsis in 2016 – he was 68.
