S04E01 - The Trip (Part 1)

No: 41  |   Season: 4   Episode: 1  |   Air Date: 12-Aug-1992  |   Production #401

I like to take the blankets and swish them and swirl them, you know what I mean?

With Elaine in Europe, Jerry asks George to accompany him on a trip to LA and The Tonight Show; while there they will try to locate Kramer. While auditioning, Kramer must deal with the advances of an older female landlord (an actress who hasn't worked since 1934) and get someone in Hollywood to read his script treatment. A body is discovered; the victim, a young woman, was strangled. Kramer meets a woman at an audition and he gives her a copy of his script. Jerry loses the correct phrasing for some new jokes and George tries to get Lupe, the chambermaid, to make his bed just right. At The Tonight Show, George disturbs the guests and Jerry bombs. The woman Kramer gave the script to is strangled and his script is found in her possession. Kramer's face is shown on the news as the prime suspect for the "Smog Strangler," a serial-killer.

Seinfeld S4 E1 "The Trip" » Recap

Jerry and George take a trip to Los Angeles after Jerry got tickets to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno . While there, they try and pay Kramer a visit, who's trying to get a career going in Hollywood as an actor/writer and ends up being a suspect in a series of murders. This aired in two parts , with part 1 on August 12, 1992 and part 2 on August 19, 1992.

  • Affably Evil : The Smog Strangler is a serial killer but seems like a friendly guy to talk to and is a generous tipper.
  • Fred Savage appears in a restaurant Kramer is at, with the latter approaching him to give him a treatment to his movie, but his nervous tics scare him off.
  • Corbin Bernsen and George Wendt appear before the Tonight Show begins and George talks to them about his own ideas for their respective shows and when they appear later on with Leno, they make fun of his ideas, much to his humiliation.
  • Break Them by Talking : Lt. Martel attempts to get a confession out of Kramer through a scathing speech calling him the parasitic weed that he is. It works and causes Kramer to break down into tears, even though he was completely innocent.
  • Even Evil Has Standards : While discussing with Jerry and George about what to tip a chambermaid, The Smog Strangler seems disgusted by Jerry, who would tip $1 when the Strangler would tip $5.
  • Good Is Not Nice : Lt. Martel. He is dedicated to his job, but when he interrogates Kramer, whom he think is the Smog Strangler, he verbally rips him apart to the point of bringing him to tears. Also later on, Martel is investigating a victim and berates an officer over using the term "On her person".
  • Guilt by Coincidence : The police's whole case against Kramer is that the latest victim had a copy of his screenplay (which he was giving to everybody.)
  • Karma Houdini : The Smog Strangler kills three women and escapes from police custody, thanks to Jerry and George. The ending news report mentions he's still at large, although with how his name and appearance now public knowledge, apprehending him will likely prove much easier.
  • Never My Fault : As George talks to Corbin Bernsen about his experiences with an ex-girlfriend, who he neglects to feed a cat while she was away, and it ended up starving to death, but George argues it was an old cat. This story being an idea for an episode of L.A. Law .
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech : When interrogating Kramer, Lt. Martel really lets loose on him, bringing him to tears. Kramer: I didn't kill anyone, I swear! I swear to God! Lt. Martel: Don't you ever swear to my God, Kramer. My God is the god who protects the innocent and punishes the evil scum like you, have you got that? Kramer: You're making a big mistake. Lt. Martel: No! You have made the mistake, Kramer. Sickies like you always do. The only difference is that this time you're gonna pay. Kramer: What? Lt. Martel: Now you might beat the gas chamber Kramer, but as long as I have got a breath in my body you will never ever see the light of day again. Kramer: Wow wow wow wow, you've got the wrong man!! It wasn't me! Lt. Martel: Oh yeah, right. Maybe it was one of your other personalities huh, the wise guy, the little kid, the bellhop, the ball player, maybe the door to door vacuum cleaner salesman, but not you right? No, you wouldn't hurt a fly. You just couldn't help yourself, could you Kramer? You saw life brimming brightly with optimism and verve and you just had to snuff it out. Kramer: Ok, can I just talk to somebody? Can I just explain... Lt. Martel: I'm not interested in your explanations, Kramer! Sure, I bet you've got a million of 'em. Maybe your mother didn't love you enough, maybe the teacher didn't call on you in school when you had your little hand raised, maybe the pervert in the park had a present in his pants, huh? Well, I've got another theory Kramer: you're a weed. Kramer: No... (begins to cry) Lt. Martel: Society is filled with them. They're choking the life out of the all pretty flowers. You see something even remotely pretty and you have to choke the life out if it, don't you Kramer? You killed all the pretty flowers, didn't you Kramer? You killed the pretty little flowers, didn't you? You dirty, filthy, stinky weed! Didn't you?
  • Sequel Episode : To the previous one, which had concluded the previous season, "The Keys", as both Jerry and George go to find Kramer after he leaves to Los Angeles, in order to apologize for their fight.
  • Skewed Priorities : When Jerry, George, and a whole squad of police show up at Kramer's door, Kramer's only reaction to happily greet the former two and only notices the latter when they tell him he's under arrest.
  • Status Quo Is God : At the end, Kramer moves back to New York with no explanation given and Jerry and Kramer exchange their keys back.
  • Tough Room : Jerry bombs on his Tonight Show appearance, which he blames on the chambermaid Lupe throwing his napkin out, which had his act written down perfectly worded.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom : Zig-zagged here. Jerry and George go with the cops as they arrest Kramer, unknowingly letting the Smog Strangler escape, where he kills a third woman shortly after. But on the other hand, had he not killed the woman, then Kramer wouldn't have been cleared of all charges.

“The Trip” is a two-part episode that starts off Season Four , as a continuation of Season Three ’s finale, “ The Keys ”. Despite being a two-part episode, it never aired as a one-hour special.

Part 1 Part 2

seinfeld the trip part 1

Seinfeld : "The Trip, Parts 1 and 2"

Guys, it's great to be back, coming at you with season four of Seinfeld— great season, or the greatest season? This is the year when Seinfeld went from acclaimed cult comedy to genuine hit, although its status as king of the Nielsen ratings came with season five, when it became the centerpiece of NBC's Must-See TV on Thursday nights at 9 (it aired on Wednesday at 9 for its first four years, though it moved to the Thursdays at 9:30 slot for the last half of this season). This is also the year when Seinfeld captured its only Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series (every subsequent season lost to Frasier , king of the Emmys).

But most importantly, this is a year filled with classic episodes forever etched in the public mind, like "The Bubble Boy," "The Contest," "The Outing," and "The Junior Mint." Season four is the first time Seinfeld embarked on a real, season-long arc, focusing on Jerry and George's pitch for a TV show very much like the one we're watching, with a few key differences (the word "butler" comes to mind). But more on that later. Season four's opener concludes season three's cliffhanger episode, "The Keys," with an extremely madcap LA adventure for Jerry, George, and Kramer.

Related Content

The wackiness levels of "The Trip" are extremely, almost dangerously high, and for such an absurdly silly episode, it's also remarkably dark-humored; no wonder Larry Charles wrote it. I didn't remember this episode that fondly because I recalled it being bloated like many a one-hour episode, but I enjoyed it quite a lot this time around. I think, as I get older, I'm more accepting of silliness as long as it's funny, and "The Trip" is funny.

After the shock of seeing Kramer on Murphy Brown , Jerry and George decide to pay him a visit, as Jerry is going to LA to be on The Tonight Show . George comes along, four suitcases in tow ("What are you, Diana Ross?") but that's because the imperceptible changes in his clothing are all part of his mood-based dressing. "This is morning mist," he tells Jerry. What ensues are a lot of running gags, centered on Kramer's failing Hollywood career and arrest on suspicion of being a serial killer. A lot of the jokes fly; some don't.

The Kramer end of things is funnier, even though it almost feels like we're in a new TV show, some wacky spinoff where Kramer finds himself in LA (like Joey was to Friends ). Safe in the knowledge that he'll be home soon, I liked his nutty actress neighbor and her lengthy monologue on a Three Stooges movie she appeared in that involved a dead baby and saw all three Stooges executed. "That was an unusual choice for the Stooges," Kramer says, seemingly bewildered that he's become the straight man in his new situation.

Later, Kramer auditions for five different things in one office, donning big hair for a music video, doing high kicks in slacks for an exercise tape, and gagging down wheatgrass (or something) for an infomercial. There's even a great guest star appearance by Fred Savage, which got me all nostalgic for an age where Fred Savage was a viable guest-star for your TV show looking to hit it big. Finally, the cops bring Kramer in and he comes close to confessing, even though he didn't do it. Richards' hysterical weeping is ridiculously over-the-top, but it fits Kramer and the generally elevated tone of this episode.

Jerry and George's misadventures are a little more New York-y and some of them feel like padding, especially the two's annoyance at Lupe the maid for throwing away a joke napkin and tucking in the sheets too hard. I'm on George's side about the tucking, but if you don't like it, just pull 'em out! That's what I always do. George's encounters with Corbin Bernsen and George Wendt are also blatant padding but are much funnier; for one, they're such great examples of early-90s guest stars, and George's tale of the cat he malnourished to death is an exquisite example of Costanza-perceived victimhood.

Once they're out of the hotel, things are much better—their LA bafflement is satirized in a phone call with the police ("911? How are ya!"), and the cops who pick them up are eating Milano cookies ("What kind of a crazy town is this?" asks Jerry). In the car with them is perennial crazy-eyed, TV guest star Clint Howard, the real smog strangler, who gets in an argument with them over tips for a chambermaid ("Ww, Ann Landers sucks!"). The idea that Jerry and George egg each other on to be more and more childlike is a good one, being the basis for season 3's wonderful "The Limo," and that's basically what's going on here. They marvel at the cops' 12-gauge shotgun (much better than an 11-gauge) and take turns at playing with the siren.

But Larry Charles can't help but inject a little bit of pitch-black humor into this generally madcap hour by having Jerry and George idiotically let the smog strangler go from the cop car. When he kills again, Kramer is released, and the three of them dance a jig in the parking lot until the victim's sad family is led by; the tone of the episode is light enough that it doesn't feel like a downer, but if you think about it, that's pretty hilariously fucked up.

For such a crazy episode, though, there's a surprisingly calm and even emotional coda as Jerry and George, back in the apartment, are startled to see Kramer back where he belongs, rooting through Jerry's fridge and complaining about his mustard. Jerry tosses the keys back to him, and Kramer damn near breaks the table with his set. It's almost a hug moment for the famous "no hugging, no learning" show, but they get away with it, because all that's happened is the status quo has simply been restored. And why shouldn't we smile at that?

Stray observations:

  • Why no Elaine this week? She's also barely in next week's two-part episode; Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on maternity leave. She'll be back!
  • A dumbfounded-looking Larry David is one of the many crowd members at Kramer's door when the cops arrive; Larry Charles is in there somewhere too.
  • George wants to see the Backdraft exhibit at Universal Studios. Ah, 1992.
  • The C-plot of the testosterone-y LA detectives is really funny and feels almost like a shitty episode of CSI , with "Johnny" subbing for David Caruso, whipping off sunglasses and calling Kramer a weed, "choking the life out of all the pretty flowers."
  • Kramer's later-murdered blonde friend is trying to get a show about Eva Braun made. "What was it like, having sex with Adolf Hitler?" she wonders.
  • George describes Kramer's hair as wavy. Jerry goes with curly. "What'd you ask me for?" George is right.
  • "Costanza, it sounds like it stands for something; they'll believe us!"
  • Feels like an old one, but couldn't help laughing at the droll response to George asking a passer-by "Where are we?" "Earth."
  • Another dark gag wrapped in madcap lightness is Kramer asking Johnny how he knew about the guy in the park, basically admitting he got molested as a kid. Haha!
  • "Tarragon? Ah, you're crazy."
  • "If I owned a company, my employees would love me. They'd have huge pictures of me up on the wall, in their homes. Like Lenin."

‘The Trip: Part 1’

Season 4, Episode 1 - Aired August 12, 1992

As Kramer tries to make it in Hollywood, Jerry brings George with him out West when he's booked on  The Tonight Show .

Quote from Jerry

[stand-up:] Jerry: It seems to me that the closest thing we have to Royalty in America are the people that get to ride in those little carts through the airport. Don't you hate these things? They come out of nowhere. Beep beep, "Cart people, look out, cart people! Look out!" We all scurry out of the way like worthless peasants. "Ooh! It's cart people! I hope we didn't slow you down. Wave to the cart people, Timmy, they're the best people in the world." You know, if you're too fat, slow and disoriented to get to your gate on time, you're not ready for air travel. The other people I hate are the people that get on to the moving walkway and then just stand there. Like it's a ride? Excuse me, there's no animated pirates or bears along the way here. Do your legs work at all?

[stand-up:] Jerry: It's amazing to me that people will move thousands of miles away to another city, they think nothing of it. They get on a plane, boom. They're there. They live there now. Just, uh, I'm living over there. You know, pioneers, it took years to cross the country. Now, people will move thousands of miles just for one season. I don't think any pioneers did that, you know. "Yeah, it took us a decade to get there, and, uh, we stayed for the summer. It was nice. It had a pool. The kids loved it. And then we left about ten years ago and we just got back. We had a great summer, it took us 20 years and now our lives are over."

Quote from Kramer

Kramer: See, my acting technique, my personal acting technique is working with color, imagining color, then finding the emotional vibrational mood connected to the color. See, if you look through my scripts, you'll see that all my lines have a special color, so I don't memorize language, I memorize color. This way I can go through [snaps fingers] red, yellow, green, blue. And I have a full palette of emotions. Security Guard: Hey, didn't I tell you to get out of here? Kramer: Uh, did you? Security Guard: Come on, let's go. Kramer: Well, I was just-- Security Guard: Yeah yeah, you were just nothing. Come on, let's go. Kramer: All right, we'll talk about this a little later. Are you an actor?

Quote from George

Jerry: What is this? George: What? Jerry: We're going on a two day trip. What are you, Diana Ross? George: I happen to dress based on mood. Jerry: Oh. But you essentially wear the same thing all the time. George: Seemingly. Seemingly. But within that basic framework, there are many subtle variations only discernible to an acute observer, that reflect the many moods, the many shades, the many sides of George Costanza. Jerry: And what mood is this. George: This is Morning Mist.

George: Listen, are you going to be making up the bed in the morning? Lupe: Yes. George: Fine. Excellent. Could you do me a favor? Could you not tuck the blankets in? 'Cause I can't sleep all tucked in. Lupe: Oh, yes, yes. George: Yes, I like to just be able to take the blankets and swish them and swirl them, you know what I mean? You know, I don't like being all tucked in. I like to have a lot of room, you know. I like to have my toes pointed up in the air. Just like to scrunch up the blankets. Lupe: Yes, yes. It's too tight to sleep. George: Exactly. You know what I'm talking about, right? Lupe: It's too tight.

[stand-up:] Jerry: Talk show hosts never seem to have any idea how much time is left in the show. You know, they're always looking off camera, "Do we have time? Are we out of time? How we doing on time? Anybody know what the time is? What's the time? Check the time?" You never see Magnum P.I. go, "Should I strangle this guy or are we gonna take a break here? Can you stay for another beating? I'll tell you what, I'll bop him in the head, we'll do a commercial, we'll come back, I'll drive in the car real fast, stay with us."

Jerry: Hey listen, The Tonight Show called me, they want me to come out and do the show on the 28th and they're giving me two free tickets to LA. You wanna go? George: A free ticket? Jerry: Yeah, in fact we could track down Kramer. I always felt bad about the way he left, you know? That was a mess. I never should have taken back those keys. George: What about accommodations? Jerry: All taken care of. George: Is there a meal allowance? What about seat assignments? Could I have the Kosher meal? I hear the Kosher meal is good. And I need clothes. Gotta get a haircut. Gonna have to, I have to refill my allergy medication. Oh, do I need a hat? I need a hat, don't I? Could we do the Universal tour? They have that Backdraft exhibit now, that looks very cool to me...

George: Hey. Corbin Bernsen. Corbin Bernsen: How you doing? George: Big fan! Big fan. Corbin Bernsen: Yeah. George: Hey, you grew a beard, huh? Corbin Bernsen: Yeah, yeah. I'm doing a movie during my hiatus. George: Hey. You know, do I have a case for you guys to do on L.A. Law . Corbin Bernsen: Really? [later:] George: ...so mind you, at this point I'm only going out with her two or three weeks. So she goes out of town and she asks me to feed her cat. So at this time, there's a lot of stuff going on in my life and, uh, it slips my mind for a few days. Maybe a week. Not a week, five, six days. Corbin Bernsen: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what happened? George: Well, it's the damnedest thing. The cat dies. So she comes back into town, she finds the cat lying on the carpet, stiff as a board. Corbin Bernsen: So you killed the cat? George: That's what she says. I say, "Listen. It was an old cat. It died of natural causes." So get this, now she tells me that I gotta buy her a brand new cat. I say, "Listen, honey. First of all, it was a pretty old cat. I'm not gonna buy you a brand new cat to replace an old dying cat. And second of all, Igo out to the garbage, I find you a new cat in fifteen seconds. I say, you show me an autopsy report that says this cat died of starvation, I spring for a new cat." So she says something to me, like, uh, I dunno, "Get the hell out of here", and she breaks up with me. Now don't you think that would be a great case on L.A. Law ?

George: I don't wanna tell you how to run your show. George Wendt : Oh, of course not. George: But really, it's enough with the bar already. George Wendt : Yeah, well. George: Seriously, have they though about changing the setting? George Wendt : Doubt it. I doubt it. Yeah. George: Really? Because people do meet in places besides a bar, huh? George Wendt : Well, yeah, they do. [chuckle] George: What about a rec room? Huh? Or a community center. George Wendt : Yeah, you ought to write one of those. George: Yeah? George Wendt : Yeah, I'll bring it up with the producers, I gotta, uh... George: Fabulous. I'll think about that George, thank you!

George: Kramer was on Murphy Brown ? Jerry: Yeah. George: Are you sure? Jerry: Yeah. George: Murphy Brown , the TV show. Jerry: Come on, will you? George: Kramer was on Murphy Brown ? That son of a gun! Jerry: Something, isn't it? George: With Candice Bergen! Jerry: I know! George: I've always liked her. Remember her in Carnal Knowledge ? Jerry: Sure. George: Did she show her breasts in that? Jerry: She's not really the naked type.

Jerry Seinfeld ‘s comedy show on June 17 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, got disrupted by a heckler who interrupted the “Seinfeld” creator’s set by shouting: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” In video from the event shared by the Australian Jewish Association, Seinfeld was seen roasting the heckler as security escorted him outside.

“We have a genius, ladies and gentlemen. He solved the Middle East!” Seinfeld said sarcastically as the audience laughed and cheered (via Rolling Stone ). “It’s the Jewish comedians, that’s who we have to get! They’re the ones doing everything.”

“You’re really influencing everyone here,” Seinfeld mocked. “We’re all on your side now, because you’ve made your point so well, and in the right venue, you’ve come to the right place for a political conversation.”

Seinfeld has been outspoken in his support for Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He made a trip to Israel last December and met with families of the hostages taken during Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. He faced protesters in May while receiving an honorary degree at Duke University.

According to The  New York Times , dozens of students left the graduation ceremony and chanted “Free, free Palestine” in protest of Seinfeld. Others in the crowd responded to the protesters with applause and cheers of approval for Seinfeld, who began his speech with, “Thank you. Oh my God, what a beautiful day.”

Seinfeld did not address the walkouts directly during his commencement speech, although he hinted at the culture of political correctness in his advice to the graduates.

Speaking on Bari Weiss’ podcast last month, Seinfeld addressed protesters by saying: “It’s so dumb. In fact, when we get protesters occasionally, I love to say to the audience, ‘You know, I love that these young people, they’re trying to get engaged with politics … we just have to correct their aim a little bit.”

Some visitors to Israel have a new stop on their tours: Hamas' destruction in the south

K IBBUTZ NIR OZ, Israel (AP) — A new kind of tourism has emerged in Israel in the months since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. For celebrities, politicians, influencers and others, no trip is complete without a somber visit to the devastated south that absorbed the brunt of the assault near the border with Gaza .

Jerry Seinfeld, Elon Musk , Michael Douglas, former presidential candidate Nikki Haley , and Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are a few who have visited, at times posing for photos in front of burned-out homes. Many Israelis, including soldiers and security officials, are also visiting on organized trips.

“It’s our personal story, but it’s also the story of all of the state of Israel,” said Irit Lahav, spokeswoman for Kibbutz Nir Oz, who gives many of the tours.

A quarter of the approximately 400 Nir Oz residents fell victim to the attack. Hamas militants killed more than 20 and kidnapped over 80. In the dining hall, a wall of post office boxes is plastered with stickers — red for killed, black for kidnapped, blue for released.

While it's uncomfortable to open the community to visitors, she said it's important for people to “come here and smell the burned smell of death, to imagine your friends or parents here.”

Hamas militants killed around 1,200 people as they rampaged through southern Israel, and kidnapped around 250. Health officials in Hamas-run Gaza say more than 37,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war that followed.

Prior to Oct. 7, Lahav ran a tourism company. Now she has turned those itinerary-building skills to the kibbutz where she grew up. Her tour includes the spot in the fence where Hamas militants stormed the kibbutz, along with small details that humanize the scale of destruction, like the candy eggs that melted when the general store was torched.

Many of the kibbutzim and towns that experienced the worst destruction are closed to the public, accessible only via organized tours like those for dignitaries or celebrities, or by invitation from a resident.

Nir Oz decided that the guides must be residents. Rena Bazar, who lives with most of the community in temporary housing elsewhere, is among those giving tours.

At first, it was difficult to return to Nir Oz. She didn’t like the idea of strangers on the lawns and in the dining hall with its bullet-riddled windows. But eventually, she understood the importance of helping visitors understand not just what happened, but also what life had been like before Oct. 7.

“I want to make it less about the combat and more about the personal stories of people who were there,” Bazar said.

For visiting dignitaries and VIPs, trips to Israel have long included stops at famous religious or cultural sites, such as the Western Wall, Masada, the Sea of Galilee or the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and the national Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem. The visits to the battered kibbutzim and border towns are the latest way to build support and solidarity with Israel's allies abroad.

Other parts of southern Israel are open to the public and encouraging visitors — both foreigners and Israelis from elsewhere.

The city of Sderot runs “resilience tours,” connecting groups with survivors who share their memories of Oct. 7 or highlight cultural or culinary offerings. In contrast to the hardest-hit kibbutzim like Nir Oz, most of Sderot's residents have returned.

Hen Cohen, the city's tourism director, estimated that about 200,000 visitors have come during the first half of 2024, compared with 100,000 total in a normal year. Most come via solidarity missions from abroad or are local visitors such as soldiers and police officers on educational tours.

Birthright Israel, an organization that provides 10-day free trips to Israel for Jewish Americans, said that nearly all of the 13,500 participants expected this summer will visit Sderot and the site of the Nova music festival, where at least 364 people died. These visits provide an economic and morale boost to residents, Cohen said.

The Sderot police station, where 10 officers were killed on Oct. 7 in a standoff that left the station in ruins, is a main attraction. Visitors stop at the local museum, and watch security footage of what happened on Oct. 7, then walk to the empty lot where the police station stood. Twisted metal remains. Israeli flags flutter in the wind. A sign says a memorial will be built there.

“In this dark hour, I wanted to do my part to make sure the people of Israel know that the people of the United States are with you,” former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said while visiting the site. Seinfeld later cried while talking about his own visit to a kibbutz, describing it as “the most powerful experience” of his life.

Zehava Ben Zaken, a lifelong Sderot resident, said it has taken time to adjust to seeing visitors every time she walks by. “I’m happy they come to see this place, so they can understand and stand with us,” she said.

Hearing the booms from Gaza a few kilometers (miles) away, she hoped that visitors can finally understand Sderot’s precarious security situation. “We’re totally broken,” she said.

South of Sderot, the site of the Nova music festival has become a pilgrimage site for hundreds of visitors per day. Photos of victims are arranged around what had been the main stage. Loved ones have left candles, sculptures, photos and other mementos.

Standing there helped her understand the enormity of loss of life, said Naomi Hanan, a medical student from San Francisco. “It’s right in front of your face and there’s no denying or ignoring what you’ve been hearing or seeing through the media,” she said.

In a eucalyptus grove near the site, an organization called Triumph of the Spirit offers virtual reality tours of three kibbutzim, including Nir Oz. The tours are currently only open to soldiers on official educational visits, but an English version will be available in the coming weeks for international tourists.

“I feel like I’m in Fortnite!” one soldier said as he slipped on the headset, then went silent as images of destruction appeared.

The videos were created by Miriam Cohen and Chani Kopolovich, who had created such tours of Auschwitz for a Holocaust education experience for people who don’t travel to Poland.

“We’ve made it accessible to go on this tour without damaging peoples’ privacy,” said Pinchas Tosig, who runs the tent and has 300 to 700 soldiers visit per day.

Some residents of southern Israel are looking beyond the visitors to the future.

In the coming weeks, Nir Oz will start demolishing some buildings to make way for new construction. Residents wonder how to preserve what happened while making space for new lives. Some say part of the destruction should remain. Others don’t want reminders — or visitors.

On one tour, Bazar pointed out the safe room where she spent hours hiding on Oct. 7. Her home was mostly spared. Others were burned. She doesn’t want the destruction to remain inside Nir Oz and hopes any future memorial will be elsewhere.

“I don’t want any child to be impacted by the ruins,” she said. “Our cemetery is full. Isn’t that memorial enough?”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in Nigeria

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle better get a move on if they want to rejoin the royal family.

Royal expert Richard Eden said on the Daily Mail’s “Palace Confidential” show Friday that the Sussexes are “running out of time” to be welcomed back into the fold as working royals by Harry’s estranged family.

“Time is running out to come back while his father is still King,” Eden said in reference to King Charles III, who became monarch in 2022 after Queen Elizabeth II’s death .

Eden added that “if Harry wants to come back at any stage, he needs to do it while his father is still King.”

Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, quit royal life in 2020 and hightailed it across the pond to Montecito, California.

Since then, the couple — who have two children together — have created tension with the royal family by exposing their secrets in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, their six-part Netflix documentary, and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”

According to Eden, Harry and Meghan will have a much harder time rejoining the royal family after Harry’s cancer-stricken 75-year-old father dies and his brother Prince William becomes king.

“I really think that when Prince William is King, I can’t see him letting Harry come back and have a role again,” said Eden.

“They are irrelevant now, they are just not wanted as part of the monarchy, maybe there could be some radical change but it’s hard to see,” he added about the Sussexes.

In March, royal expert and author Tom Quinn claimed that Harry and Meghan expressed interest in helping with royal duties while Charles and Kate Middleton both battle cancer .

“Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms — it’s a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes,” he  told the Mirror .

“As I understand it from palace contacts, they are kidding themselves if they think they will be invited back in any way,” Quinn added.

The Post revealed in February  that Charles has been toying with the idea of having Harry back on a temporary basis. However, it emerged that William, 42, was reportedly “blocking” Harry’s return  to the royal fold in a desperate bid to protect his ailing wife.

When Kate, 42, announced her cancer diagnosis to the world in March, Harry and Meghan  said in a statement that they hope for privacy  for the mother of three as she started treatment.

It was also reported that Harry and Meghan  made contact with the Prince and Princess of Wales  “privately” after Kate’s announcement.

However, Harry and his wife still haven’t mended fences with his brother or his sister-in-law.

They aren’t speaking to Charles either, though Harry did briefly visit his father in London after learning of the king’s cancer diagnosis in February.
