I’m travelling often to Barcellona and I usually stay in this hotel because of the location and the people kindness. Thank you, See you soon!
The location is the best part of this hotel and the breakfast was good as well.
Great location, smooth check in, very efficient staff & very good breakfast
Great location, the hotel was well secured and the rooms were large and clean. We had a balcony room which had an amazing look over the city.
Breakfast was awesome. People were entertaining to watch from my window. Location was perfect for me.
It’s my second time I’m selecting this hotel and again I’m absolutely love it! Welcoming bottle of wine and some sweets so nice! Amazing room with fabulous Rambla view ! Nice breakfast and perfect location making the staying fantastic! Definitely will come back again!
We had a balcony room with double bed. we kept the bedroom window open at night, it was noisy but that's what we expected from La Rambla :-)
Spacious room and bathroom. Very clean. Excellent location in the centre of the city. Helpful staff. Superb breakfast.
The location was excellent, where I can walk most of the hot places in the city. The staff was kind.
The front desk executives are the first people you meet while check-in & they leave the first & last impressions of your stay. Carmen was the one who genuinely tried to give us a room prior to our official check-in time & that was a huge favour after 10 hours of long flight & struggle. Javier was the one to give us a kind of upgrade which we didn't book for. He gave us a slightly bigger room with a Balcony. The rooms were pretty spacious & the bathrooms were of good size too. The location of the hotel was the bestest part. Centrally located & we didn't use any public transport throughout our stay because every attraction was max 20-25 mins walk. Restaurants, Souvenirs, Attractions, Supermarkets, Parks, Clubs - everything was at minutes walk. The hotel is well kept with amazing staff in both shifts. Thanks to the housekeeping team who used to keep our rooms spiky clean everyday. I can't thank enough for this unforgettable experience.
Excellent location!

This popular European city is the latest to increase its tourist tax to battle overtourism
Barcelona is the latest European city to increase its city-wide tourist tax, a slight increase of €0.50 (about $0.53) per night, as the city seeks to curb overtourism.
The new price of €3.25 (about $3.45) was implemented on April 1 as part of the Stays in Tourist Establishments Tax . The bylaw was introduced in 2021, when the tourist tax was €0.75 (around $0.80) per night, and gradually increased the tax each year through 2024. Now, if someone is staying in Barcelona for seven nights, the new total tax amount will be €22.75 (around $24).
“It was the objective sought: to contain the number of tourists and increase tourist income because our model is no longer mass tourism but quality tourism, which adds value to the city,” deputy mayor Jaume Collboni said in March, according to Euronews .
The tax is added to a tourist’s accommodations bill when they stay at official tourist establishments in the city. The money goes toward enhancing the city’s infrastructure, such as improving roads.
Other popular European destinations, such as Amsterdam and Venice, also recently increased tourist taxes for similar reasons.

Are tourist taxes the future of travel? What to know about the increasing tourist fees worldwide.
“The new and increasing tourist fees across Europe allow cities to fund measures to attract more vacationers, support the local infrastructure and businesses, as well as preventing damages from overtourism,” Tiffany Mealiff, a travel insurance expert at Quotezone , said in a statement to USA TODAY.
However, Barcelona visitors have had to pay a regional tourist tax since 2012, according to Euronews . This tax amount depends on a traveler’s accommodation type, costing more if someone is staying at a luxury hotel than an Airbnb.
Barcelona continues to reign as Spain’s most popular tourist destination. In 2022, Barcelona welcomed 9.7 million tourists , just slightly below pre-pandemic levels in 2019, according to the Barcelona City Council. However, tourists were found to be staying in the city longer than in 2019.
In 2022, the city also sought to cap the number of people in a tour group and ban megaphones by tour guides in an effort to curb the disruptive effects of overtourism.
Travelers planning their European getaway should be mindful of the additional costs that “are often not obvious beforehand,” according to Mealiff, as they plan their trip budgets.

Barcelona’s Tourist Tax Just Got Higher. Here Are Other Places That Will Cost You to Enter in 2024
B arcelona, one of Spain’s most visited cities , has just announced another hike in its tourist tax. This increase comes after multiple tourist destinations have implemented visitor fees in response to the problems caused by excessive tourism .
Overtourism, characterized by an overwhelming number of visitors that exceeds a location’s capacity, has led to increased environmental degradation, infrastructure strain, and a diminished quality of life for residents. Several cities and countries have implemented or increased tourist taxes to mitigate these effects. The funds also typically support necessary infrastructure and environmental protection projects.
The Rising Cost of Barcelona’s Welcome
Barcelona raised its tourist tax for the first time since 2022. The increase signals a continued effort to control the number of visitors. Since introducing the tax in 2012, the city has utilized these funds for essential infrastructure, including bus routes and roadwork. As of April 2024, the municipal fee has increased to $3.52 (€3.25) per night, up from $2.98 (€2.75) in 2023.
This tax applies to every visitor staying in official tourist accommodations. Guests will pay $3.79 (€3.50) per night for five-star and luxury hotels, $2.43 (€2.25) for holiday rentals like Airbnb, and $1.84 (€1.70) for four-star hotels. Meanwhile, cruise passengers must pay 3 euros ($3.25) for city tours shorter than 12 hours and 2 euros ($2.17) for longer ones.
Tourist Taxes Around the World
Barcelona is not alone in its approach. Various tourist hotspots worldwide have adopted similar measures . These destinations have introduced or increased tourist taxes to preserve their natural and cultural assets while ensuring that visitors contribute their fair share to the upkeep of these places.
Portimão and Olhão in Portugal have introduced a tourist tax that differs from high to low season. Charges vary from $2.13 (€2) per night starting from April to October and $1.07 (€1) per night from November to March. Children under 16 are exempt, and the tax is capped at five nights. This means the maximum additional cost per trip is $10.65, or €10.
In light of the upcoming 2024 Olympics , France also has significantly increased its tourist tax on hotel rooms by 200 percent as of January 2024. Depending on the city, the tax can reach up to 15 euros per night, or $15.98. This fee is a substantial increase to fund the expected influx of visitors and the related infrastructure needs.
Likewise, visitors to Bali must pay a fee of approximately $8.52 upon entry, collected at Ngurah Rai International Airport. This tax is designated for environmental protection projects, addressing the impact of decades of over-tourism on the island’s natural beauty.
After years of debate, Venice has also decided to charge an entrance fee of €5 to visitors on weekends and peak days between April and mid-July. The cost is applicable during peak hours to minimize queues and encourage more extended stays rather than day trips.
Looking Ahead
As tourist taxes become more prevalent, travelers must stay informed about the additional costs of visiting certain destinations . These taxes reflect the broader trend towards sustainability and responsible travel, emphasizing the need for travelers to contribute to the preservation and upkeep of the places they visit.

Barcelona Is Throwing Tourists Under the Bus
No one likes overcrowding, but cities should be careful not to make things too difficult for visitors..
As the summer tourism season approaches, a perennial question arises, and technology is giving it a novel twist: Is a place primarily for those who live there, or for the entire world?
The latest salvo in this conflict comes from Barcelona. Bus No. #116 goes to Antoni Gaudí’s Park Güell, one of the top tourist destinations in the city. Neighborhood and bus crowding, however, induced the city council to remove the bus route from Google and Apple maps. So getting to Park Güell is now harder for tourists — which doesn’t bother the locals one bit.
And this is no isolated incident. New York City has placed severe restrictions on Airbnb in an effort to restore the supply of apartments for the city’s residents, rather than tourists. Amsterdam tells British “party tourists” not to visit the city, for fear they indulge in too much drink, drugs and sex. Japan is hiking the price of the bullet trains for tourists by 70%. Venice is charging day trippers five euros a visit.
And then there’s the unofficial discouragement: Natives of Medellin, Colombia, recently went around to heavily touristed bars and demonstrated against the patrons. In Spain, anti-tourist protesters are targeting beaches and restaurants.
Whether you side with the tourists or the natives will of course depend on the place, as well as your status as a visitor or local. I like to think I’d always be on the side of the tourist — even in my home state of Virginia. Here are a few reasons why.
First, most of these decisions are made by city, local and national governments. They answer to their voters and domestic interest groups, not to foreigners. If anything, the interests of foreigners are underrepresented. That doesn’t mean tourists should always get extra consideration, but there is a prima facie case on their behalf.
Second, as an economist, I am a big believer in the price mechanism. Prices balance supplies and demands without requiring much explicit political interference in private decisions. When a tourist experience costs more, tourists themselves can decide whether it is worth it.
By this reasoning, the Japanese decision to raise bullet train prices for tourists is exactly the right approach. In the meantime, the Japanese government, which faces high pension costs, has more money at its disposal. There is no need to resent or otherwise restrict the tourists at all, and indeed I have found the Japanese people to be extremely gracious and helpful to foreigners. Higher prices for tourist train tickets will make it easier for them to stay this way.
If there is any problem with Venice’s five-euros-a-day charge, it is that it is not nearly high enough, given crowding and accumulated wear and tear on the city. How about 50 euros? But with a smile!
The same goes for the bus in Barcelona: Why not raise the fare? Just for tourists. It is easy enough to enforce this differential treatment with spot checks on the bus line. An alternative or possible complement to this plan is to run more buses to the park, to alleviate congestion. Higher fees for tourists can help pay for them.
Of course many tourists will choose to walk to Park Güell, as I did during my last visit. If the entire neighborhood is still too crowded, raise the entry fee . But please: Let the tourists have working GPS systems.
Amsterdam has a more difficult challenge. Barcelona and Venice have some unique attractions and sites that can be priced at higher levels, with exclusion applied to non-payers. In contrast, for many Amsterdam tourists the attractions are booze, pot and sex, all of which have prices set in basically competitive markets. I’m all for more expensive tickets to the Rijksmuseum, but that might not make much of a difference to Amsterdam’s “party tourism” problem.
In that case, Dutch governments might consider higher taxes for those entire sectors, maybe with rebates for Dutch citizens. In Medellin, the mayor has banned prostitution for six months, in part a response to tourist demand, including for child victims of sex trafficking.
In New York City, one obvious way to address the shortage of affordable housing is to allow for the building of additional hotels, housing and apartments. Tourist dollars sustain so many of New York’s great cultural institutions.
As for myself, I am headed to Cape Town in a few months. Due to higher crime and erratic electricity supply, many tourists have been staying away from South Africa. It is the fate of countries to have either too many tourists or too few. All things considered, the former problem is the better one to have.

Barcelona bus route removed from map apps to tackle tourist overcrowding
Residents welcome removal of number 116 route, often used to get to Park Güell
While some places will go to any lengths to attract visitors, residents of La Salut neighbourhood in Barcelona are celebrating a move to wipe themselves off the map.
For years, residents had complained that they could not get home because the number 116 bus was always crammed with tourists visiting Antoni Gaudí’s Park Güell. The park is the city’s second most popular attraction after the Sagrada Familia basilica.
Now they have the bus to themselves after the city council arranged to have the route removed from Google and Apple maps.
“We laughed at the idea at first,” said César Sánchez, a local activist. “But we’re amazed that the measure has been so effective.”
Luz López, 75, told elDiario.es: “Before, the bus was so full even people with walking sticks couldn’t get on.”
Albert Batlle, the deputy mayor of security and coexistence on the city council, said that as well as improving mobility around Park Güell, “we needed to eliminate references to the 116 on the internet”.
Batlle declined to admit or deny that the council had asked for the route to be removed, while a Google spokesperson would only say they would not delete a bus route unless requested to do so by the council.
Sánchez, who has been campaigning for eight years for the council to address the problem, joked: “The next thing we need to do is to get the whole of Park Güell removed from Google Maps.”

Erin Cuthbert's first-half goal proved enough for Chelsea to gain a memorable 1-0 victory in Catalonia last Saturday. Barcelona had not lost a competitive home match since 2019, and had not failed to score in a home Champions League game in more than eight years, but were restricted by Chelsea to just a single shot on target.
As for the Blues, they added Barcelona to a list of teams they have beaten away in the last two years that already included Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain, not to mention their 3-0 first-leg quarter-final victory at Ajax in March.
However, they have been vulnerable at Stamford Bridge; after winning 1-0 at Lyon in the quarter-finals last season, Chelsea ended up needing an added time of extra time equaliser and shoot-out success to go through at home, and a few weeks later they lost 1-0 to Barcelona in London after Caroline Graham Hansen made the difference in their semi-final opener.
The return ended 1-1 (the only game Barcelona did not win in the 25-game unbeaten home European run that ended against Chelsea) as the Blaugrana went on to claim their second title in three seasons, two years on from defeating the Blues 4-0 in Gothenburg. But now Barcelona need to overturn a first-leg deficit to advance, something they have only managed once before, in the 2018/19 round of 32, when they lost 3-1 at BIIK-Kazygurt but won 3-0 at home on their way to a debut final.
Defender Mapi León remains sidelined for Barcelona, while Chelsea are missing long-term absentees Sam Kerr, Mia Fishel and Aniek Nouwen as well as Maren Mjelde. Millie Bright was an unused first-leg substitute for Chelsea but not made it on to the pitch since her November knee injury.

View from the camps
Emma Hayes, Chelsea manager : "We have underperformed against Barcelona at home. Barcelona have another level in them and I think that's clear. Maybe they don't feel they were at their best [in the first leg] and we have to anticipate that."
Jonatan Giráldez, Barcelona coach : "The strategies we work on will be the key. It's OK in the good moments, when things are easy. But in the bad moments, when the performance is not as good as we expected before the game, we all have to show our real character. I have a lot of confidence in my team. All we have to do at Chelsea is win the game."
Keira Walsh, Barcelona midfielder : "It's definitely not beyond us. We had chances at the end [of the first leg] and we can take a positive from that. Everybody fights for the badge; that's what we'll do at Stamford Bridge. This is such a special team and I have full faith that we can do it."
