Olympus Trip AF 50

  • Brand: Olympus
  • Name: Olympus Trip AF 50
  • Type: Snapshot camera
  • Type of Film: 35mm
  • Focal length: 28 mm
  • Maximum aperture: f/6.7
  • Focus: Autofocus
  • Shutter speeds: 1/100 s
  • Flash / Flash connection: Built-in flash
  • Release date: 2002
  • Age: Up to 22 years

The Olympus Trip AF 50, a snapshot camera from Olympus in 35 mm format, offers uncomplicated handling. Similar variants such as the Olympus Trip 600 and Olympus Trip 500 complete the range. Production took place in a Chinese factory.

The fixed lens with 28 mm focal length and maximum aperture of f/6.7 is ideal for snapshots, landscape and group shots. The focus does not allow manual distance adjustment, and a minimum distance of 100 cm to the subject is required for sharp images. Macro shots cannot be realised optimally.

Exposure settings are controlled by the built-in light meter for films with ISO 100 to ISO 400. The automatic exposure function does not allow manual selection of exposure time and aperture, with the shutter speed set to 1/100 second.

The built-in flash is useful in low light conditions with a range of up to 1.9 metres. A tripod thread facilitates group shots, while a self-timer is missing. The camera requires two AA batteries ( eBay / Amazon * ), although rechargeable batteries are a sustainable option.

Films for the Olympus Trip AF 50

What types of film are suitable for the Olympus Trip AF 50? Despite the digital photography boom, the camera shows a nostalgic affection for analogue film and uses 35 mm film.

For colour shots, Kodak Ultramax 400 * is recommended. Black and white shots are possible with the Ilford XP2 Super * . Both films show solid performance according to various test reports.

The C-41 development process is suitable for processing colour films and is offered by most photo labs. In Germany it is possible to have colour films developed in large drugstore chains.

The Olympus Trip AF 50 has an exposure area of 24 mm x 36 mm and the film transport is automatic. A counter on the top shows the number of photos taken, while a window on the back shows the film loaded.

Olympus Trip AF 50 Quartz Date

In addition to the normal model, there was also a Quartz Date version. This version of the Trip AF 50 offered the option of imprinting the recording time and date on the images. This function was very popular as it made it easy to reconstruct the dates of the photos taken. The disadvantage is, of course, the visual impression that a date gives in the pictures. Thanks to Exif data, this no longer plays a major role in digital photography.

We want you to shoot film, we're a little different from your usual camera shop. we only started selling camera's after being bombarded with requests for a shop that sold honest priced, working & guaranteed cameras. we started in 2010 from a market stall in brick lane, london & quickly went on to open our own shop.  , what it covers, mechanical or electronic faults your camera may develop over one year from date of purchase. , what it doesn't, sadly, we can't cover any cosmetic issues, or anything we deem to be due to negligence or accidental damage e.g scratching the lens, dropping your camera or sitting on it., *we will always do our best to find a solution that works for everyone, but we have to say the decision of our trusted repair people is final..

  • Description

Originally release in 2002 the Olympus Trip AF 50 is on the last models from the infamous Olympus Trip line. Featuring a 28mm ƒ5.6 Olympus lens, everything fully automatic. The iso is controlled by DX encoding, which basically means it reads it off the film cassette itself. The camera literally has 2 buttons, the shutter button and the lens cover release, which also doubles up as the on/off switch.

A great little cheap camera for anyone starting out, or anyone looking for a camera for festivals or adventures!

The Trip AF 50 is a compact auto focus 35mm camera introduced by Olympus in 2002. A quartz date version was also available called Trip AF 50 QD. It was launched with 3 other models a similar but higher specified Trip AF 51 and 2 fixed focus cameras (Trip 500 & Trip 505) which were all intended for emerging markets in the developing world. It is part of the Trip AF series introduced in 1984.

The camera features a 28mm f/5.6 auto focus glass lens with a focus range of 0.8m to infinity. The camera is protected with a lens barrier that also acts as the power switch when uncovering the lens. The shutter has a single speed of 1/100 of a sec. The built in flash has red eye reduction and a range of 0.8 to 2.3 meter with 100 ISO film and 0.8 to 4.6 meter with 400 ISO film. The film counter is additive and automatically resets when reloading film. It uses DX coded film of 100, 200 and 400 ISO with non coded films set at 100 ISO. Film is automatically motor advanced to the first frame, and stops at the last. The rewind switch is on the bottom base of the camera next to the tripod mount. Power is with two AA batteries which last approx 20 rolls of film. The Trip 50 QD model can imprint in multiple formats including day-month-year, day-hour-minute, month-day-year, year-month-day and off.

Every camera we sell is vigorously inspected by our team. Our ten-part inspection method includes the following checks:

  • Lens - we check for any mould, dust, haze, dirt, cracks and air bubbles. Where possible we clean/remove any imperfections – any remaining are noted.
  • Zoom – we inspect both manual and power zoom work smoothly. Any issues are noted.
  • Focus – we check that manual focus is smooth and works well. If automatic focus is included as a feature that is also checked.
  • Motor / Claw – we check that the motor runs smoothly at all advertised speeds and that the film claw has sufficient torque to advance film.
  • Filmgate – this is inspected and any dirt or hair is removed.
  • Lightmeter – the lightmeter is inspected to ensure it automatically reacts correctly to light. Manual aperture control and/or backlight is also checked if included as a feature.
  • Viewfinder – we inspect for mould, dust and haze or damage. Where possible we clean/remove any imperfections – any remaining is noted.
  • Battery terminals - we inspect for rust/corrosion, cleaning and repairing where needed.
  • Body – where possible we clean any imperfections. Any remaining cosmetic damage is noted.
  • Additional Features – all additional model specific features (such as timelapse or crossfade) are checked for functionality.

Birmingham-Southern’s baseball team flooded with funds for World Series trip as school sets to close

  • Copy Link copied

CLEVELAND (AP) — The baseball team soon to be without a school has a growing fan base.

Birmingham-Southern’s inspiring, unexpected journey has won over some hearts.

The Panthers, who have kept their season alive as their school is on the brink of shutting down for good on Friday, have captured interest with supporters raising over $100,000 to enhance their trip to the Division III World Series.

As of Wednesday morning, a GoFundMe page had grown to $105,000 with an anonymous donor giving $2,500.

Trey Hines, the sports information director for the school from Birmingham, Alabama, for at least a few more days, said the support has been overwhelming.

“It’s been crazy,” Hines said by phone.

Before taking a chartered flight to Cleveland, the team gathered Wednesday at Birmingham-Southern one last time for a light workout.

Birmingham-Southern advanced to the World Series in Eastlake, Ohio, on Saturday despite the team being flattened by what was initially thought to be food poisoning. Two players had to be hospitalized and others received fluid intravenously behind the dugout during the Panthers’ win over Denison.

Coach Jan Weisberg said the sweeping illness was a strand of norovirus.

FILE - North Carolina linebacker Cedric Gray (33) and defensive back Don Chapman (2) combine to bring down Appalachian State running back Nate Noel (5) during the second half of an NCAA college football game, Sept. 9, 2023, in Chapel Hill, N.C. North Carolina state legislators advanced a bill Tuesday, June 4, 2024, that would require the state’s two largest public universities — the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and N.C. State University — to play each other annually in football and basketball and play three other top public system schools regularly. (AP Photo/Reinhold Matay, File)

Following Saturday’s 7-6 win that clinched the World Series berth, three more players got sick, including slugger Ian Hancock. Weisberg is hoping his team has weathered the worst of the 24-to-48 hour stomach bug.

“Just looking at the roster it can’t be too many more,” Weisberg told al.com. “I think we’re able to get ahead of it now at least because we know what it is. The team doctor says it presents itself like food poisoning. That’s why we initially thought it was food poisoning.”

The NCAA is paying their travel expenses to get to Ohio and home, but the added money can go toward other expenses like rings to honor the Panthers making it out of the Super Regional. The remaining funds are planned to go to the coaching staff.

On Friday, Birmingham-Southern will play on the same day that the private liberal arts college, founded in 1856, closes due to financial problems. Unable to secure a $30 million loan, school officials voted in March to shut down.

The Panthers have been swinging since — going 19-4 since the decision — and if they keep winning, they’ll be the only thing keeping Birmingham-Southern in existence.

They’ll open the double-elimination tournament — hosted by the Lake County Captains, one of the Cleveland Guardians’ minor league affiliates — against No. 2 seed Salve Regina (Rhode Island) on Friday.
