How to roam on Vodafone UK

Anyron Copeman

Vodafone UK lets you use your phone in over 150 countries around the world, but some countries are free to roam in for some customers, while other countries incur daily charges or will require you to buy an Extra in advance.

We’ve broken down how roaming works for both Pay Monthly and Pay As You Go Vodafone customers – including countries where you can roam for free.

Pay Monthly Vodafone customers

Vodafone has split the world into five zones for Pay Monthly customers:

  • Zone A: Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland, and Norway
  • Zone B: 47 European destinations including EU countries
  • Zone C: 32 worldwide destinations including Australia, New Zealand and the US
  • Zone D: 75 worldwide destinations including Argentina and Vietnam
  • Rest of the World: 69 destinations, split into four numbered zones

See which destinations are included in each Zone at Vodafone .

Roaming in Zone A is included in all plans. The cost of roaming outside of Zone A depends on which plan you’re on and where you go. To find out which plan you’re on, log in via the Vodafone website .

If a Zone is not included in your plan, this is what you’ll pay:

  • Zone B: £2.25 per day (but buying an 8- or 15-day European roaming pass is also an option)
  • Zone C: £6.85 per day
  • Zone D: £6.85 per day
  • Rest of the World: you may be able to buy a Rest of the World roaming pass, or if you bought your plan before 21 February 2024, you can pay for each megabyte of data you use

To find out about European passes, visit Vodafone (you’ll need to scroll past Pay As You Go information first). If you’re a new customer, you can see all the plans and choose the right one for you. You can also use Vodafone’s roaming charge checker to find out what calls will cost you in different destinations.

The full list of Vodafone Pay Monthly plans is available on its website .

Pay As You Go Vodafone customers

For Pay As You Go customers, there are four zones:

  • Around the World: 73 destinations

Roaming in Zone A is included in your plan. Outside of Zone A, roaming charges depends on your plan and destination. But you’ll almost certainly need to buy a Europe Roaming Extra , an Around the World Extra , or Rest of the World Extra, depending on where you’re travelling. If you don’t buy an Extra in advance, most Pay As You Go users won’t be able to make or receive calls, send texts or use data. You can see all the Pay As You Go Extras on the Vodafone website , buy Extras and see all the Pay As You Go plans .

Vodafone roaming zones

  • Zone A – Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland, and Norway
  • Zone B – 47 European destinations including EU countries
  • Zone C – 32 worldwide destinations including Australia, New Zealand and the US
  • Zone D – 75 worldwide destinations including Argentina and Vietnam

You can find out which countries are included in which zones at Vodafone .

Purchased your plan before 11 August 2021?

The above information won’t apply to you. You’ll need to log in via the Vodafone website to find out where you can roam.

Vodafone rates on a flight or at sea

If you use your phone while on a ferry or plane, this may connect you to a Maritime or Aerospace network. In this case, when contacting a number in the UK, Vodafone charges the standard  Maritime/Aerospace roaming costs, which are as follows:

  • Making calls – £2.40 a minute
  • Receiving calls – £1.80 a minute
  • Sending texts – 60p per text
  • Picture message – Not available
  • Data – Not available

If you go over your allotted monthly text, call or data allowance, you can use Vodafone’s charge checker to find out what it’ll cost you.

Global Roaming Plus with Red Entertainment or Unlimited Max plans

Customers who bought a Red Entertainment Plan between 4 September 2018 and 9 July 2019 automatically get Global Roaming Plus, along with customers who bought an Unlimited Max plan from 10 July 2019 onwards.

Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers travelling within the Europe Zone won’t be charged any additional roaming fees if you stay within your usage allowance. This applies to PAYG Extras , PAYG Bundles and PAYG 1 services.

If, however, you travel to a Roam-Further country (Afghanistan, for example) you would need to pay a separate roaming rate. The rates vary by country. Find your rate by destination using Vodafone’s tool .

If you’re travelling within the Europe Zone and are not on any of these Pay As You Go plans, or if you use up your included data, minutes and texts, you’ll need to pay the standard UK rates, which are:

  • 55p per minute for calls to UK mobiles, landlines and voicemail
  • 35p per text message
  • 55p for a UK picture/video message
  • 55p per minute for video calls

Vodafone data roaming charges

To see all the call charges when travelling abroad, have a look at Vodafone’s roaming charge checker . Charges vary depending on which Zone you’re calling from, and which Zone you’re calling to. If you go over your allowed data, you can find out what out-of-plan calls, texts and services will cost.

Other things to know

  • You can also see how to turn on roaming on your device using Vodafone’s guide
  • Some Vodafone monthly plans may include Amazon Prime, Spotify Premium, NOW TV, YouTube Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV. Not all these services will work abroad, or might have limited access. Find out if you can use your entertainment pack abroad

European Roaming Breakthrough: Vodafone Offers Simple, Worry-Free, Integrated Plan

vodafone easy travel flat england

Vodafone Group today announced that millions of Vodafone customers travelling within Europe this summer will for the first time benefit from new roaming price plans which combine calls, texts and mobile internet access for a daily payment of €3 or €4.

The new roaming plans enable customers to use their communications services as though they were at home for a small payment on top of their current home market deals.

The price plans have already launched in some of Vodafone’s European markets, with others set to follow shortly. By the summer holidays, customers in the UK, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Romania and Turkey will be offered some of the most competitive rates for calls, texts and data roaming available anywhere in the European Union.

Vodafone Group Chief Commercial Officer Morten Lundal said: "Whatever you want to do with your smartphone - from calls and texts to apps and the mobile Internet - will now be simple and worry-free in Europe with Vodafone. These are breakthrough new roaming services that offer our customers certainty combined with great value."

The new price plans build on Vodafone's leadership in providing best-in-class roaming offers in Europe. Other roaming offers include:

Vodafone Passport This was introduced in 2005 and has been used by more than 24 million customers to make calls abroad for the same price as a call at home plus a small additional fee.

EU-wide roaming mobile internet packages Launched in 2011 to offer customers a flat-rate daily fee of €2 for up to 25 MB of data per day and now used by around 2 million customers every month.

Vodafone roaming charges explained: All of your questions answered

  • Ben Johnston

vodafone easy travel flat england

We dig into the changes that Vodafone is making to its roaming policy in 2022

Vodafone is one of several mobile networks that have announced the reintroduction of roaming charges in 2022. Since 2017, roaming in European countries has been protected by the EU’s Roam Like at Home initiative, which banned mobile networks from charging users for roaming in member states. With Brexit removing the UK’s status as an EU member, this initiative is negated, leaving networks free to reinstate roaming charges.

Currently, only a select few networks have reintroduced roaming charges, and relatively low ones at that. Still, if you plan to use your phone abroad, it’s important to know exactly what you’re in for, so we’re going to break down the new charges, and in which circumstances they will be relevant to you.

READ NEXT: Vodafone network review

Vodafone roaming charges: When is it changing?

The new charges are being implemented as of 6 January 2022, so any roaming before this date will be under the old rules. Additionally, existing contracts taken out before 11 August 2021 will not be subject to these changes until the next upgrade. Full details of the updated roaming policy can be read here .

Vodafone roaming charges: What countries does it affect?

Vodafone groups roaming destinations into four categories: Zone A , Zone B , Zone C and Zone D . The first two zones contain the European countries that Vodafone covers, while the latter two encompass the rest of the world. The full list of countries covered can be found here .

Zone A consists only of the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man, both of which are included in standard pay monthly plans at no additional cost. The other 49 eligible European countries can be found in Zone B , which is covered by certain plans but incurs charges on others (more on that below).

Zone C covers 32 destinations worldwide, including popular choices like the USA, Canada and Australia. As with Zone B , roaming in Zone C is covered by a select few pay monthly plans but will otherwise need to be paid for.

Zone D covers an additional 75 worldwide destinations, including the Dominican Republic, Japan and Saudi Arabia. None of Vodafone’s pay monthly plans cover roaming in this zone, so you will need to pay a daily charge if you plan to roam in any of these countries.

Vodafone roaming charges: Pay monthly contracts

As mentioned above, there are a select few pay monthly plans that include roaming to several of the zones at no additional cost. Specifically, the Limited data Xtra Airtime Plan with 4 Xtra Benefits covers you roaming in 51 countries across Zones A and B, while the Unlimited data Xtra Airtime Plan with 4 Xtra Benefits covers 83 destinations in Zones A, B and C.

For all other plans, the standard rates apply to Zones B, C and D. Roaming in any of the 49 European countries covered by Zone B will cost you a flat rate of £2 per day. Alternatively, if you’re spending more than a few days in roaming countries, you may be better off purchasing either an 8- or 15-day Roaming Pass, both of which work out to just £1 per day of use.

Zones C and D are a bit more simple, if also more expensive. Roaming in destinations from either zone will incur a daily charge of £6. As things stand, there is no Roaming Pass option for worldwide destinations, so £6 per day is the best deal you can currently get from Vodafone.

Regardless of which zone you’re roaming in, fair usage applies to all of these rates. Minutes and texts work the same as they do at home, so if your plan includes unlimited of each, you won’t be restricted when roaming. Similarly with data, if your agreed limit is 25GB or less, you can use all your allowance without any further charges. If your data cap is usually more than that, however, you will be held to the roaming limit of 25GB. Any use that exceeds these limits will incur a surcharge of £3.13 per GB.

Browse SIM-only deals at Vodafone Browse pay monthly deals at Vodafone

Vodafone roaming charges: Pay As You Go plans

Vodafone has confirmed that current Pay As You Go plans face no changes under these new rules. As such, you can use your standard plan in any of the 51 European destinations just like you would at home, without garnering any additional costs.

If you’re going further afield, you can also opt for one of Vodafone’s Around the World Extra packages. The 8-day pass affords you 2GB of data, 100 minutes and 100 texts in any of 73 listed countries worldwide for £15, while the 15-day option gives you 4GB of data, 200 minutes and 200 texts in any of those same 73 destinations for £25.

Best sim card for UK travel (and other WiFi options for your trip)

Travel tips How to access WiFi in the UK

Travelling to the UK and wondering what the options are for connecting to the internet? Do you want to use your smartphone but avoid a huge bill when you get home? In this article, we have researched all the options so you don’t have to – read on to find out!

We have all become more and more dependent on our smartphones for just about every aspect of life. Whether it’s writing emails, using apps (we recommend downloading these 16 apps for UK travel) or getting driving directions, smartphones give us instant information at our fingertips.

So what happens when you travel to the UK?

Will your smartphone even work there?

The answer is yes, it can absolutely do all the things you need it to do, but you have to do a little research and make a plan prior to leaving.

Failure to do so could result in a nonworking smartphone on your trip, or even worse, a future bill with astronomical international roaming charges. Never fear, however, because the research has been done for you.

SIM options – quick guide

1. the first step is to understand each of the 5 available options, 2. the second step is understanding which is the best option for your needs., why you need a vpn, 2. a portable wi-fi device, 3. check with your telecommunications provider, option 1 – purchase at home before you travel, option 2 – purchase after you arrive in the uk, 5. use esim technology, choosing the right wi-fi option for you – the best sim card for uk travel.

🏆 What do I use? I use an Airalo eSIM these days and have used them in the UK (and, in fact, all over the world) – so my NUMBER 1 choice is an Airalo eSIM

A quick overview of the options available in the United Kingdom

Most hotels in the UK have free Wi-Fi. You could also plan on using hotspots, those public locations offering free Wi-Fi, like museums , coffee shops or fast food restaurants.

2. A portable Wi-Fi device such as Skyroam Solis

You can either rent or buy one of these. They are portable, about the size of a drink coaster and very easy to use.

3. Use your mobile provider’s international plan or arrange for day passes

Call your provider to see what their options are. Some have international calling built right in, while others offer international day passes. For the day passes, be sure to make a note of the price, the limits on data and the ability to make calls and texts.

4. Buy a SIM card either before you leave or when you get to the UK

For those folks not so technically minded, a SIM card is the small card inside of your phone that stores data unique to the user and to the phone. When travelling to the UK from abroad, assume you’ll need to swap out your existing SIM card for a UK compatible SIM card.

Many new phones come eSIM enabled which means you don’t need the usual SIM card with a chip embedded in it as a reprogrammable chip is actually present within the smartphone itself. This option is only available if you have a compatible phone so you will need to check first.

A row of red phone boxes in London

Ask yourself these questions

  • How much data will you need?
  • How often and for what reason will you be using your smartphone?
  • Will you be using apps that require a lot of data?
  • Will you need to watch videos or download information for work?
  • Will you need service for multiple devices?

Perhaps you’ll only need your smartphone to occasionally check email or make a quick social media post. Maybe you’re travelling with family and plan to use smartphones to keep in touch with one another via texts and calls.

Luckily, there are options that work for all of these scenarios.

5 options to access WiFi in the UK

Let’s look at all those options in a little more detail

1. Free Wi-Fi

If your hotel offers free Wi-Fi, you could plan to use that exclusively during your trip.

This would work well for someone who doesn’t use their phone very often and is willing to take care of any smartphone needs while in their room.

Outside of the hotel, there are many free hotspots for wifi in UK attractions or public places that could also be used.

Well, it’s free. Also, connecting to it is simple and convenient.

Disadvantages

Free Wi-Fi can be slow. This may not be an issue if you’ll be using your phone infrequently, but if you plan to visit websites, use apps or download information, slow speeds could be frustrating.

Are your game-playing kids travelling with you? They may not be very pleased with this option.

While slow speed is something to consider, lax security can be a serious problem. Using free Wi-Fi in public spaces is risky. Encryption standards may not be adequate, so anyone sitting near you could gain access to your personal information.

So could hackers who know public Wi-Fi can lead them directly into your phone. Talk about a fast way to ruin your trip! This is why we use (and recommend) a VPN service like SurfShark.

A VPN or Virtual Private Network allows you to create secure connections over the internet. This is essential if you are planning to use free WiFi on your travels as it stops anyone from gaining access to your private information.

If you do choose the free Wi-Fi route, the critical thing to remember is to turn off your international roaming. Depending on your provider, failure to do so could result in staggering charges on your next bill.

Thus, the best thing to do is while in the UK is to put your smartphone into flight mode. This will ensure that you won’t receive or transmit cellular data. Don’t worry — you’ll still have access to Wi-Fi in flight mode. It’s also a great way to save battery power on your phone.

Staying in touch with family and friends will still work with apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp — all usable without roaming.

There are also apps that allow you to download information while you have Wi-Fi for later use. These include Google Drive, TripAdvisor and AccuWeather.

The Solis, for example, is a pocket-sized device available for rent or purchase that allows for portable wifi UK. It has 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi speeds and is easy to use via the Solis app on your smartphone.

You know exactly how much it’s going to cost upfront. You’ll either purchase a device and pay for the data you use or you can rent it and pay per day. Devices like these are also secure, unlike public Wi-Fi.

If you would like to connect your iPad and laptop, this would be a great option for you as it allows connection to multiple devices. You can also share it with others who are in close proximity to the person holding the device.

This option does not include phone calls. Also, it may not be the most cost-effective choice if you are travelling by yourself, don’t need much data and only need Wi-Fi on one device.

While this device does allow for multiple users, they all need to be in the same place, so if the family heads in separate directions, someone is going to lose their Wi-Fi.

Finally, you must remember to charge its battery.

Note – the Solis is only available to purchase in the USA at present. An alternative to consider is the TravelWiFi portable device which we recently used during our UK trip in 2022 .

⭐️ USE THE CODE TRACYS TRAVELS AT CHECKOUT FOR AN EXCLUSIVE 10% DISCOUNT

Some plans include international roaming but if they don’t, they may offer an international day pass.

For residents of the United States, Verizon offers its TravelPass for $10.00, which allows up to 500MB per day and calls within the UK or back home.

T-Mobile’s international day pass works much the same way, but it’s only $5.00 and also has the ability to make your smartphone into a mobile hotspot.

Sprint is a little different. They offer Global Roaming, which allows 25 cents-a-minute calls, free texting and unlimited basic data up to 2G. You’ll need to go to their website, however, and make sure this service will work on your device.

Some Australian providers like Telstra and Optus offer a travel pack that allows for a fixed amount of talk, text, and data for a specific amount of days. This is generally cheaper than using pay-as-you-go roaming.

It’s very easy to call your provider or to use their apps to arrange these services. It’s also a good, secure and reliable method for someone who doesn’t plan on using large amounts of data.

With certain providers, there is a data limit per 24-hour period. If you go over, it can be very expensive. The limited data makes this a poor option for someone planning to use their smartphone for everything while travelling.

4. Purchase a UK Prepaid SIM Card

You can buy a prepaid SIM card online and have it shipped to you before your trip even begins.

Here are the three best options for a UK SIM card for visitors that are available for pre-purchase.

  • Orange Holiday Zen

This card comes with 8GB of data. You’ll get 30 minutes of calling and 200 minutes of SMS use.

Once you begin using your SIM card, it is good for 14 days. The Orange Holiday Zen might be the ideal choice for someone who won’t use their phone very often during their trip.

For more data, upgrade to the Orange Holiday Europe . You get 20GB of data, 120 minutes of calls worldwide and 1,000 SMS messages. This also lasts for a fortnight after activation.

  • 3 Data Pack 8GB

This card also offers 8GB. Unlike the Orange Holiday SIM range, it offers unlimited calls and SMS use within Europe. It works for 30 days after you begin using it.

This card can be used in 71 Go Roam countries worldwide, including some outside of Europe such as Australia and the US. It gives you a UK phone number, and works with any unlocked device. Receiving messages and calls is free with this SIM card.

For more data or a longer duration, you can also buy the 3 PAYG 12GB card that’s valid for a year, or the 24GB option that lasts for two years after activation. Both also work in 71 Go Roam countries.

This is our third choice as it’s more basic, but the price tag does match that. It covers all European countries and gives you 10GB of data.

Once activated, it’s good for 30 days of use, so longer than the Orange SIM cards.

The primary advantage is that you can begin using your smartphone as soon as your plane lands in the UK.

Swapping your SIM card ahead of time will give you peace of mind in knowing that all of your data, text and call needs have been taken care of. You will also be guaranteed fast, consistent data speeds throughout your trip.

Once the new SIM card is inside your smartphone, you won’t be able to use it until you get to the UK. If you have multiple phones, this may work for you. If not, it could be a problem.

You also won’t know if the new SIM card has been properly installed and is working until you get to the UK.

A person holding a selection of the best UK sim card for visitors

Some people may choose to wait until arriving in the country to buy a UK prepaid SIM card. If you don’t mind paying a little more, you can pick one up at the airport as soon as you get off the plane.

You can also find them more reasonably priced at a provider’s store. There are four main providers of UK SIM cards for tourists. Their stores can be found throughout the country.

As long as your phone can be unlocked, they will install it for you without requiring you to show identification or your passport, which had been a past requirement.

SIM cards are also available at convenience stores, grocery stores and tobacconists.

A phone with a sim card next to it one option when choosing the best UK sim card for visitors

Here are the four main providers who offer a UK prepaid SIM card for tourists.

EE is one of the largest internet service providers and mobile network operators in the UK. They offer several pay-as-you-go packages at different price points depending on the amount of data and call minutes you need.

They are the UK branch of Telefonica which is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. They offer 5 types of SIM cards for UK tourists, varying in available data and minutes.

Their name reflects that they were the first telecommunication company to offer a 3G connection to their customers.

They have six different UK tourist SIM cards, all offering unlimited minutes and texts. The only difference is in the amount of data and, of course, the price.

They also offer a variety of prepaid SIM cards, so again, which one you get would depend on how you plan to use your smartphone. They have a variety of SIM-only deals and pay-as-you-go SIM plans that are ideal for travellers.

There are many options for data or calling with these cards, so you could tailor your purchase to your exact needs. Getting your SIM changed when you arrive will allow for a consistent and fast data speed throughout your stay in the UK.

You may need to unlock your phone. In order to do that you would have to visit one of the providers’ stores. This could potentially cost you time and is probably not how you want to spend your precious vacation minutes.

Also, some smartphones will not unlock if you have had them for less than 12 months, so you would need to contact your provider before you travel to make sure this wouldn’t be an issue.

A picture of a phone and a sim card

If you’re not familiar with this yet, then you’re far from alone! An eSIM may already actually be there within your phone, though you’d be forgiven for not knowing it.

eSim is an entirely online system, so you don’t need the usual SIM card with a chip embedded in it. Set-up is fast, it’s simple to use and it’s all done online.

Many of the latest smartphones are already eSIM enabled. This especially applies to the top selling brands like Apple, Google and Samsung. For example, compatible devices include the Apple iPhone 11, the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S20, plus all subsequent models in each range.

With an eSIM, a reprogrammable chip is actually present within the smartphone itself. Before using an eSIM, all you normally need to do is scan a QR code to begin the download. It’s a quick and convenient way to get a SIM without a physical card.

You can find the right eSIM for your UK trip at airalo.com . Prices start at just $5, and the eSim lasts for anything from a week upwards.

An eSIM costs from just USD $5, so it’s a very affordable way to stay connected and in touch with your loved ones.

As it’s solely online, eSIMs are far more eco-friendly than traditional SIM cards. You don’t need to wait for a new SIM to be delivered either.

You can switch to any mobile network more or less instantly too. Sometimes, you can also use a SIM card in your phone at the same time. This means you can use each for different purposes – such as work and leisure.

eSIMS are still relatively new, and not offered by all phone networks. You usually need a contract, rather than a Pay As You Go plan, to use this technology via your usual phone network.

Not all smartphones are compatible with eSIM technology. If you have a phone that’s more than a couple of years old, or is made by certain brands, then you may not be able to use an eSIM.

So that’s basically all there is to mastering the art of picking which smartphone Wi-Fi option is right for you while travelling in the UK . Whew!

It’s really not such a complicated puzzle when all the information is laid out. You know how you will use your smartphone and how much data you will need, so just pick the option that works best for you. Then enjoy a surprise-free trip to the UK!

Vodafone international roaming FAQ

Nick Baker, Broadband and TV expert

Vodafone's roaming policy depends on which plan you sign up for, as each plan includes varying levels of roaming, if any.

If your Vodafone Pay monthly plan started before 11 August 2021, then you'll likely still have EU roaming included in your monthly price without having to add any extras. However, if you joined Vodafone, upgraded, or changed your plan on or after 11 August 2021, there will likely be a daily charge for using your phone in Vodafone's European roaming zones.

However, if you have an Xtra 3 plan or one of the selected Unlimited Max Xtra 3 plans, you'll have either EU roaming or worldwide roaming included.

II. Vodafone Coverage and Speeds in the UK

When choosing a network operator in the UK, coverage and internet speeds are important factors to consider. Let’s see how Vodafone fares in these aspects.

1. Vodafone Coverage in the UK

Vodafone UK- Coverage maps

Vodafone boasts excellent coverage across the UK, currently providing service to over 97.5% of the population. This extensive reach is achieved through Vodafone’s dense network of mobile sites utilizing 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies. Vodafone was also recently ranked the fastest 4G network nationally by RootMetrics. This high-speed 4G allows customers to browse the internet, stream content and use data-heavy apps virtually anywhere in the country.

However, their coverage is decent across most cities and metropolitan areas where most travelers spend their time. You can expect good Vodafone signals while visiting popular destinations like London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham, etc.

2. Vodafone Speeds in the UK

Vodafone Speed in the UK

Vodafone offers some of the fastest internet speeds in the UK, according to recent speed tests. On average, download speeds on Vodafone’s fixed broadband network are around 27.9 Mbps . While this isn’t the absolute fastest available in certain regions that are served by full fiber networks, it is still very fast compared to the national average broadband speed in the UK.

So, Vodafone customers can stream and download content smoothly in HD. Multiple devices can be connected and used simultaneously for activities like video calls, online gaming, and working from home without experience slowdowns. The speed is sufficient for families to browse, stream, game and work online without facing congestion or lag issues.

III. Connectivity Options for Travelers to the UK

As a tourist visiting the UK, there are a few good connectivity options for travelers visiting the UK to stay connected during their trip. For most travelers, getting a local Vodafone SIM often works out to be the most convenient and cost-effective option. Let’s compare the pros and cons of each:

As you can see, SIM card is often the best connectivity option for tourists visiting the UK. It provides fast and reliable mobile internet access directly through the local cellular networks, allowing tourists to stay constantly connected while exploring different locations.

IV. Best Vodafone SIM Cards for Tourists

Vodafone offers both contract plans and pay-as-you-go plans in the UK. For tourists, PAYG SIM cards are the best option as they don’t require any long-term contract or commitment. Here are some of the main Vodafone prepaid SIM options for visitors to the UK:

Vodafone offers a range of competitively priced SIM card plans to keep travelers connected while visiting the UK. The plans start at just $12 per month for 15GB of data, unlimited calls and texts. This provides more than enough data to stay constantly connected through navigation, social media, streaming music and light browsing.

Tips : For those who need even more data, there is a $17 plan with 35GB as well as $23 and $34 plans offering 60GB and 200GB respectively.

How to impress a local in the UK

Tips in the united kingdom.

Tipping isn’t very common in UK. A 10% service charge is generally included in the bill and additional tips aren’t mandatory unless it’s a high end restaurant or hotel. Tipping the tour guides is mostly optional and depends on the customer’s satisfaction, and taxi drivers will only expect a round up if given the case.

Splitting up household jobs, whether that be cleaning, washing or life admin, is an issue that affects a lot of couples.

Starling Bank found women do a total of 36 hours of household tasks and admin per week - equivalent to a full-time job.

This is nine hours more than men - and yet men believe they do the majority in their household. The average man estimates they do 52% of work overall.

It's the discrepancy between perception and reality (and, of course, this can work both ways) that leads to arguments.

Couples who don't divide the housework equally have roughly five arguments about housework each month - rising to eight for couples who rely on just one person for the work.

We spoke to relationship expert Hayley Quinn about the best ways to split household work - and how to deal with arguments should they arise with your partner.

She explained that it's necessary to be "transparent" when deciding how to split the workload - but also to be flexible in order to find a solution that suits all involved.

While a 50/50 split might be your idea of perfection, Hayley said it was "almost inevitable that one partner may take on slightly more of the load" at different periods of time.

"Striving for perfect 50/50 fairness at all times is a really nice ideal, but it just may not be that practical for modern life," she said.

She said some jobs may be more visible than others, like cleaning, sorting out the washing, and taking the bins out.

Other jobs can take up just as much time and resource, but will fly under the radar. She gave the examples or sorting out travel insurance or changing over internet provider.

How should you approach a conversation with your partner about splitting the work?

To start off, Hayley said you should enter the conversation with a positive mindset - think how you are both contributing to the relationship in different ways.

"When you're having these conversations, it's not that many people are sitting around feeling like they're not contributing," Hayley said.

"In fact, I think if there's a discrepancy in how people contribute, it's just due to a lack of awareness as to what the other partner does, and some chores are just more obviously visible than others."

Try to avoid starting the chat with the perspective that you are working a lot harder than your partner and they're not pulling their weight.

"That way, you start from a place of we're all on the same team," she said.

"When you're doing that as well, it's really important not to make statements which assume what the other partner is thinking, feeling, or contributing.

"So, for instance, saying something like 'I'm always the one that's picking the kids up from school and you never do anything',  becomes easily very accusational, and this is when arguments start.

"Instead, most partners will be much more receptive if you simply ask for more help and assistance."

When asking for help, Hayley said it's important to ask in a way that's verbal and clear - don't assume your partner is going to intuitively know what share of household chores to take on if you just complain.

"In a nice way, explicitly ask for what you want. It could be something like saying, 'Look, I know that we're both working a long week, but I feel like there's so much to do. It would be really helpful if... I'd really appreciate it if you take over lunch,'" she explained.

"Again, start from a place of appreciation. Acknowledge what your partner contributes already, and be explicitly clear as to what you would like them to do. Phrase it as a request for their help."

She also said some people can feel protective of how jobs are completed, and learning to relinquish that control can be helpful.

"If you want it to feel more equitable, you have to let your partner do things in their own way," she said.

What happens if that doesn't work?

If you find the conversations aren't helping, you can always try organising a rota, Hayley said.

She recommended using Starling Bank's Share the Load tool to work out your chore split.

However, she said if you feel there are constant conversations and nothing is changing then the issue is becoming more about communication than sharing the workload.

"It's actually about someone not hearing what you're trying to communicate to them, so it's more of a relationship-wide issue," she said.

She advised sitting down and trying to have another transparent verbal conversation, making it clear that you have spoken about this before and how it's making you feel in a factual way, without placing blame.

Using phrases like "I've noticed" or "I've observed" can help, she said.

If after all that, the situation still isn't getting better, she said it's time to consider confiding in friends or family for support, or seeing a relationship counsellor.

The oldest and most prestigious tennis event in the world returns on Monday, with the best of the best players to battle over two weeks to be named champion.

Crowds in their thousands will flock to Wimbledon to enjoy a spot of sport - as well as the range of food and drink on offer.

It's not the cheapest day out, with a cool cup of Pimms setting you back just under £10 and a bottle of water coming in at nearly £3.

But did you know that despite souring inflation in recent years sending food prices through the roof, one fan favourite - the quintessentially British strawberries and cream combo - has stayed at the same price since 2010?

A pot of the sweet snack costs just £2.50, making it one of the more affordable offerings at the All England Club. It has been served up there since the very first Wimbledon tournament in 1877.

Perdita Sedov, Wimbledon's head of food and beverage, previously told The Telegraph the price freeze "goes back to a long-standing tradition" of strawberries and cream being associated with the championship.

"It's about being accessible to all," she said.

According to the Wimbledon website, each year more than 38.4 tonnes of strawberries are picked and consumed during the tournament.

Ofgem is being urged not to lift a ban on acquisition-only energy tariffs (deals that are available only to new customers, not existing ones).

A coalition of consumer organisations and energy companies led by Which? has penned a letter to the government regulator for electricity and gas warning it of the risk of a "return to a market which discriminates against loyal customers".

They have also raised the potential impact on customers in debt, who may not be able to switch but could also find themselves struggling to access a better deal with their current supplier under the plans.

The letter also notes the "very recent history" when more than 30 suppliers went bust - many after trying to win customers with unsustainably cheap tariffs.

Ofgem has said it could remove the ban on acquisition-only tariffs from 1 October but consumer choice website Which?  has research that shows the public are opposed to cheap deals that exclude existing customers, with 81% feeling it would be unfair if their supplier was offering cheaper deals to new customers only.

The consumer champion has signed the letter to Ofgem alongside E.ON, Octopus, So Energy, Rebel Energy, End Fuel Poverty Coalition, Citizens Advice and Fair by Design.

Two topics dominated our inbox this week.

Many readers got in touch about our Weekend Money feature on older Britons who face having to work past pension age to pay off long-term mortgages.

Lots of you share the fears of those we spoke to in the feature...

I am in my 70s with still about five years to go on my mortgage. It stands at 30k on a 300k house. The mortgage repayments are £800 a month, this doesn't sound much but on a static pension it is massive and I am literally on the point of not having sufficient money to pay it. Red
I was supposed to retire in 2.5 years at 66 and 4 months, my mortgage finishes when I'm 70. I was paying off extra (double) on my previous rate to reduce an interest only mortgage, but the recent increases in mortgage rates have meant I'm paying off hardly any. AVB
I'm 67 and still trying to pay off a mortgage that has another five years to run. I can't stop working and do over 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Keith
My problem is going to be paying off an interest-only mortgage. More than anything I wish I hadn't changed when I had my twins but we couldn't make ends meet at the time. Sazavan
Six years ago I reached the age of 70 and my interest-only mortgage ended - to extend it was impossible with the conditions attached. This then threw me into the rental market, paying more than my mortgage. Now I am facing eviction from the rental due to it being sold. Marianj

We also heard from a mortgage adviser, whose recommendations matched those of Gerard Boon, the managing director of online mortgage broker Boon Brokers, who we spoke to for the feature...

I am a mortgage adviser in Leicestershire and have found an increasing number of people asking to go as long as possible past normal retirement age. I always point out that it's great to have lower payments in the short term but you will need to work to 75. There's no choice. Semaine

Onto the second topic that dominated your correspondence, and we were sorry to learn that lots of you face similar issues as reader Adam, who has had to take his faulty car back to the garage six times - and is still not convinced it is fixed.

Scott Dixon, from The Complaints Resolver , was on hand to help break down what Adam could do for our Money Problem feature - read his advice here:

Same thing happened to me, except that they didn't let me refund the vehicle and claimed it was my fault even though I told them about the issue during the six months' warranty multiple times... they barely replied. K
I have bought a used car and there is an engine management light on. The garage where I bought it from has since changed name and moved premises (found out by accident). When I call to book in I am told to expect a call back or the mechanic will ring me but they never do. Andy D
I have taken my car to Halfords four times in the last 14 months. Each time they guarantee me it's fixed and within a week it's back to normal. Can I get it repaired elsewhere and bill Halfords? Simon
I have a JAG SVR that's been faulty since day one, the garage sent me home with it faulty and not working correctly. I have tried to reject it but the finance company are playing David versus Goliath... we can prove issues from day one, we have two vehicle reports to back it up. Jezza
Have a Nissan Juke, which has a seat issue where it sinks on its own… Nissan saying it's not a manufacturing fault, but "user error". Where do I stand in getting it fixed? Technical team keeps fobbing it off as our fault. Esmith97

Starting from next month, gamers will be able to play Xbox titles like Fallout 4, Starfield and Fortnite using Amazon Fire TV.

A new upgrade coming to the Fire TV 4K devices transforms your television into a console, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

You'll need to be a member of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to take advantage, plus you'll need a compatible controller and a solid internet connection.

"One of the biggest benefits of cloud gaming is the ability to play premium games without needing a console," Amazon explained.

"The Fire TV Stick may be compact, but it can stream and run graphically intense Xbox games like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.

"This portability also means you can easily move your cloud gaming setup from the living room TV to a different room or even take it on the road.

"As long as you have a solid internet connection and your compatible Fire TV Stick, and a compatible controller, you can take your Xbox Game Pass games and saved progress travels with you."

Once downloaded, the Xbox app is designed to offer a smooth and seamless experience. Here’s how it works:

  • Install and launch the Xbox app from your Fire TV device;
  • Sign in with your Microsoft account to play. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll have instant access to hundreds of cloud-enabled games;
  • Connect a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller. Controllers like the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4 controller are all compatible.

A new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K will set you back £59.99 on Amazon, while a new Xbox Wireless Controller costs £49.59.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate currently costs £1 for the first 14 days for new members, then is billed at £12.99 per month.

House prices are overvalued by thousands of pounds, according to a major property company.

The typical property is £20,000 more than is affordable to the average household, says Zoopla.

But rising incomes and longer mortgage terms mean the "over-valuation" is expected to disappear by the end of the year.

Zoopla's report said: "House prices still look expensive on various measures of affordability.

"We expect house price inflation to remain muted, likely to rise more slowly than household incomes over the next one to two years."

The average house price is around £264,900 – but according to Zoopla's calculations, the affordable price is £245,200.

"A new government will add a dimension of political stability when the autumn market starts in September and even if the [Bank of England base] rate is not lower by then, a cut will be imminent," said Tom Bill, head of UK residential research at estate agent Knight Frank.

"Given that mortgage rates will steadily reduce as services inflation comes under control, we expect UK house prices to rise by 3% this year."

Zoopla's over-valuation estimate was reached by comparing the actual average house price in its index with an "affordable" price, which was calculated based on households' disposable incomes, average mortgage rates and average deposit sizes for home buyers.

It's one of the most iconic and popular music festivals in the world, and it's notoriously hard to get a ticket.

Glastonbury has rolled around once again and roughly 210,000 people have flocked to Somerset this year as Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA headline the UK's biggest festival this weekend.

Those in the crowd are in the lucky minority — an estimated 2.5 million people tried to get tickets for this year's event, meaning the odds really aren't in your favour if you fancy going.

Tickets routinely sell out within an hour of going on sale, and that demand is unlikely to decrease next year, given the festival will likely take a fallow year in 2026.

So, if you're feeling jealous this year, how do you get tickets for Glastonbury 2025, and how can you give yourself the best possible chance?

We've run through all the available details as well as some tips so you're best prepared when the time comes.

Registration details:  Before potential festivalgoers get the chance to buy tickets, they must register on the official website.

One of the reasons this is done is to stop ticket touting, with all tickets non-transferable. Each ticket features the photograph of the registered ticket holder, with security checks carried out to ensure that only the person in the photograph is admitted to the festival.

Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. You will be asked to provide basic contact details and to upload a passport-standard photo.

Registration closes a few weeks before tickets are released.

Where to buy tickets:  Tickets can be bought exclusively at  glastonbury.seetickets.com   once they become available.

No other site or agency will be allocated tickets, so if you see anyone else claiming to have Glastonbury tickets available for purchase, it's most likely a scam.

When tickets go on sale: We don't know the details for next year yet - but Glastonbury ticket sales usually take place in October or November of the year before the festival.

This year's ticket sales began, following a delay, in November 2023. Coach tickets typically go on sale a few days before (traditionally on a Thursday), with general admission tickets following on the Sunday morning a few days later.

For those that miss out, there's also a resale that takes place in April for tickets that have been returned or for those with a balance that has not been paid.

This year's April resale took place on 18 April (for ticket and coach travel options) and 21 April (general admission tickets and accommodation options).

How much it costs:  General admission tickets for this year's festival cost £355 each, plus a £5 booking fee. That's an increase on last year's price of £335 each, which was also an increase on the 2022 price of around £280.

So, we can probably assume that ticket prices will go up once again for next year's festival.

Remember, there are options to pay for your ticket in instalments, so you won't have to pay the full price in one go if you don't want to. All tickets are subject to a £75 deposit, with the remaining balance payable by the first week of April.

It's also worth noting that Glastonbury is a family festival, and that's reflected in the fact that children aged 12 and under when the festival takes place are admitted free of charge.

TIPS FOR THE BIG TICKET SALE DAY

The scramble for tickets when they go on general sale is nothing short of painstaking, with demand far outweighing supply.

Here are some tips to give you the best possible chance of bagging tickets:

Familiarise yourself with the website: You may see a reduced, bare-looking version of the booking page once you gain entry. The organisers say this is intentional to cope with high traffic and does not mean the site has crashed, so be sure not to refresh or leave the page.

Once you reach the first page of the booking site, you will need to enter the registration number and registered postcode for yourself and the other people you are attempting to book tickets for.

When you proceed, the details you have provided will be displayed on the next page.

Once you have double checked all of your information is correct, click 'confirm' to enter the payment page, where you will need to check/amend your billing address, confirm your payment information, accept the terms and conditions, and complete the checkout within the allocated time.

Timekeeping: You can get timed out if you don't act fast, so it's a good idea to have your details saved on a separate document so you can copy and paste them over quickly.

You might also have to approve your payment, which could mean answering security questions from your card issuer. Have a device on hand to ensure you're ready for this.

Internet connection: This should go without saying, but you won't stand a chance without a solid internet connection.

Avoid trying to rely on your mobile phone signal, and politely ask those you might share the internet with to delay any online activity that might slow your connection.

Don't give up: Until the page tells you that tickets have sold out, you still have a chance.

Shortly before that point, there will be a message saying 'all available tickets have now been allocated,' which users often think means their chances are up.

What it actually means is that orders are being processed for all the tickets that are available. But if somebody whose order is being processed doesn't take our previous advice and runs out of time, their loss could be your gain.

Multiple tabs and devices: Glastonbury advises against its customers trying to run multiple tabs and devices to boost their chances of getting a ticket.

Glastonbury's website says running multiple devices simultaneously is "a waste of valuable resources, and doesn't reflect the ethos of the festival".

"Please stick to one device and one tab," it adds, "so that you can focus on entering your details without confusing your browser and help us make the ticket sale as quick and stress free as possible for all."

Shoppers have been buying bigger TVs to enjoy this summer's European Championships, according to the electrical retailer Currys.

The chain said UK sales were up by more than 30% in the past month, with "supersize" screens — 85-inch and above — selling well in the run-up to the Euros.

"Having a third of the TV market and the Euros being a big event for many people, we're seeing that super-sizing trend keep on giving," said Currys chief executive Alex Baldock.

The most popular, and also cheapest, 85-inch TV on the Currys website costs £999.

The most expensive super-size TV is a 98-inch offering from Samsung that will set you back £9,499.

Currys reported adjusted pre-tax profits of £118m for the year to 27 April. That represented a 10% increase from the previous year's profits of £107m.

Like-for-like sales for Currys UK and Ireland declined by 2% to £4.97bn in the 12 months to 27 April, with consumer confidence knocked by high inflation levels and rising interest rates.

"We can see our progress in ever-more engaged colleagues, more satisfied customers and better financial performance," Mr Baldock added.

Selling your home can be expensive, with the range of fees that come as part of the selling process meaning costs can really rack up.

Those costs are usually present whether you visit a bricks and mortar estate agents on the high street or if you go online, although Purplebricks has marketed itself as an exception to the rule.

Since December, it has launched a new pricing structure that enables sellers to list their homes without paying a penny, making it the only completely free online estate agent in the UK.

Purplebricks previously charged a fixed fee of £1,349 (including VAT) to sell your house, with that figure rising to £2,999 for those based in and around London.

That needed to be paid upfront or not later than 10 months after the property was first advertised, even if it went unsold.

Now, after being bought out by rival online estate agency Strike last year, Purplebricks is offering a free service, no strings attached.

Is there a catch, though?

There's no such thing as a free lunch or, it seems, a totally free way to sell your house.

If you'd like to pay more to unlock extras and upgrades, you can do so, with a 'Boost' and 'Full House' package costing £899 and £1,499 respectively.

All estate agents are also required by law to carry out anti-money laundering checks on everyone selling a property.

Typically, that cost is incorporated by estate agents into their service fees. However, as Purplebricks' service is free, it has implemented a separate £60 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) fee for sellers.

What's more, there's also no Rightmove listing included as part of its free service.

As the UK's biggest property portal market, attracting more buyers and sellers than anyone else, Rightmove can help sell your home much faster.

Purplebricks does include a free Zoopla listing, but adding Rightmove is an optional add-on that will set you back £299.

So, how does Purplebricks make money?

Add-ons and extras.

Purplebricks will be hoping to make money by customers opting for optional extras or premium services.

As well as the Rightmove example mentioned above, professional photographs and a floorplan will cost £699, while hosted viewings of your property will come at a charge of £899.

Purplebricks can also work with sellers and buyers to help them find the right mortgage deal and by offering them conveyancing services.

It's important to remember that there is no obligation to buy any of the add-on services, though some will undoubtedly come in handy.

Purplebricks is clear about its up-selling tactics too. This is what its website says:

We’re fully transparent about what little extras we offer and where your money is going – so it really is your choice. When our agent speaks to you, they’ll talk you through the options, and then you can decide if it’s right for you.
